100 lb. Club - 4/3/3 Challenge

View Full Version : 4/3/3 Challenge

01-28-2006, 05:19 PM
I see you guys have your own challenge on this forum, but I'm wondering if anyone would like to also join mine? I'm setting baby step goals. First goal is only 4 pounds. When I reach that one I will set a new goal for 3 pounds. Then another 3. By the time the 4/3/3 cycle is done we'll be 10 pounds lighter! But I can't look at 10 pounds and say I'm going to lose 10 pounds. It seems too far away. By breaking it down into little tiny chunks, I feel like I can do it.

Anyone can lose 4 or 3 pounds right? It's like cleaning your house. When you look at the whole messy thing it overwhelms you and feels impossible to ever get it clean. But if you set a timer and just do what you can for 15 minutes, you feel a real sense of accomplishment. You say "HEY I did it and that wasn't hard at all! And look how much nicer it looks!"

Same way with baby steps for our weight. "HEY I did it" is nice. It helps me stay motivated! I've already "done it" three times this month alone, and I know it works. I'm ready and determined to meet that next little 4 pound goal.

Do you want to join me?

I like your idea of breaking our weight goal into smaller, manageable, pieces. I think it will help to celebrate each goal rather than looking at the more than 100 lbs that I need to lose. This is my third week on WW and it is beginning to feel a little daunting. I think this will help. Great idea.:strong: :strong: :strong:

You lost 30 pounds in a month!!!!!! Wow...I have been trying to do the 10 pound a month thing. I am 2 pounds shy of my 10. I think I have a couple of days left ;) I like the idea of the 4/3/3...maybe I will do it with you!!

P.S....what is your method of loosing weight??? Counting calories, at grams, or carbs?? Well, what ever it, it seems to be working great for you. Just curious!

01-29-2006, 12:52 AM
No no no! I didn't lose 30 pounds in a month... Gee wouldn't that be nice! Sorry if you thought that. I have lost 16.5 pounds in about a month and a half though. No the 30 was from my highest weight ever (back in 2000). At that time I lost 50 pounds in about 8 months, and kept it off for awhile (several years), and have since then been bad and began gaining some of it back. (In January I've lost 12.5 lbs).

But I have 30 of it still off, and I'm trying to get back where I was and then some.

My method of losing is Atkins low carb. It works for me because I'm never hungry and if I am, I can eat yummy delicious food that is healthy and filling.

But I don't expect everyone on the challenge to do it with my method. Any method you choose is fine. It is just about setting small goals and reaching them.

Welcome to the challenge. It is much easier setting baby step goals!

I've started this challenge on several different forums here, on the challenges forum, on the low carb forum and here. So we already have several people from each forum signed up. Maybe when we see which of the groups is the most active we can all meet on that one forum to encourage each other.

My first 1.5 pounds left for the 4 pound goal.! Funny how the markers round it to two pounds though. It wasn't, only a pound and a half.

01-30-2006, 09:26 PM
Hi Sherry

I weigh in tomorrow evening -- we'll see how I do our the 4/3/3 challenge. I've lost 7 lbs on the program so far, so I'm working on that last 3 pounds.

01-31-2006, 08:40 PM
Got 2 more pounds for me left!!!! (I weigh in on Sundays)

01-31-2006, 09:24 PM
Congratulations! I love that! My scale is up today because I had too much salt in my meal last night (water retention). But I'm not worrying about that, it will wash out soon.

01-31-2006, 09:34 PM
OK - i'm in. I like the idea of 4/4/3!

01-31-2006, 09:38 PM
Welcome surfdreams! I like it too. Something about little goals keeps you trying. You know it won't be long until you can celebrate!

01-31-2006, 09:52 PM
Had a good weigh in this evening. I've lost my first 10 lbs. Yippee!!! Ready to start on my next 4/3/3. :p :strong:

Good job Valelys!

02-01-2006, 02:21 AM
Wow YOU GO Valelys! with 10 pounds down and 4/3/3 to go it should be a breeze to meet that next goal.

02-02-2006, 12:32 PM
Well this morning my scale went to my lowest (recent) weight immediately. I usually weigh first thing and then after I've been up a few hours and used the bathroom a few times I weigh again and count the lowest number I see as my weight. So I expect that in a short time I might just have a new number to report! I love it.

For me the scale will "dip" a little and then tease me for a few days until that new number settles in and lasts. Once it has settled in, the new lower number will start to show up, so I can always anticipate when I'll see a new one.

Another way I can tell? Sometimes at night after a particularly good day, I'll weigh. If the scale isn't up that much from the morning weight, then I know I should see a loss the next day. So I'm really hoping that this morning I will see 250 or 249.5 or something!

02-02-2006, 03:54 PM
Ok, I made it 250. Two more pounds and I'll be at my 4 goal!

02-03-2006, 02:46 PM
another half pound off today, 1.5 pounds to go to be at my 248 goal!

02-03-2006, 04:07 PM
Friday is my weigh in day and I have lost 2.5 lbs!!

02-03-2006, 04:09 PM
Yea!! Yea! (listen to the sound of someone cheering!)

02-03-2006, 09:32 PM
Hooray for you! Good going, keep it up!

02-03-2006, 09:35 PM
Thank you SherryA so much for the encouragement. At times I feel lost and not a part of any group.

02-11-2006, 02:42 PM
Ok I lost one more half a pound! I'm within half a pound of my first 4 pound goal! (And I've lost exactly 20 pounds in 2 months, starting Dec 12th)!

This last little bit of weight is coming off very slowly though. I've only lost 2 pounds since the 30th of January. I guess I need to get used to the idea that now that the initial weight is gone it is going to take a little time for the rest of it.

Oh and Surfdreams? 2.5 pounds is Wonderful! We can do it if we keep on trying!

02-12-2006, 12:07 AM
OK I got it. That little one more half pound I was looking at... My first 4 pound goal has been met, now for the first 3 pound goal.

02-14-2006, 09:12 PM
My first pound of the first 3 part of the challenge left today. 2 more to go.

02-15-2006, 03:43 PM
1 more pound gone today at 246. One more pound to go to 245 for my first 3 part of the challenge. After that 3 more and I will be down 10 from where I started.

02-25-2006, 10:56 PM
I like this challenge and I think I'll join you ladies. I'm ready to lose my first 4 lbs!

02-26-2006, 07:29 AM
I would like to join too. Thinking about weight loss as 4/3/3 is much better than looking at the whole thing. I feel so overwhelmed sometimes because it is taking so long to lose all this weight. Thanks SherryA for starting this challenge!

02-27-2006, 08:08 AM
Wow was I surprised this morning when I weighed myself and found I had lost 5 lbs since last week. I must have really been retaining water but I am sure some of that is fat.

02-27-2006, 10:05 PM
Hey that is GREAT! five pounds?

I've been having a really hard month. I made my first 4 pound goal, was within 1 pound of my first 3 pound goal and then I had a day off and everything went backwards on me. So for this whole month I've lost 4 pounds total, but only 2 of them have stayed off.

And I've been good ALL month long (except for parts of 3 days).

So I guess for March I'm going to have to regroup. Look at this more clearly and see what it is that I need to change if anything. I may not be eating enough calories. I feel thinner, which is the weird part. But the scale is being stubborn.

03-03-2006, 12:20 PM
Good morning challengers!

I had an unexpected WHOOSH! this morning. All last month I hung in there with my diet, not seeing much progress. So today finally I get rewarded. In one day I hit two of my goals! Yesterday the scale was at 245.5 (so one half pound above my first 3 part of the 4/3/3 challenge. Then this morning it went down not just one half pound to my first goal, but a whole 3.5 pounds to my second 3!

That means that I have completed my full 4/3/3 challenge. Lost 10 pounds from when I started this thread!

Now on to the next 4/3/3. My next goal is 238!

03-04-2006, 10:10 AM
I like your 4/3/3 plan and would love to join in. I will offically start on Monday because I am currently working on one of my short term 5lb goals which ends then.

03-05-2006, 12:27 AM
Welcome! I'm currently working on my second 4, so we will be starting the cycle together. I'm already down by one pound of it though. 3 more pounds to that next goal! It is really funny how weight comes off sometimes though. Some months nothing or very very slow, and then suddenly a lot of weight at once! That is what happened to me in the last couple of days after waiting and waiting and waiting.

03-05-2006, 02:00 PM
I would also like to do the mini goal also. I now weight in at 253 wouldnt mind getting that 4 pounds off then 3 then 3 again. So is it like a day that well all get started and and so on.

03-05-2006, 02:50 PM
Hi! I'd love to join your 4/3/3 group here. I've currently been stuck at 269-270 for a few weeks, and although I am walking and watching my food and portion sizes, and have cut out soda completely, I can't seem to get the scale to budge.. I hope that part of it is just that TOM is here. I'm onboard as of today, and can't wait to get started on my first 4 pounds.

03-14-2006, 12:21 PM
Well dont know if this 4/3/3 still going on but, I am still doing it I like the mini goal. So far I am almost to my 4 pound weight lost. Have 1 more pound to go then I can go to my 3 pound. Just wanted to do a update.:)

03-14-2006, 01:45 PM
Great Going Lesa! Yes I'm still doing it. I'm not losing very fast right now, but I did get through 4/3/3 once since starting this thread. Unfortunately at the moment I'm up from the second 3 and maybe even the first. I had a bad week last week, and deviated from my diet just enough to put a little weight back on. So I'm in a "relosing" phase! Hate that!

But I am not giving up. Little baby step goals will get us to our bigger goals, if we keep setting them.

03-14-2006, 07:47 PM
Thats good dont give up Sherry. Well wishing you the best of luck. :)

03-15-2006, 02:36 AM
Thanks you too. I'm hoping you'll lose that one more pound soon! It feels so weird to be within just ONE pound of a goal. I had that happen several times last month and then whoosh, in one day I was down from that one pound to goal number 2 and not only that but down the next 3 pounds too! It was quite a surprise. But one week of off plan eating brought a bunch of water back on so now I have to relose.... I do Atkins, which is usually really quick weight loss if you stick to plan, but the slightest deviations can bring a lot of water weight back on really fast. It goes away again with only a few more days of being very careful and good about what you are eating, but you really can't cheat at all on this plan without expecting some rapid gains. Particularly if you eat grains. They tend to hold in the water so that the scale can just 5 or 6 pounds if you consume them and also a little water and salt!

That is why I'm not really worried about the increase in the scale, I know it isn't fat, it is just retained water... Still I do want it off again so I can start pursuing my next 4 pound goal.

03-22-2006, 02:01 PM
I am still doing the 4/3/3 challenge well finally completed my first 4 pounds plus 2 extra pounds so that bring me to 1 pound left of my first 3 pounds. Well weight in at now 247 so that is so good. :) just wanted to share:)

03-22-2006, 03:17 PM
I'd like to join in this challenge. When I do it 3 times over I'll be just over half way to goal! I will not do a ticker - just a line in my sig I think. It's already long enough I guess.

03-25-2006, 08:38 PM
I lost my first 4 lbs!!! :carrot:

03-27-2006, 12:04 AM
Tiffany: HEY that is great! 4 pounds is wonderful Now you are ready to keep on going with the next mini goal!

Oh and welcome Mom... I love this way of setting goals. It is achievable. Every little step is a victory.

03-28-2006, 10:29 AM
Congrats Tiffany keep up the good work:)

I lost 2 more pounds so I finally finished my first 3 pound now on the other 3 pounds. I now weight in at 245 YAY ME LoL:)

03-28-2006, 12:16 PM
Go Lesa! Great job! 3 lbs is nothing!!!

03-29-2006, 12:08 AM
Ok I'm going to jump back into this, I kinda fell off the fast track and landed on the doughnut wagon. I offically started my first 4/3/3 challenge on Monday.

03-29-2006, 01:57 PM
Sounds like everyone is doing well. Lesa great going!

Trazzie you can do it!

And Tiffany you are really close to your second goal looks like! I love small goals they make you feel so powerful!

03-29-2006, 02:45 PM
Thanks Sherry so much I am also loving the small goals they come so quick lol. :) It's better then me waiting to lose 20 pounds 4 and 3 pounds is much easier to lose. :) Ha just realize we both at the same 245 but, I started off at 283 you started off at 282 so close race huh lol. :)Wishing you luck Sherry:)

03-30-2006, 11:50 PM
Well a lot of the weight I'm having to "re" lose. Hate that. I was down to 232 after 8 months in 2000. I'm aiming to get back there. But baby steps. Today I'm 244.5 2.5 pounds more to be back at my 2nd 3 part of the challenge.

This thing is always kind of a couple of steps forward and then a step or two back for me. I keep having to relose some of the same weight. I try and not worry about it too much. Mostly when you do low carb, it is easy to gain back some water weight with just small deviations.

Anyway a few days of serious committment and sticking to plan and it comes back off again. Still I should be working on my 238 goal right now, I was as low as 241 just a short time ago.

But we can't give up. Keep on keeping on even with a few backward steps thrown in.

03-31-2006, 12:35 AM
Sherry you will get it you will be back there. I am also trying to get back to my 241 where I was back in September but, gain from the holidays well from me not watching what I eat and I just got lazy and didnt workout anymore went back up to 263 but, now on a roll I am 4 pounds from 241 where i was before.

Soon you will be there again :cheer: to Sherry I am doing the happy dance for you.:)

04-04-2006, 01:16 PM
Ok I lost that second 3 plus another pound so now I am back to my 4/3/3 again for the second time;) so now I weight in at 241 where I was at before gaining weight again:)

04-12-2006, 10:12 PM
Well I'm at 238.5 so I'm within one half pound of my second 4 part of my second 4/3/3 challenge.

I had to get really extreme to get here but I don't care I'll take it any way I need to just to get here.

04-13-2006, 10:31 AM
I'm still trying to lose this last 1 lbs of my first challenge. Hopefully this week or early next week I'll be moving on to 4/3/3 #2!!!

04-15-2006, 01:47 PM
Good for you Tiffany, I had to get extreme to even make the end of the first one, I kept backsliding. But I can happily report that I have completed the second 4/3/3 challenge and am 1 pound on my way to my third "4". I have an advantage that makes it unfair if anyone is comparing. So don't worry about that. Just keep on plugging away. We can do this thing!

04-25-2006, 10:32 AM
I finally made it to the end of my first 4/3/3 challenge!!! And I'm 1lb into the second!!!! Yay!!!!

04-25-2006, 11:59 AM
WTG Tiffany!! You beat me to the first 10 off - I think we started at the same time on this challenge? I'm within .5 pound of losing the first leg of the challenge. After that 2 more and I'm half way to goal. I like taking it in little steps too.

04-25-2006, 03:23 PM
Thanks Nori! I like this challenge too. You'll be there in no time. Keep up the great work!
