It's a 26 mile walk/jog marathon to benefit many non profit organizations. I've never entered a marathon before but I've always wanted to. This is a very real goal for me, something to reach and look forward to.

It's in May, so I have two months to train for this. Anyone who has any advice or can share some of their own marathon experiences would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! :)

WOW! that's really amazing! I've never done a walk of this sort, so I really can't be of any help to you...the longest that I've ever walked is when I walked the Mackinak Bridge 4 years in a row on Labor Day with my Mom...and that's only 5 miles....I wish you luck, and CONGRATULATIONS on attempting something so astronomical.

Wow, congratulations. Ditto on the not being able to give you any advice. I have seen some threads that might be helpful in the exercise section. Good luck and please keep us posted. Maybe a thread where you post your training or ???

WOw...that is fantastic. The only thing that comes close to that is I did the Boston Walk for Hunger back in 94. I believe it was also 26 miles....but I did not train. I really do not know what I was thinking. It was really stupid of me not to train. I could not even move the next day. SO, I am glad you are training for it. The only advice I can give you is wear comfortable shoes and socks. I had so many blisters. May is such a nice time of year! Keep us posted!

Walk everyday! I haven't done anything this long either.. just a 12km walk. I agree with the comfy socks and shoes thing, and as weird as this sounds, I noticed when I held my arms up, almost like I was pumping them it helped. Lots of stretching, and the right kinda food before! Goodluck! :)

I'm training for a marathon too, but mine is in September, so I guess you don't want to wait for my advice once I've done it! Try to find a structured programme to train to, and build up your long sessions gradually. I've read that for a beginner you don't need to go much above 18-20 miles in training as the adrenaline on the way will get you the rest of the way round.
