Default Anyone using Birth Contol Pill to treat PCOS with IR

When my Hubby & I were trying to start a family I was sent to an Endocrinologist and fertility specialist. They diagnosed me with a major case of PCOS with IR. They said I was a classic case & they don't see many patients who have every symptom as severe as I do. We tried clomid alone... nothing. Then a combination of glucophage and clomid... nothing. Then we tried metformin and clomid... nothing again. We tried IVF as a last resort... Finally we were pregnant. After I gave birth to my twin girls they put me back on birth control and told me that I was going to have to take them until I hit menopause. has anyone else been told to stay on the pill??

bcp's help with the hormonal regulation. most pcos'ers take them for life.

Thanks! That's what I was told but I don't know if I'm should think of going on a special diet or something. The doctors just put me back on the pill.

well, low carb diets have been most successful for people w/pcos because of the insulin resistance. i think atkins, south beach, the insulin resistance diet, the glycemic indez diet are the more popular ones. a lot of people also do wieght watchers; i think they try to keep carbs in check as well. no matter what you choose, diet and exercise are essentials in controlling i.r.

good luck to you.

I take both bcps and glocophage. The pills help with regulating my hormones and the glocophage helps with the IR and weight loss.

Thanks! That gives me some direction to head in. I have been watching what I eat... but I'm having trouble getting motivated. I have always been a big girl & now after having my babies, I find I have a ton of extra saggy skin... I don't want to use the excuse "well I just had twins" any more. I think this will be a long road... but I'm going to have to travel it!!! Thanks to everyone! Any encouragement will help!

well, you're not going it alone. (i don't even have the "i just had twins excuse either. :P) you just have to make a decision, and go with it. one day at a time. there will be down days and days where you screw up royally. but you just have to accept that you're human and go from there. that's my basic philosophy. (i spend waaay too much time beating myself up about perceived "failures" so i am trying to change that thought-pattern.)
