South Beach Diet - Monday's Mumbo Jumbo

View Full Version : Monday's Mumbo Jumbo

03-06-2006, 05:31 AM
Well it's Monday again and I cannot pretend that this is a good thing. The weekend was wonderfull but as I always say, never long enough. I sat at my sister's house in her kitchen and realized that I had been sitting there for an hour doing absolutely nothing. It was such a great feeling to relax for the sake of relaxing.

My son and I never made it to the movie but I took him to rent one. He picked Power Rangers - bummer for me. I sat on the couch and suffered through the Power Ranger Movie as best I could without complaint. Man, that stuff is terrible!!!! Royce loved the movie...of course.

I have two nieces and had one of them sleep over at my house each night which was fun and we also went out to eat, the family, all twelve of us to a local Italian Restaurant for my sister's 39th birthday. For a weekend where I thought I had no ended up action packed. But it was fun and I will look forward to the next one.

What I wouldn't give for a rich husband - lol (but seriously folks...I'm here all evening - did ya here the one about...)

Well. thats enough of my Mumbo Jumbo for the morning - sombody stop me!!! What's up in your neck of the woods?

03-06-2006, 07:05 AM
Morning Freaky.....I wish I could go back to bed. I stayed up last night doing my taxes & they are still wrong! Darn Turbo tax.....grrr!
My sister has conned me into making her 4 tier wedding cake (which I have NEVER made a wedding cake before!) I went to Borders yesterday reading up on it - holy smokes.....lots involved. I'm slowly gathering materials and I'll do a test cake in May when I'm home visiting! Oh and I'm doing scrapbooks for her reception and I'm in charge of the bridal shower (what the.....) AND my sister nominated my fiancee to video tape her wedding. I asked her if she had a video camera....of course not. So it looks like he will be using my dvd recorded....sounds like I don't have to go shopping for a wedding present, but I do need to learn the word "NO!"
I'm off to work this morning & I have a AVON meeting tonight (maybe I'll leave work early?)
What's going happening on your beach towel today?

03-06-2006, 07:08 AM
Good morning, Freaky! I'll pass you a steaming mug in a few minutes. :coffee: It sounds like you had a great weekend.

We had lots of dog company over the weekend. My neighbour Moel split me some more wood and his wee Yorkie, Kirby, came in to play with the Girls. Too funny as he runs right under their legs. Another neighbour, Vivian, came in with her 10 week old Shar-Pei. That's not my favourite breed but it sure was a cute puppy. Lucy must have her mothering instincts perked up because she kept licking the little guy.

I did manage to get some sewing finished and my assigned painting nearly done. I have my class this afternoon and had nothing to show for critique.

This morning I'll do a bit more painting and also vacuum downstairs. Lucy seems to be losing a lot of fur so we have Portie dust bunnies.

Woofing has begun. I guess they know it's a sardines and broccoli breakfast today as I forgot to thaw their food! Yick!

Back later.

Soon - Wow - your sister sounds like she is very lucky that your her sister.

Morning Chicks,

Soon - Your sister asound like she's turned into bridezilla...or has she always been that demanding?

Freaky - glad you had a relaxing weekend. We did the same here and it was heaven.

Ruth - Have a great day!

We had a really quiet weekend here which was so refreshing. Both DH and I stayed OP for the weekend and he helped me cook up a bunch of stuff yesterday so at least the first few nights of the week dinner is pretty much taken care of. I just need to pick up some salad stuff at the store today and we'll be set.

Have a good day Chicks!

03-06-2006, 07:36 AM
Good Morning,

Freaky ~ Weekends always fly by too fast. Glad you had a ood one.

Soon ~ What a good sister you are, willing to do all that! Will she be willing to help you out when it's your turn?

Ruth ~ I'm hoping you are going to post some examples of your paintings for us, pretty please?

Kelly ~ Your DH sounds like a wonderful guy, helping you cook! Mine only knows how to use the microwave!

I'm off to Curves, then have a few errands to run before work, so I'll be in and out at least for this morning. I'm hoping Cindy can take the girls to their swim lessons this evening - that will mean I get to come home early!

03-06-2006, 08:14 AM
Cottage - NO way will my sister help me......I'm more of a Martha Stewart she more of a Jessica Simpson (you know is this chicken or tuna....I know it's tuna but it says chicken of the sea...)
In my research though, I have my cake & my groom's cake already designed/planned out.

I can't even say Good Morning. My son is still sick and I have had it with this stuff. HE has asmatha and he is on 3 daily medications. HE has taken an antonibic, a steriod and cough medicine for the last month and still very sick. I am calling out today, just going in to do my time card and beeper stuff then pick up my middle child from preschool then take my oldest to the doctors and sit there until he does something. I have had it. HE is a great doctor but does he know what my son is going through. SO on top of that I haven't lost in a month. SO as stubburn as I am hoping I could follow my own diet it is not working. I found some sample diets online so I am starting on today! I can't go this slow forever so I am starting a new one. Wish me luck!!!!
WEll have to get the day started, I will pop back in later and let you all know how BRady is doing. My goal for today is to take time for me. After I take Keegan to school, get my work doen I should have about 1 hour. I am going to nap (safely) in the tanning booth!!!! Hip hip horray. I can't wait.
Have a gret OP day everyone!

03-06-2006, 09:16 AM
Good morning, chicks! Well, Yesterday I weighed in and had put on 4 lbs since right before TOM started. I'm almost done and this morning I lost one of the pounds. I usually drop most of my water weight within a day or two of it being over so I'm not too worried. This month has just been a really bad swollen bloated one, more so than normal. Anyway!!

Last night I had pesto pork chops, the center cut tenderloin ones. Really good, I just followed the recipe (if you can call it that its so easy) in the yellow cookbook but used pork instead of chicken. It's better with chicken but it was still ok. NOt sure what to have for b'fast but it needs to be quick since I'm running late this morning.

Sorry no time to respond to everyone but have a fabulous day, my fellow beachies!!

03-06-2006, 09:24 AM
Good morning chicks! I just wanted to post a quick 'hi' before I run out the door. I've got a meeting at 9:30. After which, I plan on coming home and either running on the treadmill or doing Tae Bo. Then we've got laundry to start, grocery shopping to do, and brownies to make. I have another meeting at 6:30 and everybody has to bring a dessert. I dread it, not because of the temptation but because I'm so sick of sweets. It was mine and my husband's birthdays on Thursday and Friday and I am so sick of cake. I didn't eat that much but I guess I'm just not used to so much sugar. It made me feel jittery and sick to my stomach. I think I'll stick to water and almonds tonight.
Well, I'm off. I'll check back later.

03-06-2006, 09:43 AM
Good morning chicks!!

Mama  You should so frustrated- rightfully so. I hope you get some answers and that your son get some relief at the doctor's today.

Ruth I would love to see some of your artwork as well!!

Cottage Is Cindy your daughter? She is so lucky to have you! I don't know what I would do without my mom close. She is such a help to me with my daughters. They have a great relationship with her, which I just adore.

Soon My word- you are going to be busy!! I think that you can not only nix the wedding gift, but birthdays and Christmas for the next few years!

Pear, Freaky, Kelly, and US Good morning!!

Slept in until 7:15 this morning. It felt great! I am a bit tired though- DH and I watched the Oscars and then stayed up to watch a movie. We actually watched Crash- it won Best Picture.

Lots of cleaning needs to occur today! DD is having one of her little friends for a sleepover. The girl's parents left this morning for a cruise, so I offered to help by keeping her tonight. It should be fun as the two get along really well.

DH is home again today- yesterday turned out to be a great day. Very relaxing and just time together. We took the girls to the park and I walked 2 miles- that felt awesome!! :running:

More caw-fee for this chick is needed...... back later!

03-06-2006, 09:46 AM
Good Morning Ladies!

Mama- Hope your son is doing better, I am sorry to hear about all that is going on with him.

Glad to see that most everyone had a decent weekend. On Saturday I wrote my last 2 papers for my online class, and now I am done. I just have to wait to get my final grades. What a huge relief. I am going back to school but, I am taking it extremely slow, because I have never been a school person. I babysat for my three cousins on Saturday night and cheated bad. They ordered breadsticks and salad from a pizza place, and I went crazy eating a ton of breadsticks. I am pretty mad:mad: at myself for giving in so easily. Hopefully it is just the fact that my "friend" is visiting whether it be MARGARET OR TOM. I am bloated and lost most of my motivation. After a lazy weekend:( , I feel better now that it's Monday and I back on schedule, but hopefully I can get back in the swing of things. Hope everyone has a great and stress free day.:)

03-06-2006, 09:48 AM
Good morning everyone! Sorry I've been awol this weekend but I never had a chance to get online one time. My weekend was filled with Girl Scout activities. On Saturday we had a cookie booth sale here at my work and it was cold and very windy but we sold 82 boxes so it was worth it! Then about an hour after I got home from the cookie sale we went to dinner at a friend's house where I was completely off plan for dinner but we had a good time. Sunday we had Sunday School then it was off to World Thinking Day for the Girl Scouts. I didn't get home until almost 5pm. It was a long afternoon but Abby had a good time.

So today I'm back at work and I'm starting to feel like I'm coming down with a cold. I think I'm just tired though. Whenever I let myself get too tired I start with flu like symptoms.

Freaky - Glad you had a good weekend with your son and your family.

soon2Bfab - Wow, wedding cakes are a big undertaking! Good luck!

Ruth - When will you know for sure if your dog is pregnant?

Kelly - My husband does not cook anything unless it's frozen pizza or hot dogs on the grill!

Mama - Sorry to hear about your son. It is very frustrating when nothing is working and your child just isn't getting any better. Hope you get some new answers today.

Cottage,Pear,umschoney - Have a great day!

Well, I guess I'd better get to work. My in-laws are leaving on Wednesday for Florida and I want our bills done before then.

03-06-2006, 09:55 AM
Those chicks whose husband's don't cook- don't feel too bad! My husband is a chef, culinary arts school and all, and doesn't cook a thing at home! :chef: He complains that it is all he does all day, so doesn't want to come home and do it. Sounds like a lame excuse to me!

03-06-2006, 10:10 AM
Aaahh...weekends are pointless for me lately. They aren't restful, I eat HORRIBLY, and drink practically no water. I might as well be at work, where I'm vaguely disciplined.

Normally, the weekends just see me eating far less than I do on a typical weekday. This weekend, I discovered two new SB-friendly dessert treats -- Blue Bunny fruity creme pops and fudge pops. Both are sugar-free and fat-free and have 70 calories apiece. What do I do? Eat too many of them! Far beyond my sweets allowances. But they were so good!

I still lost weight on my weigh-in this morning, down about 2.5 pounds. It probably won't stick, though. :?:

Hope everyone's doing great. I'll be WICKED(!) busy today at work, so no time to linger!...................

03-06-2006, 10:30 AM
Good morning everyone!

Mama, What a worry for you about your son! I hope that you get the help you need at the doctor's this afternoon.

Freaky , My son (now 13) used to watch those horrible Power Rangers shows years ago. I thought they were the most boring and poorly done things ever, but he loved them.:?:

Well, I still haven't gone to the YMCA, plus last night at work I ate 6 truffles. I am blaming it on PMS. 220 calories, 32 carbs. :(

Ruth I am going to buy the silicone muffin pan for sure! I think the whole idea of baking in that squishy pan is too good to resist anyway. :D

Hope you all have a wonderful day!:carrot:

03-06-2006, 10:36 AM
Mamahulk ~ I hope you get some answers regarding your son's prolonged illness. I don't blame you for your anger and fustration, I'd be demanding some better treatment, too.

Hi Pearsy, bella, 3darlingsm, usmchoney, Kiko, and Sunlit!

Kiko ~ No, Cindy isn't my daughter. She's a good friend of mine who's a veterinarian and very active in Polo and Fox Hunting. When she started a family, I started taking care of the girls whenever she needed a sitter, and this past summer she begged me to become a full-time nanny for them. I adore the girls, they're as close to me as my own grandchildren, and they call me their "surrogate grandma."

03-06-2006, 10:48 AM
Maureen, be sure to put the pan on a tray or you'll have an oven disaster! I think Sears has a 12 cup one with a metal rack to hold it firm. They were
C$50 though and the ones I got were C$10 for a six cupper.

Soon, your sister wounds like a real winner - NOT! Seems to me you will be doing enough for her wedding and shouldn't be expected to give an elaborate gift too! Just my opinion.

Mamahulk, I do hope the doc can do something for your son. You sound very tired and frustrated. :grouphug:

SunLit, careful with those treats! If they have sugar alcohols they can have repercussions. :( I hope your 2.5 pounds stay lost!

3darlings, I hope you can head that cold off before it gets rooted. Water and sleep maybe? I find ginger tea sometiems helps. I'll know Lucy is preggers when her boobs start to swell. I gould get her tested when she's 3 weeks but it's 100 bucks so....

Bella, what a relief to get those exams done with! Now about the breadsticks :nono: . I must confess they are one thing I just cannot have in the house. The crunch of celery is just NOT the same!

Kiko, what a nice relaxing weekend you had! I hope the sleepover goes well - I can hear the giggles now.

Usmchoney, could you take a fruit dessert to the party? Maybe with sf valilla pudding as a sauce?

Pearshape, I'm glad the extra pounds are leaving. I may try that pesto pork chop recipe soon. I do like that new cookbook and also the Sonoma one.

Cottage, sounds like a busy day for you! Being a surrogate grandmas is great - I'm like that with the kidlets in our Church group.

Kelly, how nice that your husband cooks with you. Harry loved cooking and we did a lot of that before his stroke.

Gotta get cracking. I'm going away towards the end of the week and have a ton of stuff to get through before Thursday morning!

03-06-2006, 10:52 AM
good morning gals~

I've almost finished my coffee for the morning so i feel that I can face the world. Normally I run off to the gym first thing after breakfast so I can never just sit and enjoy it. Well today I meet with my trainer and get some buff arms for summer. I'm really excited although I way overdid the raking yesterday (yes we still have a ton of leaves) and my arms are already sore...

Soon-would you post pics of the cake you make? I'd love to see it. I think it's wonderful that you can do so much to help your sister but yikes she certainly isn't shy about asking huh? lol

Kiko-you asked the other day about my hubby and the restaurant, let's say he's more of a manager than a chef. Sounds like your's def is more gourmet:)

Everyone have a great OP day!!

  You girls have me cracking up over here. Please don't get the impression that DH ventures into the kitchen often. It was such a special event that it was worth mentioning. :D He used to cook before we were married (and pretty well, too) but the last few years his work hours have really picked up and now it's mostly up to me. He did so well though, I may have to start pushing him in there to help more often.

03-06-2006, 11:41 AM
Hey I got a Butter Question, I really dont care for the taste of "I cant believe it is not Butter" What do you guys use?

03-06-2006, 11:44 AM
MsCrockett - I use Smart Balance Light unless I need to bake and then I use Smart Balance.

I actually managed to keep up with my water this weekend. My eating was OP but had too many starches and not enough veggies. Better than many weekends though. I always weigh the most on Monday's and I am down a pound from last Monday so that is fine with me.

03-06-2006, 12:01 PM
I'm with Barb...Smart Balance or SB lite!

03-06-2006, 12:16 PM
I use Becel Light but I don't know if you can get it in the USA. I do prefer it to ICBINB!

03-06-2006, 12:25 PM
Good morning everyone! Day 5 of phase one and I'm dying for some cereal, but I will overcome. :D

Did anyone read that article on water?
I don't know about anyone else, but it was good news for me. All weekend I carried around bottles of water drinking as much as I could and it still wasn't enough! :dizzy: So I'm not going to stress about it anymore. Plus I don't have to push myself to drink pure water. I've got these flavor packets from wal-mart and they are wonderful. It's the wal-mart brand of the crystal light on the go packets. Only these are free of everything. No calories, fat, sugar, etc. Plus they taste just like kool-aid. Has anyone else tried these?

I'm going to my first TOPS meeting tonight. We'll see how that goes. Maybe I'll officially join next week.

Well, I guess that's all for now. Y'all have a wonderful Monday!

Christine :carrot:

03-06-2006, 01:11 PM
Phase 1 is over, I'm on to Phase 2, 25 pounds lighter.

HooiserMom - Good luck at the Tops meeting. Keep drinking that water!!

MsCrocket - I'm casting another vote for Smart Balance and Smart Balance light, both my husband and I prefer them to ICBINB, congrats on the 20 pounds!!!

Schatzi - have fun in the garden, can I give you my address?

Battmomm - raking leaves is a great way to get started on the arms!! Good job!

Sunlit - hope the weight loss stays off.

3darlingsmomma - I've been avoiding Girl Scout  cookie sales for weeks now, I know it will all be over soon for another year, I need to stay strong!!!

Freaky - I sit thru bad SciFi movies with my hubby all of the time :( I feel your pain

Soon - you are an awesome sister :carrot:

Mama - hope your kiddos are feeling better soon

Kiko - my hubby does all of the grilling and a lot of the salad chopping but unless I want side dish veggies BOILED:mad: I have to step in and take care of those! I had to teach him how to pre-heat an oven, he always wondered why that little light kept going off and on and off and on

Cottage - sounds like the surro grandkids will keep you very busy and entertained :)

I'm sure I forgot some people but I haven't figured out how to scroll back more than a page :dunno:

I hope everyone has a fantastic week on the Beach!!!

03-06-2006, 01:14 PM
Contgrats on the 25 lbs COUNTESS

03-06-2006, 01:48 PM
Crock & Countess - Congrats on the weight loss!

Well, I had my first piece of fruit today, a small banana and ever since I ate it, I've had a stomach ache!

I've finished all our bills and now they are on my fil's desk for him to go over. At least now he can leave for Florida without the stress of the bills being finished. Now things will be horribly slow here at work which I hate. I end up cruising the internet to pass the time.

I plan on making a double batch of crock pot chili when I get home. Both my daughter and I enjoyed it so much, I'm making more this time!

I am not getting enough vegetables in my diet either. I really need to work on that. How do you guys get in your vegetables? Mostly with salads?

Hi Ladies:)

Not too much going on,had to visit a friend whose in the hospital, did some shopping and getting my food journal ready for this week.

Now that I know my plan for lossing,{doctors office visit last week} I have to follow it to a tee,by keeping away from grain/bread products. Its going to be hard to ajust,as I:love: LOVE:love: BREAD.

Here to a new week on Phase 1.5[fruit] until I reach my goal & beyond.

Hugs :) BB

03-06-2006, 02:12 PM
3darlings - I'm sure many people know I rarely touch a salad (except 3 bean salad, I love that). Some of the favorite ways to eat vegetables in our household are: add spinach to casseroles and pasta dishes, the Soy Ginger Asparagus dish in the original SB cookbook, garlic mustard green beans, Kale and Black bean dish, Mushroom Medley, roasted veggies, steamed broccoli, spinach cooked with garlic and chicken broth and chili. I also make Eggplant parmesan (baked not fried) and I like to lightly cook cabbage and serve dishes over it that I would normally serve rice with. Oh, I forgot about the brussel sprout recipe where they are cooked with turkey bacon. Oh, and the pork and pepper salad recipe is a hot salad so I love that. And there are always dishes like stir fry. I also eat raw veggies as snacks. I prefer zucchini, cauliflower and red pepper.

03-06-2006, 02:49 PM
Good morning chickies! :p

Hoosier - thank you so much for sharing that water article. I was really stressing about not drinking enough plain water - especially when I love the little to go Crystal light packets!! :carrot:

I must say - that article about the SBD frustrated me a little when I read it. I'd like to tell the researchers - "I'm down 9 lbs in 3 weeks - how do you like them apples??" :s:

I'm doing Phase 1.5 right now - and I've never felt so naughty while eating a piece of 9 grain bread with my veggies and eggs for breakfast yesterday!

Just to let everyone know - I added 3 new chili recipes that I created to the Phase 1 chili recipe section.

Sorry I can't respond to everyone individually - so a simple  to all!

03-06-2006, 02:59 PM
So this week is National Lutheran Schools Week. They plan it so every day at school is a different fun dress-up day. Today is Blue and White day (our school colors,) tomorrow is Hawaiian/Tropical day, Wednesday is Sports Team day, Thursday is Pajama day, and Friday is Dress Up day. I have gotten into trouble today for what someone told my boss that I'm going to wear tomorrow. Someone "overheard" me telling someone else what I was going to wear tomorrow and changed the story, telling Frank, and I was warned to make sure I'm professional.

I'm going to wear my 51-year-old mother's tropical flower dress. It's full-length and has a slit up each side (to the KNEE.) It's also sleeveless, and I'm wearing a black sweater over the top of it. Whoever told Frank what I was wearing told him that it had a slit all the way up and I was wearing a STRAPless dress, not SLEEVEless, and they omitted the sweater over the top part. I'm tired of getting into trouble and getting warnings, etc, when I haven't even PLANNED to do anything wrong.

Better get back to work. I have a lot of stuff to get done. Just wanted to vent a little. Sorry I haven't been my usual self lately. I'm kind of *****y lately and I don't mean to be. I AM JUST SO SICK OF IT!!!!!

Just wait, girlies. Next week is PMS week. :D Hope you all are fine and dandy. Back to work!

03-06-2006, 03:13 PM
Just checking in......

Weezle I hope you hear something back on the applications you have been putting in. :crossed:

Good day here so far! I scrubbed the kitchen floor and cleaned DD's bedroom. More picked up, it needs a good baseboard scrub, but that will be tomorrow.

As soon as Dh gets back from the bookstore, we are heading out to pick up DD's friend. We have to make a quick stop at Walmart and then home for a bit. She has dance class tonight, so we will drag her friend along with us. I thought about letting her skip tonight, but dance isn't cheap, so I really don't want her to miss any classes.

It is an absolutey gorgeous day here in Dallas- we have all of our windows open- lots of fresh air for us! :sunny:

Later gals.....

03-06-2006, 03:21 PM
I went to my weigh & measurment for the month at Curves. I lost 8", 7.6 #'s, and 1.3% Body Fat this month. That totals me at 23" from January 3, 2006 and 24.6 lbs. I wanted to be down 30lbs by the 3rd of March, but I guess I wll try a different goal. My new goal is be down about 40-45lbs by April 3,2006.

03-06-2006, 04:58 PM
Great job Bella - I just joined Curves, so hopefully I will see results too!
Weezle - Sounds like you have a few jealous folks around you. HOW can your boss give you a "WARNING" if you haven't done anything. Why isn't he "WARNING" the gossiping folks? Sounds like a jackass, I'm sorry a "professional" jackass.
Yes, I will post pics of the cake.....after all that hard work? I'm going to show it off! It really won't be that bad.....4 tiers (14, 12, 10, 8 ) all white buttercream - no design, & sister wants their initials on the top. I found a great site that sells them for $5.00. I decided that while I was home in July for the shower, I would back the cake, do the syrup, and maybe the crumb laver, then freeze them. My grandmother has a huge freezer & I'm sure she will let me borrow some room for a month. That way when I get down there for the wedding I just have to ice & stack (much less stress!) I forgot to tell you another thing I'm doing for sis....this is a surprise - I am going to put small pics of her & mom on cardstock & tie ribbon on the cardstock & then tie the ribbon around her bouquet so mom can be near her. I read about the idea & thought it was a wonderful idea. Maybe I should quit retail & start in the wedding business!

03-06-2006, 07:26 PM
Soon ~ I love your idea of the pictures! What a wonderful way to include your mother. I sure hope your sister appreciates you!

03-06-2006, 11:14 PM
Hi, everyone. I just spent a day serving on a jury and I get to go back and do it tomrrow! whippeee!! It is very interesting but hard to see the pictures in the evidence etc. Supposed to be wrapped up by tomorrow night depending on deliberations. I actually stayed on plan today. I'm longing for a good comfort meal tho.
Good night.
