Support Groups - In your 30's? No kids? Have 50 - 100 lbs to lose? A little crazy? May 2006

Welcome to the May version of our little support group. Feel free to join us - you don't really need to be in your 30's or have a lot to lose - as long as you are a bit crazy!

Anyway come on in, help yourself to fruit and pick a comfy chair. There's a treadmill in the corner if you fancy a bit of exercise or a bar serving only low cal drinks. Mine's a G+T. There's also a LOT of cats so if you are allergic I'd suggest stocking up on antihistamine!

Maybe we should stock some allergy meds next to the water cooler? Hehehee... yes, all my kids are furry! Come to think of it, so is my hubby... hmmm....

Two cups of coffee this morning and I still want to nap... wake up, Lala!

Happy Tuesday!

I'm reposting Chrissy's post over here...as it had a particularly good line about recording everthing that passed her lips!

good morning all! I've had a rather bummed out last few days. I weighed in on Sunday and gained .6lbs. I know it's only .6lbs and everything but I'm still a bit bummed about it. I was hoping not to gain and I had a really good week last week.

I'm back though...I've been writing down everything little thing that touches my lips...well....the food and drink anyway Hopefully that'll keep me on track this week. I'm doing WW (in case I didn't tell you that before) so I know I can do it if I just follow the points right.

Ok...i'm in a better mood. I've even changed up my routine. I usually have the same old toast for breakfast each and every morning since January....I've changed to....sit down for this one....bran flakes cereal with raisins and 2% milk....I know...I'm a wild one...watch out!!!

I'm hoping changing up my routine will help...do you guys have any meal ideas and that are tasty? I'm tired of eating the same old stuff....

Hope all is well for everyone....ttyl....

And now to my post!

Chrissy! - I did LOVE that line!

LALA - WAKE UP! did that help?

I'm off to the gym again today. Have finally found a bra that fits - almost! I've gone down from a 44F to a 37F...they don't even do 37's! It annoying because my cup size is still enormous. I'll be looking like Pamela Anderson if I'm not careful! (Yeah sure you will ;) )

Well, I'm an awful cook, so we still eat out too much and when I cook it's the same old boring stuff...

For breakfast though, I alternate with:
-oatmeal w/variety of add-ins (peanut butter, cinnamon & raisin, walnuts & bananas, berries - and always a tbsp of protein powder)
-high fiber cereal (Uncle Sam or Grape Nuts) and peanut butter toast
-omelet (1 real egg, 1 egg white) with veggie-pattie sausage (not particularly fantastic, but it works when I really crave sausagey breakfast)
-rarely, buckwheat pancakes and a fried egg (and sugar free syrup)

My favorite dinner lately is broiling a steak or a London Broil roast with some petite red potatoes. I boil the potatoes first, coat them with nonfat butter spray and parsley or rosemary if I can find it, then dump them into aluminum foil and broil them for about 10 minutes with the beef. Add a glass of pinot or chiraz and I'm a happy camper! Oh, and of course, some form of veggie... green beans or a salad. I should try that with some kind of chicken and... hmmm... what for seasoning? I could try cajun or chipotle, that would be nice. Then broil the potatoes and maybe some zuccini.... yum...

Other than that I do the occasional stir fry with lots of veggies. I also do chicken enchiladas about every other week, but that's not so healthy.... too much cheeeeeeeeeeessssssssssseeeeeeeeeeeeee....

Then we go out for sushi a lot!

Hehehee...

Yum! Stop talking about foods you are making me hungry! Over here we have a traditional sunday roast - roast beast, roast potato's and lots and lots of veg. Its the veg that helps you convince yourself its healthy! I am planning one later. Hurrah for sunday!

Am very chirpy today as I've finally lost another pound and am on a round 40 pounds lost!!!! How cool is that? Feels like a goodly amount.

Anyway am off to do some work - I tell you having two jobs is a bit crazy :dizzy: I don't even do it because I need the money (although it doesn't hurt) but because I love tarot reading! Had to work all day yesterday for my other job and now have loads of tarot readings. Busy busy.

Wow, good work Claire! Forty pounds is great! :dancer: Boogie on with your bad self.... It's good that you have something like tarot that you love and can do for a living! So many people, myself included, work to live instead of love to work. I'm hoping when I'm further along in school and can get a writing job that I'll be happy at work, doing something I love...

Hope ya'll are having a great (and healthy) weekend!

I still feel a little stuck... I had gotten down to 254 then screwed up and shot back up to 259, so I've been slowly re-losing the same 5 pounds for the past couple of weeks. I'm 255 today, though, and TOM is about gone, so I should see a happy number in time for my Wednesday weigh-in. Yay!

I should also be able to start working in the next week or so, if I can just pass the bleeping typing test. I went Friday to take it and really messed up. At home I can type 65 or 70 wpm pretty easily, but I got there and could barely make 60 wpm... really ticked me off! I'm going to try again this week... wish me luck!

Woo hoo! I finally passed the typing test yesterday, so I went to finish up the paperwork and take the drug test, which will be fine. So, once the red tape and paperwork clears up I should be working by early next week! Relief!

Hurrah! Well done! Was posting earlier to ask how you had done but had to work..the cheek of it! Am very glad.

Am a bit stressed today - have very noisy neighbours and asked them to keep it down last night. Their dad is away and its two kids approx 16 and 18. Anyway later I heard fighting next door, furniture going over etc and then the kid was outside our door shouting 'I'm going to stab them/him.' Can't tell whether it was them or him. Anyhoo, now we dont know whether he wanted to stab his brother or us! Not the best feeling I can tell you.

AND have been told my job (not the tarot job my other bill paying one) is not secure so moving isn't looking very possible at the moment.

Hmmm...I'm sure things will look better tomorrow.

Claire x

ps well done again!

Oooo, good luck with the work situation. My hubby used to work for a different division of his company and we had to agonize through potential layoffs about every other month. It was horrible! Fortunately he always avoided the hammer, but every time it was knots in the tummy...

Keep me posted!

Hello! Hello! Hello!

Sorry have been a bit quiet. Me and the fella have decided to move so my getting a permenant job is more important than before! I've got an application in so we'll see. I've also been doing lots of tarot readings as I've had an offer on readings.

Weight wise still STILL havent had TOM to visit so am getting bored. Its not that unusual for me to be a week or so late but if this goes through to the weekend I'm buying a pregnancy test! ARGH!

Anyhoo, fella has just cooked tea as I've been working upstairs on my readings...better go!

How's everyone else??? Lala have you started work yet?

Hi Crime Girl! Definitely come on in and welcome! No kids... any pets? :)

Coley - Yep, started work this morning. It's not bad... maybe a touch on the boring side. Lots of paper, lots and lots of paper. But the hours are so very flexible that I can deal with that for a long time. I'll be able to take my classes whenever I need to and still have a job around that. Yay!

Good luck with your search and I hope you get plenty of readings to do in the meantime...

Hi Crime girl - you are very welcome. Tell us a bit about yourself...

Lala - Glad the job is ok. They all have boring bits you know...I bet even lion tamers get a bit bored sometimes!

Me I'm still awaiting TOM. 6 weeks and counting now since his last visit...I think its unlikely that I'm pregnant - more likely just my wierdo hormones but its very annoying as I want losses dammit!

Hello everyone... mind if I join in. I found the other thread and read it all, then found the May section. You guys had me rolling in my seat at times. I think I would fit right in. My name is Rebecca. I am 31, a wee bit crazy at times, am about 151 lbs from my goal, a widow, no kids. I do have a 13 year old cat, Allie, and a 6 year old schnouzer/yorkie mix named Little Bit. When my husband died 4 years ago, i was at my highest weight, 321. It was a hard marrage and, like most stress eaters, I ate to deal with it. In the 3 years we were married I gained almost 100 lbs. When he died, I lost that 100 in a little over a year. Then numbness wore off, as well as a free loading boyfriend later on, and the scales started to rise again, back up to 288. I am now on my way back down again.
I just moved to St louis to be closer to my boyfriend( not the freeloader). I have never been with such a great person. I almost do not know how to react to someone who is nice and doesn't put me down. He is the first person I have ever been with that accepts me for me, regardless. But he also encourages me to work out and eat healthy.
I am joining a support group here because I need to talk to women. LOL. I have been here a 6 weeks and love him dearly but I am having a hard time being isolated all the time. I don't know many people here yet and The job search is taking longer than i thought. He did sign me up for a membership at his gym and paid for 10 personal training sessons to get me started. Isn't sweet of him. My personal Trainer, Jen, is so nice. She pushes me and is shocked that I can keep up. She never fails to encourage me when i do well. I have been going to the gym 5-6 days a week for the last 2 weeks. At least i have no excuse not to work out. :)
Well, now that I have rattled on hopefully you won't mind me being here. lol
Have a great day and keep up the fantastic work ladies!!

Rebecca - you are very welcome! Sounds like you've had the sort of life that'd send you crazy! I put on lots of weight in a bad relationship too, never lost it afterwards of course! Now my guy is lovely to me, I kept expecting him to turn out to be horrible but its 3 years in July so I'm figuring he's just wonderful! He likes girls with a fuller figure but he's really supportive of me losing weight. Best of both worlds really! Anyway tell us about this guy of yours..and how are you getting on at the gym?

Lala - You're working too hard!

Well I did a test and it is just my crazy hormones being tricksy. Which is a good thing - I do want to have a kid but not until I shift some more weight - I dont want to go back to where I have been! So all is good and I am having wine tonight - because I can! xxx

Hi Songbird, and welcome to our little corner! I kind of know how you feel about the isolation. I quit my job in December to go back to school. I do have a couple of girlfriends in town but they live on opposite sides of the city from me, so during the week while my hubby was at work and then at night school, I spent a lot of time at home alone. I got awfully tired of talking to the cats! When any of our friends would come for a visit on the weekend they would always laugh at me because I turned into such a chatterbox as soon as I saw them... it was so great to talk to someone who could talk back! I finally started a part time job this past week, partially to start contributing to the household again, but partially just to be able to interact with other people...

Hi Coley! Sigh... You are so right, I am too busy... I dropped one of my classes for the summer, it was just way too much work for a six week semester. I spent three or four hours doing homework EVERY SINGLE night last week - and barely got the last assignment in by midnight on Friday. This morning I took some time to look over what's due next week and I just started crying. I couldn't even think about handling all that, so I logged on to the University website and dropped out of the writing class. I'll take it in the Spring term instead, when it's a 12 week class.

Also, I worked about 30 hours at my new job last week, getting used to things, but from here on out I'll probably only get about 20 hours, unless something big comes up and they need me a bit more. I'll have Wednesday off in the middle of the week to catch up and take care of stuff around the house and grocery shop and such. Part of me is bummed that I'll not get the extra income, I was hoping to get in a lot of hours (and pay!) this summer, but part of me is relieved that I'll have some time to concentrate on the mass of homework that I will still have. (I still spent about three hours on homework today and am only about halfway done with the stuff that's due on Monday. And all this is for the ONE class that I kept, not including the one I dropped....)

I just got my blood pressure under control I really don't need all of this STRESS!! :D

Sorry about the venting, I know I'm just a big baby! :stress:

Thanks all for the welcome. Sorry it has been a few days since I posted. I had a very busy weekend. A friend of mine got married this weekend and I had to sing in the wedding. It went well, but let me tell you if I get married again it will be a lot more organized than that one was. LOL

Coley- LOL i could write a book about my life. The stores I could tell. I have been through so much. Thank God I was given a positive attitude at birth. LOL
My bf, Tim, is a sweetie. He works for SBC/AT&T. He is such a great guy and we are perfect for each other. I have never had this close of a relationship with someone. He is 32, he has two boys from previous marrages. ( i know 2 previous marrages sounds bad but he always seams to pick woman who want to hurt him instead of love him). Anyway his boys live with thier mothers. I have met one of them and we get along fine, but i haven't met his 2nd ex.. but she sounds horrid.

lala- Yea the isolation does get to you. My poor dog is prolly getting tired of me talking to him while he tries to sleep all day.:D And my friends can relate to the chatterbox I have become as well. I call them, and they are ready to get off the phone before I am. LOL I just applied for a part time job at the local video store just to get me by until I hear from the Big job i am looking for.

Well it is Monday and I am back on track. I am headed to the gym and I will post my progress for the week tonight. I haven't been to the gym since Wed, my back hurt so bad. It feels better now. SO i am taking it slow. I hope everyone had a great weekend. Be back tonight with news.. let's hope I still lost even though i didn't exercise much.
TTFN!!

Where is everyone?? DId i scare ya away?:p I hope everyone had a good weekend.
OK, I made it to the gym and back last night. I work for an hour using weights on my upper body with my personal trainer. Then I walked hills on the treadmill for 35 min at 3.0-3.3 mph. I weighed and I lost 2 lbs. That is pretty good considering I did not work out from Thurs to Monday. I was hoping it was more... but it will be this week.
Well, since no one is around I will check back later. Have a good one! We do can do this!!

OOHhh I am so annoyed! I posted a really REALLY long reply yesterday and its not here! Its those pixies again!

Lets try again...

Welcome to everyone. Please make yourselves at home. Put your feet up and I'll make some cocktails (low cal obviously).

Gods Songbird - Gotta ask..why the name? Do you have a wonderful voice?

RebaR - We're not picky about the age policy. Tell us about yourself..

Fatt Lady - Hello! You're around about the same weight I was when I started. My advice would be whatever you do just keep going.

Anyway my previous post was far more witty and entertaining but this one will have to do!

So my challenge to you all is:

What's your favourite joke?

Mine is:

Two goldfish in a tank. One turns to the other and says
'Do you know how to drive this thing?'

:)

GodsSongbird74
05-25-2006, 08:56 AM
I had the same problem with my post.. the pixies you say, huh?? Hummmm.. Sound like they were really acting up yesterday.

My name was given to me from some friends on another site about 6 months after my husband died. I went on a camping trip with a bunch of people from there. Well I was singing in the shower and while I was getting ready for the day. I didn't know that it could be heard through the walls in the men's shower as well. Well one guy told another and then the ladies heard them discussing it. SO they were listening to me and I had no clue. LOL I ended up getting drafted to lead the singing when we had our sunday morning church service. Anyway, when we got back and was posting about the trip, they started calling me that and it kinda stuck. I also sang in a christian band before I moved to St louis. SO I guess the answer to this long drawn out responce is yes. I have a nice voice and love to sing. LOL
Up until now I could never say that without thinking I was vain. Which i am clearly not..lol I have always been very self concious. I can't figure out why being an overweight woman would effect how I feel about a talent. I was watching The finale to American Idol last night and Mandesa was back with the rest of the top 12. I was thinking to myself, she is a lot larger then I am and she has the confidince to use her voice. Why can't I? I have a feeling she has been encouraged in some way or another all her life.. Anywhoo....

La la.. Are you drowning in a mountain of school work? Haven't seen you much lately. Just wanted to let you know you are missed. Post when you can!

Coley.. To be honest I can't think of a joke. lol I remember when i was five I had a favorite joke. I used to go around asking everyone the joke...
"what room can no one enter......... a mushroom." :joker: Apparently my sence of humor hasn;t changed in the last 25 years.. lol

So to the newbies.. tell us all about you. Fell free to ramble about any topic you like..

Talk to you soon.

Hey y'all

Greetings from LA... lower Alabama that is :dizzy: I posted very briefly the other day and thank you all for the welcome...

more about me...do you really want to know? Well, like I posted the other day... I'm 40, single no kids... Though I started working in the school system here last fall and so I have lots of "kids" and there's also all my nieces and nephews... and their kids...but none of my own. This summer I am working at a day camp from 7:30 to 12:30. This is the first week and it has been a challenge. There are more boys than girls... the coordinator wants reading and crafts and.... of course the boys just want to play ball- any kind of ball- baseball, basketball, wall ball, dodge ball.. you name it... the 9 - 12 year olds have been most challenging... I am having a hard time coming up with crafts that they like! ahhh...

the weekend is almost here... I'm going camping with a friend. We'll leave as soon as I get off tomorrow and head to the woods. We also plan on heading to the beach for one of the days since it's a long weekend. We couldn't get reservations at a campground at the beach... oh well, we'll have fun whereever we are!

What are your plans for the weekend?

GodSongbird: I lived in St. Louis when I was a kid... we moved to alabama way back in 1980...

Hi all!

Reba - I know this isn't crafty, but my 9 year old nephew used to like making up "movies" and acting them out for us with his friends. Always action movies, of course! I guess you could have them craft bits of costume and props...

Songbird- So far I'm staying on top of the schoolwork, yay! But now that I'm staring all day at a PC doing data entry, and then doing another couple of hours or so of homework on the PC when I get home, my eyes get really messed up by the end of the week - so I am not on the boards as much now. I have that anti-glare stuff on my glasses and I use eye drops, but right now my eyes feel like they are full of sand. Drives me crazy! I am due to go get my eyes checked soon, I guess I should make the appointment, huh? :o

I'm terrible at jokes, but I heard a good geek joke recently: If you aren't a part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate.

Happy Thursday!

I have been bad. HAven't been exercising or eating well. :o I don't know what my problem is. I did so well when we were on vacation! Maybe its work! I truely think it is! Flady - I know I dropped 10 pounds right off the bat after leaving my last job. There was always something irresistible in the breakroom, usually homemade or in a Dunkn' Donuts box, grrr.... Or we had enough people that it was somebody's birthday every other week... And then there was the snack machine with the Famous Amos tiny little cookies... so tiny you can convince yourself that they won't really hurt... LIES LIES!!! :D So, yeah, survival techniques for the snack situation will be imperative!

Mornin Ladies!

If we could all just speak a little bit quieter today that'd be good. I have a teenie tiny touch of a headache..nothing, absolutely nothing, to do with the murder mystery dinner party I had last night.

I was a nun but was disappointed to discover that I wasn't the murderer! Still I also managed to cook a healthy-ish dinner for 8 people...lentil soup for starter, pasta in tomato sauce for main with salad and baked apples for pudding. There might, however, have been a bit of alcohol consumed...not by me I hasten to add...well not MUCH by me. ;)

Anyway I'm off to drink lots of water. Love to you all!

Hi everyone!

Thanks for the jokes. I liked them! A mushroom...LOL

Am feeling much better today - no hangover at all! It also FINALLY brought along TOM as well. Only er...3-4 weeks late! Its all good. Havent lost a pound as yet - we'll see after TOM- but measured myself and have lost lots more inches - a total of 28.5 since I started! I've lost 4.5 inches off my waist, 6 off my arms (I can't get over this..6!), 5.5 inches off my knee, 2 off my belly (yes it is still HUGE!), 2 off my calf and finally...8.5 off my bust (measured under the boob). That's some serious inches!

Sooo..lets carry onwards shall we ladies? Onwards and lesswards?

Good Morning on this bright and beautiful Memorial monday morning!! ;) Whew... say tht 3 times fast!:chin:
Sorry I haven't written this weekend. The BF's kids were here and his boys were wired all weekend. If only we could bottle that energy! Had to really keep an eye on them.
Great news to post though. I just weighed in and I am down another 2.5 lbs. (check out the tracker) I was sure I did badly this weekend. I was so busyso I didn't even track this weekend. I automatically assume I did badly cause I don't know where I was. Sigh. Why am I so hard on myself? Anyway, that is 5down in 2 weeks. Yahoo!!!!!!
Guess what I decided to do this weekend? I signed up for a 5k walk. I am going to walk in the 5k, 2 weeks from now for the Walk for the Cure breast cancer walk. I haven't done that sort of thing in years. It is 3 miles, I should be able to walk 3 miles. I just reached that on my treadmil last week.
Coley- How's the headache? Wow a murder mystery dinner. That sounds like so much fun I have never been to one. How hard was it to host it? Did you have to write it yourself?
Well, as you can see, it si still early. Just because I can sleep in this morning doesn't mean the dog will let me. His clock tells him he has to go to the bathroom no later 6:00 LOL SO i am gonna try and lay down for a little longer. Stayed up late last night watching "the Majestic".
Keep up the fabulous work and I will talk to you later!

Hey Y'all,

Sorry I've been MIA  ... I left Friday afternoon as soon as I got home from work and went camping:spin: ... My friend and I love to camp.:jig: We're both unattached and rather than sit home wanting to go, we load up and go... try to go once a month...ahhh....

Anyway, we headed to a park in Florida and didn't get home until tonight. We hiked Saturday and then Sunday drove down to the beach (just over an hour from the campground we were at). It was a hot weekend-mid to upper 90's  so we didn't hike as much as usual... a thunderstorm came in last night- we heard the thunder and saw the lightning as we prepared dinner, so we put the raincap back on the tent, got everything covered and headed over to the rec room at the campground to wait out the storm. This particular campground was originally part of a CCC camp and one of the original barracks is used as the office and a rec room... it's open all the time. Once the worst of the storm was over we went back to the tent and fell asleep to the rain hitting the tent... ahhhh..... it really was a great weekend...

Hope y'all had a great memorial day weekend.

Thanks to all our military personal for giving us the freedoms we have!

Reba

Hi folks, just checking back in. Some of you may remember me--I was one of the originals! But, I've been off packing on the pounds. Sigh.

But, I'm back and starting again!!!!!!!!!

Way to go Coley!! I love it when inches come off as well. It can be very frustraiting when the scale gets stuck, at least we can be encouraged by our clothes fitting better, or falling off whichever may be the case. LOL
Reba, that sounds like so much fun. I used to live in Jacksonville and I would go camping in South Carolina sometimes. It is a bit of a drive but the state park there on the edge is beautiful. All that hiking is good exercise. Glad to hear you had a good time.
Welcome back beginme!! I am fairly new to the board but i love it here. Hope to see you again soon.

GodsSongbird- A 5k walk? Good for you! And congrats on the losses. You're doing really well!

Beginme - Of course we remember you! How you doing? Did ya fall off that wagon? The good thing is it just runs alongside you until you hop back on again.

RebaR - stupid question from someone from England but what's Memorial Day memorialising?

Lala and Fatt Lady - You two finished scrapping yet? ;)

Well have finished TOM and await the verdict tomorrow mornin. If there's nout doing then I might take the plunge and get all strict with myself. I havent gone over calories at all but some have been rather empty lately..Ahhh....gotta love those empty calories.... :)

I am feeling it today. I had my personal training sesson last night form 4 to 5. SHe worked my upper body and abs hard. Then while I was waiting on my bf to do his workout, I walked hills on the treadmill for an hour at 3mph. Well, he was working on abs when i finished that so i did another half hour of abs with him. I am feeling it today. Whew!! But it feels good to be able to do all that and not feel like i am dying. LOL
Speaking of PT, guess what my bf did? The gym I am going to is having a 10 week challenge for anyone who wanted to sign up. My boyfriend has decided to enter me since I have been working so hard. It is $300. for 10 personal training sessons(1 per week) and help through out the contest. They help you train, give nutritional advice, and help encourage and monitor your progression. Grand prize a Cruise for two. The good thing about the contest is they are not judging by looks. They are judging by how hard you work in that ten weeks. You set goals with your trainer and the person who works the hardest and gets the closest to thier goals wins. There are lots of prizes they are giving out, but I would love to go on a cruise. They take in to consideration how many times you went to the gym during the week outside of your PT time, how close you came to your goals, how reasonable they were. Since I am in there at least 4-6 times a week, it shouldn't be a problem . Now I am have just a little more insentive to work harder. I don't wanna waste his money. LOL
Well I hope everyone is having a great start today and I will check back in later. Keep up the great work everyone!!!!
