I finally woke up at a decent hour although Hershey slept downstairs again last night.

Today I need to finish the digging and potting of plants for the Church Sale tomorrow. (I am not going to bake as I just don't have time.) I hate to be a weather whiner but this is getting ridiculous! Today and the whole weekend is going to be cold and rainy with the temps even dipping to close to freezing Sunday night! The good news is that the lilacs and late tulips are lasting well in the cool weather! Looking back in my journals I note that we had snow on May 19 in 1989 so I'll stop whinging!

It's so nice to see soo many chicks posting on the daily thread. I wish I had time to respond to everyone but do read all the posts. We are building quite a supportive community here, aren't we. :grouphug: :cofdate:

Whoops! Reminder just popped up that Candice comes to clean. Time to do a major tidying.

05-19-2006, 07:34 AM
rofl: Ruth, you are a riot! 5:47 is NOT a decent hour! And yes, you'd better get your house clean before Candice comes to clean! :dizzy:
We've had cool, rainy weather here all week, too, and it's starting to wear on my nerves.
For today, I'm going to Audrey's school play at 10, then bringing both girls to spend the rest of the day at my house. Their grandmother is having double-knee replacement surgery today, so Cindy is going to be at the hospital with her all day. If it dries up enough, they can play in the yard while I get more planting done, but if it's rainy we just might go to a matinee.
Tomorrow my DS's neighborhood is having their annual yardsale, so Jake and I are taking a lot of our "junk" over there to see if we can sell it. It's supposed to be dry, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Morning Chicks! I am soooo glad it's Friday!

I'm in a good mood because I just scored a $50 gift certificate to a spa for $25 through a promotion that a local radio station does. Cool beans :carrot:
We've got a party to go to tomorrow that I'm planning to go off plan for (does that make sense?) but other than that, it should be a good OP weekend. DH is throwing the party for a friend that's getting married so he won't be available to help with the littles, but hopefully I'll still be able to get some stuff done around the house.

Ruth - tidying up before the cleaner comes to clean? I'm with Cottage on this one :dizzy: When does Lucy come home? and where are the puppy pics? I hope your cold is on the way out.
Cottage - Can you move to NY and watch my kids? J/K It sounds like you do so many fun things with them. I hope you get a chance to get outside and plant - on the other hand, a movie would be a nice way to spend the day too.

Good Morning Girls

Jee whiz,, Slow Thread today...Still Raining and blah her in Central West Virginia. I am sick, sick, sick of it! My knee has hurt constantly.. arthritis and the rain dont help, I have barely been outside and the yard needs mowed....
I am gonna start PMing some of you chicks,, Seems as though when I ask one of you a specific I cant get a response.. I am thinking that is the only way to get an answer.. or something.

05-19-2006, 10:19 AM
Cottage and Kelly, my house is TIDY now and Candice is CLEANING! There is no way she can put my stuff away and doing it certainly allows her to clean faster and better.

Mrs Crockett, I really love your new avatar. Your weightloss really shows! I don't know what specific questions you asked but sometimes PMs are best unless you think the answer would benefit the whole group.

Cottage, sounds like you have a fun day planned with the girls although I'm sure you are concerned about your Mother. Double knee surgery? Oh my! I guess getting around will be pretty darn hard.

Kelly, planning to go off program? I'm sure you'll make the best choices possible. I know I'll be off plan for dinners this weekend too!

It's not raining - yet - so Hersh and I are going outside to dig some more plants.

I hope to have my camera back in working order by this afternoon and get lots more puppy pics as the pups are three weeks old today. In the meantime, here's a preview. Their eyes have been open for well over a week and they are exploring their new world. We just moved them from the whelping room into the puppy room. Next week they graduate to upstairs in the kitchen for lots of socialization. Then they get their shots and chips and we start allowing non-family visitors and prospective buyers. Enjoy!

05-19-2006, 10:27 AM
thats what I was thinking Ruth, about the PMing,, Everybody is different.....Thank you for complimenting me and my New pics.. I know I still have a long ways to go before Maintenance, but I am very happy with the results so far.

Hi early birdies ... I FINALLy managed to drag myself out of bed at 6:50 a.m. (I'm supposed to be up at 6:20, earlier if I want to walk to the train). I successfully ignored five different alarms -- two presets, one cell phone and two snooze alarms. Can you tell I have major morning issues?

It was raining, pouring down buckets, again today! New England really can't take any more of this! :( Make with the sun, already!

Weight is cooperating very nicely and I'm eating a lot! We'll see how I fare over the weekend, at my parents' house a.k.a. Bad Food City.

Does anyone eat Smarter Carb biscotti? My dad, who's been on a low-sodium diet for over two years, is addicted and I'm starting to like them, too. They are made of soy flour, cashews, sugar-free chocolate chips and maltitol (doesn't bother me, but I know the -ols can often be troublesome). They're yummy and really satisfy that "cookie" craving. I can't really find any downside to them for me, but didn't know if other chicks had run into any.

Have a good day, everyone!

05-19-2006, 10:32 AM
Good morning, ladies! Ruth - The puppies sound so cute. We've got lots of kittens at the shelter right now. come to think of it, we never got over to the dog area on Sunday. There might be puppies now too! I'll have to check on Sunday.

cottage - You might want to bring some tarps to put stuff on to keep it off the damp ground at the garage sale. Then if it rains you can just fold the tarps over to protect things. That's what we did when we got a ten minute shower in the middle of our cub scout garage sale a few weeks ago.

Kelly - When I throw a party, I like to separate the stuff that I can eat as much as I want (like fruit and veggies and other OP things) from the tempting off plan stuff. Then I start the party by picking out the one off plan thing I really want and slowly enjoying it. Then I stay as far away from that area as I can so I'm not tempted again. Just a suggestion. And eat a good meal beforehand so you aren't hungry.

MsCrockett - I hope I didn't miss your question. I try really hard to at least read every post but there are some days that work keeps me from posting as much as I'd like. And I agree with Ruth, your new avatar is great!

Me - The PTA meeting didn't take very long last night so Brian and I got out to ride bikes for 45 minutes. We're trying to find a one mile stretch that he can ride without having to stop. We found .8 of a mile but there were just too many streets crossing the bike path. We have more time today so we are heading to the nature trail. I'll pretty sure we can easily get a mile there but the visibility isn't as good and he'll have to make sure he doesn't run anyone over. He needs to ride one mile as fast as he can and then show improvement over a 30 day period for a Webelos activity pin. And I get to ride and time him so I get exercise too!

Last night's dinner was gumbo out of the SB cookbook. Yummy! I used up the last of last summer's frozen okra. Our okra plants are just starting to produce pods so I can get the freezer restocked. I like to slice it and freeze it in Ziplock bags so it is ready for gumbo.

05-19-2006, 10:43 AM
Good Morning All -

Ruth - The puppies are too cute! Thanks for posting the pic

Things are going well. I don't have much planned for this weekend (it's DBF that's busy all weekend!) I have to work tomorrow, but I'm planning some me time too...I'm getting my haircut, my eyebrows waxed (maybe TMI for some...sorry), and going shopping for some new clothes for my vacation next week (6 days and counting :)), and I need to get to the library to find a book for the plane ride.

I must confess I was a little O(ff)P last night. I made Hoppin' John (black eyed peas and rice) and couldn't resist making with with real bacon and cornbread on the side (I did use brown rice, though). I need to figure out how to make it totally OP (maybe turkey bacon or liquid smoke for flavor), because it was very filling and yummy!

Well, I've got to run...there's work that needs to be done. I'll check back in later.

Have a good day everyone

Hi Everyone.

I'm not new to reading all your posts, as I've been doing so (as well as on the SBD) for 6 weeks now, but in the past couple days I've decided to stop being shy and post, so HELLO! :)

I feel like I know some of you already and enjoy reading about your daily antics. I just read the post from Soon2b about going on vacation, and it makes me want to go somewhere warm too. I am going to sunny Florida over the 4th of July, and that is really keeping me OP, but I am ready for it to be here and to be thinner!! Any way to fast forward time? LOL

Anyhoo, just wanted to say hey to all your chickies out there.

05-19-2006, 12:10 PM
'Morning all. Sure would love to trade places with all you "cold & rainy" folks. It's already in the 80's here at 8am & going up to 104 for the umpteenth day in a row already. And rain?? - I'm not sure I remember what that is. :p

Mscrockett - wow what a diff in your pictures. I sure hope I do as well as you have done. I sure know what you mean about 2 sets of boobs. Got that problem myself.

Ruth - cleaning before the cleaning lady's something I remember my mom doing 50 or so years ago. I would do it too, if I had one.

Good luck to all of you eating away from home this weekend. I haven't had to do that yet, and frankly it scares me. Did any of you have to eat in a restaurant or at someone else's house while on P1? I think it would be a lot easier to do once you get to P2. I need to get over being scared because I'm going on a cruise to alaska (leave june 16) with my 10 yo granddaughter. Altho, I usually do better eating-wise when I travel. Don't know why.

Hope everyone has a lovely day.

05-19-2006, 12:11 PM
morning ladies!!

just wanted to pop in so that I'm not forgotten, I usually don't get on til the evening when there's 3 pages of posts...

looking forward to a relaxing weekend with the family and hopefully a trip to the strawberry farm-yum!!

I love the puppy pic Ruth!!
And agree that you are looking good Ms Crockett!!

oh came across a yummy recipe the other night-taco meatballs, basically just make meatballs with taco seasoing mixed in(no bread crumbs either), wrap the meat mix around a piece of cheddar and bake. Very tasty!! Don't eat too many though...

05-19-2006, 12:30 PM
Happy Friday everyone! I hope all of you are doing great. It is a gorgeous day in Central FL, sunny and not too hot. I'm going to enjoy this spring-like weather while it lasts.

This weekend DH and I are taking my parents out for their birthdays, which were this week. We're going to the Cheesecake Factory. Oy. I am fully expecting that I will veer off program but I am going to try and make reasonably sensible choices while I'm there!

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

05-19-2006, 12:37 PM
Ruthie, my favorite whinger ever, I'm with you! It's pouring here and I've had about enough! :p It better be nice tomorrow or I'll be in a heap o' trouble! I have planting to do!!!!! :stressed: I'm glad that you are staying away from baking. Less temptation, more money for the sale (plants vs. baked goods) and you get time in the garden and exercise. Sounds like a win, win, win situation to me! :D BTW, I was just listening to an interview with David Sedaris (love that man...) before he became famous, back when he was cleaning houses during the day and writing at night. He said he loved to clean really messy houses. If they were mostly clean to begin with, he felt like he hadn't accomplished much and had much less job satisfaction. So.... I think you should make sure Candace has lots of job satisfaction! ;) I LOVE  the puppy pic!!! What cuties Lucy has! Keep 'em coming!

Cottage, yay for school plays (break a leg, Audry!), yardsales (good luck getting rid of stuff and making a buck or two!), and lots of prayers for your daughter's grandma's knee surgery.

Kelly J, :bravo: on the spa cert...that's awesome!!! :D Going off plan for an event makes total sense. Can you share how you're handling it (P1 first, P1 after, etc.) for the benefit of new chickies? Have fun!

MsC, sorry that you feel like your questions aren't getting answered. Some chicks don't check the daily again after they post. PMs can work, but if you have a question you think everyone might benefit from, just start a new thread and ask your question! That way you get advice from more than one person and we can all learn from the info. :D  and hopes that we all see some :sunny: soon, darn it! :tantrum:

Sunlit, the biscotti sounds awesome...I can't have malitol, though. :( The only thing that might be an issue is that some women find soy products can mess with their estrogen, especially after menopause. Just watch to make sure if you're one of them. :)

Barb, you're killing me with your amazing garden and having produce already! We don't even have plants and seeds in the ground yet! :faint:

Darn...I have to stop there...wish I could write to everyone, but I have some stuff to get to. :( :grouphug: to everyone who's posted and yet to post!

Went to the plastic surgeon this morning. That was encouraging...he doesn't think there's anything wrong with the scar...that it's healing on it's own. He says I don't need to put anything on it and that nothing really helps the'll just do fine on it's own. He says we can reevaluate it in 6 months and see how it's doing. He thinks the fat might regrow (darn!).

I tutor my literacy student today, then plan on doing some work in my weddinng scrapbook. I started organizing my crafty room into some semblance of order a couple weeks ago after three years of DH and I throwing (literally! :o ) my stuff in there and shutting the door. :yikes: Yesterday I organized most of my scrapping stuff and today I'm ready to start scrappin'! :dancer: So much fun!

Tonight I have group therapy. It can be really helpful...but sometimes lengthy. We'll see what this one works out to be. ;)

Have a great day, chickies! Please no more rain.... :rain: We all need to see the sun! :crossed:

05-19-2006, 12:45 PM
Hi everyone! Hope you don't mind if I just jump in here. I started SB today. I'm doing phase 1 but eating larger portions than the book outlines because I'm breastfeeding. So far, so good.... HA! I'm a whole 11 hours into it. Good thing is, this morning when I was making turkey roll-ups for snack, my daughter wanted one too and actually ate the better part of the dark green lettuce. :) Big event for a finicky three-year-old!

05-19-2006, 12:47 PM
This weekend DH and I are taking my parents out for their birthdays, which were this week. We're going to the Cheesecake Factory. Oy. I am fully expecting that I will veer off program but I am going to try and make reasonably sensible choices while I'm there!

Cheesecake is one of my all-time favorite restaurants! They have tons of things that are on plan...especially helpful that they have sourdough bread, which we can have in moderation. Their salads are awesome. And best of all, they have a low carb cheesecake, which they will top with fresh strawberries, tossed with splenda, and whipped cream made with splenda! :cloud9: Obviously with the fat in the cheesecake and God-knows-what in the crust, it's not a daily indulgence, but it's really quite good and helpful to keep you out of the things that will really send you into a tailspin! ;)

Enjoy!

05-19-2006, 01:02 PM
BTW, I was just listening to an interview with David Sedaris (love that man...)

Laurie, I LOVE David Sedaris' work. I don't usually do books-on-tape, but I listen to his because I love to hear humorists read their own work. I download them to my iPod. However, I tend to listen to them on the train or at the gym, so I get a lot of funny looks when I can't stop laughing or fall off the elliptical.

05-19-2006, 03:05 PM
Thanks for the suggestions beachgal! I have tried the six-carb cheesecake, and it is really pretty good. Definitely not something for everyday, but OK when I'm celebrating something important, like oh...let's say a family birthday. LOL. I will definitely enjoy myself!

Hi everyone. I'm late getting here. Today has been very busy at work. This is the first chance I've had to get on the net.
I noticed a change today. My morning was great. Less stressful, more upbeat. I can't hep but think this new WOE is the reason 'cause nothing else has changed. I think it is helping me feel good, although I didn't think I felt bad before...

The morning was great. I had energy and felt good but just before lunch I took a dive. I just started feeling bad. I don't know if I had a drop in sugar or what. I had breakfast of eggs and canadian bacon(my usual) around 9. This happened about 11:30. So I went ahead and started my lunch which was a Phase I SBD prepared meal with a cucumber and cheese salad. But even after eating that I still felt bad, so I got a spoon of no sugar added peanut butter. That helped and I'm feeling better again. Wonder what could have caused it?

Anyway, we ended up at a Mexican resaurant last night. I did so good:carrot: , I didn't touch the chips, and really didn't crave them. I had a steak fajita salad and didn't eat the shell. It wasn't the best but it was fine.

Tonight I'm cooking the almond crusted chicken except I'm using peacans instead. I'll have that with some green beans and a salad. Will probably make some potatos for DH and kids. They requested potatos.

I do have a question though... I'm not eating dairy. I don't like fat free or 1%milk or ff unflavored yogart. I do a little part skim cheese but that's it. Don't you think I need more dairy? How else can I get it? I thought about making chocolate milk with ff milk and sugar free syrup. What do you think? I'm also not too keen on cottage cheese by itself. I've always eaten it with peaches or some other fruit. Any suggestion while I'm on P1?

I've got a lot planned for the weekend. We will go racing Sat night and out on the boat all day Sunday. In between working Sat morning and the other stuff I've got to get my house in order and plant all the flowers I bought last night.:dizzy:

I haven't had a chance to read the other posts but will try to do that now.... if I can stay off the phone with customers...

05-19-2006, 03:47 PM
I mix crystla lite with my ff plain yogurt. ALso I noticed t hat one serving of dannon light n' fit flavored yougurt has less carbs/sugar than plain ff yogurt. (though I'm still unsure of what is allowed in the yogurt category)

05-19-2006, 03:54 PM
morning ladies!! just wanted to pop in so that I'm not forgotten

As if! ;) Who could forget your Wiggles avatar line? I love always cracks me up! :lol3:

Bat, speaking of avatars, you look amazing!!! :flame: Good for you!

05-19-2006, 04:06 PM
I tend to listen to them on the train or at the gym, so I get a lot of funny looks when I can't stop laughing or fall off the elliptical.

:lol3: That's great, Sun! I first listened to his work on CD. I found that when I read his books I don't laugh nearly as much. I'm not sure why! In his last book (corduroy and denim) I only laughed uproariously at the two pieces that I heard him read on NPR once. Isn't that odd? :?: I do adore his work, though. He's wonderful!!!

Hotmama, you definitely need more dairy. Try adding low fat cheese to salads or on other things (like the taco bake or Chicken Divan). If you're in P2, you can do tons of things...make smoothies with frozen fruit and yogurt, add fruit to your cottage cheese (though I wonder if you would enjoy grape tomatoes too...they are actually fruit...though we consider them a vegetable), etc. For milk, why not try making chai tea? Two ways:

1. Get DaVinci's SF Chai syrup. Heat a cup of milk in the micro, then add syrup to taste. Mmmmmm......

2. Get Tazo Tea's Decaf Chai Tea BAGS (you don't want syrup...all of theirs has sugar). Fill a cup halfway with water and heat in micro. Then put in the teabag and let it steep for a while until very dark. Remove the teabag and add milk and splenda to taste (you may want to reheat it at this point). You could also use a SF syrup in place of the splenda; vanilla is really good! :T
Try making hot chocolate (this recipe is adapted from the one on the side of the Hershey's Cocoa box):

1. Measure out 1 to 1.5 cups of milk in a glass pitcher (pyrex works great), depending on what will fit in your mug. Heat in the microwave until very hot (it takes me 4 mins).

2. While that is cooking add 1 Tbsp. and 2 tsp. of cocoa (the kind with no sugar...this is the baking cocoa stuff) to your mug. Then add 3 Tbsp. of SF syrup, flavor of your choice (I LOVE Toasted Marshmallow or Kahlua). Tip in a tiny bit of salt and stir until a thick mixture forms. You want it to be all wet, so mash down any clumps of cocoa until they get combined with the syrup. This takes only about a half a minute...and you can do it while talking, watching TV, etc.

3. When the milk is ready, pour it into the mug and stir vigorously. The cocoa will make it's own froth on top and it will taste divine! :T If you want, you can add a dash of vanilla extract (in P2) to it for flavor. You can modify this to your's what works for me. I make a cup every night, even in P1.

Hope you can get more dairy in!

05-19-2006, 04:19 PM
you're awesome Laurie!!

I'm checking back in before I leave work. I'm not sure how much time I'll have to get online this weekend.

About planning to go off-plan LOL: I've been doing P1 pretty much all week with the exception of a glass of wine last night (Much Needed LOL) and a little bit of dark chocolate (also Much Needed). For the party I'll try to eat OP before-hand but we'll be there most of the day so I can bring a few snacks (nut, veggies) but I'll need to eat something else so I'll probably have a hot dog and a little bit of salad. I'll just try to watch portions. I'm bringing lots of water to drink instead of drinking (I'm driving). This is pretty much my plan for the next 3 weekends. We've got this party tomorrow. Next weekend DH is best man in a wedding so we'll have a rehearsal dinner Friday, and the wedding Saturday. Sunday I'm going on a wine tour (Yeah!!). Then the weekend after that we're doing my DD's 4th BDay party. I'm planning on doing P1 during the weeks, then moderately consuming off-plan foods at these events......with the exception of the wine tour - can't say I'm doing anything moderate that day LOL.

Wannabe Hotmamma - Have you ever tried cottage cheese with Splenda & cinnamon? Before SBD I couldn't really stand it but since I've started doing that I have it nearly every day. I usually pair it with some almonds for my breakfast and it is nummy :D I've noticed that the brand matters to me and have been getting Friendship 1% milkfat. The other brands are too glompy for me. For amounts, I usually put 1 pkt Splenda in and cover the top with cinn & mix.

Heather - Welcome :welcome: It looks like we've got kids about the same age. My DD is almost 4 and my DS was born at the end of September. Yeah for your DD eating the lettuce!! That's one thing I have not been able to accomplish with mine :D

05-19-2006, 08:39 PM
wow, busy board today. I've been busy with my mom. Her brother died, then today her dog of 12 years had to have a sonogram and they found something in her tummy. My mom has to decided whether to operate - $3000, or just leave it alone. The dog acts fine. I think we should jst leave her alone. We took her in to the vet because she had a sore on her leg...Of course it makes her cry to think her dog is gong to die. Jeepers! All this stress makes me want to drink.

I'm off plan tonight. I had whole wheat spagetti, 1/2 cup and 1 slice of italian bread. Not bad, I know. Just hope it does cause cravings tomorow. I'm still not down any more, but I do feel good. Have lots of energy until about 8 PM...then I'm ready for bed. That's a complete turn around for me.

Sounds like everyone has their weekend challenges in check. Good luck everyone. Crockett, enjoy that trip. I'm all in for the week.
