I came to this thread previously but it "sort of" died out so I was thrilled to see it was moving along.

Cowgirl: thanks for the tip on the Wal-Mart brands. I saw them at the store Thursday for the first time but didn't get them. I wanted to get the soy Slimfast but haven't seen it here yet. I live in a small rural community so it might be years before we have soy Slimfast. :(
I, like many of you, like the fact that with SlimFast I don't have to think about food all of the time. The less I have to think about it the less I eat.
I also find, since I currently live alone, that is saves time not having to cook and eat in the evening. I can have SlimFast in a few minutes and then get on with other projects.
I have been sloughing off on the exercising lately and need to get bact to it.
I am thrilled you are all posting. I need the support and maybe can help by giving some.....:)

Hi everyone. Here i am looking for help. I started this plan last tuesday. Well, i've been to the store several times and purchased many different flavors of shakes, and snacks. Here's the problem, I'm so in love with the stuff, I'm overeating it. I'm confessing, I think I've gained in the last few days, I'm afraid to weigh myself. I'm pledging to this site not to buy any snacks this week and use only the shakes, salads and fruits on the diet this week, until I can better control my obsession. Thanks for listening.

I did that with the low fat devil's food cookies that came out a while back. I was under the mistaken impression that as long as they were low fat I could eat whatever I wanted, which seemed to be boxes. I finally decided I couldn't have them in the house at all.
My sister does slim fast and got hooked on some kind of chocolate granola type bar they had. She only keeps just a few days worth of slim fast around. She says she does better that way.
I guess too much of even something healthy isn't a very good idea!!!

Hi LadyBug! It's so great to hear from you again. Thanks for starting the new post. You got it right. I'd started #7 once but before the others found it it was locked out by Mrs Jim. Things was confusing around here for a spell!:lol:
Kathy don't worry you'll get yourself sorted out. I had the same problem with those snack bars. You just need to get your bearings. It took me about two months to actuall start loosing weight because I was determined not to starve myself! Of course I went a bit overboard with the snacks. Now i make sure to eat very frequently but healthy. I have been having fruit more often as a snack rather than the goodies. Also eating a snack between meals helps keep hunger under control. I did manage to loose 70 pounds in the past year, when I started I never could have imagined I'd achive this! I still have about 80# to loose but I know that I can do it. I'm almost halfway there. Even loosing one pound in a week is something to be proud of and some weeks just maintaining the loss is a major win. Don't get discouraged. One pound at a time we'll all do it togather!
I have had a major schedual change and am working days now so I have not lost much. My eating plan is all out of wack but I'm working on getting it back togather. :cool:

Thanks cowgirl, for the encouraging words. I would have never thought I'd gain or overeat diet food. Boy did it knock me for a loop. The other thing is that my daughter and brother are also on the program and even though there's no compitition, you know there is . Both of them are doing great, no problems. But me here I go and mess up yet another diet. I'm just so angry at myself. I have to keep telling myself that it's not a race, I'll lose what i'm surpose to lose. But since when did I ever listen to myself. LOL Thanks again for you understanding post.

Way to go CGirl.....I think you are right about eating more frequently. I don't and end up over eating at some point on those days.
Today I restart FOR THE LAST TIME . It seems I do good for a couple days and then fall by the wayside.
Too bad we can't all stay connected 24/7 for support. :lol:

The snack subject is so appropriate! I was sooo hungry yesterday morning so I ate 2 snack bars, then felt really guilty. I did not drink my breakfast shake, but did drink a lunch shake ate a small dinner and had my late night snack.
I was not happy that I scarfed down 2 snack bars but I was in the mood to chew. Hopefully the breakfast shake and 2 snacks being cut out and the size of my dinner getting reduced made up for my blunder.
I might try a small breakfast with my shake (like a spoonful of eggs), then nix the morning and afternoon snack when I am feeling really hungry, eggs should be better than 2 snack bars. My hunger and the the time of day it occurs changes weekly. I am trying to accomodate these times of day.
I am in week 3 and thought that the hunger would be gone by now. I have started back to running so I may just really be hungry. My energy though has been wonderful. I feel a lot better overall because I know I am getting vitamins from the shakes that I desperately needed.
Kathy, and Ladybug -- Stick with it. I am there with you. But when we fall off the wagon we just have to remember to dust ourselves back off and start again. It is hard to not feel competitive to other people or the calendar, but we have to do it right and celebrate other people's successes and strive to be successful and we will and hopefully those other people will pat us on the back when we succeed. We are all made different and some people will lose faster or slower than we will and we have to work with what we were given.
It is funny to read what I just wrote, because it makes sense, and I have to admit I am extremely competitive and don't like it when someone else looks better than me, but I need to keep going and remain patient and I will lose what I am trying to.
Please keep at it, you will see results!!

Well, I had a shake for breakfast, Subway low fat sandwich for lunch and a meal replacement bar for dinner.
I think I need to add some snacks...either SlimFast or fruit etc. AND find a way to keep my mind busy. I don't feel hungry but eat for entertainment at night. It's not as though I don't have a ton of things to do....:dizzy: :lol: :dizzy: :lol:
Well, off to do one of my millions of projects....

Hi everyone. I did much better today. I forgot breakfast. Was out with my daughter who insisted we stop for lunch. I ordered a rib eye sandwich. Well let me tell you, I only ate half the sandwich, about 8 frys, and took the rest home to my husband. I'm still full and haven't even wanted dinner. I plan on having a snack with tea later. Think I'm still full from the overeating the other day.LOL Well that's it for me. Hope everyone had a good day, and thanks for all your encouraging words.

Way to go everyone. Think positive. I found that I actally don't get as hungry after a year on the plan. Even on my off days when I allow myself to indulge AI have discovered that my apetite is gone prety quick. If a small snack does'nt cut it sometimes you could beef it up by adding some fruit or having a small salad instead. I find that just indulging a craving that has been going on for days is the best thing to do. Once I had the munchies real bad for two weeks. I ate everything! When I finally gave in and had the Salsa, sour cream(low fat) and chips(corn,unflavored),that I had been wanting the muncies quit and I could get back to my regular eating scedual. It didn't set me back too much either. Listen to your body. Sometimes it is trying to tell you something important.These two pics are of me in december 1999 and december 2000. One year makes all the difference!Dont give up!

Ladybug -- I get the late night munchies too, (really bad) usually around 9-10pm. I have been going and taking a shower when I think I am about to binge. It helps some. But when I get nestled in watching TV the show isn't the same without a snack. It is really hard.
I was really hungry yesterday. I think I need to add in more snacks, my dinner last night was literally double that of my husband, and the sad part is I still was not full or satisfied.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Will eating like a cup of broth-type soup at lunch with my shake mess me up? Or maybe a small LTO salad with light dressing? Or can I have a broth only snack. Just something to fill my tummy while tricking my brain. My body is onto the water drinking to fill my stomach. It worked the first week but no longer.
I am exercising very hard everyday (or I make up the days I miss), and that has to be a contributor to my increased appetite.
Kathy good for you! It is a great feeling when you don't clean your plate. It is a step in the right direction!!
Cowgirl -- That is really neat, but I only see one photo too. I would love to have a camera on my pc. I can't wait too see your other photo. Thanks for sharing that your appetite has decreased in the past year, I hope mine starts to decrease soon.

Hi Jenni, Lucky Lady Bug, Kathy, Cowgirl, Elaine and Janet, I think I got everyone.
I am new to this thread. I live in London and have 70lbs to lose. I started on Saturday and weigh this saturday coming. I decided to try slimfast as ww points was not working for me. I do find that on slimfast I do feel hungry especially at night, and hope that this will become better. I have one of those popcorn makers where you put in the corn and it is popped by air, it is very low in calories and I put in around 2 tablespoons, which makes lot of popcorn, this did help me last night when I felt particularly hungry
I am finding that getting the motivation to exercise is particially hard. I did walk for 30 minutes today and will try and fit in an aerobics tape later on today.

I am on my third week of Slimfast. I am still having a lot of hunger. I also started a rigorous workout regime about 2 weeks ago, which might explain my new and constant hunger.
I have to force myself to exercise, everyday. But I am getting used to doing it and not letting myself slip, but it is a challenge.
Sounds like you are on the right track! Keep posting, everyone here seems to be serious about losing weight and this is probably one of the most genuinely supportive and encouraging threads I have seen.
The airpopped popcorn for a late night snack is a great idea, I had not thought of that. Thanks!! Now I know what I will snack on tonight.

Welcome Brenda...from a place I would love to visit, I might add.
When you say, Brenda & Jenny, that you eat at night is it hunger or boredom? For me it is mostly boredom.
I also hear this voice in my head reminding me I didn't eat all the food groups they say we are suppose to. Things do get in your head even when you think you are not listening. I don't believe it is that crucial to eat everything everyday. Now, saying that I must tell you I take a ton of vitamins every morning so I guess I don't worry about getting my daily vitamins and minerals from food. If I listen to my body, I eat rather poorly BUT at my weight I can afford too :lol: :lol:
Okay, back to the voice...when I listen to that tape in my head I over eat....If I talk to myself about what I want to eat I eat much less but sometimes not the best "type" of food. Example: For dinner last night I had 3 slices of cheese and about 8 or 9 Doritos. I felt like cheese and salt. WHY am I worrying about this :eek: I certainly didn't eat healthy to get this fat!!!!!:devil:

Ladybug -- I eat out of Boredom at night and plus I guess I associate watching TV at night with snacking. I always do this. If I am not watching TV at night then I don't snack.
But I did do better last night.
I am bad about eating dry cereals, harmless right? Wrong. I can open a new box and begin snacking and look down 10-15 minutes later and I have eaten 1/2 the box.
I stopped buying cereals but then my DH got in the mood several weeks ago and bought 3 boxes. I have already eaten 1-1/2 of the boxes.
I didn't snack on popcorn as planned last night instead I ate dry cereal and after a couple minutes I made myself put it away. That is one of my biggest demons. I have two boxes of frosted mini wheats in my drawer at work!!!
Well I did eat the cereal for my first snack, and NO MORE today for me. But will have some popcorn as my lunch and #2 snack today.
Well gotta go, I have a final tonight I am cramming for!!

Thinking about it I do eat mainly out of boredom, I am so used to snacking on something when watching the tv late a night that it has become a bad habit - something which I am trying my best to overcome.
I have two children aged 9 and 6, and I frequently watch their eating habits, they actually leave food on their plate when they are full up:lol: regardless of what they eating (even Mcdonalds). I need to follow their example and stop eating when I am full, to be quite honest I have actually experienced hunger for the first time since starting this diet which is not a bad thing, I tended to snack and nibble all day with out experiencing it.
I have had a good day today, did some more exercise and drank more water.
Looking forward to weigh day on Sunday

Well for me that is an easy question.
At home my husband and I watch all of HIS Tv shows, including ESPN (practically all the time). So I really don't like anything we watch. If I really want to see somethng I have to go into the bedroom and watch my show in there. If I am in the bedroom I don't eat. If I am home alone watching TV I still snack although not as bad.
So maybe I should start watching all of my old favorites in the bedroom at night and I will not snack. Good idea, thanks for asking that question.
If you are wondering why we watch only my husband's TV shows it is because he grabs the remote as soon as he gets home and holds it until bedtime. It becomes an extension of his body. He flips out and acts crazy if I manage to get the remote away from him. Commercials are like death to him. It is really funny.
Well I am still following the plan, although I have not done great this week. I have been just incredibly hungry. So hopefully next week I will be back on track 100%. Tonight is chinese food night!! We eat it on Fridays as a reward dinner. Although sometimes we do get tired of it and go elsewhere for a couple weeks.
My Menu today:
Shake and popcorn
Shredded wheat or energybar
Maybe fruit or popcorn

LIGHT BULB, LIGHT BULB I just had a light bulb moment while reading your post, Jenni. I get home about 6PM so I don't eat dinner until 6:30 or 7PM. At 7PM I sit down to eat dinner and watch TV - once I start I just keep eating if I continue to watch TV. I really should have realized this before...
I did eat at 7PM last night but had tomatos from my own plants with cottage cheese. I ate three tomatos and was very full after that so I quit. Maybe I can go on the tomato/cottage cheese diet!!!! Anyway, my point is I did quit. A couple times I thought about getting some chips but asked myself if I was really hungry and the answer was no, so I didn't get them.
Since I moved a couple months ago I spend much less time in front of the TV so hopefully that will help in my weight loss also.

Well today was weigh day and after my first week I lost 2lbs, :?: not sure how I feel, as I thought I would have lost more, I thought I did ok. Anyway I suppose 2lbs off is better than 2lbs on. I will try to do a bit more exercise this week.
Lucky ladybug - I tend to exercise first thing in the morning as soon as I wake up, I do an exercise tape which lasts around 30 minutes. I am a compulsive eater so what I also try to do is when I feel the urge to eat, I exercise instead, I have also found that it is quite good for taking care of any feelings of anger that I may have if someone has upset me etc.

Ladybug -- We eat dinner in front of the TV too. I broke our dining room table so now we eat at the coffee table. I need to push eating outside on our patio set right now, while we still can.
I had a hard day Sunday. I must have walked into the kitchen looked in the fridge and then the cabinets 20-30 times. Each time saying am I bored (it was raining here really hard) or am I really hungry? Sometimes I walked away, others I got a drink, and finally I started dinner.
I didn't drink any slimfast this weekend. That is probably why I was so badly wanting to eat.
I did great on Saturday, though, with eating and exercise.
I am eating my daily energy bar as my am snack with my breakfast shake. I need the boost. Plus I saw a Butterfinger commercial this morning and the peanut butter energy bar is a diet Butterfinger and it has satisfied my craving. I have meetings from 9:30am - 12 noon and I don't have time to eat or drink during these meetings.
Well I will check back later. I need to do a few things before my meetings start.

Jenni, aren't those peanut butter energy bars great... I only get one box at a time - a whole box at one time would NOT be good. So if I keep the quantity I have in the cupboard at a minimum it helps keep me from binging on them. Which I think I could do at times. :o
I still haven't done any exercising - kick me.... I did rake and pull weeds for 1 1/2 hours after work tonight so I didn't just sit on my butt either BUT I still need to start a daily exercise program.
Maybe my brother will let me walk his dog.

I just found out that I passed my Economics final getting a "B" overall I am so relieved:smug: :cool:
I think that elevated my mood today by about 25%. :D And with next Monday being a holiday I am even happier so add in another 10% of elevated mood. :D
I ate 2 snack bars yesterday, shame shame, so I get none today. I have to learn only one a day. They may be diet but they still have sugar, calories, and fat.
Ladybug, pulling weeds is not sitting on your butt, I am sure you were burning double the calories than what sitting on your couch would have burned. It is really hard to exercise some days.
I ran 6 miles yesterday and it was so hard, because I did not want to do it at all. I actually packed up to go home and then questioned myself. like... "What are you going to do at home, besides eat and watch Tv?". I kept saying oh I will get on my treadmill at home and do my miles. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA funny joke. I have said that so many times that it is funny now. So I made myself get dressed and do it. I had to stop a lot to catch my breath but I still did it. Hopefully today won't be so hard.
I can't understand how some people like to workout. I have always hated it, but did it to stay fit. I know people that can't wait to run or go to the gym. Maybe, I am just really lazy.
I want to get thin enough that I can wear a bathingsuit without total humiliation, so I can swim once it starts to get too cold to run outside. Maybe if I stick with it long enough I will learn to like it, who knows.
Well Today my Menu is:
Lunch: shake and carrots with light ranch dip
Dinner: healthy choice meal
Sn3: either popcorn or fruit
Gotta get going!!

It rained hard here yesterday so I did not get to run :(
But it is nice out today.
I wanted to post quickly and say that my shake this morning has actually made me feel full. Yeah!
Hopefully this will mean that I won't feel as hungry all the time.

i started on a shake plan today. i dont want to tie myself down so some days i will eat a little food& some days i will fast with the shakes like i did today. not sure about tomorrow, but hoping to do a 48 hr fast this weekend. good luck to all!

Hi everyone. It's been a while I've been extreamly busy, but I wanted to share. I went to my doctor today, for something totally different then weight, and discovered that since I was there last, about 5weeks ago. I was down 6.5lbs. It was the first time in years that I returned to the doctors less than a prior visit. I was overjoyed. Thanks for letting me rant. It might not seem like it's working, but it is. It kinda sneaks up on ya. Good luck everyone.
