I know that I struggle with exercise and I'm sure that others do too. Since exercise is one of the best things for Insulin Resistance it is very important for those of us who deal with this to get moving.
I challenge you to exercise 600 minutes in June...It works out to 30 minutes, 5 days a week. We Can Do It

IRISH!! I failed!! DAY #1.
Is it possible to play catch up? As long as we hit the 600 goal by the end of the month. Your the rule maker here. I did do a little house work tonight. Does that count?

You didn't fail! You have 29 days left to get some intentional exercise in. I wouldn't count housework. Major Yardwork maybe but everyday household stuff I don't count as exercise.

Great challenge idea! You are right. The exercise is SO important for us. It not only makes the difference in weight loss for the IR chick, but we're also at a higher risk of heart disease. Exercise for a longer, healthier life! :)

Okay so I can work this out however I want, right? As long as the end result is 600 minutes? I'm just saying that because of my work schedule, some days/nights/mornings may be easier for me to get MORE time in is all I'm sayin.

FLADY Yep...the point is just for those of us that are struggling to get in any form of exercise excluding housework to work on moving more!
So however it works for you...go for it!

Well I was outside for 2 hours tonight working in the yard. I probably only worked about an hour and half between mowing the lawn with a reel mower and pulling up the carpeting on our deck :( Why do people do that?
But anyways I am only going to count 30 min of it today since I planned to get to the gym but didn't.
Anyone else?
I did 15 minutes on my elliptical trainer and almost blew out a lung! I have been soooo lazy for so long that I think exercising is going to kill me. I'm going to try using my ab roller for a bit. I'm still suffering from an upset stomach for the Metformin, so I don't want to go too crazy with the working out. Also, I can't really go for a bike ride or a walk because I need to be really close to the bathroom! :(

KSC - I hear ya about the Met and I know all about its "side effects:  I couldn't take it just made me too sick. :barf: Now I'm taking a "Form" of Met, but its different. Its Fortamet, it is much, much better, for me!
Good Luck!

Well I am stuck at 45 minutes. I have been really slacking lately! Now the weather is icky so yardwork is out. Today I won't be able to make it to the gym but it is on the calendar for tomorrow. NO MORE EXCUSES!!

irisheyes-You can do it! :cheer: I know what you mean about the weather, its only 59 F here and rainy!!!!!!!! This is JUNE, right? lol. A good idea for a "Rainy Day" is either cranking up the tunes and dancing at home or walking in the mall. You can "shop and drop--the weight" at the same time! ;)

Hey Ladies!
Just wanted to let you know I can add another 2 hours to my minutes! We scrubbed this apt. good so I think that has to count! So I'm now up to (trying to do math in my head, which isn't a good thing! lol) about 240 minutes? Can that be right??????? I had 120 before, add another 120 right? that is 240? Am I right? Wow! Those minutes sure do accumulate! Now it makes me want to add another 120 minutes! lol.
:dust: and :cheer: for everybody who needs them!

Good Job Shel
Personally I no longer count cleaning as exercise but I did at my highest weight when it was a major effort hence why I don't have many minutes LOL. Keep going and I hope you get your walk in today :)
Sassy_Chick
06-14-2006, 12:27 AM
Well I guess I shouldn't be counting cleaning as exercise then? If so then I'm back down to 120. Ah well............I tried. lol
irisheyes213
06-14-2006, 10:24 AM
Shel: Like I said, at my heaviest weight cleaning was a huge effort that tired me out for the whole day so I did count basic stuff. But now, I only count things that are not regular activities. Things like steam cleaning the carpets or cleaning out the spare bedroom. I count yardwork but I only count is as 1/3 of the time worked unless it is something out of the ordinary like laying stepping stones or removing a bush. Does that make sense?
I guess I look at that everyone has to mop or vaccuum their floors and everyone has to scrub the bath. Being able to do it yourself is a good thing but to me personally it is not intentional exercise.
I know I told Amanda that cleaning doesn't count but I guess if you are both at a point in your journeys that cleaning is a struggle than count it or count part of it. Does that make sense?

06-15-2006, 12:42 AM
It makes sense. But I won't count it as its something that HAS to be done. So I am still at only 120, those are legitimet (sp?) points. ;) I guess I just wanted to make my #'s go up and wasn't getting the true "point" of it all.........

Hi all!
How is everyone doing? I really kicked some exercise tail during my vacation. Played frisbee, walked forever, worked out in the hotel, mini putt...etc!
Having the book on cd has really helped! I have 4.5 cds left to finish and it is due back on the 1st. I am hoping to get it finished before then.
Hope everyone can find a way to move a bit more today!

Hey Ladies.
Well I am a bit short..............in exercise.................lol.
I came in about 145 minutes total. Soooooo there is always next month! I do want to look into this Walk Away the Pounds that I've been hearing about. Anything to at least get me started! Maybe I'll even order Richard Simmons to get me motivated, I need something here! lol.
Anyways. I hope you all did better than me.
Have a Great Day!
I lost track of my minutes. Seems like I spend half my day out in the backyard with the puppy, so I'm sure I came close to the 600, if not more.

WWWAHHHOOO! I did it! I only did it because I got my butt moving on vacation but I did it! I probably shouldn't count the extra 40 minutes only because they were walking to/from DQ :)
Anyone up for July?
