Default Clamato Juice

I am new to the SBD and am currently reading the book so I and a few friends can start on Monday. The grocery shopping will be done tomorrow.

I see that on Phase 1 tomato and V8 or vegetable juice is ok but is clamato juice allowed?

Thanks

DDL, I did a search through the book and the GFGC guide (good fat/Good Carb guide) and clamato juice isn't mentioned... I found info on the most popular brand "Motts" and it looks like there is no sugar added... So as long as your juice is 3g of sugar or less, you can enjoy on Phase 1..(I don't know what I would do if Tomato Juice wasn't allowed !)

Whoops! I just checked this out on Fitday and it looks like Clamato is NOT a great choice.
Here's the Info on 8 fluid ounces:

V8 has 46 calories, 11 carbs, 2 fiber and 2 protein
Clamato has 116 calories, 26 carbs, 0 fiber and 1 protein

Best stick with V8 as Clamato has more than double calories and carbs and no fiber.

Schatzi, I have my own software version which seems more complete than the online freebie.

Default Soy

hi,

I've just started the SBD and i was wondering are soy products allowed on the 1st phase? I read that we can drink soy milk, but what about soy meat and other products?

HI Grizzly, soy products are allowed ... Here is an extract of the Food List for Phase 1, note some items have portion limits.

Soy Crumbles - 1/4 cup (2 oz) suggested serving
Soy Nuts - 1/4 cup for a protein snack is suggested serving
Tempeh 1/4 cup suggested serving
Tofu All varieties, 1/2 cup suggested serving
Yuba (Bean Curd or Sheet)

Low-fat plain, vanilla, or sucralose-containing soy milk (4 grams of fat or less per 8 ounce serving). Be sure the product does not contain high fructose corn syrup

Here is a link that will be most helpful as you start....

Hi DJ..I think HKO answered this on the daily chat today...
The thing to watch on these prepackaged items are things like
partially hydrogenized oils.. These are bad fats, and the sugars...like
corn syrup and dextrose, (any of those "ose"s ).
When I want to make an onion soup mix for pot roasts, I use low fat beef stock or bouillon cube, onion flakes, and spices like pepper, garlic powder, pinches of parsley and thyme and sage..It taste the same to me ..
Hope we were able to help you with substituting!
