Texas? This time of year?
I was born there and my father lives in Houston, but I made it a rule a long time ago never to patron that state in the summer months unless it was straight to the beach. As far as metropolitan cities go, Dallas has it all. From what I hear the downtown scene is pretty cool. Are you going to be able to travel a bit?

I haven't spent that much time in Dallas, but San Antonio is wonderful.
There is this great water park called schliterbaun (spelling?) in New Brunfels (again not sure on the spelling). The water park consistantly gets in the top 3 waterparks on the travel channel

all I can tell you is bring a BUNCH of shorts!!! we're looking at the upper 90's all week. If you get time and want to go that far, the Fort Worth stockyards area is a fun place to walk around. And of course the zoo
