Well here we are into August! :faint:
It's way too hot here :flame: so I am just soaking up the a/c at work
I'm so excited to be going on vacation as of Saturday! I fly out to Indiannapolis on Tuesday and I am really looking forward to my trip and a break from everything.
08-01-2006, 06:50 PM
That sounds like a great trip! I hope you have a great time and have beautiful weather too.

Thanks virginia! :)

Have Fun Mauv! We had our heat wave last week and the week before. Looking at lo to mid 80's this week reaching 90 by the weekend and then going down again next week.
The crickets have already started which means an early fall and warm days followed by cool crisp nights.
My neices have been here since Sat. Staying in the cabin alone and cooking for themselves. They seem to be having a good time. Tonight we are going to the lake and having a BBQ there.
Tomorrow night I have another hill climb hike and the girls will have tacos with DH. Or DU to them (darling uncle). LOL
Friday is open so I need to think of something fun for us to do on their last day.
Going home this Sat.
We are planning an overnight hike back to grasshopper meadow probably the 19th. My friend said the wind goes through the trees at night and it sounds like they are singing. Cant wait. Since it is a short hike to the meadow, we will base camp there and go up to the cliffs and other sites from that point.
Better get back to work.:p

Sounds like you are having a lovely time with your nieces. :)
Well I've been putting of doing laundry because of the heat. The hydro company has asked that people not use their washing machines or dishwashers and to limit a/c use so that the power grids aren't overloaded.
I will have to get it done sometime on the weekend so I can pack.
It is still hot here though not as humid as yesterday.

So what's everyone up to this weekend?
We have a 3-day weekend up here and we plan to relax and hang out with some friends - basically have a low-key weekend.
08-05-2006, 12:52 PM
The girls are headed back to portland today - dropping them at the bus stop at 1130am.
I think they had a super time - I mean what teenager wouldnt love having a house to themselves for a week? Even though they found a couple families of mice living in the dressers and even a bull snake. I told them they should have let the snake stay since he would take care of the mice - but they were freaked and shooed him out the door. That was tuesday.
All tolled, they had a shopping trip, fireworks at the fair, we walked the creek, visited my baby horse, rode the big horses twice, the DN16 got a driving lesson, we went to the lake and rode the waverunners and swam, we BBQ'd, played on Myspace and they watched tons of movies and each read a whole book while they were here.
DN12 did all the cooking (super mature for her age) and they did a great job of cleaning up yesterday.
I imagine that next summer I will have them longer just because of the cabin helps us all get along. What with me not having any kids but being a professional aunt since age 8. Plus these two are cousins vs siblings so they get along really well, despite the age difference, but I am sure that is because DN12 is so mature and DN16 is a little less mature than your avg 16 yo.
While in Roseburg I will do some extra shopping since DH hunting coming up at the end of the month and I wont go again until labor day weekend.
Then tomorrow I have to get the laundry cleared out and put some videos on vhs for grads and weddings that I recently taped for friends.
Back to normal on Monday. Going to see Alice Cooper under the full moon on Wed at the fair in Roseburg. Walking on Mon and Thurs. Next weekend fairly light then overnite hike on the 18th & 19th.
Anyone else doing anything?
08-06-2006, 01:27 PM
I still haven't done the laundry!
I went out early yesterday to get my hair cut and spent 1/2 an hour browsing at a book store before choosing a new book.
DH and I then went out for lunch and some shopping in Chinatown. :)
We had our goddaughter staying with overnight on Saturday- she's about 8 and a great kid.
We had a lot of fun - DH got her to help him cook dinner and then we went for a walk, picked up some ice cream pops and ate them on the walk to the nearby lake. We fed the ducks, saw some fish and then walked among the city flower beds sniffing all the flowers and figuring out what our favorite ones were.
When we got home we watched a movie toghether until bed time.
This morning we watched cartoons while eating breakfast and then her grandma came to pick her up.
We're just relaxing at the moment but I have to pop out later to pick up a few things.
08-07-2006, 12:35 PM
Well I didnt accomplish a thing. After dropping off the girls - I spent 4+ hrs shopping in town then came home and just relaxed until dinner. Went to sleep early on Sat. Sunday I sent DH off to work at 11 am and then decided that since I had been so busy all week that I would just chill and catch up on doing nothing for a few hours.
Back to work today followed by a quick trip to Canyonville for horse grain, dog pool and the ATM. Tonight is my Hill climb walk. It is 2.1 miles to where we turn around so 4.2 miles total. The first 1 mile is all uphill and a steady 6-8% incline. Total butt and calf workout. Plus I carry my pack to get in shape for overnight hikes.
08-07-2006, 10:24 PM
Okay, laundry and packing got done this afternoon!
But I have to leave for the airport at 6:30 a.m tomorrow -
So I'll be having an early night.
I will be away for about a week but I will have access to a computer where I am so I will try to pop in to say hello. :)
Hope you all have a great week! :D
08-08-2006, 06:10 AM

Well I'm back from my holiday and a little travel weary. I had a great time, hung out with friends and stayed mostly op. :cb:
08-16-2006, 03:12 AM
welcome back mauv!
Well, I've been back and forth from the doctors office lately. I went in for cramping, numbing, stabby painful legs, and came out with a pre-diabetes diagnosis. How that happened, i'm still not sure.
I have lost 3 pounds in the last 2 weeks, which is a start. I am taking more tests to find out if I also have the ominous "syndrome x" which my mom has. Next week is a nutritionist who can tell me what I've been doing wrong.. and then hopefully I can start following some set guidelines to feel better.
I'm kind of annoyed with the whole pre-diabetes, I guess I'll have to do a little more research on it, because it kinda sounds like "a little bit pregnant" or something.. either you have it or not, but I'm sure I'm wrong.
We'll find out in about a week or so...
hope all is going better for the other chicks ...
08-16-2006, 02:04 PM
Hey Lizz- hope all goes well for you - I know what you mean - the doctors tell my aunt she is borderline diabetic - so basically her blood sugar is high but not at that OMG level. OF course now she takes meds for it and may be in denial.
I have been wondering if I might be - it does run in the family - becuase if I dont eat before I exercise - I get super light headed - and lately (not to be gross) but my sweat stinks - even if I just showered before hiking and I have never really had that issue before. I would sweat but not smell - unless it was hygene related - but lately - and if I can smell it - you know it is worse to everyone else. Ick!:p
It may just be that I am a late bloomer - or it could be too much protien in the diet - or just my system cleansing out the toxins and taking its time and it will pass if I keep up the water and sweating ritual. Since I loathe the medical profession - I doubt I will be getting a check up anytime soon - I will wait until I get sick - that is my way...LOL
08-16-2006, 03:13 PM
Lizziness - sorry to hear about your health problems. I think if you are prediabetic you can still do something to prevent becoming a diabetic. My friend was recently diagnosed and her doctor has ordered her to lose weight and eat better, more exercise etc. and is monitoring her for the time being.
I was diagnosed with high blood sugar when I was a kid and was told to cut back on sweets and products that had sugar in them. (ie. sugared treats, cereal, canned fruit etc.) and it turned out okay.
08-16-2006, 10:41 PM
Yeah, I'm not too worried. I mean, i will be taking it seriously, but i'm not worried about diabetes at this point. Mom has it, and syndrome x, and dad has diabetes, both my grandfathers as well, so it's only a matter of time unless i do something finally.
I'm more worried about the syndrome x at this point, because that could mean more problems... pcos, not being able to lose the weight no matter how hard i try, etc... I'm actually looking forward to talking to the nutritionist and learning what to do. Because diets just aren't working for me. I mean, they'll work, but then i get mad and stop following them.
pj - i didn't know that smelly sweat was a sign... i have noticed that this summer. but... then, maybe i was just buying the wrong deodorant. *LOL* It has been hotter in oregon this year too... :)
I'll find out in a week about the syndrome. Boy, it is not as easy to have blood taken before eating than after eating. i was so light headed, and honestly i have been pretty much all day a little... off feeling. bleck.
08-17-2006, 01:04 PM
Hey Lizz- the symtoms for diabetes comes up alot at the firehouse because often someone having a diabetic episode will appear drunk and so we have to know what to look for so we dont assume someone is just tipsy. And I beleive bad breath and smelly sweat are symtoms because your body is overloaded with ketones and they dont smell good. Web MD is a good place for more info.

I'm all excited, 24 hours until I go bog trotting/mud wading/paddling at Reading Festival :carrot: its Reading no 19 for me :D
08-22-2006, 04:43 PM
Hey Moo - sounds like loads of muddy fun! Are u going all three days? Too cool. Sometimes I wish I had the time to go concert hopping like before living together and marriage and jobs and animals and volunteering - not to mention being really lazy on occasion and no concerts like this in the boonies. LOL
I would like to coordinate something like this for our Fire Dept as a fund raiser - but that is another project for another time.:p
Can I live vicariously through you instead? Maybe send us some "wish you were here" photos?:dizzy:
08-22-2006, 10:39 PM
how old do i feel that i've only heard of like 1/3 or less of those bands... but... yay, flogging molly.
08-23-2006, 10:32 AM
Yup I'm off for the 3 days and the day before before *groans*. Its raining in the UK, its going to be muddy and I may be old but the day I can't make it to Reading or Glastonbury or any other festival is the day I roll over and die ;)
AJ - you're never to old/busy to do it - so do it its fun :) I'm a busy bunny most of the time but I've always got time for music :D
08-23-2006, 12:36 PM
Moo - that looks like loads of fun! :dancer: Give us a report on how it went so we can live vicariously through you.
Well, I've finally recovered from the convention I went to. I should have taken an extra day off work last week. But it's back to business as usual and I had a quiet weekend to myself to decompress so all is well. :)
I do need to get back to my exercise routine though so I am hoping to start my yoga classes again next week and my bellydance classes start in late September - I can't wait! :cb:
08-28-2006, 11:47 AM
Moo - I hope you had fun at the festival!
Lizzi - I hope this all works out for you!
Hi to Mauvais & AJ! And anyone else out there lurking.
I am back. I have had a crazy last few weeks. I was out in sunny CA for about a week. Right before that my nephew ended up in the emergancy room again for breathing issues. He is fine, but I had to leave for CA the next day, which wasn't easy. I did go and got to spend time with my boyfriend (it still makes me giggle to say that), and a bunch of girls from college I hadn't seen in years. We all had a wonderful time. The boy & I went to see Toad the Wet Sprocket. It was so much fun.
I can't wait to get a new job and move. (and I *still* can't believe I am going). I never thought I would be this excited. :) Work has been crazy lately, but I finally have a whole week to do nothing important! I am going to catch up on some documentation I have been meaning to write. And just try to get things together for when I leave. They already know I am on my way out. Just a matter of when.
I promise to try and check in more often. I have been reading - just haven't had the time to actually sit and type much. :p
08-29-2006, 10:55 AM
Hey there.. I'm *new* here and just popping in to say hey..
And I can't wait for the weekend! Long weekend means less work! *wahoo*
08-29-2006, 11:08 AM
Hey Squeaker! Glad you had fun in CA. and that your nephew is okay.
Hi jergersengel! I'm looking forward to the long weekend too - we might be going to Toronto for the weekend. :)
08-29-2006, 02:57 PM
Wow. Toronto's absolutly beautiful! Hope you get to go and have a wonderful time!
I think we're just going to SC hopefully for one day and see my grandparents! (My grandma is a little odd so she's good in small doses! lol)
08-29-2006, 03:32 PM

08-29-2006, 10:17 PM
I just got my ticket to go see Flogging Molly today. So happy. No good bands ever come to Eugene. Well, at least not any bands I ever want to see.
