Default South Beach & Nursing

I've had some success with South Beach diet in the past and would like to start a somewhat modified version of that soon to try and lose some weight. I'm nursing so of course I need to make sure I eat enough, and I also want to make sure I get enough calcium.... so, wondering if anyone has done SB while nursing and lost weight? Obviously I won't even bother with Phase 1 at all - far too restrictive - but is just Phase 2 going to give me enough calories/nutrients? I'm worried about having milk supply problems.

If you're concerned about it, keep track of your eating for a few days and make sure you're eating enough calories. You should be fine, though, since SB is so healthy. I wouldn't use the menus in the book, though. I didn't do the math for Phase Two, but I know that Phase One's menus averaged about 1200 calories, and that's on the low side even if you're not nursing, IMO. I wouldn't count on Phase Two to be much better.

Thanks. I was looking at the menus and thinking, this is NOT enough food! LOL I seem to end up only having time to eat "real" food after 6 p.m. lately - it's pretty much grab & eat what I can quickly during the rest of the day, so I need to stock up on healthier snacks than cereal bars. :P

That's why I keep a bowl of fruit on the table. I go by it everytime I'm in the kitchen, and there's something about watching paid for fruit rot before your very eyes to get you to choose from the bowl before going for the cereal bar.

The original cookbook (I haven't seen the new one) has some truly great appetizer/snack recipes in it. If you take a little time at the beginning of the week to make up things to snack on throughout the week, I think it pays off (at least, it does whenever I remember to ). As far as fruit, I love apples because the only preparation needed there is a quick washing. I'm bad about not wanting to eat stuff that takes a lot of effort to prepare.
