Good Monday Morning Everyone!

Just wanted to get in a quickie before I head out the door and get in my walk, before it gets much hotter out there.

It's MOTIVATIONAL MONDAY and here's my contribution:

WILLING TO WORK

What are you willing to work for? It's a simple question, yet an important one. There are lots of things you might wish for, but wishing doesn't take much effort, and consequently it won't produce results. There are things you may plan for, and yet planning alone will not bring them about.

What matters is what you are willing to work for. What you achieve depends on what you are willing to work for. The person you become is based on what you are willing to work for. The quality of your life is directly related to what you are willing to work for -- not what you need, not what you want, not what you think you are entitled to, but what you are willing to work for.

There are things you won't be willing to work for. That's OK. There's no need to feel guilty about not being willing to work for them. Just don't expect to have them. Forget about those things and focus your energy on what you are willing to work for.

There are goals and aspirations that will drive you. There are things that you will gladly be willing to work for. Find them, follow them, work toward them and make them happen.

-- Ralph Marston

Good morning everyone

I hope everyone is having a good holiday weekend. I was out most of the weekend watching gs's play soccer. The ten year old's team won most of their games and made it to the final. They lost to the other team in the final after going in to overtime. I never thought that I would get excited over soccer  It was fun to watch. We all went out for dinner after the game. I also had a good shopping day yesterday. My jeans were feeling a bit baggy so I thought I would go and try on a smaller size, and what do you know they actually fit. Then I bought a sweater to go with them which is a bit clingy so now I need to fix up my boobs. They are not very big but look a bit floppy in my new sweater. So that will be my next shopping trip.

Fillise - HAPPY BIRTHDAY - I hope you have a good time with your nieces to-day.

Sol - I still like to have bacon and eggs occasionally but I usually save it for a day when I am working and get it in the cafeteria. It always tastes much better when someone else cooks it, also the bacon is less greasy the way they cook it.

Fly - Thanks for asking about my dd. Luckily she doesn't get migraine too often. I think this was the second time - hope it is the last. My cold is getting better although still have a bit of a cough. That's my excuse for not doing much exercise lately. I'll be glad when it is cleared up so I can get more active again. I am reading the Katherine Neville book "The Eight" - it's an interesting read.

Sparkle - Welcome back. Please don't stop posting because you have fallen off the wagon. Who hasn't at one time or another. :( If we were all so perfect we wouldn't need to be here for each other. Hope you enjoy your hip-hop dance class and, of course, driving your new truck.

Lamap - Glad to see you are still losing.

Nance - Hope you had a good time on the 'Great Escape'. Isn't it great to have time alone without the kids sometimes.

Deb - I agree with you that there are more important things on this woe than that metal monster. I think that I am controlling my eating more by not getting on the d.....thing every day. And even though I have not lost many pounds lately I must have lost a couple of inches as I was able to get into those smaller jeans yesterday. I tried them on in the store about a month ago and they were way too tight. Have you finished all those bran muffins yet  I checked out that book in the library but they didn't have it. Will have to check the bookstore.

Jred - Welcome to the board. I know what you mean with the scales. I was in the habit of getting on them every morning, it was like an obsession. Just a couple of weeks ago I decided to cut it down to twice a week. (See my note to Deb above.) I hope you enjoy doing SB. It really is a healthy woe.

I found another website about the Glycemic Index which I think you might be interested in. It has information about the labelling of foods with a GI symbol - mainly in Australia but it does mention North America. There is also a list of some more recently tested foods. There is also supposed to be a link to a GI Database (I think it is the same one that I posted a while ago) but it hasn't been available the last couple of days. Maybe it is being updated. http://www.glycemicindex.com

Have a good day everyone.

Marie.

Happy Monday morning everybodee!!! I'm up and the sun is shining! Last sleep in day of the summer and I thoroughly enjoyed it! It's wonderful to have older babies now so I don't have to be up at dawn! A little nervous about taking 4 year olds to and from school. They cut funding this year in the schools and now the regular ed buses take them to their preschool programs at the school. (It's like Headstart-giving underpriviledged kids a head start in school). Anyway, I know how I'd feel if I had to put my 4 year old on a huge bus with 59 other elementary kids. eek
The good news is they are going about .4 miles away and they are up front with me, getting loaded and unloaded first. Thanks for letting me go on about that. Still excited and want to get started with the dears so we can all get "settled".

We're going shopping today for Ben (16) finally had to lasso him to stay home so we can go. That will be fun since he likes to dress like he got his clothes out of the trash! Well maybe not quite that bad. They don't stink. It's hard to think about a great motivation after Debbies inspirational one. But I promised myself I will get on daily and participate this week. Especially after the pizza incident. I have a tendency to get lax on my plans when I hit this mark. The old pants are baggy and everybody is noticing. :o I will not do that this time!!!!

[color=sea green] Happy Birthday Fillese, I hope you have the "best" day

Deb-wonderful motivation! I printed it out. It's so true for the accomplishments in my life thus far. I found out the boy was 50 yards from shore and I let my boys go maybe 2. But, I'm not taking any chances. We're not swimming until I'm sure there's no "unusual" shark activity going on anywhere on the Eastern coast. Maybe it's some kind of shark cycle or disruption in the normal eco balance or something.

jred-Welcome, welcome, welcome. Glad you took the plunge! I, too, am in my 40's and desperate to avoid Type II. I have to admit that I honestly didn't believe I could lose weight because I was so "old". Now I know how silly that was. The others here convinced me to try and I know I couldn't make it without their support and I will always be grateful for them! So, as Bob (Miss Bob) says, climb on the wagon with us. Always room for more. How old are your girls? I have a 16 year old boy and a 12 year old soon to be teen boy.

Rosalie-Sounds like you had fun this weekend. Congratulations on your gd making the finals. So sorry they lost. And let's hear it for smaller Jeans!!!!!! Way to go. It was sweet for you to treat the family to dinner too. I had to  on the boob fixing. Let me know how you accomplish that because I need a major overhaul!!! Glad you are feeling better. I had a sympathy sore throat yesterday for you!!! With all the kids next week I know I'll soon be joining you!

Well, bye for now

Hi Again!

I got in my 4.5 miles with 17 jogs just in time before it rained here this morning. It was not as hot as it could of been due to the overcast, which was nice.

TOM should be here today, but hasn't made it's "appearance", scale was down a 1/2 lb from yesterday, but I'm sure it will be inching it's way back up much to my dismay-I know it's temporary, but I hate it just the same. I decided to keep myself well hydrated, I read that you tend to bloat less if you drink enough water. So, I had my 1.5 liters before 9:30am-will try to get in some more as the day goes on-so far, I've visited the potty more times than I'd like to remember!

ROSALIE, congrats on being able to buy a pair of jeans smaller-even though the scale doesn't want to budge, it seems the inches are, and that's definitely more important than the stupid scale. Umm, can you give me your best tips for fixing up your boobs? I have always wondered what mine would look like if they were normal-they hang due south and have so for as long as I can remember. Thank goodness for bras!!!! I've contained myself and had 2 bran muffins last night, and one this morning. They seem to taste better today than when I took them out of the oven last night. There's no nutritional info on the book, so I am going to guesstimate them to put into my food journal. I know they have a copy of that book on half.com-if you are interested, but do try to see if you can find a copy somewhere, or at least a used copy. If you'd like, I can send you a coupon for half.com $5 off your first order-I'd think they'd ship to CA. I had that website you posted in my files-it's a good one!

FLY, have "fun" shopping today! I dread taking either one of mine shopping, it's never enjoyable. Down here in Fl, they think the shark attacks are due to cloudy waters and the sharks coming closer to shore, and when they see something reflective, they are thinking it's a fish-who knows if it's that or not, just hope things settle down soon. I have a cousin who loves to surf in Jax. area, and I'm sure this makes him a bit more leary.

Would you believe, my kids are still asleep. Michael was up late from what Eli told me, on the computer. I'm going to put time restraints on him during the week, it's getting absurd!

QUESTION: Should we change the chat time for tomorrow night due to BB on at 9pm EST, or cancel it for this week, or just keep it the same - any thoughts????

I guess I'll get in the shower and go make something to eat. I'll check in withy ou all sometime later today.

Toodles

HAPPY BIRTHDAY FILLISE !!!!
Hope you have a good one.

DEBBIE, Thanks so much for the link to the NewZealand site about the low carb eating. How did you find it???
I have Emailed Jok'nAl to ask for a mail order form.
Its those jams, sauces, pickles that I want to get with out the sugar. The time I drove miles out of my way to a store that supposedly stocked there products had 2 flavours of jam and at there web site there is lots of things. I would like to start cutting back on the whole families consumption of sugar after all the articles Ive been reading I think it would do everyone a whole lot of good.
Well Im getting my hair cut today and Im getting nervous about it. Im tring to grow it and they always end up lopping off too much. The ends are getting 'frayed' loking though so its time for a trim.
It is very windy, good day for folding the washing and watching telly.

Hey, where are you all today? Not laboring, I'm sure-guess those of you who haven't ventured onto the board are having a good time with family and/or friends:)

I just woke up from a nap, didn't realize I was so tired, but must of slept about 2 hours! I guess I needed some extra beauty rest!

BEE, glad to be of some help:) My fav. flavour of the JoknAl jelly is raspberry, then strawberry, I don't buy the apricot or grape. I've heard some of their other products are good, but those are harder to find here and quite expensive. I find these useful sites by just being creative and putting words into my fav. search engine, http://www.google.com - here's a page you can check out - http://www.google.com/search?q=%22new+zealand%22+low+carb+products I'm sure you can find some other good information within these sites listed. Hope your hair comes out good. I desperately need to get mine done, haven't had it cut or colored since the middle of February, wow, almost 7 months! I really wish I would of let NANCE do my hair while I was with her, she does her own and it looks fab!!!!

Guess I'll go fix the kids some dinner, though someone out there seems to of made them something to eat in the last few minutes, I can smell food!!!!!!! Am I the ONLY one who's house, they eat at all different times???????

Later!

Did any of you ladies labor today??? I sure did...LOL It's been a long & busy week-end at work for me. Sorry I have been MIA, but had not turned on Computer since Friday! I was having withdrawal!!! ;)

Have not really read the board yet, so I'll just say hello for now & let you all know that I'm still kicking. I was down for a few days, ate a few things that I shouldn't have & saw that scale go up to 146, but am back down to 144 today. Hoping to be down another lb by WIW.

I see that I'm not the only September gal on the board!!! Great!!! I always knew I was in good company here
Happy Birthday SUSAN!!!

OK gals, it's time to get to the kitchen & fix Zucchinni pizza for dh for supper. He's been asking for it, so I'm going to treat him with it tonight & I'm hoping he will share with me.

May not get another chance to check in till Wednesday. Miss all of you... I feel so disconnected :( but I'll be back!

Well I'm back from shopping. Pooped(as in tired), fed and happy. Only 1 hour 'til bed. After Ben & I shopped and I convinced him to buy two new pairs of pants and three new shirts. One of them was "Spongebob Squarepants" of all things. At least he's going to wear new clothes. One step at a time. Peter and I went shopping and we saw some killer deals on shirts for him and I found two pairs of shorts for me. Liz Claiborne for $8 I'm happy. Then went to Barnes and Nobles and shopped. Found a hard back called "Gap Creek" by Robert Morgan for $5.99 that looks good. I'll let you know.

MOTIVATION MONDAY CONTRIBUTION: "A man (or woman) who wants to do something will find a way; a man who doesn't will find an excuse.

Bee-have fun with that new do. I need to get mine trimmed again too. Oh, I almost forgot about the "Ethics"

Teenage Code of Ethics

There is a certain code of ethics and beliefs that go along with being a teenager, please pay close attention and make special efforts to follow these simple rules:

1. Your room must stay messy at all times – even if you want to clean it,
You must keep it as messy as possible.

2. Always insist that you are right – even when you know you are wrong, it helps to keep the image of immaturity and irrationality.

3. Never help around the house unless threatened with bodily harm – if
Your parents ever thought they could count on you to be helpful and part of the family where would it ever end? Before you know it they would start trusting you and expecting you to behave in a mature and adult-like manner – NOT!!!

4. Eat like a slob – if you eat in a civilized way your parent might mistakenly think you are mature enough to act with proper dignity and manners in public and might take you places with them.

5. Never act like you are glad to see them at any special events in your life, like coming to your games, concerts, special events at school. Place huge amounts of guilt on them if they don’t attend any of these events, but if they come act like you don’t want them there!

Well, these five will be enough to get you started at least.

Good night all. Gonna get babies ready for school tomorrow!!!

Just a quick hello before I head off to the treadmill. Another day of rain today. I am so sick of the rain. They are forecasting more for tomorrow. You would think that there is a storm out in the gulf.

Welcome to the newbies. You will get lots of motivation and encouragement from this wonderful group of ladies.

Well I hear the TM calling my name so I shall say good-bye for now.

Hello Girls!!!!

How is everyone????

Dan and I had a wondeful day yesterday at Forest Falls. We went hiking up to the falls, sat on some rocks, at just sat there and enjoyed natures music. We went cruising around and looed at cabins and saw a BEAR roaming around in someones back yard!!!! HOLY SMOKES!!!! We couldn't believe it. Then we drove into a nearby town and picked up some fresh produce, then went to lunch at a great Italian restaurant, and cruised around looking at the beautiful Victorian homes. Of course we found another home that Dan the Man and I both fell in love with, called the realtor, and found out it was $259,000! YIKES!!!! Wish we could, but that is out-of our range. Came home only to get a phone call from one of my brothers saying he was on his way for a visit, and had a big bbq. Finished up school shopping for the kids today...what a relief to be done with that!!!

Debs....miss ya...think of you everyday when I'm brewing coffee! Went back to Albertsons and got some of that San Luis Sourdough. Nadia and I are totally addicted! You'll be proud of me, got Nadia a pair of shoes on sale, then the cashier told me it was buy one, get one free. SCORE!!!!

Fly
What a bummer about your romatic evening!!! SOunds like something that would only happen to me! Thanks for asking about Faris. He's doing fine. His cast has been off for about a week, and he's being a rebel and not wearing his sling. To cool for that. I'm getting ready to cut his hair (can you believe he actually trusts me???)

J Red
Welcome to the gang!!! You will find great support here, and as you can already tell Debbie is AWESOME. She is a walking eating, exercising, smart, intelligent, friendly, living SB expert...a mentor in every way! The rest of us are A-O-K too, but we all strive to follow her lead! Ask her about the before and after pictures!

Well, the bbq is calling me again. What else is one to do on days like this? We know what BOB is doing....except we didn't get a movie line-up for the three day weekend topped off with Big Brother tonight!!!!!!

Hi everyone! I have an unfair advantage, I've been lurking out here for about a month and feel I know all you. You can't imagine how much you've inspired me and kept me going. I started SB on 7/24 after getting back from a trip to England where I ate potatos with evey meal (fried, boiled, mashed, whatever) and at least a pint of good British ale at each sitting, and couldn't even zip my jeans on the plane ride home. Not that I was svelte to start with, but what a disaster. Also I had gestational diabetes with my last pregnancy 11 years ago, so I know the possibility of diabetes is lurking out there for me.

My father and step-mother have been SB for the last year and seem to be doing so great even though they eat out constantly, that I thought I would try it. So far, I've lost 15 lbs :) :) and have been VERY strict, but it's working and I'm obsessive anyway.

15 down, 25 to go!

Now I just have to figure out all the posting stuff- I worked as a computer programmer and systems analyst for 15 years, but feel totally illiterate here. Gotta figure out the color thing.

I hope I can keep up with all of you fantastic posters, and contribute some for all the inspiration you all have given me without knowing it!

Bye for now, Mel

Hi Y'all!

Getting ready to hit the hay-I'm tired despite having a nap, TOM should be here tomorrow, I'll be surprised if it doesn't come, feeling barfy, a good indication my hormones are kicking in!

Eli is off tomorrow and we'll be headed up to Broward for the day-lots of stops and of course, lunch at Ole Ole and dessert of Carbolite-they're suppose to have COCONUT!!!! YEAH!!!! I think I'll have a medium;) Anyhow, I may not have time to post in the morning, so if I seem to be MIA, you'll know why!!!

MELF, sounds like you've been busy this extended weekend. What are your b.day plans?????

FLY, sounds like your shopping trip was successful today. Thanks for posting the TEENAGERS CODE OF ETHICS, I've copied it and sent it to Michael already-not Lauren, she's pretty good, don't want to give her any ideas!

CATLOVER, rained a lot here today as well-hope for a better day tomorrow.

NANCE, sounds like you and Dan had a great day together!! I liked that SD bread too, nothing like it here. I'll have to put that on my list of things for you to bring me when we finally make a trek to Miami one day in the future.;) So Dan has gotten better with the coffe, eh? I'm sure he'd make a great Barista now! LOL!! Yes, I am totally proud of your sale find today-so who got the other pair??? Hope you and Nadia will get some use of those new sneaks in that gorgeous park of yours in the morning-hint, hint:D

MELIRIS, WELCOME TO THE BOARD!! Glad you've decided to join our happy family! I know we have a lot of people who lurk and do wish more of them would join us-but at least you took the step. You and ROSALIE will have to compare notes on eating in the UK, she went there as well, I think about the same time you did actually. I remember when I went to Europe with Eli 5-6 years ago, I ate my way through every country and gained 10lbs in 14 days-I felt sorry for the guy who had to clean out the rental car we had-and every picture, I had some type of food in my mouth, mostly pastries! From that point on, it was uphill in the scale (was in the 130's when we went), it took some time, but before I turned around, (a few times) I was back near 200, something I swore to myself would never again happen. So, I guess what I am saying is that it's good that you have a hold on yourself now, before the scale continues to go up. Seems you've done well so far on SB, and trust me, I too seem to be a bit compulsive about staying OP 100%-just ask the gals on the board, and those who I've been lucky enough to meet;) Nothing wrong with that, but Eli would tend to argue with my statement!!!! Please, don't hesitate to ask any questions you may have-we'll all be happy to help in any way:D

BOB, can't wait to have you back where you belong!!!!!!!! Taking a flight the same time as ours-yuck! White shoes, does that include my white Birkenstock sandles??????:?:

Gals, the bed is calling my name. Like I said, if I don't post tomorrow morning you'll know why-and have a wonderful Tuesday!!

Nite!

Hey its Tuesday!!!! Hope everyone who had a long week end enjoyed. I did-but was alittle crabby with this TOM thing! I had great plans on staying on program 100% but ya all know me!! Actually i didn't do to bad just over did the leagal stuff and ate some non leagal stuff (pineapple) But i figured its a fruit bad on but a fruit! I am not expecting miracles tomorrow on that scale-but maybe they do happen!!!! HA! No excersise yesterday but Sunday i did 2 miles walking with my sis in law who just started Weight Watchers-they are sooooooo cute when they start a diet huh?! all gun ho! I guess i am getting to everyone arouond me with this weight stuff! Its a good thing! Hubby did well this week too he is up to 28 lbs off not bad for 9 weeks or so huh? he said his goal is a total of 60 lbs so almost half way! It is alot easier when we both are "watching" what we eat.
Boys just got off to school!!!!! yeah!!! little sad that my oldest is a freshman! He is getting so old! The middle one was really nervous he is going to middle school (6th) a new school for him. We where at grandmas yesterday she sells AVON and he picked out a deoderant! i said "you don't even have any hair or B.O"!! Good Tuesday Morning Everyone:wave:

Able to find a few minutes to post while I cool down. Was out for my 4.5 miles at 6:45am today, Michael got picked up for school, so I didn't have to take him. Didn't make it much better heat wise though, thought it would-WRONG! Did my walk with 17 jogs in 53:40-no great time breaker!

RHROO, got an idea for you when you and Hubby have those 3 hours together ALONE on Wednesday, why don't you BOTH do your aerobics tape naked! LOL! Just don't tell the kids about it, they'll think you're REALLY gross then! As for chat, it's tonight but I'm not sure who will show up.

REMINDER Tonight is chat-not sure who, if any will show up, seems BIG BROTHER is going to draw quite a few tonight. I will try my darndest to get on, but it may be towards the end of the chat. Let me know if anyone plans on showing up.

Gotta run, have a wonderful day. Oh yes, one more reminder TOMORROW IS WEIGH IN WEDNESDAY!!!!! Good luck to everyone!!!

Good morning all. I used Debs motivation tip and "imagined myself" doing my runs today perfectly and it went great. Even with those little 4 year olds. Sitting here with my oatmeal and coffee. Went like a mad woman cleaning up when I got home. Awaiting the Terminix man. Ugh. That guy gives me the creeps. So I'm going to "conveniently" call my dh while he's here. There's just something about him. Up one pound but I think it's TOM. Isn't it great we have something to blame it on?

Catlover-sending sunshine your way!

Nance-oooooooohhh. You have a great day. I'm tired just reading the post. You tell Dan he's great for me. You're right you are lucky to have Faris trust you with the haircut. Ben lets me but he wants it to be uneven!

Jred-Nance's right. Debs pics are so inspiring!!!

Melaris-Welcome!!!! Awesome. 15 lbs whoooo hooo. Keep it up. It was wierd about the posts. I noticed your number of posts remained a 3 for all of them.

OHhhhhhhh Bob!!!!!! I have white shoes on! Come get me.

Rhoo-Isn't the first day great. The house seems soooooo quiet. I just love it!!!! I'm hoping for a miracle tomorrow on the scale too. Your working out naked made me fall out of my chair with laughter. I wouldn't dare. I'd be knocked out by a flying boob.

Deb-you go girl. Get some walking in for me today too. Just kidding. I'll do something today.

Well, off to drop meds at school for William. Missed them last week they were out.

Sooo. Bye for now

Wow - it always amazes me when the holiday weekends pass by in such a hurry....

I am so sore today. I went skating with the kids on Sunday and it was the first time I had wheels on my heels in 17 years!! I only fell 3 times and almost broke both wrists trying to catch myself, :dizzy: but I almost got the hang of it back again. I used to skate 1 or 2 times a week as a kid. The floor is alot harder now that I'm all grown up! I know this was probably great exercise, so I'm hoping to make it at least a bi-weekly habit - it was neat to do something like that with my 9 year old. He thought his Mom was goofy at first when I was trying to re-learn, but I have challenged him to a race after my 3rd time back and he thinks that is cool

BOB - I'm right there with ya on the white shoes thing..... My mother would die if she caught me in white shoes after labor day! I wore my favorite white sandals on Sunday, just to get one more time out of them this season! Did you see that movie about the crazy mom who was on trial for murder and had a hissy fit about a juror who had on white shoes after labor day? That was so funny! What was the name of that movie????????? I can't remember:?:

Deb - I hate TOM. I find it hard to drink more water during that time, but everyone seems to agree that it helps.

Hello to everyone else! Gotta run for now.

Thanks for the big welcome everyone!

Back to the real routine now- ds back at school, dh back to looking for a job (the high tech slow down brought us to a halt), dd packing to go back to university on Friday. I'm going out with her for a few days- hope I can stay op and exercising- there's just too much junk food and even good enourmous quantity food-type restaurants in a college town. She an athlete, so maybe she can sneak me into the weight rooms and track. on the other hand, working out with all those buff 20 year olds is a terrifying idea.

One question- how on earth do I keep drinking all this h20 on a 400 mile drive? I'll be able to write a toilet guide to Pennsylvania and Ohio after that:( .

Got in my 1/2 hour weights and 45 minute run/walk this morning. I can't imagine how all you southerners do it in that heat; the heat and humidity of Pa. is bad enough for me. Hats off to all you Forida and Alabama ladies!

MELF- We have the same birthday! Hope you have good plans, I'll be assembling bookcases and hooking up computers.

Deb- I've been laughing at the ongoing hummus discussions. It's a staple at our house and always has been. I thought everybody ate it!

Bye for now and thanks for the welcome,
mel

Hey All!

Got home a little bit ago, had a nice day out with Eli today, lunch was delicious and piggy me had 2 Carbolites-size medium-hey, at least I'm honest!!!

FLY, did you get in that walking? If you saw how NANCE does her own hair, you'd understand why Faris allows her to do his-she may of missed her calling as a beautician!

TV, I applaud you for getting on those wheels, I would be scared I'd definitely break something, plus, I have weak ankles. Honestly, if they would have a women's class on skating at one of the local skate shops, I would probably try, as long as I wasn't the only one who looked like an idiot! My fear, not being able to stop when you come to a corner and heading smack dab into a car!!!!

MEL, with planning, you can DEFINITELY stay OP with no problem. When I went out to Las Vegas and Calif, I had no trouble at all and stayed OP 100%. Even on the airplane-trust me, my chicken salad sandwich was MUCH better than the planes breakfast food (we'd been up for hours by that time). There's a lot of things you can take along, and for the times you want to eat out you can easily find places that are accomodating. Here's one tip I like-take whatever SB cereal you like and put it in a baggie along with powdered instant milk (measure accordingly), and just add water, and viola, you have you cereal and milk. Fruit is easy to take-really anything, as long as you have a cooler (and I guess it helps if you are driving, which is sounds like you are) Maybe you can write a potty book-take some Lysol wipes and potty covers with you, some of those bathroom stalls are disgusting!!!! Hummus, oye, we have it at home probably 4 times a week-Eli is Lebanese, so it's a staple in our house as well.

BEE, glad to be of help, anytime!!!

Well, I'm headed for the kitchen, going to make falafels for dinner-YUMMY!! Trying a new mix today-so much easier than making from scratch.

I'll check in with you all later.

Hi everyone!

I've been MIA lately, but I've somewhat kept up with reading the posts (until over the holiday weekend). Happy birthday to all you wonderful September girls! Hope you are all treated like a queen on your special day--you deserve it!!!

Welcome to the newbies! You have hooked up with a wonderful, caring group of women willing to support and help you whenever you need it.

Sorry I'm not responding to everyone - seems like I say that every time I post. It is just NOT slowing down here and I'm getting into projects that are taking too much time. The guys finally came today to start our re-siding (after they told us they were coming last Thurs. and then never showed up!). There's stuff all over the yard now and this project will take a week or more.

VA - just wanted to quickly say that I read Gap Creek - it was one of Oprah's picks that I read. I really like books about that area of the country and during that time period. If I remember correctly, the story was really good, but I didn't like how it ended.

Hope many of you can post a loss tomorrow. I know I won't, but I'm ok with that. I WILL get there.

Hi all!

I am just checking in to let you know I am alive! Just barely. Someday this rainy weater will stop and I will be human again. I spent part of Saturday in bed.

Made myself go to church and hung out doing nothing. Yesterday I felt a little better and today is horrible again.

There was a church women's Bible Study today and I went to that but have gotten worse as day progressed. Also stopped to see if my new glasses lens was in. The regular lady wasn't there and the one who was couldn't put the lens in last time, so will try tomorrow.

It hurts too much to type so will not be at cvhat tonight. Will hope for a better day tomorrow.

Shirley.

Sorry this is such a lousy post. I will try to be more cheerful next time!!

Hello everyone--thanks for the many birthday wished and the sweet birthday card! I had a lovely day. My brother and his family were here. We all went to the beach on Sunday and then Monday we shopped. I even survived my brother's extra special birthday present to me. When I got up there was a HUGE box of Krispy Kremes on the table. My youngest niece kept waving them in front of me going "don't you wish you could have one?" I held firm and stayed OP all day! My SIL made me a legal chocolate pie for the celebration. I'll post the recipe when I get back home.

I head back to Auburn tomorrow. I don't know if I'll be able to check in as I have to hit some meetins as soon as I get off the plane--but I'll definatly be back to a normal schedule on Thursday!

I think I'm down to a new low (235) but I really want to get on my scales at home before I declare it officially.

Susan

ps--I don't even own a pair of white shoes. But the linen--sigh--I shall miss it.

Good evening ladies..

I may be the only one, but I just never got into those reality shows. Don't have a clue about BB except for the commercials. I did watch the last couple of Survivor 2 shows because of the TX boy, but just don't have time to follow them.

The rain just won't stop here in NTX and I'm beginning to be waterlogged. But I won't complain after last summer. One year ago today it was 111 and we hadn't had rain in 2 months.

I'm not sure what Weigh in Wed. is, but will try to read some old postings to figure it out and jump right in.

We had a PTO meeting tonight at my school and then had some grocery shopping to do, so I haven't been home very long. It's kinda late, but I still need to ride my exercise bike. I'll "see" y'all tomorrow.

oh yes, I forgot who asked, but my girls are 16 and 12 (til Oct 30). They are a joy and are finally getting along a little bit better. The older is tolerating the younger more easily at the moment.

Take care.

Good Wednesday Morning!

UGH! I feel guilty this morning-I chose not to walk when I really could of. It was pouring down rain when we woke up this morning, but by the time Michael got picked up, it was over. Part of me wanted to go, the other part didn't-don't ask me which part is which, but the part that didn't want to go won at the end and I feel somehow "guilty"-sounds stupid I guess. Decided that I'll tackle a bit of cleaning since I didn't walk.

Have to pick up my 4 year old niece from school today. She's loves the idea that she's going to be "special" today and have Aunt Debbie pick her up. Will take her out to lunch since they don't feed them there. I haven't stepped into a FF place for a long time-I guess I'll have to ask my sister where I should take her to eat-I'll wait til I get home to eat something.

Well, TODAY IS WEIGH IN WEDNESDAY!!! I hope you all faired better than I on the scales. I'm up 1 1/2lbs from last weeks WIW, but TOM is def. arriving today and I hope it's up from that and not the 2 med. Carbolites I scarfed down yesterday! Actually, I'm quite happy to be able to say I've been able to stay below my goal weight for almost 3 months:)

If you'd like to post your WIW results, just click on the link below and it will take you to the SB WEIGH IN BOARD:

http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=9036

I must admit, I didn't like this latest version of BB until BOB came to visit, and now with it coming down to the wire, I'm glued! Last night was great. Since I got into it, I thought either Monica or Will should win. I don't like Will as a person, but he's really played this game big time. Monica, has played it well too, but in a different way. That Nicole is a wacko and it sure does show. I guess her and Hardy are wiping those smirks off their faces!! Tonight will be a challenge, there is another show on at the same time-something is going to have to be taped!!!!!

KAREN, don't worry about responding to everyone, we know how hectic life can be at times-just your checking in and saying hello is what counts!!!

SEF, hope you are feeling better. Same thing I said to KAREN about checking in with us, just letting us know you're around is what really matters-though we do miss those witty posts of yours!

FILLISE, CONGRATS on taming the doughnut monster in you-what a great bday present to yourself-true willpower!!!!! I hope you find that new low on the scale when you get home-let us know!!!

JRED, WIW is just the day that we post our weights. It's not a mandatory thing you have to do, just something I started back when the boards started-gosh, it's been almost 1 1/2 years when I think about it! Anyhow, it's not only on Wednesdays because WIW sounds better than any other day I could find something snappy sounding, but I started SB on a Wednesday, so there's a little of me in this reasoning:) You have it correctly, 194/125.5/129 are my starting, current and goal weights-and you posted yours right. It helps for others to see where you were/are/going.

Okay gals, I'm going to get something for Lauren to eat for breakfast. I'll check in with you later this morning.

Please remember, TOMORROW IS RECIPE DAY so if you have any SB LEGAL RECIPES you'd like to share with the board, please, try to post them tomorrow on the new SEPTEMBER 2001 RECIPE BOARD.

Have a wonderful day!

Viv's Guidelines for Sugarbusters Maintenance

Eat totally OP all day. Become the pillar of Sugarbusters (after Deb ;) ).
After the kids have gone to bed, raid their birthday party candy stash and be sure to remove every last bit of chocolate or chewy stuff. Drink lots of water to flush it out of your body.
Continue indefinitely.

There you have it, ladies, my version of maintenance! If I could just get past the stupid nighttime cravings, I would actually lose again!!!!!! Need to do a little headbanging!

This is just another Viv Quickie - Happy September birthdays (my mom and older DS too!) and welcome newbies!

School has started, things are nuts, my mom is here to celebrate her 80th. She has gained so much weight in the past two years, yet refuses to see how her eating habits have contributed to that. She gets very defensive so I just keep my mouth shut (hard for me :o :o ). We're taking her to Foxwoods for her birthday as a special treat so she can have fun on the slots.

Today I find out if my Dad's cancer has recurred. Keep your fingers crossed that everything is negative.

I have been lurking daily, just about, so I'm up to date with everyone, and send you all lots of hugs.

Hi everyone :)

Just a quickie.

I'm happy to report I weighed in at 197 lbs this morning - that is one less than my lowest of 2 weeks ago. I feel now that I have definitely broken that 200 barrier.

Viv - I loved your Maintenance Guidelines  I used to have a stash of candy for the gcs but stopped buying it when I started SB. Partly for their benefit but also for mine. I used to find it very hard to keep my hand out of the candy jar. I hope things turn out o.k. for your Dad.

Sef - Hope you are soon feeling better.

I don't have time to respond to everyone but will check in again later.

Well, WIW wasn't good to me - back at 199 - I had dipped to 197 during the week so hopefully it's just fluctuating and will continue to fluctuate DOWN.... Went to the Dr. today and we're going to run my c-peptides again to see how I'm doing. I haven't had that tested since March. This was the first significant loss since going in March. I was down 6 lbs. from July 5 - my last appointment. Considering I've only lost a total of 10 lbs. (at 198) that tells me I'm finally getting the balances where they need to be.

Vince and I spent all day Monday in beds - yep, you read that right bedS. We went shopping for a new bed. Decided on the soft side waveless waterbed. It will be delivered on Thursday before we leave for our anniversary week-end on Friday. We'll set it up Friday morning and have it waiting for us when we get back. We have to decide on a semi-permanent place for the bed because it will be nigh impossible to move once allt that water is in it. We 'redecorate' by rearranging the furniture and pictures in the house every month or so - cheap guys decorating! The soft side looks like a regular mattress and uses all the regular sheets and all, but is and sleeps like a waterbed. I'm pretty excited - never had a waterbed before and it's soft and cushy like I like and Vince thinks it's firm enough for him to get a good night's sleep.

Well....the HP and Compaq merger was not good for HIG and I got laid off yesterday so I'm filing for unemployment today and trying to get my resume completed for a job fair that's going on tomorrow. I haven't worn panty hose in the 3 years I've been there, so I'm not looking forward to dressing up, wearing heels and putting on that 'smile', but alas I do need to work.

I'll check in when I can, but I'll be full time job hunting for a while. I'll let you know how it goes.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY FILLISE!!!! CONGRATS ON STAYING OP!!!!!

Viv - my thoughts are with you today - I definately know how you feel. I'm crossing everything I can think of for your Dad!

Fillise - KK doughnuts are a definate - ultimate - temptation for me. You did so good - we are all very proud of you! I have been lucky that no one has put one in front of me!

Rosalie - HOORAY FOR YOU ON THE BROKEN BARRIER!!!

SolShine - so sorry about your job.... I'm sure you will find something else soon. Lots of times those things can be blessings in disguise - maybe you'll find something better and that pays more $$!!! You never know!

My oldest had his first fall baseball game last night - we lost, but we haven't played or practiced since June. They were rusty, but will come right along now. A couple of the boys that were in BIG slumps in June got hits last night, so that will help by boosting their ego a little! My little one has his first game tomorrow night... it should be hillarious!! I can't wait.

Hey ladies,

Still at 166 and still blaming it on TOM. You'll know if that's true in another week or so. Still real busy so will just respond for now.

TV-Awesome skating. Did you get that rush you felt as a youngster? I have to know the name of that movie too. I think it was about a Texas cheerleader murder and the lady (who's face I see) stared in "Peggy Sue Got Married". Maybe Bob can place it.

Bee-Hey there. I remember the sugar cravings the first two weeks. I didn't whine too much, did I ladies? My favorite way to beat them was a legal smoothie. Plain, no fat, yogurt, legal fruit (strawberries are my favorite), artificial sweetner, 2% milk and whirl in a blender or food processor. For extra icy for ice cream withdrawl I'd throw in some ice too. Hope that helps! That got me through the summer. How's Lisa?

Deb-Yum, thanks for eating a Carbolite for me! I feel like a pig too I'm so bloated! :o Didn't walk. Will definitely do something today. Was beaten down by afternoon run. A four year old went missing! Not my fault but lots of stress trying to find her. I was pooped by the time I got home just in time to fill out the 500,000 papers the schools have you fill out (school papers x 3 here). Nance-Tell Faris I need to borrow his sling! Let me know if you brave the skates. It's worth the "silly" phase. Did you wind up at McD's or BK? If you didn't...how did you avoid it?

Bob-Welcome back. Get some rest. Hope you had fun. And....by the way.....I'm wearing white shoes again!!!!

[color=firebrick]Karen-Thanks for the Gap Creek update. I'm like you...super busy right now....but will post for a little per day. I remember the two day readathon I did last time I went MIA.

sol-My prayers for sunshine. Is the pain worse with the rain? Don't worry about quality posts...we're just glad you're here.

Fillese-Congrats on the will power with those Krispy Kremes!!! Glad you had a good day.

Jred-Call me old fashioned but I really want some values in my tv too. I asked about childrens ages. I have a 16 year old and 12 year old too. But of the opposite sex. They no longer loathe each other. Just not super close now. I think the older resented the newcomer after 5 years of alone time with parents.

Viv-Your color is in honor of your last post. That maintenance guide was so funny. How's the head? I said a prayer for dad and aren't you a great daughter for biting your tongue about moms weight? Let us know how dad is.

Rosalie-Whooo hoooo 197!!! You go girl. All that badmitton & biking has paid off!!!!

Sol:cool:I bet the weight change is just fluctuation. Hang in there. I have a happy dance saved just for you. You know where my mind went in your last post. I read bed. No plural. Bad 'fly. I'm so jealous---I want your bed. But only if it has dual temp controls. So sorry about the layoff. You were so wise to update that resume!!!! Let us know how that goes. I'm with you. Panty hose should be banned.

Well, bye all. Gotta go fuel up the bus.

Hi everyone-
The scale was kind today 175/158/135 (SB since 7/24) but I can't figure out why. TOM coming up and I was even salting my triscuits yesterday:o.
At least I got in my hill runs today. There's nowhere flat where I live, so if I run, it's always a hill run. I just "visualize" that I'm Lance Armstrong powering a bike up the Alps, or Marion Jones going for the finish line:lol: I'd love to know what my four-legged running partner visualizes.
Then I went for a "social walk" with a few of my walking buddies that go everyday before work.

Solshine- So sorry to hear about your job loss. We're in the same boat here due to dot.com crashes and mergers. I'm working part-time doing admin work while re-writing my resume (last updated 10 years ago for the computer field), trying to learn some state-of the-art technology, and hunting for a pair of panty-hose! Good luck in your search! The waterbed should be great- Jon and I had one for 15 years. Only problem was when I was pregnant and couldn't generate the umph to get out of it. Dh would bounce on his side to catapult me out!

Rosalie- congrats on the under 200 goal! That's awesome!

sef- hope you feel better soon.

QUESTIONS: What is BB? How do you get the graphic under your names?

Bye for now- gotta go watch great US Open Tennis so I can feel really lousy about my game....:(

Got my TMJ splint yesterday & having a time getting use to it. Have to wear it 24/7, except when I'm eating...yuck. I really think it needs more adjustment, but won't have a chance to go back till next week.

Haven't really had a chance to read the board, so I can't respond to any posts. I'm really sorry about that cause I'd like to know how everyone is doing, but I'm sure that you all understand. Sometimes things are just too hetic.

Had another long day packing away Mom's things. Only have one more week till my brother moves in, so we're trying to get it all done.

Working 12 hr shifts the next 2 days, then heading off to Texas for the week end. Will be visting my 2nd daughter, Tina & my oldest gs Dane. We'll be attending a gospel concert Saturday night then get to hear Tina sing at church Sunday morning. This is what I'm doing for my birthday.

Will try to get back to the board before too long, just don't know when. Bye

Yippee! Happy dance.

Thank you melaris! Because of your question I learned something new! I thought they were neat too but didn't know how. What I did was-went to my last post....hit edit.....hit profile....hit edit options....hit change avatar....chose one of theirs.....hit submit changes. I tried to use one of my gifs but they were too big. Gotta have 70x70 pixel max. So until I find a killer one I'm stuck with what I have. So glad the scale was kind to you. I remember my brief move to PA. Were were in Monroeville outside Pittsburgh. I took my bike and used it exactly once in 1 1/2 years!!!! I literally rode down the hill (mountain) and couldn't make it back up!!!! So I applaud your hill running. Would love the chance to redo a hill now that I'm a lot more fit than PA. I did ride hills in Lancaster when I was in my 20's. That was fun.

melf-hope you get used to that splint soon. Tell me how it works at night. Do you drool? Did Dr. Evil "check" you in that same way and if he did---were you ready? Have fun at the concert and with your visit. You deserve it.

to all my other pals. My mil is turning 60 soon and taking it quite hard. My sil is having a birthday bash in NY which my dh will attend. Has anyone else dealt with this? and does anyone have any suggestions to make it special? I was thinking taping something to watch with the kids or writing something to read as a tribute to all she's done and all her wisdom. You know.....all that mushy stuff.

Bye for now,

Hey All!

WOW, I can't believe it's already 7:30pm-shows are coming on soon!

Took my niece Ainsley Rose to Wendy's-she tells me (mind you, she's 4 years old), "You need to talk to my Mom and tell her you have to pick me up again!" She loved being the center of attention and going out to lunch with "Aunt Deb."

I wrote to Dr. Jennie Brand-Miller and asked her about carob being low-GI as someone had questioned me about it being so. She said that it's not been tested, but since it was a legume, it probably was low on the GI-I had no idea it was considered a legume-so I learned something new! Also, I asked her about her latest book which is now out-has anyone read it, it's called The Glucose Revolution Life Plan.

VIV, I'm going to shoot both you and RHROO! The two of you are 4lbs from goal and you both keep doing this sabotaging to yourself. I have a big pent up CONGRATULATIONS just waiting for you and her-are you trying to drive me crazy???????LOL! What's the latest new on your Dad?

ROSALIE, CONGRATS!!!! What wonderful news to read-you go girl!!! You must be feeling really good today-your patience is paying off again!

SOL, glad to see you still under the 200 mark:) New bed huh, definitely have to brake that baby in!!!;) Good luck with the job hunt-are you going to post your resume on the web as well?

TV, maintaining is better than gaining-I think we'd all agree on that one:)

FLY, ended up at Wendy's-don't ask me why, just thought of that place as being somewhat better-she wanted chicken nuggets. How do I not let that tempt me? LOL! That food is just so gross, how I ever ate it in the past, I'll never know-stupidity I guess. The only FF my kids usually get is pizza or burritos at Taco Bell-at least that's from my end. Really, nothing tempts me, remember, I'm anal when it comes to staying OP! Lost kid? Don't have any suggestions for you MIL turning 60, I'm trying to handle the fact that I'll be turning 40 next month!

MELIRIS, CONGRATS on your loss-though you didn't mention how much you lost:) Thanks for posting your BIO on the BIO BOARD-it was nice to learn more about you AND that you too have a birthday on Sept. 8th, same day as MELF! Sorry, BB is BIG BROTHER, the TV show. Also, the little pictures under the user names are called AVATARS-if you go to your EDIT OPTIONS and follow FLYS instructions she posted for you, you'll be able to do it too:)

MELF, hey, staying the same, like I told TV, is sure better than a gain! You and MELIRIS share a birthdate! I read an article on TMJ last night-will have to get the name of the magazine I got it from and let you know.

NANCE, have you heard how LDBLOND is doing????????

BOB, got an e-mail from a gal who's doing SB-lives in Sarasota as well-told her about you-hope she decides to join us.

Okay gals, I'm outta here-will try to check in before I hit the hay tonight.

Hello All! I'm back in Auburn, but this will be short as I have a meeting in a few minutes and then will probably crash for the rest of the evening. It is good to be home. Tomorrow I will get on the scales and see if the loss is official!

Wow--when I was reading about the HP-Compaq merger in the paper, little did I know it would affect one of our little band so significanly. Sonya--sorry--I'll be thinking about you.

Congrats to all the losers--hang in there to all the rest. I'll let you know which category I'm in tomorrow morning!

Hey Ladies!

Sorry I've been AWOL lately - just really bogged down with school stuff! I've been on plan for the most part but I kinda spent my birthday weekend on the fly and went a little crazy. By the way - yesterday I turned the BIG 31! So, basically I blew it all weekend with the LSU game and then we went out in the French Quarter on Sunday. My parents cooked for me yesterday and Terry and I went to Outback tonight! So, - I was holding my weight for a couple of days there but now I'm sure I'm up again. I'll just have to hop back on the wagon - move over again!!!!

GATOR: Just a quick note - where will y'all be staying for the LSU/FLA game? We are getting a room for Friday night at the AmeriSuites. My friend is the manager there and he can get me a room cheap cheap! Since we are going for Friday night - do you want to meet for supper or something? Or - will you be getting in late? Let me know. I'd love to meet up. My husband said that we are going to Florida next year for that game - that's gonna be our road trip of the season. We just made plans to go to Kentucky this year.

BOB: We looked into going to the Tennessee game - but we couldn't get tickets - they were all sold out - that's where we really wanted to go. But, now we've booked Kentucky - it was really funny....we've got cousins that go to all of the away games - every year - all of them. Well, we booked our flights, rooms, etc. and then called them to tell them that we were going and guess what - that's the only F#*@&#$G game they aren't going to! Can you believe that s*!t? So, now we are going to Kentucky by ourselves! UGH!!!!!!!!! None of our friends are going. They are all going to the Tennessee game! I wish we could go there!

Well, let me run - - I've got tons of school work to do. I'll check back in soon - I've got to get back into the swing of being OP. See y'all later!!

Quickie before I hit the hay!

Did bad on water intake, I think maybe a half cup water all day-some days are just better than others I guess!

FILLISE, good luck with the scale tomorrow!

FRUIT, thought we lost you there again! Glad you checked in. HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY. Your not listed on the BIO BOARD, so I didn't have that info-sorry, didn't intentionally forget to list your bday. Outback-yummy!

BOB, got your e-mail, will respond tomorrow-Michael's waiting for the computer AGAIN! Hey, I can lie and just say I'm 39 again!!!! Maybe Eli will take me to Naples for dinner for my bday-would be nice to get away for the day (and night). It's not going to be the 40th I thought I'd have, but I guess I'll survive! No Chickfillet around here:( Will will be smart to get rid of Hardy, he's liked more than Nicole. Did you see LOST or AMAZING RACE-both pretty good-I'm glued!

NANCE, nope, haven't gotten them done, but does it count if I thought about it? I still have some pics on the roll in the camera, just figured I'd get them both done at the same time-you know, I'm a true procrastinator!!! When you speak to Lara, tell her I'm thinking about her. Tell the kids and Dan hello-how is Faris' arm coming along???

Oh my it's late but I just finished reading today's posts (while I chatted with my son on AIM). Maryland is so far away and I really miss him. There's just something special with a mom and sons, don't you think? (Those of you with sons.)

Anyway, the scales this morning just wouldn't budge so I'm still at 188. And I can't believe I'm sharing this. My husband doesn't even know my weight. He just knows I'm big. :o

Tonight was our first night of children's choir at our church and since I teach 5 year olds, I went straight from school to church. I scarffed down a chicken fajita and beans in 10 min. I couldn't believe they had whole wheat tortillas for us SB folks! After that was adult choir practice. So I was away from my house for 13 1/2 hours today. And I'm tired! Can't even get my bike ride in.

'fly: thanks for the instructions on the avatars. I hope mine works. Chihuahuas are my precious babies here next to me. They're blue, tho, but I've had blond ones too, so the pic is perfect for me.

Fruit: I grew up on N LA and sure do get homesick reading about your adventures at the LSU games. I graduated from NLU. I just cannot call it UL Monroe. It's not natural.

I just may have to watch the race show because there's a couple from my little town on the lake here in NTX. They are the Grourkes. That's probably spelled wrong. Anyway, they are the grandparents or retired couple, whichever way they're being publicized. I'll route for them all the way, even if I don't watch the show every week.

My eyelids are heavy and 6 am is coming much too soon. I'll be home earlier tomorrow night and hopefully will be able to post sooner, before everybody goes to bed!

Take care,
Jeanie

HI

I guess I have to type fast to post my small loss on WIW. I dropped one half pound, but I'll take it. Everything counts, Right???

THings here have been buzy, and I am really trying to walk every night, and I feel like it takes up thewhole evening. I either walk early and eat late, or eat early and walk late. Maybe I swhould give up work and walk in the morning.

I really need to get to bed, but I wanted to wish each and every one of you the great day tomorrow. We can win the small battle of being in control of our eating.

Have a great day>

Hi!

Can't type long, my right hand thumb area is very sore and swollen. I probably over did things.

I want to go shopping and the things I buy need to be in freezer. We keep freezer in garage and it frosts up, so I defrosted freezer, did wash, went to church to copy ,usic for tonight's choir practice, had car inspected, picked up new lens for glasses, made supper, went to choir practice and have now collapsed from sheer exhaustion and discomfort. Can't understand why!!!

I also weighed myself, down another 1/2#, I say not worth mentioning but Deb gets all hot and bothered about such discouraging thought!

Good night all. Just wanted you to know I'm still alive, kicking and griping!!!

Good Thursday Morning Everyone:wave:

I've started my day out right-already got in my 4.5 miles with 17 jogs in 52:10 and as I sit here, have almost downed 1.5 liters of water (much better than the 1 1/2 ounces I had yesterday!).

Has anyone made a EOM (end of month) goal for September? Mine is to hit 123-not anything big, since I'm at maintenance, but a goal just the same.

JRED, I'm sure it's not easy to be away from your son, but think about how wonderful it is to have a computer and be able to speak to him instantly, whereas the phone was the only other way years ago. I'm anticipating a breakdown when Michael graduates HS in 3 years! They've both been away from me for 8 weeks to go to camp, so I guess that gives me a little preview of them being gone when they hit college. Though, in being selfish, I must confess, not having to clean up after the two will be nice;) BTW, where is ROCKWALL near? I can totally relate to not telling anyone your weight-I never would tell anyone mine either until I lost most of it, though Eli always knew, unlike my former hubby-I would never in my life of told him my weight. I had the lady who I carpool with the other day ask me what I weigh now-before, I wouldn't tell her, not even back in June-but I told her this time, though I can't imagine why knowing that number seemed so imortant to her! Maybe cause she's smaller than me and wants to keep it that way:?: Anyhow, don't worry about the scale not budging, it's better than a gain!!!! There's next week to look forward to. You are definitely headed in the right direction.

LAMAP, congrats on another 1/2lb gone. Do you realize you are coming up to a big milestone?!? Less than 5lbs to go and you'll have less than 100lbs to go!!! That's awesome!!! 3 pounds to go til you hit the 80lb mark!!! WOO HOO!!!! I'm rooting for you!!!:D

SEF, do take care of yourself, we don't want you falling apart on us! I hope you try to take it easy, sounds like you are just doing too much, just reading your post and all you did made me tired! Congrats on another 1/2lb-and yes, I would get on your case if you didn't post it-I wish I could post that loss this week!!!!

Greetings!

Yesterday was packed full of Dr. visit, filing for unemployment, working on resume, reading up on the latest and greatest way to do them. Looked at different web sites; called friends who had called concerned, talked to a friend who turned in her notice at work because she's moving and she does very similar work to what I do and they could use my database skills with her being gone. My dad called and has given me some contact names with the bank he works with down here. The positions open there are mostly sales and, while I'm good at it, I just don't like sales as much as computers. I'm going to call and look into it though - ya never know. One of the branch openings is not even 5 minutes from my house, which would be really nice. I sent my resume to several friends and my dad to scrutinize for me. I may go ahead and send it out to a few job openings I have found already and 'tweak' it when I get their feedback.

tonight we're getting our new bed delivered. I'm excited and I think Vince is getting there. (You know men can't show all the enthusiasm that we can. ;) ) We leave tomorrow morning for New Smyrna Beach for the week-end. I'm looking forward to it, but not the thought of wearing a bathing suit in public. At least I got a new cute one that doesn't have my chest spilling out of it.

I probably won't be back online until Monday or Tuesday, but I'll try my best to catch up. Have a great week-end everyone!!

Ladies -

Had every intention of a nice long post today, then had to spend over an hour out of the office dealing with my car dealership. Just imagine, okay? It was not a pretty sight.

So, wanted to say glad you enjoyed my Maintenance Plan. Will work on perfecting over the weekend. For all you Bridget Jones fans, that's v.v.g.!

Have a great weekend and be back Sunday or Monday!

PS - For those of you who had thought good things about my Dad, thank you....:p , and wanted to let you know that the current tests were inconclusive due to a pneumonia condition and now he has to have another CATscan in 7 weeks. More hurry up and wait.....:( . But thanks so much for the good thoughts!

Today is "packing Thursday", the day we see if all my dd's stuff fits into 2 small cars to go back to university. One way or another it will, because neither car is going to grow. She may have to face the fact that 57 pairs of shoes are enough, and maybe she doesn't need 80 pairs or 12 lacrosse sticks, or 20 pairs of jeans. No matter what, my cooler of legal food is going in my car!

jred- I can totally empathize! Columbus is not as far from Philadelphia as Maryland is from Texas, but I will be really teary when I leave her there on Monday. Especially because this is her first year living off-campus and I think 19 is just way too young for that! But thank heavens for computers. Also, we got her a cell phone with a reasonably inexpensive nationwide calling plan (sprint, I think) that let her area code be her school location, and she can call us anytime without worrying about phone bills. It's worked out really well.

VAbutterfly- Thanks for the avatar instructions. I will try it, and you'll know if it worked.

Deb- Turning 40 wasn't so bad- besides it sounds like you look and feel better that you did a year or two ago, and would you really trade that for a number? Now 47 is another story.... :(

Today's been a so-so exercise day- couldn't drag myself out of bed fast enough to get in a whole weight workout- stayed up too late watching Sampras-Agassi- then just felt yuck and walked instead of running. But at least the food side is OK.

Well, gotta go stare at the growing pile of stuff on the living room floor. I's getting bigger!
Probably won't get back on the computer til Tuesday, so have a great weekend everyone!

Hi!

Board sure is slow today-where are you all????:?:

I'm starting to sport a headache-lovely! Didn't do much today-you'd think my home would be immaculate, but alas, it looks pretty bad. I did get some laundry done, washed my sheets and made my bed-I love getting into a clean, tightly made bed. I spray the sheets with linen spray-smells sooo good.

VIV, is life ever dull for you??

MEL, have a safe and good trip-not to mention a HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! You'll be away from home-how are you going to spend it-hope not on the road! You are so right, I feel better than I have in years even though 40 is lurking around the corner. I guess I've matured a bit with age, in more ways than one!!!

Hey Y'all!

Just a quick post so that you will know I'm still alive!!

DEB: Not only have you reached goal - but you are below it!!! That is so great! You are such and inspiration - but I do think you may need to make a trip here to get my big dimpled butt into gear!! Thanks for the belated birthday wishes - much appreciated! I need to add my stuff to the bio board again! Hopefully this time I won't get kicked off!!

JRED: I hear ya about that UL Monroe stuff - how dumb is all of that! I always say NLU or USL, etc. I don't think I'll ever get used to the new thing. Yeah - we do have lots of fun at the LSU games! I have friends from Ruston - which town did you grow up in. My step-mom is from Bastrop - that's pretty small!!! HAHA!

BOB: Kentucky game is set for October 13. Gonna be fun!

See y'all later!

One more day til the weekend! I swear 4 day weeks at school are twice as long as a regular week. In all my 25 years in the classroom, I've never been able to figure that out. This has to be a quick note 'cause I gotta prepare for tomorrow's class. Gifted 6th graders keep me on my toes. It's hard to stay a step ahead of them! I teach all the "identified" gifted in my school, a total of 60- with no textbooks, so I really earn my paycheck. But don't we all.

Deb: Rockwall is right outside of Dallas. It's on the eastern shore of Lake Ray Hubbard and is growing like a weed. A teacher friend of mine said it's like there's a wagon train of cars with all their stuff tied to the top. Our district gained over 600 kids this year and more are arriving every day.

Mel: Good luck with the "move." It's so hard letting those babies grow up. Your dd will be fine. Brandon bought his own cell just as soon as he could. As a plebe at USNA he didn't rate many extras. So it was late May before he could get it. It's been a real handy convenience.

I keep forgetting who to address things to!:dizzy:

I hope everyone has a great Friday and awesome weekend.
Congrats on the weight losses and hang in there on the stalls (like me) YOU CAN DO IT!!! (a favorite yell of Bella Karoyli) ( my baby girl spent a couple of weeks at his camp for a couple of summers.)

Still here!

I tried to slow down today. I only went to the nursing home this morning, which as you know I enjoy!

Then this afternoon a Bebefits rep or insurance came so I could sign up for a Medicare Plan. It will be such a finacial relief when that kicks in 10/1. Even called the doctor for an appointment after that date.

Then I took a nap. Lori was home today and she fixed supper.

I just of plugged along today.

Congrats to all the losers. And for us 1/2 pounders, at least it was down not up!

Take care. I am lurking and read, just can't sit for too long. At least the Board is slow and I can make a quick job of it.

Evening-quick post before I hit the hay.

Feeling a bit barfy tonight-TOM didn't come as I expected it to, but it WILL come for sure, just taking it's time I guess. Definitely making me hungrier than normal, ate a bit more than I should of, but at least it was all food OP.

FRUIT, wish I could get to you and kick your butt, then go shopping! LOL! Honestly, I wish kicking someone's butt would do the trick, but you know as well as I that it's all in your own hands. I wanted to reach goal more than anything else and that's what I focused on and I, for once, got what I worked darned hard for-and there isn't one person on this board that can't do the same-including you!!;) Def. get back on the BIO BOARD, I need to get you back on my mailing list!!!

JRED, you must be a very smart and good teacher! My son started the gifted classes in 2nd grade (that's the grade they started here back then), he left me in the dust in 3rd grade. I got him tested when he was in Kindergarten, and he had an IQ of 132 then (do they change?). He's now just started 10th grade in a magnet school, the IB acadamey and is taking, what his counselor said, is a full load. All AP courses but 1, I think, which if I am correct, is his 5th year French class. He really does amaze me-and I truly thank his Elementary gifted teachers for teaching him in a way that made him truly love school! As a teacher, you'll also be appreciative to know both my kids have perfect attendance:) I've been to Dallas, very nice city!!

SEF, glad to hear you took it a bit easier today-remember, be kind to yourself!!!

BOB, just who I thought would get evicted on BB did-should be an interesting week!!

Okay ladies, I'm outta here til tomorrow!!

I did a nice long post this morning and then my internet explorer messed up and I lost the whole thing. ARG! This will be much shorter!

Congrats to all the losers this week! I got home and the scale says 237. I tend to retain water when I fly so we'll give it a day or two to see if the flood gates open! I did get back to the gym today--60 minutes cardio plus the upper body weight circuit. It felt great!

It is so nice to sleep in my own bed after two weeks.mmmm I need to head there in a few minutes!

Nighty-nite everyone. I hope tomorrow is a good day for all!

Hey Y'all! I am having a busy week and haven't even lurked! But it appears that my internet connection at home is fully reconnected and I will be back posting wtih my usual regularity next week.

I have been exercising like a good girl. Disney Marathon is now less than 4 months away :dizzy: and that is no time to be slacking off. I have been running, even at the beach last weekend I ran 7.5 miles. Will run at the beach again this weekend. I joined a local gym and went and lifted weights last night for the first time in years. It was great!

I continue to show a slow and steady gain, which is NOT the direction I want to go. I find it hard to believe that I ran 13 miles or more last week and that I still managed to gain a pound  But I have to keep on the wagon and hope that the scales will start going in the other direction!

I go back to the doc this month and plan to talk to him about this medication and the impact is has had on my metabolism! I am at full strength on the dosage now, and hope that he is not planning on me taking this stuff ever. I'll keep you posted on that.

SOL - Sorry to hear about your job. Wish there was something I could do to improve the situation!

FLY - Gap Creek is supposed to be a great book, let me know how you like it.

BOB - I know you are watching BigBro. I love WILL because he is so "crafty" and fully admits it. I think he is playing the game very well. Nicole is such a basket case! I think that if Monica can remain in the house one more week that she will win. Will may only get votes from Mike Boogie and Shannon, Nicole will get 'em from Hardy and maybe Bunky, but Monica will get them from Krista, Kent and maybe some of the people who left early. I think she'll get those votes because the early outs have been able to watch the show to see how messed up Nicole and Will are. What do you think?

WELCOME TO ALL YOU NEWBIES

HAPPY BIRTHDAY FILLISE

I hope that all of you have a great weekend. Time to go pack for the beach and tidy the house. I have missed you all.

Peace,
FROG

Hello all!

I have a question.... Have any of you seen the latest on the SweetTalk board about the "fruit rule"? Apparantly, the new Kids SB book says it is OK to eat fruit with a meal if it doesn't cause you to have indigestion.... but isn't there other reasons why we have been told to do fruit alone?? What do you guys do, or think about it? I would love to have a piece of SGWW toast with SFPB and a Granny Smith apple in the morning for BF! What do you think??

I finally had my bloodwork done yesterday for the thyroid issue. I was supposed to get it done last week, but when I went the Doc had changed his hours and I couldn't get my paperwork! I didn't realize until they started increasing my dosage, and I started researching hypothyroidism, that some of the problems I have been complaining with could be related to my condition becoming worse (resulting in the need for my dosage to be increased, as has been happening). My hair has been coming out 2 or 3 x normal in the last couple of months and I've been having nighttime leg cramps, like the kind you get when you are pregnant (and I'm definately not PG). I've been taking calcuim supplements and they seemed to help for awhile, but not anymore - both legs cramped up on me at the same time early this morning :o I'm really anxious to see what the results look like this time!

My little one hit the ball 2 times in his first game last night! He was so cute. I got him a shirt and put his name and number on the back of it and got him a hat, cleats, ballpants and socks to match! He was styling on the baseball field (he knew it too!). It was hard to see my baby (only 4 years old) on the ballfield as a member of a real team!! They grow up so fast!!

Gotta go quick!
will check back later.

I'm up another lb this morning. Aarrgghh! I'm getting discouraged--I've been floating around the same 240-137 for two months now. I'm ready to move past this level.

Frog--See above--I sympathize! Have you checked progress with the tape measure? While my weight loss has stalled I have seen my wainst and hips shrink 1/2 inch each since July. I attribite that to the resumption of workouts. You should be seeing some progress somewhere! Also if you are adding muscle--remember that it does weigh more than fat, but also increases your metabolism! Hang in there!

Welcome to all the newcomers in the past couple of weeks!

This will be short since I posted last night.

BOB, GATOR, All the SEC gals--I have tickets to the Auburn/Ole Miss game tomorrow. I'm so excited. I was able to watch NC State beat up on Indiana last night (they are my REAL team, beingh the NC girl I am). I hope everyone's teams do well--except for Ole Miss of course!

Good Friday Morning Everyone!

Can't believe it's already the end of the week and the weekend is almost upon us-geez, I can't believe we're already a week in to September!

Went to take the garbage out this morning and it was sprinkling-but luckily, by the time Michael was ready to leave, it stopped, so I was able to get in the usual 4.5 miles-I did my 17 jogs as usual, time wise that is, but extended the length of them and was able to bring in a time of 50:15, not my fastest time, but a lot better than I've been doing recently, this was actually my SECOND FASTEST TIME! So, not to boast, but I'm pretty proud of myself:) To look back and see where I was just a few months ago and now this, it does amaze me!!!

Finally, TOM arrived, not that I was worried, I knew it would come, but I was hoping it would of been on time because now it seems next month it will come right on my birthday! Oh, what a lovely present for my 40th! Oh well, maybe next month it will be late again!

I heard from BEACHFAN via e-mail-she told me to tell everyone hello and that she misses the board. She's been really busy with work and hasn't been exercising as she'd like, but is trying to stay OP as best she can, esp. through many lunches out at restaurants. One thing she said really hit home for me in regards to making goal I do think maintaining is harder than losing. There is no immediate satisfaction that you have made a goal She mentioned maybe doing a 10K. Made me think-with SB, this is the first time I made a goal and actually made it and, even though it's only been 3 months that I've been at goal, staying here. What next?? I guess my next mini goal? A new time of walking goal? Does have me pondering my thoughts!

FILLISE, hope you are making those potty calls today-hope I make potty calls as well! Glad to have you back, safe and sound :) Don't worry about being up, you know it's just temporary!!!!

FROG, glad to have you back full force, missed ya! I agree on what you say about BB-Will was right in voting Hardy out, if he stayed he'd have a chance to win, but Nicole, I don't think she'd get many votes is she were staying-hopefully, she'll be outta there next! Don't worry about the scale-I'm sure it's the medication and the muscle you are probably gaining. When I look back at my WC program I see that I am the same weight today that I was as far back as 2 months ago-and 2lbs higher than my lowest weight-but I'm confident that staying OP and being patient will show a loss one day soon-so keep the faith, my dear!

TV, here's the skinny on the fruit rule. If fruit doesn't bother you at all, you can eat it with other foods-BUT, the reasoning behind that is best explained by Montignacs Book (hope this helps answer your question):

Fresh fruit should preferably be eaten on an empty stomach. This particular advice has little to do with the weight loss in which we are interested. It is instead to assure better digestive comfort because the consumption of fruit at the end of a meal, as is often the habit, can cause digestive problems.

The digestion of fruit begins in the mouth with the chewing and ends in the small intestine. Fruit, then, has nothing to do in the stomach but go through it. When fresh fruit is eaten after foods containing proteins, such as meat or cheese, it is blocked for a certain amount of time in the stomach by the digestion of the proteins even though it would prefer to pass quickly to the intestines. Fruit is imprisoned in the stomach and, under the effects of heat and humidity, may ferment, sometimes even causing a small amount of alcohol to be produced. The whole digestive process could then suffer (bloating).

Fruit should be eaten whenever you have an empty stomach - in the morning for example, before breakfast. But you should wait about fifteen minutes before beginning to eat something else, in order to allow it to pass easily through the stomach. You could also eat fruit late at night before going to bed, that is, at least three hours after the end of dinner. A piece of fruit could be eaten in the middle of the afternoon. But you should also be sure to leave a sufficient amount of time following lunch (about 3 hours) and before dinner.

As all rules have exceptions, some kinds of fruit, because they have a very low concentration of sugar, do not ferment easily. Included in this category are STRAWBERRIES, RASPBERRIES, BLACK CURRANTS, RED CURRANTS and BLACKBERRIES, which can be eaten with no problem at the end of a meal.

Cooked fruits can also be eaten at the end of meals because they lose the ability to ferment in the stomach. Lemon does not ferment either, so you can drink its juice (unsweetened) at any time or use it to flavor food.

Well, today is FRIDAY FACTS and I don't think I've ever posted this entire article before, and usually, I just post a link to the site, but have found many times that sites have a tendency to just disappear, never to be seen again, so I am posting the whole enchilada below-thought it was interesting enough to share with you all.

This article was published in FDA Consumer magazine several years ago. It is no longer being maintained and may contain information that is out of date. You may find more current information on this topic in more recent issues of FDA Consumer or elsewhere on the FDA Website, by checking the site index or home page, or by searching the site.

Not Only Sugar Is Sweet
by Alexandra Greeley

Plain table sugar and its numerous taste-alikes may be one of our most
popular food commodities. People come by their love for sweetness naturally. According to the experts, humans are born generally preferring sweet over bitter or sour tastes.

Sweeteners make many foods taste better. And natural sugars have a host of other valuable culinary?and practical?uses, including adding bulk to baked goods, helping foods to brown, and facilitating fermentation. But despite their immense popularity, sweeteners, particularly table sugar, have generated their share of sour publicity because of health concerns.

What Is Sugar?

Traditionally for most consumers the generic term ?sugar? means simply the white sugar crystals, or table sugar, that are stirred into or sprinkled on foods.

These familiar crystals are technically known as sucrose. Sucrose is a
disaccharide--that is, it's composed of two simple sugar units, in this case, glucose and fructose. White sugar comes from sugar cane or sugar beets that have undergone a rigorous refining process. White sugar crystals can be used as is, compressed into cubes, or further pulverized to superfine, then to confectioner?s, or powdered, sugar. Brown sugar results from mixing white sugar crystals with molasses. Other forms of sucrose are beet sugar, maple sugar, turbinado sugar, and raw sugar.

Sucrose, however, is only one of a subgroup of sugars (see accompanying chart), and all sugars are carbohydrates. Monosaccharides, or single sugar units, include glucose, fructose and galactose. Monosaccharides also are the digestive end product of polysaccharides, the complex carbohydrates (starches) in fruits, grains and vegetables. Other disaccharides besides sucrose include lactose (glucose and galactose), also called milk sugar, and
maltose (two units of glucose), also called malt sugar.

For labeling use and for making comparative claims, the Food and Drug
Administration defines sugars as all mono-, di-, tri-, and tetrasaccharides and their derivatives, such as sugar alcohol, says Youngme Park, Ph.D., a nutritionist with FDA's Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition. He says this includes all carbohydrate sweeteners with the same functional and physiological effect that can be used interchangeably in the food supply.

After complex carbohydrates are broken down to simple sugars (most sugars and carbohydrates are eventually broken down to glucose), the sugars are absorbed into the bloodstream and go to the liver. There they may be stored as glycogen or used immediately as glucose for energy by the body or brain.

"The body uses glucose as its simplest form of energy," says Judith Wurtman, Ph.D., research scientist in the Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. "So for people who need calories, that is, those who are recovering from an operation or who are shipwrecked, sugar can keep them alive."

Thomas Jukes, Ph.D., professor of biophysics at the University of California at Berkeley, tells of his experiments feeding laboratory rats protein, vitamins, minerals, and sugar as the sole source of carbohydrates. The rats thrived, he says. "Fish is not a brain food," concludes Jukes. "Glucose is."

Sucrose occurs naturally in most green plants, says Sarah Setton, vice
president for public affairs, The Sugar Association, Washington, D.C. It is produced by photosynthesis, which is the use of the sun's energy in the formation of food by plants. People would have to stop eating fruits and vegetables and any products incorporating them to cut sugar out of their diet. People seem to think that there is a difference between sugar in an apple and sugar in the sugar bowl," she adds. "But the way the body uses sugar is all the same. The body can?t tell where the sugar is from."

A Taste for Sweets

Americans have become conspicuous consumers of sugar and sweet-tasting foods and beverages. We have developed a relentless sweet tooth, "a severe addiction to sweetness," says Joan Gussow, Ed.D., professor of nutrition and education at Columbia Teachers College, Columbia University in New York City.

According to U.S. Department of Agriculture data on the amount of caloric sweeteners used in food, there has been an increase of more than 16 percent on a per person basis over the past two decades, and more than half of the increase has occurred in the past five years. Caloric sweeteners include sugar, high-fructose corn syrup, pure honey, and edible syrups.

Paul Lachance, chairman of the department of food science at Rutgers
University in New Jersey states it another way. He estimates that, based on a 2,000-calorie-a-day diet, the average American consumes about 300 calories from sugars added to food. That comes to nearly 14 teaspoons of table sugar a day.

Gussow has her own theory about why sugar is so prominent in the American diet. It's for taste, she says. "I grow my own vegetables and fruit. And when I pick, cook and eat my parsnips, for example, they are as sweet as sugar," she says. "But food is shipped all over the place, and when food gets too old, much of the sugar turns to starch. The natural sweetness is gone, and people sugar food to give it flavor."

As yet, no scientist has established any limits for sugar consumption. In the typical American diet today (composed of about 45 percent carbohydrates, 20 percent protein, and 30 to 35 percent fat) all added and naturally occurring sugars account for about 21 percent of the total daily caloric intake. A 1986 FDA report estimated that sugars added to food accounted for 11 percent of calories consumed.

Yet if people eat increasingly larger quantities of caloric (nutritive)
sweeteners in general, these could compete with and crowd out other
nutrients, warns Jane Hurley, associate nutritionist at the Center for
Science in the Public Interest, Washington, D.C. People may consume many of their calories each day from a sugary soft drink or candy bar. "Those foods have few important nutrients we need," she says. "People are better off having an apple as a snack than a candy bar."

The Safety Issue

Over the last several decades, sugar has taken on the villain's role in the American diet. General sugar-bashing has led to "sugarphobia" as Jukes calls it and the unfounded fear that eating refined sugar causes many health problems, including heart disease, diabetes, anxiety, fatigue, depression, hyperactivity, and even criminal behavior.

But, in fact, added sugar at current levels is not detrimental to health.
According to the landmark 1986 FDA Report of Sugars Task Force, sugar, when consumed normal or moderate quantities, cannot be linked to any disease, nor does it create a dependency.

Walter Glinsmann, M.D., FDA's associate director for clinical nutrition and senior author of the task force report, explains that members of the task force estimated the intake figures and trends of both added and naturally occurring sugars, based on USDA data. They also reviewed the scientific literature dealing with possible harmful effects of sugar consumption on numerous conditions, including tooth decay, glucose tolerance, diabetes mellitus, lipidemias (high blood fat), cardiovascular diseases, obesity, gallstones, and cancer. "Based on that work," says Glinsmann, "we decided that sugars are safe as they are now used in the food supply." If there is a significant change in the way Americans consume sugars, he adds, then scientists must reevaluate their role.

As Glinsmann observes, FDA does not say that eating unlimited amounts of sugars is safe. "There are not good or bad foods, only good or bad diets," he says. "If half your diet is pure sugar, that is not healthy. ... In a normal, varied diet, there are no adverse effects of sugar itself."

The task force did find that sugar can cause dental cavities, he says, but adds that so can other fermentable carbohydrates, such as dried fruit and honey, under the right conditions.

Despite the report, some consumers persist in linking sugar consumption with assorted ills, such as hyperactivity and aggressive behavior in children. This is often reported by parents who say that their children are uncontrollable after eating candy and other sugary sweets.

Glinsmann points out that sugar has not been shown to be a factor in
hyperactivity. Studies of children and adolescents at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md., and elsewhere have looked at groups of individuals served sugar or a placebo (an inactive substance given as a control when testing another substance). Glinsmann points out that no researcher has found that sugar has had any discernible negative effect on children's behavior. To the contrary, sugar often has a soothing effect.

It also calms adults, says Wurtman, who has studied the relationship between carbohydrate consumption and mood. When people report having a sugar high or jitters, Wurtman asks them what was happening before they took a mouthful of something sweet. "When people feel the need to eat," she says, "They usually are jittery. But 20 minutes after eating, they are no longer jittery." In fact, the opposite happens: After eating sugar, people become calm or even sleepy, she says, an effect caused by sugar raising the level of a calming rain chemical called serotonin. Sugar in its pure form is the best
nonprescription antidepressant, she says.

Sugar by Other Names

Numerous nutritive and nonnutritive substitutes for sucrose vie for its place as a sweetener. All nutritive substitutes - such as honey, concentrated fruit juices, dextrose (also known as glucose), maple and corn syrups, fructose (levulose or fruit sugar), sugar alcohols, and high-fructose corn syrup contain and contribute calories.

Perhaps the most commonly used nutritive sweetener is high-fructose corn syrup, a sweet product manufactured from cornstarch and containing a high level of fructose, explains Kyd Brenner, director of public affairs for the Corn Refiners Association in Washington, D.C. High-fructose corn syrup is very close to the composition and calorie content of cane sugar, he says, and the syrup can be used as a direct and inexpensive substitute for cane sugar when liquid sweeteners are called for. It is used extensively in soft drinks, condiments, jams, jellies, and wine and is not available for home use.

Of the sugar alcohols, sorbitol (60 percent as sweet as sucrose with about the same number of calories per gram) is used in such products as hard and soft candies and chewing gums. Xylitol, another sugar alcohol, has limited FDA approval for special dietary uses. A third sugar alcohol, mannitol, has been removed from the GRAS (generally recognized as safe) list, and is regulated as an 'interim' food additive. This means that its current use is considered safe, but some questions have been raised that must be resolved to fully determine what limitations, if any, should be imposed. Mannitol is still being used in some products.

Both mannitol and sorbitol, when taken in large amounts, can cause diarrhea. Products whose reasonably foreseeable consumption may result in a daily ingestion of 50 grams of sorbitol or 20 grams mannitol must bear the labeling statement: "Excess consumption may have a laxative effect."

The sugar polymer polydextrose, because of its bulking properties, is used to replace a number of the technical effects of sucrose in various baked goods, salad dressings, frozen desserts, and candies. Because of its structure, polydextrose is not readily digested, so it is a low-calorie sucrose substitute. But it does not provide sweetness, so it is likely to be used with a nonnutritive sweetener. FDA is presently considering petitions for its use in other products such as in fruit and peanut butter spreads, sweet sauces, toppings, and syrups, and as a formulation aid in film coatings in vitamin and mineral supplement tablets.

Nonnutritive Sweeteners

Nonnutritive, or high-intensity, sweeteners satisfy America's sweet tooth without adding calories. Presently, manufacturers are using three such sweeteners to replace sugar in a variety of food and nonfood items such as mouthwashes and pill coatings.

One of these is saccharin, 300 times sweeter than table sugar and with zero calories. It is sold in liquid, tablets, packets, and in bulk. Saccharin has had a stormy past, with studies in the United States and Canada implicating it in the development of certain cancers. In the late 1970s, FDA contracted with the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) to study cancer-causing agents and toxic substances in foods, including saccharin. NAS reports showed that saccharin is a potential cancer-causing agent in humans. A congressional moratorium protecting saccharin's continued use has been renewed periodically
by Congress. The required label warning on saccharin states, "Use of this product may be hazardous to your health. This product contains saccharin which has been determined to cause cancer in laboratory animals."

Aspartame - about 200 times sweeter than table sugar and with the same number of calories per teaspoonful has been shown to be safe. However, some people have reported that they are sensitive to it, although such a sensitivity has not been confirmed by scientific studies. Certain individuals suffering from a rare genetic disease called phenylketonuria cannot tolerate the amino acid phenylalanine, one of the building blocks of aspartame as well as naturally occurring proteins. Therefore, products containing aspartame must bear on the
label a statement that they contain phenylalanine. Aspartame is available in packets and is used in numerous foods, including cereals, beverage bases, and ready-to-drink iced tea, but because it is not generally heat stable, it is not used for cooking. Food technologists have been working on ways to overcome this instability.

Acesulfame K (K is the chemical symbol for potassium)-130 times sweeter than table sugar?was approved by FDA in July 1988 as a sugar substitute in packets or tablets and as an ingredient in such products as chewing gum, dry drink mixes, and gelatins. The body does not metabolize acesulfame K so itcontributes no calories. Soluble in water, it is stable at normal temperatures and does not break down during cooking.

FDA banned the use of the sweetener cyclamate in 1970 because of concerns over its safety, but cyclamate is again under consideration for use in specific products, such as tabletop sweeteners and nonalcoholic beverages.

Under Development

Scientists continue to develop new sugar substitutes. For example, among the nutritive sweeteners, petitions for the use of the sugar alcohols isomalt (in gelatins, hard and soft candies, and baked goods), maltitol (in candy and cough drops), lactitol (in candy, chewing gum, baked goods, and frozen dairy desserts), and hydrogenated starch hydrolisates (in candy, chewing gum, and confections) are under current FDA review, says Art Lipman, Ph.D., a supervisory consumer safety officer with FDA's direct additives branch.

FDA has also received numerous inquiries about the regulatory status of a naturally occurring high-intensity sweetener known as stevia (or stevioside), says Lipman. Extracted from a plant grown in South America, stevia is 300 times sweeter than table sugar and is used for sweetening in Japan and other countries. Lipman says no petition has been filed for its use in the United States.

Two nonnutritive sweeteners being studied, says George Pauli, Ph.D.,
chief of the novel ingredients and policy development branch. These are alitame (Pfizer), which is chemically similar to aspartame, and sucralose (McNeil Specialty Products Co.), a chlorinated sucrose that has been made indigestible. FDA is also considering petitions for additional uses of the sweetener acesulfame K in beverages and baked goods and of aspartame for bulk use and in breakfast cereals, malt beverages, candies, and cooked foods.

Eating foods sweetened with nonnutritive sweeteners rather than sugar is an individual choice, says Laura Tarantino, an FDA consumer safety officer. Our law says only that we [FDA] need to assess the safety of a new food additive and its technical effect," she says. "Nonnutritive sweeteners are safe to use. But we don't tell people to replace sugar with artificial sweeteners."

In the future, consumers wanting to know which sweeteners are present in their foods need only read the label. According to an FDA labeling proposal, all sweeteners will be listed together in the ingredient list, under the collective term 'sweetener,' when more than one sweetener is used in a product (following the collective term, each sweetener would be listed in parentheses in descending order of predominance by weight of the sweetener in the food). According to an FDA proposal published late in 1991, it would be mandatory for all complex carbohydrates and simple sugars to be listed on the
nutrition label, says Lynn Larsen, Ph.D., director of the Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition's Executive Operations Staff.

People may have an inherent preference for sweetness, and that may have helped our ancestors survive, since bitter-tasting plants are generally not fit to eat. But beyond survival, people seem to have discovered that sweet flavors really help make eating pleasurable.

Hi everyone

Just checking in to say Hi to you all. Wasn't able to post yesterday. Had a very busy day at work then baby sat for a couple of hours in the evening which meant kids hogging the computer and then I had to play a game of dominoes. The favorite non-computer game at present. Had another busy day at work to-day, didn't even have time to lurk. I just sat down after finishing supper. Made pizza, SB legal of course. I always think of it as a quick and easy meal and then am surprised at how long it takes to get everything chopped up and ready. Also got delayed as Dr. Andrews came on TV at 6 p.m. talking about the new SB for Kids book. I made two pizzas and put one in the freezer. We'll see how it turns out.

Deb - Congrats on the walk. I really admire you getting out there every morning - even on the days that you don't feel like doing it. When it comes to making goals while maintaining I think the main goal has to be that you will NOT gain back what you have lost. Just tell yourself that in, say, three months time you will still be where you are now give or take a pound or two as there are always some fluctuations. It's good to keep up with the exercises and to try and improve your times but the #1 goal has to be to maintain the loss which you have worked so hard to achieve. Thanks for posting the article Not Only Sugar etc. I haven't had a chance te read it all yet but will get to it later. I picked up a copy of The Glucose Revolution Life Plan from the library yesterday. Haven't read much of it yet but will let you know if there is anything interesting in it.

Frog - Welcome back. Sorry to see that the scale is going in the wrong direction but I agree with what Filllise says about building muscle with all the exercise you are doing and of course muscle does weigh more than fat. Have you noticed any difference with your clothes. Maybe you are losing inches.

Fillise - Sorry to see you are up a pound but I am sure it is only temporary. Once you get lots of H2o in that pound should float away. I know what it is like though to stay the same for weeks on end but at least you have lost inches and that is just as important as the pounds.

TV - There was another reason that the SB authors gave for the fruit rule. This is a quote from page 131 of the book: "Most fruits contain the basic sugar fructose and stimulate approximately one third the insulin secretion stimulated by glucose. Consequently, fruit alone as a snack is very beneficial but in combination with other carbohydrates loses the advantage of lower insulin secretion that is achieved when eaten by itself." Personally I cannot see how this is beneficial as if eaten with other carbs it could lower the gi of the total meal (depending on whether the other foods were mainly absorbed in the stomach or intestines). Just MHO. I don't think this is mentioned in the new kids book (I've only skimmed through it in the book store) as it says that it is o.k. to eat fruit with a meal if it doesn't cause indigestion. So if you like to eat an apple in the morning with your breakfast I would go ahead and try it. I've eaten fresh fruit occasionally either before or immediately following a meal with no ill effects. That must be fun watching those little tikes playing baseball. They are so cute at that age.

Sef - How are you feeling to-day. Hope you had a good rest after your busy day yesterday.

Sol - How was the new bed. Did Vince have to bounce you out of it in the morning

Lamap - Half a pound down!!!!! - that's certainly better than staying the same or going up. Take every little bit you can.

Rhroo - Your kids soccer games are just starting and my daughters kids are just finishing. Where do they play, inside or outside? Hope you enjoy the games. Coaching too - WOW - that should be fun. I think it is always fun to watch the little ones play.

Have to stop rambling and get my lunch ready for tomorrow as I am off to work again in the morning (and Sunday) so should try to get an early night.

Have a good weekend everyone.

What a day! Will the rain stay away? Will he barometer go up? Someday I hope. Did wash, defrosted my little fridge up here, went to Sam's (that meant unloading everything) and made a huge pot of chili to be able to freeze some.

Of course, all that made my hand flare up again and I am aching all over; but you can't sit and do nothing for so long. Besides it didn't seem to be helping!

I cleaned up the mess I made cooking and filled a bowl for the freezer. I ate early and brought my supper up here. I know they don't mind cleaning up after themselves.

I am so far behind on posts can't possibly answer all. Just know I am thinking of y'all and miss the give and take of the posts.

Maybe tomorrow I will be able to write more.

Take care, I am lurking!!!

Hurrahh the cookie cravings have abated and Im getting my energy back
Its a beaut day here and Ive just come in from the garden. I have had no inclination to get out there for months so its a real turn up :)

Read the SUGAR ARTICLE posted above with interest but thought it gave sugar the thumbs up???

I bought the book 'Protein Power' a few days ago and its really interesting. Its packed with so much info!
Have worked out my body fat and lean body mass. From that if I want to 22% BF at goal which is the low average for my age, my goal weight needs to be 130 not 125 as in Bee125. 130 will do me fine. At 28% which is the high average Id be 140. Unless my lean body mass changes along with my weight, but its something to go by for now anyway.
I am really watching my carbs now Im getting into the swing of things.

Got some gourgeous jam couple of days ago, no not the Jokn'Al still havnt seen that , but St.Dalfour and it comes from France. Its just like the real fruit very tasty and yum. Gotta have something nice to put on those few and far between bits of toast eh.

Ok Im off for a nice bath

Good Saturday Morning Everyone:wave:

Went to a few garage sales today, or should I rename them GARBAGE SALES-very few and such junk! Should of had mine today as I had thought I would weeks ago, yet the procrastinator in me put it off once again.

BOB, any good movies?

ROSALIE, how was your pizza? I mentioned to Eli last night that I couldn't believe it's been 1 1/2 years since I had a real slice of pizza. Thanks for your insight on maintenance and where to go from here. I do have the goal of hiding the scale after the New Year, does that count??? Let me know what you think about The Glucose Revolution Life Plan book-will be interested in knowing.

SEF, hate hearing that your hand bothers you so much-please, take care of yourself-you need to just sit there and pretend to be QUEEN FOR THE DAY, or maybe longer!

BEE, glad to hear someone has nice weather, it's been raining here the past few days. I posted the article cause I thought it was informative-gosh knows, how anyone in their right mind could give sugar a thumbs up is beyond me, but I guess when compared to all the imitation stuff, one would think it was better than aspertame, saccarhine, etc. Glad you found some good jam-did JoknAl write you back yet?

Gonna go make an omelette, already had 2 fruits, Asian pear and raspberries-that gives me 21 grams of fiber all ready for the day!!!! Found more Monsterra at the market-YEAH! I love that fruit, now, just have to be patient and wait for it to ripen.

Hope you all have a wonderful SB legal weekend!!:D

Yes, my birthday has finally arrived & I did NOT get to goal which was 140, but the consolation is that I'm only 4 lbs away, so I can cope with that. :D

I had to work another hectic 12 hr shift yesterday, so we did not leave for Texas till 7:30 pm, so we got to DD's about 11pm last night. It has been raining alot here the past few weeks, so since she has a long muddy drive, we had to park at the road & walk in. *she lives in rural are* So I', walking down the drive carrying a couple of bags & the next thing I know, I'm looking at the stars LOL I can laugh about it this am, but trust me, I was not happy about it then. I was still in my white uniform & shoes & bot was I a mess. My head even bounced as I hit the ground. But I'm ok...just hurt my pride... :o Anyway, wanted to check in & say hi...Thanks for the Birthday card, gals

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MELRIS

We're attending a gospel concert tonight after we go out to eat, but first, DD & I are off to WalMart...

Good Morning everyone and Happy Birthday Melf! I hope it is a joyous day for you!

I'm trying to talk myself into going to the gym before I go to the game. Saturday is not a usualy gym day for me, but I've been off schedule for two weeks and this would allow me to get a second workout in for this week and go back to me MWF schedule next week.

Deb--congrats on the walking time--second best--wooo-hooo! I beleive you do need to look for some other goals. Mayber not right away, but eventually you will reach a point where you have lost all the weight you can lose. What would you like to accomplish next--health wise--or even in your life?

BOB--I LOVE going to football games! It is supposed to rain today, but we are sitting where we will be dry if it does. Good luck to UT with Arkansas! Did you get to see my wolfpack beat up on Indiana on Thurs. night? When I was in grad school in Iowa they kep telling me that there was nothing like Big Ten football. I had just come from the University of Georgia and thought that if they are worse here than they were in Athens, then they are some serious nuts. But not to worry---those Big Ten people ain't got nothing on the SEC! Theyjust show up for the games on Saturday--no campers--no serious tailgates--no pinted cars--no toilet paper in trees--no bell ringing after victories. It was down right wimpy if you ask me!

BEE125--it looks like you are really getting serious! You go girl!

Got to go if I'm going to get to the gym before the game.

Happy Birthday Melf and Meliris!!!

BOB - Sorry I can't wish UT good luck today. We have serious ties with UofA. My dad got his doctorate there, my brother received his BA there and my nephew is a junior there. He's in the band, plays tenor drums. Those are the ones they carry over their shoulders, all 5! Hope it's a good game, no matter the outcome. Last week AR didn't make a first down til the third quarter and still won the game!

I'm listening to the Navy/Georgia Tech game, it's now 70 - 7 GT. Our poor Navy guys just can't get a break. The line was GT by 35 and they almost doubled it. As my son said, GT is ranked 13.

If you ladies ever have the chance, I highly recommend a day of pampering. I wanted one for my bday and spent about 2 1/2 hours at the salon. Had a hot wax manicure, a European facial and a full body massage. HEAVEN!! I was so relaxed, I had a hard time walking out. Now we're on our way to CompUSA for some computer toys. My girls got a wish list out of me and will be heading out as soon as Becca gets back from ballet. They've started Nutcracker rehearsals for early December performances.

Bee- I've never known anyone in N.Z. Nice to get to know you.

Fruit- I grew up in Monroe but was born in Mansfield. My dad worked at NLU for 21 years, then retired back to DeSoto parish. I know all about Bastrop, too!

Sef- Sorry you're feeling poorly. I haven't been on long enough to know the specifics, but hope you start feeling better real soon.

Deb- the scales finally gave up two more pounds. Now, if I can just contain myself at dinner tonight. My favorite restaurant in the area is a Cajun place called Pappadeaux (pronounced pa pa doe for anyone who cares). That's where we're going and I'm going to try my best to stay OP.

It's clouding up again, we haven't had the storms that hit OK yesterday but it looks like they're on their way.

Hope everyone has a good evening.

Hey All:wave:

Raining here since I got home from garbage sales-gloomy out there, makes me want to climb into bed again, just may do so with a nice magazine-but with my luck, I'll probably fall asleep and as soon as I do, the phone will ring to go p/u Michael (he went ice skating).

MELF, oh my goodness, I hope you are okay after that fall! Thank goodness your pride is the only thing that was hurt, I just hope nothing starts aching from it. Enjoy your birth day!!!!

FILLISE, good for you for going to the gym today! Kudos to you! I have a few clues of some accomplishments, though not health related-clean my house and get some order to it, find a REAL p/t job after the first of the year-still pondering the ideas:)

JRED, CONGRATULATIONS, wow, another 2lbs! That alone should keep you OP tonight during dinner!!!! Sounds like the place you are going will have seafood, which, depending on how it's prepared, can easily fit under SB guidelines. Just keep that big 10# loss in the forefront of your mind!!! Hope you enjoy your shopping spree-sounds like you had a nice and relaxing day being pampered. What are your b.day plans for tomorrow????

Gonna go read-hope you all are enjoying your weekend!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MELIRIS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bee - I love that St. Dalfour jam too. My favorite is the blackcurrant - it is choc a bloc full of fruit and is delicious.

Deb - I guess any goal counts, as long as it is something that you really want, even hiding the scale. Maybe you could make a goal of only weighing once a week now that you have reached your weight goal. It would be nice to hide the d....thing forever but we know that it cannot be as once we get to goal we have to be vigilant to make sure the pounds don't creep back on again. You for sure have come too far to let that happen. So unfortunately the scale has to be part of our life but hopefully a much smaller part than it has been/is.

Melf HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!! - Sorry to hear about your fall. Glad to hear that there were no physical injuries but then hurt pride is no fun either. Hope you have a good visit with your dd and family.

Jred - Congrats on the 2 pounds lost. That day of pampering you had sounded wonderful.

Bye for now.

Marie.

Hello Everyone :wave :

Sorry :o I haven't been on, I've been soooo busy with the kids and work and going to the gym that I haven't had much time for myself. I start school back up to in a couple of weeks.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ALL OTHER SEPTEMBER B-DAYS. 29 YEARS FOR ME. :^:

I've been doing real good with SB and getting in shape. I have much more ambition when it's not hot outside. DH is going to have surgery on his knee, so that won't be fun, but he'll feel better afterwards. He can't work out with me right now and it really sucks.

Well all you great SB girls take care and hopefully one of these days life will calm down a bit, but hightly unlikely.

Hi everyone - sorry I haven't been around lately. Been one busy week. A couple of deaths in the Village - officials; and several meetings - has kept me busy and unable to get on here.

How is everyone doing? I actually had a good week. Lost 4 pounds. :D Don't ask me how. The only thing I know for sure is that I added a lot of water to my daily routine. Found out that if I drink it from the tap instead of refrigerated or by adding ice, I can drink a lot more. I also added a dumbbell exercise program three days a week. Anyway I'll take it.

It's very warm here today - I love it, as long as I don't have to do anything.:) Tomorrow I'm going glambing at a casino in Canada. Can't wait - I love that too, but I'm careful about how much money I take with me.

Just wanted to check in. Hopefully I can get on here more often.

Took me an hour to post a reply and I have to do it over again. You may not get anymore images from me again. So no color tonight. Good thing I wrote down all my responses. Had 25 teens over here today and I'm pooped.

Deb-Glad to hear Michael takes full advantage of his intellectual ability. Ben could do the advanced programs but is unwilling to work at it. But, I'm not complaining. I'm happy he's doing so well as it is. Can't believe you'll be 40 soon. When's the big day? My eom goal is to hit 160. I'm at 164 today. Only four pounds away. I was surprised too about your inquiring carpool person.

Fillese-All right on the gym. I've been bad. Deb's gonna have to kick my butt. Speaking of butts. I love football too. Especially when they get into position. hee hee.

fruitloupe-ok, now you're back on track. Don't you just love the Outback? Happy birthday to you.

Bob-What color is our wagon? Would it be orange? Is the North and South the one with Patrick Swayze? Isn't he scrumptous?

Nance-They haven't changed Nursing shoe color? With all the choices in clothing? What kind of patterns did you pick?

Quilter-Miss you. Come back. Ldblonde, Sparkle, Karen, Purple Delight, Belinda Wanna too

jred-Isn't it great to share our weight and not be judged here? Two pounds down! Wonderful!!!! I know I'll miss my son too when he leaves the nest.

lamap-congrats on the loss too.

sef-another loser! Man I was tired with your schedule on Friday. Doesn't the nh make you feel young? That hand, ugh! Hope it settles down. Does the weather make it worse?

Bee-So glad you tamed the Cookie Monster and the flour monster too. You enjoy the spring. I'm looking forward to apple cider, the leaf change, haunted hayrides and pumpkin carving. I can almost feel the crispness in the early morning. 3 lbs. whooo hoo!!!

Sol-Have fun at the beach in your new suit. Looking forward to the bed report.

viv-car dealers are right up there with lawyers in my book. So sorry about your dad. Thanks for keeping us posted.

Mel=Happy Birthday! I laughed at your description of all stuff dd is taking. I dread "throwing my baby to the lions" one day soon.

catlover-is it dry there yet? How well do you drive in the rain?

Frog-missed you. 13 miles you go. Hang in there. It is maddening to be stuck. I'm with you. Seems impossible not to have lost. Let us know what the doc says about the meds. Give us an update on BW if you can.

Tv-I wait 1/2 hour for fruit. Congrats on the hits for your little guy. I know if mom's hopes could make a difference....all our little ones will hit homers.

Rosalie-Did you spoil all those little ones silly? I haven't played dominos in a while. Think I'll dust off that game. The black currant sounds yummy. You find the best flavors!

Melf-Happy birthday. What a rotten way to end a long day of work and a long drive. On your tush. Hope nothing hurts. At least you had a sense of humor about it. Enjoy your time with dd.

Raly-congrats on the loss. Hope dh surgery goes well.

linmae-awesome 4 lbs too! All that running around and water. Have fun at the casino.

ok, fingers crossed.

HELLO, HELLO, HELLO!!!!!

Yes, I'm here, just another crazy week. I hope everybody is doing just super and that you all have had successes of all sorts this past week. Please forgive me for being absent this week. I feel the need to explain.

Here's what's happening. Paul and I are walking every night AFTER work!!! It's so exciting. I am thrilled beyond words that he agreed to this and has been really making the extra effort to get home at a decent time so that we can go. There's a beautiful little park by us that has a half-mile loop (I've spoken of it before!) so we've been over there with Miss Maddie strutting our stuff. I think he's actually enjoying it. ANYWAYS, that really takes a chunk out of my evening and pushes everything else back later, like supper and cleaning up and general chores. Plus I must admit that this past week, I have been spending more time than I like in front of the tv for the US Open. And since that will be over this afternoon, I will have more evening time to do my high priority things like keep in closer contact with my friends. So there's the confession.

Our eating has been pretty good. For the past month I have been hooked on FRUIT. (Of course, right when it all starts to go out of season!) For breakfast I have some blueberries, sliced strawberries and peaches with a little sweetener with milk poured over it. Kind of like eating cereal and fruit but with no cereal. It's very filling and I usually stay full until lunch. Yesterday when I bought blueberries the price was 1.99--same as last week. But they had switched the box size to HALF the size it was last week. Geesh! This can only get worse! Any ideas on what to do in the dead of winter when there is no fresh fruit?????

Well, gals, hope you all are well. Keep smiling and keep losing. See you soon.
Kim

Good Sunday Morning All:wave:

Got in my 4.5 miles this morning, just walked, was very wet out there and got a late start, but at least I went. Got back right in time, it started to pour 5 minutes after I returned.

Eli is off today and the kids spend the day with their Dad, so I have him all to myself. I think we'll head up to Broward as usual (hate giving Dade County any more money), and hit OLE OLE, Carbolite (no idea of the flavors today), Whole Food (more Asian pears) and maybe the indoor flea market-never know where we'll end up!!!

BOB, what are you up to today?????

ROSALIE, I still think I have to weigh daily, at least til the New Year, THEN, I'll hide the scale and bring it out only on WIW. I do believe too that it's going to be something I have a love/hate relationship with for the rest of my life. I think if it's outta sight, it's outta mind and not knowing what I weigh could be a big problem, at least if I see it inching up I can stop it before it gets worse-but of course, I hope not to see that ever happen again in my life.

RALY, thanks for checking in! What are your plans for your b.day on Tuesday??????????

LINMAE, sounds like you too have been busy, and appreciate you taking the time to check in. WOW, 4lbs is awesome, congrats, I think you did the best from the whole board! I am so with you on drinking water at room temp., I only drink cold water at a restaurant, never at home-there's something about drinking it from the bottle too, don't know what it is, but seems I can down it easier. Some days I have no trouble drinking lots of water, and others, just a sip wants to make me gag. I rarely drink tea, (just too lazy to make it), and I gave up soda, Crystal Light and any other beverage I haven't mentioned over a year ago-so basically, water is it for me. How did you do at the Casino???

BEE, 3lbs is great, seems you are so back on track, esp after overcoming that little sugar craving you had. Keep focused and keep up the great work!!!

FLY, ugh, yes, 40 is just 25 days away-it feels weird, I use to be the "baby" from all my friends, they are all older than I am, and in the last year, I feel older than so many others I've met. But at least I'm still younger than my older friends I guess! LOL! Good luck with your EOM goal-little goals are so much better than looking at the big picture.

QUILTER, glad we got in a mini chat this morning. I'm thrilled for you AND Paul with the walks-it helps you not only physically, but marriage wise too-you can get in some great talks and quality time! Like I said, freeze that fruit while it's in season!!!!

Gotta go, time to jump in the shower before the day is gone. Please remember, tomorrow is a new week and a new board begins.

Have a great Sunday!

BOB is not too happy after reading what the THREE SISTERS had to say in their journal. I've never been an avid reader of their journals, but seems to me that some people (whether they are participating members, or just someone dropping by) have really GOT SOME BALLS to say these things to any of them! In my own opinion, I think that we should be looking for a new home, because it sounds like we could be without a board in a heart beat!....

I had no idea that they let things like this bother them this much.
I myself am TOTALLY GRATEFUL for what they have given us to use! I just wonder who these CLINE people are? Anyone know?????

Good Afternoon-

Haven't posted in a few days...flaking out. In honor of Deb I had a garage sale myself. Yesterday was great, we sold about $400, today a measily $23. Didn't rent any movies....had no desire to see Hannibal, you're brave...looked too scary!!!

OK--the first thing we do is take out a hit on these Cline people--opps been watching too many Soprano's reruns! But I do think we need to get Suzanne and Jennifer on THIS board so they will see what real support is! And yes--we might have to think about moving elsewhere if our "saints" get fed up and pull the plug.

OK--I had football fun yesterday! War Eagle! BOB--was the evening to your liking? I suspect it was.

Auburn goes to LSU next weekend, so some if us faithful will be pitted against each other. Star--are you out there lurking?

I've been napping big time today--my favorite Sunday activity. Have a meeting tonight--right at supper time. I will eat a little something before I go then have a yougurt or something when I get back.

Hope everyone is having a good day! Tomorrow is a brand new day!

Evening All:wave:

Had a nice day out with my honey buns, nothing exciting, just lunch and Carbolite, a quick walk through part of Sawgrass Mills Mall and a quick romp through Walmart-leisure day.

Tried a new fruit today-a dinosaur plum-very juicy and really good!

I got an e-mail back from Suzanne-they've really had a tough time with the site-they shell out $$$ from their own pockets to keep it going, not to mention their "free time." Let's not even mention these people who are so nasty to send e-mails like Jennifer got, she says that's just one of many. She told me that they are going to move the entire site to a new server that will save them $400 a month and we won't lose any of our important boards. BUT she did say that the site will do down for probably 3 days, but will post an announcement letting everyone know when this will take place-she did not give me any dates. It's important that if you are NOT on my mailing list that you either e-mail me with it, or post your BIO on the BIO BOARD to keep updated If you didn't receive an e-mail from me this weekend, you aren't on my mailing list. G-d forbid something should ever happen to the site, I at least have all your e-mail addresses to let you know what we'd do-if not, it's up to you to have mine:) BUT, from what Suzanne says, she doesn't plan on closing this board down at all-it's really one of the few things that keeps her going. Again, it would be nice to let her know just how much we appreciate the hard work and the money they spend of their own to keep this board going!!!!

NANCE, what did you do, sell the kids? That's great money-what the heck did you find to sell? I'm sure you'll put the $$ to good use!

ROSALIE, did you find the site for the journals??

BEE, did you get in your walk?

FILLISE, I'm sure many would love to tell the Clines what they think of them-what nerve! Trust me, Suzanne reads this board from time-to-time and realizes what a great bunch we are-she's told me so in the past:)

BOB, nothing new down here-rain, rain, rain! Glad to hear you're loving the quiche recipe-remember, it freezes really well. Hey, I'm sure Sarasota is breathing a sigh of relief from you giving the hummus a break!!! LOL!!!

Okay gals, gotta run, see you sometime tomorrow morning!!! Please remember, tomorrow is MOTIVATIONAL MONDAY so if you have any words of wisdom, please try to post them tomorrow!

Toodles

Hi ladies. I've been in Ben's room fumigating! Seriously a mess that was. I discovered his floor and vanquished the killer dust bunnies! It does feel good getting a good cleaning done. Next is the garage. Gotta do some clothes changing since the season change is upon us.

Anyone gonna check out Band of Brothers? I thought it would be good. Guys in uniform, bring them on!

Quilter-Walking in the park with the one you love. You should throw us over for that every day. Just check in every now & then. Are the leaves turning there yet?

Bob-What did the person say to the three sisters? Too bad there are ugly people everywhere. I guess we were bound to get some on this site too. Hows the wonder dog doing?

Deb-forgot to tell you that I really loved the information you so faithfully typed in on sugar. Muchos gratias! I copied it to check back on later.

Nance-tortured by football. I say fight back. When the kids are elsewhere do a little tease in front of the set and see what effect that has. Either that or join him. I think he's worth it.

Well, ladies. Gotta go.

p.s. Peter was complaining about his weight this p.m. Without thinking I blurted out "maybe you should try my plan". He asked how expensive it was. Sounds like some gears are moving up there. No commitment yet but I would like him to meet his goal of losing some belly. He also said I don't know about giving up sugar. I'm embarrassed to say he wasn't much of a sweet addict until he met me.

Thanks Bee for that journal link.

I cried when I read that ugly post. How can someone say something when I think this site has saved my sanity and possibly "ultimately" my life. I'm sure when the sting has subsided we will realize what a very unhappy person that was who so cowardly lashed out at a group of wonderful people and say a prayer for her. I have to say right now I don't feel like it.

I'm going to go and share my thoughts.

Night all. 'fly

Hi All - Back from the Casino - Don't ask. I had a great day - but, a terrible time on the machines. Couldn't get one good run. The only good thing is that I didn't cheat and eat anything I shouldn't have. Actually was too busy to eat :)

So, it sounds like everyone was busy this weekend. Hope everyone had the beautiful weather we had here. It was and is hot.... Sunny all day. Suppose to last a couple more days then rain.

Back to work tomorrow and the grind of paperwork, bookkeeping and State Auditors. Oh well, someone's got to do it.

I was really pleased with my weight loss this week. Hopefully it will continue. I know the water or amount of it, is making a difference. That and the exercise.....

Well, gotta cut this short. Tired after my long day of spending money....:D Linda

HELLO!!!! for those of you who care i am still here alive and lurking (less this week than others but trying to keep up!)
This last week had been sooooo busy i have been straight out! Very stressful too. My daughter started Kindergarten and is having seperation issues! (she went thurs. and fri!) Tonight she was already crying about going tomorrow and leaving me. SHe was crying on the playground Fri. when i tryed to leave! wish me luck tomorrow!!!! The older two are doing well no crying there just alot of trucking around for soccer and so on. This Sat. was our first games. I ran with the little 4 and 5 yr olds! Never coached before but no one cryed so i consider it a job well done! I really think it will be fun. Then Sat. Night was our re scheduled Backstreet Boy concert! woooooo hoooooo it was good. We got into Boston about 4 hrs before the concert and walked to Quincy Market ate and then waited for the show. Needless to say its been a longgggggg week end. (a bday party today too!)
At one point this week i was down in the 137.9 area on the scale!!! i doubt that i am that now but i will shoot for Wends. Now that my daughter is in school i will have some alone time! This Ebay thing is keeping me busy too. I don't know how much money i am making but i get to go shopping and thats fun too!

Deb-glad the TOM came to bad you will have it on your bday next time. the big 4-0??????? hmmmm you don't look it! We went to the flea market today it was sooooo hot out everyone left early. I love to go there and get books! my hubby goes to pick the trash-SO embarsing!!!

Melf-Happy Bbay-belated sorry!!!!!!! hope it was fun. Keep working toward your goal you'll make it!

Bee- you sound sooooo motivated keep it up!
LinMae-woooo hooo on the 4 lbs

Quilter-awsome walking! sounds like fun. Its actually fun trying to stay on program with hubby! Today we had salad for lunch that we both made!! It makes it alot eaiser when we have the same goal!!!

Rosalie-thanks for the reply! You sound like you had fun this week end. The kids play outside. My daughter loved it she was sooooo cute! She asked "when do we go back?" Funny to see such little ones running around. Most of them have older siblings so they are really pretty good!!! My brother just moved to my town last year and his two kids play two so we have games from 8 a.m to 12;00 -4 kids at an hour a wack!!! i think i will be sick of soccer!!!!

gotta go to bed  to everyone else!!!!!!!! keep up the great posts they are motivating me alot!!!!!!!

Bee - Thanks for the link. I found both the journals.

I don't know how anyone can be so mean and spiteful. If they don't like the site why don't they just stay away.

Marie.
