I got my computer out of the shop. I don't have time to post right now. I have lots to do to be ready for Thanksgiving.

Wayne got 18 stitches put in his thumb last night. Ripped it open at work on the back doors of his truck. :(

I hope everyone has a great,safe,fun & Happy Thanksgiving!!

Thanks for asking about me while I was out without a computer.

Love to all...

11-23-2005, 04:50 PM
Sherry we miss you even when you are gone for a day. Ouch, 18 stitches in a wee little thumb. That's bad. Make sure he keeps it clean so he doesn't get an infection. I am glad that you are back. So I guess you must be cooking the big meal for Thanksgiveing. Who is coming to dinner?

Gayle poor little Sophie, I hope she has recovered. They do bounce back pretty quick.

Thank you all for the concern. I love you girls too. I will choice to do exercises that I think are easier on my heart. It is really hard to tell how fast my heart is beating unless I take it every five minutes. I am addicted to exercise as I am sure you all know by now. I think Shelley you are too, that is why I knew that you would understand. The waiting is hard because I don't even have a date for when I will be having the holter monitor on. After that they have to analyze it and then I will see my family doctor. If he finds something he doesn't like he will send it to my caridologist, then I have to wait to see him. With the holiday season approaching who know how long this will take.

Other health issues this week. I recieved my MRI results. After all that I went through last year with the surgeries I still have a herniated disk and scar tissue on the nerves. I don't know how I could have herniated another disk. I am scheduled for a epidural steroid injection on Dec 13th. Lets hope that this will work. The specialist said that he will do up to 3 times. They will not be able to do the dye xray because of my allergies but will do another type of xray that will be a little less accurate. Can you tell I am a little nervous about this? I could have gone next tuesday but Larry will be in Boston and I didn't want to go without him. The specialist said that the new leg brace that I got is not what he had perscribed. I will have to go get a new one made. Boy, oh boy.

I hope that you all have a wonderful thanksgiving and I will be popping in on you Shelley and visit with you Sherry while you tidy up. Gayle your turkey sounds yummy too, I am coming for seconds. Have a good one and post and let me know how you all are doing. We have a family christmas celebration on sunday and then my sister will be taking me back to her place til wednesday. I don't really want to be alone while Larry is gone. I will post before I leave.

11-23-2005, 05:22 PM
Girls, please say extra prayers for Ramona's son Dan!!!! I received this late last night, I didn't check my email until this afternoon. I think the surgery was this morning by the time on the email.

I have just run home to shower and pack a bag. Daniel was in a roll over acident this morning and his back is broken in four places, broken ribs and collapsed lung. As of right now, he has no feeling from the waist down. Surgery is tommorrow morning. Please ask everyone you know to send up prayers that he will walk again.

11-23-2005, 05:27 PM
OMG Gayle what terrible news. Thanks for letting us know.
Prayers are sent to Dan and of course the family too. I will also light a prayer candle for him. Ramona I am sending a big hug your way. I know that this is going to be tough. I love you.

11-23-2005, 11:56 PM
Oh my awful! I will be saying prayers for healing for Dan...may the Lord hear all of our prayers for this young man! Please let us know if you get any more information on his condition.

Welcome back Sherry! I sure hope your hubby's thumb is feeling better! That must have been a nasty gash to need that many stitches!

Dee, maybe you could find a new exercise addiction that doesn't get your heart rate up so high...weights maybe? Please don't over do it though whatever you do!

11-24-2005, 04:36 PM
Thanks for the advise Suzy. I am a little hesitant to do weights, I have had two back surgeries in the last year. I did do a few weights this week at the YMCA. I did weights until my surgeries but probably could do them again. I am going to easy into it though.

Gayle any more news?

Last night at dinner I got a call from the hospital. They had a holter monitor available for me today. So I am hooked up and waiting for something to excite me so my heart can record the racing. Larry has a few ideas but it all has to be documented. lol I will go to the gym tonight and see if I can get it up there.

Lots to do have a great day. Ramona I am thinking of you, your family and Dan. xox

11-25-2005, 01:30 AM
I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving. I took some time this morning to count my many blessings. I get very discouraged at times with what life deals, but thru all the hardships, I really should be thankful for many things.

I haven't heard anything from Ramona, but I'm assuming she must be in the town were Dan is at? Hopefully she will check in here when she can. My heart aches that there is nothing I can do other then to pray alot.

Dee, maybe you should try to come to the States for some medical advice??? it seems like through all the surgeries and therapy, you still seem to have the same problem. Hopefully, the doctors can agree and you can FINALLY get the proper treatment you need and deserve.

Suzy, thanks for checking in here often. It's been slow around here for the past few weeks...some of our regulars have decided to go MIA.

Shelley, our turkey turned out nice with just a hint of orange citrus flavor...THANK YOU FOR THE SUGGESTION! How did your turkeys turn out?

Sher, I hope Wayne's thumb is better! OUCH! How did Wayne get to the hospital??? I hope you had a nice Thanksgiving!

Well, better close, I am exhausted from the day! It was very pleasant without any family disputes etc. Even the mentally disturbed SIL behaved!!! LOL!!!!

11-25-2005, 05:25 AM
Gayle-Our turkeys turned out delicious as usual. I hate way too much--turkey, stuffing (mom made it fat free), broccoli, sweet potatoes (fat free, but with marshmallows), chocolate yumyum cake(fat free.) Although everything was fat free, it certainly wasn't calorie free. Tonight will be the big one with my brother and his family from New York.

Sherry-Ouch on Wayne's thumb.

I am so worried about Dan. I hope he is okay. After going to Irag and everything he has been through, I can't believe that he had this accident. It is so scarey out there on the roads for our children. Patty gets her license on Jan 13, and I am so scared.

11-25-2005, 11:19 AM
Dee, I'm glad they found a monitor for you so quickly! Hopefully now the doctors will be able to get to the bottom of the problem and fix it!

Gayle, it's been a difficult year here as well. You're right though...even when things are bad there is still SO MUCH to be thankful for! Besides...if we didn't have the bad times the good times wouldn't mean near as much as they do! ;)

Sherry, sounds like you had a wonderful dinner! I cut back on the fat in our meal too and sent the leftover peanut butter cream pie home with our oldest son...he can afford the extra calories! ;)

Ramona, my prayers are continuing for Dan and the rest of your family as well!

11-25-2005, 06:40 PM
Gayle I would go to the States for treatment but it would be out of our pocket. I am sure that it would be thousands of dollars. Hopefully we will find out if my heart is not behaving again. Darn I thought that it would know better by now.

Sherry will Wayne be able to work with his injured thumb? How did your Thanksgiving dinner turn out?

Suzy I am lucky that I got the monitor so quickly. I was expecting a month wait. Maybe it is what the doctor wrote on the order that sped it up.
How very true about what you said about not appreciated the good times unless you have been through some rough times.

Shelley I am sorry I didn't make it over for dinner, do you think you can send me some of that fat free dinner? It sounded really yummy.

Well I got the heart monitor off this morning. I will hear back in two weeks if there is anything wrong. My sister picked me up from the hospital and we went to my home town for a funeral for a father of a class mate. I hadn't seen some of the people in over 15 years. I felt that I looked great. Maybe even better than when I was in school. One of my friends said that I still looked as beautiful as when we dated. Another friend said that she recognized me by my big smile. Another guy and his wife said that I haven't changed abit. I felt good about myself.
After a long lunch and visit we stopped off at my mom and das's for a visit. My dad still looks good. He has had four weeks of radiation. I know that it is going to get worse but everyday in the beginning that he does well is one less day that he has to suffer.
So it has been a long day. I left the house before 9:00 to catch my bus and just got home at 4:00.

I hope that you all have a good weekend. Remember if you don't here from me for the next few days that I will be leaving sunday night after Larry's big family christmas party. I am off to Gail's til wednesday night.

Take care and prayers going out to you Ramona and family.

11-25-2005, 07:39 PM
Dee, I am so happy you are feeling so good about yourself. You are a beautiful person on the inside and it radiated to the outside of your body. Since you had the surgery, I am sure you are positively glowing.
Radiation is so much easier now on a patient then say 10 years ago. Some patients only end up with a mild "flu like" reaction. This is what i'm hoping for your father. I hope he can get through the treatments without too much discomfort.

Shelley, YUMMMMM-YUMMMM!!!!! Can we come to your house next year????? I come from a bunch of hicks who believe fat, butter and frying are right up there. They think I am crazy because I prefer my food plain and not fried. So, needless to say, yesterday at the inlaws was not OP for me.

Suzy, how do you make your peanut butter pie? I know of two ways, one way is to mix the PB with the pudding and the other is just placing a layer of PB on the crust before adding the pudding. Is your similar? I feel guilty admitting this after Shelley posted her FAB FF menu, but here it goes! One of the traditions at the inlaws house is to have the meal, then a few hours later my MIL pulls out several pies to choose from. Almost everyone makes a mini meal out of pie!!! I'm talking like some of them eat 4-5 pieces!!! I'm not that bad, but yes I must admit, I had two pieces. :-)

Sher, where are you???

Prayers continue to be sent to dear Ramona & family. {{{HUGS}}}

11-25-2005, 09:33 PM
Happy Thanksgiving Everyone.

Ramona you and your son are in my prayers and thoughts thru this trying time for your family . Prayers perform miracles and they will guard over you.
Keep in touch my friend.

Sherry glad you are back with a computer and sorry to hear about Waynes fingers..both need to take care and rest ..

Shelly will be in Tampa from the 12/23-12-27

Can't wait for that warm weather.

Well made a whold bunch of jewelery and better get it sorted and priced.

Have a good wk/end all.

11-25-2005, 09:35 PM
Gayle, I probably shouldn't post this on a dieting board, because it really isn't diet food by any means ;) , but it can be slimmed down...which is what I did for Thanksgiving.

Peanut Butter Cream Pie

1 - 9 ounce chocolate or graham cracker crust (can be reduced fat)

1 - 8 ounce cream cheese, softened (can be lite or fat free)
1 - 14 ounce can sweetened condensed milk (not much you can do about that  )
3/4 cup peanut butter (can use the reduced fat)
3 tablespoons lemon juice (from concentrate okay)
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup cool whip (can use lite)

Beat cream cheese, sweetened condensed milk, peanut butter, lemon juice and vanilla together until smooth and then gently fold in cool whip. Pour into crust and refrigerate. Drizzle 1 or 2 teaspoons chocolate syrup (Hershey's makes a lite syrup - only 50 calories for 2 tablespoons) on top of each slice before serving.

Even the slimmed down version is VERY rich...a tiny sliver of this pie goes a long way!

Dee, it sounds like you had quite a day! You must really be riding high after hearing such nice things from your old friends! That's should be proud of yourself!
I'm glad to hear that your dad is doing so well with his radiation. Maybe it won't get much worse for least that's what I'll be hoping for!

Our son, daughter-in-law and the girls ate dinner with us tonight, so that took care of the leftovers. I know I ate more than I should have, but it's only a couple of meals, but a splurge every now and then isn't going to hurt anything...tomorrow I'll be right back on track again!

11-26-2005, 08:24 AM
Suzy-Think they make ff condensed milk. You could probably use that.

Dee-I hope your results come back good. I'll be sending healing vibes your way.

Sherry-How is Wayne's thumb now?? How was your Thanksgiving?

Vicki-I wish I could come visit you! Didn't you say that it's somewhere near USF?

Gayle-Dear, don't feel guilty! I have been eating everything in sight, even if it's fat free or low fat. Last night was the other dinner at my mom's. I ate way too much corn bread!

I forgot how much I hate my SIL from NY. She made a comment that just made me so mad. My dad was saying how her son, who lives here in town, never comes to see him anymore. She brought up how the store we had 10 years ago always came first and they missed many important things because of it. I told her not to start this. She said why not? Anyway, I just can't stand her. It's always something. She has no right bringing up old stuff to my 82 year old dad. Come on. He won't be here that much longer. Can you tell I'm still seething over this?

Gotta go out and run this stress off!!

11-26-2005, 11:49 AM
Shelley, I had a "steam" period too at our family get together. We have a nephew who has decided to be a minister and is going to pastoral school. His church has different beliefs & views then most. He sat right next to me and made comments I (nor anyone else) appreciated. I should of stood up for my faith and now I'm feeling guilty but I didn't want to start anything because of Steves parents and his fathers health.
Some people just "feed" off of making snotty comments. You did the right thing by putting her in her place instantly and telling her not to discuss it. BRAVO GIRLFRIEND!

Speaking of family moments, I haven't shared but I will:
We had an anniversary celebration to go to a few weeks ago. Mom went with us and instantly, as we walked through the door, a lady was up in her face. I glanced around and placed who the lady was my sister who has not visited nor seen my mother for a good 15 years. She looked VERY different, her face was swollen and I'm not sure if I would of even known who she was, other then I spotted her husband. Anyways, she stands right in front of mom and says: Are you going to hug me?
Mom responds: Who are you? Are you a relative?
She responds: You don't know who I am and your not going to hug me?
About this time, I am right behind mom so I say: Mom, it is Betty. Mom goes ahead and gives her a quick hug, I quickly separated them and said, mom lets find you a place to sit. Steve takes over getting mom seated somewhere and as I'm walking off, I hear my name. I turn around to have my sister ask: So what, are we talking or not?
I responded: NO, not now, NO and I turned my back on her and walked off.
She left and later I found out she was crying to an Aunt in the parking lot. Because mom didn't know who she was. Well I'm sorry, but after this many years and the drastic change in her appearance, not even a well person could place her, how was my mom to know.
I know I should feel bad, but I don't. She and another brother and sister have been nowhere around before, during or after moms heart attack. In some ways it was a release to be able to see one of them, not say much, but yet get the point across very clearly I am not happy with their behavior.
I told mom to not feel guilty in anyway...what goes around comes around and they are now just starting to face the conquences of their behavior over the years.
Enough rambling for the day!! LOL!!!

Ramona, praying daily for your family. I hope Dan is starting to recover from the accident & surgery. I LOVE YOU!

11-26-2005, 01:42 PM
Gayle-I'm right there with you, girl! I am proud of you for what you did. Your mother certainly deserves more that what your sister and brother gives, which is nothing!! You go girl!!

11-26-2005, 02:03 PM
Gayle....YOU GO GIRL!!!!! that is the same i would do with my sister if she came around....That is my mom's favorite saying " What goes around comes around".

Well off to family-inlaws dinner....Wow aren't i lucky today!!!

11-26-2005, 09:53 PM
Ok girls, I have the choice between polishing off the last of the pumpkin pie and ice cream or venting to you all...I'm choosing venting to you all first and if that doesn't help then I'll try the pie. ;)

I was at WalMart this afternoon and saw a couple we know through some other friends. They asked if I had heard anything from my son lately (they both know he is in Iraq) so I proceeded to tell them that he is driving a humvee escorting convoys of supplies and or troops to different locations (he's an MP). It was at that point that the man says "You know they don't call them humvees anymore...they call them targets." I just looked at the guy...I was absolutely speechless! I couldn't think of a thing to say...I just made a comment that I had to get back to my shopping and walked away. Of course now that I'm home and have thought about it some I should have turned to the guy's wife and said "I'm so sorry that you are married to such an insensitive (insert proper profanity here)!" and then walked away. I'm sure the look on my face said it all, but I wish now that I had said something to the stupid jerk. I just can't believe that someone could be that insensitive!

11-27-2005, 07:17 AM
Suzy-How unthoughtful and insensitive of that jerk that calls himself a man! I'm sorry that you had to even experience such a loser's comments.

11-27-2005, 11:12 AM
Suzy, some people never even think before they speak. His comment was crude and uncalled for...maybe to him he was just trying to add humor to the conversation. I hope when he made it home, he actually replayed the conversation in his mind and realized he should of thought before speaking such a comment to a mother with a son in war. I hope you know here, we are saying prayers for your son and wish him a safe return.

Speaking of nasty comments: one time when my dad had cancer he ran into a former coworker in town. Dad told him about his cancer and the guy responded: "so, your going to die soon, huh?" Dad was speechless at the time. Dad lived probably 4-5 more years but I know that one single comment from a non-thinking person continued to bother him through the years.

Vickster: Did ya have fun with MIL??? LOL!!!!!!

Shelley: When will Patty start driving? I know you mentioned it but I forgot. We must have nerves of steel to get through that rough period in life!! Hopefully she won't rear-end the judges wife like Liz did!! LOL!!!

Where oh where is everyone??????

Sending prayers again to Ramona & family!!!

11-27-2005, 11:16 AM
I just went to check my email before getting off the computer. Here is an update from Ramona!!!!

Hi Gayle. Ben and I came home tonight for a little while. It is one hundred miles to the hospital, so we are just camping out there.
Dan had surgery on Wednesday. It lasted seven hours and was very difficult. He has two rods from the base of his neck to the base of his spine. He has two broken ribs and a puntured lung. As of right now, he is paralyzed from the waist down. They have given us virtually no hope, but we are not giving up. The doctors have done their part, now we have to leave it up to God. He took the news really well, but of course he is understandably angry. The good news is that he is chomping at the bit to begin rehab, so we look at that as a good sign. He will be flat and in ICU for another ten days or so. Then he will move to a regular room for a period and then begin therapy. He will probably be in the hospital for at least three months.
Of course someone has to bring in a paycheck, so I will return to work on Monday and drive to Little Rock in the evenings every other day or so.
Please don't stop the prayers and please ask everyone else to continue. We need them desperately.
Thank you for everything.

11-27-2005, 11:49 AM
Thanks so much for the update on Dan, Gayle! He has been on my mind almost constantly since I read about his accident. My prayers will continue for Dan and I'll also be praying for Ramona and the rest of the family. They will all need prayers to get through the difficult days ahead. God bless them all.

Thanks for the support everyone! I decided that the idiot's stupid comment wasn't worth 500 calories so I didn't eat the pie and ice cream. It still blows my mind that people can be so insensitive, but I guess it takes all kinds to make the world go round.

11-28-2005, 06:45 AM
Gayle-Thank you so much for the update. I have been praying for Dan and waiting. Please, if Ramona gets in touch with you again, let her know how much we care about him.

BTW, Patty's bday is Jan 13. That's dday, if she is able to get an appointment to get the license. With hearing about these accidents, it is so scary to send your kids off on their own. No matter what age.

11-28-2005, 10:21 AM
Shelley, I sent Ramona a note back telling her that she & her family are mentioned on almost every post here on the board. I also told her we love her dearly and all of us here are continuing to pray for Dans recovery. I thought it may make her feel a little better knowing we continue to not give up hope for Dan.
D-DAY???? I think it should be B-DAY!!! LOL!!!! I will be thinking of you!!!! LOL! Has Patty ever driven much? Here in Kansas they are required to get a restricted and get in so many hours of day/night driving time before they can get the actual license to drive without supervision.

Suzy, way to go!!! Great job not giving in to temptation because of a comment. I hope he went home, realized what he said and now has a major case of the guilts. Hopefully he learned his lesson and will not make the same mistake again.

Dee, are you ok?

Where is everyone?? No Doni, no Carol....
no Cheryl...Janice?.....Vickster....Deb??? The list can go on & on.......

Thinking of Dan today, praying for the strength he needs to overcome the difficulties placed in his life right now.

11-28-2005, 12:54 PM
Dang girls i am here...

Gayle had so much fun with the family-in-laws i was sick all day yesterday and still don't feel well. I am sure one of them lovely people spiked my meal some how so i would be sick...(kidding but wouldn't put it past them).

Suzy....Sorry you ran into an insensitive person,Dumb people say the Damnedest things when they can't think of anything else plus he is probably fustrated for them over there and just didn't know how to say it in the right way. Glad you held yourself and didn't also eat that pie b/c i sure would have and been in the same frame of mind at the time.

Hope everyone has a good week.

11-28-2005, 02:49 PM
Prayers to Ramona and her family. I am saying extra prayers for Dan.
What a terrible thing to happen, to such a brave young man.
Suzy - Congratulations on not giving in to the pie. When I am stressed my anything I eat. Stay strong.
I should have taken a picture of the snow storm we had last week. It was wild.

11-28-2005, 06:40 PM
Gayle-Patty is using her restricted license. She has to have it for 1 year before she gets the regular one. She drives with either me or Mike in the car quite a bit. I just hate for her to go alone!

Thinking of Dan and praying for his recovery....

11-29-2005, 06:45 AM
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, RAMONA!!! :gift: :woo: :hb: :bravo:

11-29-2005, 01:11 PM
Hi everyone.

I can't get excited because a lot has happened here at the board since I've been gone. Actually, I've been lurking, so I know about Ramona's situation with Dan. I hope everything is OK there. To pile on top of that, we had severe weather in Arkansas over the week-end and guess where most of it hit--you guessed it--central state (the city where Ramona lives was without power for quite a while). I really feel for her..... We were lucky to only get high winds and rain. There were 8 known tornadoes in the state.

Maybe I should move to Kansas with Gayle, huh...

While I was lurking on another thread I found something interesting that I think I'm going to cut and paste here. Let me go get it.....

11-29-2005, 01:32 PM
Cheryl, come by and get me then we'll head to Florida with Shelley! The weather stinks here right now! High winds & snow yesterday made for a few icy patches today getting allison to school. The sun is out now, so I'm hoping the ice is off the roads since it's time for me to head to work. Did I ever tell you guys I hate winter???? LOL!

11-29-2005, 01:37 PM
Ok, took me awhile to find it, but here it is (and some of you WW chickies may have already read this):

Hi, I have been a WW member for 36 years on and off and am currently back at it. I have three things that are working for me right now and wanted to share them.

A major new insight(to me)was given by my WW leader after the first meeting. She said that when your body has had enough to eat you will sigh deeply. I though yeah right that's a good one but when I ate my next meal I paid attention and sure enough about halfway through I gave a deep sigh and realized I was no longer hungry. So I stopped eating which was soooo hard as I have always hated leaving any points behind on my plate. For the next few days I watched my kids as they ate and to my surprise saw that they would sigh deeply as well when eating but the difference between myself and them was that they pushed their plates away and said they were done.

I read this on Friday and tried it out over the week-end to see if it was true and IT IS!!!!

11-29-2005, 01:38 PM

I could use a trip to Florida right now. But don't forget that they have hurricanes!

We really need to go to go to Floridia, pick up Shelley and head to NASHVILLE to visit Sherry and Debbie!!

11-29-2005, 02:38 PM
Hurricane season is officially over as of today, so I say we load up the car and head to Shelley's for the winter! Our weather is just awful today...high winds and flooding rains. It is in the 60's, but that's not supposed to last...20's and snow by the end of the week.

Happy Birthday Ramona! :hb:
I'm hoping all of your birthday wishes come true!

That's interesting about sighing when you have had enough to eat! I'll have to pay attention to that tonight at dinner!

11-29-2005, 05:40 PM
We had rain, ice & snow yesterday Suzy with wind gust 50-60 miles per hour. I JUST LOVE WINTER.... today it is in the high 40's and to get nicer by the end of the week. I'm already praying for an early spring. I bet our bad weather blew on through and is heading your way! LOL!

You think Shelley will let us all sleep on her floor????

Cheryl, I'm going to pay attention tonight at dinner and watch myself & the rest of the family...

11-29-2005, 06:15 PM
Come on down!! Each and everyone of my fabulous Floozie friends!!

Cheryl-Very interesting theory. I'll have to try and notice what everyone does. We don't eat together much anymore, though. Both girls are usually working, and Mike and I just pick, rather than eat meals. I probably sigh and keep eating whether it's a meal or not. I already know I overload my stomach to the max!

11-30-2005, 01:06 PM
Today is my 1-year wedding anniversary. Stewart got me a pair of Australian Crystal earrings. They're clear cubes that change color depending on what I'm wearing/how the light catches them, etc. They're very pretty and were totally unexpected.

He did very good.

11-30-2005, 02:57 PM
Happy anniversary Cheryl! Sounds like your hubby did a good job with the gift...can't go wrong with jewelry in my book! I wish you many more happy years together!

I checked the scales this morning and I'm down another pound and I also got my hair cut and highlighted today, so I'm feeling a bit like a new woman! I hope everyone else is having a good day too!

11-30-2005, 09:43 PM
Just got home from my sister Gail's. I was there for three nights while Larry was in Boston. I am off to the gym so this will be short.

I read about the sigh thing awhile back and it works. It is very true. It is amazing how we stop paying attention to our bodies needs.

Ramona Happy Birthday. You are in our prayers. I agree with what Gayle said. You are fortunate that you can hold Ben in your arms. He will recover.

Sorry I have to go so soon but off I go.
