LA Weight Loss - Take Off - Cleanse

View Full Version : Take Off - Cleanse

Hi Everyone!!

My name is Juliann. I'm new to this site as of yesterday. I joined LAWL on 7/7/06. I did the initial "cleanse" and now I've been told I need to do a "cleanse" every 2 weeks. An extra $25 per bottle of juice....ouch! According to them this is optional. What do you guys think? Is a bi-monthly cleanse necessary to weight loss? Has anyone done a cleanse using an alternate to the LA TakeOff Juice?

07-24-2006, 10:59 AM
hi, welcome. congrats on your loss so far. I did takeoff (TO) in the beginning and didnt do it again for like 1 1/2 months or even more. Its not necessary, they are just basically trying to get sales. If you do have lots of cravings then the juice will help with that. Many people use canteloupe, oranges and some other juices instead of LAWL TO juice

with canteloupe its 1/2 a on the 1st day and 1/2 on the 2nd day.
with oranges its 4 oranges on the 1st, 1 every 3-4 hours and same on the 2nd day.

there is also the hollywood diet drink that you can find at like CVS, its about $16 a bottle and i think some gals on here use a krudson juice, they will help you out with that 1 because i'm not sure what it is and have never used it.

Goodluck and hope to see you on here more often, you will find lots of great support.

I don't think TO every 2 weeks is a good idea--just my opinion. I think it's beneficial when you first start the plan to kick start the body, then again later if you fall off plan for a while and can't get rid of the carb cravings.

07-24-2006, 11:54 AM
I wouldn't do take off every 2 wks.. i don't think the results would be there everytime. just my .02.

I will tel you that Knudsen Morning blen juice is just as good as their 25.00 juice... don't waste your money on it. Knudsen is like 3-5.00 for 32 oz and works just as well for me!

have a great day... good luck

07-24-2006, 03:06 PM
Thanks for the advise!!
I was down another 2 pounds at weigh in today and I'm just starting week no. 3. I feel like I'm on I'm not going to worry about doing a "cleanse" for awhile. I'll look into the Knudsens juice. $25 is ridiculous for a bottle of LA's juice!!

When you use Knudson for TO do you dilute it like you do the LAWL TO juice? Just wondering...

07-24-2006, 04:07 PM
I usually do 4oz of juice and 2 oz water and then my last glass of juice i just use whats left in the bottle and dilute it with the amount of water i think is needed.

07-24-2006, 04:25 PM
Good Question!!
I might buy one of the overly expensive bottles of LA TO juice to check and compare labels. If it's similar enough in content, I'll dilute as per LA.
Has anyone tried this??

The LAWL juice is a little higher in calories than Knudsens. I usually use 6 oz of Knudsens with 2 oz of water to keep the calories the same. The only 2 things that stand out to me in difference is 1- LAWL juice has a little more fiber, and 2- The LAWL juice has banana puree, and Knudsens does not.

Thanks Katie!

It looks like you are doing great on LAWL. How long have you been on the program? (

Thanks Juliann! I have been on LAWL for 11 months. I can certainly say that this has been a life changing experience for me. Welcome to 3FC, by the way.

07-24-2006, 10:31 PM
Welcome Julian - I have used the Knudsen's juice and it worked fine for me. Not sure if it was Britt or Cassi who had the recipe, but I believe it was 25 oz of the Knudsen juice, add 7 oz of water and 4 or 5 tsps of Fiber Sure (powdered fiber mix that really has no taste, but adds 5 grams of fiber per teaspoon). I did the TO again after being on the program for about 3 weeks. I did it in an attempt to curb my carb helped when I did the 2 day TO, but after that, I really just go back to craving my carbs! And don't expect much of a weight loss from it the second time around. I think I was down about 3/10th of a pound; honestly it wasn't worth giving up my fruit and starches.
The first time I did TO was the first two days I was on the LAWL program and it was called TO Express. You got unlimited proteins and veggies along with your TO juice. When you do it after you've been on the program, your proteins are limited to 6 oz for the entire day and you get a couple veggies, 2 LA Lites and your juice. I thought it was unlimited proteins and veggies everytime you did TO, but it's not.
Good luck and enjoy the program. I'm starting my 5th week and this truly is becoming a (good) habit!

07-25-2006, 08:50 AM
Hi Joni,
I did the TO "Express" the first 2 days of the program too.....but the TO Juice was included. Hmmmm.....just one of those hidden costs. I'll try the Knudsens, when I'm ready to cleanse/fast... But I think I should wait until I'm at a stale mate...I've been consistantly losing. This morning on my home scale it was down another pound!! Hooray!! I'm glad you mentioned the added fiber, I was wondering about that?!

I know this is kinda gross.....but it helps me keep it all into perspective. Each pound of fat lost is four sticks of butter! So far I'm down approximately 10 pounds, which doesn't seem much yet, but that's 40 sticks of butter! (

Hi all,
I know someone said a while back that the LA juice has fibre, and that makes sense to me too. But I double checked that when I was at the centre and there is no fibre in the juice! Maybe the kind they sell here in Canada is different... anyway, I would check that fact.

I've been doing TO with Knudsen's juice, but I can't find the morning blend, so I use one called Mega green, which has the same calorie content plus some greens in it. The LA juice is 100cal for 1/2 cup and you drink that 4 times each day. Knudsen's is 130cal for 1 cup so I usually have 4 cups per day for a total of 520cal instead of 400cal with the LA juice. I have had good success doing it that way, but I suppose I could water it down a but, or at least make sure that I get just 400cal of juice per day.

07-25-2006, 05:28 PM
Hi Julie Moon,
Do you do TO every 2 weeks? One of the counselors at the center suggested that I should. How long have you been on LAWL?? (
Baby Steps….. (

07-25-2006, 06:08 PM
Julian - I say just do the TO when you are stalled, having cravings, or just want to get yourself back on program after an off period. The counselor may be looking for the commission she'll make by selling you lots of TO drink. I have to say, though, that I like the TO drink better than the Knudsens...but I don't think I like it enough to pay the price difference.
I went to my COD today and the little tiny bit I lost doing TO last week is back...I wasn't 100% POP all weekend (maybe 95%), but I certainly did not deserve to gain anything....I don't care what the frickin scale said anyway. I feel good; I know I'm doing good and eating well and that's what matters the most. I'm going to go make a voodoo doll that looks like a scale and stick pins in it....that will make me feel even better.

Hello all! THis is the first time I've posted. You all are a God-send!! This is week 9 for me and I finally reached the 20 lb mark! I started out losing 3.3 lbs a week and hit a plateau around 185-186. The counselors were treating me like I was doing something wrong, but I've been strict about staying on plan. It just made me mad that they were acting as if they had never seen anyone stop losing when they were staying on plan. Not real impressed with LA Weight loss as a business, but the diet seems good. Even though I had lost 1.8 since I weighed in last Wednesday, she tried to talk me into buying the $25 TO juice. I refuse, that's ridiculous. So I'm glad to see from you all that there are alternatives. She also pointed out that I was going to run out of bars in about 12 weeks ( ihave 29 weightloss weeks to go) Also glad to see i don't have to do the bars (even though I like them)--the COD didn't tell me that. Also glad there are alternatives to the bars. Thanks soooo much for the info. I was going crazy--my COD is really pushing products on me. I have a daughter leaving for college in 3 weeks so I don't have money to throw at LAWL--after I have already dropped $1100 there. Just have to be strong!! Hard for a people pleaser like me :o)

Yea!!! :carrot: 20 lbs down and 49 to go!!!

08-01-2006, 10:36 AM
Hi Martha!

Congratulations on the 20 pounds!!

It looks like we are close to the same weight and goal. My COD is really pushy too! I wonder if they are on commission to sell that stuff!! I get mixed signals from different "counselors" week I had 2 Lean Cuisine meals for lunch two days in a row....and got a lecture for it!!

I had a great counselor to begin with....but she went back to grad school this week!! I bought enough bars to get me thru X-mas....goal date is Jan. 24th. They said there is often a "sale" around X-mas on lites.

I bought the Knudsens Morning Blend Juice, I thought I would try to do a Take Off at the end of my 4th week. I'm curious to see what happens.

Keep up the good work!! (

I know that they do work on commission. However its annoying to dread going to weigh knowing that you are going to get a big sales pitch. Some of the counselors are fine, but some of them act like you are not going to lose weight if you don't buy their products!:(

Let me know how the Knudsen's works. I fear it will create quite the scandal when I start substituting other products for theirs!! I already raised a "stink" when I emailed the corporate office on their website. All I wanted was a scientific explanation of the diet. Well of course that never happened. I got called into the manager of the CODs office. She was very nice, but never answered my question. I asked her how many calories my plan was. She had to call corporate to ask. Then they had to get back to her. I saw that she left a "sticky" note in my chart which the counselors never shared with me. I can read upside down :p and saw I was on 1400-1600 calories. What's the big deal??:?:

What a bunch of jerks. Do you have any other LAWL centers in Birmingham? I would switch. Someone else, I think it was Lea Ann, asked her center to put a note in her file to stop trying to sell her stuff. Maybe you could try that. I have not bought one thing except my plan from them. You really don't need all of that extra stuff.

08-01-2006, 08:37 PM
Oddly enough, we only have 2 in Birmingham that I know of. The other one would be way out of the way. Just gotta hang tough...

08-02-2006, 01:04 PM
Welcome ladies-
Sorry that you guys have pushy centers. They are not all that way. My center is super and they just tell me what the specials are that week and on we go with the session. I would just flat out tell them that you can't afford it right now and would you please note on the top of my file in big red letters to not push anymore product on me.

08-02-2006, 01:12 PM
When I sub. products, on most occasions I just write in what LAWL sells. When I do TO, I do it with fruit instead of the juice. They have never said anything bad about that. If I do a slimfast, I write slimdown. If I have a 100 calorie packet of doritos, I write bag of LA cheese curls. How the heck are they going to know? For all they know, you could have bought some off of ebay or have a friend at a different center that gave you some. Just saves some explaining.

Also on the stall, when I hit 20 lbs. gone, I stalled for 3 weeks. I never heard one bad word about it. Everybody was super supportive about me breaking the stall. You WILL stall at some point. It is probably your body adjusting to the new weight or if you have been at that weight for a while in the past, your body remembers those things. Just stick with the eating program and don't let them bother you about it. Remember, you paid them to support you in your journey. You can also point out to them that on the first page of the diary on line 8, it does say- Be honest. You are not going to be criticized or judged on the foods you eat.

08-02-2006, 07:49 PM
Deb, Funny that you say that because today I had a Slimfast for lunch and wrote in my diary Slimdown. The counselor I had today is great. In fact she told me early on not to buy food scales at LA because they were too expensive, but to go to Walmart. She won my heart then and there. But I don't get her very often. There are only certain ones that are pushy and I had a run of them while I was in my plateau. I think I may be back losing--I was down today 2 lbs from a week ago.:carrot:

08-08-2006, 10:06 AM
Good Morning!!
I did TO on Sunday and Monday for the first time. After a little splurge on Saturday to PF Changs (Chinese Restaurant) I'm down 2 more pounds, but I've been going steadily down anyway. I don't know if it helped anymore than usual.

I used the Knudsen juice and added water just like with the LATO juice, taste almost exactly the same.

I was HUNGRY durning TO, it wasn't easy.....but I also kept exercising.
I've been riding my bike to Weigh In 2x a week - 8 miles round trip! (

Where did you get your Knudson's juice and did you tell your COD that you were using it? I'm just curious. I'm in my 3rd week and haven't been asked to buy the TO juice yet, but I know that it is coming soon. I didn't care for the taste/smell of the TO juice during the first two days and I've already decided that I'm not going to buy their juice again. I have funny taste buds I guess. I've also had a hard time using the powder lites. I can do a few of the bars without too much problem, but not the powder ones.

I'm very close to your current weight loss and goals. I'm currently 177 and want to get to 135 or 140. I'm not sure if 135 is reasonable or if I would be able to maintain there. I got down to 125 about 8 years ago on WW, but it was too low for me. My target date is January 8th.

08-09-2006, 10:13 AM
Hi Patty!

I bought the Knudsen's Morning Blend Juice at Whole Foods, it was around $3.50 - compared to the LA's TO juice @ $25!! It tastes about the same.
I didn't tell them I did the Knudsen's - I see a different counselor almost every time I'm there so I didn't even bring up the subject. :D If they ask, I'll say a friend gave me a couple of bottles that she didn't use...

I haven't tried the powder lites, just the bars. Try the nuking the choc. crunch lt's kinda like a warm brownie....only not so pretty.

I like the program so far.....14 pounds in a little over 4 weeks! My goal date is Jan 24th, I'm excited to be close to goal before I turn 41 on Dec. 26th!

I'm not sure about 135 either....I'm an easy size 10 at 140, a whole lot better than my starting to get lose 16's!!

Good Luck!!
WE can do it!!

08-09-2006, 11:37 AM
--- I just finished TO with their juice and it had fiber in it -- I forget how much, (threw bottle out at work) -- but it did have it

08-09-2006, 11:48 AM

I think I'm just going to not do the TO, officially, but do the Knudson juice on my own. Have you been amazed at how easy this has been. I have had only one craving since I started 3 weeks ago and that was for pretzels - yes, I did give in, but only for a few. I can't believe I'm eating so well and drinking more water than I ever have. I am doing the bars, but not the powder lites. I told my COD that I would only do one bar a day and they were okay with that. I just works out best for me. I'll try your microwave suggestion. I just got a box of peanut butter but haven't tried it yet. I tend to crave dry peanut butter sandwiches when I'm eating light/healthy.

We'll have to keep up with each other's progress this fall and celebrate this January!!! I'm determined to do this right.

08-09-2006, 02:44 PM
Hi Patty!

I'm looking forward to our big CELEBRATION in January!! I am so gung-ho - something finally clicked!!

I just got back from riding my bike to the's 8 miles round trip with some really good hills. The counselors are all amazed that I do it at least 2 times a week.

I got measured today for the first time since I joined.
3 inches off bust, 3 inches off waist, 3 inches off hips and 1/2 off thighs - Nine and 1/2 inches!! Woo Hoo!!

Let's keep up with each others progress! Just curious....where do you live? I'm in Rochester Michigan (a suburb north of Detroit.)

08-09-2006, 03:34 PM

I'm also amazed you ride your bike so far. I have been walking - I have a 30 minute route that I do pretty consistently. If I try to make it any longer, I'll not do it. I teach school and we're starting in about a week, so 30 min. is about all I can get.

I live in a town in central Texas - San Angelo. It's hot and dry here.

08-09-2006, 08:41 PM
Patty--I graduated from ASU back in 91!!! We LOVE San Angelo!

08-10-2006, 12:23 AM
Lea Ann,

We moved here in '92 and we do like it. We both went to Texas Tech. I noticed you're in the Panhandle. Anywhere near Lubbock? Have you been back here lately? They've added quite a bit of things to ASU. It's a nice school.

08-10-2006, 09:03 AM
We lived in Big Lake from 92-95 then moved to Arizona for 10 years then moved to Canyon a year ago. Does Mejor que Nada still have the best fajitas? We LOVE China Garden, too. We still get some alumni stuff--we laughed because I babysat for the LeGrands (semi-new faciltiy on campus) all through college and made better $$ than all my friends with "real" jobs--lol. They were always HUGE contributors to the school (wife #1 at the time!) We haven't been back in about 4-5 years but really want to soon now that we are back in the state. My 9 yr old already says she's going to Tech--she could certainly make worse choices--haha. Have a great day.

08-10-2006, 09:54 PM
Hi Lea Ann,

We actually don't ever go to Mejor - my fav is Franco's. I probably won't be able to go there anytime soon. Did you ever go there when you were here? We do like China Garden. What part of Arizona did you live in. We traveled to Flagstaff a few years ago and I thought it was really nice. I loved the drive down to Sadona (?sp).

How long have you been doing LAWL? I'm starting week 4. I've lost 11 pounds, but only 1 pound last week - a little disappointing.

I noticed you started inservice. What do you do? I teach at that school that is next to ASU. Do you remember it? We don't begin inservice until next Tuesday and school on the 23rd. That's really late for us but I've enjoyed the extra time.

08-11-2006, 09:59 AM
Hi Patty,
I am bound and determined to get this off!! January! January! January!
Keep up the 30 minute walks - that's great!! It takes me about 30 minutes each way on my ride to the COD....with traffic lights, but it goes really quickly.

11 pounds in 4 weeks is amazing! That's 44 sticks of butter! Don't be disappointed.

We'll I'm off....biking to my WI, then to work. I own a Paint it Yourself Pottery Studio and a clay studio (with pottery wheels etc...)

Have a GREAT day!!

08-11-2006, 12:37 PM

I'm at the beginning of my 3rd week and am starting a TO today. Weight loss has been slow for me so maybe it's what I need. I don't think I'll be doing it every 14 days as my COD suggests. They got me with the Fast Forward special for 6 bottles so I have it here to use. I guess I'll just use it when I'm stuck...If that isn't every day. I've been sticking to the program but the weight is trying hard not to leave.:( I'm hanging in there though. Just reading your posts and looking at your tickers, I know LAWL can work.

Wishing you all a great day!

Hello Ladies,

Can anyone refresh my memory on how to do the TO with cantaloupe or oranges. I think I've seen it posted somewhere, but I'm not sure. I'm retaining water. I can feel it in my hands and my eyes are puffy. I was thinking t he TO might help.

Welcome Pfleur. Looks like we started around the same time.

08-17-2006, 10:16 AM
with canteloupe its 1/2 a on the 1st day and 1/2 on the 2nd day.
with oranges its 4 oranges on the 1st, 1 every 3-4 hours and same on the 2nd day.

Here You go!

08-17-2006, 10:32 PM
I also read here somewhere that Walmart has a juice called 48 hour juice that looks and tastes similar to the TO juice. It is a LOT cheaper!

08-17-2006, 11:43 PM
I buy the Hollywood 48 hour diet juice in place of the LA Take Off juice. The price is around $15.00 at Walmart. It sure beats paying the $29.00 that LAWL wants, plus it tastes pretty good too.

08-18-2006, 10:14 AM
~~ The Hollywood diet juice says not to eat food with it; I got concerned because I didnt know if it was higher in potassium or other vitams that might not be good to mix with food (protein) or veggies. I stick with the Kruds. juice and add a tsp of fiber to it so I get the 5grams of fiber.

08-18-2006, 10:42 AM
The Hollywood Diet Juice says that because that is how your suppose to use it for their 10 lbs off in 2 days. But when I use it with the Take Off program I follow the LAWL guidelines (6 oz protein per day, 2 cups raw or 1 cup cooked veggies per day, 64 ozs. water and the 2 bars). I compared the 2 labels and the only difference with the Hollywood Diet is that it contains 3g less Carbohydrates and 10mg less of Sodium. It works for me, I lost 7 lbs one time that I was on it. I am currently on my 2nd day of it again and have already lost 3 lbs. I keep the weight off too, it seems this is the only way I can get my last 18 lbs off is by doing it this way.

08-18-2006, 11:06 PM
I need some info about doing TO. I did it intially when I joined LAWL. But, I need to do it again. I have been on a 3 1/2 week road trip and need to get back on track before I go back to my COD on Monday. I bought the Knudsens juice today. But what else do you eat for the 2 days. By the way, I am on the purple plan w/o the lite bars.

I did the take off and only lost .4 oz but it was TOM so that may have had something to do with it. ( I hope)

JSMS135 - Have you tried the hot lemon water for the swelling? It will work. a cup of hot water and 2 TBSP of lemon juice. you can do up to 2 C a day. I'm going to do this at the end of my TOM.

I looked for the Kudsens Morning blend at Publix and found it in the small bottle not the large one it was in the organic food section. Does it come in the big bottle?

The Knudsen juice does come in a larger bottle (32 oz). I'm in Georgia and it's hard to find, but I did find it a a Good Nutrition store.

I did the knudsen's this last TO, didn't like the taste, but got the same results. I do TO every 2 weeks and on the weeks that I do TO I lose about a pound more than the weeks I do not...
