Hi and welcome. I want you to go here .... http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=169

TFL stands for thin for life and it's a book a lot of us adore! I want you to read through the threads about each chapter. Then come back and tell us a bit more about you. What you like to eat and do. I'm going to have a look at your fitday. OK?

My approach was simple - I started eating foods that would make me healthy, started avoiding foods that wouldn't make me healthy. I started doing a lot of planning, doing a lot of shopping, kept a food journal, counted calories, only weighed myself once a week, worked out, got plenty of sleep, tried to drink more water.

It took 18 months, but I went from 195+ to 130 lbs. I gave up a ton of food forever (fast food, sugar baked goods, fried foods, chips) but I feel absolutely incredible, so much energy. I love to eat - I was surprised to find out that I love healthy food just as much as I ever loved bad food. I love sun dried tomato hummus, baked sweet potatoes, non fat lattes, roasted vegetables, natural peanut butter on whole grain toast. I made changes that I could live with forever and this week marks my 1 week anniversary of maintaining my weight loss.

Good luck to you - I know very well how it feels to want it so badly. Once I finally figured it out, it was amazing to me how easy it was.

I'd tried and failed to lose weight many times before. The biggest difference this time I think is that I committed to a long term goal (being fitter when I turn 50 than I was when I turned 40), and am able to consistently remind myself WHY I am doing this -- especially when confronted with foods I love. Today it was brownies and I almost gave in when I smelled them, but I know that I have a kind of big calorie dinner planned tonight and that both won't fit, so I passed.

I also started with baby steps. First just portion control, then, after about a month., counting calories and writing things down. Then I started monitoring WHAT I ate and trying to eat more balanced foods and getting more exercise. It has been about making new habits -- changes I can keep for life. Steps like cooking more healthy foods at home and bringing healthy lunches and snacks to work. Joining a gym; adding weight lifting...

There is no magic pill. It takes consistency and commitment.
