View Full Version : I Moved My Keister! 5/29 - 6/4

Some of us struggle more with food, others with exercise. I fall into the latter group, so in the past I have found it helpful to log my exercise here for the accountability thang, for the motivational thang, and for the mutual support thang!

If any of you want to join in with your :woops: , :strong: , :belly: , :lifter: , :yoga: , :ebike: , :wl: , :boxing: , :bike2: , :running: , :tread: , :lifter: , or even your :sumo: ----- then sing it proud here!!
Whatever you're doing, to whatever degree, and no matter how often -- everyone's welcome.

My goal for the week is to bike for 360 minutes. It's a little ambitious for me at this point because my stamina still isn't where it used to be and my new job is more physical than it's been in years -- but I think that an overall goal of 360 minutes, broken up into multiple sessions, is achievable. The key will be to get 30-40 minutes out of the way first thing in the morning. Then I can finish up my day with another 20 minutes after work or dinner. That seems doable, right?

Hi Sarah! :dancer: I just got home from moving my Keister around and around in laps at the local softball field for 38 minutes. I run 12 minute miles, so that was about 3 miles, plus some extra time to make up for the occasions in which my beloved black lab decided to stand right in my path causing me to stumble and careen around her.

Hi guys! Wow, another week already?

I went on a 2 mile walk earlier this afternoon. I'm getting a bit bored and restless, which can easily slip into Mega Monster Munchie Madness, so I am going to go for another mile and maybe just sit for a while and watch the tide come in, or go out, or whatever it's decided it wants to do.

Hope everyone had a rippin' holiday. Hang ten, keep the toes to the nose, and... uh... watch out for the gnarly heavies or some such.

Hmm... The Gnarly Heavies... the best name for a support group ever, or is it just me?

Tomorrow (Tuesday) I will run 2.5 miles
Wednesday I have TKD.
Thursday I will run 3.5 miles
Friday I will take off from all exercise as the Race for the Cure is Saturday, June 3 :D

And Sunday is another day off.

On Monday, which was a few hours ago, I completed my exercise . . . while drunk. Do you think all the stumbling increased the calories burned in my cardio? I should hope so. Needless to say, the eating plan went to ****, but luckily this isn't the thread for that.

I shouldn't've had any alcohol, but the frustration at the scale's insistence on going up (despite my daily 90 minutes cardio, 20 minutes weight training and 30 minutes of yoga) drove me to say "screw it" for the day. Oh well. Tomorrow (today) is a new day.

This week, I want to do about 250mins of moving.

Don't know if this is going to be feasable with temps between 102f without humidex and 115f with humidex...:hot: :hot: :hot:

I did about 40mins yesterday and when I got home I thought I was going to pass out. I was so hot DH had to wrap me in a wet towel. I think I might not have drank enough water...* thinking about that, got to get some more*.

Anyway, at lunch , I'll be going down and up the stairs for about 30-40mins. It should be interesting since I work on the 11th floor...:dizzy:

So far doing ok -

Monday I got up early, despite it being a day off, and went to the gym, did an hour hard cardio including running, and did a turn on the rower and the bottom busting cardio wave.

Today, Tuesday was going to be a non exercise day as I can't get to the gym, due to an early start and work and I am going to the football tonight :hyper:

But......and this is really scary, I got up at 4.45, threw on my running kit, and hit the tarmac for 5am and ran/walked an hour!

I'm walking to the football ground tonight which must be a mile and a bit!

Well, I just proved to myself that the last 7 years of the easy life here in central California has completely turned me into the biggest temperature wimp there ever was.

I walked to the gym (400 bonus cals burned!), but the entire way I felt so whiny about the heat. When I got there I had to drink a bunch of water before beginning (30 min cardio, 45 min arms/chest/back/stomach). Then, whinned even more on the way home! I kept thinking to myself that I didn't know what I was going to do when real summer hits.

When I got home, I looked up the temp in town....

It was only 71 degrees.:o

Everyone here in the "real heat", please know that you have my deepest, deepest sympathies!:( When we move away from Fantasy Land, I have a feeling I'm going to pay a very big price.

Alrighty! So much for getting up early and doing 40 minutes this morning! I most ashamedly admit that the bed (and all of its members, both 4- and 2-legged) felt just too, too good this morning......so the exercise bike did not have the pleasure of my use this morning. I DID get in a half hour after work, so at least there's that. I will say that now that I'm out of an office and on a sales floor, I'm walking and standing about 7-8 hours more than I was, so that's an improvement. (An improvement to which I'm currently adjusting, actually. :faint: :o )

Tonight I'm going to bed earlier than midnight. I just remembered today that after the chemo I felt like a completely different person when I got 8 hours sleep compared to when I didn't. Um....duh. :rollpin:

Eats are still great, I'm happy to report.

Great job, you guys! Even inebriated, you're getting the job done! ;) Pretty impressive, Helena. :D

I'm happy to report that I did get in my "stairs" at lunch , just not as long as whished in one session.

I ended up doing about 20mins and then had to stop, I started swelling up like crazy. I don't know what happen, I drank more than the recommended 8 glasses of water ( I had about 6 down by the time I started my exercise), so it can't be that I didn't drink enough.

I'll will try to do as much as I can again today ( especialy since I'm stuck in a conference for the next 2 days):(

I just finished my 1 mile WATP. :) I feel good! :)

05-31-2006, 09:48 PM
I walked to the gym again, then cardio and weights. The walk just about whiped me out...so seepy...

Hope everyone had a great day today! I go naptime now...

I have some....miracle of miracles!!!!!

Yesterday I played in the pool where my Mom is staying till she gets her new house. The kids and I played fairly vigorously (somersaults, diving for a rock handstands some actual lap swimming) for two hours!!

Fitday estimated it at 600 and something calories burned...does that sound reasonable??

And today I mowed the lawn for 55 minutes (fitday said 200 something).....nothing makes me sweat like mowing my darn jungle!!!!!

Sarah..if you're out there...could you run those numbers in your diet-power software and see what it says? I know fitday isn't too accurate!

05-31-2006, 11:54 PM
I did 34 minutes on the treadmill while watching my favorite basketball team win - Go Pistons!!!!!!

I have strength training scheduled for tomorrow.

Sarah..if you're out there...could you run those numbers in your diet-power software and see what it says? I know fitday isn't too accurate!

Sorry I'm late! :) Ok, well, in typical Diet Power fashion, the caloric output levels are listed for like every type of mower -- the range goes from 255 kcal for "mowing, walking behind self-propelled mower" (uhhh, thinking this isn't the one) to 554 kcal for "mowing, pushing hand mower." "Mowing, pushing power mower, larger model or faster walking" and "mowing, average" both come in at 481 kcal, so maybe that's the one? Keep in mind that these caloric burns are for my weight, not yours, so you'll have to shave off a bit for the difference of 27 pounds. But I'm taller, so maybe it comes out in the wash? :dizzy: Well this is a bit too much for my addled brain at this hour! I say you go with the 481 and be done with it -- you're not counting all the other daily activities so if there's a little cushion in there, so be it. God wants you to be happy! (That's what I tell myself, anyway! )

Speaking of God wanting me to be happy -- I'm pretty freaked out about my follow-up oncologist appointment tomorrow -- so if you guys could happen to find a free moment to say a prayer or think happy thoughts for me, I'd appreciate it. :^: This is a first meeting with an oncologist down here in Atlanta; he's got all of my records, so he knows I've got an active lymph node that's appeared twice on PET scans and once on a CT scan, beginning in November and continuing through February. Ok, I'm blathering now, and giving wayyyyy too much boring information. (Like Jen/andoreth, I'm vewy, vewy "seepy." :tired: ) Just send good vibes because I'm fairly frantic. :stress:

Exercise: 40 minutes biking. (And about 5 hours of walking and 2 hours of standing.)

G'night Gracie! ;)

06-01-2006, 01:42 AM
Sarah, I've never been much of a pray-er, and I never pray for myself, but I'll pray for you tonight. Maybe such a rare thing as a prayer from me will make God notice?;)

Really, though, I will pray, and I'll be thinking about you all day tomorrow!

*******:goodvibes:GOOD VIBES going out to Sarah!:goodvibes:********

Tuesday: Scheduled run completed in 30 minutes (but it was 2.1 miles instead of 2.5 miles That is about a 15 minute mile. :p Want to ge back up to the 12 minute miles I was doing last fall)

Wednesday: 1 hour TKD class

There is a change in plans for my week as I will not be able to run the 5K this weekend. Instead I will be attending my usual AM stability ball class followed by an extra pre-test TKD class. Our test is one week away and our instructors want us all to have extra practice so we can work on our form and technique.
I will have to find a new race for June though! My plan is to run a 5k each month this summer. July is lined up and it looks like I may run 2 in August as there is a trail run at a resort 5 miles from my house. Sounds like alot of fun!

**Update**:running:Searched around on the internet for a while and found a new 5K for June. :D June 24 at the Badger State Games!
And to make it even cooler, they even have Martial Arts competition on June 25! Will have to see if my instructors will OK participation as it isn't specifically TKD but a general martial art competition. I am just soooo excited and would love love love to go!(Especially as it would not involve a 6 hour drive like the tournaments I've done so far. They were all in western Minnesota.) Don't know if I would do sparring but weapons and forms would be alot of fun. Have I mentioned how excited I am???????!!!!!!!!!?????:carrot::hyper:

 Praying, Sarah

And thank you for the info...that sounds about right ;)

:grouphug: I am sending good vibes your way Sarah! :grouphug:

By the way I am down for the count this week as far as exercise goes. I am dealing with a new bought of tonsilitis. I am trying to think positive and figure if I kick it now I won't be sick for Vegas. I also am going to try to get to the gym on Saturday morning for a lifting session. Wish me luck hopefully the doc will give me more meds tomorrow and I will be on my way to getting over this mess.

06-01-2006, 12:21 PM
I moved my keister for the 2nd day in a row!!!! I did my 1 mile WATP this morning!

06-01-2006, 12:31 PM
Sarah - warm fuzzies coming from me too.

06-01-2006, 12:35 PM
Thinking about you Sarah!!

06-03-2006, 12:22 AM
Thanks you guys!! :goodvibes I'm going to have to update tomorrow night, but it went ok, overall. He wants me to get new scans ASAP, so he can see what's going on now. I'll give more detail next time I post. I do want to thank you for your kindness. :thanks:

As for exercise, I got in 60 minutes of biking each, yesterday and today. I'm getting there! I have to work 10 1/2 hours tomorrow and 8 on Sunday, so I have my work cut out for me reaching my goal.

How did you guys do today?

(Dolly, sorry you're sick! :( )

06-03-2006, 12:46 AM
Sarah: I'm glad everything is going okay. :) I was going to post my exercise yesterday, but, well this is weird, but I was overcome by a odd superstitious feeling that I didn't want to be the one to stop "holding my breath" and post. I don't know, does that make sense? Maybe the extra exercise I've been doing this week is finally causing delirium.

Linda: I do want to give you a big WELL DONE for the exercise you got in! :D Sorry it's a bit late. :( You are a ray of sunshine here, and seeing you so excited for yourself really made me smile!

Laura: Way to go! I officially nominate you for this forum's official "Butt Kicking Machine"! :)

Everyone: Great to see you up and at 'em. Let's show those fat cells whose boss!

Now, for me: I'm still alone, and obviously I'm starting to get a bit desperate for communication! :p Gym both yesterday and today, and I walked both times. I'm feeling fit, but also very run down (does that make sense?), and I'm really looking forward to my rest day tomorrow! (And picking up SO on Sunday!!!)

I hope everyone is fine!
