Okay, we don't want people to have to reinvent the SuperFood wheel! Let's post some learning curves that we have or are experiencing so that others can learn from our mistakes!

Examples:

How NOT to cook _____________!

__________ & __________ do not make a very good food combo!

(You get the jist.......)

Well, I have learned to not over buy food for the week! Just because a sale on wild salmon makes me want to do backflips, doesn't mean I should buy 2 whole salmons! I cooked one of them, but forgot to freeze my second one, as it was kind of hidden behind all of my other SuperFoods that I over stocked up on. It went bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Remembering one of Jayde's posts about considering the plight of the wild caught salmon, I felt like crap! I will never, ever, ever do that again. What a waste and how irresponsible of me to do that!

So now, I only buy enough food to last me 3, no more than 4 days. Fresh is best! I think I just got a little excited during the preparations for beginning my new way of eating.

I lived, I overbought, I learned...

Oh, the same is true of the 4 bottles of Kefir that I bought! They didn't go bad, but I have to wonder, what was I thinkin? (I might have to call Dr. Phil...)

I tend to overbuy occasionally, too, most on fresh vegetables.

Yes, avocados are a superfood.

No, avocados don't keep well after being cut!

Since I want to lose weight along with regaining health, I want to eat SMALL amounts of this superfood. But even coating it with lemon, the left-over avocado (even still in the shell with seed left in place) still will barely keep for one day.

Today, my husband (who cooks for a living) told me how they keep them at work!

Assuming I want four servings out of one avocado (at different meals):

1. Cut in half. Remove seed. Scoop out flesh. Cut into fourths.

2. Coat the ones to be stored in lemon juice immediately. Put into separate little baggies.

3. Plop into freezer!

He said they freeze well, and when needed, don't take long to thaw.

This was very helpful to me. He usually eats at work, so I am usually cooking for one, and until now couldn't figure out a way to get a small portion of avocado. Problem solved!

I don't SPECIFICALLY do the superfoods diet, but I learned that as good as my intentions were, I over eat nuts. Either buy the single serving packages OR count them and put them in individual baggies (this can be done with lots of foods). I also left mine open and they got stale. GRRR. I leave some in the original pack and this is for recipes.

Jar of petite cut tomatoes is actually a good deal. I use cans in recipes but when I want something to top my foods, a spoon ful or two from this sealable jar does the trick and nothing goes wasted.

I am redoing my spice cabinet. Throw out all the old stuff. I also look at the foods in fat flush plan. (the foods only). I plan to label my spices with a dot for super foods and fat flush so I will visibly choose these spices first.

If you've never tried a food, DO NOT OVERBUY and don't get too many new things at once (you likely won't be brave enough to try them all). I like the canned asparagus so much that I'm actually nervous about attempting to try steamed asparagus in a microwave bag. I don't like it crunchy and I'm not sure about this. So I won't buy it till I'm searching for something new to try.

Gosh, Hope... I'm sorry I didn't mean to give you a guilt trip! :p Well, I'm sorry to you.. but happy for the salmon. Funny how I don't feel the same about a rotten apple.. though maybe I should.. shouldn't I? :D

4 bottles of Kefir? OH MY!! ;) ;)

My lesson... Really.. I mean REALLY read labels. I read labels.. but just wasn't picky enough about things like yogurt and peanut butter... I've gotten better.. even if it is something that should be sacred and pure... it could have hidden evils  and yes... it might only be a little.. but when you count it as a superfood rather than an occassional thing all that 'bad' really adds up.
