I am in love with Sushi, Sashimi, Nigiri, etc. I can't believe that I didn't try it before. I want to eat it all the time! For lunch, for dinner, etc.

I never get any tempura, anything fried or anything like that. I use Wasabi and Soy Sauce and that's it.

Miso soup is fantastic as well!!

Anyone else here eat sushi too?

I'm just not sure how good it is for you. Is it "healthy lifestyle"/diet friendly?

I love sushi, too! :) I was like you - avoided it for ages and thought "blech!", then was finally coaxed into trying it one day.....I've been in love with it ever since!!

I love dynamite rolls and anything with spicy tuna or crab, but now I'll try almost anything, really.

Sushi is quite healthy - the fish is good for you, the seaweed is great, and the rice, while white, isn't a demon food....plus there really isn't that much of it, anyways. Almost all sushi is low-calorie (and back in the day when I was on WW, I recall the points were quite low), and low-fat to boot. As with anything, it is possible to go overboard, but I wouldn't worry too much about that :)

ETA that I love miso, too! DH and I often have a little bowl of miso soup in the afternoon - it's really easy to make at home, and is a great between meal snack. It's so full of flavour!

I was the same way....I thought, "Raw fish? GROSS!!!" I started by trying the california rolls. That was over a year ago. I was a little grossed out at first, but I think it was mental. DH and I went out for it 2 weeks ago and I got Nigiri and LOVED IT! I've gotten it twice since then.

Sushi is one of my favorite foods - we eat a fair amount of sashimi in particular. There are a couple things to look out for - some fish are higher than others in mercury levels. Bluefin tuna is pretty high, although it's one of the tastiest! Generally you should only have one meal of this type of tuna per week. the other thing to watch is the mayo in some rolls - most spicy rolls are made with a mayo sauce, so it's best to just have a few of those. Overall, though, sushi's a great way to get your omega-3's, and it's so tasty! I'd recommend trying oshitashi next time you're out for sushi - it's this awesome spinach salad that I can't get enough of.

I enjoy sushi too, and found this info is from www.hungry-girl.com:

RAW DEALS

Heads Up! Look out for the following words. They'll clue you in that you're about to order something not so diet-friendly...

"Tempura" - Tempura is basically Japanese for "batter fried." Tempura = a fatfest!

"Spider" - Spider rolls are usually greasy fried crab rolls. They sound good, but they really pack in calories and fat.

"Dynamite" - In sushi-land, the word "dynamite" basically means, "baked in a sea of gooey mayo." Skip it!

"Crunch" - Yet another cute & clever way of saying "fried & fatty."

I am definitely a sushi lover. I was lucky to grow up eating it so I didn't need to worry about the raw (gross) factor as an adult.

The rice is one thing to be careful of. One of the things that makes it so sticky (besides being glutinous by nature) is that they add sugar to it to prepare it for sushi.

My favorite side dish is a sesame wakame (seaweed) salad. I also really love eel, which is barbequed rather than raw. I would eat sushi a lot more often if it weren’t so expensive.

I've got to disagree with the word "dynamite" being synonymous with being "baked in a sea of gooey mayo" - not necessarily true, at least where I get my sushi! Dynamite rolls do typically have a spicy mayo spread in the middle, but the rolls I get have such a thin spread that I have never been able to even see the mayo - it's very kicked up with chili, though, so the spice is very present. Anyway - dynamite rolls aren't the biggest calorie bargain, but they don't have to be that bad, either. It can vary a LOT from place to place!

The other thing to remember is that in something like a dynamite roll, while you are getting a fried shrimp in the middle, often the way the rolls are sliced you're actually getting little more than half a shrimp per piece. If you eat a lot of dynamite rolls only, that's not great - but having a few pieces mixed in with other stuff isn't anything to worry about, as the calories are still very reasonable. Just wanted to mention that as there's no real reason to avoid something like a dynamite roll, you just have to be reasonable with your portions. ;)

I  sushi too, but definitely avoid the ones with mayo and fried shrimp (though they sure are :T ) Here's a link to some sushi nutritional facts that I use as a guesstimate for what I'm eating (since every sushi place is going to be different): Sushi Nutrition Chart (http://www.afcsushi.com/pages/nutrition05.html).

We're going out for sushi tomorrow, I'm taking my dh and his daughter (21) who has never had it before. I think I was about 12 when I had sashimi for the first time, so I never had that ugh! raw fish! thing. It's my favourite treat meal, and healthy too (as compared to other things I could have for a treat meal!!!)

I have started LOVING sushi just recently as well! A friend and I go and share a few rolls, I must admit some do have the mayo and the fried stuff but I skip the soya sauce! haha

Did you ever have a food that you REALLY wanted to like, but didn't? Sushi is that food.

I have tried it SO many times, in so many different ways, with so many different varieties. So frustrating, because I really WANT to love it (the concept is so great, the ingredients are all things I like, and its a great social activity AND a restaurant setting where healthy choices abound!).

Sad.

I love sushi also.

Its quite filling because the rice is cold and therefore a resistant starch which makes you fill fuller for longer.

love love love love it.

I lived in Japan for a couple of months in 04 and wanted to live at the rotating sushi bar, where each piece was $1.00...

I also love miso soup and Japanese green tea, though both of these took longer for me to really "fall" for. Actually, I take it back, sushi took a bit of work too, as I had to get over the whole "raw fish" issue...

I love sushi, and I think a spicy roll will be my cheat meal this week. :chin:

I love sushi too! It's one of my favorite meals to eat out. Luckily, I'm not a big fan of sushi with mayo (that has got to be an American thing) or most fried sushi, so it's easy for me to stay away from that stuff (except for unagi, which I do have a weakness for). Just give me some raw fish and a little sushi rice and I am all set. My favorite sushi restaurant makes an awesome mango and hamachi roll.

We're going out for sushi tonight, in fact! I can't wait! I can already taste the mango and hamachi.

my husband and both love sushi - we eat it at least twice a week for dinner.

the restaurant where order take out even commented that we never change out order - miso soup, tuna tataki, pork dumplings, tiger roll, spider roll.
I told them why change; we know a good thing when we see it. I think I could eat it also every day. good to see I'm not the only one.:carrot:
