Hey hey it's Saturday and I am up and at 'em already.
Don't know if you ladies have seen the 3FC challenge that Suzanne started last week. She wants us to let her know at the end of the month, how much weight we have lost for the month of August. You don't need to publish your weight or anything. On my other thread, we have joined Suzanne's challenge and added measurements. Sometimes when we exercise, the weight doesn't change so much but the inches melt away. That's as good a victory as losing weight. I managed to update my siggy last night - not that it looks good but hey it is a start. That might inspire me.
Got a million gazillion things to do today so since I was awake early, I figured I would get started asap - but not before coffee. So while I drink the coffee, I'll chat here.
This project I am working on presently, is getting at me because it is so BIG and so many people and to find anything. any scrap of information, any piece of vital information you have to go knocking from door to door and get passed on from person to person. Eventually you either figure out what you want to know yourself or you find the fountain of knowledge and all is well. It really is quite daunting but is getting better the more people I get to talk to. I think that when the pretend and awfully HR type stuff ends (how to train the participant nicely)and the real world begins the week after next (with my 4 x 2 and nails) I shall quite enjoy myself. I leave here for Weipa next Sunday (not tomorrow) and will be away about 9 weeks. How I will be able to communicate here is still up in the air. At present, it doesn't look like I will have internet access, however I am doing my best to persuade them that I still have to talk to the outside world for banking purposes, for family reasons etc. and internet access will be the cheapest way to do it. I hope I don't have to resort to threats to get it.
Okay, it is supposed to be windy today, so I'd better go hang out some washing. Maybe burn a few more old papers before the wind gets up and then get off to gym. After that I'd better sort out a list of 'to do's', 'to take with me', 'to pay', and finally 'to **** with it' Footy is on tonight. Not my All Blacks but it is still footy. I'll be there with a glass of Spanish red and something from the fridge to start the cleanout of food. Pusscat is starting to get a whiff of something happening. She's getting a little wary.
Sorry I haven't been around much. Work is getting in the way. Well done Cat on starting the new thread. I had intended to look at it this weekend.
Get on with it Shad
08-04-2006, 10:30 PM
Well I haven't moved and probably will not. Gene is doing well with rehab, however, it is quite slow.
I am exercising three times a week at Slender Lady and Shad, you are correct I have only lost 3 lbs. in almost 4 weeks but I have also taken off 3 inches. Why do we always want everything to happen right now! Life just doesn't work that way.
I am sure most of you saw in your newspapers or heard on the news about the serial killers we have had for the last year. Well fortunately enough with the help of the FBI, a lot of the police departments they apprehended two of those killers last evening. They were just killing people at random and even animals. We still have one on the loose and he is called the Baseline killer. Years ago I do believe people were more sane and yet they didn't have the material things people have today.
Has anyone been watching "So you Think you Can Dance" I find this very interesting--to see these young people really put their hearts and souls into performing their very best. Next week will be the final week and I hope my guy wins--Benji. Can you believe I am one of those voting fools and this week I will have to really do it big time!
It's so great to be in touch but with Gene going to rehab three times a week and my exercising, the time just flies.
08-05-2006, 09:26 AM
Cat - Thank you for posting the new site.
Nita - I saw about the serial killers on the news and of couse when they mentioned Phonex, the first persons I thougth of were you and Gene. I'm so glad they caught 2 of them, will pray they catch the last one. It's good to hear that Gene is doing good.
Shad - Hope they give you internet access. I"m with you it's much cheaper then paying for long distance calls and lots more convienent. I will go and look at Suzanne's challenge. I need something to get me going.
As for me not much going on as far as exercise and eating right. It's been so hot here, today is a expected 103 and still no rain. Lots of sales going on because of back to school and it's tax free weekend. NO sales tax on certain items. So i'm going to try and take advantage of a few items. Going to run some errans this morning before it gets to hot.
08-05-2006, 10:04 AM
Nita--yes, I hadheard of the killings, and was so glad they were caught. I do think there is a tendency to romanticize the past, though. For example, between 1882 and 1951, 4,730 people were lynched in the United States: 3,437 Negro and 1,293 white. Lawrence, which was considered a friendly place for African Americans, once had four hung off the Kaw River bridge. Then there were gangland slayings (remember the St. Valentine's Day massacre?) So the violence was in a different form but it was there.

Good Sunday Morning Girls!
Time has a way of passing. At times, it may pass ever so very slowly. Other times, I find myself wondering how on planet earth did I get here from there? One of my closer high school friends lost her Mother this week. I found myself remembering overnight weekend stays at their warm and inviting home. On Saturday evenings we would go cheer her Father on, as he raced his orange Mock One Mustang #11, how much fun. Also flashing into my memory bank is an extra large plate sized chocolate chip cookie made for me by her younger brother. As we reach the half way point of summer, I am fondly reminded of these memories some 35 years ago, and realize summer is not the only half way point today. Time has a way of passing.
Cat: Rock on girl, and thanks so very much for the new home!!!:thanks: I believe the difference today is technology enables us to more readily experience violence at higher levels. I worry about how the constant exposure to violence, even as entertainment, will effect future generations. With war rampant in more parts of the world than not today, it is a scary, scary time. I force myself to remain up to date on international news, but it takes a brave soul to understand the level of cruelity and violence taking place. Again, your writing and poems are truly awesome. Keep them coming.
OneDay: It is hot here also. We just had a few days with lower humidity, but generally have had 103 heat index numbers the last few weeks. Hey, what items have no tax? Curious? There have been rumors of eliminating the gas tax in Indiana, and if they did it here that would be helpful. I am doing some shopping getting ready for school to start.
Nita: Great news to learn Gene is once again on the road to feeling better and stronger. I am sure you are a big part of his success. Are you doing any sewing? I bought a new winter coat at a close out sale. It was exactly what I have been looking for, and I paid $36.00 for a $119.00 coat. Oh what a feeling. I will take the shoulder pads that are in it out and put different ones in. It's a grey walking coat, with a hood - very simple. Sewing skills really help out. Now, to find the time.
I have really enjoyed fresh fruit this summer. I have not had any bad watermelon this summer, and I have a cantalope to cut up now. Our supermarket finally is beginning to be consumer friendly and is selling mixed fresh fruit containers - just say YUM. I do believe I'll be rejoining WW in the next few weeks. I still need to work on the 'Movin' part of our logo. ;) :running:
My friend that lost her Mother is 8 weeks into the Optifast weight loss program. I followed this plan about 15 years ago and lost just over 100 pounds. The worst part was attempting to keep the weight off. Hopefully at some point, I'll master this. After all, summer is half way over. I would have loved to be able to say I've lost half the weight I want to. ;) :flow1:
Again, thanks for the new home CAT. :smug: :welcome3: ;)
08-06-2006, 04:10 PM
Hal--I think you have a good point about all the violence. You know, I see parents who are careful with their kids, for example junk food is a rare, rare, treat, yet they'll they let them watch junk violent TV or videos any time.
DH made walk halfway around the block (we cut up the alley), which was way better than before.
Nita (esp)--He is trying an interesting web site--diagnose-medotcom. (Do not leave out the hyphen, as you get something not nearly as good). It's an expert system, and asks an incredibly detailed history. I'll let you know if it's any good; maybe you'd want to try it for your digestive problems.
With E sick, there is extra stuff to do. And we had a Hiroshima Day vigil downtown. Very scary all the nuclear threats. Must try to get ready before tomorrow.
08-06-2006, 05:42 PM
Cat - I was in Hiroshima some years ago for August 6th. It's an amazing place. There were several of the survivors there for the ceremony. They are very frail now but they survive. They are revered.
The trail of origami cranes is amazing. There were thousands of them. If I remember when I get back from Weipa, I will upload some photos of the place. If any of you ever get to Japan, it is a very good place to visit. There is a museum there which every single person on this earth should see and experience.
Can't stop. Nice to see so many posting. Must be the new home.
08-06-2006, 08:10 PM
We had some rain showers today.:carrot: I was jumping for joy when I drove down my street and saw the rain, unfortunately it's was lightning and apparently it hit a transformer. We'll I was not aware of that so when I tried to open my garage door it wouldn't work. Then I tried to manually open it, not realizing the power was out. We'll to make a long story short, the door ended up jaming and the wirerope got tangled. I tried to fix it, but didn't want to put my hand up their. Had to call a repair man, and it cost $ 190 to come out on a sunday. I would of left it for tomorrow BUT the door was halfway up and that's just inviting someone to come in my garage. I have to remind myself that even though that not in my budget, to be grateful that I have the money to repair it.
Hal - Is optifast still around? Is that the protein diet? The sales tax break this weekend applies to any type of clothing that is under $ 100.00 The funny thing is it doesn't apply to school supplies.

Hey Movers and Losers!
I snagged this recipe from the front page of 3FC, and it looks so good. I cannot wait to try it. So, here goes...
1 red bell pepper per person
1-2 T of olive oil, depending on how many you make. Enough to coat.
1 T basil
1 T oregano
1/8 c LF shredded mozarella per person
Cut bell pepper into strips. Toss in a bowl with oil and spices. Spread in a baking dish. Bake at 350 for 20 minutes. Sprinkle mozzarella over peppers. Bake for another 10 minutes, or until mozzarella is browned and peppers are to your desired consistency. At 30 minutes, they still were crisp-tender, which is how we enjoy them.
I dedicate this recipe to future success and our good friend, Thin!

Good Evening Ladies,
I had one of those dizzy spell days yesterday and did manage to bowl in a tournament but when I came home I made Gene dinner and then I went to bed for a nap. I did not wake up until Gene woke me at 9:00 p.m. I then proceeded to my room and slept the entire night until 6:00 a.m. this morning. I still felt dizzy and took another antivert pill and after breakfast I felt much better. Then I took Gene to his therapy. I tried going to my gym to work out but it was closed due to illness.
I did, however, manage to get back there this afternoon and after my exercising I was allowed a "free" trial of an infra sauna type machine. I was in this machine for 15 minutes and I truly was sweating but afterwards and even now I feel great. My leg which usually bothers me at night seems to be fine. I went on the internet checking out prices for your own sauna and they really aren't that expensive. Supposedly it can take care of a lot of medical problems. Have any of you been in any saunas? Gene initially thinks it is a waste of money. I, however, don't think it is.
Well I had better get moving. It really is great posting again!

Good Tuesday Morning Girls!
I am preparing to go in today to get ready for the next 3 days of training I'll be presenting to the faculty with a team of teachers. My room remains blocked off due to maintenance work, but I'll have to work around the obstacles and just make due. If I did not mention it, it flooded for the 4th time in 5 years. Tiles have popped out of the floors, all ceiling tiles are missing, mold is growing... I'll stop on that one.
Nita: My Grandmother use to suffer from the periodic dizzy spells, and she would be incapacitated for a while. It was Mynears syndrome, and inner ear problem. It never went away, she just had to be prepared for flare ups. I have little to no experience with saunas, but this sounds nice.
Shad: Always good to hear from you... good luck keeping your internet connection while working. Some things are just necessary. LOL
Cat: So, I have the news on early yesterday only to catch a news clip from W in Crawford, Texas. We are in the middle of a middle east crisis, and he is hanging at the ranch? Scary, scary, scary. Queen Knorr was on the Today show this AM doing her level best to explain what could precipitate peace, repeating time after time the facts. To deaf ears I am afraid.
OneDay: We are due to cool off here today, hope your weather does the same. Yes, believe it or not Optifast is still around, and still about the same price as it was 15 years ago. I've been watching the newest celebrity weight loss club with the Wilson girl. I read her second book about weight loss surgery, and the experiences. It is a tuff go, whatever you do.
Well girls, I'm shopping for red pepper treats from my posted recipe. Yum-O!
08-09-2006, 09:50 PM
Not good day for DH--of course, the heat doesn't help.
Just doesn't seem to me to be primarily a physical therapy problem, regardless of the the Super Doctor said.
08-10-2006, 06:58 AM
Nita - hope those dizzy spells go away from you. It must be so difficult when you have so much to do with looking after the DH and exercising and the stress of to move or not to move.
Hal - the one thing that amazes me about supermarkets and food people is that they haven't yet cottoned on to the fact that a fair proportion of the population is now living in a single situation. Particularly women. I would have thought that by now they would have started putting things in packs for one - recipe books are just as bad. When did you last see a book named - Recipes for 1 person, or Eating alone or whatever. It's tough trying to cut recipes down sometimes.
Oneday - lucky you - got some rain. Heck I wish we could have some.
While I think about it, my trip to the States later this year is postponed to March or April of next year. By the time I finish this new contract in October, and get over my sisters visit and my brothers 50th, it will be too cold over there to make it. I don't mind cold weather, but trying to cope with driving on the 'wrong' side of the road and the bad weather would be just too much. So I'll wait until spring. I'm sure you will all be still there.
Sunday, I leave for Weipa. I'll be away around 8 weeks. Hopefully there will be a trip or two home during that time, but since this mob don't seem to have much in the way of organisational skills, I wouldn't bet on too much. I see from the schedule, I am already booked to do two courses on the same day, at the same time and 100k apart in two different mines. Right maybe I'll undertake the cloning process tomorrow. Should be interesting. I've had to fight all the way to get information so I can alert the family as to where I will be and when, until today I didn't even know where I will stay while there. I had to threaten not to go to get that information as well. Bah humbug.
Okay, best go throw some more stuff in the case while I remember and then off to bed. Tomorrow is another day and at least it is Friday even if I am not ready for this weekend.
08-13-2006, 02:04 PM
Hello Ladies -
Still hot here in Texas. Yesteday we got some good rains showers but unfortunately they were scattered and my house didn't get any. Yesterday I went to my 30th reunion from my 8th grade class. I went to Catholic school and after 8th grade most of them went on to Catholic High School. There were probably 10 of us who went out to public. It was so much fun getting to together and talking about school days. Two of the priest showed up at our reunion, who are no longer that at parish. Lots of fun. Funny how some people never changed.
08-13-2006, 04:45 PM
Well it is still hot in Phoenix, however the other night we did get a really good down pour of rain--the first one since the beginning of April or earlier.
Gene is still progressing with therapy but he really gets awfully tired afterwards. Tuesday we have an appt. to have him fitted for diabetic shoes. Perhaps that will help with the walking.
My dizziness has seemed to subsided for the moment and I am trying to get back on track to exercising and losing weight. I gave up the idea of the sauna but I am now looking at one of these personal Tens Units. This is what they use at the Chiropractor's on my leg. I really believe that is why my leg is almost back to normal. This unit can be used on any part of your body. It is especially good for sore muscles. If I get one, I will let you know how good it is.
My friends and I are going to view the new Cardinals Stadium which is located about 10 minutes from my house on Saturday. I had to obtain tickets even though they were free. This way they have numbered the amount of people who will be there at certain times. After that we are going to have lunch and then play some pinnochle.
No one answered me re "Do you Think YOu Can Dance." The finale is this Wed. and it will be on four two hours.
Well I had better get moving. I have good intentions of cleaning my bathroom so I won't have so much to do during the week.
08-15-2006, 09:03 PM
Hello Ladies -
Nita - not too sure what the tens unit is? Is it something they wrap around you? Glad the dizzness has subsided? Do you think it could be the heat? I really didn't watch the "So you think you can dance" but the new dance show is starting soon, Can't think of that name, but Emmett Smith a former Dallas Cowboy is going to be on, so i might try and catch some shows. I'm glad you got some rain. It is really needed here. The lake near me is about 14 ft down. We're on a water ration. Yikes, I guess it could be worse.
Not much going on with me. Planning on taking a vacation day friday. I have got to get organized. I have 2, now I said 2 big 16gal containers with papers. I need to either file them or get ride of them. I'm a pack rat when it comes to papers.
Shad - have you left yet?
Hal - when does school start for you, with kids that is?
Cat - any storytelling events coming up?
Mooz - are the kids back to school?
Hope to hear from you all soon!
08-17-2006, 05:13 AM
Short note from me, unfortunately. Yes I am away in Weipa. We've had some awful problems and some loud arguments, but it's now mostly okay. Was a good day today. Sent several planners speechless with the hints, tips and tricks I dish out at the end of the day. One had his head in his hands uttering profanities thick and fast. Why, why, why don't they take the time to teach people the basics before they start teaching them the complicated stuff - which would not be so complicated if they just knew the basics. Another 6.30 start tomorrow so bed calls. Gotta go.
08-17-2006, 11:16 PM
Another hot day here in Texas. High was 104. Stayed indoors. Planning on taking a vacation day tomorrow. Working on cleaning or as Mooz would say "dejunking" the house.
Shad - Here's hoping tomorrow a better day for you.
08-19-2006, 06:20 PM
Sunday, I am having a day off and came down for breakfast and then decided to check the mail. Lo and behold, today it worked. Yesterday I could e-mail but not post on sites.
I'm off to go swimming shortly. This afternoon we are going to a Pilates class. Tomorrow it's back to work and back to sorting out how to keep the interest of the masses while drumming information that they don't want or need into them. I'm now resorting to using SAP as the bribe. Yep that's right SAP as a bribe. Never thought you would see the day that a computer programme became a bribe hey?
What I am going to do is to get them into SAP which they are beginning to realise is not the ogre they thought. Get them the Business process for the particular transaction and then give them a hint, tip or trick to make life a little easier. New slide, new process, new hint. On and On and On. One of them tells me to cut the crap and just show them how to use it. Ha Ha Ha.
Nice weather up here although the locals are complaining it is somewhat cool in the mornings. You can get sunburnt by 9.00am up here.
The beaches are lovely, the sunsets are a joy to behold. If nothing else, you should get to see some shots of sunsets after I get home. Haven't seen any crocs, though I am told that there are some at a beach further down the road. The car I am driving can not go on most of the roads, so we are sort of cast here in town. Not being part of the club, we don't get invites often from the locals, and are not always able to accept when we do because of work commitments. Somehow, we will get out of town and look into the wilderness soon.
Last night we went for a walk down the beach. There were no crocodiles around and plenty of people and dogs. Obviously the locals know where and when to walk there. Went shopping yesterday and brought some more shorts since I didn't bring enough casual clothes with me. Silly me - bad packing 10 tee shirts and one pair of capris and one pair of cargo shorts.
Just met a bloke from the next computer who is going to give me a card for a helicopter company so we might get a sightseeing flight sometime soon. Might be better than a boat for seeing things. Ask and ye shall receive!!!!!
Anyway I better go get organised for the day and see what else gives.
08-20-2006, 02:29 PM
Good Sunday afternoon movers and losers...
I did it. I drove the extra 40 minutes to a better WW location, and joined. It was really hard to do. Hard to face the weight. I promise you I was not mistaking the look of 'good luck' as I weighed in well over 300 pounds yesterday. I think it bothered her more than me, really. It did not bother me, I just noticed. There is a thin person alive and well inside this body, now to free her.
This WW location is a base location, not a local church with temporary set up provisions. The instructor clearly was well informed, and motivating. She explained some of the basic things 3 times to make the point. Oddly, I just heard the WW leader at the church I joined in January just left the organization. I knew her heart was not in it, you can just tell. Her presentations were low key, and not motivational at all. Ironically I had her 7 or 8 years previously, and could see a difference. I guess it would be really hard to watch so many people struggle over the years losing and regaining. I pray I can beat the odds this one time.
I have a teacher friend that joined 2 weeks ago, and as of yesterday he has lost 14 pounds. He admitted he has been walking more and moving more to increase his weight loss. Moving and losing, what a concept!;) It will be good to have a buddy there to keep me honest and we can motivate each other.
Shad: Helicopter, wow. How far from home are you now? Who is watching your Kitty? I cannot think of a nicer way to get exercise than a nice walk on the beach. Tell us more when you have time or can get on line.
OneDay: DeJunk is the word. I did not do as much as I should have this summer and find myself disgusted. I had visions of a clean and organized place. More on the things to do list. The groomer at Rocky's vet must have quit. I had a voice mal that they no longer have the groomer, and his appt this week will not be possible. The good news is he really can go another week, but now to find a good person I can trust. School started last Wednesday. I am getting ready to run in now for a few hours to work out a few things for this weeks lessons. Back on the saddle again...:flow2:
Nita: I loved the first dance show series, but I am not so sure I'll watch this one. I don't seem to have time unless I tape in advance and watch when I can. I am not sure I know many of the contestants this time either! Good to hear your and Gene are doing well. I've never heard of any long term positive results fromt the tens units. It seems to be just one of those things folks eventually seem to determine they just may have gotten better over time with or without it. I hope your luck is better. I hate to admit it, I was sore from just cleaning up after an exploding toilet tank episode. The ball cock unit simply took off as if it were the space shuttle and the water flowed as if a geyser in full bloom. I got soaked, the carpet was soaked, the pipe coming into the wall decided to leak at the same time so the tank could not be readily turned off, and did I forget to mention it was the at 5:30A on the first day of school? LOL I took it as God's way of telling me to have patience with the students - I've been pretty self centered I guess, wallowing in my own 'stuff' and comes a time to pull one's self up by the boot straps, say thanks for all I have and become productive once again. :sunny:
Cat: Have you seen the movie, "The Interpreter". It is all about violence in our world, and the UN in action to mediate. It is a mystery, thriller with very little violence - my kind of movie. Nichole Kidman is in it. She does a very good job in this one. I highly recommend this one. I have the roasted thin red peppers in the oven now... they are so good! :dizzy: I decided to name the recipe 'thin' roasted red peppers in honor of our friend Thin. I'm convinced half of the weight loss management saga is planning.
Well girls I have more to do today than time will allow. I wanted to take a few minutes to say hello to each of you and wish you all continued success in our saga to keep moving and losing!
08-21-2006, 04:37 PM
Been a long time since i've posted. I have not been keeping track of things and gained all my weight back. Just down on myself too. Happened to check into our movers and losers pages and got such a smile from Hal's post. Thanks for still thinking of me! You are so sweet. Best of luck re-joining ww's. YGG~~
I don't know what i'm going to do but i must start somewhere. Hopefully posting on here again will help alot. I can try some new recipes and get new ideas on just where to begin.
I will read back to catch up a bit and post more soon.
08-21-2006, 10:12 PM
:welcome: Hey Thin WELCOME back girl. Trust me, you are not the only one struggling. I feel better just knowing I am back at WW. I just got in from an evening meeting in Lexington. I drove home and did not do a 'drive thru'. You know, drive throughs are just as dangerous as drive bys, huh?
Again, so good to know you are doing well, and coming home! :welcome:
08-22-2006, 04:55 AM
I swear I posted last night. Maybe I didn't. Therefore much of the below will not make sense.
Didn't get to the aquarobics class I planned on - it was too cold according to the trainer - only 76 hey. So I went for a walk instead. Then veged out with the tv. One trainer and I have organised a mercy mission for Sept 2,3 and have booked a luxurious resort in Cairns for some serious r&r. It will be nice. Next Saturday we are supposedly going to a ball - dancing under the stars - whether it turns out that posh I don't know. I'll keep you posted.
I'm tired and a bit depressed - training went okay - the men are all too polite to say otherwise anyway. However I had a 'blonde' day and couldn't remember it all. In fact the Strategies and Mtce plans went right out of my head. Most of the training material didn't work. So life just went on and on and on. Finished that course now. Got other things to work on. I will get over it I guess.
08-23-2006, 05:28 PM
On my morning off and I have come in for breakfast before the mess closes at 7.30am. I have packed my lunch for the day and am about to finish my coffee, go back to the 'room' and go to the gym for some weight work. I'd better check the times out before I go back or I may have taken a walk for nothing.
Having a few problems with breathing up here. The sinus' have again come into play and it doesn't help that the powers that be have decided to build a road outside the block of rooms that I live in. I think it is a temporary road while they reseal the original up the line a bit. The red dust gets everywhere. Not good for sleeping at night either. Woke up several times during the night with a rotten headache which only disappeared with copious quantities of water and panadol.
The stars up here are quite fantastic. The absence of street lights helps of course. I should get myself a book on the constellations etc. I might be able to recognise some more. I (thought) I saw Mars the other day. I thought to myself, geez I have never seen it that red - later I realised there were two red planets out there - d'oh it's a communication mast you dummy!!! When I am on my morning runs I can see Orion in the north and the famous Southern Cross in the East along with it's two pointers - Alpha Centaurus and minor (I think) Alpha Centaurus is the brightest star in these southern skies. It really shines. The Milky Way floats overhead and most mornings I get a moonlit path to guide me along. It's just magic.
The weekend rolls around again. We are already at Thursday. I need to check on the bus times for the ball on Saturday night. Yes they put on a bus to take the revellers to and from the ball. It should be an interesting time to go to a country ball after all these years. I have a balinese inspired sarong skirt and a shiny stretchy bright blue top to wear and some caramel coloured sandals. Not ball gown exactly but it is reasonably classy. I'm just gald that I put it in the bag at the last minute.
Hal - Weipa is about as far away from Brisbane as you can get in Queensland and still be in the same State. I think we are are something like about 2000km from home.
That's about it from sunny Weipa this morning - time to go check out the gym. I'll be back.
08-23-2006, 10:56 PM
Thin - So good to hear from you. Hope you keep coming back. Oh, like Hal said your not the only one struggling. My clothes are getting so tight, it's depressing. I sit and think what can I do. What diet should I try. I know I just need to exercise, but i'm always so tired when I get home. I'm trying though. Anway. How have you been? How's hubby? Are you heading back to AZ this winter?
Hal - So how was your meeting? Was this your first weigh in? Way to go for not going thru the drive thru. I know many years ago I use to frequent a Braum's Ice Cream store, then one day, when I pulled up, they recognized me and knew exactly what I was going to order. That's when I decided I needed to stop going. Ok. I still go but not as often.
Shad - I was cleaning up this weekend and came across my "backyard Stars pamplet". Too bad I can't email it to you. I"m sure the stars are just beautiful as night. Too bad about the road repairs, hope you don't have to inhale the bad stuff too long. Is the ball for all the contractors or for the employees too?
As for me not much going on. Still hot, and still under water restrictions. We did get some scattered showers yesterday and today. But only for a few minutes where I live.
Nita, Mooz & Cat - Hope to hear from you all soon!

Good Morning Ladies,
Wow! It's great to hear from you, Thin. We really missed your enthusiasm and wonderful posts. As Patty stated, I, too, am having a difficult time with dieting. I did join Slender Lady two months ago and was very diligent in going to exercise three times a week. However, after 4 weeks of taking Gene to the rehab center three times a week, I have developed sore legs and some back pain. I am attributing it to putting the walker (it weighs 16-1/2 lbs.) in and out of the trunk and I don't think that would be all that bad except that now I need to push him on the walker because he does not have the strength to walk. The Physical Therapist said he has had some great improvement but I am not sure this is correct. In fact, today he could not even make it into the kitchen for breakfast so I had to call and cancel his appointment. I am at my witt's end because I am not sure what to do next!
I am still continuing to bowl at least 3 times a week and I do believe that releases a lot of the stress I have. Each morning I tell myself this will be a better day and that I will eat sensibly and somehow before the end of the day I end up not doing so.
Shad -- it sounds like you have a very interesting position and you get to see a lot of interesting places. I am not quite sure exactly what it is you are training these men to do. Does it mainly have to do with running a special program on the computer?
I am sorry haven't been diligent in posting more often, but I will endeavor to make an effort to do so in the future.
Take care all,

What a tragic and sad day here in central Kentucky. I'm sure you have read or seen the news regarding the airplane crash at Bluegrass Airport. My first visit to this town was via a plane trip landing at this airport back in the early 80's. I know I am more sensitive to tragedy in general, based upon my family experience with it in the recent past. My thoughts and prayers remain with the remaining families and friends of the victims of this crash.
OK, are you sitting down? I lost weight this first week back at Weight Watchers. I lost major first week this time. I guess if you keep trying something over and over, sooner or later you get it. OK, I know you are curious by now. 7.6 pounds lost. I cannot believe it either. I did all of the things they suggest, eating every last point, and walking more if at each opportunity during the day. I am very excited at the thought that this may actually work for me. I've wondered.
I am getting over a rather bad summer cold that presented itself in it's beginning stages Thursday morning. I was a mess yesterday, but still drove the 40 minutes to go weigh in. I came home and vegged all afternoon, and have done the same today. I do feel better. Now, if you could see my things that must be done list, and they are not done.
I'm getting ready to run a few errands now, so I won't have time to post individually now. I'll post more soon.
All the best movers and losers...!!!!! ;)
08-27-2006, 08:40 PM
Hal - I am so Happy for you. I gave out a big "hor-ray" and Blackie came running to see what I was yelling out. That is wonderful. YOU GO GIRL! :carrot: Doing the happy dance for ya. Keep it up. You got me motivated, I think I'll get on the treadmill tonight. When I saw the news this morning, my first thoughts of course where with the families on that flight, then I thought of you. Was not sure how close you were to that city.
Nita - I'm glad your able to keep your bowling up. You definitely need a stress releaser. Maybe next time you can talk to his physical therapist and let her know your concerns.
Not much going on here. We did get some light showers, which did help the temperature.
08-27-2006, 08:57 PM
:carrot: :bravo: :jig: :flow2: :dancer: :woo: :whoo:Fantastic numbers on your first week at WW Halgal~~~YGG. So proud of you. Like you say we are able to do even better on things after we have practiced for all these years! LOL
I don't think i will start WW meetings, but i still have all my old stuff....course now they use even newer ways to lose wt. Which way are you doing it now?
1DAY~~hope you did your treadmill:goodvibes Keep up the good work and HI to Blackie~~
~~NITA~~ sorry to hear of the latest turn of things w/Gene. That does seem odd that he seemed worse...are they pushing him too hard? Hope something changes and your back feels better soon. I heard the monsoon season has been quite wicked down there. Our trailer is still doing fine. A neighbor who lives in that park year round keeps me informed via email. He is a doll.
Hi to all the rest...have to get off this thing and get to bed at a decent hour. Tomorrow will be very long. A funeral for my 2nd cousin...and she was way too young. Only 67. Had heart problems and i guess something happened that could not be fixed(like an aneurism? type thing) Well, she lived life to the fullest. Still had such a youthful attitude. Very well loved lady.
All for now, i will return!:moped:  bye for now,
08-28-2006, 10:33 PM
Thin - So sorry to hear about your cousin, and yes your right 67 is way to young.
Yes I did get on the treadmill last night, tonight was too tired, but I did walk for about 30 minutes at work. Don't know if I mentioned, I have been listening every night to a hypnosis tape. I don't know if it's working or not, but I have noticed that i'm not munching as much. I put the tape on when I go to bed.
08-29-2006, 11:07 PM
OK, guys. I went to the dr and found I'd gained 8 pounds. Thought I was at least close to stable. So discouraged I didn't feel like writing. Don't know what I'll do, but I think cutting off from you all is not the answer.
My other tests were pretty good, though my white count jumped a bit. Re-test in three rather than 6 months.
Hal, good for you!
Nita, that must be terribly frustrating for both of you. Even though Earl's doing better--he's only had two PT sessions but already it seems to help. She's given him a lot of practical ideas, like on getting up safely and using the cane. I think if Gene's having that much problems I'd get him to the doctor. Not all PT's are good, and this one could be in over her (his?) head. Just from reading, doesn't sound like any reasonable person could say he's better.
08-29-2006, 11:23 PM
I was scheduled to do 6 hours of training today. 2 x 3 hour classes with part 2 to follow along tomorrow - another 6 hours of training. Well I got through the entire course in 2 hours so tomorrow is looming large as a non work day. Oh no that's right, I have 1 course to do in the afternoon.
One can not exactly say we are overworked in this place.
Paradise palls somewhat when you find yourself with nothing to do and nowhere to go. I can swim, go to the gym (when either of those places are open) I can walk the 3k down to the shops and back again if the other trainers need the car, but there is little I want to buy there anyway. So I read my book and nap and do little else. I'm still trying to find pictures to snap for you to enjoy - so far I have umpteen sunsets and a couple of feisty kookaburras, a couple of my cell - whoops sorry room - and a water jungle. Life is not at the moment interesting. Maybe I'll go sit on the railway lines naked and they will declare me troppo, send me off to get the burns dressed and then send me home. Anyway...........
Good luck with WW Hal, sounds like you are off to a flying start.
Hello to all the others. I wish Mooz would drop in and say hello from time to time.
08-30-2006, 10:12 PM
I was thinking--don't they have volunteers to help you come in from the parking lot? Gosh, they sure seem to have people to take you OUT in every hospital I or a family member has been in.

Happy Labor Day Weekend Movers and Losers!
I hope this finds everyone enjoying some extra time off work this holiday weekend. Nothing like personal time to do the things we enjoy most.
Take a peek below, look at my weight tracker! How many years have I been posting, reading, trying to master this weight loss saga. I am ever so thankful for all the elements have have finally brought together a working plan for me. So thankful. I lost 2.2 pounds this week! :flow2: :dancer: :flow2: I told my weight loss buddy I would do well to hang on to the 7.6 pounds I lost last week - which is a world record for me. By the way, he has now lost 27 pounds - he started 2 weeks earlier than I did. You can really see the difference in him. He was on his way to purchase a new belt after the meeting Saturday - which was very neat. So WOO HOO, praise God and all above for this success.
THIN: There has been much saddness here also. The plane crash here last Sunday has been really difficult at many levels. Most of the victims were from here, so many of us know someone that loved someone on that plane. I did not know anyone personally, but I did know the attorney from a professional relationship from my previous property management career. It all hurts, it is all shocking and sad. I am just doing the points plan with WW. They have a new program (financial) called monthly pass which includes the use of ETools. It is a nice option, and I think will be really helpful and supportive with new recipes, and both weight and points tracker options. I'm going to ask my doctor to prescribe the program for me so I can deduct this from my medical flexible spending account - which will add about a 30% cost reduction. All good news these days, huh. ;)
Nita: I hope you and Gene are enjoying the holiday. You know, I hired day care to come into my home to help with my Grandmother. It helped tremendously. I had to do something because I have to work to support myself. Maybe this person could also help you take him to the doctor appointments and such. It will still be stressful, but less stress if that makes any sense at all. Hang in there, and sending all good thoughts your way!;)
OneDay: Thanks for the good words, and I do hope we can help motivate and help each other. The last 2 years were of 'hibernation' for me I think. If I look back - I worked and slept. One thing that I am doing differently is making sure the things I munch on are fruits or veggies. They can be tasty if you plan for them. Stay on that treadmill, I wish I had all these years. I gave up the health club, I could not deal with the nasty, dirty condition some of the large guys would leave the equipment in - full of sweat and oooh that smell. They would quickly wipe the equipment off, but trust me - it was nasty. I complained to no avial. When I join a club again, I'll more than likely join a club for women here.
CatLover: Hang in there... if you are like me it is easy to gain, difficult to lose. Keep posting, I think it helps. I've been reading another thread for folks with more weight to lose like myself. The more things I read help me remain focused on my goal. I"ve never (as in ever) lost 7 pounds my first week of any type of dieting, so imagine my shock to lose the next week. I am already afraid for week 3. A horrible way to feel, but honest.
Shad: Sad Aussie news this AM with the accidental death of Steve Irwin - the crocodile hunter. I'm not really up on StingRays but gosh. I hope your work pans out for you... good job of staying active while traveling and working.
Mooz... How are ya doing girlfriend? God any cool art to share with us?
Well I have much to do today, even tho is is my birthday! Yup, add one more year to the mix. :o :hat: Have a good OP week ladies!
09-04-2006, 09:40 PM
Been having a hard time to get on the site over the holiday weekend...my computer would lock up on the home 'support' page....don't know what was up as other web pages were fine
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO HALGAL:hb: :gift: You are so on the right track now....keep up all the great work at WW. those 2 great weeks of wt.loss makes me very happy:carrot:
Yes, such sad news w/that plane crash near you HalGal....
And now the loss of Steve Irwin...his wife and family will have a lot to go thru. That little girl 'Bindy" is sooooo cute.
Too many parties for too long this summer. And of course this weekend was no exception. Things have to slow down and DH and I need to get on track w/some walks and things. He needs new walking shoes so in the next day or two we have to get some shopping done. I probably could use a new pair too.
Hi to CAT~~~ A gain is not a nice thing to discover ...like you said esp. since you thought you were holding steady at the worst. I totally understand cause i think i am there too....and i thought i will just maintain! Somehow as we age that is not even very darn easy! :?: :?:
I think 1day asked if we are going back to AZ. Yes, in Dec. we will make our trek. DH's mom is turning 70 and there will be a big family gathering in mid Dec. to celebrate it. I guess all her children will attend. That is what we are aiming for anyway!
Nita~~ hope you and Gene are well and can find some help and answers soon. Like HalGal said...home care might be an option. Good luck to you...you are a strong woman :strong: Be good to yourself too! You deserve it.
HI to all the rest...must go now. I will try to post again soon.
09-05-2006, 09:32 PM
Good Evening Ladies,
Just a short note to let you know I am reading your wonderful posts and HalGal, I am especially proud of your two-week weight loss.
Today I had to take Gene to the urologist's office to get his tube changed out and it was rather difficult getting up there. I have ordered a transport chair and hopefully that will it better. I also was so frustrated that I called the Physical Therapy outfit and asked them to cancel his appointments for September. I also requested the head PT fax a note over to Gene's doctor that he needs in-home therapy. Hopefully this may work out better. I guess I am using this situation to eat whatever I want and I have literally forgot about dieting. I know this is not the right thing to do but for now that is what is happening. I had been doing quite well for almost a month. HalGal perhaps I should join WW again. I am just not sure!
I am sorry this post isn't a happy one, I will try to do better tomorrow!
09-05-2006, 10:05 PM
Hal--congrats on the 2-week loss!
Nita--is there a dr of physical medicine Gene can go to? DH has been to one, which neither of us every did before when we've been in PT. But it's really helped.
I can relate a little bit, because Earl's problem is so stressful and it's hard to know the future. But we need to remember to take care of ourselves, too (she preached to herself).
And I will keep posting.
I haven't wanted to have a scale for years, because I get so hooked. But there's no place handy any more to weigh away from home. So maybe I should get one. Any thoughts?
Night to all.
09-05-2006, 11:09 PM
Happy Belated Birthday HAL! - Hope you had a great day, and CONGRATS and your 2.2 weight loss. :carrot: I am so happy for you. That is a wonderful 2 week loss. Your friend is doing great too.
Nita - So sorry to hear about Gene. I sure hope the doctor orders the PT for home. Try to have low calorie treats at home and on hand as you go through this stressful time. Keeping you in my prayers.
Cat - I tend to do better when I do get on the scale. When I lose of course that keeps me motivated to stay on track. When I gain because it's that TOM or to much salty foods I have to remind myself that. Right now i'm not getting on the scale because I know i'm eating the wrong foods.
Thin - I"m with you on the too many parties this past summer. Well hope you all get your new walking shoes and get back on track.
We'll Ladies - I went and workout tonight. Yes you heard me right. Worked out. A friend of mine has been going to this personal trainer who trains at home. She has 5 clients in the morning and 6 in the evening. I've been thinking about this for months, and just kept thinking. WE'll when I decided it was time to join of course it was full. WE'll a opening came up, and I decided it's now or never. Had my first workout this evening and I'll be joining my group on thursday. Wish me luck.
09-06-2006, 08:10 PM
1Day--good for you. HOw does it work? Do you need equipment at home?
I was also thinking of tape measure instead of scales. The advantage is that it ocncentrates on fat loss. Not have TOM problem now;)
09-06-2006, 09:01 PM
The death of Steve Irwin has hit hard amongst the nature and conservation people as he was such an outspoken advocate. However although death at 44 is tragic, at least he died as he lived doing something he loved. Wish that we could all do that when the time comes. His family will miss him, the Australia Zoo will miss him and his Dad looks so stricken to have lost his best mate. He has vowed to carry on the work of Steve Irwin although he has none of the charisma and outspokeness of Steve.
I'm still here in Weipa, still trying to find things for me to do, still not enough work to go around. Life goes on and I am waiting for some information so I can go home early. There is just not enough work for 3 of us.
Nita, sorry to hear of the problems you are having with the DH and medical matters. Makes it very hard to keep your own life on track. Hope something pops up to make life easier for you both soon.
Hal - Happy belated birthday. And big congratulations on the weight loss over the past couple of weeks. You are doing so well. Just goes to show what determination plus some achievement can do.
Not much happening here, but it is good to see and hear all the doings of this thread. Catch up again as I can.
09-07-2006, 08:59 PM
Just a quick note to let you know we had a male nurse come by the house yesterday to evaluate if Gene was a candidate for in-home pt. He was thoroughly convinced and he even checked Gene over and went through all of his meds with him. Come to find out the one med--Avandia for diabetes--he was taking this at night, whereas it should be taken in the morning with his breakfast. It's amazing how much you can learn from someone who isn't rushed like the doctors. As a result of his visit, a PT will be at our home tomorrow morning around 8:00. What a relief for me because now my mornings are "free" and I will not have the chore or worry on how to get him to therapy.
Perhaps now I can get back in control of my eating.
I will write more tomorrow after our first session!
09-07-2006, 10:16 PM
Whoo Hoo Nita! I am so happy to hear things are coming together. You have been in my prayers.
One more day and the weekend will be here. Oh baby!
09-07-2006, 11:43 PM
Nita--great to hear!
09-09-2006, 08:43 PM
What's Up? That would be my weight!!! I became arrogant too quickly and did not chart my food intake this week. Add to the mix I did some birthday celebrating, and add 5 pounds. Ick. I'm determined, I"ll get right back on the plan.
I hope everyone is having a nice weekend!
09-09-2006, 09:12 PM
Know how you feel, Hal. Need to keep encouraging each other.
09-09-2006, 10:02 PM
Hal, I, too, know the feeling. Today was very good until I came home and then I just couldn't control myself and was eating everything in sight. I thank you for your prayers, and I am thinking positive that this is going to be the answer to Gene's problems.
Thanks for your posts ladies, because I needed to let someone know what I have been doing. It seems each morning I wake up thinking, "This is it, no more fooling around." And low and behold later in the same day I just seem to lose it. I bought one of those ladies' magazines "First" and in it has these ladies losing a whole lot of weight by eating what the Japanese call Shirataki noodles. Of course, you know, I managed to find them. I thought they would be in the dry spaghetti aisle, well, I was wrong, they were located in the refrigeration section. The lady told me we Americans do not like the smell of these noodles and suggested I first of all place them in cold water and then use a colendar and after that boil them for a few minutes in water and again drain them. And then I could put them in a tupperware container until I use them. I see in the article these ladies also give you a few hints. Perhaps tomorrow will be a new day and I will definitely try these noodles.
Thanks all for being here for me!
09-12-2006, 03:15 AM
 Hi chickies .... it's me again. I have been away from you for too long again!! I am going back to WW tonight. I have to get this eating in control again. I am getting worried that if I don't stop eating food that is bad for me then I will keep on doing my body harm and at 55 I should be looking after my health. So with your help I am going to make this work. :carrot: ..... now where did I put that :willpower:
I have not even been walking as much as I should. I remember when my mum was living I walked for 2 miles at least every morning. Now I only do about 1 mile and I have to make myself do that!
So I will try and post most days and keep you updated and also find out how you are all doing........ is that THIN I SEE BACK?? ...... WOW ..... and a big :welcome: to you Thin!
Gotta go now and maybe get a 2 mile walk in before work!!!!
Have a good day all ........ time for a Marston I think!
Go with it
Life can be great when you simply go with it. Instead of excessive worrying or endless analyzing, just make your choice and then move forward with it.
Your first instinct is often your best one, because it comes from your authentic self. When you start taking a lot of other conflicting opinions and perspectives into account, your options quickly shrink.
Certainly it pays to think things through, and to consider the advice of others. Just don't let it all dilute the passion that can energize your life.
Trying to make the perfect decision can often lead to no decision at all. Trying to avoid every mistake can be the biggest mistake, because you also avoid getting anything done.
Though you can plan for the future, you cannot precisely predict it. So go ahead with the best you have, and you'll be completely able to deal with whatever may happen.
Even though it has no guarantees, this day is an incredible opportunity. So step confidently, enthusiastically forward with a smile on your face and go with it.

Mooz--good to see you back!!
09-14-2006, 10:42 PM
Hello Ladies -
Been away for a few days and I see I have lots of catching up to do. I have been busy with work and EXERCISE. Yes I'm sticking to it. I workout MWF at 5:00am. Working out with a group of girls 5 of us, in a converted garage. We use hand weights, chair, mat, small step or use the outdoors. Of course if I tried at home by myself, I know I would not get the same results. It's past my bedtime, I have a 4:20am wake up call. I will post more this weekend.
09-16-2006, 08:34 PM
Way to go One day~~~You've got the right idea to get together w/a bunch of gals to get it done! :carrot: :carrot:
Proud of you. Keep it up girl!
Hi to Mooz~~ yes i'm back too, just trying to get myself into some kind of plan now to get this drat weight off. Walking is about the only exercise i can do right now. How about you?
Hi to all the rest. I will tryto post more soon!
09-17-2006, 12:29 PM
Good Sunday afternoon Movers and Losers!
Frist off, it is so nice to see both Mooz and Thin back. We are 'family', just my sister's, brothers and me! To be sang to the Sly and The Family Stone song.
Good news on the weight lost saga, I lost 2.2 of the 4.6 pounds I gained last week. Bottom line, no charting = guaranted weight gain for me. You would think after all of these years, I would have learned the basics. Anyway, it is so nice to be back on the downslide once again. My teacher friend has now lost 36 pounds or 10% of his weight loss. He received the WW 10% key chain on Saturday, it was very cool. I know he counts everything that goes into his mouth. One day after school I gave him a WW Fruitie chew. You can have an entire package (about 10 of them) for one point. They have different fruit flavors. Anyway, as he popped it into his mouth he wanted to know how many points. It never occured to me to tell him. Telling... LOL
I've been reading the posts on another support thread for folks that are over 300 pounds. Girls, this posting rate is incredible, and I cannot keep up with them. They do have lots of good ideas, mostly on my least favorite topic exercise.
THIN: Good to hear from you again. What are you doing to start your weight loss saga again. I know maintenance is the worst part. I don't think I'll ever be maintenance, I'll always have to watch it.
Mooz: Thanks as always for the Marsten. How are your children? Hey I think Hal is coming your way again next March. Get ready! LOL
OneDay: I cannot believe, and am so :flow1: proud:flow1: of you. Exercise is key, we already know that. I appreciate the extra motivation from hearing about you, but goodness you are getting up a tad earlier than I could ever imagine. I get up an hour later, and that is tuff. What time is bed time? Hang in there, the results will be well worth it.
CatLover: How is Earl doing? You have not said much of late. I hope you are both doing well.
Shad: It's been a while, I hope the job you are on is not stressing you out. How long until you return home? Let's hear the daily adventures of Shad! You know I want to know about the food as you travel.
Nita: How is the home health care coming along? I hope it is opening doors of freedom for you to do things for you. It is difficult to find good help, and it is important that you monitor the quality of the care - continually.
I watched a strange movie late last night with Jennifer Anniston, "Friends With Money". It was strange all the way through, and ended thus-ly.
Hey guys Rachel Ray's new show starts tomorrow. I receive her magazine and am a big fan. She is really up to date with new ideas, not the same old thing. I hope we get it here, and I'll actually tape this show.
I have a personal day scheduled for Friday, I am excited. I have a good friend from out of state coming in Thursday eveing to visit. It's been 5 years since I've seen this person, and I am feeling older and naturally... heavier. Such is life.
So, I"m house cleaning, potting pretty white mums I snagged at WalJunk, and sweeping the deck to enjoy a summer dinner on the deck Thursday evening. Just say ahhhh....
I hope everyone has an OP week! :yoga: :dust: :running:
09-17-2006, 04:30 PM
It's so good to have Mooz and Thin back. I am right there with them. I really need to get motivated. I told Gene just now tomorrow I am dejunking our home with all non-diet foods. All of a sudden he seems to have lost his appetite, and therefore, more food is left for me to eat. Our in-home physical therapy is going quite well, however, the therapist discovered another serious problem. It seems Gene's diastolic reading is way too low. We have been monitoring it and it ranges anywhere from 44 to 56 and occasionally 62. We have an appointment with doc on Wed. As I stated before, I am back to my old habit of eating when I am stressed or frustrated.
I met one of my friends from the Y yesterday and she convinced me to try a 7:30 a.m. yoga class where you sit on a chair. Perhaps this will get me started. The weather is finally cooling off so quite soon I will be able to get on my treadmill in the garage. Because of eating too many carbs, it seems I have to take a nap almost every day. This is not good because then it is hard for me to fall asleep at night.
Hal, congratulations on your most recent weight loss! See, it does work--all we have to do is apply ourselves.
Take care all and have a wonderful Sunday!
09-17-2006, 05:06 PM
Quick post as I am out to meet and greet again in a few minutes. Nothing much happening here really. Weather is fine and warming up - not that it ever got cold really (but the natives apparently think so). Yesterday I went up to Pennefather River and Beach. It was fun. 2 crazy characters who never stopped talking and never stopped taking the mickey out of each other, me and/or their delightful children. We had a brunch out on the beach and cavorted around in the 4x4 bush bashing and sand blasting. Lots of fun. Saw a croc - small only a couple of years old (still not trustworthy), lots of sea eagles, sand pipers, snapes, pelicans and herons, an Emu, a Wallaby and some of the most beautiful parrots I have ever seen. Saw some bush lakes (depressions in the ground which are constantly full of water for the animals etc.) Oh yes and we saw the tracks left by turtles coming up the beach to lay their eggs in the warm sand. Poor turtles - seems everything loves to eat the turtle eggs and the little turtles - man, pig, birds, etc. It is estimated that they lay around 200 eggs at a time but less than 3% survive to adulthood. There are some old WW11 planes (American Kittyhawks) that were crashlanded in the area. Apparently the pilots were on the way to New Guinea but got lost (no GPS in those days) and started back down the coastline into the Gulf. When they ran out of fuel, they had to ditch. The remnants are still there.
We got bogged in sand and belted through a lot of sapling trees. It was a lot of fun. The beach itself is about 40K long and you can drive its entire length to the mouth of the river.
Better go sort out the day

1day--wtg on the exercise!
Hal--good on the loss.
Earl doing quite well--sorry I hadn't updated. He walking without the cane, and thinks he won't need the handicapped tag next year:carrot: Sees the dr a week from today. We both wish he'd had thiskind of help years ago, but I guess many of the techniques are now or at least not available out of a specialized neurological center.
NIta--praying for you and Gene.
Shad--interesting about the planes. My husband's favorite uncle was a pilot somewhere in that area--I know he visited Australia and liked it, but not sure where he actually flew.

Nita - I hope you joined your friend at the Y. Yoga would be a great stress reliever for you. Glad the pt caught the low diastolic reading. Keeping you all in my prayers. Are you still working out at the other gym?
Shad - I'm so glad you share all your interesting sites with us. When I read your notes, I just hear that Aussie accent.
Cat - glad to hear Earl's doing good. How's working going?
Thin - I'm with Hal, I don't think i'll ever get to a maintenance place in my life. In my book any kind of exercise is a good thing. You just gotta do it!
Hal - Congrats on your 2.2 weight loss. What night and channel is Rachel Ray on? I know Paula Dean is also having a evening program. My wakeup time is 4:20am MWF and I try to get to bed by 9:30-9:45 Sun, T & Th. So far that hasn't happened. And the days I do exercise, I'm in bed by 9:30pm.
Mooz - thanks for the Marston quotes. WE missed them. Hope your having a OP day.
We'll ladies I've stayed with the program going on 2 weeks now, or 6 workouts. Got on the scale last friday and no loss, BUT it was also a week prior to TOM. My only food goal is to eat 2 fruits per day. That was it. I could still eat what I wanted. And believe it, eating 2 fruits per day is hard for me. The first week I noticed I still ate anything. This week it seems like I"m watching more of what I am eating. WE'll see. Her workouts vary, yesterday was just a weight circuit. And then of course ABS. Those about kill me. I'm really motivated to stay with this. I've noticed at work, I'm don't get as stressed as I usually do.
09-22-2006, 01:03 PM
I took two positive steps-- (1)I got a pedometer, and (2)I sent in an application for a program at the local co-op/health food store where the chef will help you with making healthier choices.
Hope you are all doing well.

Hi chickies .... just a quick call. I didn't make it to WW yet. I decided to start a word processing course and it is on a Tues night so I can't go to both!
I am trying to eat healthy. I have to go see about my Blood Pressure on Monday morning so maybe the nurse will shock me into getting healthy. :carrot: She took my blood to do tests on it over a week ago and the results of it will be in too! :dizzy:
I will report back to you then ....
Have a good weekend all .....

What it means to you
Your actions are as effective as you want them to be. When there's a real and meaningful purpose behind what you do, that's when you'll do your best.
If you find yourself getting nowhere, take a look at why you're doing what you're doing. If the level of commitment is weak, the level of achievement will be weak, too.
You unquestionably have the potential for greatness. To realize that potential, make sure there's a strong connection between your purpose and your actions.
When you have a compelling reason why, not only will you be able to figure out how to make it happen. You'll also find within yourself the drive, the commitment and the persistence to see it through.
Whatever truly means something to you is what you will give the best of yourself to. And there is no greater beauty than when that happens.
Put those things you truly care about into action. And your actions will surely bring magnificent results.

Hello Ladies -
Had my weight in yesteday morning and I lost 2.4 lbs.:carrot: I was hoping to see a bigger number, but I had to remind myself I"m also working with weights. Got some light showers this morning, which are badly needed here. I think our lake is 15ft low. Today taking it easy, a little to easy, been watching tv most of morning.
Cat - those were 2 great steps in the right direction. I have a pedometer around here to that I need to start wearing. I know when i'm in the office I don't take that many steps until I see how little I am walking. Then I try and up it.
Mooz - Hope you get some good results from your blood test. Are the kids back at school?
09-24-2006, 08:31 PM
Just a quick hello. Wasn't feeling to well today. My gall bladder has been acting up these past few days. I need to make a appointment with a gastro. doctor, but my doctor is no longer practing. Guess I need to find a new one quick.
Hope everyone is having a great day!

Mornin chickies ....:carrot: ..... not exactly how I feel but maybe I will someday .......
I went to the nurse to get my blood results yesterday and she told me the good news first ..... :D my iron was good, thyroid, liver, kidneys were all normal and I am not diabetic :carrot: :carrot: ...... BUT :( :( my cholesterol was 6.5 :^: and then she took my blood pressure .... well it was sky high but I expected that as I have got white coat syndrome ..... but she put me on to a higher strength of blood pressure tablet. She also asked me about my diet and it has to change. I have to stop the junk food as it is killing me!
So yesterday I had no junk food at all :D
I have to cut out cheese and be careful of what I add to good foods which makes them not so healthy.
I have to walk more and make sure I drink plenty of water.
Anyway I woke up this morning with a headache :( .... I haven't taken anything for it yet but I have had my breakfast and I have taken my new dose of BP medicine so hopefully it will go away soon.
The kids are all doing fine.
Paul is still working in Newcastle which is about 2 hours from here. He stays in a house in Belfast during the week and usually comes home at the weekend.
He is thinking of going on a holiday to China and Japan next month for a few weeks with a friend. They were trying to book suitable tours this weekend.
Sinead came home after my mum died and she has been doing temporary work for an employment agency since then. She is actually down at our local Health Centre finding out about a job at the moment. Hopefully she will get it and like it. She is thinking of doing a Psychology degree at the Open Univeresity soon. She had a weeks holiday this year in Ibiza with 5 girlfriends. Sha always said she would never go any of those types of holidays where it is all young people doing nothing but partying but she seemed to enjoy it.
Orla is just back from a holiday, camping in the Scandinavian countries, with her boyfriend. She went there for about 4 weeks and visited Norway, Sweden and Denmark. She only got back on Sunday night to her house in Belfast at 10.30PM and had to start University Mon morning at 11 am. What do you think she did when she got home at 10.30pm .... went straight to bed .... no she hadn't seen her friends for a month so they went out to the pub for an hour for a quick drink!!:dizzy: :dizzy: :dizzy: .... where do they get the energy from!! :D

Possibilities of now
Do you realize the incredible possibilities of now? Whatever may have come before, now you can transform it into anything you wish.
Whatever limitations may have held you back, now you have the opportunity to move past those limitations. Now, in this moment, you can act, you can learn, you can think, you can make a difference.
Now, you can change things. You can grow and improve on what already is.
You can create something that has never existed before. You can behold and give joy to the magnificent beauty that surrounds you.
Now is when the timeless treasures that live in your heart can find new and fresh expression. Now provides the space and substance for you to give life to your dreams.
Now is where your whole life has come. Now is your place to richly and joyfully be.

Just a quick message to let you all know I am still hanging in there. I had an interesting experience yesterday. I sent to our new Farmer's Market yesterday and a young man by the name of Chris Powell has come up with a new idea for losing weight. It is called the Stax System. I understand it is only available in Phoenix at this time. What it is a Cooler Pack with a Cold Gelpak and each day you pack all your food and snacks into it. The containers are color coded for breakfast, lunch and dinner. And if it is not in your pack, you do not eat it. He said it is also very important to eat every 3 hours, thereby keeping your metabolism going strong. It even comes with a timer so you won't forget when it is time to eat.
I also met one of his members, a young man who has lost 385 lbs. in 22 months. He used to weigh over 600 lbs. And he did it solely the old fashioned way! The young man took out one of his tshirts and it was wide enough for at least 3 or 4 people. What a journey this man has been on and it sure has changed his outlook on life.
Well I need to eat lunch before going bowling--will report back soon just as soon as I figure this program out.

Hello Ladies -
Mooz - Your kids are so lucky traveling all over the country. And yes, If that had been me I would of come back on saturday and slept all day sunday. But kids are young and have so much energy. I'm glad to hear your doing good on your liver, kidneys, blood surgars, but you need to work on your cholestrol. Sounds like the situation that i'm in. Hope the new BP medicine works out for you.
Nita - If it were that easy to pack the lunch and just eat what is in there. You know it is that easy, but we tend to sabatoge outselves or at least I do and talk myself out of eating what I had planned. I'm trying to do better and have more choices to choose from as far as snacks go.
As for me my gallbladder is still hurting. WE'll it's actually my right upper side, right below the breastbone. Went to see the doctor and of course all he could say we'll it could be gallbladder. I need to get a sonogram done and that will take a few days for them to get scheduled. STill exercising though, my side doesn't hurt until after i've eaten. We're having to journal our food, gosh it really does make a difference when you have to account for what you just eaten or what your about to eat.
We'll it's time for bedtime, 4:20am arrives very early.
09-27-2006, 09:20 PM
Now I need to remember to put ON the pedometer in the morning.
Went over my medicines and what they'll cost next year. Ugh!
Am looking into some other brand of glucosamine, as the arthur is acting up, and if it is like this in the lovely fall weather, how will it be come winter?
Gosh, I better get off before I drop any more gloomy stuff.
09-27-2006, 09:58 PM
I'm back at home again and looking for more work. Mind you I won't lose any sleep if I don't get work in the next month or so. I saved well while I was in Weipa.
Mooz - nice to see you back. These things are sent to try us. You've had a bit of stress in the last year so take it easy on the berating yourself. The only way I have found to bring down the blood pressure is exercise. My doctor threatened me with BP tablets and knowing how bad I am at taking anything at all over a long period of time, I was determined not to have them. My BP went from high to low/medium by going to the gym 5 times a week and it has stayed there even tho I have put a bit of weight back on again - drat!!!!!! Good to hear the kids are behaving like kids should. Say hello from me to all - including DH.
OneDay - Sorry you have had such a lot of pain lately. Hope it will all go away and behave properly soon.
Nita - sounds like you had an interesting time at the market. I quite like the sound of that program. My biggest problem is that I snack too often. I always seem to be in the fridge. It's all very well having only good stuff in the fridge, but if you eat too much of it, it is not good for you.
I have a long list of things to do today, so should get on with them. The weeds are ferocious but I can only garden early morning or late afternoon. Too hot otherwise. We're moving into Thunderstorm period now. The humidity is climbing and we are getting a little rain (which is good but isn't breaking the long drought we are having).
See you all later.
09-29-2006, 09:00 PM
Nita--my DSIL had severe high bp, and meds did not help. She drank pomegranate juice (I think you have to mix it with soda water or something to make it drinkable.) Then after it came down she just makes sure she drinks llots of water.
09-29-2006, 09:08 PM
I have been thinking I just can't get motivated to try the same old thing again--though my company offers $10 off WW.
Last fall, my church said they were going to offer a group with a Christian approach to weight control--I thought it was "Jesus first," but I can't find it searching.
Someone said they had friends who'd done it--was it you, Hal?
Anyway, I wondered if anyone remembered, or knew more about it. If not, I'll try on general diets or some other area.
09-29-2006, 10:21 PM
Hello Ladies -
Had my weigh in this morning and I lost 1.6 lbs this week. Bringing my total to 4 lbs. The even better news is that I lost at least 1 inch in my bust, waist, arms, hips. The total was like 4....inches. Can't quite remember the exact number. Next week i'm going to focus on my food more. If i can lose 4 lbs for the next 3 months that 16 lbs gone by Christmas. Ok. I just need to take it 1 day at a time. But I am pumped up now..
Cat - It wasn't me who mentioned the faith based diet, but I know there is one out there called Weigh Down. I have seen the books at Walmart. How is it going with the pedometer? Are you rembering to wear it?
Shad - glad you made it back home safely. I have to keep rembering you are across the world when you mentioned the heat. It's finally starting to cool down here, we too are in a drought. Hope you were able to get your gardening done.
Oh, forgot to tell you, I'm having a sonogram done on monday morning for my stomach problem. They be looking at my gallbladder.
09-30-2006, 03:00 PM
Hooray on the wt--and esp the the inches, Patty. And good luck with the sonogram. Even if you do need gallbladder surgery, they do it with a tiny incision now, and you can get better really quickly. (My surgeon warned me that it is still major surgery, and even though there's only a tiny scar and many people feel OK afterwards, you have to take it easy). But compared to other surgeries, it wasn't bad at all. Still, hope you have something they can treat medically. Does eating low-fat help you, or doesn't it make a difference?
There are several faith-based diets, but honestly some of them are pretty hokey. Kind of like using God as another wt-watching tool. But this one seemed different.
There is a program called Walktober, and I thought I would practice with the pedometer until tomorrow, so I'd get used to it. Also, I think I will get another one. They aren't (at least the ones I've found) shock proof, so if you drop them--easy to do in the bathroom--they may break. With a spare, then I wouldn't have my program interrupted.
Best to all . . .
10-01-2006, 12:45 PM
It's a beautiful sunny day here in central Kentucky. Finally! We have had so much rain the last few weeks. I think we are 5 to 7 inches over the average amount of rainfall for our area. Everything is still so green, and the leaves are all still on the trees. Word out is all the rain will give us a beautiful fall, I cannot wait!
More good news. I did not weigh in 2 Saturday's ago due to flooding. I was nervous all week and being really faithful to the points program. OK, I lost another 4.6 pounds over the last 2 weeks. In 20 years I've never lost consistently with WW like this. I think it is the ETools. It makes it so easy to track your points. When you go over, it automatically logs your bonus points for you, plus there are ideas all over the place there to keep you inspired. I am ever so thankful to be in control. This makes 12 pounds total. I am losing slowly, but I think that is best for long term success.
More news. You may remember I spoke some about an old friend that I use to spend lots of time with from Atlanta. We went to lots of concerts, but that stopped when I did not fit into a seat at a Bruce Springsteen concert. It will remain one of my most humilating experiences ever. It did not, however, motivate me to do anything about 'my big butt'. :^: Well, it has been 5, I repeat 5 years since I've seen this guy. He ask about 6 weeks ago if he could stop by during a road trip, and I said yes. I was in all honesty thinking I had 6 weeks to change my mind. I've gained even more weight since I saw him. So, he came by, we had a very nice time together, and he left. He went on to the beach the next week and sent a nice postcard saying how much he enjoyed 'hanging out'. Who knows, I've stopped trying to figure men out, long ago. He's a news director for CNN and is really informed and a person you can talk to for hours without noticing, on the positive side of things. :blah:  LOL...
My friend that weighs in at WW with me has lost 44 pounds as of yesterday. He started a week earlier than I did. Why do men lose weight so much easier than we do? He teaches at my school, and actually having a weight loss buddy is very helpful. We don't talk so much about it, but just keep each other honest. Every week I lose 2 pounds, he loses 4. :p
My sister had a scary stroke 2 weeks ago. She had immediate paralysis on her right side. The hopsital gave her the option of returning home after ONE day, and she jumped. Mind you, she cannot walk, dress her self, or do most things. She just wanted to go home, because she could not 'smoke cigarettes' in the hospital. I think it scared her, but not enough to be compliant about her diabetes needs such as eating properly or thinking about her 2 pack of cigs a day habit. I'll be spending time with her the week after next during my fall break. I really need a beach myself, and honestly dread the thought of cleaning, cooking and shopping for her again. The last time I spent time there, I did that. I'm tried now, but know I need to help where I can. My brothers have placed her on 'ignore'. If you knew the whole story - and there is one - it would make more sense. She has my nephews (Her daughter that passed a year ago February left these beautiful boys behind.). They are with another nephew now. Who knows what will happen there. The doctors gave her a prognosis of full eventual recovery. We shall see.
Someone ask about the faith based weight loss diet plan. I think it was one someone mentioned here, First Choice? It was in a church, the ladies paid some money, use the exercise equipment/room in the church (which over a period of time was upgraded to rival a very nice health club) and followed a weight loss plan together. I am sure they still meet. I had friends go for a year so so, and enjoyed it. The only problem was with our schedule it was hard for teachers to get there on time for the meetings. (That is why I drive to Lexington for Saturday morning weigh ins now - much better timeline.)
OneDay: :flow1: :bravo: :flow1: I am so proud of you! I need your exercise motivation. Way to go on the loss - they go hand in hand, huh. I hope your medical tests turn out OK for you, and you do not require surgery. Let us know how you are doing.
Cat: WW is promoting a new walking program with a pretty nice peodometer. Good idea on keeping an extra one around. When I lost 100+ pounds 15 years ago, I had no loose skin, no nothing. I think walking miles a day did it for me. The more I walked, the more I needed to do it. I loved how it made me feel. My last Yorkie lived to be a few months short of 18 years old. I always thought I gave him a good, strong heart with all of that walking for all those years. :running: I see you ask about the faith based diet, you know I have great faith, most especially with the events of the last few years. It goes a long, long way.
SHAD: Good to have you home again girl! So, do tell, how is the cat? LOL What's the word there on the Kidman/Urban marriage? I remember not so long ago we were chatting up the 'rumor'. Funny, huh?
MOOZ: I take a daily multivitamin for the over 50 crowd that says it helps with heart health and blood pressure. I almost picked up a vitamin to encourage weight loss, but opted for the BP since it is so important. I've never had a problem with it until my niece passed. I can't seem to get over that stress, and it causes problems with my BP. I know I have to let it go, and the sooner, the better. I bet you are happy to have Sinead home. Did she get her job? Hey, remember... word out Hal is coming back your way next Spring! Something to look forward to. ;) :sunny: What's up in the art scene for you? Thanks so much for the very much missed Marsten!
THIN: Car 54 where art thou? :comp: It's good to have you back. I made a really nice dinner salad last evening with both orange and red peppers. LOVE those things!!! I guess you are in transition mode getting ready to head west about now?
Nita: There is something to having a low calorie (under 200) snack every 2 to 3 hours for metabolic health. I have lots of weight to lose also, and realize this is really helpful to keep low cal snacks close. WW calls it living in the lavender - never allowing yourself to get too hungry - or too full.
10-01-2006, 10:25 PM
Hal--WTG on the loss. It must be frustrating about your friend, but remember you're not competing.
Hey, I got two poems accepted for a magazine called Sensations. They've published some of my stuff before, and they do it VERY nicely. He said it was very hard to judge the poems, so I feel pretty good.
Incidentally, anyone can do the Walktober--it's 2006walktober.com. You don't have to use a pedometer, you can do it by time. We get some special deal because it's a benefit from work, but you might want to look at it.
Oh--thanks Hal, I think I did find the Christian program. I think I'll get the book and look it over. If it looks as good as it sounds in summary, I know my pastor would back it. (He's a former football coach and very into healthful living).
And I need to get to bed. Night, all.
10-03-2006, 09:17 PM
Hal, thanks for giving me the incentive to rejoin WW. The State is starting a new 10-week session in two weeks. I always try all the other programs and end up going back to the one that really works!
The therapist has gotten Gene another six sessions. His BP finally was normal this evening. It's been one week since he went off that big dose of high blood pressure medicine. I am sure it still is not out of his body. He even seems more balanced in his walking. Maybe one day he will walk with the cane.
I am sending back the STAX system because I truly believe it is for people on the go and people who work five days a week. The moderator was really nice when I asked where I could return it.
I am really excited about the chair yoga class. It's amazing how many new things you can learn even if you are 71 years old. I understand our medical insurance sent these instructors for classes in order to teach these new classes. The thing Joe stresses most is the importance of breathing properly. He said our breath can heal all parts of our body if we do it properly. Have any of you done any yoga?
Well I am going to close for now and get ready to watch Dancing with the Stars! It is really getting exciting. I voted for Mario last week and will do it again this week.
Take care all and have a "super" week!~!!
10-03-2006, 10:32 PM
Hello Ladies -
Had my sonogram done on monday morning and got my results. NO STONES or anything they could see. Now comes the decision, do I pursue this or let it go. It hasn't bother me as much the last few days, I'm sure it's because i'm eating healthy.
Hal - WTG on your 4.6 weight loss:carrot: YOU GO GIRL! I so excited about your friend too. Maybe he'll drop by again soon?
Cat - Congrats on getting 2 poems published. You are so talented.
Nita - MARIO! no, no.. You need to vote for Emmett! Oh, I know what you mean Mario is so cute. I'm glad the chair yoga class is working out for you. My mother who is 75 attends line dancing 2x a week. She's been doing that for about 6 or 7 years and she in much better shape than me. Glad to hear Gene has gotten 6 more sessions.
Thin, Mooz, & Shad - Hope to hear from you all soon!
As for me it's about bedtime, I have a long day tomorrow.
10-03-2006, 10:57 PM
I've done yoga for years. I love it. My knees used to be so stiff I could hardly go down stairs, and, while they're not perfect, I can do anything I want. Yes, breating is so important.
10-04-2006, 01:20 AM
News - of sorts.
I have a new job! It will be in Townsville and will be for around six months. Following which I will make my long awaited trip to Canada and the States. Now I can start planning it. The company is looking into a rental property which will take a cat - so Miss Puss can start racking up some more frequent flyer points.
Now that gives me 5 weeks to organise, cook for, have, get over this party and go to the tropics for another dose of the heat. Interesting interview technique has my friend Zenny. Chit chat about the land she has bought in Tasmania, chat about the job her husband has got, chat about the people we know, chat about the people I know in Townsville and who Zen is getting to know and when can I start? Not a long interview and very pleasant. Wish they were all like that.
Nita - I put my flexibility down to the Body Balance class I do every Saturday. It consists of Yoga, Tai Chi and Pilates. I swear by it.
Hal - Great news on the further weight loss. Hope you get to hear from the friend again. Good friends are hard to find.
Cat - Congratulations on having those poems published. Good news.
Oneday - congratulations on your weight loss too. You are all doing well on this thread. Long may it last.
Gotta go and post some snail mail.
10-06-2006, 11:02 PM
Quick check in. Doing well with the walking, and DH back to work today!''
My Shad you seem to live such an adventurous life.
Tomorrow telling stories at Old Missouri Town. Since DH not working, he agreed to come with me. Looking forward to it.
10-07-2006, 11:01 PM
Don't know if i'll ever get use to working out, but I do know I'm feeling much better and not as stressed. This morning I even got up and went to the gym and workout on the recumbent bike for 20 minutes and the treadmill for 20 minutes. Tomorrow i'm going to start on my healthy eating program. We get 1 cheat day a week to eat whatever we want that day. Maybe tomorrow will be my cheat day. :)
Shad - Great news on the job. And that great you get to take Miss Puss with you. Remember as you plan your trip, you have a friend down here in Texas!
Cat - have you started wearing your pedometer? I was cleaning house today and clean across mine, think i'll start wearing it.
Hal, Nita, Mooz and Thin - Hope to hear from you all soon!
10-08-2006, 10:46 PM
1day--yes, I have been wearing my pedometer, and it does seem to motivate me. It doesn't work with some clothes, though--so today I had to estimate. I was glad I gave myself a few days to get used to it before "officially" recording the steps. Even on the clothes it works on, you have to be sure that it's stuck down firmly, and not tilted.
10-09-2006, 06:39 PM
Hello Ladies -
Cat - I know what you mean, the one I have keeps falling from my pants if I bend over. It's a pretty cheap one.
10-10-2006, 09:13 PM
Dashing in between household jobs. Not much new here. I don't start my new job until November so I have a couple of weeks break - which I intend to make the most of.
Had a bit of overnight rain here. It's freshened up the garden a bit but gone noway near breaking the drought. Still a little is better than none I guess.
Done my 5 days at the gym for the week. That's a little over 5.1/2 hours of exercise. I need the two days rest - the body is not always as resilient as it used to be. It's not good at losing weight either. No matter how much I try, the scale remains obstinately the same.
Speaking of scales, today I went out and bought a new scale. It has bmi, hydration, weight etc.etc.etc. Now I just have to work out how it works.
Hope the stories went okay Cat.
1day - exercise sure does help the stress in your life. I spend the time on the treadmill, elliptical or bike planning out my day or week as the case may be. Keep going. It still takes time to get the weight off even with lots of exercise.
Hey Mooz - must be time for another check in here surely. I thought you were going to make yourself accountable on here!!!!
Gotta go sand and paint some more walls. Life's never dull around here.

Shad - I lost 4 lbs the first 3 weeks and last week I didn't lose anything. I'm noticing my clothes starting to fit better. I have a long way to go. I'm moving and stretching my body in ways that it hasn't been stretched in a long time. The one thing I do know for sure is my chiropractor has noticed a difference in my adjustments. She says i'm holding them longer, which is good, means the core is getting stronger. Hope you get some more rain showers.

Bringing us to the top!

Lost my pedometer, then found. So that was a glitch. Today only 2,700 steps. I thought more. Hard to walk in the morning before work. And supposed to freeze tonight ugh.
Yes, had fun with the stories, and DH came with me to the festival, which was nice.

Sorry i've been away....as you mentioned HALGAL, I am in the middle of transition to AZ..
And i did not make and stick to any plan yet. Still don't feel the 'determined to do it!' and stick to it feeling. I had it years back when i got on WW and lost it. Maybe i will check if there are any good WW meetings in AZ...or LA Wt.Loss like my MIL does, but i know that is very pricey. I can get the info from her and buy bars(protein) from her I suppose. Or just find a substitue bar that would fill the need. I guess she is required to eat 2 of them per day cause you don't get to eat much meat per meal, esp red meat, that is kept to once a week or less i think.
Glad you guys are staying strong and keep up all the good work. Got to go now and finish cooking DH and my supper. We have grouse up here and it's bird season so i am trying a new recipe with them.
OH and we got snowed on already! But i think it will melt by Sat or Sun. And we are lucky it's only 2 inches of it here, some places got 8 to 10 inches.
All for now,

I did pop in yesterday morning but decided to post later in the day. With all the stuff that went down, later in the day became never.
Spent the day doing a spring clean of the house. My old table had gone to DS2's place along with the 4 remaining chairs. I am now using the even older pine table given to me by my friends out in the bush when they replaced their table. It was meant to be for outside but when I put it and a couple of chairs out there, the sun did the maximum amount of damage in minimum time - that's why I had to spend time last week taking the chairs to pieces and fixing, gluing, clamping etc .
I am trying to get rid of some of my accummulated stuff. I really don't know why I have so much in this little house.
I have a new scale. It has a whole raft of features - most of which I will not use. Some of those bells and whistles are fairly useless. I don't like the numbers that this one gives me, but it is only a guide. At least I can now see things moving either up or down - it goes down in increments of 100 grams whereas the old one only went down in 500grams. The body fat thing is a bit of a stranger but at least - or should that be at last - I am not obese (in the scales opinion) anymore - just over fat! And I am beginning to wonder what I have to do to fix that. Just doesn't seem to want to go away.
Todays agenda is back to the gym and cardio. Then to paint the hall walls I have finished plastering and finish the washing. Then I really need to water the potplants before they all keel over. Better sort out what to do with them while I am away as well. And as always a few bills need paying.
And that is about it really.
Okay - coffee is done. Time to get dressed for gym. Time to start my day. Hope your are all enjoying your weekend.

Good Morning Ladies,
I know I have been absent for a while, but I do think of you ladies quite often. At the moment I am still having hamstring problems. Each morning when I get up it feels like my legs are breaking. However, after my shower and some stretches, and a whole lot of Ben Gay, the pain seems to go away. I also take an Advil with my vitamens.
Gene has not progressed very much and watches a lot of TV. However, his spirits seem better and he doesn't seem drugged as he was before. I definitely am going to join the WW group which starts a week from Thursday. However, I have to agree with Thin, I am not really sure I am ready. I do believe my legs will feel much better if I lose some of this excess weight.
I am still bowling 3 to 4 times a week and it really does relieve a lot of my built-up stress. I am still checking out to find a private home that takes people in for a couple of weeks so I can go see my children. It's been almost two years since I have been back to Ohio and PA.
Well I had better get moving so I can make some phone calls. Take care each and every one of you!
10-18-2006, 06:01 AM
Mornin chicks .... just a quick call. I had no computer for about a week ..... some virus ..... and probably more than one!!
I have been feeling down for the past couple of days .... don't have a reason to though :dizzy: ..... then yesterday I was talking to a friend who seemed to have lots more trouble in her life than I have! Later on, when I was down the street, I met a girl I used to work with and she told me she had just found out she had got breast cancer and is going into hospital to have a breast removed! After I left her I thought to myself that there was someone with something to really worry about!
Anyway the last time I went to the nurse my BP was down a bit even though I could feel myself getting tense when she put that thing on my arm :(
I have to get my cholesterol checked again in Nov.
I have cut out all the rubbish foods and I am trying to walk more. I have just come in from a 2 mile walk and I must admit I do feel better after doing that. :carrot:
Gotta go now .... have a good day all
Now more than ever
Think of all the things you've learned in your life. And just imagine how very much more there is that you can now learn based upon what you already know.
Consider how your own unique perspective has grown, matured and become more valuable over the years. Imagine all the possibilities that are even now opening up to you because of how far you've already come.
It's impossible to know exactly what will happen tomorrow, or next month, or five years from now. Yet you most certainly are better prepared than ever to successfully handle whatever surprises life sends your way.
Now, more effectively than ever before, you can transform problems into opportunities. Now, with more purpose and more experience than ever before, you can work to bring richness and value to life.
When you face a challenge that seems impossible to overcome, remember this. The world is filled with things that once were considered impossible and which are now commonplace.
When you woke up this morning, you broke through to a new level of performance, of knowledge, of effectiveness. Now, more than ever, you have what it takes to move successfully and meaningfully through each moment.
-- Ralph Marston

Thin - Good to hear from you, I'm sure your pretty busy getting the place ready for winter and packing for your winter trip. I"m sure it's hard to stick to a plan with lots to do. Just try and make better choices until you get settled. Give us a shout once you get to AZ.
Shad - You are such a busy lady. Gym, cardio, painting, cleaning, washing all in one day, :dizzy: I'm thinking of getting one of those new scales too. I always heard the body fat count is not very accurate. I guess anything would be better than the one I have. If I don't like the number, I just stomp on it and it's moves.
Nita - Sorry to hear your having hamstring problems. Are you still doing the chair yoga? I'm sure the stretching would help. I'm surprised the bowling doesn't help. WE'll you take care of yourself.
Mooz - When you hear of someone else's problems and especially something like breast cancer, it puts things in perspective. Sorry to hear your feeling blue, but keep on walking the fresh air and sunshine will do you good.
As for me, still working out MWF at 5:00am. I have come to the realization that I need to start going to bed earlier. I intend to be in bed by 9:30, but I don't turn out the lights until 10:30 to 11:00am. I'm doing good on exercise, but not that great on food. I haven't eaten fast food, but my lunch and dinner are not great. To many carbs. And besides, all the halloween candy it really bad. I eat it everyday, thinking, oh, I worked out, it's ok. I'm thinking of doing the South Beach, maybe I can get rid of the sugar cravings.
Hal & Cat - Hope to hear from you all.
10-18-2006, 11:21 PM
Mooz--of course there is always someone worse off than we are, but you have to give yourself time to grieve. Grief really is work, and we each have to work it out for ourselves.
Patty--I'm in awe of your early-rising work out.
I've been using my pedometer, and aiming for over 3,000 steps a day. This is not nearly what the experts recommend, but it's an improvement for me, so I'm trying to feel good about it, and maybe increase later.
The PT is having DH do all kinds of strange things like jump down from a step. (The goal is to land on both feet at once. As with most CPs, his left side is stronger.) The therapist says she will have him running again, which is hard to imagine. She also says that he compensates very well--but compensating doesn't solve the underlying problem. And over the last 60+years no one thought he could solve the underlying problems.
Heck, when he was born the dr told his mother to put him in an institution, that he would never be anything but a vegetable, so that's what they though of rehab then.
Nita--I certainly wish Gene had someone as wonderful and dedicated a Marisa to work with him--but I think there are not many like her.

Need prayer request:
My mom was admitted to hospital this evening. She has Strep...Penumonia. And a infection has set in her wrist. Please keep her in your prayers.
10-22-2006, 12:10 AM
Just a quick update.
Mom is still in hospital, expected to be there several days. Having to give her antibotics by IV. Keep her in your prayers.
10-22-2006, 10:26 AM
Sending prayers your way. Stay strong and I hope your mom comes home soon.
10-22-2006, 09:34 PM
Good Evening All,
Well I did it, I went to WW last Thursday and weighed in and even stayed for the meeting. There was a lady that had lost 97 lbs. She has a ways to go but what frightened her most about her weight was the fact that she has MS and at any time could just fall and the thought of perhaps four people or more to help her kept her on the straight and narrow. The man next to me had lost 26 lbs. but I am not quite sure the length of time. The lady who lost all that weight share a website with us--www.kernelseasons.com. This is a site that sells popcorn seasonings. Of course, I had to order some. I will let you know if it worthwhile. There is even a chocolate marshmallow one.
Yes, I am still going to Chair Yoga and still bowling at least 4 times a week. My legs to feel a lot better since I am not taking Gene to appointments and now they are going to have a nurse come to the house once a month to change out the catheter which is a tube in his bladder.
The weather here is "wonderful" again and I am going to start working out in my garage!
Wishing everyone a great week!
p.s. 1-Day -- My prayers are with your mom and I hope she gets better quickly!
10-23-2006, 09:10 PM
Hello Ladies -
Mom's doing much better, in fact their thinking of releasing her tomorrow, problem is she'll have to get the IV at home. Insurance won't pay for nurse to come by and not sure if her or Dad will be able to do it.
Nita - WTG for taking that first step and rejoining WW. Wow having someone lose 97 lbs in that meeting is very inspiring. I'm glad to hear your legs aren't hurting your any more.
Need to run, going to get up tomorrow morning and workout at gym. Treadmill and epliptical bike. :yikes:
Thanks for all your prayers.
10-24-2006, 09:58 PM
Nita--glad about your legs & feeling better. Maybe the yoga helps with your legs, too? When I first started, my teacher had me do some chair leg exercises, but I don't know what you're doing.
1day--gosh, I don't think your mom or dad should be doing an IV. Too many things can go wrong. Maybe you can fight the insurance--convince them it's cheaper than her staying the in the hospital. Or your local Visiting Nurse may have some kind of sliding scale for services.
I got some information on the Christian weight loss program--gosh, it's $200 for the leader, and $100 for the participants. I know that's not really a lot compared to secular programs, but I can't imagine people spending that much at church.
10-25-2006, 08:25 PM
Hello Ladies -
Cat - That does seem like alot for a church sponsor. I will check into the visiting nurse, thanks .
Mom is doing better, got home today. She'll have to go up to hospital as outpatient and they'll giver her the IV.
I got a little discouraged this morning when I weighed in, only lost .5 of a pound for the month. My official weigh-in is monday. I weigh and get measured. I feel like I've lost inches, we'll see.
Hal, Mooz, Nita, Shad, & Thin - hope to hear from you all.
10-27-2006, 01:27 PM
Hope you're all having a good day!
10-28-2006, 06:51 PM
Good Saturday afternoon Movers and Losers!
I know it has been some time since my last post, time seems to get away. The good part, is there is nothing bad to report, no reason for the absence other than busy, busy, busy. The WW plan is good. This last month I've played basketball with 2 pounds, up and down, up and down. Last Saturday I promised myself I would move this body more, and lose as much as possible to break the cycle. I did. I lost 3.3 this week!!! Oh yeah. I've lost about 12pounds in 10 weeks. Honestly, for me, as you know, this is very good. I am on the right path, and now to stay on it. I love all of the foods and choices of foods I have - I just have to make sure I get all my fruits and veggies in. That seems to be key for me. I just went to update my avitar, and it is where it should be. Oh well, I am feeling success, and that is what is most important - the control factor.
I treated myself to a new featherbed and plan to put it on the bed this weekend. I am taking an old featherbed off of my bed and putting it on my guest bed. Cool for the holidays for friends and relatives that come in from out of town. Anyone else have one of these wonderful things? Add some high thread count sheets and a down comforter (don't have one of those yet) and it would have to be next to heaven. I could easily become a bedroom set snob. There are so many pretty bedroom sheet/quilt sets with accessories. Oh well...
CAT: You know I was going over the financial part of WW now, reminding myself not to go there because it is such an important part of my life. But, it is expensive. I'm on a monthly pass plan now that is $39.95 a month and includes ETools. It automatically comes out of your bank account monthly so there are no decisions to make each month - and this is good. For the Christian weight loss program, if you really take a close look at inflation across the board from long term high energy costs - I bet it is not as high as it appears. Thanks for keeping me exercise motivated. I have been walking every chance I can and I know this works. I bought Rocky a harness, but have yet to put it on him. I know if I start giving him a good walk each day he and I will each benefit. Now..:running: to do it. LOL
OneDay: How is your Mother doing? I hope she is getting stonger each day. Way to go on your exercise!!!!! Keep it up, because every inch or your body (and I believe soul) are loving it. I know it can be overwhelming to have close family members not feeling well. Don't forget to take really good care of yourself during these stressful time.
MOOZ: Hey girl, yes there is sadness all around us. I just found out my neighbor two doors down is losing her battle with cancer. She is in her 30's and is such a neat person. She found a bump on her leg, it turned out to be a tumor on her leg bone which was operated on to be removed. They found it had mastastized and spread across her body. So sad. Her car use to be gone for work before I took off down our road at 7A. Now it is dark and quiet as her car sits there. Her husband is wonderful, and she has a brother that comes in and goes from Virginia to stay with her. I consciously have to remind myself of the good things/happy times to keep from falling into a sad mood - it takes work after you have experienced grief as we both have. Hang in there good friend, you remain in my thougths and prayers!
Nita: I am happy to have a WW sister! Do you by chance have the ETools option? If not WW has a really nice website with many of the things found on ETools. Our leader is the best. I drive 45 minutes to Lexington, because she is worth it. Way to go on keeping up your Yoga and keeping moving. I am happy things have straighten out for care plans for Gene. Sending all good thoughts and wishes your way too!!! :yoga:
Shad: You are home now? How are you doing? Better yet, how are the adventures of kitty and Shad? LOL. I guess you have heard Keith Urban has now entered a rehab facility. I wonder if the marriage to Nichole will survive this? Life is tuff. I hope you are enjoyed your very much deserved time off.
THIN: Hey girl, so good to hear from you again. So, when will you be back iin Arizona, and what kind of digs will you have this year? It feels like Winter here now. Lets hear from you girl. :cofdate:
Well, I wish each of you a successful OP week. I'll do my very best to post more routinely. And, to lose weight more consistently!! Oh yeah. Holidays?
10-29-2006, 09:43 PM
Hello Ladies -
Hal - WTG on your 3.3 lb loss this week :carrot:. I know what you mean by getting the fruits and veggies in. I'm having a hard time with that. You know after the holidays this year they had the featherbeds on sale, I thought about getting one and when I went back they where gone. Now i'm talking a 75% sale. They also had the down comforters on sale too. I might look into them again after the holiday season.
Had a pretty lazy weekend. After church today went had some pasta, boy that really got me lazy. Didn't do much around the house except for laundry.
Hope to hear from you all this week.
10-29-2006, 10:20 PM
WTG on the weight loss. Even if it doesn't seem too dramatic, it's progress.
You're right about the weight loss. I'll try to see if can find who was interested before.
At least I got caught up entering my checks onto my computer. I need to get my calendar done.
10-30-2006, 04:17 AM
Aaaah missing in action again. Sorry ladies.
1Day - glad to hear your Mum is coming along okay. Hope that it is not too long before she can get shot of the iv. What's life coming to when a hospital sends home patients who should still be in care. It's not fair on the families to have to put in catheters, change dressings, or have to lift loved ones to clean or change them.
Hal and Nita - glad to hear that WW is going well for you. It is a good program and it does work.
Today has been another busy day. I've been painting again. Final coats going on the hall tomorrow and once that is done, I'm done until after the visitors leave. In case I haven't told you (I know I haven't been around in a while) I am organising a family reunion and a 50th birthday for my DB2. My sister is coming across from New Zealand and will arrive tomorrow. She's bringing her son and daughter and their partners as well. There should be about 30 of us at the do on Saturday night. About half will be family members or partners, wives, etc.
I've taken the Weber around to DS2's and played a game of bubbles and golf with the 2 year old hyperactive feral child. He calls me Simon's Mum. I guess no one has yet got around to telling him what to call me. I guess I will just have to do it myself.
The rellies arrive tomorrow. We will go in and get them and distribute them around the place as required. Then it will be go go to get the individuals to the requested places to do their tours, sightseeing, theme parks etc. There will be a trip down to the Gold Coast on Wednesday to get the nephew and wife sorted for the night. Hopefully the niece and partner will also go - they have a 7.15am tour on the Thursday morning. If I have to take them it will be a 5.30 rise and 6.00pm departure. Yum, yum just what one wants on holiday. Thursday I have to go to the dentist in the afternoon, so they may have to take a train back to a more central location and get picked up from there. Friday, some more people fly in but my DB1 is going to fetch them. Hallelujah.
I'd better ring DB2 and see what is going on in his neck of the woods as well.
And that's about it. I'm stuffed. I'm going to an early bed. See ya.

Hello Ladies -
What a week! Very busy at work and to top it off I had a sinsus infection and didn't even know I had one. Friday night started running fever and went to the doc on saturday. She sent me home with 4 prescriptions. I think I have been overdoing it at work. NO more of that. I will have to take a few days off from exercise, and I told myself as soon as I"m up to it i'm back at it.
Shad - Sounds like your having a very busy weekend. Hope everything goes as plan.
Hope everyone is having a good weekend.
11-06-2006, 12:25 PM
Just a quick check in to let you know what is up with me. Someone asked about my digs in AZ...it is a park model trailer. They are only 8 X 40 but this one has a slide all the way down the side so all the rooms are about 2foot bigger. The last one we were in only had the slide in LR and BR. We are still in the same older park, has a pool and hot tub but that is about it. Hey, it works for us. Cheap is the way we have to live.
Glad to hear of all the losses on WW. It is a great program no doubt on that.
I plan to start walking when i get to AZ and hopefully DH will do the same so we can get each other going if one doesn't feel like it. He sees his doc today so i'm sure he will get motivated after that. He hasn't gained all the weight like i have, but I know he does want to get back into our walks and get healthier that way. We pretty much still eat healthy, but we always do better in AZ, cause you can buy all that fruit and produce VERY REASONABLY~~love those farmers markets. I don't know when the last time i ate fresh fruit. We just don't get much of that up here that is worth paying the high prices for. Apples would be about it, and they are not cheap anymore. Tomatoes sure have been pricey here....but i did get grape tomats for about 1.50 per pint. I love those things. We aren't lacking in our veggies. I just made a wonderful stir fry with fresh mushrooms, zuke, broccoli, pepper (only green tho! Red is too costly) and bean sprouts.
Well, This site is very hard to navigater with dial up, but hopefully it won't be that way when we get the DSL set up in our trailer in AZ. Talk more later,
stay strong :carrot:
11-08-2006, 11:24 PM
Hello Ladies -
We'll I thought I was on my way to feeling better but I was wrong. The antibotics the doc gave me were way to strong for my stomach, which cause major stomach problems. Went to my regular doctor and he took me off all the meds the first doc put me on. Stomach is finally feeling better.
Thin - Good to hear from you. If you were here in Texas you'd never even think it was November. High was mid 70's. The fruits and veggies are pretty reasonable here. Just wished I eat more of them. So when do you all head out to AZ?
OOps forgot to mention, as October's weigh-in I gained 1 lb, BUT lost 2.5 inches.
11-09-2006, 10:29 PM
Bringing us to the top!
11-12-2006, 10:07 PM
Hello Ladies -
Guess everyone was busy this weekend. I went into the office both saturday and sunday. We're moving offices next week and I had to get my office packed.
Hope to hear from someone soon.....
11-14-2006, 03:19 AM
Mornin chickies .... time for me to check in again I think .... I really must try and do it more often. The last time I got my blood pressure checked it was down a bit even though I panic when that machine is strapped to my arm :?: .... The good news was that on the nurses scales I was down 6 pounds :carrot: ..... so cutting out all the rubbish foods really does work. I am feeling so much better for it too. I weigh 158 on my own scales in the morning usually which is good for me. My clothes are getting looser on me too. I will have to be careful over the time leading up to and over Christmas though but all in all things are looking up. I can take a cup of tea now without eating biscuits or cake .... WOO HOO!!
Paul is in China at the moment having a great time ..... he gets home next weekend
Sinead is working in the Health Centre down the street which is so handy for her. I hope she gets a permanent job there later on.
Orla is home from Scandenavia and back at University.
Brian is working every day and I still have my 2 hour per day job which seems to keep me busy somehow!!:?:
Gotta go now and get dressed and get for a walk before work
Have a great day all
11-18-2006, 06:23 PM
I know it's been quite some time since I have posted. I apologize for that. Going to therapy three times a week sure does take a lot of time. They keep me there usually 1-1/2 hours, however, I do believe it is working! I only have occasional cramping in my legs. I am also going to WW and have lost an average of 1 lb. per for the last 4 weeks.
I am still bowling 4 times a week and also working one day a week and also doing some work for the attorneys at home. The internet sure is a great invention.
Hope you all are doing well.
11-19-2006, 08:55 PM
Hello Ladies -
Where did this week go? I hadn't posted since last weekend. Last week I fell down and hurt my right hand, it was mainly my thumb and palm. I never realized how much we use our thumb. It took me longer to get ready for work, to open up things. I only worked out one day this week, my trainer was out sick 2 days which for me turned out good. It was a very hetic week. Tomorrow it's back to my morning workouts. House is a mess, need to get ready for thanksgiving day. I think i'm having it at my house, unless my sister decides to have it.
Mooz - Glad to hear your blood pressure was down when you took it, AND WTG on your 6 lb loss. Sounds like the kids are really traveling. Will they all be home for the Christmas Holidays?
Nita - I"m glad the physical theraphy is helping with your leg cramps. WTG on your 4 lb loss. How is Gene doing?
11-20-2006, 12:17 PM
Sorry it's been awhile for me to be posting on here, but getting into this site has been a bear! With my slow internet dial up, it just takes 4 ever to load and sometimes just freezes up. (can't wait for the dsl again in AZ)
And my doc appt found that i've been getting a spike in my bp. Added ANOTHER pill, but after 3 days it does seem to really be helping. I was even getting headaches and finally no more of them. Felt soooo crappy also, just did not know why, so it was a good thing my appt just ended up being at that time(yearly pap) Well, i get it checked again in 1 wk and hope that is the end of it. DH has several more doc appts to squeeze in b4 we leave too, so this is going to be one hectic time.
I did get my new walking sneaks so i plan to get right on that in AZ. As long as i feel good, i want to start feeling even better and drop some of this wt. It's horrible to find the clothes you have are all tight or too small.
Well, congrats to Mooz for getting her bp down! YGG. Keep up the good work. Do you find that caffeine does anything to it? I'm not sure but i don't feel the coffee i drink really affects it, and so far the doc did not bring it up.
Way to go on losing the 6# ! :woo:
Congrats to NITA on your wt. loss and exercise....ygg!!!:carrot:
1DAY~~ wow, now you get to do Thanksgiving at your house...Yes, it is suprising how much we do need our thumb. Hope it is better soon and that you get lots of help from family w/the meal on Thurs.
Everyone have a great Thanksgiving...:thanks2: :thanks1:
I know i will be thankful to be healthy! And still on the planet
To all the other chicks...try to post if you can. I will still check back in b4 leaving in Dec.
11-20-2006, 08:37 PM
Guess I've been remiss like others.
I did talk to the person in charge at the Church about doing the First Place, so I think that will go.
Bought You on a Diet--has anyone read this?
I have more poems if anyone would like to PM me.
WTG those who are exercising and keeping the BP down. Hoorayk!
11-21-2006, 12:31 AM
Sorry to be so remiss in posting. I was sure I had told you that I was going to be away from the 'net for a period of time since I was driving to Townsville and setting up for the next six months up here. Kitty didn't come with me in the end. She is with the DS2 and is apparently settling in okay - well sort of.
So I am back at work in Townsville. I now have the net on so I can post again. It is good to see people posting here again.
No weight off for me this month. Everything is about the same. Nothing seems to work too well anymore (as far as dieting goes) I'm trying to exercise regularly in the mornings - it gets too hot if I don't do it then and I have no inclination to do it at night time. I'm looking into gyms at the moment. I need to go back to one I think.
Hope everything is going well for you all.

Hello Ladies -
Thin - Glad the new pill is helping with your blood pressure. I'm sure with the headaches and feeling yuckie, who wants to think about exercising. Like you said once you get to feeling better, you have those new sneakers to break in.
Cat - I just bought the book. I really like reading how our bodies work. Let us know how the First place goes.
Shad - good to hear from you. I didn't remember reading about you being out of town, but I figured that's where you were. I have 2 weeks before my next weigh in and i'm going to start my eating healthy after this weekend.
It's going on three months for me with this exercise program and last month I gained 1 lb but lost some inches. I know I have got to start eating healthy. Sugar will be the hardest for me to quite, but I know I can do it. This week I exercised 3 straight days with the thought of Thanksgiving coming up. Luckily for me we're dining out, so I know I won't eat as much as if I were eating at home.
Wishing everyone a Safe and Happy Thanksgiving.
I'm so thankful for what God has given me, my family, health, friends. I'm thankful for this site and for you all in being in my life, you give me the support and encouragement that I need.

Happy Birthday. Hope you have a wonderful day and that you get everything you wish for.

Gosh, I have been away. However, I felt I did pretty well for Thanksgiving. I feel bad it seems Thanksgiving is so swallowed up in Christmas.
Mooz, do you have Harvest Home, or is that English only?
11-26-2006, 05:01 PM
Patty~~ Happy Birthday!!! :hb:

Good Evening from Phoenix, AZ
I, too, have been absent from posting. Time sure does fly even when you are not always having fun. Since we have no family here I just fixed two steaks on the grill. However, the next day I felt guilty and brought home a turkey breast that Safeway had prepared, some mashed potatoes and cornbread dressing. Gene really did enjoy our Friday meal. Gene is still housebound but his blood pressure is doing much better. The low number finally got to 67 today. It had been anywhere from 45 to 55 just a few weeks ago.
I lost a whole 1/4 lb. this week but the WW Leader said it was awesome to lose anything around Thanksgiving. I am still in the process of finding someone to watch over Gene so I can visit my children back in Ohio and PA. It's almost 2 years since I have seen them. Sometimes I get rather depressed and wonder if I will ever get a chance to see them again!
Well tomorrow it is back to the basics, therapy, chair yoga and healthy eating! Mooz -- a special CONGRATS on losing 6 lbs. That is really terrific. And I do agree with you we just need to give up some of those goodies we think our bodies need. We finally have some large oranges on our tree and I make an effort to eat at least one a day! They taste so much better than the ones from the grocery store.
I am going to try and post more often because I do believe it gets me going to make better choices knowing you guys are doing the same1
I am only going to try this one more time. It seems they will not let me post because they say I haven't signed in but I have. Luckily I saved my first message!!!
11-27-2006, 07:19 AM
Good Morning Ladies,
Just got back from my morning workout. She weighed me in early for this month, I was very hesistant on weighing in after thanksgiving weekend, BUT I did and lost 2.5 lbs this month. I also lost about 2 more inches. I was not able to write everything down as she had someone else waiting to get weighed.
Thank you for the birthday wishes. Saturday night the whole family got together and celebrated and yesterday was busy running around. I'm actually taking today off and going to get a massage and hopefully clean out a closet or two.
11-27-2006, 09:34 AM
Hi Chicksters~~ Well, now i am off the new bp pill, cause it was having too many side effects...not much else new here, still in a frenzy of course trying to get ready for the trip.
I am very interested in that book CAT mentioned...by Dr. Oz. I saw a place on Amazon to print out a shopping list of foods to go along w/the book when released...I think i'll buy it at Costco when we get to AZ. It sounds like something that is very healthy and should work. I want to get healthier for sure. Are you going to try it also CAT?? Let me know. OH, and i sent you a PM on this.
Glad you had a good b.d. 1DAY~~ and lost the inches and some wt. too:carrot: YGG~~Keep up the good work.
Got to go for now, i will check in again tho';)

Kickin us up to the top
11-30-2006, 12:57 PM
The cold front came in today and burrr.... It's cold. The high is around 30 degree. Last night we had rain, but the temperature weren't below freezing. Don't know what gonna happen tonight or tomorrow morning. Did anyone see Dr. Oz on Oprah yesterday? Had some interesting things to say.
Thin - Sorry to had to get off the new BP pills. Did they give you something else to try? I'm sure having to get packed and not feeling to good isn't a good thing. Take care.
Hope everyone is having a great day!
11-30-2006, 09:08 PM
OOh--cold here, too. Not good for exercising
12-01-2006, 03:50 PM
Quick report in. No weight loss this month, but no gains either. I guess that is something.
It's really hot here - temps constantly in the 30-35C range (90-105F) and it is always hard to exercise in that.
The country is in the grip of severe drought and we are having awful bushfires across Australia.
Thought I would attach a photo of the Family Reunion I spoke about last month or was it the month before - time does go so fast these days. That's me in the red. My DS1 and DS2 are on either end of the back row. DS2 on the left and DS1 on the right. We had a great night.
Better go, I have to do my Christmas shopping today, and write the Christmas Letter and get some cards away. I'll be back.
12-03-2006, 01:33 PM
Good Afternoon Ladies -
Shad - What a great family photo. Your sons are cute. How old are they? They look very young. We too are in a drought here and with winter coming I tend to forget to water. We're still on a water ration so I can only water on mondays.
Believe it or not, I went and worked out yesteday morning and again today. I really feel good after my workouts. Now I really need to start focusing on the food that I eat. With the holidays coming and all the extra food that is around at work, I need to journal to remind myself of what all I have eaten.
Hope everyone is doing ok. Hope to hear from you all.
12-04-2006, 10:28 PM
Things are going pretty good here, looks like a very early start on Wed. is going to happen. I finally got the last of my results from Doc and things are good on alot of the fronts...she never can believe my Cholesterol results, and this year was no different. My total is chol. is only 144 . I always tell her that i have to have something that is good with my other problems. The mammo results were actually back too, and they were fine, so i can at least leave on the trip w/o worrying about that! We still havent' figured out the bp problem, but i guess I will have to consult w/someone else on that next year...maybe some sort of specialist.
1DAY~~ we should make a commitent to journal again. I do want to do something like the DR. Oz plan...all 'real foods' and less salt and processed stuff....and of course add the walking. I will have to start in small steps and watch the bp and pulse of course, so this is going to be slow on that side. But i really want to try to get the bp down on my own. After all most pills don't seem to be doing a very good job for me!
Great job on losing inches girl! Keep this up!
Shad~~ i agree, your sons are most handsome and youthful looking. let us know the ages. by the way,you look great in red! That is a good color to wear.
Well, got to run now, i will still be checking in and am going to commit once i'm in AZ, to a much healthier lifestyle.
Bye for now~~
12-05-2006, 01:48 AM
My sons are 30 and 32 - soon to be 31 and 33. Gosh that makes me feel old. Thank you for the compliments. Much appreciated.
I'm back in Townsville until Christmas. Going home on the 24th and back here again on the 5th - the day after DS2's birthday.
Lizzie - I have a friend in Chino Valley in Arizona. Lovely place. I will be going to see her again next time I go to the States (hopefully next May).
Aaah well, no weight loss to report this month. Not much in the inch loss department either. This is so hard.
Better go because it is almost time to go home for the evening. I've got a bit of work to finish before I go.
Look after yourselves. I'll be back later
12-07-2006, 07:53 PM
Hello Ladies -
Thin - I guess your on the road right now, will say a prayer that you have a safe journey. Once you get settled give us a shout and YES I will committ with you on the journaling. You know I"m still in the baby step stage, I'm doing great on the exercise but not as good on the water or food. I know eventually it will all come together, but for now, baby steps.
Shad - Wow, can't believe your sons are in their 30's, they look much younger. I know this is so hard & frustrating not losing the weight or inches, but keep in mind, your heart, bones, muscles are all benefiting from this. WE'll that's what I keep telling myself too.
Cat, Mooz, Nita & Hal - Hope to hear from you all.
12-08-2006, 12:26 PM
Hey there chicks~~
We are in the lovely state of Colorado now. Staying w/DH's sister N of Denver. They just had that storm, so they have these small (melting now) snowbanks left to show that it was here. Supposed to be near 50 degrees now tho. Trip was snowy and a little tense for most of our first day, but we slowed down and did fine. But everywhere is colder than usual. It was like 15 below zero in Ames Iowa (with the wind chill factor) yesterday morn....a little better this morn. in Nebraska/CO area. Still cold tho...like 20 ? I think.
I have to do a few things like call my phone co. back home and have that #shut off and cancel the cell phone once we are in AZ. I guess i'm finally giving up on that cell business. they have gotten packages that are very decent with your regular phone service now(for long distance we can talk unlimited ,any day,and for the whole month it will only be 20 bucks!)
And we seem to always have to get a hard phone line whereever we go. Then the DSL can be ordered. At least in Michigan it is getting closer to us...Maybe in May it will be there. I can only hope. Anyhoo with Qwest in the valley i will have a phone and then the DSL package. I could have gotten a dish package and a cell phone too, but NO THANK YOU! Bad enough i sit in front of the computer too much i don't need to sit in front of tv that much more....:p
Well, I need to go help Sister in law out here and also need a nap!
12-08-2006, 09:58 PM
Thin - I know what you mean by cold. We've had several days of pretty cold weather. Glad your able to make stops along the way to rest up and visit with family. Be careful on your trip.
12-12-2006, 09:36 PM
Bringing us to the top!
12-14-2006, 10:09 PM
Hello Ladies -
Sure is lonely in here. Hope to hear from someone soon.
12-15-2006, 10:21 AM
:D Hi Chicks!
Made it fine to AZ...weather was a bit nasty in New Mexico, but luckily they didn't get the snow that was predicted(one foot!--that would have closed the interstates i'm sure!)
Nice here in the day it gets to about 70. I like it like that, but of course at night you do need just a bit of heat turned on cause it gets like 35 to 40 degrees for the low. Up and down here in the desert.
Hope more chicks start posting too, 1 DAY~~ I have not given up on my quest. Please lets here from more of you...HalGal...where are U gone??
Nita?? Mooz? Missing you!
OH, 1day i really like your avatar for the holiday!
They did not have that book "you on a diet" at Costco, so CAT, i am going to try the site you mentioned in your PM. Thanks for the tip. Even if i only get the 3 books required they are all good prices!
Well, got to go check out some new areas around here, so i will stop by later on today or tomorrow to see if anyone else has any news.
bye for now:smug:
12-15-2006, 12:19 PM
I am sorry I have been absent again! I cannot believe how busy I have been. But at least my three-day a week therapy sessions have come to an end with excellent results.
Shad - I agree with Thin you look awesome in red. And you are so lucky to have two handsome sons! A "great" family photo. Thanks for sharing!
Thin - I am so happy you made it to Arizona. The days have been quite enjoyable and I truly like the cold evenings because then i can cover up with my comforter.
Gene has fallen two times in one week and that is not good! I am not sure where this is going, however, I let him know many more falls and I may have to find a group home for him where someone monitors him at all times. Today is our 16th Anniversary and these years have flown by.
I am still bowling and lucky for me because it truly is a stress reliever. I am also embroidering sets of hand towels for my "special" friends.
Well I had better get moving. I still have a lot to do before I go bowling.
Love to you all,
12-16-2006, 12:10 AM
I cannot believe how long it has been since I've taken a minute to post to say hello and report in. I'm busy, but so is everyone else. I am still going to WW. With that said I won't be going tomorrow due to a holiday girls lunch outing, did not go last week due to a school function with my FCCLA club, and that is a snapshot of my life.
I have been pretty good, but sometimes no so. LOL
I am working on holiday cards. I'll do my best to send on out to all that have sent me addresses!
I'll post more, and soon.
12-16-2006, 10:25 PM
I'm so glad to hear from you all. I know everyone is busy with shopping and getting ready for the holidays and taking care of home and family. I'm so ready for some rest and relaxation. The end of the year at work is so hetic. I had a few days of vacation I was going to carry over, but I think i'll try and take week of Christmas. I'm still working out 3 times a week, once in a while I get a 4th workout in, but at the same time I'm eating whatever I want. I'm just hoping I don't gain.
Thin - Glad you all made to AZ safely. I got the book but haven't had a chance to finish reading it. I think I'll put that on my list of to do's if I take a few days off. I have been journaling have you. Of course if anyone read my journal they would wonder if I were on a weight gain diet. Oh, well my motto is "if you bite it write it".
Nita - I'm so sorry to hear that Gene has been having problems. I'm sure it's a scary feeling when he falls not knowing what all he has hurt. Is he still going to physical theraphy? Glad to hear your doing better.
Hal - By the looks of your ticker, looks like your losing weight. WTG...Are you traveling for the holidays? I'm sure your looking forward to some time off from the kids.
Mooz & Shad - hope to hear from you all too..
12-17-2006, 08:37 PM
Happy Sunday evening! I bowled in a tournament today--did not win but still had fun!
I have to confess dieting for me is not working. I thought I could get through the holidays maintaining but it does not look that way. However, I cannot beat myself up because that will not do any good. I read the review of the doctors' new book and it does sound encouraging.
No, Gene is not doing any physical therapy and taking him to appointments is very difficult. I am taking him to the dentist on Tuesday.
I have been very busy making Christmas gifts. This does keep me out of the kitchen so it is a good thing! One of my granddaughters gave birth to a baby boy on Saturday in Ohio. This means I now have 9 great grandchildren. I cannot believe how times flies.
Well, I am going to try and post more often because I do know I can get back on track.
Have any of you ladies hear Il Divo sing? These are four goodlooking guys from different countries--one is from the U.S. and they sing classical and opera music. They have been on Oprah's show and Good Morning America. I have their CD and they are truly awesome.
12-18-2006, 09:55 PM
Nita - I have a cd of Il Divo. I intend to get some more as well. Today I saw that they have a Christmas disc out. The one I have has Unchained Melody and Ave Maria on it. Brings tears to the eyes. They are gorgeous.
Sorry to hear you are having such a tough time of it. It's a pain not being able to lose at all I know. At the moment all I am concentrating on is not gaining and exercise. If I can achieve that over the Christmas period, I will be happy.
I'm still in Townsville. It's hot and the aircon has broken in my unit (one of the many things not right in this block of units) Tonight I might have to sleep in the pool.
Got plenty of work to do and am mentoring a couple of young guys (makes a really nice change) who are keen to get on with things. It's fun.
Guess I had better go get on with the job. I'm going home on the 24th for 10 days. I should get back here before then tho. I really am behind on all Christmas stuff and no cards will be posted until after the event. I had them all ready to travel up with me and must have left them somewhere safe because they sure aren't here - and I forgot my address book anyway.
12-21-2006, 10:39 PM
Hello Ladies -
Trying to get ready for the holidays. My shopping is done, now all I have to do is wrap and pack. OH, we're spending Christmas at my brothers in Austin. It's about a 3 - 3 1/2 hour drive but i'm sure with holiday traffic it will turn in to 4 or 5. Tomorrow is a work day and now I really wished I had take a vacation day. I've been exercising all week, but eating everything. After the holidays I plan to start my diet.
Nita - Congrats on your new grandbaby! I'm sorry to hear Gene is not doing as well as he was. Let's get through the holidays and come Jan 1 let make that committment to journal or count points.
Shad - I'm sure you'll be glad to get home even if it for a short period. Gosh no a/c. Is'nt is pretty hot there?
I might not log on until the 27th or 28th. Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! To those that are traveling please be safe.
12-22-2006, 03:15 AM
   .... Hi chickies ...... sorry for not checking in more often.
Christmas is nearly on us again and I can't believe how quickly it has crept up on me!
I have not posted any cards overseas this year so any of you that I have an e-mail address for will be getting e-cards instead.
My eating is going well. At home mostly eat healthy food but if I am eating out then I allow myself a little treat. It seems to be working slowly as I weighed in this morning at 155. ;) ..... mind you I am eating out today at lunch time for our staff Christmas lunch and then eating out in the evening with the line dancers for their Christmas dinner..... maybe I will just not weigh in again for a few days ........ :dizzy:
The kids will all be home at Christmas which is good although it will be strange without my mum.
Gotta go now and I will check in over Christmas to see what you have all been up to.

12-23-2006, 11:00 PM
Merry Christmas Chicks~~~~ wishing you all a happy one.
12-25-2006, 08:57 PM
Sorry I've been absent--hope everyone had a fine Christmas.
Nita--sorry about Gene. Wish he could find the right person to help him.
Wishing you all well!i
12-26-2006, 03:24 PM
Good Morning everyone,
I hope you all had a very merry Christmas and will be enjoying a Happy New Year shortly. Blessings to all of you at this time.
It's been somewhat hectic around here as I flew in from Townsville on Sunday night and got to bed late (just before Santa was due to arrive) and don't seem to have stopped running yet. I haven't posted any cards at all this year since stupidly I left them here and my address book and went happily off to Townsville without either of them. Couldn't see the point in buying more cards only to have them sitting around until I got back here for the addresses.
Anita - Congratulations on the birth of a great-grandchild. How lovely for you. Do they send you online pictures so you can keep up with developments. So hard to be far away from the family in these big countries we live in but thank heavens for e-mail and computers. Do you use a computer phone site like Skype (there are others) that keeps the phone bills down as you talk through your broadband connection? You can even hook up a camera so you can see the family while you talk to them. I don't use mine alot unfortunately, we have to make appointments so we are all around at the same time, and my computer seems to have developed a sound problem which I must fix this week while I am home.
Mooz, good to hear from you too. Thanks for the e-card. I haven't played it yet due to the lack of sound as described above, but I will get to it this week. This Christmas will seem strange without Mum, but I am sure she will be there in spirit if not physically. One good thing about family memories - they can't be taken away even if Mum is not there. Is it snowing in Ireland yet? What did you have for Christmas dinner this year?
Our Breakfast/ Lunch was interesting, to say the least! DB2 said he had a chicken and would get some bacon and eggs so we left him to get on with it. After all this is the first time he has volunteered to get the food ready!!!! DS2 rang him on the Saturday before Christmas to see if he needed any last minute stuff as he (DS2) was going shopping. Oh DB2 said, didn't realise I had to do all that stuff as well! Good thing we asked wasn't it.
Anyway, time to go get on with the day. I hope you are all enjoying your Boxing Day celebrations and life is treating you all kindly.
12-29-2006, 07:14 PM
Finally I can share some really good news. Gene and I checked out two residential homes that keep people like him so the caregiver can have a break. He really liked the smaller home and we made a commitment to take him there on the 14th of January. I was very lucky to get a really cheap ticket on US Airways--$198.00--nonstop to PA. There were only two seats at this price. The cost to keep Gene at this home is $90 per day. The lady wanted $100 but I negotiated the $90 charge. All of a sudden I feel less pressured and am really looking forward to seeing family. My bowling partner is taking Tiffany to his house and the wife said to give Gene their phone number just in case he needs anything. As far as dieting is concerned, I have decided to try Slimfast for a couple of meals and hopefully this will give me a pretty good start to get back on track. I still have two more meetings at WW that I have paid for so even though I will have a gain I am going to go.
Thanks again for all your support.
HAPPY NEW YEAR to all of you!
12-30-2006, 02:20 PM
Good Afternoon Ladies -
Nita - Oh, I'm so excited for you. I know you have missed your family and were somewhat caught in the middle of leaving Gene and visiting family. Now you know he will be taken care of properly. I'm sure the kids are so excited to see you.
Mooz - I have to agree with Shad, your Mum is not here physically but she is always in your heart and here in spirit.
Shad - I too didn't get any cards out. I"m thinking of sending some new years's one. I was kinda of like DB2 a few years ago. I just never realized how much work my mother did to put on a family meal. How long are you in town?
Cat, Thin and Hal - Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas.
As for me we all went to my brothers for the holidays, spent a few extra days there. Had a great time enjoying family. On a sad note, my good friend passed away on the 19th in her sleep. She was only 45, but had many complications due to diabetes & kidney failure. I had know her for about 25 years. I hadn't exercised for about 5 days but this morning got up and took a exercise class. I'm getting back on track with that. I start my eating healthy on Jan. 1.
12-30-2006, 02:23 PM
Hello Ladies -
The New Year is upon is. Do you make New Year's Resolutions? If so what are yours?
Mine is to continue my exercise program and work out 3 days a week with morning class and to add 1 cardio class/machine.
12-31-2006, 06:36 AM
It's not quite here yet, but I've declared the year over and am off to bed - perchance to to dream (with apologies to Shakespeare)
I wish you all a very happy new year, may all your goals be achieved, may we all travel well and safely, may we all get to see our loved ones however far away they are and may we lose our weight slowly, surely and safely.
01-01-2007, 03:37 PM
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
01-03-2007, 10:04 PM
It was so hard to get up this morning and work out, BUT I did it. And of course it felt as if I hadn't exercised in a long time. My knees and legs seemed so stiff. This week i'm focusing on drinking more water, eating 2 fruits and taking my vitamin. That's it.
Hope everyone is having a wonderful week.
01-03-2007, 10:24 PM
Hey Movers and Losers!
Another year rolls in, and I am just fine. These last few years have been really difficult ones for me, and I guess it is time to acknowledge the difficulty and move on. While I was writing holiday cards I ran into a picture of me just a few years ago, and it could have been a decade ago if you did not know me. Stress and sadness is written all over recent pictures. Knowledge is power, and I am ready to power up!
Rocky and I went to Indiana for Christmas week. My youngest nephew stayed with us in the hotel all week. What fun it was. I spent 90% of my time helping my sister get her house/things in order. I think I told you she had a stroke in October. She lost mobility on her right side, but is slowly returning. For whatever reason, my brothers that live close to her have not help her. I worry for her, and will continue to work to find resources for her to make things better/easier for her. Currently local churches are coming in to help her and the boys.
I saw myself in a few holiday pictures and it is scary. I've never been as large as I am now. Time to get serious.
Anita: Thanks for your holiday card!
Mooz: Thanks for your eholiday card!
Rocky has a harness that fits well and we are going to begin daily walking. We will both enjoy the benefits.
I'll do my best to post routinely. I do appreciate each of you and this blog.
Happy, Healthy New Year!
01-05-2007, 07:08 PM
:carrot: Happy New Year chicks~~~
Hope you all are ready for 2007 challenge! I got my "You on a Diet" book just today(the mail has been very slow due to the holidays). Looks like it is a do-able plan. I had alot of the foods bought already, but just didnt' know how it all played out till this evening. I have not been weighing myself since i got here, and i know i've cut back on alot of bad foods, so things should be moving DOWN wards! lets hope anyway! I bought ground chicken for cooking with too, so that is a good change. Tonite we are grilling our 2 ckn.burgers and having salad after a busy day of work. Both of us have picked up some hours at the flea farm. So that will be good to keep us from picking at food!
I just need to start the 30 minutes of walking that DR.Oz talks of. Maybe DH will start too, and then i'll have my partner.
Good to hear from all of you and i will be sure to write more soon.
01-07-2007, 07:38 PM
Gosh, I really have been AWOL. It was good to catch up. Wish you all well.
DMIL is in intensive care--broke her hip. Because her bones are what the surgeon calls "eggshell bones," it took major, major surgery to try to put her back together--and she's not recovering well.
Dog has been ill again. Maybe this will be the last of it--she seems perky and her appetite is back.
We have a new cat, who will have kittens any moment now.
We are having training for a slightly different (and apparently even duller) job. Eventually, the idea is that we'll do a variety of functions so that the caller has fewer transfers. Meanwhile, the training is so boring sometimes I can hardly keep from crying. (So "bored to tears" is not just a cliche.) I have my knitting and other things around, and it's STILL awful.
Had a couple more poems published, so that felt good.
Best to all--
01-07-2007, 09:07 PM
I braved the scale and went to WW Saturday. I began logging my points on Wednesday, and I think I may have undone a few of the damage pounds. I gained 3 pounds over 3 weeks of absolutely enjoying the holiday. I did not over eat, but tried anything that looked appetizing. Lots of things are very appetizing over the holidays! LOL WW gave me 4 more points until I lose a few more pounds. They have reworked their plan paying more attention to age, gender and physical activity levels.
My sister is struggling with her stroke recovery. Yesterday she said she could not walk at all. She has guardianship of my nephews that are now 7 and 13 years old. They are helping her all they can. She needs our prayers to recover. I am afraid she is giving up, and that scares me.
2007 is going to be a good year, and can just tell it. I hope each of you are doing well, and I look forward to lots of ideas and continued support here. I hope you all received your holiday cards by now. I know I did not allow enough time for the ones to Mooz and Shad, but hopefully by now they have arrived.
All the best!!!!

Hello Ladies -
Not sure what's going on with me, but I just feeling so blah... A good friend of mine passed away 2 weeks ago and I think it's finally hitting me. All I did this weekend was eat. I even took a 1/2 friday to get things done, but just came home and laid on the couch. We'll tomorrow is my workout class and I feel like cancelling it but I know I shouldn't. This is I"m going to focus on adding 2 fruits daily.
Hal - Will definitely keep your sister in my prayers. I'm sure the boys are worried too. They lost their Mom a few years ago and now they see their's Aunt's health. Sending lots of hugs and angels their way. Three pounds is not too bad. You can get that off in no time.
Cat - So sorry to hear about your DMIL. I will keep her in my prayers too. That's great about your poems. Don't know what to say about work. I guess it could be worse;)
Thin - I definitely could use a challenge. Let's think of something. I too have the book, I guess I need to finish it.
Shad & Nita - hope you all are doing ok. Nita, I guess your preparing for your trip back home.

Good to hear from so many over Christmas. I didn’t get any cards away this year. Still my friends must forgive me as there are as many Christmas cards on the shelf this year as there was last year. Bless them all.
Patty – drinking water and eating fruit is good. Starting back on the exercise is better. Keep it going. So sorry to hear about your friend passing away. We must all be starting fresh this January.
Hal – brothers never get the message about help. Sometimes I think you have to put a bomb under them to get them to do something for someone else. I’ve had a few set to’s with my brothers I can tell you. And it is all basic stuff.
I haven’t seen your card yet – wasn’t there as of last Friday, but it may well be now. Thank you.
Nita, you must be getting excited about the forthcoming trip. I hope it all goes well for you. You deserve this break.
Thin – hope you have started the walking now. Sometimes you just have to get out and do it or spend money to do it so you keep going back just so’s you won’t waste money. Chicken burgers sound really nice.
Cat – so sorry to hear about DMIL. So hard for her to heal when the bones are falling apart. I wish her well.
Crikey – a cat having kittens??? You sure know how to pick ‘em or did you want one like that?
It is so hard when training is boring. That’s a bad indictment on the trainer. We should never make life boring.
Have started to look at the CSIRO wellbeing diet. It is devised by the Scientific division of the Aus Government. I have the first book and now the second is out. It is a fairly easy one to follow and works on a Units points system. So far I have found it fine – but then I have only been there 2 days. Plenty of food. Sometimes far to much I fear. I can’t always eat all my dinner.
Also I have decided to try to lose 10% of my total bodyweight this year. In fact I will settle for weighing less at the end of the year than I did at the beginning. (This is a quote from an inspirational lady on the Journals who vowed to lose the above and ended up 70lbs lighter. She is WWPeggy and if you see her journals then I would suggest you read them.
The third thing I have done is to join a gym for a three month period. I find it very difficult arguing with myself about the amount of exercise I do up here (or lack of it rather).
Well that’s my lot for a time. Gotta get moving. Bye for now.

Hello Ladies -
We'll I made it to my 5:30 class this morning. Trust me, I wanted to cancel so bad. Once I got there & finished the class I felt good. I had made a committment to myself I can only cancel if I'm sick.
Shad - right now I"m taking the 3 morning classes and 1 night pilates class. I going to try and take baby steps as far as the food. It sure is hard getting 2 fruits in. Is the CSIRO, somewhat like a WW point system? That is good that the goverment has come out with a program.
01-08-2007, 10:28 PM
The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation is one arm of the Government, however I am not sure that this is a government initiative. I think that the CSIRO decided to dispel a lot of myths around dieting and take away some of the silly and dangerous fad diets that are around at the moment. They have produced 2 books and divided food into units such as bread, protein, vegetable, dairy etc. Food is weighed and measured. They produce a menu for 12 weeks, give you tips to help with exercise and how to do it at home if you have that much willpower. It is sensible eating, however I am not sure that we should have as much protein as they are advising. I'm finding it difficult to finish my evening meal. However I have only been doing it for 3 days and I am down 400g or nearly a pound already so maybe it is working. Maybe I can also change some of the evening meal to the lunch meal as well. Tonight I am having Lemon Thyme chicken with red onions and butternut squash and then 200g of yoghurt and 150g of tinned fruit. I've shifted the fruit to my lunch allowance.
There is no doubt that exercise is the key to the whole thing and water as well. The three in conjunction will make you lose weight. I'll try to upload a picture of the size of my dinner tonight to let you see how much I will eat!
01-10-2007, 06:11 PM
Crikey, no-one else here but me????
See you all later. Hope you are all having a good time.
01-10-2007, 09:27 PM
I'm on day 3 of eating healthy. NO fast food/restaurants for me is one of the things i'm trying. So far so good, but it really takes alot of planning and having the right foods on hand at home. I'm also really working hard on getting those veggies and fruits in.
Shad - You know that is probably a really good idea. There are so many myths out there about exercise, dieting, being healthy. I was just talking to a lady at lunch and she was like " aren't you afraid you'll get big muscles if you use any type of weights" . I had to tell her that most women, are not built that way. I guess you picture didn't post. But you are so right, when you eat healthy, you actually have alot of food.
01-10-2007, 10:09 PM
Just a quick note to let you know the time is going so fast, and I am getting more excited each day. My bowling partner is going to pick up Tiffany on Saturday after she comes home from the beauty parlor and I will be taking Gene to the home Sunday at 5:00 p.m. This means that for the first time I will have the whole house to myself and I do not have to leave for the airport until 1:30 p.m. on Monday.
HalGal, I, too, will keep your sister in my prayers. I know about sisters. I can hardly wait to hug my sister, who I will be staying with in Ohio, because it has been such a long time and since she lost her leg, it hasn't been to easy for her either. On another note, I, too, went to weigh in at WW last Thursday. I didn't plan on going but since I had already paid, I thought it was a good idea. I didn't do as well as you--I gained 6.2 lbs. in 3 weeks. However, the good news is I decided to try the Core program because I simply hate keeping track of what I eat. What I am finding out is that it has only been almost a week now and I am not tempted to eat sweets. I have been eating a baked potato, salads; my favorite breakfast is one egg with egg substitute, one fat-free hot dog cut up and a small amount of shredded cheese fried in my teflon pan. I also enjoy my oranges from my own orange tree. I have also been eating brown rice, sugar-free, fat-free pudding, oatmeal with raisins, walnuts and cinnamon. If you use the old fashioned oatmeal, you microwave it for 6 minutes on 50% power. I am going to try extra hard to stay on program while I am on vacation. My daughter in PA has a weight problem and the fact that I am coming in, she is getting excited and has been logging in to the Biggest Loser and is going to see a physician who is her personal friend to set up a program for her. Perhaps I can help her get started.
Well I had better get moving. I will try to check in again before I leave.
Take care all,
01-11-2007, 12:06 PM
wanted to send well-wishes to NITA before you head out! Sounds like this is going to be an exciting time for you. Good luck with staying strong while you are away. Your right about not wanting to count points/calories anymore, just eat the real foods you mentioned whenever you can and they should keep you full the longest. That is what this book by Dr Oz and Dr Rozen is all about. No more of the bad sugars ...i don't have them in the place. That is the only way. I bought one bar of the 70% cocoa chocolate bars, and that is my only treat--and i've only had a bite of it for the first time last night. I am not craving the sugars anymore since we have been eliminating them for some time. The high-fructose stuff esp.
HI Cat~~sorry to say I am not walking much yet. Need to find that partner i guess. Today i'm going to walk in the mall --hope that counts for something. I am off my butt alot more tho. Looks like i'm down a few #'s too.
1day~~YGG!:carrot: Glad you are making plans to get away from the fast foods! That is great. I love the idea of the smaller/more often meals with this new YOU plan. That is working out great, having about 6 almonds when i'm starting to feel the hunger is really working.
Hi to Shad, Mooz. HalGal--and sending prayers to your sister.
Stay in touch all, and i will be also.
01-11-2007, 08:17 PM
Great to hear from you! Too bad you are staying so far away from where I live or I would be happy to be your walking partner. Perhaps when I return we could meet somewhere halfway and do some walking. I also use those almonds and peacans when I get hungry. I understand they are really good for you. I bought Greene's book today from Costco. It seems everyone is really sold on it. It was only $14.19 and I thought I would read it on the plane going to PA.
I need to go now because I am trying to get MSN back on my other computer and MSN is not responding to my e-mails. This is really very aggravating because I spent five hours over two days talking to their support people in India.
Hope everyone is doing well!
01-11-2007, 09:12 PM
DMIL left us Monday night.
The doctor had been in a few hours before, and said he thought we were agreed, but wasn't sure she was ready. He expected the next morning if things hadn't changed he would write orders for comfort care. But at quarter of 10 she just slipped away. Family with her. Viewing was today, funeral tomorrow.
Thanks for your prayers. She was ready to go.
01-11-2007, 11:04 PM
Oh Cat, I am so sorry, but it sounds like a painless exit for her. My thoughts are with you and your DH at this time.
01-12-2007, 07:17 AM
Cat - My deepest sympathy to you and your family. Thoughts are prayers are with you.
01-13-2007, 10:43 AM
Cat - I am so sorry for your loss. However, she no longer is suffering and is resting peacefully. My thoughts are with you.
01-13-2007, 10:54 AM
 CAT~~so sorry to hear of your loss. Sending hugs and prayers your way. Take care and stay in touch.
01-14-2007, 09:36 PM
Nasty, nasty weather here. Not as bad as western KS, where there is a real disaster, and herds of cattle dying, but bad enough. Which makes it hard to get my walking in. Then, of course, the death throws everything off. So many people remembered and admired her.
Hope everyone is warm and safe.
Oh: regarding the cat. She had been on the farm where my son lives, and never liked being a barn cat, kept trying to make up to him. So we took her in. However, the vet says two kittens, at most three, and we have places for three already.
You know what they say, life is what happens when you're making other plans . . .
01-15-2007, 10:33 AM
Cat: I am sorry to learn about your SIL's passing. You are so correct on the saying 'Life happens while you are making other plans.' You and your famly remain in my thoughts and prayers during this sad and difficult time. Congrats on publishing your poems. You know, I always enjoy them, and would always welcome a copy sent along. You are very talented.
Thin: So good to hear from you these days! I saw most of the show Dr. Oz was on Oprah a few weeks ago. They have good information, but so do most of the experts. What I like about WW is they give you a plan to use for life, so maintenance is possible. So many nutrition plans offer weight loss plans and then there you are. That has been my experience. The difficult part seems to be maintaining that weight loss. By the way, I weighed in Saturday and lost the 3 pounds I gained over the holidays. This is such a good move for me, and a first. WW has me eating a ton of fruits and veggies until I lose a few more pounds.
Nita: You are getting ready to leave any moment now, and may miss this post but if you do read it, have a wonderful trip. I hope you really have an opportunity to relax and enjoy your family.
Shad: Hey, where is the picuture of you dinner? LOL, you are right about the right combinations of food, water and exercise. If I do all WW suggests I do lose weight, and at a safe rate which is a few pounds a week. I've been having cottage cheese with mixed tropical fruits (canned in their own juice by Dole) for a midmorning snack. I have a difficult time getting in 3 dairy servings a day. I have a pot of navy beans in the crock pot cooking today, and they will provide fiber and protein all week! Why do they call navy beans navy when they are white? LOL I had a chef from a 2 year college come talke to my foods classes. He brought in fresh herbs, and the sweet lemon smell of fresh thyme was so nice. It really pays to use fresh herbs if you can. I think I may grow a small herb garden this spring and hope the squirrels stay out of them.
Mooz: First off, Hal has a new CD coming out next month. It is only being released in the UK, and I have prepaid an order for it. LOL Don't forget he will be over your way February and March. You know I'll send more details as they are available. I was telling a few students about the tape you made for me last year, and they want to see it. So much fun. How is WW going for you so far? I am on a new monthly pass program offered here which includes the use of ETools. I like the ETools as you get recipes daily to look at, you can log your food intake and weight loss/gain saga. It is all good. How is your art work coming along?
OneDay: How is Blackie doing? I took Rocky for the trip to Indiana, and he really enjoyed this trip. He is so attached to me, I had no idea. I guess it is my fault since we have stayed in mostly these last couple of years - he knows no better. Time to change that and get out and enjoy the little gifts life has to offer. Rocky certainly enjoyed the trip. I got a nice harness for him so he can run and jump with the 20 foot leash. It's good for both of us. Today it is pouring rain, so I'll work inside. It is the MLK holiday, and I am cleaning and taking down the Christmas tree. I have been out of state and this is my first free day since I've returned. My students tell me things about working in fast food restaurants that make eating there not so desirable. I am getting more particular also I think, and just don't seem to enjoy it so much anymore. It is hard to work in all the fruits and veggies we need. Good luck!!!
01-15-2007, 10:13 PM
The weather got somewhat bad here. The temps were in the 30's then dropped to freezing, we had lots of rain which turned to freezing rain. Of course the roads where hazardous to drive on. ON the up side the lake level went up by 3 feet. Of course being inside all weekend, there was nothing to do but eat. I could of cleaned house, cleaned closets or drawers, but instead watched TV and ate. Why do sabatoge ourselves??
Nita - I hope your have a wonderful trip with your family.
Hal - WTG on your 3lb loss. I agree it is hard to get all the veggies and fruit in. I seem to get my veggies in all at one time. Do you have any tips for cooking chicken. I had bought some precooked frozen chicken, but when I cook in microwave, it's gets real dry.
My weight in was last friday. I gained 2 lbs. I know the last 2 weeks I have not eaten very good, and it's also TOM. Tomorrow is a new day..
01-16-2007, 09:59 PM
By now Nita is probably at home with the family. I really hope you have a great time Nita.
One day - sorry about the 2lb gain, it happens. Just go back to where you were losing and start again.
Hal - the picture of my dinner didn't get taken. I didn't have the software up here to upload it onto the computer. I have now, so I will get around to it asap. I think they call them Navy beans because they were one thing on the ship that didn't go rancid or putrid when the navy was off fighting their battles in the dim dark distant past.
Cat hope you are coping okay. Life is indeed what happens. I'm glad the cat has a good home and that the kittens will have one too.
Not much to report here. I'm still busy working, working, working. Still eating well and can report a 1kilo (2lb) loss up to last Friday. Don't think it will be quite as large this week but who knows. It could still happen. Still enjoying the eating - lots of veges, lots of fresh herbs, lots of salad stuff. And it is all very tasty.
Better go and see what else I have to finish today. I'm very annoyed at the stuff that I did last week - which is all now about to be changed. Grurrrr
01-17-2007, 10:00 PM
:carrot: hey there chicksters~~
had to stop by to give a hello to all of you fine ladies.
Weather is cold here, but where isn't it nasty? So i should not complain that we had a couple of 20 - 30 degree nights. The valley of the sun is not normally this way, but it seems to be over now. I think they said on the weather news that there has not been 2 as cold nights in a row for the last 30 years!
I have lost about 6# since the end of Nov. And about 1 " on the waist. That is all i'm measuring now w/this new "you on a diet" plan. I have been pretty careful to cut out nearly all the products w/fructose and i feel so much better. Not hungry all the time---Perhaps those drs. have got that figured out. And more good news, i have begun my walking. 10 minutes here, 15 there, and going to try to make that my new habit. My shoes rub a bit, but not too bad. I'm sure they will break in soon.
My good pal back home is bummed ...her sister husband are doing south beach and they have lost 12# and 11# respectively. Where she on the other hand is staying the same or gaining 1#. she needs some support, so i will do what i can from afar. we IM once in awhile and i will email more often. I think she might need a plan like i'm on. she is a diabetic which might make it hard to find the right plan.
Well, off to watch Criminal Minds now. Take care all.
01-18-2007, 10:39 PM
Well, guess what, the vet was wrong, and Misty Cat is not pg. I was surprised, as she is really very good and has saved several of our animals' lives, but I guess anyone can make a mistake.
Hal--congrats on the loss. Will get you those poems PM.
OOPS DD has just come in for visit. tTalk to you later.
01-19-2007, 01:33 PM
Today was not my official weigh in but I did just to see if scale moved and it did.. 2 lbs down. We have been having to journal everyday and that has really helped me alot. Also Dr. Oz had mentioned eating the same food for breakfast and lunch for a week/ month. Said then you don't have to make all the choices of what to eat. I have been doing that and it's working out great for me. NO more decisions of what to eat. I broght my lunch and that is that. Dinner is a different story, but I have been eating more protein and veggies vs. pastas..
Cat - Yikes, like you said anyone can make a mistake.
Thin - WTG on the 6 lb loss. YOU GO GIRL. I like what Dr Oz had to say too. I still haven't finished reading the book, but i am trying to incorporate more protein and less processed foods.
Shad - WTG on your 2 lb loss. YOU GO GIRL>>>
01-20-2007, 05:26 PM
Down another kilo this week, this thing seems to be working. :yikes: Can't see where the 2.2k is missing from yet, but I guess it will happen.
Patty - great news on your 2lb loss. :woohoo:
Can't stop. Gotta work.
01-21-2007, 09:46 PM
Hadn't warned you I was on storytelling retreat this weekend. It was so icy Sat night that everything in Clinton, MO was canceled, including our public concert. But PTL by the time I came home Sunday the roads were clear. And I had a great time! Too many goodies, but I did more yoga than I have in a long time--one of the tellers led us in a class.
WTG for all the losers.
Thanks for all the kind thoughts on the loss of DMIL.
01-21-2007, 09:57 PM
Hello Ladies -
Shad - WTG on your loss. How much is 2.2k compared to lbs? Sounds like the program is working. Are you still at home?
I had a very easy going weekend. We'll actually I cleaned out the pantry. I pulled lots of foods that I should not eat. Going to drop those by my parents, maybe they want them. I have been journaling and now I'm adding the calories and fat/carb/protein grams to what I eat. Since I have been jouranling it really making me think of what I had been eating compared to what I am eating now. One thing I definitely know is eating healthy is expensive. Yesterday 1 orange was going for 98 cents. I know it's because of the cold freeze that CA got, but wow... I now realize what Thin had mentioned before about the cost of fruits and veggies up North.
This week I plan to up my exercise. 3 days of morning classes and I'm adding 1 pilates. I know I had mentioned that at the beginning of the year, but I hadn't done it. This week I am.
Hope everyone is doing ok..
Nita - hope you are enjoying your visit with your kids and I hope Gene is doing well. I'm sure he misses you.
Mooz - Hope your still getting your walks in? Any new drawings?
Thin - How is "you on a diet" plan working for you.
Hal - How did your weigh in go with WW? Have you heard anymore from your friend that you were telling us about??
Cat - Praying that as each day goes by your DMIL memories help ease your pain.
01-22-2007, 12:29 PM
Weighing in on Mondays as is my pal back home. (she is doing south beach). We IM each other in the morning and this helps us both to be honest and do this.
I am journaling on my computer what i eat and what exercise i do also, 1Day. I like the concept of the YOAD plan. I really did not feel hungry when i was eating just like Dr.Oz recommends. It is very cold here, NITA is lucky to be away from the valley of the sun right now! more like winter than all the years i've been visiting. We have had to have some heat going in our trailer every day for about 2 wks now. I think Phoenix was in the news for having some snow hit the ground. Scottsdale area had even more. The superstion mts had some too. pretty. i'll try to attach a pic of it. Got it off of AZfamily channel ...also this one of dog excited and catching snowflakes was so cute i saved it to show you also.
I did not lose this week, but maintained. I did not get my walking in when i was working the weekend, but now i'm going back to it for the next 4 days at least.
got to go shopping and get some good (high fiber ) bread again. Found this Alpine Valley bakery here, and boy is the 9 grain wonderful. 3 g fiber per slice and it actually tastes good. It only lists honey as the sweetner and it's far down in the ingredient list, so i feel it's good for my plan.
Yes, even we are paying more for the fruits already, it is more expensive to eat healthy, but i am willing to keep at it while I can afford it anyway!
You girls have a great Monday and i will chek in again soon
here is the link to doggie pic http://forms.belointeractive.com/sharedcontent/datafiles/1169399361049_ORIGINAL_Chueycatchingsnow.jpg can't seem to save it or upload it any other way!

Hello Ladies -
Thin - what a beautiful picture. Are those mountains near you? Journaling has really helped me. I know you said you didn't lose anything this week, but remember your improving your blood pressure, your cholestrol, your total well being. It's not just the scale that improves. (OK.. i have to remind myself that too.. :)
Hope everyone is having a good week.
01-25-2007, 09:46 PM
Bringing us to the top.
Tomorrow is my weigh in day. It's been 2 weeks since i've been eating healthy and journaling. WE'll see...
01-27-2007, 09:14 PM
Just a quick note to let you all know my vacation will be ending tomorrow. I have had a wonderful time visiting with the children and grandchildren. However, I came down with some sort of stomach flu about 4 days ago and I still have it. I sure hope it gets better before I take off early Monday morning. Gene is doing very well and the people at the home are really spoiling him. However, he does miss me. My bowling partner who has my dog says everyone that meets her wants to take her home. She is doing just fine and she, also, is being spoiled.
I am ready to come home because I do miss sleeping in my own bed and doing exactly what I want to do.
Take care all,
01-27-2007, 10:29 PM
Hello Ladies -
Nita - So sorry to hear that you have been sick. I hope your stomach flu is gone by the time your travel. If not call the airline I"m sure they would help you out. I"m glad the rest of your time there has been wonderful. Have a safe trip home and feel better.
Friday was my weigh in and I lost 3 lbs :carrot: I won't get measured until end of month. I have been journaling and watching what I eat for the last 10 days.
Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend. Hope to hear from you all soon!
01-27-2007, 10:52 PM
Just a quick note. Thank you for all your kind thought.
01-30-2007, 01:46 AM
Sorry I haven't been in contact more often. I'm sort of a bit busy right now. In fact one could say I am up to my ears in work. And I don't have access outside of work hours at the moment so life on the net is not too easy.
Nita, glad you have had a good time while away. But isn't it good to get home to your own bed!
Patty great loss there girl. Keep it going.
01-30-2007, 09:00 PM
Hey Movers and Losers!
I hope this finds everyone finding some time to enjoy themselves, all the while remaining true to our resolutions and new year goals. So far so good for me. I gained 3 pounds over the holidays, and took them off the first week of January. The next week I gained 1.6 pounds, and last week lost 2.8.
So, I'm down another 1.5 pounds for the month of January - continuiing my saga. That works for me. The weight came on slowly. I am motivated and remain dedicated. I feel in control just knowing I am weighing in each Saturday good or bad. I am still on the montly pass program which offers the use of ETools, very neat stuff.
I bought ingredients tonight to make a recipe I found on WW ETools that is a spinach/cheese tortilla baked or pan fried. It uses a shallot and garlic along with some feta and parmesian cheese - not much - just a tad. It has 4 points a serving, and the serving size is a good size.
It is so cold here, I hope you guys are keeping warm. We are in for some record cold. This comes just a week after record warm temperatures.
Nita: I am so happy to hear all went well on your trip with the exception of the stomach virus. On the positive side, I am sure you did not gain any weight as you thought you would. Hopefully you can plan to go again soon now that you have done it successfully. There is no place like home and no place like your own bed. LOL
CatLover: I sent my email to you. Thanks for trying to send your poems. I always enjoy reading your work. Hope your visit with your DD went well.
Thin: Always good to hear from you! Sorry you are chillin in Arizona! Just heat up a nice cup of warm tea, and kick back. That picture was so beautiful, you are very blessed. Hey, I had a few red pepper strips at a training I attended. I am making every attempt to eat more fruits and veggies. WW says I need extra ones until I lose a few more pounds. It is a chore to do that. I'll do my best tho.
Shad: I can only imagine what it would be like to try to communicate here without internet at home. I can post from work, but like you rarely have a second to even contemplate it. Life should be slower, more relaxed. So, what is the skinny on Nichole and Keith your way? According to news reports here he just got out of a 3 month rehab. I hope things work out for each of them. You will have to tell us more about what/where you are when you have time.
Mooz: Hey girl, Hal is comiing your way next month. LOL Let's hear from you and how you are doing! I hope you and your family are enjoying quiet and restful times this new year. How is the art work going along?
Well, I am resolute to get plenty of sleep and exercise as I monitor what I eat this new year. I feel good about these resolutions. Thanks for giving me a supportive place to share and get ideas.
All the best!

Hal - don't know of much gossip on the Nicole and Keith front. He was supposed to front here for some show in Brisbane and also the Golden Guitars country music festival in Tamworth. However I read somewhere that he doesn't want to go back to Tamworth since he 'has already been there and done that' and doesn't think he needs to go back to his roots.
As far as the drug and booze rehab goes - I don't know and I wouldn't bet on any long term cure for ex-addicts, there's only a few who make it through.
Got a mountain of work to do here, so won't be back for a couple of days. It's pouring with rain in Townsville and the rivers are breaking banks, roads are flooding and being closed. Gotta love the rainy season in the tropics. Who'd want to come here in summer

Time to check in. Eating plan is going pretty well, cept for last weekend! Had take-out pizza cause we worked way too long of days and were exhausted. But we did not gorge on it. had some for bkfst and lunch the next day! cold pizza is still pretty good. But have alot of healthy choices this week, cause i baked a turkey breast on Mon. Had only mashed rutabegga and 1/2 of a yam with it. (no spuds and gravy like normal). Then decided to make a yummy turkey pot pie (no crust) w/some of the lefover. Also saved a little of the clear broth for another soup for me. I actually prefer the clear broth, but for DH did the creamy one also. I put a bunch of healthy veggies and even some mushrooms in the pot pie, so it was real healthy and it was made w/o sodium, so that is what i am really striving for. Cannot just buy a can of anything, cause the sodium content is oh-so-high on that stuff. Home cookin' is the only way to regulate it. and most of the time i like to cook from scratch. Just need the time of course.
HALGAL~~I think i forgot to thank you for the Christmas card. And the pic of you and Rocky Road. Good job on the wt.loss for Jan. YGG! Keep on adding those veggies. Sounds like you need a new recipe to try...how about green beans and almonds? Here is one that i think i will try soon:
Roasted Green Beans and Almonds
1 pound green beans, trimmed
1/3 cup sliced almonds
1/4 tablespoon Chinese 5-spice powder
1 tablespoon canola oil
salt and ground black pepper
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
Toast sliced almonds in oven or toaster until fragrant and slightly golden, about 2-3 minutes.
Toss green beans with oil, spice powder, and almonds.
Spread out on rimmed cookie sheet and roast for about 10 minutes or until beans are tender.
Season with salt and pepper.
I know you like to do alot of veggies in the oven this way, so give this a go! or maybe you all will like this one( you can try cutting back to 1 potato and cut the oil too)
Sweet Potato Fries
4 medium sweet potatoes
2 teaspoons olive oil
1 pinch salt and pepper
Peel 4 medium sweet potatoes and cut into 1/2-inch-thick sticks.
Toss with 2 tsp. olive oil, salt and pepper.
Roast at 450 degrees F for 25 to 30 minutes, turning twice, until browned and tender.
Oh, by the way did you do that spinach/ch tortilla recipe yet? Is the spinach froz or fresh? Can you write down the exact recipe for me? Thanks.
1DAY~~~ Way to go on the 3# loss! YGG. I am staying steady. And still journaling(on my computer). I got 1/2 of my walking in so far today, and after my lunch digests i will try to do the other 15 minutes. EAting the Cheerios for bkfst almost every day. Let us know how the measuring goes when they do that again. I haven't done my waist in awhile...dont' see alot of results there. Well, i'm sure if i do more exercise it will happen. Keep up the good work and post when you can. It helps keep me motivated:) Do you have to go far for your exercise classes? And did you succeed w/your plan of adding the pilates? So do you do that on one of the same days you do other exercies? or go another day to class? OH, and yes that mountain range is close by. It is huge and looks close even when you take a distant ride. But i'd guess the base of it is only 3-4 miles from me. My sister in law and her companion climbed up it(to a spot called flat-iron--i don't believe it's actually at the top, but it sure it an all day climb to go up and back down!) 2 yrs ago when they visited. She along w/some friends who are 60+. and here i am just turning 50 this year and i'm lucky to walk on the flatlands! Well, there is this one hill i want to tackle here, but haven't gotten built up yet. called silly mountain! of all things. its' still steep enough for me.
NITA~~ are you home yet? Hope you are fully recovered from that tummy bug. You picked a good time to be away as our weather was not anything to brag about. Was there snow anywhere that you went? I bet it's been awhile since you've seen that. Well, we can see it from a distance on the mountains here occasionally, but that is not real winter! The superstitions even got it 2 wkends ago. Just like last year! How is Gene and did he enjoy the people taking care of him ?
Next time i want a pizza type meal i am going to try this new recipe using Tandoori Naan breads that i found at Trader Joes. Have 3 gr fiber and low cal & sodium is not too bad. I will put a tad of goat cheese and olive tapinade on them and bake till hot. Saw this recipe on TJ's site also. Pretty healthy stuff. I just found out that cheese has alot of sodium too, but i am not able to forgo it totally! I will do other things to cut back first.
SHAD~~hope you are having a good day and get time from your busy job to post more. You don't have a computer at home right now? hope things get better soon in that dept.
Hi to MOOZ~~hope you can drop by soon. Miss ya!
:goodluck: to all

Hey Movers and Losers,
I found myself with some time to catch up today. It is so cold here, but that is relative to 2 days above 60 degrees just 2 weeks ago, almost any degree of a temperture decline would feel COLD. We did not get out of the 20s today, and it is going to be colder the next few days. I love all four seasons, but just a tad of each and I'm ready for the next. LOL
I know I am better on plan when I work. So, today I had breakfast, and breakfast, and breakfast. It is my favorite meal, and Raisin Bran is so easy. I did make some eggs and a WW bagel for the early morning meal. I have fresh strawberries, and that is a real treat - they are actually good.
Thin; Here you go. I have the ingredients, and plan to make this tomorrow as in Friday.
Spinach and Feta Quesadillas
2 TBS olive oil
1 medium garlic clove, minced (I watched Rachel Ray grate these today.)
1 medium shallot, minced
10 oz. chopped frozen spinach, thawed and squeezed dry
1/4 cup feta cheese, crumbled
1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, shredded
1 TBS fat free creamer
1/4 cup canned aannellini beans, drained, rinsed and mashed
1/4 tsp. fresh lemon juice
4 medium flour tortilla(s) - 6 inch
1. Place olive oil in 10 inch skillet and heat over medium high heat. Add shallot and garlic and saute 1 minute.
2. Stir in spinach. Cook until spinach is hot and liquid evaporates. About 3 minutes. Remove from heat.
3. Add feta and Parmesan cheeses, creamer, beans, pepper and lemon juice to skillet. Stir until well mixed.
4. Spread 1/2 cup spinach mixture on half of each tortilla. Fold tortilla in half to enclose filling.
5. Recoat skillet with olive oil (1 tsp). Place 2 folded torillas in skillet and brown over medium heat. About 2 or 3 minutes per side. Set aside and cover to keep warm. (Wrap in foil and place in warm oven works nicely.)
Continue with remaining tortillas.
5. Cut each tortilla in half to form quarters. Serve with lemon wedges.
Yields 2 quarters per serving. 4 points per serving.
I would have to have some sour cream on the side with these! Yum! Just a tad to lighten it up.
SHAD: Thanks for the word on Keith and Nichole. I really hope for the best for each of them. Addiction is a difficult thing. He was in rehab for 3 months, and certainly says he is serious. I hope so for each of them. Always good to hear from you.
Stay warm Movers and Losers!

Well, if it's not one thing it's another. The dog we've had for 16 years has been having a lot of health problems, but always seemed to bounce back.
Today DH took her into the vet, and she said it's time to put her down. The vet is very tenacious, so she would not say that if there were any other choice. It's heartbreaking, because, although she's lost weight and her breath is raggedy, she still was tugging on the leash in the park (her favorite walk). She looks at us like, "Why are you all so sad? Can I cheer you up? Let me cheer you up."
02-02-2007, 10:28 PM
Hang in there... there is nothing easy about what you are facing. I had my previous dog almost 18 years. It took me almost 3 years to get another. It is not easy, they are the unconditional love members of our families.
02-03-2007, 12:38 PM
Hello Ladies -
It's so good to hear from all of you.
Cat - I am so sorry to hear about your dog.
Shad - Hope the work load & the rains lighten up.
Nita - Hope you made it home safely.
Mooz - Hope your doing ok.
Hal - We've had pretty cold weather here to. I think another front was suppose to come down this weekend but it stopped short at the OK border. We're suppose to have sunshine tomorrow..:carrot: WTG on sticking with your WW plan. That is the thing about the weight loss for me, one week i'm up the next i'm down. I just have to keep reminding myself i'm doing everything right and this will happen, OH and thanks for posting the recipes. Any good low carb ones on there?
Thin - I think climbing "silly mountain" sounds like a good goal to me. I'm sure you could figure how many miles it takes to go up and down it and from there try and increase you walking to get there. The place that I workout from is about 5 miles from me, takes about 10 minutes in the morning. No, I haven't worked in any evening workouts. This month has been very hetic for me. I will need to just put it on my calendar and pretend it's an appointment I can't cancel.
I weighed in again yesterday and lost 1.5 pounds. For the month of Jan. had a total loss of 4.5 pounds. I lost about 1/2 in thighs, hips, and waist, but lost a inch in bust...:carrot: It's that back fat around the bra strap that I really want to lose. I'm still journaling which is making me realize what all I am eating. If i eat bad, I write it down. I had one day at work, where I was so stressed I think if I would had a big bag of candy, I would of eaten it. Lucky I was offsite and they only had cheese crakers..(ate those). But the time I got home I was somewhat relaxed. I'm only buying healthy foods, so on days like that I can't come home and pigout.
Ok ladies - Any goals for this month? Any challenges? Drinking water, Minutes of Exericse... Come on??? anyone...
02-03-2007, 06:51 PM
CAT~~so sorry to hear about your dog...we had ours for 14 years and boy is that hard news to hear from the vet. We had similar thing, were told after she broke a leg that she had bone cancer (and thus more things would just keep breaking) and pain would soon come to her. So we had to decide to do it b4 the pain started for her. Very very hard. And she was like our kid, since we don't have kids. You hang in there and know we are here for you!
1DAY~~yea! way to go on the wt loss. Great #'s on the new lower measures for your body! YGG ~~Keep up the journaling and i totally agree that just not having the 'bad' stuff in the house(or at work) helps. I just don't have anything to go crazy with when the mood is there. I have that high cocoa chocolate. (70% cocoa pwdr) and i have a bite of that if i need something at night. I don't have it daily, only about once a week and that soothes my cravings.
My challenge for Feb will be WALKING! getting it done, even if it has to be in those increments like DR.Oz says still help. So today b4 work i did 15 mi, and now b4 supper I did the other 15. And take it a baby step at a time and see if i can't add on the other exercise he says to do(some wt lifting for the bone, and some stretch type). I weigh in Monday w/my friend from back home checking up on me and vice-versa. We usually IM each other that morn. It does help to report it to someone!
Good day to all, and Happy Superbowl Sunday tomorrow.
May it be a good game. That is all i will say. I really would love to see them both win, but that ain't possible! They both deserve it so much.
Bye for now chicks~~

Hello Ladies -
OH, I had such high hopes for DA Bears.. It was exciting the first few minutes. Can't image having to play the biggest game of the year in the rain.
Thin - Let us know how your weigh in goes on Monday. You know it's all about taking baby steps. If you can't do the whole 30 minutes it's much better to do 15 min than nothing. What kind of cocoa do you drink? I thought about getting that dark chocholate, but I know me and I would eat it either way. The hardest for me is getting veggies in. I definitely need to work on that this week.
02-05-2007, 11:48 AM
:carrot: Down 3# this morn. :D Got to get me one of those tracking icons like you have 1DAY~~is is on this site or another?
Course this is not in 1 weeks time. Had bad TOM last week, and showed no loss, but i thought it should have. It's just now showing up on the scale.
That makes me feel very encouraged!
Got to go walking and then we are going to shop for a new gas grill. Had a junky charcoal one (small and bought used) and the briquettes are sooo expensive now, might just get the better gas one. With 3 burners. We've never had one w/the 3 controls, but we have used his mom's that is like that. Very nice to control the temp. on meats and such.
Well, everyone stay strong today, stick to plan and post soon. Together we can do this!
02-05-2007, 10:17 PM
Hello Ladies -
Thin - WTG on your 3 lb loss:carrot: I know it is so much easier sticking to a plan when we see results, BUT we need to remember if we're doing the right thing eventually we see the results...Good luck on your grill shopping. I have a Weber, the small one and I just love it. I got the tracker here on this site. I will look and see where the instructions are.
02-05-2007, 10:23 PM
Thin - Found it. Go to User CP and edit your signature. There you will find instructions..
02-06-2007, 07:43 PM
Just racing in and out. Sorry can't stop
I was going have some cyber cake when I went get my coffee organised, but Umm maybe I will pass since Jason has some Christmas cake in there - could be dangerous. Jason is our Lions club Christmas cake seller. He managed to sell 1994 cakes this year and now we get the benefit of the last six. At $10 each he has done well don'cha thunk??
Went out to dinner last night at the local Indian Taj Mahal - enterprising name, there is a Taj Mahal restaurant in just about every town I have been to on this planet.
This sure is a country of extremes. We are burning in the west and drowning in the north, still smoldering in the south and drought stricken in the east. No middle of the road over here.
Hello to all. Try to get back later to catch up on the happenings.
02-06-2007, 10:28 PM
We have Tropical Cyclone Nelson bearing down on us from the north. It may come to nothing, but the general consensus seems to be that if it continues on it's winning way we will be inundated and flooded again from tomorrow onwards.
Should this happen, you will understand why you don't hear from me for probably the best part of 3 or 4 days. We may well be without power, without roads and minus the odd building or two, if it turns really nasty. If it blows out to sea as it well might do, I'll be back on air tomorrow. In the meantime, those of us who were going home tomorrow have been reticketed onto today's flights and are leaving in a steady stream. I'm not one of them and I will be here at Fawlty Towers and doing my best to stay out of trouble and not go stark raving bonkers.
I'll be back whenever. Have fun.
02-06-2007, 10:56 PM
Shad - Yikes, Hope the storm goes out to see. Stay dry and be safe.
02-08-2007, 10:25 PM
Bringing us to the top!
02-10-2007, 08:18 PM
hey chicks~~just popping in to say HI to everyone.
SHAD~~hope the weather threat is past and you are safe and have power to get on the computer!
Weigh in on Monday again. Will check in then to update things.
1DAY~~~I think i got the wt.tracker figured out. thanks for the help to find it. How's things with you? I see i chose the same flowers as you! i didn't like too many of their choices, great minds think alike!
NITA~~where are you girl? hope you are home and all rested up from the trip. Pop in to let us know how you are doing.
CAT~~ how are things with you? Better I hope.
HALGAL~~weekend is here, we should be getting an uplifting post from you! I so look forward to them.
one more day of work, and i have 4 days to do whatever I want again. Might rain by tomorrow and into next week. Well, we did get one long motorcycle ride in on Thurs. It was quite hot in the valley (about80) so we drove up about 80 miles to the town of Payson. Very nice and refreshing(cooler temps). We like to wear the full leathers on the bike, so it is just nicer riding in 60 to 70 degree weather with all the garb on. And a helmet. There is no helmet law here, but we just do it. Feel safer.
Bye for now!
02-10-2007, 09:13 PM
Hey Movers and Losers!
Goodness, it is cold, cold, cold here! Yesterday was our 13th day of temperatures below freezing. We are due to break 32 degrees tomorrow, for one or two days and then back into the deep freeze. We were out of school 5 days in the last 2 weeks! This is a first in my teaching career. I guess it is just too cold to chance the students being stranded on the side of the road for any length of time. It is cold!
Good news, I finally broke through the 12 pound loss barrier to a new total of 13 pounds off total - 1.8 off this week. I have been going back and forth the last 2 months with a few pounds maintaining my 12 pound loss since August. Now, to move on and down, down, down. Lucky 13! I walked this afternoon inside a mall, and did not spend a dime. It's all good. LOL
I reordered Hal Ketchum's new CD at amazon dot com UK because they reduced the price! It should be shipped this week. Did I mention, it is all good this week? :o
THIN: I made the spinach recipe this week, and it is really very good. I still have most of the can of cannelloi beans left, but that is not a huge problem. I think next time I'll add a few more. You mash them, and they are not really noticeable - but add both protein and fiber to a great recipe. I put the left over spinach mixture in a plastic container, and made quick quesadias for dinner tonight, again. Yum. Good to hear you wear a helmet always on your motorcycle. Also, good to hear you received my holiday card. I had to send it to your other address, and knew it would take awhile to get to you! I use a George Foreman grill inside, and love it. It is my 3rd one, I wear them out! Congratulations on YOUR 3 pound loss. :carrot:
OneDay: Most of my family live in Indiana, so I think they were for the Colts last week. Too much rain, too much stress, but hey I did enjoy Purple Rain with Prince! Let's Go Crazy!! I really like some of his stuff. LOL I'll keep an eye of lower carb recipes and post one if I use one that is good. If you like quesadias and spinach - that one is really, really good and low in calories. You know I know JUST what you mean about stress and eating an entire bag of chocolate. Today at WW they had the cutest red and white bags made with a variety of WW chocolate products inside, all for $16.50. I would rather have a nice bag of Dove, for $3.00 and stretch it out. The truth. Adds more cash in my account, and tastes not to be matched by any WW product. LOL Congratulations on both your weight loss and loss of inches. Way to go! :cp:
CatLover: I bet you had a tuff week. I have a close friend that lost her 14 year old Yorkie this week, on it's birthday! Our pets become our family, and the loss is real. Thinking of you this difficult week.
Mooz and Nita, all the best to you, quick lurking and post. LOL ;)
Happiest of Valentines Day to each of you! Enjoy your favoirite chocolate, in moderation...:val1: :val3: :val1: :val3: :val1: :val3: :val1: :val3: :val1: :val3: :val1: :val3: :val1:

Hello Ladies -
Trying to keep my eating on plan. Last week was a really stressful week, plus it's TOM. I am craving everything. I want the sweets, the cake , the candy. I think alot of it is stressed. Work has been very busy.
Thin - WTG on the 10 lb loss. Now is that loss from the Dr Oz diet? Speaking of Dr. Oz, he suppose to be on Oprah tomorrow (Tue,2/13).
HAL - WTG girl on your 13 lb loss. I"m like you I just can't seem to get past this 7/8 lb marker. I think I need to up my cardio for a week or two to get past this.
Shad, Mooz, Nita & Cat - Hope to hear from you all soon.
02-13-2007, 12:20 AM
I'm back, got rid of the wind, rain, cyclones, stuff and now it is just hot. Yesterday got to 39C (about 108F) that's hot and the humidity was very trying as well. Today is better but not by much. and I am wearing heavy gear because I have been out on the plant.
Still trucking along on the CSIRO wellbeing eating plan. Now lost 2.9K Near enough six pounds. It'll be interesting to see if the loss keeps up.
Well done to those who have lost weight recently. Big :cp: :cp: :cp:
Be back later.
02-14-2007, 03:24 PM
Happy Valentines Day
Movin and Losin Ladies!!!
02-14-2007, 05:26 PM
Aw shucks Halgal, lovely pic. Thanks for the wishes. Hope you get some hugs for yourself.
02-15-2007, 10:06 PM
hey chicks~~ just bumping us up to the top. Weigh in was pretty sad. It appears i gained the 3 # back again. Well, something just seems strange there...hopefully it's just water-wt. SALT probably. Well, Monday is not that far off again, and with work for 3 days i don't eat that much in the middle of the day, so i can only hope i go right back to the 160! Wish me luck.
Hope you all had a wonderful Valentines' Day! Thanks HALGAL for that cute pic.
02-16-2007, 10:16 PM
Hello Ladies -
Had my weigh in yesterday and lost another 2 lbs. I'm really surprised with that with all the candy I ate this week. Next week i'm going to bump up my exercise by 1 class. Not much going on this weekend. Oh, I have to take a defensive driving class tomorrow (6 hours) got a ticket back in Dec and trying to avoid the insurance increase.
Hal - saw on the news where you all are getting lots of cold weather. It's been cold here but luckily that all. Thanks for the cute picture.
Thin - I know it's frustrating with the gain, but keep remembering your doing everything right. Ups and downs are bound to happen. Keep working your program.
Shad - Glad to hear you got home safely. I can't believe how hot it is there. The Northeastern part of the US is having very bitter cold and lots of snow. What are we doing to our planet?
02-18-2007, 09:51 PM
Hello Ladies -
Just brining us to the top. Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend.
02-19-2007, 11:56 AM
Hey chicks~ just popping in to update on my Monday weigh-in. Good news....i got off 2 of the 3 # that i had regained. So i feel pretty good about that. Up and downs do happen and i have to remember that.
My mother sent me valentines chocolates and i did not do the right thing and give them away...so little at at time i've been eating them. DH eats a few caramels a week, where-as I eat 2 a day. I wish i didn't even open them now. That is a weakness for sure.
Got to get back to eating only dark choc. on occasion and walking and drinking that water!
Where are you 'NITA and MOOZ?? miss you guys!
Hi to all the rest of our regulars. Hope you can post soon.
02-19-2007, 03:50 PM
I know I have been absent way too long. I sure was lucky I picked the two weeks I did to go back to Ohio and PA. The last few days I was in PA I came down with some kind of stomach flu. Then after I got home Eugene got a real bout with some kind of flu which finally subsided yesterday. The whole week was disastrous because I had so much clean-up to do from his illness. Now I have resumed my stomach problems--a whole lot of indigestion. I do believe if I get back on track some of these problems will go away. It seems I am fighting going back to eating correctly.
I had a wonderful time seeing my children, grandchildren and sisters back home and can hardly believe I have gone and come back. I now am working 1-1/2 days a week because the other woman quit for a full-time position.
It looks like most of you are doing quite well and perhaps some of your energy will rub off on me. I am still bowling but even as I am writing this post I do not feel well. Perhaps I need to go see my doctor. However, at this point I really want to change doctors and I just might look into that today.
Have a great week!
02-19-2007, 11:05 PM
Hello Nita -
Glad to hear you had a wonderful time visiting all your family. I'm so sorry to hear Gene came down with the flu bug. Glad you all are starting to feel better. Don't overdo it. Take your time into easing back into exercise. Eat lots of fresh fruits (Oranges, strawberries), lots of vitamin C to help you gain your energy. I truly think if you not happy with your doctor then by all means change. Find one who listens to your needs.
Took today off, ran lots of errans. I'm sure tomorrow will be a busy day at the office. Hope everyone is doing ok.

Bringing us to the top
02-26-2007, 11:08 AM
Hey, where is everybody(me included! LOL) We have stayed on page 2 awhile so i'd better start off w/a post.
Good to hear from you 'NITA. Don't those vacations just fly by? I'm sure all your family was so happy to have you there. Are you and Gene feeling better now? I hope things are back to normal. Weather is very slow to warm up in this 'valley of the sun'....but we still have gotten to ride the motorcycle a bit. I'm sure it will be more in March.
My weigh-in was today and no losses shown...but no gains either, and i haven't been walking like i should so i totally can see it staying the same. I will do my best to try to get back to it. Starting today. Going to eat fish at least twice this week. Already have it bought ...tilapia and salmon. Going to buy some more veggies this week.
1DAY~~how is your plan going? Hope you are well.
Everyone else....please pop in! we miss you!
02-27-2007, 09:38 PM
Went out of town this past weekend. Went to a wedding shower. Unfortunately, or fortunately there was lots of food. It's so hard to get back on track. I want it all. I'm still keeping up with the exercise. My goal was to add a class this week. So far I haven't.
Thin - How do you plan on cooking your fish? Do you buy it fresh or frozen? That is something I need to do to. If you have any cooking tips please share them. Growning up we never really ate fish at home other than Long John Silvers. :)
Hope everyone is doing ok. Hope to hear from you all.
02-27-2007, 11:52 PM
Just a brief drive through from here. We are frantically busy at work and I am still setting up my new computer at home so no internet there yet.
Also very busy planning, booking and organising my trip to the States and Canada in June. So far I am arriving in LA on 23rd May, and leaving San Francisco on 29th June and in the middle, will be in Arizona and New Mexico for the end of May, Tennessee (Memphis) 1st week in June, New Jersey and NY by 2nd week in June and then to Canada. The last week in Canada will be doing the Rockies train trip. Lots of $$$$$ but hey, you can't take it with you. Then a couple of days in San Fran and home. Lots to fit in and see and do.
Better go do some work or I may never get there.
03-03-2007, 08:28 PM
Hello Ladies -
Had my end of month weight in and I gained 1 lb. I started to ask why, but then thought to myself.. Hum... you haven't journaled in over 2 weeks, you eaten lunch out 5 times, you eaten dinner out 10 times... I think I know why. This month I"m going to really tighten down, or whatever it's called. But I will lose 5 lbs this month. That is my goal.
Shad - my you are going to have a really busy vacation. Are you going to be driving once you get in states or flying?
Hope everyone is having a good weekend. Hope to hear from you all.
03-03-2007, 08:48 PM
There will some driving but not a lot. Mostly in Arizona and New Mexico and maybe in some rural parts of Canada. You lot drive on the wrong side of the road!!!!! It makes things difficult
03-05-2007, 11:36 AM
Hi Chicks~~Sorry i've not been posting much. As with 1DAY, I too have not been following plan that well. Pretty hard to see losses if we don't stay on track. I don't even want to weigh in today! Plus it's TOM, so who knows what that water retention brings.
As to the fish I did do that right at least. But ate out at Chinese buffet last night...ate lots of shrimp, but some weren't cooked low-fat for sure! Today is a new day. Back to the fish...you asked about. I usually buy tilapia(froz. fillets) and press some of those japanese bread crumbs onto them and saute them in as little EVOO (extra virgin olive oil) as i can. A sweet potato goes real good with fish. I just nuke one big one and DH and i share it. Been getting good fresh asparagus lately too....sometimes i'll steam that in a pan and then add a touch of olive oil and some chopped almonds at the end and get those nuts toasted a bit. Adds alot to the asparagus.
As for the salmon the best way is to put generous amount of lemon-pepper seasoning and sometimes a bit of dried dill, wrap them in foil and bake or grill till done. That way they don't get dried out.
SHAD~~have a great & safe trip, and watch out for us crazy U.S. drivers ---on the wrong side! LOL:D Must be hard to switch, as it would be for us if we came there. I will be long gone from Arizona when you get here, it is pretty warm already by end of May into June so be prepared.
Where is everyone else???? HalGal???? Mooz??? Nita???? what is up with you guys? i sure hope to hear from more chicks soon.
03-06-2007, 04:20 AM
Hi chickies .... thought I should drop in just to let you know I am still alive :carrot: ..... I have been on the computer very little recently as I had a chronic subconjunctival hemorrhage in my right eye. It came suddenly one morning early in January and there are still traces of it yet. I was off work for 2 weeks and had to go about with sunglasses on as my eye looked terrible.:( :fr: ...... I am trying to do as little computer stuff as possibel as that does not help. I am using a computer at work so that is probably enough for me!
I am still on blood pressure medication and have had to really cut out the "bad foods" as they do not help anything at all. I have got my weight down to 153 pounds but the nurse I am attending for my BP says I should be about 133 pounds :carrot: :carrot: Since I have been with her and cut out the rubbish, as well as losing some weight, my cholesterol has gone dowm from 6.5 to 5.2 ...... she wants it to go down to at least 4.5 .... so I have still got more work to do on that. I can get my BP down at home with my wrist monitor but when I am in the Health Centre I have White Coat Syndrome :?:
Gotta go now but I hope to check in again soon ....
Take Care all

I just erased what I had already written. Every so often this happens. I, too, am not doing very well when it comes to dieting. I do very well until late afternoon and then for some reason I get the munchies. I read on this website about the new diet pill-Orlistat-that has just been approved by the FDA. Perhaps I will have to check them out.
Gene has a sore on his ear and it would not heal so I finally got him to the PCP and he took a biopsy. It turns out he has basic cell cancer and hopefully it can be taken care of by radiation. The doctor must not be too concerned because we can't get in to see the radiologist until the 27th of March.
I am still bowling 3 to 4 times a week and working two days downtown. I try to stay busy but sometimes I feel I get stressed because of it.
I am still having my stomach problems and I do believe it is related to stress and not eating the right food. When I have my physical the end of the month I am definitely going to insist my PCP check to see if I may have celiac, the disease my daughter was diagnosed with. It means you are allergic to anything with "wheat" and almost all types of food have some kind of wheat added to them, especially processed foods.
Shad, perhaps when you are in Phoenix you can give me a call and we can meet in person. Thin and I were lucky enough to meet each other and it really makes writing more personable. You can send me an e-mail and I will give you my phone number.
Well I had better get moving. Take care all and have a "terrific" weekend!

Hello Ladies -
Had my weight in today, no measuring, and I gained another 1lb. I know it's because I have just been eating and not journaling. I have got to get back on track. Last week I blamed it TOM and that didn't even come...I"m so frustrated... All I want to do now is eat.
Nita - Since work is stressful, have you thought about quitting that job? Maybe find something not as stressful? I'm glad you keeping up with your bowling, that is a good stress releiver.
Mooz - So sorry to hear that you had problems with your eye. I do hope your getting better and will keep you in my prayers. WTG on your weight loss. Just take it a day at a time.
Thin - thanks for the baking tips on the fish. I do need to try them. Have you seen the PBS program "You on a diet". It's 25 steps of the program, and it's been done by the other dr. , not Dr. Oz. I caught part of it and it's scheduled to show here again on saturday night. Might want to check your local PBS station.
we'll I"m out for the night. Tomorrow I have vowed to get back on track..
Hope to hear from everyone soon..

Hey Chicksters~~ not much happening at our site..and i'm not much better about posting. Getting my mom and dad to fly out here to AZ and taking a trip to Vegas so i probably won't be posting much for 2 wks. Haven't gained any weight back yet...but w/all the cleaning b4 getting the company i guess i haven't had time to over eat. But i'm worried about the food in Vegas. Well, hopefully all the walking will even that out too. I guess it takes about as long to lose the 30# as it does to put it on! just gradually not noticing the gains, and now it's the same for the weight loss.
1DAY~~no i did not know about the PBS show. Thanks for updating me. I will try to see if it's on here. Perhaps look it up on their web site? Hope you can get into a good groove again soon w/your workouts and journaling. I know how much of a bear it can be tho. You stay strong!
NITA~~Hope you are feeling better now. And that the radiation for Gene takes care of it. Sending  hugs and prayers your way.
CAT~~What is up with you? Miss you
MOOZ~~ glad you could pop in...wow, that eye thing sounds scary. Hope they get this under control for you. I still smile when i read about your 'white coat syndrome'...since i have that too. Why do we react like that? i have really been keeping watch over my sodium intake and i think that is helping immensely w/my #'s. I don't buy any pre-pkgd lunchmeats anymore. I make or buy a chicken and eat that in sandwiches. or make a roast (beef or pork) and use that for the week, etc. I watch how much cheese i consume also, as i just realised the sodium is high in that too! And now with my salads I only have olive oil and balsamic vinegar on them and they don't have any sodium! i was so happy to find that out.
SHAD~~are you on your trip now?
And a special shout-out to our missing HALGAL~~miss your posts so much.
Well, I will still try to post b4 we leave for Vegas.
03-13-2007, 10:49 PM
Thin - OH, your so lucky getting to go to Vegas. Where do your parents live?I caught part of the program again on PBS. I too will go to web site and see when it comes again.
As for me still trying to get back onto the food program. I'm still exercising, cause I know if I quite for a few days then that will be it for me. But I'm just having a hard time with the food.
Ok ladies, Spring is coming soon and before you know it, IT will be summer. Let's get moving...Anyone up for any challenge...
03-13-2007, 10:53 PM
Shad - As you get your vacation dates more defined let me know when you be in New Mexico. Whereabouts where you planning on going? I'm planning a trip there, but it's still up in the air at this time.
03-14-2007, 09:23 PM
Bringing us to the top!
Hope everyone is having a great day!
03-16-2007, 07:08 AM
Hello Ladies -
Had my weigh in today, Lost my 2 lbs I gained the last two weeks.:carrot: I have recommitted to journaling. Looking at my numbers, I have lost 10 pounds since I started working out in September. I'm so pumped up...yea :):carrot:
03-17-2007, 12:13 AM
YEAH ~~1DAY~~good job on the wt.loss. YGG:carrot: :carrot: :carrot: Yes, we know we can do this. Just gotta (mostly) stay on plan. Vegas will have it's pittfalls(buffetts!) but one does do alot of walking to get around.
My parents live where i live for most of the year (MI) But we have been wintering in AZ for a few yrs now, and they had not been able to get down here. This year w/the Vegas condo they were real interested in making this happen. And my dad has his 2 new knees...so he is in good condition.
Going well here in AZ, but hotter than ****! I guess it's like 3 weeks ahead in the temps. Don't like it since we have no air cond. in this trailer...but the 2 bed /2 bath condo will be like heaven.
Stevie NIcks is at the Caesars Palace when we are there...still thinking of getting tickets to go since it's not sold out. Not my parents kind of music, but we decided we won't be doing everything together anyway. Just so they keep the phone# to the shuttle service we won't worry about them (too much! ) It has to turn around at some point doesn't it...kids worrying about parents instead of vice-versa! LOL
well, i will be able to check in while i'm away. So everyone please post an update would cha?
Miss you all,
03-20-2007, 06:17 PM
Nita, I will be in Phoenix for the morning of the 24th of May. Then I drive to Chino Valley. I'll be in touch closer to the date. I have your address I think from my Christmas card list.
Nothing happening here except that I have now lost 4.0kilos on this diet. Slow but steady. I'm over halfway to my new year resolution to lose 10% of my body weight.
Gotta go do some work. I'll be back.
03-21-2007, 09:42 PM
Thin - I just love Stevie Nicks, hope you were able to get tickets. It's been about 10 years since i've been to Vegas. I know they have so many new hotels to see. Hope your having fun. Win Big...
Shad - WTG on your weight loss. I'm learing it truly is a slow process but then again I didn't gain all this at once. When do you plan to be in New Mexico? Where abouts to do you plan to visit there?
As for me still working out. It's jus so hard to get back on track with the food. Hope to see a loss this friday at my weight in and measuring.
03-22-2007, 02:06 AM
last night in Vegas. Got the wireless to work in a certain part of our room, so i'm posting a quick HELLO!
We did see Stevie Nicks at Caesars Place. FANTASTIC show. DH and I were really into the show. DH thought she might have gained a few # back, but i didn't think so. Her blond hair was just so straight and long and perfect. When they showed footage of her in the 80's, I still feel she looks better now. She was so strung out usually in her youth and the frizzy hair look is not as good as what she wears now. At 60 yrs old she looks fantastic.
She started off with Stand Backand Gold Dust Woman. Did a few of her songs that she had done w/Tom Petty. She had Waddy Watchell(sp) her long time guitarist help her w/the vocals on those ones. Excellent nearly 2 hour show. Well, all I can say about my parents is they don't care about the big eats, they like the gambling. So i did not overeat. One day we got them to do alot of walking, but they really couldn't do it much. So they only saw a very small bit of the wild city of Vegas. Oh well, they got what they wanted in.
Heading back to AZ tomorrow morn. I will check in soon. Stay strong chicks!
03-23-2007, 07:35 AM
Hello Ladies -
Thin - sounds like you had a great time. I can't believe Stevie is 60, I just love her voice. I have a mixed Christmas CD and she sings Silent Night. OH, it just wonderful, I can listen to her sing that song anytime. Have a safe trip home.
Weighed in this morning and no change, which is good. Measurements are next week, hope to see some changes there. Going to a wedding this weekend, and I"m sure I'll have cake. Need to be good the rest of the time.
Hope everyone is doing ok. Hope to hear from everyone soon.
03-27-2007, 08:27 PM
Wow, not much going on in here! Hope everyone is doing ok.
As for me went to San Antonio for the weekend, went to a wedding. I actually did pretty good on my food with the exception of the cake. Ate a really big piece. Was very good. This friday is my weigh in and measurement day, hopefully I will see good results.
03-27-2007, 09:48 PM
Just a quick note of hello to let everyone know I am fine, and still working at the saga of less of me! LOL I am at 14 pounds down since August, and it is such a challenge. I know small progress is better than any kind of gain.
I had my computer updated and lost all of my passwords, but we all know it does not take a month to recover them. So, I won't begin to use that as an excuse. I am just so suprised at how little it takes to side track me. Yes, I am busy, but not that busy?
I'm watching Dancing With The Stars this evening... love that show. I rarely watch television, but this one I do tune in for.
Thank you to all for continuing to post and it is good to hear you are all doing well. I'll post more routinely, I promise!!!!
03-27-2007, 11:08 PM
Progress is being made on my trip - which is why I haven't been posting as often although I have to say that I don't have the internet at home and have to do this at work - therefore posts tend to be short.
I've had to change a few of my plans for the holidays due to budget and time constraints. Won't be overnighting in Dallas now and it is doubtful whether I will get to New Mexico. I was going to Farmington (NW) but can't seem to get in touch with my friends there, so I have a car and will tour Az instead.
Flights are booked from LA to Phoenix and Phoenix to Memphis. Next step is Memphis to New York and then onto Canada.
Time to go back to work. Catch up again soon.
03-28-2007, 11:58 AM
Good to hear from a few more of you. Good news from Vegas : did not let them take all my money and I did not gain any weight. Now to get to losing a few #'s.
~~~1DAY~~~Oh, I looked it up and it appears I jumped Stevie Nicks up by 1 yr. Next May she will turn 60. I wasn't sure, but i thought i heard she already turned. Anyway, that was money well spent in Vegas. The sound in an auditorium like that was perfect for her. Well, i'd love to see about anyone there. I am going to keep watch for tours in the future (when we are here in the SW). It's a 6 hr drive but we can get a room off the strip and do it that way. Plus every seat is a good seat in that place.
Let us know about the measurements on Fri. , and don't worry about the wedding cake. You can burn that off easily. Glad you had a good time at the wedding. How long does it take you to get to San Antonio?
~~HALGAL~~ First time for me watching the dancing show. kind of fun w/those stars that they have this time.
And congrats on the 14# loss since Aug. YGG:carrot: :carrot: Slowly we will rid ourselves of this wt. that is dragging us down. Glad your 'puter is back and all your passwords too. Hate when things like that happen. I keep a paper notebook on them too. Just don't trust these machines that well! LOL
~~~SHAD~~~ good luck w/the trip planning. You will rent cars in different locations then? And what day do you leave? Hope you will try to find librarys to post and pop in occ. Or wherever they offer public computers. I know alot of libraries have them.
Where are all our other chickies gone? Spring is springing and we want updates on all of you.
03-31-2007, 04:39 PM
Hello Ladies -
Didn't make it to my friday morning workout. I had a meeting I had to go to and need to leave pretty early. I could of made this morning's class but had way to many errans to run. We have been getting lots of rain here, which is really needed, but the storms that come are bad.
Hal - Glad to hear from you and WTG on the 14lb loss. It's ok that it's taken awhile, you sticking with it. That's the thing.
Shad - OH, I'm sorry no overnight stay in Dallas. I would of tried to meet up with you. If plans change let me know. Not sure how far Memphis is from here.
Thin - It's a 4 1/2 to 5 hour drive. Can be longer, lots of construction on the highway. When my parents go with me, it sometimes takes longer, I try to break up the drive with breaks. I might be planning a trip to Vegas this Dec. If I go I"ll let you know. How close is your home to Phildelphia? I might be planning a trip there this summer.
Ok Ladies - another month is upon us and for the month of March I did not lose any weight. Office weigh is Monday, but I know. I have got to get back to my eating plan, my journaling and to my "Not eating out".
Is anyone up for any challenges? walking, drinking water, journaling.
04-02-2007, 09:38 AM
Good Monday Morning Ladies!
I took a personal day today, for me! You have no idea how good this feels. I slept until I wanted to get up, the sun is out, it is warm and I have a day to do as I wish. I've been working 10 to 13 hour days for a month, including one or two weekend days - and it simply is time to recoup. With all of those crazy hours you can imagine I have many things that need to be taken care of, and some of them will today.
More good news, I am .2 of a pound under a 15 pound weight loss. I am averaging a half a pound a month. Yeah real slow, but when you have been overweight all of your life, anything in the negative direction that is consistant is a good thing. I was so excited after my weigh in on Saturday, but too tired to enjoy it. I actually drove home to nap. I slept in yesterday morning and I knew it was time for a me day - too tired, or as my dear Grandmother Preuster use to say 'Too pooped to pop!', funny huh. The things we remember as the years pass.
OneDay: Hope your Monday weigh in was a good one for you. I think if I make an effort to drink water routinely and journal, the rest of the stuff comes around naturally. The more fruits and veggies I eat, the more I lose. The trick is to plan for my meals, snacks and the rest once again, falls into place. I saw a neat thing about keeping small bottles of water and a few 100 calorie packs of snacks in your car glove box. If you are thinking of a drive through, make it for a cup of ice for your water only!
THIN: Stevie Nicks reminds me of my college days. I have sirrus radio in my new Jeep, and listen to a channel called the bridge which plays music from the 70's and 80's, on the mellow side. I also listen to a few of the talk radio shows on sirrus, pretty neat. I made stuffed red peppers not long ago. They were on sale for .99 each, so I grabbed a few. They were so good! LOL
SHAD: I don't know how you budget for a vacation like you are planning, but you should know gasoline is on the rise here in a serious way. It currently is .11 cents higher a gallon than it was last year, with projections of more increases. It tends to increase other costs, but those take a while to take effect.
Nita: Good to hear you are back. I am sure Gene is glad to have you back. How are you doing now?
Mooz: OK, how far did you chase my man, Hal Ketchum around the venues and managers homes? LOL He is home now, but playing no where near central Kentucky. Oh well...
I am also a big Martina McBride fan. She has a new CD coming out tomrrow, and will be on the Today show. Maybe another free day? I could only be so lucky, but know better!!! I'll enjoy the day, today. I hope you guys have a great Monday also.
04-02-2007, 09:06 PM
Good evening Ladies,
We'll I didn't get measured today, I think she forgot and you know me... I knew the numbers were up so I figured I have two days to get something off. It sure was hard going back, it's only been 4 days but it was hard. Journaling and drinking my water today.
Hal - Good for you on taking a "ME" day. I just love those. When I can afford it I also like to get a massage in on those days. WTG on your 15 lb loss. Ok. less .2. That is great. Any weight loss is good. Take it at your pace. Is Oprah on the Sirrus stations or the other one?
Does anyone here have laminate floors? Any thoughs on them, yea, or na? Thinking of getting that on my living room and dining room floors.
04-02-2007, 10:33 PM
Hey chicksters~~ wanted to pop in to give an update too. I have gotten off that nasty pound and am at an even 160 now. I am going to try to move more and drink that water too, 1DAY~~ I am ready for the new month of April and a new challenge. Lets make sure to post our daily ups and downs.
I am not close to Philly really, and the Vegas trip might not work out cause of right now we are planning to come down to AZ in Jan sometime. We rotate Christmas' in both places. But check with me just in case your or my plans change.
My DH and i will be celebrating our 31st anniversary tomorrow...and the sweetie thought of something nice. Since it's so hot here w/o air cond. and it's only about 4 to 5 hours to drive to Laughlin he said for us to look for a room there. Found a good deal online at one for 2 nites, 2 free buffets and 2 free cruises on the Colorado river. (well, i think they mean 2 people--but it's still good) for 2 nites $99. So i booked that and we leave early tomorrow. Got all the packing set, wasn't hard for only 2 days, and am anxious to get outta this 90 + degree weather that the valley is having. I think it might be a little cooler by the riverside? At least we know we will be in air cond. most of the time. Like walking the riverfront on that sidewalk they have. So i will try not to eat too much wrong stuff and move alot and it should be fine. I will bring the laptop and should be able to drop in and post too.
Also we really want to see that comedy 'wild hogs'...so there is always theaters there to go to. Less slot machines now that my mom and dad aren't with us. More site-seeing and moving. So i am very happy to go. Done working now anyway.
HALGAL~~so good to hear from you. You guys should check out this video of Stevie singing Angel back in the 70's. Well ,it's a bit of a documentary, but pretty cool. Here is the link on myspace vids.
If anyone wants to see my page just IM me and i will link you up with that. I have fun w/the music avail. on that site. And i have my nieces and some pals to catch up with also. So far i like it. I'm sure it can be troublesome for some, but i watch who i add.
Glad you are able to take a ME day! you deserve it. And so good to hear from you again! missed ya. Glad you found a deal on red peppers. I haven't bought them in awhile, makes me want to do so soon! We have to start shopping less and using up what we have on hand now, and that gets to be a big chore. But it has to be done!
Everyone else...please post as we are getting worried about some of you....CAT.....NITA....what is going on with you guys? Miss ya.
04-03-2007, 10:53 PM
Hello Ladies -
Thin - WTG on getting to the 160 mark...OH, I"m sure you all will have fun on that cruise boat. Sounds like alot of fun.. Just remember when serving your plate, 1/2 veggies 1/4 carb (potato, corn) and 1/4 meat. And split the dessert. Have a great trip and Happy Anniversary!
04-06-2007, 01:07 PM
It's been some time since I have posted but things have been pretty hectic. Gene needs 20 radiation treatments for his ear. We have now completed 3 of them. I am finding it pretty hard getting him in and out of the car and handling the transport chair. However, I am doing my best.
Need to get ready for the 4th treatment.
Wishing all of you a VERY HAPPY EASTER!
04-06-2007, 10:49 PM
Hello Ladies -
Had my weight in this morning lost 2 lbs. Lost 10 lbs since the beginning of me working out, which was in Sept. When I think of it that way it's not much. But 10 lbs gone is 10 lbs.
Nita - So sorry to hear about Gene. Is there any one there who could help you once you get to his appointments? Will keep you all in my prayers.
Wishing everyone a Blessed Happy Easter.
04-07-2007, 11:24 AM
Good Morning Ladies,
I thought I would post a short note to let you know I survived one week of treatment for Gene. Four down and 16 to go. Perhaps he will not need all 16. I, too, have been watching Dancing With the Stars and this week I voted for the Speed Skater. Last week I voted for Joey. Who are your favorites?
HalGal, way to go on sticking to your program and being successful. By the way, what program are you following. I have been reading Bob Greene's book "The Best Life Diet" and have found it to be very interesting. It tells me the bottom line is calories in and calories out. My PCP said just cut out 500 cal. per day and I would lose 1 lb. per week. Due to all this stress at the moment, I have not really gotten into it.
As far as assistance when I get to the radiologist's office--there is none. It is up to me to get Gene in and out. I do have a transport chair which i can put behind my seat and they do have a handicap door to the main lobby but when it comes to the doctor's office itself, I always try to find someone I can ask to open the door for me. So far I have been lucky and no one has turned me down.
Shad, do call me when you are in Phoenix and I will try and meet up with you. I will e-mail my telephone number and cell number.
Take care all,
04-08-2007, 01:09 PM
04-08-2007, 04:06 PM
Good morning everyone, Happy Easter. Here we are at Easter Monday. It's the last day of our Easter celebrations.
Nita, I will certainly talk to you in Phoenix. I'll actually be around Arizona a lot more than I thought because I haven't heard back from the New Mexico friends so I won't be going to stop over with them. I come into Phoenix and leave from Phoenix. I'm going to be driving around the State and doing the tourist things there. We can talk or meet up sometime I am sure.
Weight loss continues slowly here. Up an down but mostly down in little losses. I suppose it took a long time to get there and it is going to take a long time to go away. I have to live as well during this journey so I'm not getting disheartened.
Tonight I go back to Townsville for the last 5 weeks of this project. Hard to believe but it will nearly be time for my holiday when I leave up there for good. I'll be driving that long drive home and stopping off with friends along the way.
Lots of things to do today so I suppose I should get off here and go do them. Otherwise I will be leaving a whole lot of unfinished chores.
Have a safe and blessed Easter.
04-15-2007, 10:24 PM
It sure has been quite in here. This past week was a very busy one for me. I had a several big contracts that we were in the process of negiotating. I came home tired every evening. Friday night we had some terrible storms. A tornado hit down about 1 hour away and what we thought was a tornado about 25 minutes away. The sirens went off in my area 3 times that evening. It was scary. But i'm ok and the house is ok.
Hope everyone is doing ok.
04-16-2007, 11:14 AM
Just a quick note to let you know I am surviving. Today will be the 10th radiation treatment. He probably needs 10 to 12 more to make sure the entire cancer is gone.
I am still not dieting but I do start off each day with a great breakfast--if only I could continue the rest of the day as well, I would be doing OK. I am also trying to exercise at least 20 to 30 minutes each day. The weather here in Phoenix is fantastic at the moment--but before I know it it will be very very hot!
04-22-2007, 12:03 AM
Hello Ladies -
Nita - I have been keeping you and Gene in my prayers. With all this stress it is so hard to concentrate on your diet. That is good your starting your day off with a good breakfast. Way to go for keeping your 20 minutes of exercise in. Anything helps..
Hope everyone is doing ok. Give us a update on what's going on in your life right now.
04-22-2007, 09:30 AM
What an interesting look at Earth Day as we begin to understand the extreme changes in our climate. For the last month I have gone from using air conditioning to heat in the same day, several times. Extreme temperature changes on a daily basis are becoming the norm.
I weighed in yeterday for the first time in 3 weeks, and I gained .6 of a pound. I consider that a victory! Now to once again really focus by maintaining a food journal, and increase physical activity. It only a numbers game, if we could only figure that out. LOL
One of my dear friends was just diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. After reading about it, I see only 1% of these paitients survive after one year. I am so sad for me, and her husband. Sad...
Hal has a new CD out, but it was only released in Europe. He is going to release a single here in the US. He will add LeeAnn Rimes to it, and they are shooting a video for it also. You guys may just be able to see him in action. The CD is very good. Naturally.. LOL
I picked up the new Allison Krauss CD, A Hundred Miles Or More. It is a compilation of some of her old duets and has 4 new songs. Also incredible.
I want an IPod. I've been shopping around, and whew they are expensive!
We are in school until June 10th due to 7 snow days. Our summer will be about 6 weeks long. If you factor in required training days, it comes down t a month if you have no other school commitments. Short summer, for sure.

In the end, I remembered how thankful she was for my dedicated part in her life - when everyone else walked. It is difficult to diet, especially if you are like me and use food as a medication.
OneDay: Always good to hear from you!
Shad: Your trip is coming up soon? Be ready for increasing gasoline costs here. If you are doing a lot of driving, it will make a difference.
Well girls, I hope everyone is doing just fine. Post when you can!!!
