My approach was simple - I started eating foods that would make me healthy, started avoiding foods that wouldn't make me healthy. I started doing a lot of planning, doing a lot of shopping, kept a food journal, counted calories, only weighed myself once a week, worked out, got plenty of sleep, tried to drink more water.
It took 18 months, but I went from 195+ to 130 lbs. I gave up a ton of food forever (fast food, sugar baked goods, fried foods, chips) but I feel absolutely incredible, so much energy. I love to eat - I was surprised to find out that I love healthy food just as much as I ever loved bad food. I love sun dried tomato hummus, baked sweet potatoes, non fat lattes, roasted vegetables, natural peanut butter on whole grain toast. I made changes that I could live with forever and this week marks my 1 week anniversary of maintaining my weight loss.
Good luck to you - I know very well how it feels to want it so badly. Once I finally figured it out, it was amazing to me how easy it was.
