Weight Watchers - Monthly Challenge #1: August 2006

Everyone! Our WW leader announced yesterday they are starting a new payment program. It turns out they don't have great retention with people that buy a season pass, so starting this month they will be selling monthly passes. It seems like a good time for us to get on the boards :) as well with a monthly challenge. Small bits of time that can add up to big weight loss.
When I started weight watchers (exactly 6 months ago) I lost 10 lbs a month 3 months in a row. Now, as I enter my second booklet, I have lost nothing in the last 3 months (up and down a bit). I want my 1st goal to be another 8-10 lb month to start off the fall right.
First: Set your goals! Be specific. It is great to see goals like
-I am going walking every day with my children :running:
-I am going to drink 6 glasses of water every day
-I am going to get the the gym 3 times this week
-If I don't go the the gym, I am going to do 50 sit ups and 20 push ups :wl:
-I am never going to exceed 5 extra points in one day
Second: Keep us informed of your progress. :goodscale

Here are my goals for August:
Get back to a workout routine: if I don't walk or swim... push ups
Keep a water bottle with me at all times
Never exceed 5 extra points in any given day
I am sure I can lose the weight if I stick to those rules.

I liked your weight goals and looked up my own
http://www.healthcastle.com/bmi-calculator.shtml
at 217: I was severely obese
at 211: I was considered obese
at 158: I will be merely overweight
at 132: I will no longer be overweight
at 116: (still unimaginable) I would be exactly in the middle of the BMI index

I am feeling really good about the monthly challenge. Anything to divvy the next 60 lbs or so into realistic chunks will help. It is really good for me to have exercise goals as well. With little ones around it is really easy to find excuses not to go to the gym etc.... My DS is in swimming lessons for 2 weeks, so I have been getting in the water each day for a bit. I really need to do this because I have a 1.75 mile swim race on Saturday and I haven't even done laps at the gym this year. I am one of only 5 people that has done the race every year since its inception in 1994.
So far I am on target for my food goals. I have a really hard time with two things, eating my kids leftovers and having snacks before bedtime. My only other bad is wine, but I can live without it a lot easier than other things.

I haven't participated in the Challenges yet... but maybe that is what I need to get my butt in gear.
1. Drink my water...every day!
2. Exercise at least 3 days a week for 30 minutes
3. Lift weights and/or do crunches daily... just a few minutes out of my routine.
4. Stay within 5 points of my daily points. (Thats a good one!)

Update: One of my August goals was to get below 190... which happened this morning! (It was only 189.6 - but STILL!!!) I have no idea how I did either... yesterday we were at Ozzfest (an all day concert) and didn't have any time to sit down and eat anything remotely healthy... I had two devils food donuts, two hot dogs, a cheeseburger, and tons of alcohol... yet somehow I did it! Yay! :D

Good job getting below 190 jsg. It seems forever for me to be getting out of the 180's. I just can't seem to stick within my point range. Something always comes along that looks good.
Tough at concerts - since you can't really bring much there. We have tickets to 8 concerts in the next 2 weeks. We can bring our own food. These are on the lawn with blankets and a picnic basket artsy type concerts. My parents bring so much good food and wine, it still is tough. Like tonight. I brought grilled chicken, but ended up eating my mom's potato salad anyway - and a few slices of cheese...
But yeah - good job moving out of the 190's. We are about at the same place, except I think you must be a bit taller.
andreaphilip3
08-07-2006, 11:33 AM
morgan can you bring potato salad made from red potatoes and non fat mayo?
justsomegirl
08-07-2006, 11:53 AM
Morgan--
I'm 5'4" - so not that much taller than you are!! And I've been having the SAME problem as you - I have just been having trouble sticking within my points because either I'm not sticking to the portion sizes or I'm eating some form of high-point food I know I shouldn't be having. I think I may have blown my diet this weekend & went over by about 15 points between Saturday and Sunday (which isn't good considering the point value attached to the concert on Friday). I need to weigh in & I'm kinda dreading it because I know I can kiss that 189 goodbye! Oh well... the weight came off once, I can get it off again!

08-07-2006, 01:30 PM
Actually - my mom's potato salad was red potatoes with nonfat mayo, but it is still a cup of potatos and eggs that I didn't need. Thanks though. My problem when I get near carbs is portion control.

aaaah see i dont use eggs in mine and even if i did eat 1 c its core thats why i love core.

Can't seem to stay out of the kids "before bedtime" snacks.
Open mouth - turn off brain.... it is not a good combo. I ended up with 10 extra points that way this evening.
I really want to stay within my extra point range this week - and get back to exercising. There are 3 more Mondays to go in August. With a focused next 3 weeks I could easily drop 6 more lbs and be into the 170's ~ and into a really nice red dress my mom bought me 3 years ago that I have always wanted to wear to school on a Friday (our school color is red).

Hello All,
Weighed in yesterday, lost 2lbs, hooray, can someone tell me how to go about changing that on my little weight scale thing
mouser
08-08-2006, 02:41 PM
Good job to all that have lost, I just want to get below 200 before Halloween and then I can look at a Thanksgiving goal and then a Christmas/New Year's goal, if I could loose 25-30lbs by New Year's I think the rest will be a breeze

Hi there.... I'm a Lifetime member who has sadly & badly gone astray... I've made a commitment to get back on program and REALLY do something for ME!
Hub & I have recently become the "empty-nesters". Now that I no longer have to be home (guilt-induced) to make supper, miss the gym, etc... I have worked hard the past few days to rev myself up for this.
I'd love to join your Aug challenge, even tho I am a few days late (I just started this morning).
My goals:
1. gym 3x week
2. track & record EVERYTHING that goes into my mouth
3. drink 64 oz. water daily *yipes.. this is the toughy for me
4. be honest with myself about who I'm really doing this for
Nice to meet everyone...

Hey Pink Blossom,
Where did you find that cute little Christmas tracker from, some of you have the cutest ones, quess I did not look far enough into it, but suppose I can change it, I just need to know how to change it when I loose weight-can someone help me out
PinkBlossom
08-10-2006, 02:17 PM
Hey Mouser, you can go to http://www.tickerfactory.com for some other trackers.
To change the weight on your tracker go to edit your signature and where it says your (start weight/current weight/goal weight) make sure to just change it where you put your current weight. Hope that helps! Take care

After a week of not tracking and eating way over points, I ended up with a .2 lb loss ~ I am feeling pretty good about it. At least I didn't go backward.
I am pretty motivated about turning things around this week. I am getting closer to school starting, which means closer to having some kind of a routine again.

Morrigan - too funny!! I just went way, way, WAY off track for the last five days and had a one pound loss! (it was actually 3lbs since I gained two back originally, but a one pound loss from my lowest weight since starting WW.)

I have been away from the site for a while but I'm ready to get on the ball! The kids are back in school and I can concentrate on eating better.
I'm thinking about buying the Weight Watchers Monthly Pass the end of this month. It sounds like a good deal. for $40.00 you get all your meetings and the e-tools for a month. I would like to hear what other's think about the idea. Like I said, it sounds good to me.
Goals:
1. keep up with points
2. continue going to the gym 3-4 times a week
3. be better about drinking water during the day
I need to get down to 140 to be in the healthy weight BMI zone.
I'm about 150 now. I guess I need to weigh just to be sure - SCARY!

I haven't had a terrific week, but I bought a new pair of pants (size 12) - they are too tight, but they are really great. And the store didn't carry anything higher than a 12 - so it is something to look forward to.
