Sharmel Update (08/05)
Shar continues to struggle with discomfort and pain. Dr is doing everything he can to keep her comfortable, he is showing alot of concern over her condition and how to rectify it. His "fluid" plan is to pull the "air catheter" out tomorrow, he doesn't think it's doing much now, the remaining air will just need to be absorbed by her body over the next week. He plans on doing a CT W/O contrast on monday to look for any major air pockets that can not be reasonably absorbed and/or any fluid accumulations. If the CT goes well on monday than maybe wed he will do a CT with contrast to see exactly what we are dealing with. He has made mention that with the substantial weight she has already lost and the basic no progress with her fistula, that it may be time to consider re-accomplishing the RN-Y. He would in essence remove the stricture, eliminate the diverticuli/ fistula and made fresh connections at the top of the pouch. The lower union is healing and poses no problems, so all his work would at the esophagus- pouch union. It sounds reasonable and potentially our best option instead of continuing to try to fix what is there. So that is the latest.
Thanks for the positive thoughts, i print out the threads each day and take them to her, so she is getting all your good vibes.
Thanks!
