Yes, it definitely works. The only problem is that it becomes complicated when you combine foods since certain combinations tend to lower the GI. THe GL-diet is the latest version of the GI diet. It basically uses the GI, but says that the amount you eat will also affect your body. For example, watermelon has a high GI, but if you eat small amounts you will be ok.

I am currently combining a lowish GL diet with calorie counting. It works for me.

The GI diet is about getting cutting back on "bad" carbs.
This website gives good info: www.glycemicindex.com
A high GI food raises your blood sugar very quickly, which in turn causes an insulin surge. Excess blood sugar ends up being stored as FAT.
Foods that have a low GI don't raise your blood sugar so fast, keep you fuller longer, and generally tend to be healthy, whole foods.
If you eat veggies, whole grains, lean meats, fruits, and some dairy (and eat as clean as possible) you are basically eating a low GI diet.

Sugarbusters is based on the GI, is easy to follow and works very well. I am diabetic and can get pretty tight control when I am following Sugarbusters carefully.
