Dieting with Obstacles - Fibromyalgia #150

Wow ... this is thread #150 ... that's a lot of yacking.

I've had the crud. Been in bed (or on the couch) all week. Didn't even go to church last Sunday. I went to the Dr. last Fri. and got a Z pack and some cough syurp ... getting better but still weak.

We had about and inch and a half of snow last night. No school today. Suited me fine. I wasn't planning on teaching today anyway. I don't teach when they call school off because of the weather. I haven't worked all week so I'd figured I finish it out ... I don't teach on Fri. so today would have been my last day. Maybe I'll have some energy by Monday.

My SIL's dad got to go home after they put his stint in then he had to go back with more chest pains the next day ... he's fine now but my FIL has infection in his head and face surgery. He was only home for 4 days and hubby said he watched his mom dress the place and she didn't even touch it, put the ointment on it directly from the tube using sterile bandages then put on clean non-stick, sterile bandages. Don't know how it got infected. Bless his heart. He so pitiful. He's soon to be 88 yrs old. He's on antibiotics again. I haven't been able to go over all week ... afraid I'll give them the bug. He has heart problems and has had cancer ... he had his bladder removed some time ago and wears one of those bags. When he had it done, he was laying in the hospital bed and the nurse said for us to gather around and she'd show us how to remove the bag and clean around it. She pulled down the sheet but I remained in my chair in the corner - thought I'd give him his privacy. Hubby and his mom went up to the bedside. Well he called my name and said I'd better come up there and learn how to do that, said it might just be me and him some day. I told him if that ever happened I'd just turn him over a bucket and let him drain. I thought he was going to bust all his stitches loose laughing. The nurse laid down on the foot of the bed and laughed. That's one job I told hubby him and his brother was going to have to do!!! :p

Candice, I wish I could exercise. I think I've gained a couple of pounds laying around this week. I always hurt something evertime I start to exercise so I'm leary of even trying anything. You'd better be careful! Watch your carbs ... and all those cookies you like to make! :D

Mima ... my hubby has been doing the washing this week. I hate when he does that but it's been out of necessity. He's good to help me, though. I think he must be about half way between your Brad and Joanne's Louie! (He doesn't like to go shopping either!) :p I don't like it much either lately ... stuff is too high!

02-09-2006, 07:50 PM
Meme, Bob has been doing cooking and laundry alot lately. I appreciate it as long as none of my clothes shrink or turn weird colors. lol

Joanne, I agree about the Clinique not being cheap. I used to buy it quite a few years ago. I'm with you about losing things when you buy them. Frustrating!

Our school board finally got smart about the school levy. It finally passed this week. They had wanted a permanent tax, and it failed twice by going that route. My husband and brother were big time into getting it changed to a 5 year instead of the permanent. That's what it was on Tuesday, and it passed. Of course, they threatened to drop all of the junior high sports, so I'm sure that had something to do with it passing too.

Gosh 150 threads already. AMAZING!!

Joanne - hope the meds work and you get better soon. It's not nice being sick, and even worse when you aren't used to getting colds or flus. Glad that they are keeping your stuff at the store for you. No, Clinique is NOT cheap. Unfortunatley I can't use the stuff. Makes my skin all red and blotchy.

Mima - Hope you enjoy your visit. A list is good. My hubby does all the vacuuming in this house and has done so for over 20 years, since I had back surgery. I have to help out once in awhile, if I need a real thourogh cleaning done as men just see that needs to be done. I have managed to train him to do the edge by the baseboards.

Tammy - You should live here this week. We are having a Teacher's Convention, so the kids are all happy. No school until Monday! Also, our schools start at 8:30 a.m. Can't imagine getting little kids and teens to school for 7:00 a.m.!!

Meme - Our whirlwind lady. How's things this week? Hope you have managed to take a much deserved rest.

Hi Canadice - hope you are feeling better. Found anyplace to move to yet?

Not to much new. Just been really busy at work, breaking records I guess. Thought it was just me, but apparently NOT!!! We need another lab I think, as Red Deer has grown by over 10,000 people this past year but the powers that be will not let us have another lab. Go figure.

Went to the chiro today and my back feels a LOT better. He worked on my sinuses as well, and boy are they draining right now. I took 10 days of antibiotics for them, cleared up the infection, but still was having problems with headaches and faceaches etc. Hopefully this will help.

Hope you are all having a good day.

Meme, keep the crud in Tenn!!! You always manage to do so much nad then collaspe for a few days..sounds just like me! Your DH has turned out to be so nice..I remember when you first posted, he did not treat you the best and then he made a complete change! Wish mine would...ya want to trade! ;)

Tammy...I'm up for cookies and tutoring!:D So your DH helps too..I guess mine is a real poop..well he is pretty nice just does ot do much around here!

Joanne..hope that throat is better and DH is helping you more...I thonk yours and mine are a lot alike!

Mima...who cleans for you? I try to watch what I eat but love my cookies too!

Happy..we are not even looking yet...gotta get the estate settled first unless we get kicked out of here by a family member:eek: Glad your DH helps too!

Went to my first Biofeedback session..seems the first two are just getting to know you sessions. She seems to think I am doing all the right things but wants to help me fine tune ways. She is really nice but very young and perky! I have to go once a week and that is hard for me to do..but I keep thinking maybe something will help sicne I can't take anymore son said to give it a shot..

Hope it works, candice. Try using Splenda. Hope you are enjoying that work-it's really good for the brain to do something like that.Hope you feel a lot better Joanne. Tammy-it's going to snow a lot in MA on Sunday. Siobhan is having surgery today for the cervical cance and then they are going to implant something for 2 weeks. I sure hope she gets rid of it. Going with other grandma to babysit tonight. First we are going to a thrift store. I can't lift Evan so other grandma needs to put him to bed. Then we said we would need a nap!!! They are supposed to come home at 9:30.
We got a second tv last night and Brad watches it with earphones. I have to miss so many things I like because he only likes news so off to Walmart last night. I stayed home-I am sick of that place-it's such a zoo down here with all those old people-no one looks where they are going-me included. Just kidding-I am one of those old people but I refuse to lean on the shopping cart. Mima

Hey Girls.. It seems to be a unending thing with me. Now the antibiotics are keeping me in the bathroom all day!!!I guess the cold is getting better.
The car is in the shop again. So I guess there goes some more money. I wish they would tell the hubby we need a new car. He sure isn't going to listen until they tell him it can't be fixed.
No he isn't helping with much. He had a mother and father that thought they had to do everything. Too bad .
We found out around about that our son was having neck/spinal surgery. He was put out that we found out. So today I am a little upset about that. I guess we stop being parents at some point in their life.

Joanne ... my son's getting a bit like that. Found out from someone else that they were selling their house and buying land to build another one. Seems everyone knew but us. They finally told us after it was a done deal. Hubby said DIL didn't want us to know before it was a done deal because she was afraid we would talk our son out of it. They have a lovely (huge) home now. She always wants something bigger and better. Go figure! They built one across the road from us about 10 yrs. ago that was very nice, 3 bedrooms and large family room, living room ... it wasn't big enough either. They then bought the one they are in now. I have all I can keep up ... mine isn't very big ... I'd like to have bigger rooms when it comes Christmas time or time for BD celebrations ... but not more rooms. I don't like to clean that well!!! :p
I have a feeling she'll regret building a larger house when she gets my age! She was talking about hard wood floors and stainless appliances the other day at lunch. When we were on the way home hubby started laughing. He said to me that they hadn't even gotten a buyer for their house or broken ground on their new land yet and she was already furnishing the house. He said she has no idea what stuff costs now days and that she's in for a rude awakening. I'm afraid he may be right. I know we underestimated when we built this house 17 years ago and then we redecorated a few years ago and it cost $20,000 to just recover the floors, paint and buy some livingroom & dinning room furniture, appliances and new curtains. You can't buy a gallon of paint now for under $15 and a gallon doesn't go very far. I don't envy them!

Yes ... You could say I've rested ... been in bed since last Sunday. I'm planning to get out of the house tonight. For the first time since last Friday. I guess this is the longest I've been house bound in nearly a year. It's supposed to come a big snow here tonight. 2 to 4 inches. Better get out while I can! ;)

Hey Candice ... you could always do what I did ... guess that's why my hubby changed so drastically. I threatened to leave him ... remember??? :p

Hope you all have a quick recovery from your ills. No fun being sick! Especially with back pain, fibro pain, colds and crud (and even poopy husbands)!!!!!!! ;)   Have a wonderful weekend all. Guess I'll be snowed under in TN!

Meme- If was just a house I could understand. This is surgery on the disks in his neck. He tried to keep his family from finding out about. The people he put on his prayer line called us. That is not the way for us to find out.I will be upset about this for sometime. His sister asked him why he didn't just take out an advertisement in the paper. That didn't go over so good.Oh well just venting...Joanne

02-11-2006, 07:46 AM
I was talking to my brother about our kids yesterday and how they don't get it and not telling your mother about surgery might be under that category. I can imagine how you must feel Joanne. I don't remember that about your husband, Meme, but Dr. Phil says we teach people how to treat us. Glad you got out of bed. I have asthma again. I guess it's the tree pollen.
yesterday other grandma picked me up and we went to a real nice Goodwill-bought 2 sweaters-and then we babysat for Al and Evan. GS does the lifting . I brought the supper. I was home at 9:30. Brad is going to handyman day at the church and I am having a massage. At home -6-10 inches. Just very cool here. Mima

02-11-2006, 09:58 PM
Anne, tell them that I said that you need another lab.

Candice, the biofeedback sounds interesting. I don't know if I could handle a perky person though. lol they make me tired.

Mima, I'm 50 and I lean on the cart at Wal Mart!! The east coast is going to get lots of snow it sounds like. Glad the big stuff missed us. It is snowing right now, but we're not supposed to get very much.

Joanne, I'm sorry you didn't know about your son's surgery. Maybe he didn't want you to worry about him since it was this type of surgery. I don't know. Still, you are his parents and you should know. And by the way, tell you hubby that I think he needs a new car.

Meme, we were so glad that we didn't decide to build and bought a house already here. It was tough enough making decisions about what to do here.

02-12-2006, 02:14 AM
Mima ... I think all that happened before you came. Anyway, he's a little different these days. Now, if he says something that makes me feel bad I just tell him. I say, I don't like it when you talk to me like that ... it makes me feel bad and you would not have said that to someone else. Would you have spoken like that to your mother? That ususally straightens him right up! ;) Life is too short not to live in peace ... I decided long ago that I deserve to be treated with respect. If the people around me don't like that idea they don't have to be around me. :p

We got about 2 inches of snow last night and we're supposed to get some more tonight. Went to see Ross and Jenna tonight. They were in rare form. They're growing up too fast.

Joanne ... our kids don't realize we want to know everything about them and we're going to worry ... one way or the other ... so they may as well just go ahead and tell us!

I think I have a blood clot in my leg ... guess I'd better get out of this office chair, get in bed and put it up on pillows.

(I've been leaning on those carts since I was in my 20s!) :p

02-12-2006, 08:36 AM
I guess we will both be seeing doc, Meme. The asthma is no better-hate to take an antibiotic again. I have been so good with the wheat. But I can get my throid checked. It's snowing back home!!! Mima

Tammy- I have been telling my hubby we need a new car for more than a couple years. As long as he can get someone to fix it he will do that. we can well afford a new car,he just won't give up on this one.
Meme -It seems that kids these days are very self involved. It is all about them. My son has never had a child. That may be why he fails to understand how a parent feels.
mima- Aren't you glad you are in Fl. Now? You would be finding someone to shovel snow.

02-13-2006, 04:55 PM
Meme and Mima, go to the doctor!!!

Joanne, my parents were the same way about cars. As long as it could be fixed, they kept the same ones for years. They couldn't understand why my brothers and I would get new cars sometimes. Of course, we were putting alot more miles on our cars than our parents ever did. lol

Kids really are self involved these days. I totally agree. I've seen so much change in the 29 years of teaching, and lots of the change isn't good change.

We had some snow here, but nothing like in the east. I had a personal day today, and we drove into snow. Bob, Tim, and I went to Ball State (Muncie, IN) for a criminal justice seminar for kids that will be starting there next fall. Every person that we've met in the CJ department has been so friendly and knowledgable (I don't think that's spelled right). I think Tim will do fine there.

02-13-2006, 04:58 PM
OH!! I forgot. Prayer request. The sister of a boy in my class is having open heart surgery tomorrow. Susan is 19 years old. She's had one surgery years ago. Adam is going to be at the hospital during the surgery. A couple of the girls in my class told him that we were going to take time during the day for Prayer Time. I was amazed. Just keep Susan and the family in your prayers please. She's a sweetie! Thanks.

02-14-2006, 08:42 AM
Will do! Happy Valentine's day. Brad was funny-gave me these 2 red creatures-from Walmart-that kiss and make a smacking noise and say I love you. And flowers and a funny card. Auntie called yesterday and said she had a UTI and got some med and feels better. But they are going to do more bloodwork-She has pernicious anemia and has to get shoys and take iron. Daughter went to gastro guy-surprise-he thinks she has IBS. My doc says that's what you call it when you don't know but I have it!!!I had red sauce last night and voila. Going to doc at 10-my cough sounds like I have been smoking for years!!! Hey Meme-how's your leg? I am a fan of new cars cuz they keep improving them! But I don't know how you can convincee eyour husband. Mima

02-14-2006, 06:05 PM
Still got it ... ;) The vein is hard as a rock. I'm putting moist heat on it and taking aleive and asprin and keeping it up as much as I can. About all you can do.

I'm a big fan of new cars, too, but my hubby is just like all the rest. He is in favor of driving them until they won't drive. I noticed him looking at vans in the Nashville paper last Sun., though. I thought I was doomed to drive my last car until the wheels fell off and one Sun. just out of the blue he was looking in the paper and asked me if I wanted to take a drive to Nashville to look at a van. That's how we got the one we have now. So ... Maybe there is hope!

He got me a dozen white roses and silver earings for Valentine's Day ... then he called about 2 hrs. ago and told me not to cook because he was taking me out to eat tonight. (I guess I'll keep him!) :p

02-15-2006, 06:31 AM
That's great, Meme. We ate dinner at home because we had eaten out all weekend and tonight too. Our friends will be here next Monday for 2 days. I went to doc yesterday and got Zithro again-it gives me stomache pains but I didn't remember til after. You only take it for 3 days and it works for 10. I'm already feeling better. Getting the thyroid test Fri-had to beg to get that done. Doc doesn't know how smart we are about what is going on with our bodies but I could be wrong. He thought 97.2 was a good temp. Art today!! Hope Susan is ok Tammy. Mima

02-15-2006, 07:33 PM
The owner of the shop where hubby works ... his wife is dying from cancer. She hasn't eaten anything for about a month now. Drinks 3 Boosts a day. Then, last night his dad died. I feel so sorry for him. He said his wife is so weak she can't even get the tops off her medicine bottles. And on top of all that ... His son is in rehab ... oxycodone (and anything else he can get his hands on.) Then ... just found out about 20 minutes ago my best friends sister-in-law died this morning. PLUS ... son-in-law had a heart cath this morning. Thank goodness everything was fine with that and he got to come home this afternoon.

Mima ... I'm so sick of eating out. We'll do it again tonight. No time to cook. I've been in town all afternoon and didn't get home until 3:30. Hubby got home at 4. Had customers pulling in the driveway right behind us. Sold 2 trailers and now he's getting ready to go to the funeral home. We're supposed to meet friends afterward to eat. Tomorrow night we have Ross and Jenna to spend the night and we always take them out to eat, Friday night we have another funeral home ... friend's SIL ... we'll eat out then, too, I'm sure. Then Sat. is her funeral so another day shot. Everyone will probably want to go eat lunch after the funeral. We always eat out on Sunday ... it will probably be next Monday before I'll cook again. Don't know if I can take it that long or not!!!

02-16-2006, 06:16 AM
Good morning-you sure have a full plate, Meme.I remebered this morning that 15 years ago today my previous husband died. My life is so diffferent now from that awful time! The teacher in my encouragement class told her story last night about the day her daughter got hit by a car, her baby had a high temp and her 11 year old son got killed by someone with a rifle. And how she got through it, Then she passed out Psalm 25 15-21 that helped her. Life seems to be full of situations we have to deal with.
Daughter called yesterday and got the job she interviewed for. That's the second time she interviewed for it and many others did too. She will now be making 4,000 less than I did when I retired from 34 years of teaching!!!!!! Course now I would be making a lot more. Going to lunch with a friend, rug cleaners coming. Feeling better. Bye for now, Mima

02-20-2006, 07:22 AM
Good morning-hey -it's been 4 days since anyone has posted!!! I have gone out to eat 3 times since I last posted!! Our friends are coming to stay for a couple of days and Mike is having a cookout today. Are you on vacation, Tammy? They are up north. I know you have been busy Meme-bye for now. Mima

02-20-2006, 12:02 PM
Hi all! Sorry to be out of the loop. I've been at the other house most of the past week and haven't been on line.

Adam's sister, Susan, came through her surgery with flying colors. She was out of ICU the next day!! She also e-mailed some people that day! Amazing. Just found out that she can come home later today. The power of prayer!

Sorry to hear about all of the health problems and the deaths that so many of us are experiencing right now.

Bob and I ate dinner at home on Val. Day too. One of my best friends sent me a rose, and the neighbor lady brought cookies over for us. That was the extent of our celebration. lol

I'm not sure where I'll be this week. Back and forth again probably. I'm going through pictures that I found in a closet at the old house. I need to make sure that they are just copies before I get rid of any. Also found stuff that my mother had saved from when she was in high school. She graduated in 1950, so it's been around a while.

Hey Everybody- I have been around but just not posting. My son has surgery tomorrow. Prayers please. My hubby and I decided he is a big boy and his wife is the one to be there. They really didn't want a lot of people there. I told him to have his wife call us when she has some news.
Nerves and upsets have had me eating too much. Now I have to take care of me. My hips and back have been giving me a fit. Funny how our emotions work on our physical being..
Sorry to see that I am not the only one in the same boat. My daughter told me her hubby and son have the same colds and she is getting it again. She has had it since November. I hope they get over it before they come down in March.I am pretty much over it. You guys get well.
The weather here could not be much better. I hope it lasts. I want to get my yard back in order. I tried to do a little today but was only able to do a little bit.We still need rain.

02-21-2006, 11:23 PM
Joanne, we just made reservations at Disney World in June. We'll be there from the 18th-24th. After that we are headed to Tampa to visit BIL and family. I know you aren't far from there. Would you like a visitor? Meet for coffee or something in June?

02-22-2006, 08:21 AM
Good morning-I posted yesterday but it got losst. Our company is here and we are having fun!!! Easy folks to entertain-they pitch in!!!! We are going to Pine Island today and church supper tonight. Siobhan is in remission. PTL-Joanne-how is you son? Mima

Joanne D
02-22-2006, 11:24 AM
Mima- My son's wife called and said he went through surgery without any problems. he stayed overnight in hospital and is going home today.
Tammy- June is a long way off, but, meeting somewhere sounds nice. We don't drive in that Tampa traffic anymore. I would enjoy meeting you here in Tarpon Springs if it can be arranged.
I helped outside yesterday and have paid the price with my back. I guess I will just do a little laundry and sit around today.
Hello Everybody...Joanne

02-22-2006, 05:04 PM
Joanne ... glad your son is ok. I know you are relieved.

Raining here. We've had more up and down weather. Hot then freezing cold. Rain then snow and ice. We have to go to GA this weekend so hope it is nice. I dread it. The blood clot in my leg still isn't completely gone. The vein is still hard. But it is getting better. I wish I didn't have to go.

I've been feeling so crappy. Feel like I'm coming down with the flu but I never do get there. I freeze all the time. I've been taking my temperature 3 times a day (morning, noon and night) and it is so low it's a wonder I'm still alive. :p Don't tell me to go to the Dr. ... my Dr. knows my temp. is always low. It actually hit 96.4 a couple of times this week!!! 'Bout freaked me out. I said, "I must be dead and just don't know it!" It dropped below 97 eight times in the last week. I had hubby check out my thermometer to make sure it was ok ... he was normal. He says something's wrong with me. I said no kidding!

02-23-2006, 07:02 AM
Low temps are a sign of a low thyroid Meme. I forgot if you are on thyroid med. Boy, we have been having fun with our company, We all went to the curch supper last night and I went to my last class, and so did Ethel while the men stayed for prayer. Out to breakfast this morning. DIL had a false scare and got checked out, Seems like the baby was on her bladder, now they think it's coming earlier. get all your throid levels checked Meme. Glad your son is ok. Joanne. Mima

02-23-2006, 12:37 PM
That's why I said don't tell me to go to the Dr. because he knows my temp is low - I told him it was always a degree below normal. He checked my thyroid a couple of years ago ... it was borderline low so he did nothing. My temp was only 96.2 when I went to bed last night and 96.4 when I woke up this morning.

Hi everybody.

Mima - glad you are enjoying visiting with your friends. Hope the baby doesn't come to soon!

Joanne - glad you son came through the surgery ok. I guess the men don't want to be mothered any more - or so they think. Hope you are feeling less sore today.

Meme - I also have a low body temp, but my thyroid test always comes out ok (a little one the lower side of normal, but still normal) I am ALWAYS cold and not just chilly. I have had spells where I thought I had hypothermia and nothing I did got me warm. It just took 4 hrs or so to let it pass. I told the Dr. about it, and he told me it was a fever. I told him it WASN"T a fever as my temp. was low not high, but, as Drs. do, they dismiss what you have to say.

Tammy - Are you still staying at your old house? Is it a lot closer for you to school? I hope you and Joanne can get together for a coffee. That would be really nice.

Sure have had busy days at work the past few days. Been too tired to even come to the board. This is the FIRST day, I can say, I don't want to lay down and do nothing but sleep. We finally had our first real snowfall yesterday. Lots of nice snow, but it is full of water. Great snowman and snowball material, but bad for the old bones. I like the light dry snow. Not as much fun to play in, but sure makes a HUGE difference, pain wise. I am NOT a kid and I DON'T want to play in it:)

Hope you are all having a good day.

Hi Candice, if you should appear. Hope you are feeling better.

Happy Canuk

To laugh often

02-24-2006, 08:55 AM
Good morning. Glad to hear from you Anne. I stillhaven't heard about my thyroid test. All we did was sleep yesterday. we were so tired from company. then I stayed up to watch the skating. Another nap today. After the flea market. DIL is ok-the baby was sitting on her bladder. My niece is going to be induced next week because of liver problems. her mother is busy taking care of the grandfather, I feel so bad for her. I finished my crocheted blanket yesterday. It's too long and looks like it will fall apart!!! I should stick to what I am good at. Hi everyone. Mima

Meme- A temp of 96-97 is normal for me.. If I start getting higher I am sick. My circulation is not all that good. my feet and hands are always cold. My feet sometimes fell like they are in ice water.
Happy- my son seems to have done well in surgery. he still can't swallow solid foods. His throat is irritated from the airway I suspect. As mothers will do ,I made and took him some Greek Chicken soup .
Mimi- It looks like you are having a grand time. Having company is nice ,but, tiring.
Tammy- Just a few more months and school will be out. Do you feel like this year has gone by fast? Are you retiring this year? My daughter always looks forward to summer. She has more free time but does do things around the school even in the summer. When my hubby retired he said that was the end of it. He had no desire to go near a class room again.Ofcourse he wasn't well.
He has since had quad. bypass surgery and is much better than then.Just getting older and slower.
Hello Candice...
Have a good weekend everybody ...Joanne

02-25-2006, 03:31 PM
Joanne, so glad to hear that things were ok with your son and his surgery!
I thought in June maybe Tim (son) and I could come to Tarpon Springs while Bob visits his brother some day. When it gets closer, you can let me know where we could meet! This is exciting!!! Can't retire this year. Need to go 120 days next year to get my 30th year of teaching for retirement purposes. There are some days that I feel like this school year has flown by, but the next day I feel like it is dragging. I'm like your daughter. Always spending the summers working on school stuff. I'm getting older and slower too.

Anne, I stay at the other house when I have early meetings at school. It's a mile from the old house to the school. That way I don't have to get up as early. I like sleep!!

Mima, I'm sure that blanket is fine!! I can't do anything like that, so I'm very impressed!!

Meme, my temp is low too. So is my son's. Just getting to 98, I can be miserable.

02-26-2006, 06:31 AM
Well, that's good tempnews. When I started on thyroid med, I was much younger. IBS is bothering me-asthma is better but not gone. Those 120 days will put you right where I retired , Dec. 98. But I didn't make that decision til OCT and I felt bad but my class was so awful-I taught 34 years so I guess I burned out.
I can't find shoes down here-size 5 and a half in sandals and 6 in others. That darn Beall's has so many shoes that are not in my size. I guess I should go to the mall. SIL has that vomiting bug which she got from taking care of her dad. Her daughter will have her baby on WEd so praying she will be ok, Mima

02-27-2006, 08:29 AM
Please , prayers for SIL's father who is in the hospital and his heart is working at 15% and her daughter who will deliver her baby tomorrow, who is having liver problems and it does affect the baby. Mima

02-27-2006, 09:30 PM
Mima, they will be in our prayers! Please keep us posted.

I went to my first water aerobics class tonight. I thought it was a 30 min. class, but it was an hour. Oh my! We all went in the hot tub afterwards. That felt great!

02-28-2006, 07:29 AM
I used to love those classes but don't overdo it and stretch too far Tammy. I may go to the pool today and the hot tub-my back hurts. I bought 3 pair of shoes yesterday!!!! All open toes so now I have to get a pedicure. Today is the day that Cindy will be induced. Also, SIL's father is holding his own. I feel so bad for Sue. So much to deal with . One of the Red Sox team joined Brad's church the other night. Just a young player from the farm team. I wonder what church Curt Schilling goes to-he is a Christian too. Have a great day. Meme, are you ok? Mima

02-28-2006, 08:20 PM
I felt ok this morning except for my back. It hurts no matter what I do though.

I rarely wear shoes without toes. Ugly toes. lol

I'm wearing myself and the kids out this week. Trying to go over things that might be on the test next week. There are some things in math that we don't cover till later in the year, so I'm trying to at least touch on those topics so they'll know a little bit about them. I hope they do ok. I'm concerned since I've never taught 4th before. I hope the scores for my class are at least close to the classes being taught by veteran 4th grade teachers.

03-01-2006, 09:18 AM
Wow-that brings back memories-that's why I left 4th grade-and that's when I came down with IBS. Not teaching and still have it. Swam yesterday and back still hurts. Art this am -relaxing. No change on homefront-baby's coming today, Grandfather on respirator. Brother has that icky virus. About testing-they always cover stuff the kids haven't had but they should have had some in 3rd. Each year adds on to what they already know. That's my big preaching on teaching. Bye for now, Mima

This is the first morning in 2 months that my back isn't hurting. Lets hope that whatever was out of place is back where it is supposed to. I have my brother coming for 2 weeks. He will stay with me a week and my other sister a week.He lives in Az. Eleni has a B/d the 8th and I have one on the 10th. She is throwing a big bash. It will be her 60th. I plan for all of us to go out to dinner for my B/D.:carrot: My daughter will be glad to see the end of this week too, testing.
Out of bed at 6 a.m. today. Went with hubby to get his bloodwork done. Got another busy day..Joanne

03-01-2006, 02:11 PM
Hello ... not dead just busy and sounds like everybody else is, too. Guess that goes with having a life. Been having headaches again. I figure it's stress.

Getting ready for the Home Show ... Fr., Sat. and Sun. A lot of work for that. Spent 3 hrs. last night just putting together price sheets. I still have so much to do. I haven't even got my tablecloth made yet ... have to have a new one this year because he's getting a new table that is bigger and the colors they are using are blue this year. At least they are going to have free wireless internet this year so I can take my notebook computer. I will have our site with all the pictures that are on that plus I downloaded a lot of pictures onto a CD and can use those to show. I always have stacks and stacks of stuff printed off for people to take with them with prices and pictures (still have a lot of that to do and have to go make copies of it all.) We're actually taking a landscaping trailer, a dump trailer and an enclosed cargo with us. We went to GA and picked up a new enclosed to show last weekend. We have a huge inside booth this year so we could get all that in it. I dread it ... it's gonna be a long 3 days! Ya'll think of me this weekend while you're relaxing away at home!!! :p

03-02-2006, 07:27 AM
That's really nice. My husband would love that. Baby was finally born last night-Lauren Evelyn after her great grandma-The Evelyn. She weighed 6 11-pretty good for 3 weeks early. She labored all day-then we were praying for her at prayer group and she had the baby right after. PTL More March bd's. Joanne. Congrats to you and your sister and hope your back stays well-mine is acting up also, As well as ibs. Asthma is better. Taxes done and a refund. Acct said little but I think 2,000 is big. It goes right back into next years est. taxes. Bye for now Mima

03-04-2006, 12:42 AM
Meme, that looks like our Boy Scout Troop's trailer except theirs is red. We built shelves inside for storing their gear.

Mima, that is a good sized baby for that early. Congratulations!!
I think 2,000 is big too!! Not sure what we'll get back, but some I hope. Bob took the stuff to the accountant yesterday. We usually do our own, but with buying the new house and some other things that happened in 2005, we thought we needed to have someone else do it. We'll sell the old house soon (we hope) so that means we'll probably want help with next year's taxes.

With the math section on the test, I'm sure that there will be questions about fractions that we haven't covered yet. We really haven't done much with addition and subtraction of them. Also, mode, median, range, and line plots. Those were on the practice test, and they aren't in our textbook until the end of the book. I've been skipping around some. I'll have a better idea next year on what needs to be covered. Of course, next year the test will be in May!

03-04-2006, 08:36 AM
May is good-Tammy is gone!!!We used to make strips and divide them up into fractions- a strip for fourths, fifths , etc, The kids could see the fraction. And then we would play cover up and they could see that one fourth was the same as 2 eighths. Brad has gone to Harbor Freight and I am going to an Art meeting. Art show next week along with Mission stuff. Very busy. I am eating Activia for 2 weeks to see if I feel better. I have taken so many anti-biotics, it can't hurt. It's special yogurt if you haven't heard of it. Ate out with Mike last night. Fun-Evan loves me-well, the feeling is mutual. Of course, I love Alison . She must get jealous!! Bye Mima

03-04-2006, 09:46 PM
Mima, I have heard of Activia but have never tried it.

Went to the Y for a class this morning. I had to adjust to my level, but that's ok.

03-05-2006, 06:50 AM
Good morning. My niece is home with her beautiful baby and her grandfather is in a nursing home. And Jessica is doing well in and out of school-driving lesson today. Going to Tampa this afternoon to meet Brad's friends from a church back home. Hey tammy, the Y can be part of your routine when you retire. Next week is Art League show and missionary week. Bye for now Mima

03-05-2006, 10:35 PM
I agree about the Y. Bob gets up and goes out there about every morning. Tim and I get up and go to school. lol

I am ready to head for bed. Bob said last night I sounded like a sawmill while I slept. Apparently I was snoring and making all kinds of noises. My sinuses have been doing weird things, so that was probably the cause. He told me that as loud as I was, I probably didn't get much real rest because I sounded so busy!!! lol

03-06-2006, 07:52 AM
Well, at least you didn't wake up!!! Since you have to work. Going to find out about going on a mission trip to Mississippi-it's on my goal list for this year. The dog is a problem ???? We went to tampa last night and met 9 other people for dinner-2 former Baptist pastors. One couple goes on mission trips all the time. And they are in their 70's. Stomache is a bit better-limiting myself to 1 cup of coffee. Bye for now, Mima

03-06-2006, 11:31 PM
I guess I was a sawmill again last night!! Poor Bob! Maybe he'll get some sleep tonight. Maybe he should sleep on the couch. lol

A mission trip will be awesome Mima! I've never been on one, but friends of mine have. Life changing experiences. I never drink coffee, so it wouldn't be hard to limit myself.

Water aerobics tonight. Lots of fun.

03-07-2006, 08:41 AM
I use foam earplugs because Brad snores.Maybe you could use breatheright strips. Pray for me to make a good decision-they are putting cots in a rec room to sleep-I would be happy with a motel room. My brain says Brad should go and I will take care of the dog. My heart wants to go. Anyhow, it's a good dilemma. I can imagine there are no hotel rooms. Someone said it was really bad down that way. Those poor people. Missionary week at Brad's church. Going out to eat with them at CrackerBarrel ri am-each Sunday school class has a missionary to wine and dine-not wine really-only dine. Mima How was your weekend ,Meme?

03-07-2006, 10:24 PM
Hey! I have some of those breatheright strips. Wonder if we moved them or if they are still in the cabinet at the old house? I'll look for them when I'm off of here.

I'm sure you will make the right decision about the missions trip. God will help you with that decision.

03-08-2006, 06:37 AM
We can't take the dog. My stomache has been so bummed out that I think Brad should go if he wants to and I will stay home. I am getting so frustrated with my stomache-is it ibs, diverticulosis? It hurts all day and I can only eat certain things. When we get home, I will go to the gastro guy. If I have to have surgery, I want to be at home. My brother had surgery to remove some of his colon with diverticulosis. I will do that if I need to. This is now interfering with my life. I read that you could have scar tissue from repeated bouts of infection. I did ask the church in MS if there were other accomodations besides the rec room. I feel like I need my own bathroom. I haven't heard from them. Brad is the one with the skills. I would be part of a canvassing project where they are going to leave gift bags at the door of every house. I can handle that. We will see. Art today!!! And the missionaries will be here at a service tonight. They are coming from all over. We are meeting them for breakfast on Friday. never a dull moment at that church!!! Mima

My brother is still here. He is moving to the other sisters house tomorrow. We are enjoying having him here. The hubby seldom has a man to talk to and he is having a ball. My back is still giving me a fit.. When the IBS kicks in I start eating yogurt.. It helps ,give it a try Mima... The weather here now is perfect. We do need rain though. I dread seeing my water bill this month.
Today is Eleni's birthday. Mine is Friday. She is having a big bash Sunday. I am going out to dinner with all the family Sat.I have eat too much this week. I need to get back in line...Keeping weight off is really is harder than losing it..I hate the tension it put me in..Joanne

03-09-2006, 05:32 AM
In the same boat with you, Joanne. I ate junk food all last weekend (and several days before while getting ready for the Home Show) and gained 5 pounds. Now I have to try to get that off. We had a very long and strenuous weekend. Took all my effort just to get through it. It's Wed. (actually Thur. now) and I still have no energy. We were at the Home Show Friday from 2:30 to 9 PM then again Sat all day. Hubby went at 8:30 ... I went at 12 and we stayed until 8. Then went back on Sun. from 12 to 4. I'm guestamating there were between 2,000 and 2,500 people came by our booth. I gave up on getting up and down and just stayed standing most of the time. We had carpet on packed dirt floors so you can imagine what my legs felt like at the end of the day. It was inside but not all that warm so I was not a happy camper. Our best friends own a propane company and they were right behind us ... he knows how cold I get and he had brought a lot of his fire places and heaters so he had one of his men mount a wall heater behind me at the back of our booth so at least I didn't freeze like everybody else was doing. We fight all the time so I told him I finally found something he was good for!!! ;) (We just play fight!) I'm just glad the whole thing is finally over. Our county schools are on spring break this week and next so I'm off ... hallelujah! If the trailer customers will leave me alone maybe I can get some rest. It's supposed to storm all day tomorrow (today) I'm going to stay in bed! :p

03-09-2006, 07:10 AM
Good morning-Glad you can rest up. We decided that Brad will go to MS and I will stay home with the dog. I am going to see the gastro guy when I get home to see if there is something I can do-even surgery. I eat yogurt every day-that;s what Activia is-Anne always said that we may have a yeast problem-They say to eat that for 2 weeks, Wow-what a service last night, The missions director came running through with a lit torch and placed it on a cauldron? and fireworks went off. Missionaries were presented etc. Yikes. Getting ready for Mike's bd-he will be 44.
Funny story-I have a pic of my daughter and her boyfriend on the frig. but since she was going her separate way, I folded it in half so it was only her. Then she called and said she had gone over to his house and was helping him pick out a mattress etc. When I got off the phone, Brad said-I already took care of the frig. He had unfolded the picture. Boy, did I laugh.
Bye for now. Mima

03-09-2006, 09:16 PM
Joanne, Happy Birthday to you and Eleni!!!

Meme, how nice of your friend to provide heat for you! Nice guy!!

Mima, how funny about the picture!! When Tim and Jess broke up for a while, I moved all the pictures into the extra bedroom. After they got back together, I brought them out one at a time.

03-10-2006, 06:33 AM
Good morning. We are meeting the missionaries that have been assigned to our Sunday school class, along with other couples. The church took them on a nightime cruise last night. Me thinks they will be tired but missionaries are used to long hours and this is giving them a break, It's awesome to see what a church with 6,000 memebers and a pastor who has vision can do.
Evan was here for an hour and a half last night. That boy is so sweet but Mike said he would take some videos of his behavior at home to show me. He talks all the time in his own language, interspersed with real words like Mima. He is going to stay over after the birthday party because they are going to a hockey game.
I did some breathing, push out your stomache exercises last night . Probably half of my stomache pain is related to fibro. TGIF for all those that work, Mima

03-10-2006, 10:15 AM
Mima, I'm sure the missionaries will have wonderful stories to share with all of you. Evan sounds like a delightful little boy. I'll be on my own tomorrow afternoon and evening because my guys are going to a hockey game. It is Tim's birthday gift. His b-day was last week, but the game is tomorrow. I'm sure they'll have a good time.
I'm off school today for my aunt's funeral. It was good to see some of my cousins at the visitation last night. It's sad that it's the only time we see each other anymore.
Have a good Friday everyone!

Thanks Tammy.. I am going to spend part of today making Fela. That is stuffed grape leaves. They are for Eleni's b/d bash Sunday. Our daughter coming in tonight with her hubby and our G/son. That is always a treat . If my back was better I would be in heaven. Joanne

03-11-2006, 07:35 AM
Lost my post!!!!! happy Birthday Joanne and Eleni-hope your back feels better.
Vision Trust is the name of the Missionary Group-they work qwith poor children. That's where my heart has always been. They want our friends to go down-he is a retired optometrist. I am sure they will-we might go another time.
The picture is back in half because Steve told Suzanne that he didn't know where she would be in a month. Good for him!!!!So she had a choice of 2 dates last night. Bye for now in case I lose this. Mima

03-11-2006, 04:59 PM
Joanne, what do you stuff the grape leaves with? Curious minds want to know! lol

Mima, the saga of the picture continues!! Keep us posted!!

Had my class at the Y this morning. Every other week it is water aerobics. After last week's kickboxing, pilates, and other tortures, this week was fun. I know on the weeks that we are not in the water, I will need to use some common sense. I totally overdid it last week. You'd think I would learn.

The sun finally came out for the first time today. It has been raining since last night. The guys left for the hockey game about an hour ago. Now it's just Kramer and me. I'm sure we'll have a lazy night.

03-12-2006, 06:46 AM
Good early morning. Today is the Art show and I am trying to decide if I can handle church, Sunday school, Art show and then church again, Then again, it's only one day. We heard the missionaries tell anecdotes about their work at the dinner last night-too funny. They all say theyhave never been to a mission conference like this before. I know last year they raised 400,000 for missions-that's above the almost million the church already gives, We are going to try to go to the Dominican Republic and try to learn Spanish before we go. That will be fun. Bye for now Mima-have fun today Joanne.

03-12-2006, 07:18 PM
Mima, the daughter of one of the teachers went to the DR on a missions trip a few years ago. It was a rewarding experience for all of those involved.

I didn't make it to church. Hurting so bad this weekend. Not sure if part of it is the water aerobics or just stress from everything that has been going on.

Joanne, we may have a change in plans. Might not be coming to Tampa now.

03-13-2006, 07:43 AM
Good morning-Wow of a service last night and we went forward because we want to go on trips but before us an amazing number went up to be full time missionaries. And pastor said that you would be changed if you went on trips. We signed up to sponsor a child in the DR.
The Art show was great -so many people. I won 3 raffles!!!!!!! And someone wanted to meet me because they won my small picture.
Today I need to start getting ready for company tomorrow. And Mr. Evan is staying over tomorrow night, LOL Mima

Tammy- You may need to find a ethnic food store where you can buy grape leaves. I use the orlando brand as they are usually nice large leaves.
Filling= Lean ground meat 2 pounds
1/2 cup rice
Can tomatoes (I use the ones with onion and garlic)Mash up well
onions (2) chopped fine
garlic , oregano (I use a lot to taste.
salt and pepper( I don't use salt as there is enough in chicken broth)
Mix well
Wash leaves well
Fill each leave with about 1T( or more depending on size of leaf) full and roll like a package.
place in pot fold down. pack close together.
Pour chicken broth in pot enough to just barely cover rolls.
cook on low till leaves are tender. DO NOT Stir(usually 2 hours or more)
Enjoy. You may be able to find a Greek cook book. They usually have diferent versions. This is mine
If you don't come to Tampa this year, there will be another time/
mima- We are birthdayed out. I am glad this time of the year has passed. too busy. We are going to cumberland Island next weekend. I hope my back holds out,I have been having some mean spasms.
Hello Meme...Joanne

03-13-2006, 09:43 PM
Mima, that's great that you'll be sponsoring a child in the DR. Winning 3 raffles! I want to win just 1. You'll have a blast with Evan!!

Joanne, the recipe sounds very similar to how I make cabbage rolls! I agree about coming to Tampa. I'd really love to meet you (and everyone else on here)! Take care of yourself!

I came home from school and fell asleep for an hour. Got up, ate some supper, went back to sleep and slept for 2 1/2 hours. I knew all day that I should have called in for a sub. I get stubborn sometimes.

03-14-2006, 08:15 AM
Hope everyone gets feeling well. Joanne, sometimes when my back hurts it is because the muscles in my legs are tight so I massage them. A masseuse told me that,
Anyone heard of aloe juice for your stomache. This masseuse keeps telling me this, Bought some yesterday because I had cramps. I think it gave me a lot of gas!!!
Daughter wants to come down for a week. Boy flights are expensive, Mima

03-15-2006, 02:00 AM
Hi everybody ... that recipe sounds good ... I may have to try it sometime.

I ate at a fish place in Nashville tonight and my stomach is killing me now. Had catfish and fries but I don't think that is what did it. We got some onion rings as an appetizer (what they called 'hay stacks') and they were really greasy so, along with the catfish and the fries that was probably just more grease than my stomach is used to I guess. I can still taste it! Ugh. :p

I saw my Rheumatologist for the first time since August ... he didn't do anything new ... just wrote out my scripts for a year, drew my blood and told me to come back in 4 months. Thanks a lot doc. Like King Solomon said,

"The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun."

Do you ever get to feelin' like you're just doing the same things over and over and over. Including going to the doctor and him telling you the same old stuff? 'That which is done is that which shall be done.' Nothin' new here! Oh ... well! At least I did get 4 new pairs of shoes and 2 new dresses while I was in Nashville. And I even managed to find SEVEN new accompaniment tracks of songs for me to sing in church. So the trip wasn't a total loss! :D (I always try to find something to be thankful for!) ;)

03-15-2006, 07:20 AM
Lost my post_birthday good-Evan is still sleeping. Rheumo the same as yours Meme-at least he is a Christian and we have had good conversations.
My daughter is coming down on March 28 and staying til April 8-yeah!! Let's see if I still say that later. Bye for now Mima

Joanne D
03-15-2006, 10:47 AM
Tammy- yes that is much the same as cabbage rolls..
I am going to be gone for the rest of the week till Monday.. Stay well all..
say my Dr. yesterday. he wants me to see another Dr. for my back. That will have to wait till I get back. I will surely need to then. Lots of walking at Cumberland Island..Joanne

Happy Canuk

Starting new thread. Don't post here, please.
