Hi Ladies! I don't know which number it is but I wanted to start a thread. I just started slimfast on day three. I have hit a plateau and wanted to boost my weight loss! How is everyone else doing on it? Any feedback would be appreciated! Thanks Penny

It's #6. I'm glad to see someone here. I had noticed posts had declined latley and was getting lonley. I guess summer vacations are keeping everyone off line. Well I am doing great and have lost 60 pounds. I have 80 to go. I mostly use Slimfast but also Power bars and I like the new Sam's Club shakes from Wal Mart. They tast as Good as if not better than Slimfast and have slightly less fat and seem to me to be of a smoother texture. Also they are $1\case cheaper. Ho[pe everyone out there is enjoying their summer. :)

Hey welcome and congrats on your loss. I am getting ready to leave on a trip to Cleveland this morning but wanted to check in first.I'm doing prety good and really noticing a big diferance in how I look. So nice to see my feet again!:o Sometimes you might find yopurself not loosing weight even though you stick to the diet. Don't be discouraged. This has hapened to me several times but it only lasts a week to a month. Realy not a big deal. I have lost 60 pounds so far. Never dreamed I could do it but here I am. This site is the best for when you need encouragement.

Hi Slim Fast Group!

I've become a convert. I was trying unsuccessfully to do Weight Watchers. I stay too focused on food with the points plan, it's all I think about so I figured maybe Slim Fast would be easier. I've been following the plan for 3 days now and it's great! I only have to think about one meal instead of totaling points all day and trying not to go over. I can't wait to see what my results will be when I weigh on Friday! I hope you all don't mind if I join in with you here!

08-01-2001, 02:17 PM
Hi Tiger Lilly,

You know, I joined this board in August of 99 also, and I think I remember you!

Anyway... Weight Watchers did not really work for me either.. for the same reason.. it was just too much focus on food. I lost about 25 pounds.. but then gained it back.

I do much, much better when I don't have to think so much about food choices.

Anyway.. I am just beginning the Slimfast plan.. but I have my meal at lunch because that is simply what works better for my lifestyle.

I need to lose about 55 pounds :(

Glad to see you here!

Elaine R.

I've been here for awhile, that's for sure. I'm really enjoying the Slim Fast Plan. It hasn't been difficult at all for me. I'm also eating my meal at lunch. It's great only having to worry about one meal and not keeping track of all those stupid points. I was constantly thinking about what I could and couldn't have. It drove me nuts. Good luck and maybe we can encourage each other!

08-01-2001, 06:03 PM
Hi Tiger Lilly,

Yes.. encouragement would be most welcome! I need to lose 55 pounds. I am 5'5", am 43 years old, single, and currently weigh 195 (ugh!). Well.. gotta start somewhere, right?

Today is my first day and I feel fine. How long have you been on this program again, and how much do you need to lose?

08-02-2001, 08:30 AM
Hi everyone! I am just starting the Slimfast plan today. Like others here I need to freedom from thinking about my food. Afterall it is just something we should be using to fuel our bodies and get us through the day...why does it consume so much of our thoughts? We don't spend so much time considering what gas to put into our cars.

Anyhow, I am looking to lose over 60 pounds. I hope this will give me a push in that direction. I am planning on using it in conjunction with WW in that I will count the points of the shakes and snacks and try to keep my dinners sensible. So far I figure my shakes (they are chocolate soy shakes) are 3 WW points. Once I eat two pieces of fruit for a snack, I will be at dinner with 8 or 9 points used up for the day. This will give me a lot of freedom for my dinner since I could eat 8 to 15 points and still be okay by WW standards.

I am going away with friends this weekend. I am going to focus on eating sensibly because I don't want to bother with the shakes. I may buy some meal on the go bars to pack in case I need to do a meal on my own.

Have a nice day!

Hi Elaine & Kirsten

Elaine, I need to lost 95 pounds, but I'm looking at 5 pounds at a time. I weighed 240 when I started the Slim Fast plan last Friday. It's been almost a week. I'm really enjoying it, it's not been had at all.

Good luck, maybe if we take the journey together it won't seem so tough.

08-02-2001, 10:45 AM
Hi Kirstin, Janet...

Its interesting that we all have about the same weight range to lose... 60. 55. 95....

Kirstin... Don't be so hard on yourself for not being able to think of food as just fuel. Food is more than just fuel... there is an emotional attachment to food that we can't deny. I am looking at this diet as an opportunity to really change my relationship and approach to food.. but I don't think we can really disconnect from the emotion of food. Skinny people obsess on food as much as we do... they somehow manage to manage their obsessions. Good luck this weekend, and its great to have you here!

Janet... I like your idea of setting your goal at five pounds at a time.. I feel overwhelmed by how much I weight I have to lose.. setting small goals is really smart.

I've decided to only weigh myself once a week.. that is so hard for me to do... but tomorrow is my designated "weigh-in" day.

Day Two

Tiger Lily
08-02-2001, 11:20 AM

That's exactly why I'm setting my goals smaller. If I think about the big picture it scares the crap out of me and I get the old self-pity and doubt going. I plan to reward myself for every 5 pounds I lose too. This week I'm getting a new pair of walking shoes and a new CD. I know this seems a little extravagant, but it's been so long since I've been able to stick to a plan for an entire week. Plus I need the walking shoes. My next reward will be less expensive, maybe a new tube of lipstick or something like that. For every 20 pounds I lose I plan to buy a complete new outfit. That means outfit, new undies, shoes, jewelry, and purse if I want it. This is going to be a tough road and the only one who's going to be kind to me is me.

When I reach the crossroads of my journey (when I'm at goal and begin the lifelong process of maintaining) I'm buying myself a new car. A laser red Mustang GT! How's that for motivation?

08-02-2001, 11:47 AM
It is so nice to see an active does so much to help motivate me.

I know that if we stick with this we will see results. I am really looking forward to taking this journey with you all.

08-02-2001, 01:07 PM
Hi Janet,

I have a reward system setup for myself too! This week, I am also being a bit extravagent and getting hi-lites in my hair! As for your walking shoes... that is a great reward!

Fashion is definetly one of my biggest motivators. For most of my adult life, I was a size 8.. and still have a closet full of beautiful size 8's that I haven't been able to wear since I gained my weight.. which was in the summer of 95.

I was a binger who maintained a low weight by extreme dieting and extreme exercise. By extreme dieting.. I mean I would eat nothing for three days.. then everything for three days. Since I never dealt with my real food issues.. when I began eating and letting go of the exercise.. I really ballooned up really fast. Since I had always been able to take it off fast... I kept telling myself I would get back on track "tomorrow". Tomorrow didn't come until 4 years later in August of 99... and I did lose about 25 pounds... but then lost my motivation and gained it all back.

Anyway... I feel very determined this time to just do this and be done with it. My head is in a much better place.. so I feel very optimistic that this will be the time for me that I do this.

08-02-2001, 02:55 PM
I don't know about you guys... but I am going to float away if I have to run to the ladies room one more time! Geeeze!

Oh well.. at least my fingers don't feel like little hotdogs anymore.

Tiger Lily
08-02-2001, 03:02 PM

I'm right there with you! I've worn out the carpet down the hallway at work today!:D Is there some kind of diuretic in Slim Fast?

08-02-2001, 03:04 PM
I know what you mean about the water. I am in the bathroom every 30 minutes. You are right though about the hot dog sensation...when I don't get enough water I feel like that too. I guess it is just another message that our body is sending to us that we need to get into better shape.

Regarding the rewards...I have decided that the day I hit 198 I am going to buy a Bose radio. I ave wanted one for a while, but at $500 I can't let myself just buy one. Instead I decided I would earn it by getting myself under 200 pounds with a 25 pound loss.

For water, try the new Fruit2O. It is made by Veryfine. They are fruit flavored, calorie free bottles of water. Make sure you drink it cold though because it is much more refreshing cold than warm.

08-03-2001, 05:37 AM
crimson  Hello girls, I too need to loose about a hundred pounds.. I weigh 253 pounds.. I had spinal fusion done to my back about two years ago and gained about fifty pounds.. I have tried ww but i find it hard to have to plan and choose the right things to eat.. I agree it will be so much easier to just plan one meal a day..
do you find that your can still loose on useing the slim fast meal bars like once a day?/:?:
I have boughten three flavors of slim fast and got them in the frig and cold ready to start tomorrrow!!!
Good idea about settting the goals low... It is true you have to be good to your self and reward with even just the small things like getting your nails done. Or a hair cut.. I plan to start tann9ng on monday.. starting late but will look nice when the first 20 pounds come off..
I am so glad to find this support group here for slim fast..

Good morning! I hope you are all doing well. I was doing really well yesterday until dinner time. Do not allow yourself to get too hungry before your big meal because you will go overboard  I decided to wait to eat until my boyfriend finished running his errands. Before I knew it 8:00 had come and gone and I had not eaten. I was starving and more than happy to eat the pizza he brought home. Next time I will pop some 96% fat free popcorn and munch on that before dinner to stuff my tummy.

I've had my breakfast shake already this morning. It is so convenient to mix it up and drink it in the car on my way to work. It is harder for me to get my lunchtime shake in. At work, we all eat lunch at our desks and I don't want to advertise to the whole office that I am dieting. So, I try to be sneaky :s: Somedays it is harder to be sneaky than others.

Have a great weekend everyone!

That sounds good! I'll get back with all of you Monday too! Remember we can do this.

08-03-2001, 05:55 PM
Wow!!! It is so nice to see so many people here!!! It sounds like everyone is doing wonderfully. I have always been very interested in the Slim Fast plan and was disappointed when it seemed like the Slim Fast threads were slowing way donw a few months ago. But now I found this thread which seems very active!

I have reached an all-time high of about 230 pounds and am MISERABLE with myself. I want to start the Slim Fast plan as soon as possible. However, I am currently in South Texas (I flew from Ohio), visiting with my parents who I haven't seen in 7 months. Boy, do they have some great BBQ and Mexican food down here, not to mention that my mom is a great cook. I've missed Texas food so much, as well as mom's home-cooking, that I think I'm going to put off starting the SF plan for a couple of days and relax, eat whatever I've been missing and be merry for a few days (I just got here yesterday) just to get it out of my "system". The I'll be ready to begin. LOL!! The good thing is that both my mom and dad have become health-conscious and exercise almost every day.

Anyhow, great to see everyone here!

:) Jennifer

Wow! I go away for a week and look what happens, a whole new set of friends. Girls I started a year ago an have lost 65 pounds. I eat my meal at lunch also. Some hints to try. Eat something every three hours or so. Have a piece of fruit, a lowfat snack or a slimfast snack bar. This helps so much to keep the munchies from getting out of hand. One day a week have something really good. It won't kill you and it makes it easier to stay with the plan. I'm having pizza for dinner! If you don't loose anything for a while don't give up! It is called a plateau and it is just your body getting used to the new weight. And the most important tip of all;come to this wabsite at least once a week!!!! ;)

Hi everyone!! Hope you don't mind me joining.

Hi Kirsten!! I am so happy to see you here. We think alike.

I am starting Slimfast today. I am having problems keeping vitamins down and desperately need them right now, and my doctor suggested Slimfast to me yesterday to get the vitamins. So I decided to just do the weightloss plan, My sister has been on it for several weeks and is doing great.

My stomach is upset though, I hope just a side effect of changing my diet. But I feel more alert and energized, so that is a good sign.

I don't know very much about Slimfast and need guidance. Was anyone really hungry by lunchtime their first day? I was so hungry today and had a bowl of soup with my lunchtime shake. Now feel sick, I may have eaten too much.

Can anyone post their typical daily menu? (I did visit their website)

Since Mrs. Jim closed the 2 new ones even though we were only posting to the Slim Fast #2 thread.

How's everyone doing today? I'm doing great! I love this plan. It's so easy. I don't officially weigh until tomorrow, but I know I'm down at least 2 more pounds, possibly 3. When I'm walking I don't get as out of breath and I seem to have so much more energy for everything else now.

I lost 3 more pounds this week! I can't believe how easy this plan has been to follow the past 2 weeks. I've lost 11 pounds in 2 weeks!

How are the rest of you Slim Fasters doing?

Janet 240/229/140

Hi girls. I started a new thread called success with Slimfast #7. Why not join me there? Mrs Jim Pm,d me about closing the other threads and I agreed with her. There were just too many threads on the same subject and #2 should have been closed three months ago. This is actuall the 6th thread since it was started in the spring!

Isn't that what the little lock represents?

08-14-2001, 01:55 AM
I am just starting slimfast and i was wondering if anyone adds protein powder to slimfast to make you fuller longer.

08-14-2001, 06:26 PM
Hi All,
I am new to this board but not new to the 3FC website. I actually started slimfast a little while ago but didn't stick to it very well. HOWEVER, I am currently at the highest weight I've ever been at with having given birth and I absolutley have to lose this 40lbs. Truth be told, I'd be OK with 30 and would be in hog heaven with 40 - so I'm shooting for 40.

That said, I wanted to reply to Jennifer's post from a couple of days ago. Jennifer you asked if anyone else was really hungry between breakfast and lunch. YES, YES, YES! Your body needs to readjust its eating paterns - this is totally normal. A lot of people make sure to have a low cal/fat snack mid morning to fight off getting overly hungry. I really don't have a problem getting to lunch anymore - if I get hungry I drink some water. Another problem time frame for me was between lunch and dinner. I'll tell you what, nothing was safe in my house by the time I got home from work. Man, talk about a feeding frenzy. The bad part is that I always made something healthy for dinner so if I hadn't consumed a small farm between 5 & 6pm I would have done really well.

Here's what I've done to fix my "down" time: Someone else mentioned the snack bars. I keep those in my desk and have one at about 3:30pm. I also have some sort of fruit with my lunch hour shake and drink loads of water (usually about 80-96oz per day). I also do ediets and use their dinners for my dinner. They have some great lowfat/cal/sodium recipes. I think the slimfast website has good recipes too.

I weigh in tomorrow and will see how the first successful 2 days went. Congrats to all of you that have had so much success with the program. You guys are the reason I keep coming back and snooping - I needed your success to get me motivated and I'll use it to keep me motivated.

Guess I'll end this disertation now. Take care and good luck with the rest of the week!

08-14-2001, 09:28 PM
:o Well.....
Does anyone want to start #8 then? Whoever does needs to PM mrsJim and let her know so she can close this one. If not then We can just keep scanning to the end of this one to keep up with the current news.:p

08-15-2001, 01:11 AM
Hi Kirsten, Janet, Elaine, Vicky, Jennifer and anyone else who I might have missed. My name is Kathy and I'm new to this thread. I started slim-fast yesterday. I weighted myself today, and will weight myself on Tuesday's from now on. I have 100lbs I want to, no need to lose. Several years ago, I injured my achillies heel tendon, and they had to do what they called a wrap. Needless to say, its hindered my activity quiet a bit. I'm only now attempting to do some walking. I love the ease of the slim fast plan. I too tried ww123 and had little luck with the point system. With this plan, I make up my menu for dinner in the morning and forget it until dinner time. The only other problem I have is, which flavor do I want to drink. LOL. I hope to come to know each and everyone of you during my journey to thinness. I hope you don't mind my joining you. Good luck to you all.

Kirstin-- why not put you lunch shake in an insulated cup, or one of the meals on the go bars, in allumminum. No labels.

Hi everyone!!

This is week 2. It is getting better. I have learned how to eat. My first day I was hungry and didn't feel satisifed so I ate soup with my shake and it made me sooo sick because the slimfast didn't get its chance to expand in my stomach and fill me up.

Lifer - I am not as hungry between breakfast and lunch anymore but instead I am starving by dinner. I need to get a better snack for after lunch. The slimfast snack bar isn't doing the job, any suggestions?

I am keeping the cans in my backseat so I can always have access to a shake. The cans are getting a little bit expensive, so I am going to buy a can of the powder for home (weekends). Although I will say that one 8-can box is cheaper than 1 lunch out for my DH.

I decided to start running outside of work during lunch. They built a track/trail for the employees. I ran it Monday twice, and thought I would die, later found out I ran 4 miles. Yesterday I ran 4 miles, walked 1 mile, ran 1 mile. I didn't know that I had it in me. But it was so extremeley tough. I also have been going to the gymon top of that.

I just hope I stay motivated.

Talk to you all later!!

Tiger Lily
08-15-2001, 02:37 PM
Hi Jenny and Kathy!

Welcome Kathy, I think that as you adjust to the plan you'll really like it. I do. I don't think about food all the time anymore and that was a much needed change.

My goodness! You can run 4 miles? I'm not sure I could run 4 feet! Maybe I can do that when I'm not 89 pounds overweight.

I got hungry quite often my first week, but now that I'm into my 3rd week on the plan, things have improved tremendously. I sometimes have difficulty eating all of my lunch. (I have Slim Fast at breakfast and dinner).

Nice having you in our group. When I started Slim Fast on July 27th, I had 100 pounds to lose too! Now I've only got 89 to lose! However, I'm focusing on 5 pounds at a time so I won't give up!

jenny 1

Janet -- Do you mind me asking what you have been doing to lose weight so quickly. Can you take me through an average day?

I would be jumping for joy if I would lose 11 lbs that fast. I am really heaping on the exercise to help myself get started.

How do your meals go/look like (again if you don't mind). I am just really curious about how other people are doing this. The SlimFast website gives ok menu examples but I want to see what "real" people are doing.

I am not as hungry in week 2 for breakfast and lunch. It's the time between snack 2 and dinner and snack 3 that I am starving through.

I think that 89 lbs to go is great and you will be there in no time. A good friend started his diet (Dr. Atkins) last May starting weight 503 lbs. as of yesterday he is 348lbs. If he can do it I am positive that anyone with the desire to lose can as well, he has inspired me to get moving and to stick with my diets and workouts.

Has anyone tried the smoothie recipes on the Slimfast website? I am afraid to experiment. If anyone has a good shake/smoothie recipe and wouldn't mind sharing it, I will be grateful.

08-15-2001, 05:29 PM
Hi everyone. I've been experimenting with the slim-fast foods. So far there isn't one I've come across that I don't like. Today is day three for me. I was out shopping with my daughter today and I did notice that between breakfast and lunch around 11:30 I was beginning to get a little shaky. I suffer from a slight case of hypoglyciemea, so I figured that was the cause. When we got into the store, Super wal mart, I bought a box of meal on the go bars, went to the Mc donals, inside the store, ordered a cup of tea and ate one of the bars. With in minutes, I was feeling better. Yet the rest of the day, I've felt a bit disoriented, can't quiet put my finger on it. But I've stuck to my guns and have followed the plan. I'm just hoping tomarrow proves a bit clearer. Have a good day everyone.

Hi Jenni,

I don't think I've done anything really special. I try to follow the Slim Fast guidelines. I have a shake for breakfast, a snack bar midmorning, I eat my meal at lunch, I have a piece of fruit for a snack and then I have a shake for dinner. When I started the plan, my ankles had been really swollen and puffy so I know that a substantial amount of my loss was fluid. I drink alot of water and I walk 30 minutes per day now. I've cut out caffeine and sodas. I also try to watch my sodium intake because the combination of being overweight and the heat and humidity here in Ga. along with my desk job really cause me to hold water.

I'm sure that my weight loss will slow down now that I've had a big drop. I don't mind as long as I lose weight.

08-16-2001, 02:37 PM
Hi everyone. I started the plan on Monday, weighted myself on tuesday. I was 259.5. I promised myself that I wouldn't weight in again until next tuesday. BUT, I woke up this morning and I felt thinner. SO, I weighted myself. 2 lbs gone. I'm so happy. I love this plan, my brother and my youngest daughter along with my husband are all on this way of eating. It makes for an easier transition because where ever I visit, slim fast is there. Have a good on program day everyone. Wishing you all a weight lose.

Janet --- Thanks for replying. So I got from your list:

2. Cut the colas (even diet)
3. Watch the salt
4. Exercise daily
5. stick to the SF plan

Do you think that eating your meal at lunch time rather than at dinner time is making any difference?

Hi Kathy -- Congrats on 2lbs gone that is a great start. I am so scared to weigh right now because I just don't want to know what my scale will say, I tend to retain water in spurts and really never know from day to day what I really weigh. As I see my body change I might get brave enough to weigh. I do see some changes, but can't tell if I have lost, gained, or just not bloated. Just keep posting your losses. It might inspire me to jump aboard my scale.

Gotta run!

Tiger Lily
08-17-2001, 01:29 PM
Hi Everyone! Elaine, Where are you?

Kathy, Good for you on the 2 pounds! It is hard to stay off the scale when you just know you've lost.

I do believe that eating at lunch makes a difference. I have a desk job and by eating at lunch I get more time to burn off the calories. I actually feel better when I don't eat at night now. The Slim Fast shake fills me up and I rest better.

As for my weigh in this morning, I've stayed the same this week. I kind of expected that I would because 11 pounds is alot for 2 weeks. I think when you have a big loss like that your body goes through an adjustment period. Hopefully, I'll have a good loss next Friday.

I hope all of you have a great weekend!

Janet 240/229/140

08-17-2001, 04:27 PM
Hi everyone. Like I promised, I haven't weighted myself today. I'll wait until tuesday. Besides, I felt a bit bloated today and didn't want to see a gain. Does everyone use the snack bars, gosh they're so good, they're almost addicting. I love the peanut butter one, its like a butter finger and I love them. I've had to fight to stay a way from them. That's terrible when your diet food is so good you want to over eat it. LOL But they are. REALLY. I did have two, snack bars, over yesterday. I thought I'd make it up today, by cutting back, then I though I should just do today as planned and forget about yesterday. Has anyone else come across this problem? Thanks for listening.

08-17-2001, 05:29 PM
Hi All,
Too funny Kathy. The peanut butter bars are my favorite too. I agree 100% that they taste like butter fingers. They also seem to last a little longer because they're so crunchy. It's like you're able to savor the chocolate/peanut butter even longer. I only keep them at work so I don't have a problem with eating them at home. I usually save them at work for around 3:30pm when I'm really hungry. If you can believe it, my kids (5.5 & 8) love them. I don't mind them eating those since they have more nutrients than the normal one. If they haven't had one for a while they'll actually bug me to buy some - anything for the kids right? LOL.

I've had a pretty good week. We had a company picnic last night and I managed to only eat a little pasta salad and a lean cut of steak. My son had a bunch of chips on his plate and said he was done - well you know that pick off your kids plate instinct started to take over. At first I told him not to throw his plate away so I could have some of his chips then I thought, "NO, there's no need to not eat normal tonight." So I told him to go throw his plate away before I changed my mind. I even managed to go for a walk once we got home for the evening.

I weighed in this morning and found I had lost 3lbs. Not as much as I had hoped for but hey 3lbs lost is better than 3lbs gained.

Congrats to all the other losers this week. Have a good weekend.

I hope all of you had a great weekend! Mine was OK, nothing special.

Kathy, the peanut butter bars are my favorite too! You're right about them being better for your kids than the regular Butter Finger. Just think about how big a Butter Finger is, the calorie content and the fact that there is zero nutrition in them and it's not hard to choose the Slim Fast version. I'm proud of you for not getting on the scale. It's really hard not to sometimes.

Good for you on the 3 pounds! Just think of it as 12 sticks of butter melted off your bod! You know 4 sticks from the waist, 4 from the hips, and 4 from the thighs! Feel better about your loss now?;)

Elaine, Cowgirl and anyone else I've missed, post and let us know how you're doing.
