Okay, everyone, as is the tradition, I start a new thread when I personally start a new challenge.

Below is a short explanation of how this challenge works so all you newcomers can take a look and decide if you're game or not! I hope you are! Hop aboard and enjoy the ride. We've got a great bunch of supportive people, so I hope you'll give us a try. A lot of people try for a while and then disappear.. I hope some of you will keep trying. There is NO shame in starting over. Remember, it's not over till you give up. And our motto around here is:

NEVER GIVE UP!!...Just start OVER!!


It works like this: you decide you'll do something for 21 days straight, every single day, so keep it doable. Then you count through 21.....and if you flub it, you MUST go back to zero and start over again. Everyone will be on different days. You can start anytime. At the beginning of the challenge you declare what level it is -- Level 1, 2, or 3. Level 1 means you feel it's a relatively easy challenge for you and means you only give yourself ONE pause day (see explanation of pause days below). Level 2 would give you two pause days and so on...
And taking NO pause days is what I'm going to call "aceing a challenge," as in "I'm aiming on aceing this one!" Yowzah!! :cb:

With a pause day you pause in your counting and continue the next day with the number you left off with. Pause days are NOT substitutes for days, i.e. Day 12 -- Day 13 -- Pause Day -- Day 14..... I suggest taking a pause day late in the game (better to go back to Day 1 early on) if you need a break or screw up when you're well into the challenge, meaning, when you're on Day 15 or something like that.

In any case, the trick is to keep going. The momentum builds and it's great incentive to stick to your guns, cause if you don't.........back to START you go. :( And the really great thing about this challenge is that you are forming new habits that will wipe out the old! AND, you get to do it with a great bunch of really supportive people to whom you are accountable! :grouphug:


In the interest of maintaining structure, a sense of solidarity and facilitating support I ask anyone who wishes to join this thread to please strive to follow the following guidelines while participating in this challenge and in posting.

1. Although this is a fabulous support group, the focus is to be on your CHALLENGE/S and/or other people's challenge/s AND weight loss, whether your challenge is about it or not. Please keep the challenge a priority, although we welcome chattiness! :lol: This means tell us what day you're on when you post and it's a good idea to make regular mention of just what your challenge is. This an action-based thread. Our members are ON a challenge, RESTARTING a challenge, or just in between and looking to start up again REAL SOON. ;) We also welcome posts from admirers, encouragers, and old friends!

2. Please refrain from posting food logs or recipes, except where you are really looking for help and advice on your eating. If journaling is your challenge, please keep the journaling off the thread and in a notebook or blog and just tell us if you've done what you set out to do. We have ALL types of dieters here, low-carb, high-carb, low-fat, high-fat, vegetarians, meat-lovers...please use simple mentions if you have something you want to share and then links and/or private messages to do so.

3. Please do NOT go into glowing accounts of any slipups, food indulgences or binges, what we here call "food porn." Simple mentions are fine, but use of smilies :censored: :tape: etc. as substitutes where possible is encouraged.

4. Please keep this a nonsecular thread. Of course, passing references to your beliefs, a bit of introduction about your beliefs, brief faith-related words of encouragement are fine. :angel:

5. Please show support, support, support! This is key. :grouphug: You can waffle on about yourself but please, at least occasionally,come up and look around at others and what they are doing and MENTION it with words of encouragement and/or praise or sympathy. We understand "busy," poor computer connections, and bouts of self-pity and life problems where the focus turns to "me" and dealing with those problems, but these should be temporary, not a habit! ('cept in the computer case.)

In conclusion, let me say, the above are just that, GUIDELINES. Please realize that these guidelines have been added in an attempt to keep this a supportive and beneficial thread, at the LEAST, to those who need it MOST, those for whom weight loss is the hardest and, more often than not, the most crucial as well as for those who still, perhaps despite great success, know all too well that the road they walk will always be a slippery one. :^:

The guidelines are also meant to cultivate an atmosphere of consideration and concern for ALL, not individually, but AS A GROUP.

Day 3 - It's a bit after 8 p.m. and I have 9pts left! I'm not the least bit hungry. I think it's is because the fiber I have eaten today.

Heh, all. I blew it! Friend came back from the States and it was another long night of talk AND brew....Dang! I was almost there too and kept myself hungry all day long. So, actually, caloriewise it probably wasn't all that bad but I just couldn't call it "clean living," and since I had no more pause days I had to restart. Oh well, nothing really lost except the satisfaction of a notching yet another complete challenge round. Well, I'm back on the wagon from today.

Challenge 1: Crunches -- 10 sets of 20 reps
Challenge 2: Journaling -- all my food and exercise
Challenge 3: Reduced Caffeine --coffee in the morning, then max of 1 mug of tea in afternoon
Challenge 4: CLEAN LIVING!! -- no sugar, no processed food, exercise in some form, minimal alcohol, brown rice and whole grains and fresh vegetables and fruit in abundance

All Level 1s, except for the last one, meaning I am allowing myself only one pause day for the three challenges I have successfully completed in the past.
Wish me luck. Things are sooo incredibly frustrating at work and I am becoming depressed by it all. I need for things to get out of the mud and moving in a positive direction. I was doing that with myself, with eating and exercise but the rest tipped the scales against me and I floundered there for a bit (not helped by the alcohol). Wish me luck, please!

We have had constant rain for three days now. It's not fun. :rain:


mez -- Hi there! Glad to see you're doing so well on your challenge. The fiber in your diet IS crucial. When I eat brown rice and vegetable, the junk doesn't even tempt me. Swear to God! Keep up the good work. I'm rooting for you! :spin:

jolly -- Glad to see you again and glad the computer is back up and running, as are you! Way to go! With riding, I do get out regularly but it is very difficult. I really become in a bad mood and feel very out of sorts when I can't ride, so that helps me get there. Glad you've had some good rides. I certainly hope the best with your dog. Two of my cats are getting very old and problems crop up all the time...a very messy one at present, the details of which I won't go into here. :barf: Good luck!

dj -- Yikes. I know what the heat is like. I don't have air conditioning either as I have to ride in the heat and need to acclimatize to it. Still, often I can't sleep at all because of it. I shower 3-4 times a day in the summer and sweat pours off me constantly. Hang in there! Great going on the challenges. Just one more day, right? You're probably wrapping it up as we speak (as I type). :dancer:

OK I'll play, I am on day 12 of walking at leat 3 miles, ( took 2 pause days in there, have to when I am on call), aND TODAY i WALKED 4 MILES!!! I consider this for me a level 3 cuse I am morbidly obese. hope this is cool?Keep on truckin!!!!

hey, this sounds like fun. i have been fighting my weight since the birth of my 1st child 14 yrs ago. for me, late night eating is my vice. so i am going to challenge myself to go 21 days without. wish me luck! (

I would love to jump in if that is ok. I constantly battle my weight, I was able to get a lot of weight off before I got married (just a little under 2 yrs ago) - than I got preagnet within the first couple of mths of marriage and well I dedicded I could eat anything and everything I wanted and than was put on bed rest for 16 wks - needless to say I put on 80+ pounds - I took 50 off right after my daughter was born - but than I stopped (some post pardum drepession issues) and I gained another 20 pounds - SO I have alot to loose. WE are trying for baby #2 - SO I want to basically focus on being healthier and not doing any crazy diets I'll have to stop when I get preagnet.
My challenge is I want to go 21 days with exerciseing for 30 mins every day (actually exercise - pushing the vacume carring a 23 pound child is not for whimps, but I'm talking walking or exercise tape or something) THis is going to be very very difficult for me - SO I think it will be a level 3 - :) wish me Luck I start tomorrow :)

Hey everyone. :)

I think I'm doing a "max 15 cheddars/day" challenge, and I think I'm completing Day 3. Not really a conscious decision, it sort of happened this way, and I thought I might as well continue.
I had more challenges planned, but those haven't had a good start yet (i.e. had lots of false starts though).

I'm out of work again, which is really frustrating... got a call on Monday afternoon about some work for 3 days this week, but I didn't pick up the message until after working hours, and when I called them up the next day, the opportunity was gone. Very annoyed with self because of that, and with my cell phone... it never rings when I check for messages and/or calls and generally make a big effort not to miss any incoming calls. And the one afternoon when I forget about it...

I did it! I notched a day on all fronts! It was REALLY hard. I dragged myself out and walked in the direction of the gym. I wanted to turn around so many times on the 50-min. walk there and sometimes I even just stopped walking and stood there. It was mostly mental but I am a bit sick as well (couldn't stop sneezing) but I knew it was mostly mental, I am so down about work. Anyhow, I wanted to pig out or drink coffee or eat some sugar, start the challenges tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow and then I just say, no, I can do this and I'm going to start today and I did! I didn't go to the gym but the 2 hours or so walking was good and I did the crunches and didn't eat junk and stuck to my permitted tea. I was stoked! :yes:


Pink -- your quote helped me too. I kept thinking about it, kept just thinking I have to put one foot in front of the next, just keep going, keep going, keep going. Thanks.

Sushi -- Heh, too bad about that call. Just figure it was a bad job. Figure that you were SPARED taking it. Something kept you from getting the call you normally would have. It may have been so! ;)

Yes! Day 21 logging food was good. Done with that one!

Day 5 exercise was also good. 2 pauses left.

New challenge now that I'm back to logging my food regularly.

I'm going to keep my calories under 1800. This is a level 1 for me.

I'm finally getting my calorie intake under control again and normally I keep my calories around the 1600 mark, but since I had a bad month or so, I'm taking it slow. It actually seems to be working with the higher calorie count for some reason. I've lost 2.5 pounds in the last couple of weeks. I actually saw 184.5 this morning, but I refuse to count it until the .5 goes away!

I'm going to try to get a grip on things again...get my equilibrium back...get moving forward again...I do feel sick though so the forward movement may have to be in baby steps. Had a migrane all day today which kept me moody but got all of my challenges done! Had a binge today... but at least this time it was on something some what healthy so I kept my calories low still. Moving in to my new apartment in about 2 weeks and will be able to go to the gym at my school in 4 weeks.... actually looking forward to it! It took me over a year and a half to ultize the membership that comes with all my tuition extras becuase I was way to scared to be the 'fat girl' working out but I went for a good few months last year before I broke my ankle.... then gained backed all the weight I lost. Ready to get going again!

Day 9/21. Still on track, but today is a tough day and I came here to get some pep talk before doing my weights and bike. Eating right but no obvious change on the scale yet--the good news is that it's not going up!

WOW, red--I've felt that way so many times! Especially the part where, even after you get yourself to exercise, you just wanna sit down in the middle of the sidewalk and take a nap or go home. You did GREAT and are an inspiration!

lucy and evie--->WELCOME! I'm trying to exercise 6 days a week too, trying to make it a "First Thing in the Morning Priority"

trob-- Also welcome! You picked another of my challenges, Late night eating. That's gotta be THE toughest for me. It is actually getting easier, but it ain't EASY yet.

Welcome to all the new voices here. Good luck on your journey.

My journey somehow circled back to places I have been before, and thought/hoped/prayed would never visit again. So, it is time to get my head out of my nether regions, pull up my bootstraps (hey, what a gyp - my boots don't have straps :fr:), and get going in the right direction. No excuses, no side trips, no self medicating.

On the plus side, exercise is still going well. I am enjoying running again, and hope to be doing a 5k before fall. I also went to my TOPS meeting tonight, despite knowing I had a gain. I didn't have time to stay for the meeting, but did go and weigh in, face the music for my bad choices, and get some motivation for next week.

My challenges are as follows:

1) No soda

2) Healthy eating - this means basically following my menu, staying under 2000 calories, avoiding fast food, and no chocolate (hereafter known as the unhealthy food called :censored:) accept for a few low cal/low fat forms I allow myself, as I do not "binge" on them.

3) Daily exercise with abs/core done at home.

All start tomorrow, 7/21/06. All are level 3s. I know, most of you have seen these before. One of these times I will get it right.

Just checking in here. Did my 3 miles after I got done giving my riding lesson, I worked all day today so I was already done in, but, now, after getting my walk in, I am revitalized!!!! Yay!!! I just wish I could get my behind out of bed in the morning and walk then... oh well, perhaps, that should be my next challenge!!!!:)

Completing Day 5 on my "max 15 cheddars per day" challenge. I'm proud of myself today... we were going hiking, and I wanted to pack some cheddars to have for a snack later. I put a dozen in a bag, and when I reached into the box for the last three, I noticed that there were maybe 10 cheddars left. I was tempted to grab all of them, but I only took three and saved the rest for tomorrow. Doing good, eh? :lol:

So relieved, too... I got a call about a new 2-3 week temp assignment today, so it's back to work on Monday. Not that I really feel like it, but I'm too broke to even think about not working... The location is great, so the commute will be bearable, and that's a great plus. :)

Had a good day yesterday. I got in a good 50 minutes on my step and wasn't really hungry all day. I actually had to make myself eat a higher calorie dinner than what I had planned just to get above the 1500 calorie mark! Probably because of the heat. It's been running mid to upper 90's for the last 2 weeks. Supposedly it's going to cool down a little by Monday. I sure hope so, I'm ready for a break.

Good job Trob, Sushi, Lucky & Pink! You are all doing so good! :)

Jolly - Keep up that good attitude! You've already come a long ways in your journey and I know you can do this! :yes:

Red - Keep it up girl! You're doing good! :carrot:

CityChick - I know that some days can be so hard, especially when the scale isn't moving, but like you said, it's not going up. Keep up what you're doing and you will see a loss, sometimes it just takes a while. Besides, you're making yourself healthier and that is the most important thing!

I just barely made it with the exercise yesterday. First, my 2 year old woke up from his nap and did not want to go back to sleep. I finally got him to sleep and then had a dvd player problem. I finally got my workout going and 10 minutes later I ended up pulling an ab muscle! Anyways, I got 10 minutes of that workout in, and I did 20 minutes of turbo jam to finish off the 30 minute challenge. Definitely was a challenge yesterday!

Red, Trob & Pink - you are all doing great, keep it up!

ok so I stink - I haven't been able to start my challenge yet - part of it is my own fault- part of its work - I have got called in for horrid shifts the last several days - BY the time I come home at night I barley drag myself in the shower and to bed - on the bright side my podometer says that I've been walking a avg of 12-14 miles per shift so thats something - I have one more yucky shift tomorrow (Sun) so I hope to be off to a good start on monday with my challenge

I'm not sure how many of you use fitday but I came across this link and it is amazing for adding extra foods onto the web version. It lists nutrition info for resturants and brands and as long as you are logged into fitday it records it for you! I know this makes things easier for me so I thought I'd pass it on!!

Even if you don't use fitday it is a great source of facts about lots of different foods!!

Yipppeeee!!! I am on day 16 of this challenge!!! I am already feeling if I don't get my 3 miles in, my day isn't complete!!!! Got my 3 miles done today and yesterday both in less than an hour!! I am really hoofing it now!!! Keep on truckin!!!!!:)

I normally don't drink, but ended up having 2 yesterday! :o Hadn't planned on it so I didn't budget my calories earlier in the day. If only I had stopped at 1, I would have been fine! Oh well, hopefully I can keep it under control for the rest of my challenge.

Good morning all. Taking a little time here to say heh. It's Monday morning and I plan on heading out to the gym in about half an hour. It's raining again but I'm going to brave the inclemency and trudge those 50 mins. there to get in a run and some weight lifting before work. I had planned on going anyhow but was also happy to see that my weight was at a low for this year, actually a tie with the lowest weight I had recorded so far this year, which is 71 kg in February. That's around 157 lbs., still very hefty at my height, or lack thereof, but every little bit counts when you don't have the stature to hide it.

My horoscope on TV has me just before the bottom of the lot. I hate that I actually watch it and, yes, must admit that it affects me. When it says I'm going to have the best luck of all, I feel great, optimistic that it'll be a great day. When it has me at the bottom, I feel apprehensive. However, one bright spot, it said that I would have a big fight with a friend too and I thought, well, seeing as I have no friends at work, it will probably not concern me. ;)

Now, an email just popped in from a friend in Italy, from whom I haven't heard in ages. So, even if I have a lousy day, I will think of that. It was like yesterday. I was feeling so down, thinking of all the shite happening at work, but going out to see my horse I was so happy to see that a little neglected dog always tied on outside with little food, not much shelter, now has a new shade roof built over her. I was so happy. Even later when the owner of the riding club gave a characteristic snide remark, I didn't let it faze me, thinking of little Koro and how she has some protection from the sun now...what with temperatures far over 100 F here soon.

Ah yes, I am babbling...trying to hold on to my little successes, trying not to let life make little of them, trying to oh so stubbornly shout, "I will prevail!" :sunny:


dj -- Thanks for keeping things going here as I have been in a non-posting mood, with the lack of time not helping. You're doing great on your exercise challenge and I'm sure you can handle the rest of the calorie challenge if you keep up the kind of attitude I see in your last post. Looking at what got you into straits and planning how NOT to go there again is the key to success. :bravo: Great stuff.

Pink -- thanks for the link. Although it's mostly irrelevant to me where I live I'm sure it'll be of help to many. You're really doing well with your multiple challenges. Keep it up! :cp:

Evie -- You don't "stink!" You just need to alter your challenge. Your challenge was for exercise and it sounds to me like you're getting a lot. The 21-day challenge is different from most in that it's about habits, not cracking down for a week or so but about doing something in the form of something that will move you to your challenge EVERY day. You are doing just that with all your walking. So stop beating yourself up and start helping yourself recognize that you are already on your way to your goals!

I have to start a new challenge!
It's not so much it was bad food it was to much of it. Yesterday things kind of broke down. I believe it's PMS ... My worst time. Today is weight in day. I'm going to hate to see the damage. Since I'm trying to weight myself every two weeks. Geez is one day of cr*p worth 2 weeks of being healthy!!! Well there is nothing I can do about yesterday just plug away and do what has to be done.

My challenge is the same. Stay in my WW Pts (includes bonus)

Sorry, carla, the avatar stays. The bright one is simply not me. Doing challenges, dealing with life is not easy. Pretending it is by expressing myself otherwise (through the avatar) feels to me like denial and THAT, to me, is utterly depressing. If you will look at it as I do, the gray in the picture is the shite that we deal with in our lives, not only the difficulties inherent in the challenges themselves in a perfect world, but the other curve balls life throws us. If you will notice, the energy of the balloon, the string wiggling, fighting, refusing to give up and sink to the earth, is where you should and I do find my inspiration. The balloon may find the blue skies above the clouds momentarily but I feel better knowing that gray will always be there and I will work with it in order to there you have it. I want no more out of you unless you plan to get your butt back in here and do a challenge! :mad: You wacky woman, you!! :lol3:

It hadn't been pleasant but if I ever get to show and the rain's coming down, I wouldn't want to wimp out. Show/transport fees etc. are sky-high here, as is everything else! :eek: Well, you are looking real good with your challenges. The mind is a strange thing. After reading your last post, Red, I scrolled back to try to figure out what the heck your "baloney flinging" referred to. Realized I had, in fact, referred to "balcony" flinging, chuckled about how funny your typo was... and then realized there was no typo in your post, just me needing new glasses RIGHT NOW. :lol: Then again, it would be a shame to lose these moments of entertainment. One of the true joys of getting older: filling in for what you don't hear or see quite right with vastly more amusing alternatives.

As for the egregious avatar, we need a smiley that blows a raspberry, gives a Bronx cheer, cocks a snook... at recalcitrant pessimists. So there. Day 2 - I weight myself today. down 5.5 lbs. So I'm very happy. I'm going to change my weight in day to tuesdays. Since it will give me an day to workout a weekend. Not that I'm giving myself the ok to do that I just think this will be best. I'm reading the Wendy Plan I maybe tweaking my plan.

Carla - I went to the doc yesterday for a medical for this new contract - hey I am losing my hearing (now tell me something I don't know) however I can still understand what the doc says under his breath about grumpy ol' women without too much trouble and repeat it back verbatim. Rest of me is perfect (perfectly bloody awful)! :rofl:

Red I will be back for another challenge. I just don't know when. It's a challenge just living at the moment. Trying to sort out the house, the cat, the job, the gym etc. etc.
I think I am being sent to Weipa in the next couple of weeks. No point in starting a challenge when one goes to a place that has never heard of haute cuisine or fine wine - just a bunch of miners who burn off calories immediately. Not good for the rest of us.

Morning all. Wednesday morning here. My nose is running and I keep sneezing, eyes itching. The mold that grows in the rainy season is horrid normally but this year it is awful. Nothing has a chance to dry out. Today, though, it looks like sunshine. The heat will soon become unbearable. Still, I suppose it's better than the rot. I am very prone to lung infections and get asthma, so it's not healthy.

I uncovered a bunch of my old food journals from two years ago and it is utterly disheartening to see that my starting point was where I am now. Ok, I could and do try to tell myself that I could be 50 lbs more now and that it's a good thing that I am where I am now, considering that I was 15 lbs heavier not so long ago! Nothing seems to change. I was psyched about getting to where I am now and this morning, by the way, the scale dipped a touch lower, so I am at my lowest recorded weight this year.. 70.8 kgs, around 156 lbs. :encore: I have fairly recent memories of about 68 kgs though and distant ones of 60. The latter don't count, but the 68 ones do. I will be glad to be back there, but even happier when I can hit what I currently consider "virgin ground," around 68 and below! Gotta aim for it! I can do this! ...trying to pump myself up here... :^:


mez -- This is amazing!! 5.5 lbs down?!?! :?: Wow!!! :eek: How did you do it? Congratulations!!! :encore: Good luck on your plan. Never heard of the Wendy Plan. Is this the latest thing in the States?

Shad -- You could always pick a challenge that you could do no matter where you are, like me with my crunches. However, if it's not going to be something that makes you feel good about yourself, progress etc. then yeah, wait till you can do something that will. Hope you can beat the "challenge of living" right now. I think we should all think of the unhealthy things that we could be doing and are NOT, and feel good about that. It helps.

carla -- Hope you get those glasses, but I hear you on the amusing alternatives. Living with another language around me, I hear people saying the most bizarre things in English, because I am used to "stretching" my mind to pick up meaning. I have learned to confirm and reconfirm or go away with some might strange images! :lol: Yes, the rain here has killed quite a few people with landslides, mudslides etc. Usually, this kind of thing doesn't happen until the typhoon season in late August and September. As for the avatar, it's odd, but I never saw it as gray or gloomy. You know what they say about seeing what is reflected from within.... Of course, this could also indicate that my heart is black as night and a little gray looks like sunshine to fact, I think that's more the case. In any case, until I see you in the ring with us fighting I'm not gonna pay you much attention. So, there! :crazy:

Hello all :)

Challenge 1: max 15 cheddars per day -- completing Day 10

Challenge 3: keeping a food log -- completing Day 3

I've been doing quite well the past few days and noticed something awesome regarding the cheddar challenge... at first, whenever I was packing my lunch and snacks for the next day, I made sure to have exactly 15 cheddars. If I'd have two too many, I'd put them back, but if I'd have one too little, I'd take one more out of the box.
Now I just grab some, count them to make sure there are no more than 15, and stick with however many I already have, whether it's 12 or 14. Feels good - it's a new degree of self-control.

That's the Little Penguins, aka Fairy Penguins or Blue Penguins in New Zealand. They're so small - around 30 cm, and so cute! I took the picture myself at Melbourne Zoo not too long ago. :)

Hey all. I know I have been a bad bad poster. I have also been a bad horse mommy. A bad healthy eater. Bad gym goer (though today is the only day I didn't actually work out) BAd everything.

My dog is getting worse. Not eating. Not getting rid of what he eats, if you catch my drift. I had to give him an enema tonight. Getting very crabby - I just had to doctor up my girl dog, as he attacked her for walking by and sniffing him. Nothing positive.

I am eating horribly. I feel yucky, but just can't seem to care. Won't make healthy choices. All i do is stress and eat, feel sick and guilty, and start all over again.

I really am so far off the wagon, I am not sure I can even see it. Sorry to come here and just blather. I hope I can find the strength to make better choices, so I can come back here and get with the program.

I wish you all well, and keep up the great work on your challenges.

On another note, I CAN see the light at the end of the tunnel!!! Day 19 of 3 miles is over and done with!!!! I thought I was not going to be able to meet this challenge after all, it was sooooooo hot today, but, it cooled off enough this evening so I could walk, walk, walk!!!!!! Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Been racking in the days, eating healthier and losin' pounds! But I'm just in an emotional rut lately. I get so tired when I keep hearing about people close to me who constantly get that lucky break or hand up when they don't work half as hard to get anything, while I sit back working my *** off just to get by. Frustrating. I keep telling myself my time will come but lately I've just fallen off. Normally I'd turn to food and laziness so I am making progress. Ah oh well enough venting!

Heh all. Glad to see some action around here. I'm working on Day 9. Got the crunches done early and am moving along on the other challenges. If I can rein myself in tonight at the pub I will still allow it as clean living. Let's hope I don't take it to excess! :yes:

I kind of want to....cough, cough...go to the gym since I plan on having a bit of the brew tonight, run off a couple hundred calories or so, but now I'm sitting here waiting for a delivery man.....another hour. I could still do it...let's see if I'm up to it.... ;) I already rode today so I did get quite a bit of exercise in...but those calories are bothering me tonight. You see, it's great that I'm EVEN thinking of those calories. I can remember shoving food and drink in my mouth as if there were no consequences whatsoever. You know, it's SOOOO easy!!!


Pink -- Good going on your challenges! :cp: You're making changes in your life! :yes: Don't let things get you down, or more importantly, make you turn to food. A little easing off may be in store, such as a nice long soak in the tub or taking in a movie, something just for yourself. I know yesterday I just wasn't feeling too cheery, too much bringing me down concerning work, which affects everything because it's income. So, I did go to the gym, but I didn't go all-out or anything and I didn't run, just did weight training, but fairly lightly, just focusing on things well and going slowly. Then I said, enough, I've done enough and kind of gave myself a little vacation from the self-drill sergeant routine I usually put myself through. Maybe you could use the same. I don't know your situation at work but sometimes you just have to take it and give yourself something just for you. On the other hand, waiting to be recognized never gets you anywhere and you don't know what kind of approaches have been made without your knowing. Sometimes the lucky breaks are anything but. Go and promote yourself, make yourself visible and your desires as well!

lucky -- Excellent work! You've GOT to get this challenge done. Let NOTHING stop you now, luck! :dancer: And don't forget, the idea of a God is not a Christian thing. :lol: Besides, you can call it what you want, even taking your mainstream religions out of the picture. dj -- Good work! :bravo: You are racking up the days! :dizzy: Today was rainless and yesterday too. The rainy season could be over...they have to look at the systems to make it official. Course, that doesn't mean there won't be rain, but we do need some blue skies to dry things out a bit. Humidity was so high though. I was dripping. Horse flies are out in abundance. Last year I was bitten by one, ouch! Wow, I would really love to get to virgin ground. It would really give me the feeling that I'm no longer stuck in the rut of years now! :( Wouldn't it be great to not only fit into those old jeans that haven't fit for years and years, but to wear them out and have to get new ones! :yes:

i didn't have such a great night but i now understand the importance of the pauses. i have not slept in many nights and that is when the munchie monster usually strikes. i have fought him off evey night but last night i just didn't have the strength. after watching the clock for 3hrs i got up and went to the kitchen. i felt SOO guilty but i did it anyway. i had a 90 cal granola bar and some milk, no too bad a choice. so no i still have 13 more days to go. if i fall off the wagon again i am going to make myself start over.
here is another problem that i have that is somewhat related to weight. i am having some female problems and my dr. has given me lots of options from hormones to surgery. right now i am thinking that surgery is my best bet since i will have to have it done eventually anyway BUT i know that lots of women really have trouble keeping the pounds off once they have had a hysterectomy. any thoughts or advice.

Friday morning here. Will be heading to the gym soon. I did not have a single drop of alcohol last night as things didn't pan out and I went home without even getting to the pub. I wasn't irritated at all, just was thinking of the calories I'd saved, rented a video and bought some corn, cooked that up and enjoyed it with the movie. I was going to have a bottle at home but then thought, nah, what for, there are some likely drinking dates coming up so I'll hold off to them. I really like the way I am thinking of calories now and health, not just the socializing. I mean, it's not great socializing and if it were I wouldn't even need to drink. The relaxation to be had from alcohol I am finding in my macrobiotic, near vegan diet, all that brown rice and no sugar, no food additives is really helping.

My weight was up today but I am writing it off to a bit of pms fluid retention and NOT going to let it frazzle me. Things are really bad at work but I am looking at that mess as a godsend, in that I am truly seeing just how rotten some people riding is going well. I feel I have made progress. This is buoying me. I am learning not to fight with my very obstinate mare and being able to work together is a great feeling.

So, challenges stand as below. Today will be Day 9.

Challenge 1: Crunches -- Day 8/1 pause left (Level 1)
Challenge 2: Journaling -- Day 8/1 pause left (Level 1)

trob -- Yes, I certainly don't consider one granola bar with milk the munchies so good for you! It's too bad you're having such a hard time sleeping. Why do you think that is? Are you eating enough? Are your eating or drinking caffeine too close to bedtime or exercising too late in the evening? I know that if I get a workout in too late I can't sleep sometimes. I'm sorry I can't help you with your health problem advice. All I can say is that you'll no doubt have to adjust to whatever changes in your body come along, whether this is caused by age, hysterectomy, other horomonal changes, quitting smoking, whatever, it's just going to call for a hard look that says, well, that's my body and I have to make the changes or deal with the consequences. When I quit smoking I knew I would gain, not because I was eating more but because my body was healthier and I allowed it at first because I saw it for what it was, a healthier me. I know smoking would take off the weight but by sacrificing my health and how moronic is that?! I hope you can get your health back, trob. Good luck to you.

Sushi -- Glad you liked the link. Yoga Journal is an excellent magazine and the link is incredible. All that free information! I used to do heavy weight lifting a la bodybuilding and learned a lot about my body. There is a chest exercise you do by draping yourself across a bench and holding a dumbbell with two hands above your head over your chest, then lowering it in an arc to behind your head, which is, along with your upper back, hanging over the bench toward the floor. As you lower it you lower your hips and raise them as you raise the dumbbell. There are other things to watch out for form but that is about working the chest so I won't bother telling you. In any case, this gives a great stretch not only to your chest muscles, but also your abs. You can do it at home over a chair just holding some weight like a book or plastic bottle. Since your back is supported it's not as difficult as the yoga posture. Anyhow, congrats on your challenges! Cheers!

Hello. It's me again. Forgive me for dropping out for a while. I would like to get going again, but nothing stupid like no beer. I WILL do that eventually, I just know it won't happen with a vacation with my brother coming up.:shrug:
SOOoooo.... I am going to count calories again. Keep it between 1500-1200. With a day to average it out. So say a 1700 cal day would be 0k if the next day was 1200. I'm keeping track today, and if I stick to a salad for dinner I'll be alright. Wish me luck and here's some luck back to you.....:goodluck:

Hey all. Well, I weighed in tonight at my meeting, and stayed the same, so that is something at least. I am really trying to get out of the stress eating.

Unfortunately, the stress continues. My dog is getting worse. Even though my friend says that sometimes they get worse before they get better, he is so uncomfortable that he has attacked my other dog and me. I am taking him in after work tomorrow. Keep us in your thoughts.

Right now, I am just going to try to get through the next few days without going insane. After a few days, I will get together a challenge. Until then, best of luck to all of you on your challenges, and I apologize for the self centered blathering I will be doing.

Yabba dabba dooo!!!!!!! Day 20 is donw and over with and I got my 3 miles in!!!! it was by the hair of my chinny chin chin, though, dark when I finally got in the door... but, man does it EVER FEEL GOOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Best of luck to all the rest of you!! I know i will finish day 21 even if it is in the middle of the night!!! (BTW, I think it is cooler to walk then anyway....LOL)

Wow its only been 24 hours since I checked in last and look at all the action going on here!! Amazing! Thanks for the advice Red I think I will take an easy this coming Saturday, I have been to strung up lately to relax and slow things down. This summer has flown by and as much as I'm looking forward to fall I know my life will be so hetic, slow down today, live for the moment. Just gotta keep tellin myself to breath.

PinkSnowyDays, yes, those are the ones! :) They're called Blue Penguins in New Zealand, and Little Penguins or Fairy Penguins here in Aus. I think the name got changed from Little to Fairy recently after some issues.
Did you go to the Phillip Island penguin parade? I haven't made it there yet, but I did see a parade in New Zealand and I went to see the penguins in St. Kilda in Melbourne. The picture is from the zoo - they were so adorable! :)

Red, help, help, help! :) Any clues for a first-time horse rider? I'm going for a 2 hr ride on Sunday, and I've never done anything like that before... I'm love horses and I'm very comfortable with them, but the only ones I've ever encountered were work horses on farms.

All challenges wrapped up for today, and guess what? I didn't have any cheddars whatsoever! The ones I had yesterday were the last ones in the box, and I haven't been grocery shopping, so it's not a 100% success because it's not like I could have had them and abstained - I just simply couldn't have them. But I'm sure I could have bought them somewhere if I was desperate! :lol:

with only 13 days left, i am going to throw in the towel with my late night snacking. i have not slept well in over a week now which makes the midnight munchie monster much more powerful (try to say that 10 times fast). anyway, until i can get myself sleeping again i am going to start a new challenge or two.

Wow! Been busy here. Nice to see so many posts.

I've managed to catch up on reading all of them but just having a hard time writing! My 2 1/2 year old keeps waking up right after I get home from work in the morning, which is usually my best time to get on here and write. I keep hoping he'll go back to sleeping later, but it hasn't happened yet. So far this morning though, he's being quiet, even though he's awake.

Trob - hope you can get that sleep problem under control soon! That's a tough one.

Sushi - Good job on the cheddars! Way to go! Have a good time on your ride this weekend. I'm jealous! I miss riding so much it drives me crazy. Hopefully someday I'll get back to it.

Indulged in my Diet Coke today... although I must admit I am much much less addicted than I used to be. Ok day over all just went thru the usual motions still stressed beyond all ends. To add to all the things going on with work and school right now it was just dumped on me that my X whom I had broken off the 5 year unheathly relationship with is now seeing someone... while I'm still single. Just when I truely felt over him, it hurts not gonna lie. But tomorrow is a new day and as cheesy as it sounds these challenges really keep me going. I can keep my head up and on the way to my new heathly life. Tomorrow is my much needed relaxation day! Going shopping a bit, visiting friends and taking a bubble bath! I just need to organize and pull myself back together, I'm stronger than this! Alright keep up all the good work ladies, you are soooo inspiring!

It was so hot out today, that I waited til after 10 tonight to try walking, and you know what? There are scary things out on the trail in the dark ( or in my imagination, I am not sure which,) but, it sure made for a VERY fast walk!!!! Apple, trob, jolly, Pink, Sushi, dj, all others! I'll have to try to catch up tomorrow. It's time for bed here and I am beat. Early day tomorrow to get out to ride, so I'll try to make time for here afterward.

Sushi, I don't know what to tell you. I assume you'll be riding the Aussie equivalent of Western. Otherwise I just couldn't see putting a beginner on a horse for 2 hours. I hope that's the case, that you'll have a comfortable stock saddle to ride in. I've never ridden in one myself but they look comfortable....all I can say is it's probably best to wear jeans that won't ride up but are heavy enough to protect your legs from the stirrup leathers. Keep your core muscles taut but relax your butt. Ride as if you were standing almost, so that if the horse was taken out from under you you would land on your feet. Let your legs hang down, don't grip with them. It's mostly in the abs and lower back that you want to maintain your posture. Don't worry about moving with the horse too much. People always move way too much. The horse should do the work, not you. Pushing around won't help. I'm sure you'll have some sort of guidance or the horses will be ones who basically do it on their own. Have fun :sunny: and remember, you'll be very sore afterward, having used muscles you normally probably don't to maintain your balance and posture and from having your legs spread if you're tight, it'll hurt later! :yes:

So far, so good for me on the calories. Staying under 1800 isn't too hard, except on weekends, and the weekend is here. I'm going to try really hard to get through it. Saturday night we almost always BBQ and Sunday morning is the only morning that I cook a hot breakfast. Of course my husband likes all the high fat, high calorie stuff so it's always a challenge to find some middle ground that won't ruin my day. Somehow I will get through this!

Hmmm.....let me see....Friday would have been Day 9. But, I had to restart Journaling from Sunday, today, because I didn't write Friday or Saturday and I only gave myself one pause day. Took a pause on Friday for Clean Living, so today is Day 10. Other challenges moved ahead so Sunday is Day 11 for Caffeine and Crunches, because I did them every day. All very confusing now... :crazy: So......if I get through today and I am planning on it!! I will wrap up the day with...

Yea, I did get the riding in, and it was awesome! :) I really enjoyed it, and so did my boyfriend, which makes me really happy because he felt a bit uneasy with horses before. It was funny at first... neither of us could get the horses to listen to us, and they started grazing instead moving along! :lol: But we got the hang of it with time. :)
We rode for 2 hrs, covered some 15 kms... mostly walk, bits of trot here and there, lovely scenery. It was great. And I'm not sore at all! Steve is though, poor guy! I shared your advice with him, and he found it very helpful. :)

Challenges wrapped up for today.... just typing up my food log. though I need to ask a girl at work whether that tiny piece of naughtines she talked me into having contained any chocolate. If yes, then I had a pause day some time last week.

Monday morning here. I made it through yesterday without a pigout, but only because I went to bed super early, then couldn't sleep from about midnight, but finally did. Sometimes, it's the only way. Sure, I'd probably expend more calories just being up or make much better use of my time, but giving in to a pig-out would be such a downer that I'd rather not. Pms and I'm not going to try to battle it too much. Today will be Day 2, 11 and 12 depending on the challenge.


Sushi -- Glad to hear the riding went well and you weren't sore. I was going to say, if it's mostly walking you'll probably be OK. Did you have stock saddles? Guys or anyone who exercises a lot are usually tighter and guys have higher muscle mass than women anyhow and are sure to feel the stretch more. It also depends on the horse, how wide it is, if they have smooth gaits or not, and how big a mover it is. In any case, glad you had a good time! :yes: I'd say, if you have to ask about the choco, then it's not necessary to take a pause. I mean, now if I had the stuff, you would know!!

Nice weekend, too bad it's over! Moving this upcoming week/weekend into my apartment! Looking forward to it but also dreading all the packing etc. I'll be happy when school starts again even though life will be crazier than ever! Let see...

I have lost another pound. I'm beginning to wonder if my scale is broken....well, tomorrow I'm going to the gym and I'm going to be weighed and measured...:o . I haven't been able to go for a long time, maybe a week? almost. DH is out of town and I'm going to be brave and try to bring the kids tomorrow....I apologize for not keeping up with everyone elses challenges. I hope to get caught up in the next few days!!

Hello all. Got a bit of time here before I get to the gym. Had a great ride, again, some of the best work so far. NO four-beat canter strides...heh, do or did any of you out there do dressage? dj, wasn't it you who mentioned riding? Someone else too, I think...

Well, as for challenges, I finished Monday OK on everything so I am DONE with the days below. It is now Tuesday and I am working on them....gotta be careful tonight or I may even take a pause on clean living...though that may well be left for my birthday next week.....hmmm....

I went to the gym yesterday morning but was late so only had time to jog 2K. I also weighed in as it was the last night of this fat loss contest but my bodyfat hadn't budged according to their meter. Now, I KNOW that is sooooo wrong because my clothes are much, much looser than when I started but that's the way it goes. The meters aren't accurate. I was sweaty and really retaining fluids but I had to take the measurements then. What a bummer, but what the heck. I least I know I am leaner! Hurrah! :encore:

Did good yesterday. It was so nice and cool too! I'm so glad to have a break in that heat wave we've had for some time now.

Red - Congrats on being leaner, even if the meter didn't show anything. You know how your clothes fit and how you feel and that's what really counts!

Yes, I did mention that I used to ride but never did dressage. Had a few friends that did but that's about it. I used to ride mainly western. Did shows in equitation, pleasure and trail riding and did barrel racing for fun. I did use an english saddle once in a while but only because I loved jumping. Wow, do I miss all that!

Pink - :bravo: on your challenge! Good job!

Oh, yesterday did not end well.... :( I got a lengthy email from work and spent a long time replying to that and then had to run out. So, I forgot to do the crunches. Then, I met a friend who is on the wagon and I didn't want to drink in front of her, so there was no choice really but to have a latte, which goes against my reduced caffeine challenge. I felt so bummed out, didn't drink much later with another friend who was drinking, so I could have called it clear on clean living, but then just caved in and had to take a pause on that as well. What a bummer. I feel disgusted with myself for allowing outside things to hurt me.

Challenge 1: Crunches -- Day 12/no pauses left (Level 1)
Challenge 2: Journaling -- Day 3/1 pause left (Level 1)
Challenge 3: Reduced Caffeine -- Day 12/no pauses left (Level 1)

dj -- Your progress is inspiring! I wish I were doing as well as you, but my resolve is slipping and troubles are messing with my equilibrium and peace of mind. I hate to admit it but that obviously inaccurate reading at the gym is affecting me despite my knowing it shouldn't. I guess I just needed a boost. This is always what happens. I make progress but not enough to really make change like being able to buy nice clothes, really take off enough fat to keep me from hiding the rolls, and then I put it back on because the rewards just aren't enough to keep me going. I slack off. Oh well...
It sounds like you were quite a rider. It'd be nice if you could get some in, even if just a little bit, since you obviously miss it so much. Maybe you could try. Well, keep up the good work...I'll try to press on with mine. :^:

Hey chickies!!!! I am still here and still walking!!! I DID give myself a break after finishing the 21 days, and didn't walk over the weekend ( it was dangerously hot, and being on call kinda puts a damper on hoofing it for long distances) but, I DID go on eBay and purchased a 3 mile WATP video so I dont have that excuse any longer once it arrives!!! I am happy to be exercising though!!! It just feels good!!! One thing I have noticed though, and this makes me kinda sad, I don't have time for my horses when I am focusing on walking, and I have a big show in 3 weeks, and 3 of the horses going are no where close to being in condition!!! Now, if I cloned myself 3 more times, make that 4, then I could get everything done like I would like to get everything done!!!! Anyone able to help me with that?;)

Well, the day was a bad one and I was about to throw in the towel, but I didn't. I had a huge save. Just got back from the convenience store where I was gazing into the frozen food section at certain unmentionables. I was about to buy something, something really horrible. And then I thought, NO!! I won't. I'll go back home and report an NSV here. I bought some hot green tea (that's calorieless of course) and came home. I thought, well, things are shite and all, but eating this junk that I was contemplating is just not going to help things, you know? So, it's in to bed for me. A kind of wasted day, but perhaps in some ways not.... :^:

Another good day here. Nice and cool, which makes working out so much more pleasant! It is supposed to get warmer in the next week, but only into the high 80's. I think all my fans can keep up with that!

Red - Good job with the save! :cp: I know you've been having rough time but, hey, in the end, you did good! You've gotta appreciate those kind of things, they make you feel stronger and help you to go on. Just remember the progress that you have made.

As far as my progress... I know that I've come a long ways, but I have been working at it for 1 1/2 years. It's been long and slow with lots of bumps along the way. I'm just stubborn and refuse to give up! I just wish the weight would come off as easy as it did in the beginning. It seems to come off now in little spurts with long pauses in between now that I'm smaller, which is really frustrating! :tantrum:

Yes, I would love to try and start riding again. I drive my son to work everyday and have to pass 3 equestrian centers on the way! Someday I would love to stop in one of them but finances keep my from doing it at this time. Maybe when my youngest starts school and I go back to working more hours I'll be able to justify the expense. Either that or I need to make some friends that have horses!

Lucky - Good job on the walking! :carrot: Glad to hear you got one the WATP workouts. I really like those, and they are definitely the way to go when it's too hot out! I started out with those workouts myself and now have quite a collection of workout dvd's with everything from walking, to stepping, and even kickboxing. Keeps me from getting bored!

Pink - You've been doing really well, and everyone has a bad day once in a while. Just pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and get back to it. You can do this! :yes:

Good morning. Couldn't sleep well last night. Bad dreams and asthma, but I'm up and ready to leave soon. I feel a bit stronger in resolve today and the scale has nudged down from a bit of loss of fluids I know. I really need to break through the 70-kg mark. That would help me feel like I've actually made progress. It's funny how soon you forget what your body felt like before.


trob -- Glad to see the challenges moving along. :) trob, the attitude isn't really there with the new avatar. It's just me to act "as if" and hope the attitude follows. ;)

dj -- Thanks for the long post and your support of others. You're almost done with your exercise challenge and your calorie one is coming along nicely. Wish I could say the same here. You have seven inches on me and at 184 and me at about 156, you and I probably have about the same difficulty losing weight. You have to really work hard at the exercise I've found. It's the only way to take off more fat. Watching the food intake is the only way to prevent a gain. Not fun, is it? Yeah, I was happy about the save last night. I'm thankful to have some place to report things like this. It helped. The progress I've made never seems like much, especially as I can still wear all the clothes that have become looser. It's a great feeling when they become simply too big to wear but that's a long way off. :( I tell you, if life would just get easier the weight wouldn't be a problem. Ah, to live a life of leisure with no worries. Work with me is a mess as usual and it eats away at me. Too bad it doesn't just eat the stores of fat. I hope you can get some riding in. If you have so much experience riding, I'm sure you could find someone with a horse who perhaps can't get out to ride and you could ask to exercise the horse. Ok, sorry I disapeared for a while, I'm a nurse and I've had to pick up a lot of mandatory shifts latley - it stinks and it leaves me with no time for a social life (even a computer one) I've been off to a very rocky start I've done day 1 3 times so far because I just can't see taking a pause for day #2. ANyway this time today is day 2 - so hopefully I can keep the exercise going a make tommorw day 3 - got run but just wanted to check in with everyone -

You're right Red, this isn't fun! Sometimes I wonder if there are enough hours in the day to exercise! Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be. All we can do is to do what we can and count those calories! I'm at a point now that at least I'm not so unhappy about my weight, so I can try to relax and not worry when the scale isn't moving as fast as it used to. It took me a long time to gain all that weight, I guess it makes sense that it might take a while to lose it.

Now, if I can get through the next few days.... Had a munchie attack when I read something on my computer that my son probably didn't want me to read! Call me nosy, but he is fifteen and a few certain words jumped out at me. It seems that he and his girlfriend are getting a little too close for comfort. I'm not sure exactly how close yet, but it didn't sound too good. :?: Of course I ended up raiding the pantry. Didn't do too bad, but ended up with a 262 calorie binge. Hopefully I'll pull a save though. The day isn't done and I still have calories left for dinner. However, we'll have to see how I handle the "talk" my son and I are having when he gets off work! :rollpin:

Anyways, had to vent I guess. Better go get ready to pick him up. :wave:

First off thanks ladies for the encouragement. Today was much better than yesterday but still not back on my feet quite yet... getting there. Got all my challenges notched off today though! One more day!. I'll be in and out for about a week now... in the process of moving, half my stuff is already there and half here too. Moved my scale already so I'm not such a slave to it. I can't wait to get to that first ten pounds gone mark! I guess to me that means I'm really on my way! Won't have internet till next week most likely once I move my computer so I may be absent for a while!
Can't wait to get back to school (have 2 years left hopefully! doing a 6 year program in 5 if all goes well!). Can't wait to get back to a normal routine, my other job and my friends. And honestly I can't wait to go back to the gym up there. It took me a long time to get over the 'fat chick in the gym' syndrome but once I got going I loved it! Hopefully it'll take care of some of my stress!

Morning all. It is Friday here and I am running late due to asthma last night and a bit of lack of sleep. I want to get to the gym but it's tough....too many problems at work and I was in a state yesterday wondering just what was going on. I still don't really know and have a meeting with the president today...I really don't need all this anxiety, but that's par for the course at the nuthouse I work at! My challenges on doing fine. I knocked out the crunches yesterday and ate decently. The save the other night gave me some much-needed encouragement that, yes, I CAN do it. Thanks for your support, those of you who gave it! :hug:


mumofone -- Welcome to our thread. :welcome: I'm glad to have you aboard and hope you'll give us lots of support. Please be sure to read the rules/guidelines laid out in the opening post. It looks like you already probably have. :yes: Your challenges sound like tough ones. Your first one, the no bread, white rice etc. is like my "clean living" one, well, a part of it. It's tough but will do wonders for you. Sugar and highly processed foods are the bane of success when it comes to eating. I am amazed how it doesn't even occur to me to overeat when I am eating brown rice and no sugar. Walking 40 mins. every day is excellent. Living in Tokyo I walk all the time, but know how hard it can be in other towns. I was only on the outskirts of Dublin once, never got in to the city, but I've been in other areas of Ireland. It is a beautiful country and I greatly enjoyed the pubs! Well, good luck! :goodluck:

EviesMommy -- Good to see you back. I certainly understand how hard it must be being a nurse with the changing shifts and all. The fact that you have kept trying and refused to give up and give in is heartening. Just keep checking in with us...when you have afford yourself a little cyper social life! :lol:

dj -- Yes, I was thinking about what I wrote to's always easier to give advice than to take you own, isn't it? ;) and I was saying, yes, I just have to stop the overeating. And at my height that is very easy to do, overeat that is. When I can't get in real heartrate-raising exercise then I just have to cut way back on food, even if my stomach is growling to wake up the jungle! Actually I've come to like the feeling and realize that just a little bit of food, an apple or a rice ball or whatever will take the edge off just fine and keep me from being lightheaded. I hope things work out with your son. Perhaps a talking to about avoiding the worst case scenario is wiser than trying to prevent the inevitable, if you know what I mean. Or just letting him know that you are there to help if things ever get hairy. It's such a shame to think how some problems snowball just because young people (and old) are afraid to ask for help. And I see you notched another day despite the emotional drama. Way to go, dj! You are rockin'!! :dancer:

Spent most my day running errands and packing but I did get a good swim in and walked the dogs. Lots more to do tomorrow I seem to be a last minute person lately... never used to be.

Waiting till next weekend to start my new challenges as I will be moving all weekend and then going to a friends vacation home for a few days next week. But I will try to stick to heathly choices, exercise and no bingeing. But here are my new challenges:

100 crunches a day
2000 calories or less a day
No eating after 10pm (yeah yeah I moved the time back but when I'm in the school mode and up studying till 2am my midnight snacking gets extreme... could be my downfall)

Keep up all the good work ladies!! :cp: Hang in there Red, will this meeting help ease some of the stress at work? DJ how'd the talk go?

Managed to keep up with my challenges yesterday although for some reason I felt hungrier than normal. Came close to my 1800 but didn't hit it so that's ok.

The talk with my son went pretty well. I managed to keep calm and we had a good talk. He really does want to make the right decisions and assured me that although things got a little out of control, they didn't get too out of control, and that they stopped and even talked about things between themselves. They both want to wait until they're older to get too serious, so I'm happy about that. He's actually a really good kid. Pretty much straight A's and wants to be a scientist, so hopefully he'll keep on track!

Congrats Pink! Good job!

mumofune -- You're very welcome! It's always great to have motivated people aboard and, yes, motivation wanes quickly at times. You're a tough one if yours lasts a few weeks! :lol: Have a great time off. You have me wishing I was in Ireland for some reason. Guess it was a nice time for me. I take it you have some pause days, right? So use them if you need to or you can always start over, but I find in the early days (meaning when you're new to this game) it's good to keep clean and that really helps the motivation. We've been doing this challenge thing for years now and at first there were no pause days. I found that just too difficult and put in the pauses and levels to kind of help people along, but I know some like to go clear through if they can. Well, I'm babbling here...sorry, early morning caffeine. Look forward to seeing you bright and early Monday morning! :wave:

hey all, just making a drive thru here due to the ball tourney. things are going pretty well but i did have to use a pause day for my water yesterday. so i am on day 9 with crunches and day 8 with water. i will be back later to write more!

red- my husband is a photograher and is the official photog. for the regional babe ruth baseball tourney that they are holding in our town. i am very proud of his work. his favorite type is outdoor and wildlife and has even been had some pics in magazines and calendars. since i am so proud of him i always share his web address. it is also a place where you can learn a little bit more about me and my family....stories through pictures.
gotta run.....the games are starting soon.

Heh all. Sunday here and I'm recovering from a long night out. :^: Oh well, call it an early birthday party. ;) I'm going to have to see where this lands me with my challenges though. I'm afraid it ain't lookin' good.... In any case, I will be continuing on where I can, restarting where I have used up my pauses. Birthday bashes or not, this baby's gonna roll!



Shad dearest, don't be a stick in the mud. :lol: It's a silly little animated series of a balloon that scares people, that's all. It's real kid stuff. I wouldn't have put anything on here if it had been otherwise. The name and the description are rather frightening, that's all. I got a kick out of it. In fact, it's so tame, it is really cute and so your imagination hit the spot, really. It is a silly, goofy little balloon just playing pranks, poppin' itself. So, since you yourself keep poppin' in here....pun, intended! :lol3: tell us what's up with you. I take it you're not up to a challenge, eh? How are things at work? You always sound so busy and harried. Hope things are going well! :sunny:

trob -- Good going on those crunches! I admit to having not done mine yesterday. Should have done them in the morning. I had planned to come straight home after work but I was dying to get something off my chest and when a coworker said he'd join me for a pint, one certainly did lead to the next. It was good though. I had a lot to talk about and needed some advice and a trusted friend's perspective. Now, I checked out your husband's Web site and the pictures are gorgeous!! I didn't go through too many but I did go through a couple galleries and, really, they are beautiful. The Special Olympics one actually had me crying, seeing the joy on those faces...great stuff. You'd have to be proud. Enjoy the tourney! :wave:

first i must confess that i didn't get my crunches in yesterday. i was at the ball park from 8am until 1am. i did, however, drink about 200+ oz of water!

glad that you enjoyed the pics red. i am very proud of him. if you ever have a chance to take another look, go to my sons gallery. photos by drew. he was only 12 when he took most of 14.

Day 21 - exercise - good, DONE :carrot:

Day 15 - calories under 1800 - good, 0 pauses left, level 1 BLEW IT

Ok, managed to complete the exercise challenge! However, the calorie challenge didn't make it. I was doing really well, but yesterday was so busy that I didn't have time to log everything as I went along. When I finally sat down to log my food after dinner, I ended up 55 calories over! :o So close! Oh well. I'm not going to start that over yet though. We are going camping for 4 days next week and I'll have no way to log my calories. I'll get going again after we get back.

Red - Yes, I checked out your balloon link. It was rather goofy, but I admit, I got a kick out of it! Sure hope your challenges end up ok!

Trob - I looked at your husbands pics and they are wonderful! Wish I had a talent like that. You have every right to be proud!

Even though I have no challenges right now, I'll still keep up with all of you. Hope you are all having a good weekend! :wave:

Morning all. Monday here and I must get out to the office. I am going to restart all my challenges again on Wednesday, the day after my birthday. I still have been doing them but have been slipshod, and I just want to start clean and strict again and figure I'll give myself till after the birthday celebrations to do that.


trob -- I will do just that...which is your son's gallery? Does it say as such in the title?...oh, I see, it's "photos by drew," right? Well, do double crunches today and I'm sure nobody will call foul on you! ;) Keep up the good work!

I certainly would have allowed it. 55 calories, come on! That is too close to call. I would let it go and continue on. Of course, if you really don't want to, just consider it a restart. Nothing is lost. You had 15 days of staying under 1800! :flow1: Glad you looked at the balloon link. I admit I had no idea what this balloon was or where it was from. I had just found the picture doing a google image search for "balloon" and only later realized there was a Web site. I like the party one. It's so innocent you gotta love it, though I do question why people even make sites like this, you know? :lol: That camping trip sounds like fun. I love getting out into nature and miss that here, though I could go and used to. These days, it's just riding and working. I used to do a lot of hiking, kayaking and cycling. Where will you be going and are you taking a trailer or just tents, or staying in cabins? Your area certainly has the beautiful nature. We were just talking about that area, Oregon, well, maybe far for you, but close when you're looking over from Japan. In any case, I hope you have a great time!

dj- congrats on getting your 21 days of exercise!!! don't be too hard on yourself about your calorie challenge, things happen. thanks for comments about my dh's pics. we took a giant leap of faith in jan. when he quit his job to follow his far so good. remember to take a camera on your camping never know what you might see.

red- hope you enjoyed my son's pics. he has had two published in the last year which made him a professional photographer at the ripe old age of 14. not only does his take great pictures but he is a great kid.
what day is your birthday???

i was smarter today than yesterday, i did my 100 crunches right after i got up. so that marks off my 9th day of crunches and 64 oz of water every day with no pauses left.

Whoof, can't believe I haven't posted in here since the 31st! Let me see if I can figure out where I'm at with my challenges...

Challenge 1: max 15 cheddars per day -- Day 20 today (one pause day left; two taken on Aug 3rd and 5th)
Challenge 2: no chocolate -- Day 15 (3 pause days left)
Challenge 3: keeping a food log -- completing Day 8 (one pause day left; two taken Aug 5th and 6th because of travelling/hiking - no way to record stuff until today)
Challenge 4: no food after 7 pm -- Day 14 (two pause days left, one taken on Aug 3rd)

And my new challenge - to be in bed with lights off at least 8 hrs (preferably 8 hrs 15 min) before getting up time - started today, wish me luck!

I'm afraid I'll be a rare visitor over the next 2-3 weeks, if not longer... overseas move coming up soon, and tons of things to take care of before and after... eeek!
Red, imagine, I was not at all sore after the riding - hurray. :) No idea how come, especially since my boyfriend couldn't move the next day (and for most of the week afterwards!). It was great, can't wait when I can go riding again. :)

trob, it's the 8th. Today is already the 7th here, so it's my tomorrow. I just took a look at your son's photos and they are really nice. The eagles are beautiful and I'm sure it mustn't have been easy to get those. I guess it helps having a photographer father to guide him, but it looks like he has natural talent. Do you think he really just enjoys this on his own? Does he say he wants to be a photographer as a career? Sounds good on your crunches. If you're going to have a busy day, that's the only way to do them really, early!

Sushi, you must be doing something right, not being sore. Perhaps you were able to relax and have good balance as well. Do you do any balance or core muscle exercises? Your challenges sound like they're coming along just fine. Just one more day on the cheddar one! :flow1: Good luck on the lights out challenge and I hope to see you again soon! :yes:

red- drew loves taking pictures but he doesn not want to try and make a living at it, he wants to be a doctor. he says that he wants to make enough money to be able to have all the nice equipment and not have to worry about selling his work. right now, if he could, he would be out hiking with his camera every minute of the day.

sushi- great work! hope that the move goes well.

off to do my crunches and then to the pool. believe it or not, i met another teacher, on a different thread, that teaches in my district and has a daughter that is friends with my daughters. we are going to get together this morning and take our girls swimming. small world.

Good morning all.

Red - Yes, I hated blowing my calorie challenge by only 55 calories but I'm not going to continue right now. With our camping trip coming up on Friday, it's just not worth it. I'll start all new challenges when we get back.

We do have a camp trailer. Actually, just got it after selling our old one because it was too small now that my two older kids have gotten so much bigger and now we have a toddler too! It's not new, but it's new to us! We've gotten spoiled I guess having a trailer. It's so nice to get inside if the weather turns, which happens alot here in Idaho.

We live in south eastern Idaho, near Yellowstone, but we're going camping in central Idaho where we used to live. We haven't been up there since we moved here 7 years ago. We are actually looking to move to Oregon possibly and wanted to go back up to the central mountains one last time before we make our big move.

Sushi - good luck with the big move! Hope it all goes well.

Trob - yes, I will take our camera. Maybe we'll get lucky and see a moose. I don't know why, but they are my favorite. We also have elk and deer and sometimes you can actually spot a wolf! Hopefully, we'll see somthing out there.

Good morning all. OK. After wallowing in my cave for awhile, I am ready to come out and join the human race again. I am finally listening to the good angel some, and not the bad.

I will be starting two challenges tomorrow.

1. NO SODA!!! Soda is evil. Must not drink ;)

2. Follow menu. The focus for this first one is to not have any unplanned out to eats and to monitor portion sizes. Will work my way back to the calorie count.

Both will start 8/8/06, and be level 3s. Heck, let's make them level 1's! There is a whole lot of leeway in the 2nd one, so I shouldn't have to cheat!

I am going to have to add in an exercise challenge soon too. I have decided to train for a sprint distance triathlon sometime early next year. I am also looking for a couple 5k's to do yet this year. The running is going pretty well, though I need to work on the speed now. So, once I figure out which one, and what I need to do to prepare, I will set some challenges to help.

Good morning, all. Well, despite all the issues lately, I have been running again. I started doing a 10 week training program that combines walking and jogging until you are jogging for a full 30 minutes. Well, enough mornings I was trying to convince myself to not run, that it ticked me off and I would jump ahead in the program. This morning, I marked off 3 miles to run. YIKES :fr: I was only averaging a 12 minute mile, and hit the wall at 2.8 miles. Boy do I have work to do.

I didn't start the challenges today as planned. Finished up some of the rare birthday foods I got yesterday so I'll start soon with the challenges. I got a call from the stable saying my horse has a swollen eye, nearly shut so that is worrying me. The horse is eating and has no fever but I worry about anything and everything! :^:


trob -- It sounds like your son has learned a lot watching your husband! :lol: He sounds like he has heard the problems and knows what he has to do to get around them. Would we all have such clear goals from early on! And thank you too for the birthday wishes! Hope the "touch and go" situation ends with you on top! :strong:

dj -- Yeah, trailers are nice. I remember one of those old Coleman ones that you pulled behind the car and then cranked open. We rented one when I was a kid and it was a lot of fun. Of course, it is mostly just for sleeping as there isn't much room in it but it was still fun. It must be nice to have a big one.

jolly -- Hello there and glad to have you back and with two new challenges. Wow, a level 1 for the evil soda! I know you can do it! Good luck on that running! :yes:

carla -- Good to see you and thank you! The day got a bit better yesterday after my last post. I went to the party and the people were so sweet. I had a ton of the brew and then taxied off to work and hooked up with the drinking coworkers and only got home this morning after 6 a.m. God, that's my second all-nighter this week! Going to have to rein it in, eh? I knew you'd like the avatar more, but I admit that I do too now that I know its background. When I said before that it wouldn't be staying I hadn't known anything about it. Now I realize it's a little prankster and that IS like me... :lol3:

hi all,
it seems like this thread is what i need to get me motivated to establish new habits, so i hope you don't mind if i jump in.
i've been off the wagon for some months now and i have gained 5 pounds of the 15 pounds that i've lost since i started dieting (yet again) in january.
i started exercising again yesterday, so i'm on day 2 on my daily exercise challenge which will be a level 3.

i will start my other challenges on sunday because i have to attend a party on saturday.

Hey y'all. Well, day 2 both challenges met . . . at least technically. REally wasn't making healthy choices, but I met the parameters of my challenge. I just have to remind myself that I have to start out small again, to get back to where I was before I lost focus.

I also took a nap this mroning instead of working out. Felt really good after so :?: I run again in the morning.

Hello everyone! :wave: I still haven't started anew, but I am not doing too badly either. Staying away from sugar and just did my crunches. There's so much going on that I think I may do like jolly and take it easy on the official challenges, but ratchet up the difficulty when I can. I've been doing way too much drinking! :nono:

I'll start them all tomorrow, even though I have done them today..some of's sooo hot here. Officially the temperature was just under 38 C but on the pavement it was 47! Let's see, that's just under 100 and 117 degrees Fahrenheit! :beach:


jolly -- Thanks about the horse. Her eye looked much, much better. There was just a bit of swelling of the lower eyelid. She seemed kind of lethargic so I just did a bit of easy work. It was so hot too. I hear you on the starting out small. That's good. It keeps you reined in. Keep up the good work! :cp: And great running! :yes:

Good morning all. Just had to pop in as I slime all over my desk. I did my run this morning (OK, where is the smilie for dripping with sweat???). I managed to complete the whole 3 mile loop today - partially due to some divine inspiration. As I hit the last 1/2 mile, I got passed by a particularly fine looking pair of buns. Even though I couldn't keep up with him, it did inspire me to keep going. My time was slower today by a bit, but no more than I expect due to not working out and eating poorly yesterday.

I am glad your horse is starting to do better, Red. I want to start kicking butt again on my challenges, but I know I was having some serious mental blocks with things, even before my dog got sick. So, I know I have to get some success with small challenges, and start building up my healthy habits again, so I can keep going.

Just felt like popping you ever really feel all revved up with no where to go, like the energy is there waiting for you to tap into it and really kick A? Well, that's the way I feel now, but it's time for bed and I plan to get up and go to the gym early, run 5K AND do weights...wish me luck, all!

Last night I had this wonderful dream where I tried on these clothes, a simple white shirt and black jeans and the jeans were just way too big. No yucky always too tight feeling. I was small in my clothes. Ah, it was a great feeling...I wonder where it came from. Sure wish I could get there now..without buying clothes two sizes too big for me...:lol: ah, well, I can dream... :^:

challenges are all going well. i am at day 11 for both with no pauses left. i start back to work in the morning, not ready but what choice do i have. at least when i am at work my schedule is somewhat consistant which helps keep my eating in check. the ball games are all over...THANK GOODNESS...but they have left my whole family drained and grumpy. not what i need to deal with as the new school year starts. i hope that i can get caught up on everyone soon. just know that i am in your corner cheering for you!!

it looks like i am going to have to start my water challenge over. sitting through meetings all day does not go well with drinking 64 oz of water. SOOO, i am just going to stop both of my challenges for now until i get back into the swing of school. the crunches are not that big of a problem but we are going to be out of town this weekend and i can't see me getting down on the floor in a hotel room to do them. i just don't seem to be having very good luck with my challenges but at least i am trying.

Well, Red - I am now in the horse worrying boat. I went out to the barn yesterday, and my boy had a swollen rear fetlock. A little warmth in two spots, but nothing alarming. Favoring the leg a bit, but again, not in a huge way. Not bothered by pressure or touch. Just swollen. So, cold water and liniment, and hope it goes down. I really don't need a large vet bill right now. But, I need him well.

Anyway. Day 4 of my challenges met yesterday. I am going to add some tomorrow, just to keep my a bit more focused. Today I am going to the fair though, so I will wait.

Morning all. Not much action around here of late, is there? That seems to be in keeping with my own get up and go, or rather my lack thereof. :( Things are not good for me and I have to find a way to put some energy back into my life...well, I'll work on that later...right now it's 5 a.m. and I have to get ready to leave. Just turned on the TV and there was some old black and white movie on with some Godzilla-like lizard terrorizing the Roman Coliseum. What was that, I wonder? Maybe it's just what I need, a bit of the old-time horror show, it could put my own horror show in perspective.... :^:

hey jolly girl, red and dj, just rolled back into town from good ole' branson mo. little did we know that there was a huge antique car show going on in town which brings in thousands of people. now i don't know if any of you have ever been to branson or not but if you have you know that it is not that big of a town. there were people EVERY where!! i think that we ended up with the last room in the whole town. anyway, it was not good for a person's diet. i know that i should go survey the damage but i just can't bring myself to do it yet. i hope that i am able to jump back into my challenges and maybe add a few more this week but i am just going to take it one day at a time. there is a lot of eatin' meetin's, as my daddy used to say, going on in my building right now (school building...first week back for teachers and that seems to be the only thing most of them can think must be from the stress of a new year beginning). well, i have got to head out and go grocery shopping. i have convinced my whole family to start watching what they eat and making better choices. it probably won't last long but we are going to try it anyway.

red- i hope that you are able to pep yourself up some. i have been at a place before in my life where it seemed that everything was out of my control and i didn't like it. hang in there and i am sure that you will find the energy you need to tackle whatever it is that you are dealing with. good luck...i am thinking about you!

I am going to add a third challenge, starting today. "Healthy Eating" - which will be defined in this challenge by 1) eating 2 servings each per day of fruits and veggies, and 2) no unauthorized chocolate (I can have the following: low fat choc milk, granola bars, and my low cal frozen treats).

I will get back on track. Off to do a few things before an early bed. I never seem to get the sleep I want. Take care everyone :wave:

Alright I'm back ladies... moved in completely (well almost all unpacked) and with regular internet to check in! So happy to be back.... really had a food filled week, while I did get in a ton of exercise I ate all of it and more. Ugh but I'm back and ready to start my challenges in the morning!! I'm hoping that now that I'm settled I'll be able to plan out my meals better and hopefully in advance so I might stick to it more as I know that is where my weight is staying on. Weighing in tomorrow morning... well I guess this morning... seem to be up at all hour lately :-(

100 crunches a day
2000 calories or less a day
No eating after 10pm

Hi everyone:wave:

I have been stuck on "pause" mode for quite a while now and I have gained 5 lbs. so maybe it's a good idea to try to go into "play" mode again before I gain back all the weight that I've lost.:(

My tracker is not accurate, but I'm planning to lose the 5 lbs. I've gained ASAP.;)

My level 3 challenges are::crossed:
1. Exercise daily for at least 30 mins.
2. Food journal
3. A daily net calories of 1200-1500
I started my challenges yesterday, so I'm on day 2.:hyper:

Great news... despite eating everything in sight and nothing healthy during my move I still managed to not gain any weight back.... while I didin't loose any I'm thankful becasue I figured I gained at least 4 pounds this week... Relief... Ok On with the new challenges!!

Hey all. Real quick check in - mainly because I came home to a little "oops" from my girl, and this room really really stinks!

Congrats, Pink for not gaining. I wish I could say the same. Gained 2 more pounds last week. Well, that is why I added the new challenge, and joined the circuit class again.

I had to take a pause on following the menu. I had a stressful payroll MOnday, and I ate out. Bad choice, I know. So, day 8 of no soda, day 7 still of follow menu, and day 2 of healthy eating.

The good news is that I went out to the barn and my horse's leg is about 90% better. He was very well behaved too, so that made up for the crappy Monday (at least until I found the "oops"). Hopefully this means we can ride again, and no expensive vet bill.

Hello! Just got back from a week away. I didn't eat too much, but I wasn't exactly on a diet either.....;)
I am determined to get back on it here. Guess what? I'm trying that no beer deal again. If I can't do it this time I think I'll hit AA....So tomorrow will be day 1. There are no bottles around to tempt me and it's going to stay that way!!!

So I lied…. I didn’t start my challenges today (…yesterday now) but I’ll try again in the morning. Insomnia is killing me… currently 4:30am and wide awake. But I’m exhausted all day long… if I nap it just turns into more hours missed at night… ahhhh what a vicious cycle. Hopefully once I get back into the school, work and life routine it’ll get more normal. I am getting a lot of work done though on my hours up, but not exercise and certainly no healthy food. It’s hard to get back on the bandwagon now that I have been off with this move for so long.
Hey Girlie, Red, DJ and Trob!! Jolly what good news about your horse and everyone deserves to go out once in a while! Keep up the good work! Welcome back Apple!

Morning all. I have a confession to make. This morning when I was jogging, I realized I need to take a pause day on healthy eating for yesterday:o While I kept the no unauthorized :censored: part of the challenge, I forgot to have a second fruit. :fr: HORRORS. So, off I start again.

Even though my knee was still a bit off from the 5 hours of fair walking in bad shoes Saturday, and other parts were sore from my circuit class yesterday, I did go out and do my three miles. My time was slower, but I completed it feeling pretty good, with no new soreness. Hurray!

Anyway, off to get some stuff done. Have a great day all :wave:

Hi all, I'm back. We had a great time camping and it was really hard to make ourselves come home. It was so pretty where we went! We actually camped in two different places. The second one was right under the Sawtooth Mountains and I can't wait to go back there. It was our first time there and I felt like I needed more time to explore and enjoy. Oh well, maybe we'll get there again if we don't move away.

I'll think about what challenges I want to do in the next day or so. We are all still trying to clean up and unpack, so I just can't think about it quite yet. I definitely need to get back on track though. I enjoyed the camp food a little too much and have no desire right now to see what the scale says! :o Give me a day or two.

Hope all is well with everyone. I'll do some more catching up later. :wave:

Hi all :wave: Just a quick check in before bed. All challenges met for the day . . . unless I missed one that I will remember in the morning :o

Only one thing to report - I will have to miss my circuit training class tomorrow. I went to the chiropractor for my hip - he said I should only walk for the rest of the week, and ice it as needed. Well . . . I iced and rested tonight, and am going to try my yoga tape in the morning. Hopefully then I can jog again Thursday and do my class on Friday.

Alright I'm kicking it into gear now, finished all my challenges today. Trying to cut out caffinated drinks from my day altogether to help my sleeping... def a challenge for me but I can't keep staying up till 5 or 6 am. Joined the Christmas Challenge... ready to get serious. While the 40 pounds/2 pounds a week might be a little steep for me I want to at least try! I won't be seeing much family or friends from home till Thanksgiving and won't see everyone till Christmas so I have something to look forward to showing off at and some motivation to stay on track. Back in the gym next Monday...can't believe I'm saying this but I can't wait!!!

I bought some hand weights for home the other day... 5 pound ones... and realized I'm pretty out of shape, being out of the gym for about 4 months now but also realized that I have lost one of those weights already... almost both, off my body. I'm ready to take these pounds off I'm carrying around!

Day 1 - 100 crunches a day
Day 1 - 2000 calories or less a day
Day 1 - No eating after 10pm
Day 1 - 30 Minutes of Exercise a day

Well, I ended up saving my yoga tape for later. The hip was still sore this mroning, so I took a nap on an ice pack. Feels better now, so will try to do the tape tonight. I hate not working out though. Now I feel all blah and bloaty.

jolly- take care of that hip and don't over do. i know that you want to get back to all your exercise but you don't want to hurt yourself more.
pink- WAY TO GO!!!! looks like you have got some great ones to start. i stopped drinking caff. drinks many years ago...well not totally but i don't keep them at home. i found that if i had 1/2 cup or so first thing in the morning that i was fine the rest of the day. i would buy one at work and pour a little out and then give the rest away. has worked for me. and i sleep much better. good luck

i have still not started any new chall. and probably won't until i start having classes next week. right now my schedule is so crazy with back to school meetings and trying to get my room ready that i can't think of anything else.

Not a bad day, I am cutting out my workout challenge though. I'm still going to try to get it in everyday but until I get on a regular schedual with work and school I'm going to put it off. Drinking a lot more water today :-)

Good day overall. Got a good workout in today and also ate way under my calories... I keep thinking I missed something big but I think I actually really ate healthy and reasonable today!!

Good morning all. I'm still here, just been really busy playing catch up after our trip. I will start my challenges on Monday being that we have a busy weekend coming up.

Yes, I did take some pics on our trip, but I have not even had time to unload them! I'm going to try to get that done since I'm curious to see how they turned out. Got some pics of a deer (a buck) that was in our camp and I'm hoping they turned out ok. He kept moving around so I'm not sure if I got a good shot. Also got lots of scenery pics that I hope are ok. (I'm not a very good photographer unfortunately!)

Hey there all! Things are and will be utter **** from here on out for me on the work front. There are HUGE changes being made there and I am a part of them. I asked. I got it. There are HUGE problems with the union and well, I can't even sleep at night, thus my lack of presence here. That said, if I keep things simple I can do this as well. I am going to start up a simple challenge soon. With everything going on, I know it is CRUCIAL that I stay strong and disciplined. Usually when things are crazy you want to give yourself room, but this is not something that is going to go away. It's going to be my everyday. I have to be able to deal with it ALL the time and the only way I see this being possible is to be extremely disciplined myself. So, I will start a new thread later....until then hope to see you here! :wave:

The first is 16oz of water BEFORE any soda.... I am so bad! The second is to stick to my protein-shake meal plan.... I have been doing it for 4 days now! YAY! Both challenges are level 3's.

hey everyone, not much going on here...just trying to get my house in order before we all get back in school on monday. my the looks of it you would think that i had been on vacation all summer long. i am going to start my water challenge back on monday and then look at adding weekly.

red- i hope that you are able to deal with your work problems while at work and then leave them at the door when you go home each day.

dj- hope the pics turn out great. wildlife shots are so much fun to take, or in my people take. there are times when i am out with my dh when i think that the animals know that we are not there to hurt or maybe they just like getting their picture taken.

jolly- hope that you are all rested up from the fair and glad to hear that you had a good time.

Well, here's the scoop on the beer challenge....I had to restart after day one. Silly son got a hold of a bottle of beer and dropped it, breaking the seal so it HAD to be consumed. Can't let a good beer go to waste. THATS how pathetic i am....anyway, got through 2 days and today, if I make it through, will be day 3. I'm going to visit old friends in 3 weeks, if I can do this I will have a great reward!!! I think I can I think I can I think I can..........I'd also really like to drop 5 pounds by then, but I'm not quite convinced that I can do THAT. Maybe something will click....
Hope things work out well with work Red!

Glad you had fun at the fair Jolly. I took my kids to our county fair. It was quite a day.....

Exercise 30 minutes per day, level 3

Once again, I let things throw me off my plan so I need to get back to basics.

looks like alls well with everyone. i have not started any challenges yet because i am finding that getting back into the routine of teaching is challenge enough right now. plus, i am a little worried about my water intake since i have days when i go three hours without a bathroom break.

Well, so much for being an inspiration. I'm going to have to re-start my challenges and I am not going to start right away. My life just got turned upside down and I have been so busy! My husband suddenly might have a new, better job, which is great, however, we've been wanting to move closer to family who are in California and this job is in Wyoming! Wrong direction! :tantrum: I just don't see how we can turn down the money though, so I have been researching the towns in Wyoming that he has to chose from and have been trying to figure out which town might be best. I guess it's good we have a couple of choices anyways. I also found out that if this goes through, he'll be expected to start in about 4 weeks. :fr: We have so much to do if this happens. We've got to get this house ready to sell fast when and if we get the word and it sounds pretty promising.

Anyways, I'll keep in touch and I'm going to try to get back on track. I just can't promise anything right now.

Well, day four is done! and I'm quite sure I can make it to the week-end. And hopefully by then I'll be too deeply into it to quit. I'd REALLY like to get this challenge done....If I were to pop a cold one, today cerainly would be the day. There has been a lot of tension between DH and I, mostly becuase I am not a good communicator. It sucks.:kickcan:
DJstorey...I hope everything works out for the best for you! Moving is always exciting and sad at the same time. Especially with kids! Please remember to take care of yourself! Keep us posted too!

hey all, i did better on the water today but my schedule was much lighter. i am just going to have to figure out how to get all my water in, not just for challenges but because i know that it is good for me. i have been trying to decide what to challenge myself with but right now it is just going to have to be surviving.
red- yeah, i am pretty much locked up for part of the day.
when you have a classroom full of 10 year olds you can't just run to the bathroom whenever.
apple- way to go...keep up the good work and think positive thoughts.
dj- good luck with everything. hope whatever you want to happen...happens.

Good morning all. Well, after a very busy couple of days off, I am back. BAck to work today too. So I am sure today will be crazy.

I just wanted to post quick before I ran to work and the gym. It should be a run day, but we are having a mother of a storm here, and for some strange reason, I don't feel like being out in it :?: I am getting my butt to the gym to use the treadmill though, so that is something.

So, challenges . . .

1. Daily exercise, including abs/back.

2. Eat healthy - no soda, no unauthorized :censored:, at least 2 servings of fruits and vegetables.

Let me get a handle on these, and then I can add in something about eating out. My pocketbook needs it.

Thanks Red, Trob and Apple! Yeah, it's kind of a funny situation, we really need the money and it's a good paying job and the benefits are great. This is the kind of job my husband could retire from, it's just taking us so far away from our families! I keep trying to decide what's more important, but both are. I guess though, if we're doing better financially, we could afford to go visit more often so that might be good, I'd just rather live closer. I'm just going to try to stay cool, and wait for the company to let us know if they decide to hire my husband and see what exactly the offer is. And yes, some areas of Wyoming are beautiful which does help.

Anyways, I'm giving myself at least a few more days before I try to start up my challenges again. I'm just not really in the mood to spend time logging calories and I have been really busy trying to figure out the logistics of moving. Maybe by next week, I'll be more mentally ready to think about challenges again.

Red - I sure hope your changes work out well for you! Glad to see you still popping in here even though your not doing challenges either!

Trob - Good luck with that water situation! Maybe as you get back into a routine and things calm down, you'll figure something out.

Apple - keep positive thoughts going! I know it can be hard when you're having issues at home, but think of the good you're doing for yourself!

It's been awhile since I have posted. I would like to start a challenge. I am only going to do one challenge at this time, since everytime I get ahead of myself and try to do too many at once and mess it all up:stress: .

I am challenging myself to walk everyday. Doesn't matter how far or how long right now, I just have to fit it in somewhere.:goodluck:

dj -- From what you've said, I think you should take the job. It sounds like a great opportunity and they don't come that often. As you pointed out, the extra money can have you visiting the families more or even bringing them to you. Also, your husband can always quit if it is really not working out. But yes, it hasn't even been decided, so stay cool and sit tight. I'm surprised that, with everything, you're even considering doing challenges. Good for you. You're staying proactive and that is important! :strong: Ride the wave, don't let it knock you under.

apple- i was drinking 64 oz at day which is not really that much for me but with my schedule the way it is this year (i teach art) my breaks are few and far between.

red- hope the rain lets up so that you don't have to swim to work.

dj- just take it one day at a time. i have always thought that what is supposed to happen will happen.

jolly- keep up the good work!! i wish that i could be as committed as you.

Red - Yes, as long as the actual offer is as good as what they were telling my husband, we'll probably accept. Unless of course, we find something in the meantime that we like better.

Red Balloon, I picked up your 21 day challenge. It has been two weeks now.
I have been posting in the race to 199. I am 7 pounds away from winning the race!

My goals are:
1. exercise every day (usually means 2 miles on the treadmill)
2. eat right
3. keep a food log

okay guys, i have decided to keep my challenges pretty easy for right now. i am not sure if my walking challenge will fit into the 21 day plan but maybe it will work.

challenges...starting monday, aug. 28
keep a food journal- level 3
walk 10,000 steps at least 5 times days a week- level 3
drink water 16 oz with every meal- level 1
100 crunches- level 3

i am also starting the 18 week challenge and my goal there is to be 175 by new years day. that means that i need to loose just under 2 lbs per week.
