Mini-Goals - A Whole New World: One-derland and an Anniversary

07-15-2006, 11:55 PM
Last week, hubby and I were in a store and I was trying on clothes. I saw him looking at a shirt that I liked, but he didnít bring it over.

ďWhy didnít you get one?Ē
ďThey didnít have an extra largeĒ
ďHoney, Iím fitting into large nowÖ Itís a whole new world!Ē

And it really is.

One year ago I weighed 295 pounds. My knees hurt going up the stairs. I couldnít stand up from a chair or the floor without a struggle. I snored, loudly, and didnít sleep well. I had what I think were heart palpitations. I wore 4X tops and size 30 pants and felt I had so few choices, and those were dwindling. I was only 39 years old and felt nearly 60.

I am well on my way to a healthier me. Iíve lost 97 pounds in the past year through calorie counting, healthy eating, and exercise. Iíve slowly changed so many things about my life that itís staggering! And I feel Iím doing things I could do for life and not depriving myself horribly in the process. And Iíve changed in kind. I am still obese, yes, but can just do so much more! I have more energy than I thought possible. Whatís more, I feel in control of what I eat for the first time in my life.

So, here I am, on my one-year anniversary of starting this journey (to my best recollection Ė I started so slowly I donít even know the date) -- in Onederland for the first time in 16 years, and planning to go further. I feel like the road ahead is unknown Ė I canít recall what non-obesity is like Ė but I am so grateful to have a community of people to help me find the way!!!! Thanks to all at 3fc!!!

Heather, I am SO happy for you!!! Green with envy too LOL.

How wonderful that you and your hubby made OneDerland on the same day! Incredible and what a tremendous celebration for both of you!

I can relate as I too was about your weight when I started.. .298... except I AM almost 60 LOL (59 to be exact) and I know just what you mean. Even with the loss of 51 (77 still to go) I can do SO much more. YOU have been such an inspiration and encouragement to me and so many others here with your consistent KIND responses to people.

Bless you on your continued weight loss journey... and happy shopping! :)

Thanks for all your encouragement and good words!

I don't know that I feel like I'm inspiring, but I'm inspired by so many others here and I guess maybe they feel the same way...?

I hope Meg is right and that in a year I'll be in a place I can't imagine. There's a part of me that's a bit... scared?... of what's to come but no longer so much as to hold me back. That's the old me. I can't wait to see what the next year brings.

I took pics, but at this point will have to wait till tomorrow to post them -- sleep's important too!

You know those people that start something and you wonder whether or not they will be able to finish? You are not one of those people. I don't think anyone else here thinks you are either. You inspire me.
