The news from here.

* I colored my hair so it is not battle ship gray post-chemo.
* ]It is curly like a poodle... When it's long enough I'm going to frost it back to blonde and reddish.
* DS graduated from IU with a M.Ed last weekend.
* He got engaged!!
* I don't want to be the fat one at the wedding.
* I had chest pains week before last.
* EKG said no heart attack.
* Blood tests say my blood sugar is 105, cholesterols are ***-backwards (good vs. bad).... SO

I didn't go back and read tons... but Hi to all. Has the wedding happened?
Who's gone where...?
The tornadoes in Anna, TX were only about 10 miles from here... but WE didn't even get any rain.

Ha ha! You're so funny, Schatzi! Good thing you're a moderator or you would have gotten busted for spamming the board. Mmm...SPAM. And please tell us all the juicy gossip going on at Peyton Place. Our town is sort of like that, but we're kind of outsiders so I don't get all the dirt. I saw the butcher's wife yesterday and she didn't even aknowledge me. Pffft!

Hi Painty! Wow, lots of stuff going on in your life. Congratulations to the ds - he's moving right along with his life and you're there to see it, which is a GOOD THING! Good about no heart attack too - how scary. I'm always hearing that with women the symptoms are different and there may not even be any pain so hopefully this was just a little glitch in the system.

Peachy - That lady with the big pores sounds terrifying. Nothing agains large pores, but I don't think they'e supposed to be caked up with make-up and I thought powder was a no no for "older skin" because it sets into every crease and crevice. You probably need some of that moisturizing foundation that keeps everything lookin' dewey all day. But what do I know? I'm still getting blemishes at 42. :?:

Did I mention that I'm going to visit my friend from Darmstadt next week? I booked my train ticket on line and they sent it to me yesterday in the mail. It's from the "Fulfillment Center" aka the ticket office. Those Germans are so funny. I can just imagine an old German granny looking at that and thinking "Huh?"

In other news - my sinuses are killing me and I've been spending as much time in bed as possible. Alone. And I have had hearburn every day this week and must go to the pharmacy and get something for it. They have everything behind the counter - you can't just slink in there and buy something for heartburn/athlete's foot/'roids without everyone knowing what's wrong with you. Nice.

Painty, you've been busy both w/ the good and the bad. Congrats on DS's accomplishments and engagement. Sorry to hear you had a medical scare. No fun.

I'm headachy today. I think it's because I've been eating waaaay too much refined sugar stuff. Gotta knock that off.

Schatz, I've been trying to avoid neighbors too - mine are very nice, but when I work in the yard they want to come over and follow me around. Then I feel rude, so I stop what I'm doing and sit and talk, and get nothing done. They're retired so I think they forget that I only have a limited time to get my around the house work done. In fact, this headache started w/ a couple glasses of wine w/ this neighbor---it's all her fault, she twisted my arm. :headache:

I'm going to actually go a do some work now. I'll check back in later for news.

I like the fact that you almost got busted for it.

My second favorite household chore is ironing. My first one being -- hitting my head on the top bunk bed until I faint.
-Erma Bombeck-

Good Old Erma. Freaking System Goddess is gearing up again. And foolishly I have sent replies to people. Sheesh I'm a glutton for punishment.

Kiwi,,,,,,, you have a friend who wrote a book???Is this the guy who used to come over, take off his shirt, and pretend he was fixing your roof??? Good lord NO! You mean the person who ruined our entire house? He was a friend of a friend (the 3-fingered guy) when we hired him, but he squandered that friendship too.

No, the new book is by my friend in NY, eh? Okay, my ex-bf in NY. I don't like to associate his name with that fact in case there are people googling who one would not want to show up here. Anyway, the book is about the humor magazine, g was a founding contributor, edited various parts of the magazine for several years.

My half sister had a book published too :p -- I'd link to that too but good grief I don't want my relatives showing up here reading my thoughts about them either.

That whole favorite book/take it to a desert island thing makes no sense to me. I think the 2 categories only barely overlap. I can only think of one book I like that I would be willing to read over again so often that it would be worth taking. But it's not my very favorite, just among the favorites. It's called And Ladies of the Club. I could re-read it because it's so long... My favorite book ever is probably Time and Again by Jack Finney. Is that too lame -- I can't help it, I am fascinated. Unfortunately I have read it so much I hardly want to read it again. Same with Memoirs of an Invisible Man. Hated both movies.
Kiwi, your trip sounded like a blast. I bet you were just one of the kids. It was fun. I got to be one of the kids sometimes, but let me tell you, chaperoning kids in NY is not for the faint-hearted! I suppose it would have been much easier if each adult had been assigned 3 or 4 kids for the whole time, but the band director is very teen-aware. She knows her students extremely well and spent many hours coming up with ways for them to have the best time they could on this trip. The outcome was that every chaperone had one hotel room they were in charge of, a different group for going out to dinner with, a different group for the broadway show, different for the museum afternoon, different for Saturday sightseeing, different for Sunday sightseeing. It caused a lot of chaos and a more rigid person would never have attempted it. But we managed it, with a few kinks here and there, and never lost a kid, had anything hurt or stolen and I think everyone at least had fun part of the time. Most of the kids had a blast, the setbacks just didn't bother them. There was one girl who became sick in the subway, apparently she hadn't been eating. One girl held up our theater group because she suddenly got confused and thought she was supposed to be with us, but it worked out and we got to Hairspray on time. Hairspray was absolutely hilarious!!! Wonderfully staged, the cast was brilliant. We totally loved it. My next favorite was probably the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I hadn't been there in :chin: ahem, many years. We didn't have to herd the kids around there (there were on their honor not to leave the building or cause any trouble--and they didn't), so I got to wander the Impressionists to my heart's content. Then while looking for the wonderful musical instrument exhibit (DD and DDbf raved about it so I had to go see it), I realized I was missing huge quantities of incredible European masters paintings. I could have spent days there, no problem. You should have heard the kids rave about the Egyptian exhibits. I loved that they appreciated the place. I did have to do the chaperone thing there--one girl hadn't eaten lunch and couldn't find the cafe and ended up by herself, so I had to sit with her while she ate.

The bus rides were actually fun. Most of the adults sat at the front of each bus and we had way too much fun. Very amusing bunch.

Will tell more later. Gotta take a shower and be ready for the trip to Othertown for Open Mic night. DD has been practicing with bf this afternoon. Can't wait to hear what they've come up with this time. :hyper:

So good to hear from you Painty, and congrats to DS on his degree! Way to go!

My little darling is in the Bangor Daily today... They didn't bother to call and update her information so it looks like she can't make up her mind what college to go to. :o

.. sigh, MOMA! I love the Impressionist age.. do tell, who are your favorites??? Didn't go to MOMA, went to the Met -- MMA. I have been to MOMA a couple of times I think--The first time I went there I was a clueless college student and my then-bf's mother lent me her art museum pass and I spent about 2 hours waiting to get in to the Picasso Guernica exhibit. But this time we went to the non-Modern art museum, which also houses plenty of Impressionist work as well. In fact I thoroughly enjoyed their selections. I believe my favorites are Renoir and Cezanne. Some of their portraits are mind-blowing. I took a few pictures, but my favorite paintings didn't come out all that well. I have uploaded a great Van Gogh below.
Who was in Hairspray... Was Harvey Fierstein..playin Divine ???Harvey Fierstein isn't in Hairspray anymore; last I heard he was playing Tevye in Fiddler. The Divine character and her husband totally stole the show. I have to go look up their names. The girl was fabulous too.
When you posted that book , the only thing I thought of was Mad Magazine's Spy v.s. Spy ... sooo what is this book about?

Am I wearin ya out with all these nosyrosy questions???
My dear, I live to answer your questions. Go follow the link I posted before. It was a magazine. Called Spy. The source of "Separated at Birth" and many other amusing features. My friend was responsible for the back page George Bush (Sr.) diary entry. Wouldn't be prudent to go into it further.....

Denver---KIWONK---REMIND ME WHERE YOUR FAV BOSTON RESTAURANT IS AGAIN----I REMEMBER YOU LINKED US TO IT ONCE~~!!!-Giacomo's, darling! There are 2 locations, have only been to the one in the North End. The last time we were there the butternut squash ravioli were disappointing. But the calamari were fabulous, and the lobster ravioli is a good choice too.

Oh yeah, I liked the Seurats as well.

DD and bf were excellent last night. She did 2 guitar/voice numbers, Flying Horses by Dispatch and her own Asymmetrical. Then BF accompanied her on the piano for the rest: a Hebrew piece that they did in NY, which was just soaringly beautiful. Then Music of the Night from Phantom, and Piano Man (no doubt because he's her piano man...:val2: ).

Sugar, you'll have to let me know how that vinegar thing goes. I have read all the raves about it, but I don't if I could ingest it, even with honey. Does it make you smell like, um, sweet n sour? Teri Hatcher was attacked by a light bulb too, she told about it on Letterman. I will catch up with blogginess later.

This is a terrible year for allergies here too. NY was full of pollen. I've been sneezing and tearing for days on end. Fun.

This is a whine post, so scroll if you wish - don't say I didn't warn you---- My parents are back from Arizona for the summer. They've been back a week. They live 15 minutes away. They haven't bothered to go visit Kayden. I don't even want to tell DS that they're back in town b/c I know it would really hurt his feelings....and that is my whine for the day. I'm going to try to get over it... just needed to get that out.

Sugar, you must go places. Go to all the places that I probably will never go to. Someday you might not live in Germany and you'll be sorry that you didn't.

I ate a Taco Bell burrito supreme for lunch and I'm sorry.

Boo, that sucks and I feel bad. Eventually DS will know that his grandparents don't seem to care, but you're quite right, no point in telling him if you don't have to. I have discovered that apathy in parts of my family and it is such a dull shock to understand that some people just don't have the feelings you associate with family. Seems especially crummy knowing how much the baby means to you all, but I know you will rejoice in the good relationships. I just came from an in-law dinner out (very unusual for them to all go out to eat, couldn't pass that one up!) and DH's little grandnephew was there was my SIL. Everybody passed him around and oo'ed and ah'ed over him. Can't imagine how anyone could just not be interested in that!

DH won $20 at a credit union shareholders meeting this evening. That was worth the time.

I am going to a college graduation of a friend tomorrow. She has been working on her degree for some decades I think and is very excited to be done with it. Terrible timing, I have to drive an hour and a half, go to the graduation at 10:30AM, out to lunch, and drive back in time to take pictures of DD and BF in their finery before the prom. Then at 10:30PM, go to the after prom party and stay up all night trying to keep anyone from getting pregnant. :tired:

Who wants pictures of NYC? Put your orders in now. You have to tell me what you want a picture of and then I'll see if have one. I think I'm kidding. I'm just too tired to look at them and figure out which ones to send anyone.

I have to draw up a graduation party invitation. Who wants to go bowling? I wish I could see the expression on my half-sister's face when she sees that we are inviting people for pizza and bowling.

there's only so much you can with people. Sometimes, there's nothing you can do. DS grew up with mostly only me even though he has other relatives. He seems to be fine with it. But he's the type to not dwell on emotions.

Yesterday at work, this other cashier came through my line. As I was scanning her stuff, she picked up two items, carried them around the register and gave them to the bagger telling him to put them in a separate bag. I'm thinking she didn't do it on purpose but I had to point out that I had not scanned them, have the bagger check the receipt and confront her.

Then this anal person from elsewhere in the store was bagging for me. This little old lady person remembered she'd forgotten something and went to fetch it. Finally, another customer was in line and there we were standing and waiting so I went, go the lady, took her to the right aisle, got her can, took her back and finished. The the anal person handed me a bottle of water, a dollar and told me TWICE to ring up her water before the customer who had been standing there five minutes waiting to be released. No way. I told anal person togo ahead and begin drinking the water but I was ringing up the customer.

It was so weird. Like I was being tested.

I have to write a research paper on Gagne (with accent). Anyone know anything. Is it pronounced Gan yay.?

I have to write a research paper on Gagne (with accent). Anyone know anything. Is it pronounced Gan yay.? Around here the name is usually pronounced "Gone-ya" but it is also often spelled Gonya even though it was originally Gagne. Then there's Gagnon, which should be pronounced "Gone-YO", but instead is also pronounced Gone-ya around here. However with an accent, it should probably be pronounced "Gone-yay!" Be sure to pronounce the exclamation point.

heh heh

Who the heck is Gagne anyway? I'm too tired to look it up.

I got an incredible pig for Mother's Day. It is wearing red high heels and a fur trimmed dress. Liza Minelli reincarnated as a piggy bank, it is quite fetching. Also DH got me a pot of baby roses. Also quite fetching.

We showed up at the party ready to work last night at 10:30 PM. Did not sleep all night, dragged home at 7:00 AM, slept a few hours, headed back out at noon to watch the kids rafting. They had the best time!! They all want to do it again. None of them got any sleep to speak of during the night, and they are quite a bunch of wiped out puppies. But then, so am I.

Happy Mommy's Day, darlings.

I need NEED NEED ... well, I don't know. I am feeling hopeless here. I have so much to do for this class, not enough time to do it and I don't know how to do some of it !! I am going to spend the day in the library. Library files are supposed to be accessible from home but are not. I have to go there. I am so frustrated. The score for the test I took last month should be available soon and I probably didn't pass. Was too geared to people who know Florida history and people who guess better. I know Alabama history. Alabama means "Here we rest." Alabama contains the southernmost point of hte Appalachian Trail. The Black Warrior River and The Warrior River are the same river (names may be wrong) but part was renamed to make it two rivers to get federal aid for an extra river. ... See!! i could pass Alabama history where I grew up but as for knowing where the Greeks settled in Florida ... wHY SHOULD I KNOW THAT????? Why?? why??? why>>>

aND ds IS SUPPOSED to be at a senior's luncheon ummmm .. right now ... and he left 10 minutes ago after spending 20 minutes in the shower.

Tomorrow we're going to dinner after graduation with friends of his and their parents ( I don't even know their names ) and he WANT S ME TO CLEAN THE @#@* House!!! I have to go to the library. The library is clean. Maybe he could just take lcp there.

Well of course, how ridiculous. Even for teachers, life is open book. My favorite quote, you may have noticed. It should probably read like this:"Life is open book."
---Dr. Palubinskas
Alabama means "Here we rest." Alabama contains the southernmost point of hte Appalachian Trail. Well, that motto makes a lot of sense in context with that fact. That is, if anyone does the Appalachian Trail from north to south, which is not a good idea (you'd have to start so much later). I always thought the southern terminus was in Georgia -- Springer Mountain or something? Did they extend it, or have I simply been misinformed?
aND ds IS SUPPOSED to be at a senior's luncheon ummmm .. right now ... and he left 10 minutes ago after spending 20 minutes in the shower. That is rawther excessive. Kids.

Today I have already had a fight with DH and a fight with the dog. And I haven't even had lunch yet. DD skipped her first period today out of exhaustion. I would have said, go anyway, but she was very persuasive. And it let me sleep late. I almost got 8 hours of sleep in one stretch. That is unheard for me, unless it's a weekend when I can sleep late. I was so wiped out last night after all the prom stuff, that I actually went to bed at 12:30. Utterly astonishing.

Did I ever tell you that I never went to a high school prom? Blew it off junior year because my stupid boyfriend thought he was too old to take me to it (well, he was 23) and went to the mountains with my best friend instead. We picked up college guys and drank Boone's Farm apple wine. My best friend fell in love with one guy, I had to ist around awkwardly trying to talk to a guy named "Tree" while pretending not to watch the making out on the other side of the room. Makes ya glad you're not a teenager anymore, doesn't it?
Senior year I was invited by a somewhat icky zit-faced boy and turned him down and stayed home.

Can you say "living vicariously" through your children?

Happy belated Mom's Day, Cowies!!!Hope it was a good one for everyone, even those who are furbaby moms. DS & DDIL & Kayden were over w/ a fuschia to hang on my front porch and the sweetest card. DD called to say she was broke, but would be over this week to make me a fabulous dinner. She's had a bad week. On Saturday she called me at 5:10 to tell me she'd locked her keys in her car, would I please bring her spare key? Even though I was expecting 11 ppl at 6 pm for bunco, I was a nice mom and drove like a bat outta h*ll to drop off her key. Left a note on the door saying "drinks are in the cooler, relax and I'll be back". I made a 60 minute trip in 50 minutes.

Speaking of bunco (anyway I was) it turned out fine, even if I was a bit frazzled. It was baked ziti, caesar salad, broccoli salad, parmesan bread & caramel apple cheesecake for dessert. AND I won most bunco's w/ a record breaking EIGHT buncos. I should have gone out and bought a bunch of lotto tickets b/c I was hot. No one has ever had 8 buncos. :encore:

Peachers didn't the greeks settle in Miami in the '70's along w/ all the other retirees?

Kiwi, would your half sis consider bowling gauche? I guess I won't bother to invite her to bunco.

A continuation of my whine - I took my mom a gift on Mothers day and my brother's gf who is a checker at the local grocery said "I got to see Kayden when DS & wife went through my line yesterday" and my mom said "I haven't gotten to see her yet!" (she hasn't attempted to) I told her "all you have to do is go visit, they're home almost all the time". She didn't say another word about it. OK, whine over.

I have to go do a search on the internet to find out what vinegar will do for me.

Isn't that the truth about BF? I'm sure at all the concerts/competitions everyone thinks he is one of the teachers. All the seniors are starting to look like grownups, I noticed at the prom party, especially the boys. Yikes. Where did the the time go?

I am so clueless about this party invitation. I have a dandy logo for the high school class that I was going to put on the front, then use a pre-made grad party invitation on the back, but the 2 elements simply don't go together, not to mention where do you say something like "pizza and bowling" without making it sound like a 12 year old's birthday? Oy. Maybe that bowling site will give me ideas!

Awwww, just look at those two prom-goers! How sweet! Dd looks gorgeous, just like a princess. They look so mature, though, like they've been married for 10 years. The bf kind of reminds me of a young (and thin!) Luciano Pavarotti, and I mean that in a good way. :D

(trust me to not even notice the picture of Jesus. tsk.)

Well, dh and I are in fightin' mode and haven't said more than two words to each other since Sunday night. But this too shall blow over and I'm not wasting my energy on being mad.

We're doing one of those "Flat Stanley" projects where you get a paper cut- out from an elementary school kid sent to you and then show him/her around town, take pictures and send it back. Our kid is in third grade and lives in Chicago and we've been showing his "Flat Steve" a good time in Dullsville. Look! Here's the church! And city hall! And the school! And a big mountain of waste material from the old potash mine. And...oh, that's all there is. Hope you enjoyed your stay! Zzzzzzzzz!

Peachy - I am worried about you being too stressed out. Why don't they make you learn stuff that you'll REALLY need to be able to teach, not silly history stuff that anyone can look up in a book? That's ridiculous.

Love your comments on the kids. Except for "married for 10 years" one. :kickbutt: Bf's family haven't noticed what a heathen I am, I guess. I think they are well aware of DD's views on religion though; at least the boys are. She's an outspoken skeptic, but the family loves her, so I guess they can handle it. BF plays piano in church and his twin sings, but I'm not sure how that reflects their own attitudes. The whole family goes to church and they don't talk about religion with company. You know, like normal people. :s:

The moose was one I saw by the side of the road while driving back from the rafting. It just stood there eating weeds letting people take its picture. Maybe it is a pet...

Here's what I've come up with for a graduation invitation. It's a 2-sided postcard size thing that will go in with announcements. On the left is the front of the card, and the other 3 are various incarnations of the back side. DD doesn't seem to care. DH wants to micromanage it and add directions on what time people should expect what kind of food and words like "camaraderie" so I'm not asking him again...

Whatcha think, anyone have suggestions? The front and the back don't seem to go together, but I'm not sure that matters.

Kiwi - the invitations are totally spiffy as they are and the bowling party sounds so fun! I haven't been bowling in years and years. "Cameraderie" - heh. Wouldn't it be nice if men would just manage the things they're SUPPOSED to manage and just leave the rest to us? :D

Wabs - about the apple cider vinegar - if you do a search you'll come up with tons of information. It's supposed to be good for just about everything, including heartburn. 2 teaspoons vinegar, 2 tsp honey in a glass of water three times a day. And it doesn't taste that bad. Sort of like apple juice that's gone a bit off. :smug:

Graduatjun was good. What can I say. The college one was long and full of people who didn't know each other. This one was gooder. A woman gave a speech that mentioned the name of every single student and some achievement they made. Was good speech. Kids were happy. They swung their heads so the tassel kept moving around. They wore white so now they all have angel/ghost/bridal costumes for Halloween.

Then we went to Japanese place which was far too expensive for me. There were 14 of us and I only knew DS and lcp. LCP had no adult with her so I was hers. There were four graduates at the table. At the ceremony, I sat behind a woman with a weird bad haircut of split end curly stuff that ended above the shoulder and one little bitty braid with a bead on the end. The bead bobbed up and down as she moved her head and was ugly. She turned out to sit next to me at dinner.

Dinner was a disappointment in this way: DS ordered steak as did some others and this guy came to the table to cook it. He put rice and veggies on everyone's plate (except the sushi orderers) but not DS's. We figured he knew what he was going but then he cooked the meat and served everyone except DS. At this point I asked the waiter if the cook wasn't supposed to be cooking for DS and he ran away to get the steak. The cook blamed the waiter and DS got steak but no rice/veggies like eveyone else and .. as I said .. it was expensive. PLUS LCP had rice/veggies which were delish (I had it too) and ate about 2 bites. She wouldn't take it home. I paid for it. She offered to leave a tip and did so but then I saw that the tip had been added onto the bill .. and they had not earned my favor by not cooking for my son ... so she took the tip and gave it to me and I pocketed it. DS tried to give it back to her. DS paid for nothing. Was I tacky to take it from her? I don't know how to act at all.

I am so sorry Sugar is sick and so impressed with Kiwi's parenting stuff. I'm just not up to it.

Bye. Must shower and go to work.

Peach, you also have mad mothering skilz. Look at the boy you turned out.... and all by your lonesome too. I wouldn't lose any sleep over the tip... I hate restaurants that add in a tip automatically. It takes the good service incentive away.

My friend that I see not all that often called this morning. She had brain surgery last week. I didn't know. I'm not a very good friend. She had some kind of brain thingy (not a tumor) that started causing seizures, and she's just a young thang. In her early 30's. She's fine now, but how scary.

Ouchie on that headache, hope it goes away tout de suite.

Peachie, sounds like H.S. graduation was quite lovely! Bummer about the dinner. I am a little peeved at LCP (as if I know her or something) for not saying to DS -- "here, eat mine". You did fine pocketing her tip -- all you did was put her money toward the tip you already paid. When I'm with DD's friends without any of their parents, I often treat them like my own kid and (very mildly) correct them when they screw up. I'm sure they think I'm some kind of freak, but they still come around. Of course it's mostly DD who needs the :rollpin:. She told me yesterday that now that everybody in the known universe seems to know that she is the valedictorian, she is relishing her role as a ditz more than ever. She and bf and another friend performed at a benefit dinner last night and we sat across from them while they were waiting to perform. She and this other guy fight all the time, and BF actually moved over so as not to be stuck between them! It was funny. It irks the guy that she is supposed to be so smart but she acts like such a nitwit sometimes. BF just smiles and shakes his head. He's a saint.

DH and I got an interesting comment from DD's band director while at this dinner. After talking to DH for a while (and she and I had spent some time together in NYC), she says "I used to find it puzzling how this strange kid came from 2 such nice people, but I'm starting to understand it." I love it.

I want to hear about Bagz' ds' acting role too! Was he adorable? Of course he was. :encore:

I had the worst day yet at work. Here's why:

1. Register thingy quit accepting credit cards. Moved to another register. Lots of people in line. Few cashiers.

2. Old friendly guy told me a box that had passed by had a coupon taped to it and I had missed it. "How could you miss it?" he said friendlyish. I took the d***ed coupon and scanned it. Then saw it had scanned when then item scanned. Went to get customer service person to add the $1 back to their bill. Old friendly guy's wife said to him, "Watch her!" Then stood behind him so I couldnt' see her and examined the receipt.

3. Register thingy quit showing people what I was scanning. Moved to another register.

4. Tape need replacing on register. Man waiting tapped his fingernails louder and louder and louder and made me so nervous I couldn't get the tape in straight. Customer service person (we got a ton of 'em) came by and put tape in.

5. I was making change for $100 bill on a $5 item and these two men in line stopped their conversation and leered at the money in my till. Wanted to yell WOO HOO at them.

No food he likes. No mags he likes. Buy cute tee shirts and cannisters. You can train dh to do the shopping himself. This is what men do when they mess up the laundry.

Wow, and you centered your post too. Very artistic.

I'll bet you'll be a good trainer. I liked training people when I've done it. Apparently I like telling people what to do.

Here's why I don't want DH doing the shopping: just like when he does the laundry, he only does his own. He's only willing to wash his own clothes, then I have small loads of mine that end up sitting in the hamper longer. And he is congenitally unable to read labels so there's no point in trying to train him to do all the laundry, I won't have any sweaters or wool socks left. Same with the shopping, he buys only what he wants; even if I give him a list, he "can't find" a lot of the things on it that I need. Last time he was going shopping and I gave him the list, I wanted a bag of rawhide bones for Jet. I described the bag (he'd seen it before), what aisle it's in and about where to find it. He couldn't find it. I went to the store a few days later and found 3 rows of the bags in the middle of the dog food/treats aisle at eye level. Hopeless. What could I train him in that I really want him to do?

My reading glasses are driving me crazy. I think they put the lenses in the wrong sides. They work better upside down. However either way they make my eyes hurt.

Hope everyone is having a lervely weekend. I just vacuumed and "dusted" (okay I vacuumed the walls) the living room.

There's a list of recipients on their website, it's huge. It must be well over a million dollars they are giving away this year. Penance.

Yay on the test passing!

The bugs around here are vicious! I have a bunch of bites on my face, neck and ears. Worse yet, Jet suddenly swelled up last night, apparently because of bug bites. Her eyes got all swollen and her muzzle swelled up too. And it just kept getting worse. Scared me so much I called the Emergency Vet in Bangor to see if I could give her benadryl. They gave me a dosage amount, which I gave her and eventually it started to recede. She's fine this morning, but I'm half expecting to see it again today. I can't very well keep her inside all the time, and she's a great black fly magnet. Damn things. They like to fly into your eyes and ears and crawl under your hair and the edges of your clothes and bite bite bite. Then they come inside the house with you and gather on the windows. If you smush them, you get blood all over. Where's the DDT when you need it :s:?

I don't remember about hearing about this when you had Mollie. Why is Jet attracting these flies? Feed her garlic powder. It's supposed to keep away fleas. Not that I know but I've heard.

I finished my paper, turned it in and it's only 7 percent plaigiarized and that's the references. Do you know about this turnitin.com? Teachers are having kids submit their papers there for an instant plaigiarism analysis.

We get to do our final online and she's divided it into chapters and each chapter has some kind of generous time limit but when he finish the chapter we can't go back. Sounds easy doesn't it? The book has no index so that'll make it harder. But it's doable. I am so relieved to have that paper turned in.

I have bugs too. They're ants. The only way I've found to deal with them is to not have anything out they they want. DS left a plate out with a pork chop bone on it and a river of ants flowed in.

I finished my paper, turned it in and it's only 7 percent plaigiarized and that's the references. Guess I didn't need to send you that link about theses then.

I don't think Molly ever had a reaction like Jet did. It was the wierdest thing you ever saw, it's like she changed into a different breed all of a sudden -- normally she has such a thin pointy muzzle and sort of smoothness to her head -- when she swelled up suddenly her muzzle was big and her head around the eyes was big and lumpy. She looked sort of like a Husky like the one below. The good news is she was outside plenty yesterday too, and must have also gotten plenty of fly bites (because I did) and she didn't swell up at all. Maybe she got bitten by a bee on saturday.

I have ants too. I bought a can of Raid ant spray and I spray the inside of the kitchen trash can and sometimes around the edge of the floor. The ant traps never seem to do much of anything. I bought one kind that is see-through so you can see when the bait is gone -- I had them set out for months and none of the bait ever left, even though we continued to have ants. Really good product, eh? Yesterday I had to clean and take apart my silverware drawer (it was all wobbly and the only way to fix the stupid thing is to take it entirely apart. I was cleaning it because there were a couple of ants in there, so I wiped down the whole drawer with white vinegar. Ants aren't supposed to like that. Of course while I was doing it I saw another ant waiting on the front of the drawer framing to climb into the drawer. Seriously. :dunno:

I'm having portabello mushrooms for dinner. Gotta go cook.

I am a blimp. I've been eating myself into a coma on a daily basis. We went to the beach for the weekend and it was gorgeous weather. Perfect. A ten. Neither of our kids wanted to go because the weather forecast was for rain. They stayed home. Oh well. It was beautiful weather and it was very peaceful.

Poor Jet. We don't have blackflys or ticks or such nasty critters that torture innocent doggies. DH tried to trim our Dotty dog's toenails yesterday. She hates to get them trimmed and struggles and wiggles, and wouldn't you know it, he cut one too short and made it bleed. If she'd just stay still, it would have never happened. Dogs don't believe you when you tell them that. Now she's really afraid to get them clipped.

Congrats, Teacher Peach. Wasn't there a cartoon with a teacher who's name was Miss Peach?

We had a power outtage here at work today. 2 hours w/ no 'lecricity. I actually resorted to cleaning out a cupboard.

We're going to a meeting w/ the city planning board tonight re: annexation of our property to the city. Keep your fingers and toes crossed for us. After it goes through that process, they will put it on the ballot next November for voter approval. What a big rigamarole. That is a word, isn't it?

My garden is sooo purdy this time of year. I have iris and peonys and roses and bunches of other stuff blooming. It smells wonderful.

Miss Peach sez if that husky wuz black, he wouldn't be so purdy. Poor little Jet.

I have good news: My final was cancelled and I have finished all requirements for the course except showing up Thursday to hear a guest lecturer.

Bad news: I have gained 6 lbs since taking this job 3 months ago.

Wabbo, when you have a power outage at work, you're supposed to sit around with the other employees and talk about it. When is the power coming on? Has anyone called? Let's go next door and see if they have power. Stuff like that. No cleaning.

Kiwonk

Peachie very wise. Always talk about power outage during power outage. And play cards.

The beach sounds perfect.

Jet is totally in agreement with Dotty. Toenail clipping is evil evil evil. She prefers to register her displeasure by playing keepaway and biting the clippers and generally being impossible.

My cats feel that way too !!!! Are cats and dogs related??? I have one with claws that grow in a circle and have grown back into the little paw. I can't clip them. Maybe four of me could but I alone am no match for a wiggly determined kitty. So I haul him to the cat vet about 30 miles away for a free trim every now and then.

I have nothing I have to do today. It's been so long. sighhhhh

Wabby

A free trim???? There are vets that do such things??? My vet charges $15 to trim toenails. Isn't that ridiculous? I like our vet, but I think he's a bit expensive. They wanted double what another vet wanted to spay DD's weiner dog. Of course, vet #2 actually asked DD if she wanted pain meds for her dog -- as if that would be an option. Aren't you glad your Dr. doesn't ask your insurance company if they'd like to pay for pain meds after surgery?

Peaches, I've gained 30 pounds since I started this job.... and I would hang out w/ the other employees and talk about when the power is coming back on, but all the other employees were out working, and I'd play cards, but my card game is on the computer so that was out. Believe me, I'd do just about anything rather than clean.

Thank you for crossing your fingers for the city planning meeting. It worked. We're approved - now it goes to the city commission and then for a vote of the citizens. It's amazing anything gets built around here.

Peach, enjoy your day with nothing to do. How wonderful.

Howdy, y'all. I am back from Intestine Town and I had a marvelous time. Just a bit itchy because of the three cats, but it was worth it. People from San Francisco, L.A., N.C. and Kentucky. And someone's German husband who I swear is just an American dressed up in a German suit. And a very funny Margaret Cho DVD. My goodness - I live such a sheltered life. Learned lots of new words.

4 hours each way on the train almost killed me but at least it wasn't cancelled this time. I am tired, tired, tired.

Congratulations, Peachie! Can we call you Teachie now? Whe are you going to start molding young minds and changing the world?

Kiwi - Wow, that's scary about Jet. I didn't know they could react that way.

Wabs - I won't even say how much weight I've gained since I moved here, but it's TOOOOO much and must come off somehow.

Yes! I think cats and dogs must be related -- just look at all the similarities: they each have four feet and they have claws. And they have furry bodies and teeth! And tails! And they lick themselves! And they bark at traffic!

My old vet used to clip the dog's nails for free occasionally. He retired and I have to go 40 miles to this vet. I haven't thought to ask him if they'd do it when I've had her boarding there.

I'm so sorry you couldn't find anything to do but clean, Wabbit. Ah well, hopefully it won't happen too often.

I gained 40 lbs since starting this job. You know, the mommy one. Sheesh. I guess I'd better not think of getting another job next fall because I might balloon up to whale heft. Ya think?

Hey guess who swelled up today? ME! I think it's just a bug bite, but I got a hive like swelling on my eyelid. Very pretty. Also, here's a weird allergic reaction: my hands get unbearably itchy for unknown reasons and then it subsides after 20-30 minutes. I think I need stronger allergy meds than I can buy over the counter. What a spring this has been.

Could it be that we have crossed over from Spring Excitement to Summer Doldrums? Not judging by the temperature -- it was 49 degrees this morning when I took DD to school. But we have just added mosquitoes to the bug mix, indicating almost summer. Nothing like black flies and mosquitoes together to make sure you itch all over and at all hours.

I think I may have pinpointed the itchy problem with my hands. I was peeling potatoes this afternoon and they started to itch like crazy again. So clearly it's housework! No, really, I think it might the SoftSoap I've been using at the kitchen sink. Seems like I wash my hands an awful lot, what with the dog and the ants and all the usual things. Before I bought this soap I was using leftover soap from the bathroom--it gets small, it goes in the kitchen, and never had a problem like this with my hands. And I really liked the smell of this SoftSoap -- Vanilla Brown Sugar. mmmm But I'm going to quit using it and see. I'll just have to bake something to make up for it :s:

Our lilacs are apparently in full bloom finally. I just love that fragrance. I forgot to go out and smell them today. How come they only want to bloom at the top of the bush/tree? Seems like years ago, they were a lot bushier. I think I'm pruning them wrong.

Hi Cowsies. I've turned over a new leaf and I'm going to be organized and get my work done in an orderly fashion. I'm also going to learn to keep my mouth shut. I did a good deed yesterday and took my friend who recently had surgery to a Dr. appt. b/c she can't drive yet. I totally cancelled out the good deed karma by making a not nice remark about a company that I later realized her DH works for now. That's the short version, but there's a long version that makes it a really bad thing for me to have said. If DH knew he would strangle me. If I could, I would strangle me. If you look in the dictionary under "Wabby" this is what you'd see......:foot:

Where's Schatzi? I'm getting worried about her.

I also have a bunch of extended family stuff going on that's making me feel very uneasy. Family. You can't pick 'em.

Wabbit, I know that feeling, it's just awful. Many's the time I've had to :kickbutt: myself. Enjoy your weekend, and forget about le faux pas. There, you put it in another language, it sounds almost chic, no? Have a good weekend.

To try to entice Bagz back here (apparently only the promise of buckets of calamine lotion will entice Schatzi and Painty back..:s: ), I will list the pieces that the kids did last night at the school concert. Everyone else can file their nails for a minute:

Some of the seniors directed concert band pieces: Sousa's Liberty Bell March, selections from "Cats", The Sounds of Simon & Garfunkel, and Celtic Suite by Elliot Del Borgo (DDbf directed that one and it was primo of course). They also did 2 pieces "selected by" seniors: House of Horrors, a medley of horror themes, and Rites of Tamburo by Robert W. Smith, plus When Angels Weep by David Shaffer.

Then the concert choir did their thing, starting with a stunning rendition of Aquarius/Let the Sun Shine In which began with the student director picking up a mike in front of the darkened auditorium and singing the first couple lines of the song, with the chorus joining in from all over the auditorium, back and aisles as the lights came on and they streamed down front. It was very well done, lots of energy. DD directed The Fiddle and The Drum (Joni Mitchell song), that she also arranged, BFtw directed The Pasture by Stroope, they did Deo Dicamus Gratias and Faure's Psalm 84 with their teacher directing. There was a great gospel song that one senior directed Go Where I Send Thee, and they closed the program with DDbf directing Martin's The Awakening. He's a real natural, looks like he's been doing this all his life. DD had a different method, you might say: she got the job done--the kids said hers was the only piece that they didn't make a single mistake on, but she has a, ahem, somewhat untraditional style of conducting. I would describe it as the Chop and Grab. My daughter, gotta love her.

After the concert, they gave out music awards. DD got a national chorus award (bf got six million awards). And the teachers finished out the evening by giving out fun awards to the seniors. Many of them were a riot: DD got the "Smartest Dumb Person" award for her total goofiness.

We got a new video camera yesterday. Our old one has really messed up a few things we tried to film lately; we were looking them yesterday and DH and I decided we just had to junk it and get a new one. He made a quick trip to the big city and got us a cute little Sony Handicam. It's slick. I'm only about 1/10 through the manual, it has so many features, but I was at least able to use it last night. It has nice sound, probably better picture than the old too. I've got to put up the old one on ebay for parts.

We went to The Da Vinci Code last night. It was pretty good. Or I guess I would say, as a movie it was very well done. Since I haven't finished the book, I don't know if it would be a disappointment for those who have. DH said there was a lot more code-breaking in the book. But it was definitely intriguing and held your interest. I think it's entirely ridiculous that religious groups would take it seriously enough to find it controversial, but perhaps they don't think their beliefs can withstand the challenge.

I didn't like OTHER's kids graduation parties all that much. Even for the kids I really enjoyed. I think I'm more of a (very) small group person. As in one-on-one!!

DH is on the weightloss wagon with me now. Ironically (or predictably, depending on your point of view), when I got tooooo heavy, he started thinking about HIS health, type II diabetes, weight, bla bla bla. So at least he's "with" me rather than "agin'" me. :lifter:

I gave him permission to nag/correct when I make self-put-down remarks. Those are what keep me eating the wrong things in the wrong amount at the wrong time. Otherwise, food as fuel would be plenty. Even food as fun would be OK if it weren't falling into a dark abyss of self doubt (or worse.):frypan:

What is truly ironic is that I can ALWAYS find good things to say about OTHER people. It just doesn't occur to me to talk to myself that way.:rollpin:

Today's excitement?
I mistakenly thought the duvet would fit in the washer... so woke up this morning to Lake Plano in the laundry room. DH sopped up most of the water and is now "puttering" and taking the washer AND dryer into the garage to make sure it was really the duvet rather than some intrinsic hose blow-out or something.:stress: :stress: :stress:

I'm staying out of the way. And next time will take the duvet to the cleaners. It SAID it was washable.:(

I wish I could see Kiwidd's performances. Doesn't Kiwi Sr. have a video to loan out?

Yesterday, DS started working where I work. I kinda like it and kinda don't. I like seeing him smiling and doing the job well and don't like seeing him stroll in with a wrinkled shirt and sultry attitude.

I am so tired. DS went to spend the day with lcp. Speaking of cutie pies, we have these young women from Thailand working with us as guest workers. One of them looks like she wakes up in a dew-laden garden under a clover leaf. She is just one of the most beautiful people I have ever seen. She has braces with pink bands and she works very hard. She speaks English but not very well. Yesterday, she was talking with me and I told her she was pretty. She grabbed both my hands and exclaimed, "I KNOW!!!" It's funny isn't it how there's English and there's English. Imagine Kiwidd answering compliments with "I know."

Anyway, I'm tired and my house is a tip and I'm fighting ants again. I watched an Iranian movie last night called "Children of Heaven." It was good and if you like foreign films you might like it. The title is inappropiate as it's mostly about two kids in a family and how they work on a problem together. It appealed to me to see the kids in school and how all the kids had the same attitudes and mannerisms as American kids.

Ok bye.

Hello I can type again! :carrot: You understood my hieroglyphics! DH is currently working on a DVD that so far includes pieces from this year's variety show and also the show choir performing Jesus Christ Superstar. When he's done maybe I can compile something and make copies for you all. Do you have a DVD player? A lot of times, homemade dvds don't work so well on other people's dvd players, but if you have a dvd drive on your computer that would play it too.

Well, we spent just about the entire day yesterday at DDbf's and bftw's graduation party. It was a nice shindig. Their mom had put together a very impressive display of photos and more. They are the cutest family ever. Their boys--4 of 'em--are from 15 to 19 years old, so in the pictures from when they were little they look nearly the same age. Adorable. Anyway, we stayed to help them clean up, then we made the boys open their gifts from us -- we gave DDbf a kit of piano tuning tools so he could touch up pianos himself, and we gave the twin, who wants to be a pastry chef, a box of marzipan fruits and veggies from a shop in Boston, and then we ended up going back to their house and eating leftovers with them. I've had worse days...

I wish I had paid attention when I've gone to graduation parties in past years -- I should have started months ago figuring out what I'm going to display at our party. I'm thinking of buying a roll of some kind of wide paper and sticking DD's early artwork and cute school papers on it. I think it should be a dark background though, or it will look kind of crappy. I hate to spend much money, this party is already going through the roof. DDbf's father said he spent $70 just on ICE yesterday. I started working out last night how much food we will need. I never put on a party this size before, except for my wedding and over course then there were people to say "here's what you'll need for that many guests". Plus I don't know how much time we will have to set up, so probably any decoration type things should be really quick to put up. Oy. I certainly have my work cut out for me this week.

Hope you are all having a lovely Memorial Day weekend, except for Canadians who must pretend it's not a holiday. Ya gotta love us self-centered Merkins, right?

I am enlightened. Thanks Wabbo.

I am unhappy with DS and other stuff. He had an appt last week to get a hepititus shot .. the one college students need. He went today to get it. This is because he knew I was getting unhappy. He could tell by my b*tching.

I asked Ds to wash the d*mn*d house weeks and weeks ago. I realize he couldn't til school was out but school was out in early May. I mean he NOT EVEN called to find a pressure washer. So I think I have to do it and I think I have to wait til fall as IT IS ALREADY TOO HOT HERE. Now he's thinking about doing it to calm me down and I'm saying NO DON'T WHY DON'T YOU EVEN DO ANYTHING WHEN I ASK YOU DON'T DO IT NOW IT'S TOO LATE DON'T DON'T DON'T DO IT.

He's going hiking all weekend. LCP is in town so I dosn't know what's going on. This bugs me also. I have not complained nor criticized this relationship but I'm sure kept in the dark about it.

5. The people I'm speaking of are older than you, Wabbo. You say $82.61 and they look around like they wonder who I'm talking to. Then they look for their wallet. While looking for wallet they remember they last used credit card in other store and wonder if they picked it up. They open wallet and there it is. How much again, they ask? $82.61. They peer at register to read it themselves. They slide debit card and ponder if they want cash back. Debit card thing times out. I tell them they have to slide it again. Why? They already did it. I don't know how it works, I say. But will they be charged twice. Call your bank and make sure, I advise. They take receipt. They put card back in wallet. They put wallet in purse. They pick up bag. They pick up second bag. They pick up third bag. Then fourth bag. They look around. They walk away.

Peaches, your description of doddering old customers was hilarious. You have the patience of a saint. This is what I did once, before the days of debit cards -- Got huge cart of groceries. Didn't look for checkbook until they were rung up. Realized DH had used checkbook and didn't put back in my purse. Asked if they could keep my groceries in the cooler while I ran home for check book. Got back to store. Relocated my groceries. Pushed huge cart of groceries back to checker to pay. Opened checkbook. DH had used last check. Asked checker to put groceries back in cooler while I went home for checks. Drove home, dug out checks and drove back to store. Relocated groceries again. Finally paid for groceries and drove back home. It was an all day grocery trip.

Cowpernia
05-30-2006, 03:51 PM
Wabby ... do not come through my line. These customers aren't doddering. They are privileged. They are entitled. They are accustomed to having people wait on them (literally in this case) and they don't see cashiers as real actual human beings. A lot of them do but a lot don't.

The latest really really bad one handed me hand full of change for her bill. I counted it and told her it was too much. She got all mad then and snapped, "Just give it back then. This too hard for you and for me." Welllllll ... it wasn't too hard for me as I can count.

Speaking of counting, they gave me this teenager to train for a few minutes yesterday before she went to real trainer. When she owed someone 36 cents, she gave them a quarter, a dime, a nickel and a penny. After this happened 2 or 3 times, I told her to count out all the money to customer. So then it was 25 cents, 26 cents, 27 cents, 28 cents, 29 cents. I have no patience left in my body.

My dryer needs fixing. It sounds like a siren. So Friday I get to wait for that guy.

How do you soften stratchy polyesther shirts? You ask a lot of questions for someone from New Jersey. I'm only going to answer the first question and the last one: American. Use it for a rag.

You all are very amusing today. Love the old people looking around the store like they think maybe the grim reaper will bail them out of this grocery bill. Also love Wabbit's trip. I'm impressed that you didn't just give up and stay home.

"going hiking all weekend" sounds like a hastily made up story if I ever heard one. He didn't want to say "camping" because he was afraid that you would associate that with gf snuggling. Nobody hikes all weekend, they'd drop dead.

I think you should make sure he is properly prepared for his weekend.

Hey, just being honest...

Good grief, don't they screen these kids to see if they can count before they hire them? That sounds like a minimal requirement. DH keeps suggesting that DD apply for a job at the grocery store. She did apply to the store that many of her friends work at, but doesn't want to apply to the bigger one, which actually has openings, because she hears it is miserable to work there. I am staying out of it, hoping she can find something else to do this summer. I worked at a grocery store beginning the same day I graduated from high school (needless to say I didn't go to any graduation parties), and I always regretted it. Not so much the work, but the fact that I didn't even give myself a few days to enjoy my freedom, and then I had to put up with an "affectionate" boss as well. Work sucks.

It's a wonder they let me work in retail at all. ALL the older customers at our supermarket just hold open their wallets and let the cashier take out whatever they owe.

I am still fat. Went to my volunteer class at the library and only two of the little nippers showed up and one of them was my kid so we went home. People just don't appreciate something when it's free.

We have wee birdies nesting on our deck. They are adorable.

That is all for now. I must go to bed.

Miss Painty, you are not required to check in on any particular schedule. We will welcome you with open arms any 'ol time you get the time to post. If I wasn't chained to this desk I'd probably post less often, too. Probably. well, maybe not.... I'm sorry you got into the poison oak, & I hope your cardiologist figures out what's up w/ the pain. I'd say that my DH is on the weight loss wagon w/ me too, except so far we just talk about getting on the wagon. We're going to do it every monday morning, but the wagon always pulls out of the station before we get on, and before you know it, it's friday again and you know you can't start a diet on the weekend. :dunno:

If you're dieting plug your ears---- I made this really good cake this weekend. You slice up 3-4 C. rhubarb, & mix w/ 1 1/2 C. sugar, set aside. Prepare a yellow cake mix per package directions. Pour in a 9" x 13" pan. Sprinkle rhubarb over top. Pour 1 pint heavy cream over top of that. Sprinkle w/ 1 tsp. cinnamon. Bake @ 350 degrees F for 60 minutes. The cake rises to the top, so cut it and flip it over to serve. This is soooo good you can't believe it. I bought the rhubarb at the farmers market. I'm sure it's good for you, what with the rhubarb in it.

PS, Sugar, that article explains alot about my German friend that lives here. You can take the girl out of the country, but you can't take Germany outta the girl.... but you know she means what she says.

Have You Gained Weight? (http://service.spiegel.de/cache/international/0,1518,416920,00.html)Wow, that's some culture shock!! But I think it sounds like heaven -- do you have any idea how much I would like to say what I really think? According to that webpage, the implication is that if someone asks you what they think, they are prepared to hear the answer, even interested in why you think that, which is certainly not the case in the U.S. I have spent the past 24 years dodging what I really think with my in-laws and with other people in this town. The exception being my MIL, who has often encouraged me to just tell her yes or no and she doesn't mind which it is. All that bluntness would certainly take some getting used to; more power to you, Sugar.

By the way, I love the photo on that page. Peeps come to mind...

The rhubarb cake sounds really good. If I liked rhubarb, that is (she says in that German way she has of being so blunt...).

Had "a lunch" with the in-laws this evening to say goodbye to the nephew who has been on leave after his tour of duty in Iraq. We ate at 5 o'clock and I'm now starving. What to do, what to do...

Guess I'll just have to go ahead and have dinner...

I'm old and fat, and the fat has now impaired my memory.. I read all the posts to catch up with da cowsies, and forgotten all already.
MIL and BIL came down fer the holiday weekend... I was feeling better by then.. 3 hospital trips, respiratory therapy and rampant poison ivy are all pretty much cleared up.

went to see the Davinci Code, I thought it was very well done too.. Dh is correcto alot more Codex crap in the novel...

Cowpeach continues to amuse and delight with her "STOREys" he hee, corny I know!
Peachy continues to heal, and how wonderful that DH took a proactive approach to Dxing the Washers Woe.

Kiwi , yes if no trouble, I would love to see a montage of the Grand Kiwette too...
hmmm Sug, maybe I'm a european in a Merkin land.. I sometimes CANNOT hold my tongue... I useta work in Human Resources, and when I'd go tawk with my boss, I'd say : May I be Frank? which resulted in , when I would visit with her, she would begin the convo with " Who's here today? Charlene or Frank?

Wabby -- dear gawd! Three trips fer groceries, I would gave up after the 2nd trip outta sheer exhaustion.

I'll pop back in later ...I missed you allll MooooWha! Cow kisses to you!:chockiss:

Ok, Shotso, you can be fat but I don't speak to people who are younger than I and who avow that they are old. What does that make me then!!

Just come and tell us about yurself (other than oldness). You don't have to issue personal responses ... just come on in. Ok? Ok!

I have the day off. It's like old times except it's Wednesday, not Thursday.

DS is going hiking. I know this because emails come in from scout people about it. He is one of the "adults" going along.

Back atcha, Schatzi-- I missed you! Pneumonia wasn't enough for you, huh? had to add in the poison ivy just to make it really miserable? DH & I went to see the DaVinci Code too. I liked the movie just about the same as the book....just like the book, the movie didn't quite live up to the hype. Not to say that it wasn't good, just not fabulous. I guess I'm not into code breaking and puzzles and such.

Kiwi, I'm not crazy for rhubarb either, but put enough sugar and cream in something and it's gotta taste good....and thank you for your directness, it really didn't hurt my feelings a bit. hee.

I've got me a pounding headache this morning. I don't think it's a migraine, though. Don't feel barfy enough for that. I'm sure you wanted to know.

Here's the latest thing my parents are doing to irritate me---- my youngest brother (47) is a mess. He has some major anger problems. A year ago he was arrested for domestic abuse. 2 years ago he got 2 DUII's within 2 weeks. He's an alcoholic and I'm sure does plenty of other drugs..... so to reward him for such behaviour, my parents are paying for the down payment and closing costs on a house. Apparently they think he beats on his GF b/c their apartment is too small........ is this crazy or what? I think the only thing they should be paying for is a therapist, if that. Grrrrr. This is why I tend to avoid my family....... and my parents still have not bothered to drive the 15 minutes to go see their great grand daughter.

Sugar, that was a great article. I lived in Germany in my formative years, so I still have a bit of that in me. Sometimes I don't get Americans! I like being around people who say what they mean!

Peaches, I get your frustration with DS. I was actually feeling quite inadequate because I have been clashing with my DS17 and he has been working as hard as he can not to live up to his potential. Even though he finished at the bottom of his class this year, he still got chosen for two prestigious summer classes (one is kind of a recruiting thingie for the Army, the other is a recruiting thingie for the state university.) Anyway, he shut me out of prom this year. Blah blah blah. Let's just say we're at a point right now where I'll be amazed if he graduates from high school.

I'm on summer break, so I've been cleaning my house and rescuing my plants from the school year neglect. There were only a few casualties, but one was a favorite- my rosary vine. (It's funny how having only one job feels like a vacation!)

DH and I have now been wogging for a month and a half. We've worked up to about a 15-minute jog. I'm also back to doing my fitness DVDs and logging my food. If my calculations are to be believed, my metabolism is a little less than 1500. That's messed up.

Hi to Wabby (I love getting the pictures!), Kiwi, Schotz, Painty, Baggzz, and anyone else I might have missed!

Hi Cherry, hope you're enjoying your semi-vacation! What does that metabolism number mean? Is that something you had measured? I wonder how long it will be before people can take a simple treatment to tweak their metabolism up when they want to lose weight. Probably I shouldn't sit around and wait for that.

Wabbit, that family of yours is driving me crazy. How frustrating it must be. You see that a lot though, the screw-up gets not only all the attention, but all the resources including the emotional ones. My parents have tried so hard not to do that with my brother, but even knowing they didn't want to slight their other kids for his endless needs, they found themselves helping where they knew it would do no good. There must be some sort of instinct in people that makes it nearly impossible to cut the cord on your own even when you know you should. Of course some people make a career out of enabling bad behavior.

Speaking of dysfunctional families, I'm still debating whether to go to my half-sister's party this weekend, for my niece's graduation. It conflicts with one of dd's best friends' parties, and I will feel bad either way. As a matter of fact, I will feel bad going to this party, or not going to it. I will probably hear all sorts of fake hearty bullshit and assurances that they are all coming to DD's grad party or graduation, and then I'll just get that sick sinking feeling when none of them show up. You see, apparently I've already decided I have to go to this. Wouldn't it make more sense to just not go? I'm not expecting any of them to come up here for our stuff, why go there? Arrrrrrrrgh. Frigging family obligations. DH wants to go to it, DD has said she doesn't want to make the decision, naturally it comes down to whether I "do the right thing" -- DH's exact words.

I've been a scanning machine the past 2 days. So far I have well over 100 photos ready to put in my slideshow for the party, and I'm still scanning. It's going to be very, um, long. I may be tempted to upload a pic or two here while I'm doing.

Ah yes, this one seems highly appropriate. This is Mr. Jalapeno, which I won for Steph at some arcade game in Hershey Park. But it's the sign that really makes it a classic shot.

I  John Denver. Country roaaaaads take me hooooooome!

I spent the afternoon downtown with a male person who was over 13 and not my husband! Blogger friend from down south. We walked around and saw all the old churches and historic buildings and stuff and then ate a hamburger at that place where they'll give you a rare burger if you ask for it. My feet hurt soooooo much but mostly after I've been sitting down for a while or when I get out of bed in the morning. Friend had the exact same problem and said he went to the doc and was diagnosed with arthritis. Thank you SO much. Just what I need.

Hi to everyone!

Bagz!! Sounds like a fantastic trip! And you're going to the Newfie dog show? Why aren't you taking me? Wait a minute, is that a dog show in Newfoundland or a dog show with just Newfie dogs?

Sugar, god is punishing you for spending the day with a man over 13 who is not your husband... :judge:  Are you sure this isn't plantar fasciitis? Because symptoms are the same -- only difference might be where the pain is. Mine was so bad I hated to stand up at all for a while. It was very easy to cure, though. The main thing was putting heel cushioning in a sturdy pair of sneakers and wearing them most of the time for a few weeks. For something so unbelievably excruciating, it was a snap to get rid of. Lot easier than arthritis, for sure -- you should have it checked out to see.

So we went to the niece's graduation party yesterday. It rained cats and dogs all day. Especially dogs--the car smelled like wet dog all day. The ride was long and longer, and we had stopped in the big city to do some shopping for our party, so the car was full of cases of soda and water and bags of chips. So not the most comfortable ride, but it was a nice party. It was mostly family, plus friends of DN (dear niece), so it was actually more enjoyable than I had expected (I was thinking I would have to spend most of the time meeting friends of my half-sister's that I would never see again). All my father's kids were there except for bro in Calif., plus all their kids, plus step-mother, plus half-sis's inlaw family who are longtime friends of DH. DD got cards, gifts and $$ from her aunts and uncles, which was unexpected but rawther nice.

Today I'm still working on my photo slide show, and then I've got to make some food ahead for the party. Do you think I'll ever get around to cleaning this dump? My mother is arriving on Thursday, she's going to be horrified...

Baby care is for young ppl w/ lots of energy. She's adorable, but wow! I was sooo tired after babysitting just 2 days. I went home both Thursday and Friday afternoon and slept!!!!! I was going to take pictures, but I forgot my camera. She's changing so much every day.

Schatzi's sounding like her old cleanie self. I saved housework for Sunday afternoon. DH had gone fishing, and I'd worked myself to the boney fingers in the yard, but I knew if I came into the house and sat down, I'd never get back up. So I cleaned house like a mad woman and got it all done pretty much.

Saturday I went all by myself to the Schreiner's Iris Display Garden. I couldn't find anyone else who could go so I went alone. I think I may have been on a visit to heaven. Oh. My. God. It was so beautiful. I have pictures that I'll email you a few of, but I'll spare you sending all of them. I took 75 pictures. I wish I could send you all a whiff of the fragrance. It smelled so yummy. Then I made a side trip to the Heirloom Roses display garden. Once again, gorgeous, but Schreiner's had them beat.

Kiwi, I'm glad your family event turned out good.... and I'd like your advice... just how much is an appropriate amount to give a graduate for a gift???? I have one little gal I need to send a card w/ some $$$'s to and I don't have a clue.

. and I'd like your advice... just how much is an appropriate amount to give a graduate for a gift???? I have one little gal I need to send a card w/ some $$$'s to and I don't have a clue. Good question -- we've been struggling with that one. DH decided that all of DD's friends were getting checks for 20.06. If we were a bit more in the dough these days, I would prefer to give a bit more. DD has gotten amounts from $10 to $100, from relatives. Friends of the family have given her $25. Of course, some areas are a lot pricier and gifts might reflect that, but hopefully that gives you some idea.

Bagz, you're HiLarryAss. We are having nothing but rain here too. Very annoying. The sun comes out for a while, but not long enough to dry out the grass, which just keeps getting taller and taller.

Gotta go, school awards this afternoon, probably oughta shower so they don't throw me out of the auditorium.

Today is the day the 06-06-06 babies are born. There are already support groups for their moms who are worried about their kids being teased forever. No support groups for anyone worried that their baby is the antichrist however. Moms accept their children for what they are.

I need hand holding again. I need to fill out a job application and it's complicated and depresses me. I've been a tad stressed over the cashier job as this new manager person with not only NO personal skills but a NEGATIVE AMOUNT of personal skills called me into this and told me to sign a paper saying I'd been $20 short one day. I'm looking at the paper that says Unsatisfactory Job Performance; Could Lead to Termination, Etc. and asking her why this is the first I've heard of it. I look at the ledger everyday, I said, and haven't seen this. She says they probably didn't post this one.

I can't sign it, I say, until I have it straight in my head. Need to think about it. She offers to get the ledger and ... there it was ... $20 short ... but it was NOT ME> She held a ruler from money column to the cashier number column at an angle. She says, "Sorry. Sometimes my eyesight's not so good. You can go."

On the way out, I remarked that it was good I had questioned it, wasn't it? She didn't answer.

So now I totally don't trust her. The next day I had very little money in my til at the end of the day, could find no one to count it and explain, was totally freaking. They later found I had a $100 bill inside my checks. But it unnerves me.

Who is going to make me fill out the application????????

Some tourists will buy every single magazine featuring the movie stars with babies. That's People, Blonde People, Movie Star People, Slutty People, Us, Those We Wish Were Us, Those We Pretend Are Us, etc. It's so weird.
