I really want to try LA Weightloss but I called and it would be around $400.00 for me to lose 50lbs. And that is 50% off the regular cost. :?:
LA Weight Loss - I can't afford this dietView Full Version : I can't afford this diet fatgirl_79 12-13-2005, 05:19 PM I really want to try LA Weightloss but I called and it would be around $400.00 for me to lose 50lbs. And that is 50% off the regular cost. :?: textjewel 12-13-2005, 05:45 PM From what I understand, they WILL work with you if you don't have all the money up front. Just keep on saying - I can't afford that -- and see what happens? It may end up costing more in the long run, since you may not be eligible for the 50% off price, but at least you can try it and see if you like it. Good luck! Julie fatgirl_79 12-13-2005, 05:48 PM :?: That is what I thought too, but when I told her that I couldn't afford that much up front she said okay and hung up. Maybe I should try back. shennie_97 12-13-2005, 05:57 PM write now there is a $3 special going on, if the center you called si saying they don't have it...go to the laweightloss website and you can print out the coupon and take it there. for 50 lbs, you are looking at about 25 weeks of weightloss+ 6 weeks of stabilization +52 weeks of maintenance. wich should be about $250. Also you can start off with a lower WL amount if you'd like and you can always buy more weighloss weeks later (but $3 is the best deal they ussually ever have) you can also go in and negotiate your plan. some people have only done a few of the maintenacne weeks and that really cuts down on the amount. Please know that there are other things that they will try to sell you after this...just so you won't be surpirsed. The protein bars, supplements, etc are additional, but you DO NOT need them to loose, plenty of people have done it without them. If you know anyone who is doing the program, there is also a friends and family discount, but i don't know if that applies when you get a discount to start. shennie_97 12-13-2005, 05:59 PM :?: That is what I thought too, but when I told her that I couldn't afford that much up front she said okay and hung up. Maybe I should try back. is there another center close to you. I don't like the fact that she just hung up when you said you can't afford it. They at least try to go for a sale ussually, that was just poor business fatgirl_79 12-13-2005, 06:18 PM There are several locations in the area I work but this one is 2 minutes from my office and I could weigh in on my lunch breaks because I don't have time to go after work. She said the price was normally $10 a week but they were 50% off right now also she said I would have to pay $69.99 sign up fee. shennie_97 12-13-2005, 06:21 PM yeah, i forgot about the sign-up lab fee. but still you should be able to get the weeks for the $3 with the coupon. And the reason I had said to check out aonther center was becaus eI just don't like the centers that are "sales focused" but that is my personal opion, so don't let it hinder you. I Weigh-in at luch and that works great for me, so I understand how important that is. cmuller 12-13-2005, 07:21 PM Well, I bought the entire plan off of ebay. Maybe you could try that. Just use the boards here as your support system. My package had everything...all colors, recipe for different meals, recipe for juice, carbocravers, fast food list, frozen food list and so much more. Including shipping it was only about 42 bucks! deetsmom 12-13-2005, 07:33 PM No disrespect cmuller, but thats not the entire plan..the one on one counseling (for those of us who have good centers) and the financial investment is part of the program. The accountability of going in three times a week and having someone to trouble shoot with (I have a fairly competent center and appreciate their help in addition to the support here) and determine my plan direction are HUGE in terms of the program. I also have a tendency to be much stricter because I have made a financial investment that I do not intend to waste. I think some people CAN do it on their own, but would not dissuade someone from going in to check things out first hand..just my two cents. deetsmom 12-13-2005, 07:35 PM Also, when you say you cant afford the program...think about what you spend money on. Are you current food habits inline with spending money on prepackaged foods, take out, fast food? All that costs a lot of money, so do the health complications that can arise from staying overweight. Money can be an obstacle certainly, but think about your end-goal and ask if maybe its not just an excuse (???) $3/wk is a bargain for all you will get, believe me. fatgirl_79 12-13-2005, 09:51 PM No $3/week isn't that bad, but at the center I would go to it is $5/week right now, normally $10/week. Plus from what I have now heard from others they will try to push the bars and supplements on me. I can do this on my own. I just have to have will power. I have to want better for myself. I would rather spend that $400 on my son than at LAWL. cmuller 12-13-2005, 10:42 PM I felt that way too about money better spent on family things. That's why i figured that 42 bucks wasn't so bad, and really....knowing that I can't afford all of that money up front is what's motivating me to make this work on my own. My son is 13....how old is yours? deetsmom 12-13-2005, 10:51 PM I hear you, I have three sons...but my health is ultimately paramount..if they have a heavy, unhappy mommy I am not helping them..just my opinion though. You can get the coupon on the website for $3/wk through 12-31-05. The centers MUST honor that coupon. Pressure is applied for products by SOME centers, but is NOT mandatory and lots of us do NOT buyt he products. All I am saying is that sometimes will power isnt all thats needed (coming from someone who did every diet on their own over the years and did WW for 2 years previous). eBay materials and the free advice here from people who pay a lot of money for the program is only half the deal in my opinion. Just my opinion though. marbear 12-13-2005, 11:40 PM I agree with cathy on this one. Both of my parents have passed away, and you can give your children no better gift than the gift of A) your health and B) you modeling how to be a healthy, normal weight adult. Honestly, at $3/week, you can refuse to do bars (and just get more regular food). Whatever you would buy your kids with that money would probably get forgotten or outgrown within a year or two. You adding time or happiness to your life can impact them forever. cmuller 12-14-2005, 08:00 AM those are are very valid points. and, if you could actually pay $3 week that would be great. but, some people don't have a $500 to pay up front. This is where i'm saying that you have to make changes within yourself. I am getting the same health benefits from the weight loss that you are even though i am not going to a center. Correct me if i'm wrong...but you seem a bit bitter that people are getting things off of ebay....especially with that "free advice" comment. my understanding was that we are here to support each other, i'm sorry if i (and others) can't afford the center. And by all means, please know that you are not required to give us any "free advice." deetsmom 12-14-2005, 08:47 AM Not bitter at all...I am an ebay powerseller actually, so thats an ironic comment. This is a VERY supporting board. Like everyone else said, the centers do work with you and there is no substitute, IN MY OPINION, for the real thing. textjewel 12-14-2005, 09:10 AM Just another thought - you don't have to stay at the center you sign up at - - check another center, see if it's cheaper, and then transfer to the one closer to your work? You are supposed to be able to WI at any center in the US. I'm pretty sure Shennie changed her center. Julie shennie_97 12-14-2005, 10:55 AM yeah, i did change my centers and it was pretty easy...just said i want to come here now and they did all the work. In reference to us being bitter for peopl who got plans off of e-bay. I don't feel that way and i am pretty sure Deets doesn't either, but when someone comes onto the board, i think we try to give them the best advice possible and for us the best advice is to use the centers. There are numerous things that will relate directly to yu that you will need assitance on and we all support each other here, whether you go to the center of not (in fact, Mary doesn’t go to the centers and she is wonderful support to others and receives wonderful support in return). However, there are certain things that I don’t feel we are able to give concrete advice on here that could be gotten at a center. Also for people who have tried other diets, this becomes just that-another diet, if you don’t have the commitment put into it (by having to go to a center and having someone in “real life” to be held accountable too.) I love the chicks on here and I have developed enough of a relationship with them that I feel as if I couldn’t just leave them, but that took time. $3 a week is a wonderful deal and I truly believe that someone who wanted to use the center could go in and get a deal for their WL weeks and Stabilization and not come out of an abundance of $. The program does change from time o time and going to the center you know you have the most up-to-date information. For example, things like the take-off juice recipe are not in the current plan. Please do what works best for you and your family, you do not want to hate anything you are trying to make a commitment too or feel like you are being taken advantage of. But I have to step in there for deets, and say that she is one of the sweetest chicks on here and she is giving advice as someone who is practically at her goal, so her advice would weigh very highly in my book. Please come on over to the monthly thread, both of you, and get all of the support, advice and anything else you need, whatever your decision is. emmysmom 12-14-2005, 11:03 AM I have to agree with Deets...LAWL is the ONLY program that has ever worked for me. I did it before my baby was born and now I'm trying to lose the baby weight. I don't think that deets was trying to insult anyone by saying that we give "free" advice here...we are definitely here to support each other no matter how you get the program info. But, I could have done the program from what I learned the first time, but I NEED the accountability by weighing in at the center and talking to the counselors...and that is where the benefits far outweigh the cost (for me). Personally, if I would do this program on my own, I would fail. It just doesn't hurt to talk to a center and see what they have to say and then make a decision based on your needs. That's my 2 cents... fatgirl_79 12-14-2005, 11:05 AM I didn't mean to get an argument started here, I was just trying to get some information about the plan and see if anyone was doing it on their own. The money would not be so bad it you could pay it over time but I don't have that much money up front. I can not magically make the money appear, it just isn't there. I am not giving up I know lots of people that have lost weight on different plans this is not my only option I was just wanting to try something different than what I have been doing in the past. My 6-month old son will have a healthy mother. He is my life and I am going to do whatever I can to make sure I am healthy for him. Also on the website I went to (www.lafreetolive.com) there is no promotion for $3/week. You have to enter a zip code first so maybe it is only available in some areas. :dizzy: shennie_97 12-14-2005, 11:25 AM i'm sorry i should have said which website, I didn't know there was another one out there.:dizzy: www.laweightloss.com (http://www.laweightloss.com) ont he right side it says internet promotion, click there emmysmom 12-14-2005, 11:27 AM Try www.laweightloss.com... Chklithunder 12-14-2005, 11:38 AM The money would not be so bad it you could pay it over time but I don't have that much money up front. I can not magically make the money appear, it just isn't there. Hi All. FG79 - You CAN pay the money over time, that's what I did! I went in when the weeks were $3, refused any supplements (other than lites) and flat out told them that I could not afford the full program cost upfront (I have 2 sons too). I have gotten tired of going to the center, and figured that I could go it on my own, but I have found that for all the problems I have with the center, I do better when I go than when I don't go. At $3 per week, its a steal, and worth looking into. I think the person you talked to on the phone probably did not want to go into particulars over the phone, because there is so much information that they go over with you during the consultation, including payment options. Remember, the consultation is free - it only costs a bit of your time in person which is a small investment to make. brittyboo07 12-14-2005, 11:44 AM Just an FYI it doesnt matter which site you go to you will still get the same promotion and it is done by areas. In my area right now its 6 weeks free. I would be interested to know if the person you spoke with was the manager or not. You might want to call back and speak with the manager they do offer financing. I could not have afforded to pay mine up front either but i have finanaced mine and its 90 days same as cash so whatever you can get paid off wont have a finance charge on it. Usually the manager will try and work with you all they can. Give it your best shot to go through the center and if in the end you cant afford it then try it on your own. It can't hurt right. Good luck and let us know what you decide also like others have said there are some here that are doing this on their own we are all here for the same reason to become healthier, lose weight, exercise (right star), and support each other since we are going through the same thing! I look forward to hearing from you again and seeing you over on the regular monthly board. Britt fatgirl_79 12-14-2005, 11:48 AM Thanks everyone for the information. I called back and the price is still $5/week. I don't think I am going to try this plan right now. brittyboo07 12-14-2005, 12:03 PM GL with whatever plan you decide on. Britt Star 12-14-2005, 12:19 PM Geez - You guys must of given TMI:?: She quit before she ever started:shrug: fatgirl_79 12-14-2005, 12:38 PM I have not quit my weightloss journey, I have just decided to follow a different path. Star 12-14-2005, 12:41 PM I was just giving my chicks a hard time....no offense met fatgirl.... juliemarie 12-14-2005, 12:43 PM I need to buy more weeks and I have gone to the website-but there are no internet promotions for my zip code apparently. So just beware that this $3/week isn't for every center. deetsmom 12-14-2005, 01:11 PM Sheesh...where did this thread go wrong...LOL:) Chklithunder 12-14-2005, 01:14 PM Deets it went wrong because you have too many opinions. Chklithunder 12-14-2005, 01:14 PM Deets - PLEASE KNOW I WAS JUUUST KIDDING!!! deetsmom 12-14-2005, 01:15 PM A little over the top, huh? Good catching that- tee hee! I guess also not enough excuses. deetsmom 12-14-2005, 01:15 PM ABSOLUTELY, I didnt notice till you did...I REALLY said that a lot- LOL!!!! Star 12-14-2005, 01:29 PM  Do you want my two cents or JUST MY OPINON?????? deetsmom 12-14-2005, 01:31 PM How bout IMHO (in my humble opinion) that one was coming next... Star 12-14-2005, 01:33 PM here's a new one for ya "IMWIWLT" - In my world it works like this...LOL shennie_97 12-14-2005, 01:38 PM Star, what would we do without you around here:D Star 12-14-2005, 01:46 PM Shennie - Oh probably just get along great......without my peanut gallery remarks.......... truecanadianangel 12-14-2005, 01:50 PM good morning all chicki's. deetsmom: no offense but i do have to say you did sound alittle gruchie at times on this thread. but to also defend your grouchienest i will agree that there is no price you can put on your health. now to defend fatgirl_79- first i dont think you should be calling yourself fatgirl. that alone seeing people calling you that here can do bad things for your self asteam. I called my center and there is NO internet special that is offered across the world, diffrent places offer their own specials. so just because one place is 3.00 and another can be 5.00. I understand that money can be tight, but the best wy is to go to the cente, talk to the manager. dont do eveything ove the phone. it cost nothing o go in. if you want to save money check out ebay for the lites and supplements. the people at the cente should work within your buget, even if you buy 1 month at a time. You have a son that you need to be here for, i too have 4 children and i know that money tight, but you need to try. just go talk to them and explain everything to them, the only thing you have to lose is your weight and the only thing you have to gain is your health. okay this is my opionion, and i really hope i dont sound gruchie or anything, and if i do i appoligize angel deetsmom 12-14-2005, 01:56 PM Do you mean "grouchie"? No, definitely not...you misread. Star 12-14-2005, 01:56 PM This isn't directed at anyone........ But, as my first husband use to say: "Opinions are like ***_oles - everyone's got one" deetsmom 12-14-2005, 01:57 PM yea, and they all stink! ROTFLMAO!!!! Star 12-14-2005, 02:01 PM  Except ours (ofcourse) marbear 12-14-2005, 03:43 PM Well, I am really lucky that I got the info from a family member, or else I would have never had faith in LAWL to pay upfront...I would have thought there must be a catch to help you lose weight rather than it is just a balanced diet that works for me because it keeps me from carbing up. If I cannot lose my baby weight after my next pregnancy, I am absolutely gonna do the program (sans bars) even if I have to pay for it. It is worth it TO ME (because it is a diet that works on my body, and it is the first one I feel that way about). At some point, you gotta shell out the dough for your health, center OR NOT. When I did lunas, even off ebay, I spent almost $100 to get my bars. They were worth it because they kept my sweet tooth from sabotaging me. Now I am off lunas, but I still buy 90percent of my groceries in the form of meat, low fat diary, or veggies. I rarely go down the convenience food aisles. My grocery bill is OUTRAGEOUS, esp now that it is winter and stuff is out of season. This plan will work if you are committed to it, and if people feel a greater sense of commitment at the center and can afford it, then by all means they should pay to go to the center. If you can't afford it, then go on ebay or just do another diet (calorie counting is free except for the nutrition book). Repo girl 12-14-2005, 03:51 PM My grocery bill is astonishing, too. Sometimes I think DH has to bite his tongue on that one. Really, though, I am looking so great these days, I don't think that he can complain!! MetalChic 12-14-2005, 05:50 PM My grocery bill is insane too. I have just learned to live with it...so I can live without the extra weight. Repo girl 12-14-2005, 05:55 PM Well said! Mom_of_3_Monsters 12-14-2005, 08:05 PM OK ... This strictly MY opinion .... I paid for the program 6 years ago (OMG has it been that long !) and went to the center 3x's a week and I did really well, was 10 lbs from goal and found out I was pregnant with baby #3 (who is now 4 1/2) I did pretty well through my pregnancy and didn't gain back all the weight I had lost, but did keep on 25 lbs. I never went back to the center, I was out of weeks and we didn't have the money to reinvest at the time, nor do I now. I have been doing the LA plan on and off since and can not seem to find the motivation to keep at it. I do really well for a while and then I guess I get "tired" of all the dieting and watching. I know for me the structure, the weigh in's and the financial investment was a big part in keeping me motivated and on plan ... I didn't want to fail. Now doing it on my own, I have no one to be accountable to except myself an "I" let myself get away with way too much !;) Just my 2 cents .... Good Luck with whatever decision/diet/plan/way of life thatt you choose ! fatgirl_79 12-14-2005, 09:27 PM Okay just to let everyone know, I use the title fatgirl cause I like it. I don't have self hate issues, it just fits me right now. nuff said about that. I went to my doctor today and my blood pressue was very high. She recommended I try weight watchers. She herself has lost 80lbs and kept it off for over 3 years. So that is my plan for now. Guess I am heading over to the WW threads. Thanks for all the opinions!!! And I mean that. Mom_of_3_Monsters 12-14-2005, 09:31 PM Good Luck !! Weight Watchers is a good plan as well ... I know lots of folks have had success on it ... marbear 12-15-2005, 10:01 AM It is a good program, so good luck with it! Star 12-15-2005, 10:41 AM fatgirl ;) Best of luck with WW. Actually most plans will work - IF you work them..... kayd 12-19-2005, 01:29 PM Hello, I'm new here, I was so happy to see this thread. I agree LAWL is a little pricey, but I figure it's worth it. Honestly, at $3/week, you can refuse to do bars (and just get more regular food). Are you allowed to refuse to do the bars? When I signed up they made it seem like you had to do them or you couldn't go on the plan. I'm paid up till March with my bars, I was hoping I wouldn't have to buy them again. Repo girl 12-19-2005, 01:43 PM No, you do not have to do them. I don't, and I am losing just as well as everyone else. shennie_97 12-19-2005, 01:47 PM kayd, you don't have to use the bars, but of course they make you think that at a lot of centers. here on the board, Katie, Andi, Beanie, Karen and Mary (who is now pregant, so she is not officially on program anynmore) have lost wonderfully without bars. I will run out too, so I might just by them off of e-bay for a while, but I do not plan on having the bars in maintenance at all, so i shouldn't have many to buy since i bought up to half of maintennce (but added 8 weeks of WL last week) Leah AU mom 01-24-2006, 02:37 PM No, you do not have to do them. I don't, and I am losing just as well as everyone else. Repo, do you substitute more food choices in place of the bars? Repo girl 01-24-2006, 03:25 PM Yes, they started me on red without bars, now I am on blue without bars. Had I done the bars I think that I would have been on purple to start. ptspeced 01-25-2006, 09:51 AM My center let me pay mine out and it was 800.00. My center is really nice and they're real good. It is in edmond oklahoma. They are willing to work with u and help u out. Cause I was doing something wrong with the starches and they caught it. they are getting some new faces and I really only want certain counselors. thanks, ptspeced vBulletin® v3.6.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
