 It's all my fault. I went and changed my ticker yesterday morning to reflect a 2 lb loss and didn't I go and find the 2 lbs again? Back up to 160...

DD is home sick again...I tell ya...she hasn't been 100% since she got a flu shot a month ago. Either she's quesy, or she has a headache and is dizzy or she's coughing. None of these at the same time and not sick enough to say she's 'sick'...but more like enough to say, "I don't feel good" and make me think she is just uninspired in life and just wants to lay in bed and be lazy. So, this morning she has her period after jsut having it 13 days ago and woke up with a soaking wet sweaty sweatshirt that she slept in, so I'm taking her to the doctor. Anyone else have these sorts of things after a kid gets a flu shot? I'm convinced it has something to do with it. Before the flu shot, she was all gung ho about school and friends and all that and now she's just like she's lost some air in her balloon. Of course, the doctor won't admit that the flu shot could make someone sick, but she's never had a flu shot before...I've never had a flu shot before and I'm really glad I didn't give one to Kyle. I'd rather her have the flu for a week and get it overwith than this annoying ickyness she's been feeling that's been keeping her down.

Okay...off to get dressed...talk to you guys later on. First, I have to change my ticker to 160. :(

Well, the bad car-ma has raised its ugly head again. My car is acting weird...its the alternator which was replaced the end of April...and I am supposed to be cooking for 50 at the church tonight. I am planning on using Laura's car to run errands, and hopefully will be able to drive my car some...Laura is going to check it and take the alternator out and over to where she bought it. I want to cry. Today just is NOT a day I needed more stress on. I slept poorly again, as did Tom. He woke up choking at about 1, and could hardly sleep after that. We SO need a vacation. We just can't afford one. :(

TECH: I have heard a lot of negatives about flu shots. I used to get one because I have Lupus, but the past two years I have not due to what I read. They say its a crap shoot as to whether they guess the right strain of flu to use for the shots, and it can cause other problems. I would totally agree that the flu shot may be what is causing your daughter to feel sick. I hope the doctor is willing to listen!

Oh, and its MMM and I forgot to weigh before breakfast...which was a handful of beef jerky strips and a small bowl of life cereal...a totally uninspired breakfast, and not exactly legal. I am just too tired, too stressed to think clearly. Hopefully, it will improve, or dinner tonight is going to be an interesting affair!

I'm so excited.... I can't believe it!!!! I lost 8 lbs. this week. I know allot of it is water weight but its inspired me so much. I messed around with my eating this week end and had some wine so I was worried. I'll have a hard time maintaining this next week. So I'll really have to be careful. Not sure what I'm eating today cause I just got up and I'm just now having my coffee. But will post it later.

Monet- I'm so sorry you're off to a bad start today. I sure hope the rest of your day goes better.

Techwife- That sure sounds like the flu shot must be the main reason. Hope your Doctor is helpful.

Good morning. Well..I weighed in yesterday....5.5 pounds. I hope its 6 next week. The weather is not cooperating with my exercise schedule so, I'll have to find another plan!

Monet - I HATE car trouble..nothing can ruin your day more. Hope it all works out!

Toni - 8 pounds? WOW that's great!!!!

Tech - hope your dd gets to feeling better.

I have good news and bad news...The good news is, I lost three pounds this week! :cheer: The bad news is, I did not meet my challenge for two days of exercise :( I have had this coughing fit type cold and did not feel like going out to walk, too busy , bad weather and all those other excuses. :p I am going to try again this week! ;) I am sure I can get in some next week as our school system has the entire week off for Thanksgiving! :carrot: :carrot:

My kids and I have taken the flu shot for the last 4 years and have never had a problem with it. I am a school nurse, so all the little sickies come to see me! I make sure I get one every year! so far so good! :crossed: Although, Sean is home with vomiting and diarrhea today after he was home last Tuesday with the same thing. :chin: He has had the flu several times in his lifetime and is always VERY sick..high fever, vomiting, bad headache etc. He does not have that this time, so maybe it is just a bug! Hope you find out what is bothering your daughter Tech!

Toni and Brandi: Congrats on your BIG losses!!! Thats great!!

Tech- I got the flu shot all of 2 times in my whole life. BOTH times I was sicker than I have ever been afterward (a week following the shots) With the first one, I ended up in the hospital dehydrated becuse I was throwing up so much, the second time (I was silly enough to try again) I couldn't lift my head off the pillow b/c I was so dizzy and sick. Of course, the docs say it has nothing to do with the flu shot. Go figure. It very well could be the shot- it may take time to get out of her system. Did anything happen to her at school that would make her not want to go? I too found the pounds I thought I lost when I weighed in a couple days ago. I know my culprit this week. I got that sugar free ice cream and have been "overdoing" it with it . Soo- better luck for both of us next week!!

Monet- I'm so sorry about your day. Our car broke down this week too- with a $600 repair bill. I think cars are put on this earth to make us crazy. I hope your day goes better- and that car has a miraculous recovery!!

Well, like I said to Tech- I stayed the same this week for MMM. I know I ate way too much sf ice cream. Too much of a good thing. I was better with snacking - but I also think my portion sizes were too big this week. Week three is always my toughest week whenever I change anything with my eating. Thats when I let my guard down and think its easy and get a bit lax with the plan. Sooo- back to basics and now I know with that ice cream its just too soon- maybe I'll try it later when I have more control!!!!

HUGS- MUNCH

Hi Ladies.

This has to be quick. I am swamped today. SorryI was MIA so much last week. I was so busy Thursday and Friday.

I did not make my 4 days to the gym or my 5 days totally op. I have a good excuse which I will get into later when I have more time.

But... I am down 2 pounds this week.

Tech, sorry you found those 2 pounds this morning. I wonder about those flu shots too. I get one every year and have not had any problems, but I know of people who do. Hope your DD is better soon.

Monet, sorry you are having car trouble again. What a way to start your day. I couldn't believe the Dawgs got beat by 1 point.

Toni, Wow 8 pounds is great. You are so close to the 10 lbs challenge. Now you just have 2 to go and keep it off until Christmas. Keep going girlfriend.

Brandi, 5.5 is awesome too :carrot: You are doing great too.

Thin, Congrats on your 2 lb loss. Just have to try harder this week to meet those goals. I'm right there with you.

Munch, staying the same is better than gaining, but I know it is disaapointing. A serving a ice cream is not much, who wants to eat such a small amount. What helped me was using a small dish. It makes it look like more.

Gator, what a shocker of a game. I know you are sad. It was a week for upsets. Can you believe Vandy getting beat? I'm still in shock over that one.

Got to run. Have a great day.

Hello ladies....

Well I remembered to get on the scales this morning.....I am down 3 pounds but TOM is here also. Was hoping for the full 5 pounds. Maybe in a few days after TOM is gone. I am so inconsistant anymore that I never know when I will have it. Sometimes I go for 3 months and then all of a sudden it's there for a couple and then gone again. Atleast the hot flashes have stopped for awhile. They were ready to do me in!!

Went out hunting with Ted last night. Saw the biggest buck I have seen in a long time.....Ted quietly got out of the truck, grabbed his rifle......started to load it.......guess what?? He had grabbed the wrong rifle, so we had no shells for it!! I thought he was teasing me at first........ the buck was just standing there the whole time.....didn't even see us. I sure hope he is back up there tonight. My husband has been cussing at himself ever since.........

Have to go get some things done.....and will be back for replies soon.

Oh, I forgot about the holiday recipe! My dh loves pumpkin pie, so this year I'm going to try to make a healthier version of it for him. I have a recipe for pecan crust, then I will make the filling with canned pumkin as usual, but substitute lowfat/skimmed milk evaporated milk and anything else I can do to make it better! We'll see how it turns out!

Pecan Crust

1 and 1/2 cup chopped pecans
1c sugar or sugar substitute
1 egg white

Chop the pecan pieces very finely, not to dust, but finer than chopped pecans come in the package. Add sugar and mix. In a small bowl, lightly beat the egg white, just until frothy. Add enough egg white to the pecans so that the nuts hold together in a ball when squeezed in the hand. Press mixture into the bottom of pie pan or springform pan. Toast in a 350 oven for 10 min. until pecans begin to turn light brown. Remove from oven and cool before filling. Makes enough for a 9-10 inch pan.

Flying by on my way to find a quick apple cake recipe. The admin at the church is going to come pick me up. He is a wonderful friend, and does whatever he can to keep me cooking for them! :) My kitchen is SUCH a wreck...I have been making batch after batch of beef stew in my pressure cooker. I hope I have enough! Later!

Evening everyone! I got in a little while ago. The dinner at church went well, and we had plenty of food. In fact, I had some stew left and brought it home for the family. I got a ride from the church admin, and Tom picked me up half way from the church to our house at the church offices. Unfortunately, he is sick. He is running a 100.5 fever and feels queasy and achy. Sounds like flu to me. I fed him some stew, and he said he feels better with something in his stomach. I will have to give him some TLC, and hope he feels better by the end of the week, when we were supposed to go visit his mother.

I am not feeling so great myself, and so I am going to go do some cleaning and get ready for bed.

BOB: A new car requires something I don't have...$$!!!

Hello all--We are back from Charleston where we had a great time visiting with my DS and my BIL. They drove down from Greenville SC and we stayed in a lovely hotel right off the water and in the thick of things downtown. We ate at some great restaurants and I did not really watch my eating. I just had a good time and did not think about SB. :(

Solly--You are sooo sweet and your condolences definitely made me feel better. I was really upset after the game because the Gators played so badly. By this time in the season you'd expect the team to be getting better, but they really stunk up the place. And I was one of them that was mad that our AD and univ. prezzy passed on the ole visor man and went with UM. I thought that was stupid to not take the best football genius out there and so the loss was more aggrevating than usual because of that. I think we now have a coach that still has a lot to learn about big SEC football, and I'm hoping that next year will be different.
Solly, sending :) to you on the W. That must have been some game. What a score.
The irony of the Gators' loss was that my other favorite team, Aubie, went ahead and beat the dawgs. It just made the horrible football we watched there in Columbia that much more painful.

Fortunately, we combined a lot of nice things to do with the trip to SC. We had a great time visiting my DS. We also went to a Holiday Festival of Lights where there were millions of lighted displays that we could drive by and enjoy.

Munch--In looking at your menu, you had a pear,, some salad and some spinach for fruits and veggies. Try cutting the nuts or energy bar for snack and adding some more fruit, such as an apple, and some more veggies. That will up your fiber, keep you in the proper range for fruit and veggie intake, give you lots of vitamins, and reduce your fat calories from what you get in the nuts and energy bar. Just a suggeestion.

Re. the flu shots, my DH and I get some flu drops from our holistic dr. The holistic doctors normally don't encourage people to get the flu shots for many of the same reasons that have been discussed here. The past two years we took something that was like tiny non-pareils that we put under our tongue and let dissolve. It had some "anti-flu" stuff in it. We did that one time per week for 3 weeks and then waited for 3 weeks and then took one last dose. This time we are using drops--10 drops under the tongue for 3 weeks and then one dose three weeks later. We have not gotten the flu. We also wash our hands fastidiously after going anywhere--grocery store, pumping gas, going to any office, working out, going to church, going to shop, etc. We keep wet-wipes in our car for wiping off our hands.

I make something for TG where I use sf jello. I make the jello using 1 cup of boiling water and 3/4 cup cold water. I then add a cranberry fruit mixture and let it gel and serve. Everyone loves it. Fruit mixture: In a food processor grind 1 orange cut into pieces (skin left on but seeds removed), 1 firm red apple cored and cut into pieces, and 1 bag fresh cranberries, washed and picked over. Add the equivalent of 1/2 C sugar (I use splenda) to the bowl and pulse until all the fruit is about 1/4" or the size of rice. Mix enough with the jello to really make it "thick" with fruit. Add 1 small can of crushed pineapple, drained, and some chopped pecans to taste. Yum. The emphasis is on the fresh fruit here, so make sure you add enough to just have enough jello to hold everything together firmly, but not to be a bowl of jello with just a little fruit. Any left-over orange apple, cranberry mixture can be frozen and used for future use.

Well, I'm gonna close and hit the hay. I had French class tonight and am tired. We got home at about 4 today from Charleston and I didn't have much time to unpack.

:carrot: WOW!! What a bunch of awesome losers you guys are!! :carrot: Congrats to all who had losses!! That's what challenges are for, right?

Well, I got DD off to school this morning. The doctor was stumped as to her symptoms. BUT, he didn't rule out a reaction to the flu shot, either, and in fact said it's totally possible. He wanted to send her in for blood tests, but DD whined about it enough that he put her on Zithromax and said we have to come in again in a week for a check up and if she's not better by then, she'll have a blood test. She had to have blood drawn before and the bonehead vampire that took her blood coudn't find her vein and she was pin cusioned to death by the jerk. So, she's naturally apprehensive about doing it again. Can't blame her....poor thing. Wait till she's married for 15 years and I allow her to have a baby!! ;) The doctor said that its not uncommon for people to get a bad reaction to a flu shot, but it is considered rare. He also said he's goign to bring it up at a board meeting that he goes to as a possible negative reaction to the shot. Figures...the ONE time anyone in my family (DH,DD, DS and me) and we get bad results.

Anyhow...she's on the bus as we speak and on her way to school after a good long night's sleep and some scrambled eggs down the hatch.

Monet: I have to ask: What are these massive meals you are always making for the church? Are they just church dinners? They are so lucky to have you. Beef Stew is one of my favorites. Funny, it used to be the bane of my existence when I was little...I remember sitting in front of a plate of beef stew when I was little until bed time, flat-out refusing to eat it...It was something about the celery in it that made me just gag!...and now I LOVE it. But my husband hates it now and I just might have to make a batch and see if he likes it now, too. I make mine with a can of V8 juice and add potatoes, beef and all veggies but celery.

Gator: Glad to have you back and it sounds like you had a great time!! Good for you not eating on plan and just enjoying yourself. I sometimes think of what I'll wish I had done more of when I'm on my death bed...sounds morbid, but...this gets me out of many things I don't like to do like, when I'm on my death bed, I don't think I'll be thinking I should have vaccuumed more often or washed the dishes three times a day or skipped on that Double Double burger from In n Out in California. Sometimes ya just gotta live and have that yummy food (and in my case, put away the vaccuum cleaner and play Gamecube with my kids ;) ).

Cindy: Isn't it weird when our hubbys are home with us and throw us off kilter? It's so nice to have them home, but it really tosses a wrench in the works when it comes to our schedule.

Munch: Check the ingredients in the protien bar for anything that says 'starch', which I'm pretty sure will have something to do with corn, other than that....wow! Hats off to your awesome menu! Just don't put too many yummy things on your menu...you know, you only live four hours from me and I COULD drop in and intrude on dinner at any time!! ;) Or leave some of our leftover halloween candy in your mailbox!! :lol3: Hey, I gotta do something with it!! Oh...and regarding the ice cream...I have half cup dishes that I put my ice cream in when I have it...like the kind I dish out my four servings of pudding in when I make it. If you put your ice cream in a fancy-ish dish and take tiny bites of it, it lasts longer and you feel more like you had a nice treat. BUT, that cocoa/chocolate thing you had for a snack last night sounds good, too! And, actually, I think it's healthy for you! Sounds like you've been to Atlanta raiding Monet's pantry!! :)

BOB: I wonder....in my looking into the negative side of flu shots, I found some people get something called Guillian Barre syndrome. Holy Crap if that happens to my DD!! At least my doctor seems open to the idea that the flu shot may/may not have had something to do with her symptoms and is willing to work with us. Glad to see you are back to work? I'm sure you're glad to get out of the house!!

Thin: That pecan crust sounds really good!! I bet it would make a nice crust for a SF pudding pie! I used splenda last year instead of sugar in my pumpkin pie and it was....alright, I guess. Not the same as regular.

Teensy: So...The Great Prince's karma won out over yours, eh? :lol3: I remember being literally terrorized by my best friend's father during deer season. I was going to her house and she said, "Just come in the garage and turn on the light and knock on the back door." Sure, I turned on the light and three inches from my head was the first of three skinned deer hanging from the ceiling. I screamed my lungs out!! It was like a horror movie! They opened the door and I'm like, 'what kind of people are you?" Actually, I would love to go hunting deer. The buying camos, building a tree stand, hanging out in the woods with hubby...it's just the part of shooting a deer I'd have a problem with :lol3: I 'sort of' hope you get your buck tonight (but I'll be really hoping his karma wins out over yours again :) )

Solly:  Actually, I lost one of those pounds this morning again. I'm not moving my ticker, though. I think it's starting Murphy's Law into action on me. It sounds like you have a story to tell us...I'll be looking to hear all about it!!

Thin: Don't beat yourself up over the exercise...the main part is you had a loss this week and thats the whole point, isn't it? I've had that coughing thing since sometime before Halloween! It was over at that point, and on Halloween night, I could feel the sinuses starting to act up again and I'm like, here we go again...I'm so sick of it, I wish they made edible drain-o so I could clear the pipes...if know what I mean?

Brandi: Um...let's see...do you have any exercise tapes? An exercise bike? A jumprope? Do you have a Curves nearby? I know, I have the same problem with the weather not cooperating with my best attempts to get outside and exercise. My favorite is putting on my iPod and going for a nice walk, but not in the rain or wind or general crap Mother Nature seems to be messing up my neighborhood with! And...5 lbs?!? That is FABULOUS!! Keep it up and you'll make your Christmas goal so early we'll make you set another 10lb goal and make it 20!! Wouldn't THAT be wonderful?

Toni: :carrot: Woohoo!! 8lbs! I would be over the moon and window shopping at Kohl's to decide what new clothes I would be buying when I get to my goal!!

Well, that's about it for replies, I think. I'm really starting to think I'm destined to be at 160 for the rest of my life!! But I know what I have to do, and I just hate that friggen Airdyne bike!! It kicks up all the dust in my bedroom and it's so loud and bleh! I just hate it!! I'm asking for a stepper for Christmas...that's always been my favorite elipitcal-type machine, but I got the Airdyne because it works the upper body along with lower and it's a really great workout, but I just hate it. DS is still sleeping on this dark, drippy mornign and we don't have preschool today, so I should put in my abs tape I got about six months ago. Exercise...it's what I know I have to do more of to get past this darn barrier. I lost my first 20lbs so easily last fall/winter and have just been STUCK! My 'normal' weight, before I gained my 50lbs in 1998, is 125, so it's not like I have unrealistic goals set at 135. I'm just so stuck. I guess I'll go put in a tape. I should get it in the VCR and leave it there and do it every morning this week since DH is in Vermont (Gee...what a surprise) and I could do it in the morning when DD goes off to school at 6:45. Or, I think PBS has that body electric show on early in the morning...I've got to come up with something I'll look forward to.

Okay...off to go have coffee and think aobut exercise. And maybe actually do something!! :^: I'm just very uninspired is all...maybe I should just start out with some stretches and crunches. I'll let you know what I come up with and how I do...

Good morning. I weighed in this morning and I'm about the same. WE told our families this weekend about the :bb: His family didn't say much. Typical of them. My family went crazy and obnoxious and started a 2 hour info trade on bodily functions and gross pregnancy stories they have heard. Sigh.... Anyone seen My Big Fat Greek Wedding? That's my family, loud, rude, gross yet totally loveable in a "I could kill you for saying that" way.

Travis is amazing. Yesterday and today he got the kids out of bed for me and got them somewhat situated with dry cereal to munch on. Isn't he great? I've been able to sleep till 7 both days.

Monet- Glad to hear your dinner went well. Long live the potatoes!!!

Tech- I hope the Dr finds out what is wrong with DD. I dodn't read too closely what her symptoms are, but could it be Monno? Trav had that once.. That exercise bike may be great, but it's not worth it if you hate it. You need something you enjoy!!! Hope you get the stepper for christmas!!

Gator- Sounds like a great trip, and a well deserved break for the weekend. :) That jello sounds wonderful!!! I think I'll try it.

I don't do flu shots. I don't even vaccinate my kids. There are too many side effects, in my oppinion, and diseases are just adapting to be stronger than the vaccines. I don't want to put diseases in our bodies just to prevent everything that will most likely not ever happen. Just a personal opinion.

I would write more replies, but I'm feeling sick again.

Hello to everone else!!

Talitha: I'm with you on the flu shots. Never again. I have avoided them since I've heard of them because I worked with a woman at Kodak that said her father had become parallysed (sp) after a sickness he had from a flu shot and I thought I'd never have a flu shot because it seemed like a huge risk. Then I was at the doctors with Shelley and her checkup and they said she should have one and I thought...well, it's been a good ten years of development and, well, that lady at Kodak was a bit of a whack and, well, Shelley is now in Junior High and exposed to ten times as many kids as she was in elementary, so, sure...give it a go. I'm just hoping and praying she's just got the 'ickies' and not some horrible syndrome like the ones I read about yesterday on the internet from a google search on the negatives of flu shots. Never, ever again. We'll just take the flu if we get it and deal with that instead. As for vaccinations, with the kids in public school, we have to have their shots or they can't go. I just hope and pray they don't start making flu shots mandatory. If they do, then I'll likely consider home-schooling. I'm that serious. This has really got me scared. I'm optimistic that she feels better today, but if she goes downhill, I'll be looking back on the day when she was sitting there, healthy and happy as it gets, in the doctor's office as I okay something that made her sick. It's amazing the advances they make in medicine, but they can't get the proceedures approved by the government because they might have bad side effects, but then they toss these flu vaccines around like they're nothing!

By the way...Your family sounds so funny!! And they sound like they are going to be super supportive when you get overloaded with mommyhood from time to time!! :D You're very, very blessed!! As for Travis's family...they'll get over it... ;)

Good morning ladies,

Hope everyone is doing great today.

Got in about 50 minutes at the gym last night. It wasn't easy.

I know this is going to blow me out of the water, but I'm tired of not being able to share with you all.

Last Friday I was off so I went to a podiatrist for my foot problems. They have been bothering me for years. Comes and goes. Felt so much better after I lost 105 pounds. Gain 20 and the problems are back. So after fighting shoes and walking on the side of my foot, I thought I would go gt a cortisone injection. Well, low and behold he tells me I have a fractured bone or 2 in my foot. He did xrays and now I am in a removable cast up to my knee. He thinks it is the RA that has caused the fracture. Which does not make me happy. I also have problems with the other foot, just not as bad. So who knows. So I am hobling around with tons to do with my DD moving and Christmas shopping and all. Not fun. It was a riot at the gym trying to ride the bike and do other leg machines with this huge cast.

Bob, Glad you are back to work and feeling better. I'm having the same trouble sleeeping. At 3:30 I was wide awake and that was after falling asleep after 1:30 a.m. :tired:

Munch, my only suggestions would be to make one of those snacks a fruit and maybe add in some veggies to keep you full.

Cindy, good luck on the scale today. Enjoy the time home with DH.

Monet, Hope TOM doesn'thave the flu and is feeling better. Sure hope you don't catch it too.

Gator, sounds like you had a great time in Charleston (other than the outcome of the game). Glad it was fun and the food good.

Tech, maybe you need an exercise challenge to get you moving???????? :treadmill:

Talitha, I guess I missed the final news about the baby. Congratulations. Hope you aren't sick very long. I wouldn't worry about your family. As long as you and Trav are happy that is all that matters. Things happen for a reason.

Got to run. Have a great day.

Good morning! Its a strange one. Tom woke up at 6, said he felt good, and got up and got ready for work and left! I had to jump out of bed and fix his morning smoothie and his lunch. I then went back to bed, because I was so tired and I could. :) I text messaged Laura and hopefully she will be home soon and can drive James to work. My car is still out of commission. My neighbor and I are going out to lunch, then she will drop me off at the school for class, and give me a ride home when she picks up her daughter. I still have a lot of cleaning to do in the kitchen. Its amazing how cooking for 50 makes such a mess!

TECH: The dinners are for the leadership. All the ministry team leaders, church staff, elders and deacons come. Several teams meet after dinner, and all the small group leaders come as well. I don't think they realize that the church does pay me something to do the dinners, so they are all so appreciative! I think if they knew I got some compensation, they would be different. The first meeting of the year, back in September, I did not do the dinner just to be ornery. I think the deli sandwiches, etc. did not go over very well. Especially with the staff, and the senior pastor in particular. They were taking advantage of me, and I am not going to let them.

TALITHA: :hug::hug: I am glad Travis is taking good care of you! I hope and pray you will be feeling better soon. Don't convince yourself you will feel bad...tell yourself THIS time will be different. Who knows...it might help! :) I used about half that bag of potatoes. I will probably use the rest to make mashed potatoes for Thanksgiving! I have about half the onions left too! French onion soup, perhaps??? :)

TONI: Congratulations on that great loss! I know that is inspiring!

MUNCH: I snicker at your officially closing the kitchen! Your menu looks pretty good to me. If you are going to eat nuts, I suggest almond, walnut or macadamias. Their oils are good for you. Cashews and peanuts are not as good. I know nuts are filling and because of that, they make a good snack choice. I don't snack, but when I did, I ate nuts. I think you can safely add more vegetables as well. I don't eat a lot of fruit myself, as it tends to cause sweet cravings.

CINDY: I hope the hubby will stay outta your way! :)

THIN: Thanks for sharing that recipe. I bet it would be delicious with a chocolate mousse in it!

SOLLY: Good to see you back. I missed you last week. The car is still not fixed. I hope it is soon...but thankfully my neighbor is very accomodating, or I might be walking to school!

TEENSY: A friend of ours got two eight point bucks over the weekend. I gather from the men talking about it, and their ohs and ahs, that is a pretty impressive haul for here. I am glad my husband is not a hunter. I am not very fond of venison. You use it a lot don't you?

I need to get off here and get something done this morning!

Well... :encore: ...you may or may not have seen my posting on the Exercise Board. I got smart and put on my iPod and got motivated with the Dixie Chicks, the Go-Go's, Kelly Clarkson and Santana!! :carrot: Then did crunches with James Taylor. All told, I got in a half hour on the evil bike and 5 mins of crunches on my bed and...I was actually SWEATING!!! :strong:

For Breakfast I decided to brown some deli ham and then scramble two eggs over it and the put on some shredded cheddar on top and folded it in till it melted. It was very good and filling. Now, for a large glass of water before my shower and I'll be all set till lunch...which is only an hour away... :dizzy: It takes a while on these dark, dreary days to get going....

Bye for now!!

Good morning ladies....

Got up early and got my exercise in already. I have got some more running around to do today, so thought I had better get at it. Dh went up north this morning as he is getting a new backhoe to use when he works. His friend bought a new one last week and it is being delivered today. Boy's and their toys!!

Our hunting last night was not too fruitful. Saw a few small bucks, but that is not dh's style. Since we eat them he wants something that has a bit of meat on it's bones. They are sure beautiful creatures to watch. There was probably 12 or 14 does with fawns in the middle of the field and then the 3 bucks were off to one side. We will go back up this afternoon. We usually leave here about 2 and get back at dark.

Ted and I called Vicky last night to tell her about Ted's boo boo the night before. She and I must have laughed for 10 minutes or so about it........ I am enjoying this woman more and more each day!! We just wished she lived alot closer.

Well, I am going to go have some breakfast, and get going........

Tech-- I am with you most of the time. I cut up apples during the winter and throw them out in the yard so they will have something to eat. The last thing I could do is shoot one, but I do like to eat venison, and you can't eat it while it is on the hoof!! Usually I hunt with him quite a bit, but this year Bill has been home, so I get left home. Ds is working in Seattle this week, so I am his only choice!!

Talitha--Baby's are a gift from God! I am sure that you will be feeling better soon.

Solly-- Wow, didn't anyone check it out before?? I can just imagine the pain you have been going through.

Monet-- Yes, those sound like nice bucks. On the eastern side of the US an eight point means that there is 4 points on the antlers on each side. Here on the western side we just count the side that has the most. So if one side has 4 points and the other has 3, we call it a 4 point buck as appossed to a 7 point. We eat a lot of venison. Since we both get our tags we usually bone out one and have hot beer sausages and summer sausage made. The other one we cut into steaks and freeze. There is nothing better than venison tenderloin!! (Backstrap as we call it)

MORNING ALL YOU BUSTERS!!

My BACK TO WORK EXPERIENCE WAS SHORT LIVED!! Went this morning and went down hill from there. My Boss sent me home about 10:30 a.m. On our team of 8, there are 4 our sick, and we're down one person and about to lose one to retirement on Friday!

I've become addicted to THE TRAVEL CHANNEL! We just started getting in on our regular cable system and I LOVE IT!!
Woke up at 1:45 a.m. and I was in Vietnam! Did turn off the TV and went to sleep again

I'm off to recline and try to get some rest...maybe I'll weigh today...maybe I won't!

For lunch...a smoothie made with milk, scoop of protien powder, 1/2 cup of frozen blueberries, 1/2 cup of unsweetened applesauce and a green banana. It's really good!!

Okay..gotta let Junior out into the rain!!

Eeeeekkkk I got behind. My cleaning lady came in today so I was up early and got busy fast. We're having a big storm and the temp. is supposed to drop this afternoon so we put the flannel sheets on the bed. I'm dreading cold weather and don't really think DH and I are ready for it. DH needs to get up on the roof and clean the pipes out of our wood stove yet. Breakfast was a protien bar. Didn't get to cook me some eggs so I'm really hungry now. But I'll be having lunch soon which is broccli and beef. Dinner tonight is I think beef tips with brown rice and a salad. Better go check out the weather, rain in coming down in buckets. You can see the river from the door and its up....

BOB--We had a buffet breakfast every morning in our small B & B hotel: eggs, grits, bacon, sausaug, biscuits, gravy, coffee crumb cake, waffles, and cereal. What I had: 1 pc. sausage, about 1/4 C. grits with butter, 1/4 waffle with fresh fruit and a bowl of cereal. Not very good. :( The next mornings I had cereal with fruit.
The first dinner we ate at McCrady's, about 1/2 block from where we were staying. I had seared foie gras for starter and fish for entrée and something chocolate for dessert. The second night we ate at Carolina's where I had braised veal shank over some sort of cassolet. The starter was 4 grilled shrimp on a small bed of risotto. Dessert was vanilla ice cream in a praline basket with poached pear. All was delicious, both nights. I did not eat much of the praline because the ice cream and pear was sufficient. The third night was more of a late lunch: Tomato bisque with crab meat, home made potato chips, (mmmm!) and a small shrimp appetizer. No dessert. All the restaurants were within one block of where we were staying and so we walked. We were not as close to Hyman's, but NEXT TIME, we are there!!!

Oops, gotta go. Be back in a little bit.

I just got in from lunch and school. We went to the noodle cafe for lunch and had bubble tea, and Pho with beef. I am sure Pho is not legal, as it is made with rice, and looks like its white rice at that. I did not eat all my soup, since we ordered the medium and the bowl was HUGE!

School was fine...we worked more on the turkeys and cornucopias. We left a mess, as I needed to leave when my neighbor was ready to go since I was riding with her. I will clean it up tomorrow morning since I will be over an hour early.

Not much else is going on here. I am still terribly tired, even after a nap from 10:30 until 11:30 this morning. That helped a lot, but I was still dragging when the phone woke me up at 11:30.

I will be back later...

OK, I can finish what I started. I didn't want to leave the message just sitting on my computer unposted because I was afraid I might lose it with an unexpected power outage or something. A repair man came and I had to take care of that before I could finish my earlier post.

Monet--Wow, it sounds like your school is keeping you SOOOOO busy. I hope they appreciate all the work you do. For the art teacher, it is nice to be in a non-holiday time so you can actually teach some art, rather than decorate the school with cornucopias, etc. However, whatever time it is, I know that the kids must be learning something from you.
BTW, You can probably answer this question for me. When a cake is decorated with fresh flowers, how is the cake protected from the flowers and any pesticides that may be on them? My DD wants me to actually make her wedding cake. Since it will be a small wedding, it is probably something I can manage. It probably won't be as perfect and totally professional looking as one from the bakery, but she wants an Italian cream cake and I believe it will taste better than what we could buy. I think fresh flowers, maybe some roses, would look nice as decoration, but I know they are sprayed heavily with pesticides in the fields where they are growing. Any other suggestions you can pass on will be gratefully received. They want me to do a chocolate groom's cake too, and I have a wonderful, best-ever chocolate cake recipe that will be wonderful. It has chocolate icing, and I probably will decorate with chocolate icing and maybe "crystalized" fresh violets that I have growing in my yard--pesticide free, of course. For the wedding cake, I'm thinking of doing a small 3 tiered cake--no pillars or anything. I am assuming that I put each layer on a cardboard circle and set that whole thing on the underneath layer. Possibly using some wooden skewers or something in the cake under the cardboard to stabilize it. Am I out to lunch? :)

Fillise--How are you doing with SB? I have followed your ticker, but have not seen you on the board lately, so miss seeing your progress. Congratulations on your team's big W this past weekend. You sound so busy that I wonder if you even get to go to any game.

Talitha--WOW! A new baby next year! How wonderful. You'll have your hands full but we all know you can manage it. Take care of yourself. SB is such a healthy way of eating, and I would think that you could just continue eating whole grains, fresh fruits and veggies and lean protein and do just great. I know that there are a lot of things that women today avoid during pregnancy that women never even thought of 10 years ago. Here's hoping that the SB WOE sees you through this pregnancy with great results.

BTW---Has anyone heard from KENG? MONET, has Keng talked with you lately? I know she has about a 4 month old now.

Pancho would probably agree with the discussion on flu shots. She probably has done the same as my DH and I--taken the influaforce drops or some other homeopathic item that is specifically developed to help fight against getting the flu. I don't see why anyone can't get those. My holistic doctor actually takes orders in the early fall and people pick up their order when they come in. We started our drops in mid-OCtober and will take the last dose next week. Only 4 doses total and no worries about catching the flu from the drops. Like Tech's daughter, I got the flu once from a flu shot.

Solly--Here's hoping the beotch found other things to do, off this board, if you get my drift. I had a stress fracture in one of the metatarsuls in my right foot. Painful. I also had a stress fracture in my heel, left foot. I just have bad feet, and I am sympathetic with anyone else who does. Hope you heal quickly. I was in a non-removable cast with my heel fracture--7 weeks. Ugh. Itchy. Hard to take a shower. By the time I finally went to the doctor for my metatarsul fracture, it had pretty much healed.

Congratulations to the losers this week. :) :balloons:

FROG--I'm going tomorrow to buy some shoes. What is the brand you said was so comfortable? Hope you are doing OK. Are you having any success with your exercise and WOE?

I want to look back to be able to reply to some of you others, but I'm afraid I'll lose my post. :( Anyway

GOOD TUESDAY!!

I am staying around 120-121#'s; so that's good. I don't have to worry about Turkey dinner since we will be at Disneyland. I will be making a turkey dinner for Christmas.

I've been so busy, but wanted to check in and read the posts.

CONGRATULATIONS to Toni, brandi, thin, teensy and anyone else who had a loss this week!!

AND a big CONGRATS TO TALITHA!! What a surprise, eh? You'll do great this time.

Monet: So sorry to hear about your car; that stinks!! We are so accustomed to having our vehicles there for us; it is hard to have to rely on others to get us around. Sorry Tom is feeling under the weather...tis the season. I hope you don't get it.

Thin: I've used a similar crust to what you described, but used Agave syrup in it. I use it when I make cheesecake.

Gator: Welcome home. I am glad you enjoyed yourself!

Bob: I sure hope you feel better soon! What a drag to miss so much work.

Tech: I am with everyone else on the flu vaccine. The pediatrician tried to talk me into getting one for Britt, due to her asthma, but I told her we'd take our chances. Too many people end up getting the flu (or something similar) due to the vaccine. I am trying to keep everyone's immunity up here with liquid garlic extract, vitamin C, and their multi vitamin with whole food concentrates. I am also having them eat lots of oranges and drink hot tea. They rarely even get the vaccine right. A few years ago, we vaccinated both girls because they threatened that the flu that year was going to be the worse we've seen in years. The vaccine wasn't even the right strain for the flu. I swore I'd never do it again, and I won't. I don't know if you can get the little clementine oranges (Cuties) where you are, but my kids eat them like candy, and they are so powerful as an antioxidant.

I took the kids out for the day on Friday, and we had the Rainbow Play systems company come out and install a playground for them. We pulled off the surprise and they were so excited. I haven't been able to get them off it. It has a little clubhouse with a telescope and steering wheel in it, a slide, 3 swings, monkey bars, hanging rings....and they are having a ball.

Well, I'm off to get the lasagne in the oven, and get ready for my Country Music Awards night...that's my thing. I am going to see Keith Urban with my sister on December 11th; I can't wait.

I hope you all have a great week; I'll try to check in again!!

Take care,
Nat

I found this in a magazine, and wanted to share:

"It doesn't matter how awareness arrives. What matters is that it comes. My heart began to overflow with gratefulness. I started giving thanks for everything: daisies in a jelly jar on my kitchen windowsill, the sweet fragrance of my daughter's hair, the first sip of tea in the morning, pork roast with apples and cranberries for Sunday supper, hearing the words "I love you" before I went to sleep. Each day began to offer me authentic moments of pleasure and contentment. but hadn't they before? Teh difference was that I was now noticing and appreciating each day's gifts. The power of gratefulness caught me by surprise.

All I ask you to do today is to open "the eyes of your eyes" and give your life another glance. Are your basic needs met? Do you have a home? Food on the table? Clothes to wear? Is there a regular paycheck coming in? Do you have dreams? Do you have your health? Can you walk, talk, see the beauty that surrounds you, listen to music that stirs your soul or makes you feel like you want to boogie? Do you have family and friends whom you love and who love you? Then pause for a moment and give thanks. Let your heart awaken to the transforming power of gratefulness."

PANCHO: Good to see you! Thanks for checking in. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours! Give your girls a hug from Auntie Monet.. Have a great trip to Mickey land.

GATOR: Many roses are actually grown in hot houses, but I imagine they still use sprays...not just pesticides, but fungicides as well. As with fruits and vegetables, if they are harvested three days after they are treated, the amount of chemicals is negligible. When I use fresh flowers, I make sure the stems are wrapped totally in floral tape. As a barrier between the cake and the flowers, I use tulle, made into small puffs, and arranged on the outside of the arrangement so it is between the cake and the flowers. If you wait until the icing is dry to lay flowers on the cake as well, you won't get much contamination. To make sure your stacked cake is supported properly, you will want to use at least two cardboard circles, with the grain going at a 90 degree angle for strength. Wrap it in foil, after taping together, then put your cakes on it. Dowel rods cut to the exact same size work well as supports, but places that carry cake decorating supplies will have these white hollow tubes you can cut with a serrated knife, and they are even better... put at least four in each layer. I would suggest more though...like as many as 8 in a 12 to 14 inch cake. The last thing you want is a leaning tower of wedding cake... Something fun, easy and very nice for the groom's cake is marzipan fruit. You can make them now, and keep them for months. They are tasty too! :) If you are interested, I can PM you the recipe and directions and tips. (I taught a marzipan class..I think I can find my notes, but I make it all the time, so it won't be hard)

Gotta go...Tom just got home!

Thanks, Monet. You da bomb! :)
When cutting a cake with the dowels, is there a trick to doing this deftly and gracefully, without "attacking" the dowels. Also, since I've never cut a wedding cake (My mom didn't get me one. :( ) do you start with the bottom layer or middle layer? You can tell I have a lot to learn. :)

Menu today:
B. Grapenuts with sk. milk. I was in a rush.
L. BIG salad with tomatoes, lettuces, 2.5 oz. ham, non-fat cottage cheese, orange segments, 1/4 avocado, walnuts and onions, and lo cal dressing.
D. WW spaghetti with meat sauce and green beans with slivered almonds.

I'm hungry. Think I'll go fix my spaghetti.

Dinner turned out pretty good. I fixed a boxed spice preparation for Keemu curry, which is made with minced meat (read that ground beef!) I also fixed sauteed spinach, and brown rice. Unfortunately, my bag of spinach went bad since I bought it on Friday with Talitha, so we only had a tiny bit of spinach that was edible. My son is on his way to the grocery store to get me more to fix to put in lunches. It turned out pretty awesome, according to him. :) I just used ghee, and sauteed it with garlic. So simple but oh so good!

I feel stuffed now! Tom is working on my car, and I am taking a breather. :)

CINDY: I will be thinking of you tomorrow and praying all goes well!

Cindy- We'll all bethinking of you tomorrow! good luck!

I'm starting to work on my grocery list for next week. dh gets a free ham from work so I'll cook it and take half to MIL and keep half here for "leftovers". I also make mashed potatoes to take every year by request from MIL to help out, and I will be keeping that tradition this year. I plan to eat a small portion of everything I want, the key is keeping it a "SMALL" portion. ;) Sean and Rachel want me to make my cookies that I make "every year, mom" :chef: One is a mint cookie with andes mint pieces and the other is a swedish pepperkakor (gingersnap). I bought some splenda blend white and brown sugar to try. I was afraid straight splenda may leave them with a funky taste. I also think I may use whole wheat or a combo of ww and regular flour for the gingersnaps. I don't know how it would work with the mint? :p I'll try to make them at least a little healthier! :smug: Maybe I can keep them put up and only enjoy a few at a time, :chin: I don't want us to feel totally deprived. I guess everything in moderation is appropriate at this time of year! :carrot:

GATOR: Generally, you try to keep the cake looking intact as long as possible. If you do three layers, traditionally, the top layer is to keep for the first anniversary. Take it off and put it aside. Then, you cut the middle layer. Depending on the size, you cut in a pattern to give you the wedding size pieces that are traditional. For instance, on a 10 inch cake, I would cut all around in a circle about 2-3 inches from the outside edge. Then, I would cut one inch thick pieces all around that outside circle and wedges in the center piece. The key here is to have 2 inch, by 1 inch by 3 inch deep pieces when you are done. Larger cakes, you just cut more circles, smaller cakes, you have to change the pattern a bit, but it is the same sized piece. The dowels, or plastic tubes (I highly recommend them...they don't slip, and are as cheap as the dowels! Michaels has them, or JoAnns. they come four to a package and are about 12 inches long, so you get about three supports from each one. One package ought to do you. Since you have never done a tiered cake before, you will be better off with the tubes.) It seems like it would be difficult to cut a cake with the supports in, but its not. Just pull them out and put them aside, then cut on. Once you cut the whole middle layer, remove the cardboard, and proceed to cut the bottom layer. Oh, and when you stack the cakes, sprinkle powdered sugar on the top of the cakes, under the cardboard of the layer on top. This keeps the cardboard from pulling off all the icing when you go to move it. Some people use a sprinkle of coconut as well. It depends on whether it 'goes' with the flavor of the cake..but I rarely find it necessary. Once you stack those cakes, don't try to move it much. Its best to move it as little as possible to keep from having the tiers shift, or anything.

The good news for the night is that Tom fixed my car!!! I am back to having wheels again woo hoo!

I did pretty well today.

B- SMoothie- 1 Scoop protein, 8 oz skim milk, 1/2 a banana 7 grapes
S- 4 triscuits, an orange
L- Lentil soup, spinach salad
s- Laughing cow cheese, 5 triscuits
D- Bratwurst, field green salad, steamed green beans, a little bit of mashed potatoes (it's Monet's fault!! She gave me some and they looked good!!)
S- Tapioka pudding

I know, I ate allot. I'm tryint to just stick to OK stuff. I obviously shouldn't be actively trying to lose weight, but I'm deffintely going to try to control what I'm eating. I have exercised yesterday and today. I'm actually feeling really good right now :)

Cindy- We'll be praying for you!!

Monet- My spinach went bad, too. Last time I was able to keep it a whole week. It was bad by monday!!! Stinks

Gator- You'll have so much fun doing the cake!!! You can order organic roses and flowers through the internet, too.... It would be interesting to compare the stuff that we are told today about having a good pregnancy, to what it would have been years ago. I don't really follow all of it anyway. I jsut try to stay healthy. I gained 14 lbs with selah and 15 with Jake. I have a feeling this one will be much different.

Pancho- Thanks :)

Toni- Dinner sounds great!!

Bob- You poor thing!! GEt some rest, seriously..

Goodnight to all

Is it Wednesday already?? Iam back after my normally busy Tuesday. No time to post yesterday!! So I'm having my coffee and catching up!!
Breakfast today was a smoothie made with plain lowfat yogurt, strawberries, milk and splenda. Snack will be a protein bar. I think I will finish up my tuna from yesterday as a sandwich and have some green beans with it for lunch. Thats as far as I got for planning today. I need to go to the store and pick up some fruits and veggies. I am getting down to the last of it!!!

Ok- we were supposed to come up with a recipe for Turkey Day. I "normally" make lots of pies. But I am only picking one kind this year and making it- pumpkin. I don't like pumpkin very much, so I can pass on it no problem. BUT>>>> for a legal dessert, I was gonna do a layered trifle thing with angel food cake cut up, sugar free pudding, strawberries, and my own homemade whipped cream made with splenda. We'll see how it turns out. My mom is doing SB with me and is diabetic, so she can have it too! I am just gonna make my normal stuffing (celery, onions, poultry seasoning, sage and butter) with ww bread instead of white. I'll make some mashed yams, and even my mom is making her cheese sauce for the broccoli with ww flour instead of white!! I'll make ww dinner rolls instead of having the usual cheapo white ones. I also make this crab dip with the imitation crabmeat- anyone know if that stuff has added sugar? I haven't gotten to the store to check. I normally serve it on triscuits, so that's all set. My problem will be controlling my PORTIONS (as usual. ) So, thats about it. :chef:

PONCHO: I wanted to say hi and to thank you for those beautiful "words of wisdom" at the end of your post. That was exactly what I needed to read. We have been really struggling with finances lately and I have been feeling sorry for myself. That really made me take a look at my heart!!

CINDY- Thinking of you today while at your appointment!! Let us know how it goes if you are feeling up to posting!!!

THIN- My family LOVES anything with mint! Those Andes candies are my kids favorites! I may have to try those cookies for Christmas!! (For the kids, for the kids..... :) )

MONET- :carrot: carrot dance for the fixed car!! Yippee!!!

BOB- Hope you feel better!!! This stomach thing seems to hang on forever- :?:

TALITHA- glad your feeling better. I was soooo morning (and evening and afternoon) sick with both my girls. I bet your eating better will have a great effect on your being sick!!! I wish I had known about this when I was pregnant!!!

Alright, I know I missed some replies, but I am not gonna hit my back button and lose everything again!!! I have backbuttonphobia now. Have great day everyone.

There is an interesting article on MSN online today. I apoligize in advance for the length. :o

Sickeningly Sweet: The Effects of High-Fructose Corn Syrup
________________________________________
By Marin Gazzaniga for MSN Health & Fitness

Start reading the labels of processed foods and you may be surprised at the number of items–from spaghetti sauce to English muffins–that contain high-fructose corn syrup(HFCS) —a combination of fructose and dextrose. There was a time when these types of foods were sweetened with good old-fashioned sugar. But in the 30-plus years since it was introduced, HFCS has gone from accounting for less than 1 percent of caloric sweeteners used in processed food, to representing 42 percent of added caloric sweeteners—mainly because it is cheaper and sweeter.
There’s something else that has risen dramatically in the past three decades: the obesity rate, and Type 2 diabetes. Current estimates are that 60 million American adults (age 20 or older) are obese. That’s 30 percent of the population. Childhood obesity has tripled in that time. Could there be a link?
Blame the Big Gulps?
In July, the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) called on the FDA to require health warnings on sodas. According to Peter J. Havel, an endocrinologist at UC Davis, researchers and epidemiologists suspect that increased HFCS, particularly in sodas, is a contributing factor to the rise in obesity, though certainly not the only one, and, to date, no direct causal link has been proved. Sodas are the focus of inquiry for several reasons: the prevalent use of HFCS in non-diet soft drinks, the increasingly large serving sizes and the possibility that certain properties of HFCS may interact with hormones involved in body weight modulation.
Dr. George Bray is a professor of medicine at Louisiana State University, and has looked at whether HFCS in beverages has played a role in the increase in obesity in the U.S. He says that two-thirds of the high-fructose corn syrup Americans consume is in soft drinks. “If you add a single soft drink to an otherwise balanced energy level [meaning you are burning as many calories and you are taking in] for one year you will accumulate an additional 15 pounds,” says Bray.
And many are drinking more than one pop a day. According to CSPI, "Carbonated soft drinks are the single biggest source of calories in the American diet, providing about 7 percent of calories; adding in noncarbonated drinks brings the figure to 9 percent. Teenagers get 13 percent of their calories from carbonated and noncarbonated soft drinks

The table sugar versus HFCS debate
All sugars are not alike. Sugars are carbohydrates and sweet to the taste (anything ending in -ose in ingredient lists is a sugar). The sugars at the heart of the HFCS issue are: sucrose (table sugar), fructose (fruit sugar) and glucose (also known as dextrose).
The Corn Refiners Association and other special interest groups rebut the idea
that there’s anything wrong with HFCS. They claim there’s no difference between HFCS and table sugar because both are made up of about 50 percent fructose and 50 percent glucose.
“They are wrong,” says Bray. As he explains, HFCS is a solution with fructose and glucose as separate molecules, whereas sucrose -again, that’s table sugar- is a single molecule coupling fructose and glucose. Because of this, there are twice as many molecules of sweetener in a 10 percent solution of HFCS as in a 10 percent solution of sugar. “This makes the fructose in the HFCS solution more available to stimulate the sweet receptors on the tongue.” Translation: HFCS may make the soft drinks more desirable for their sweetness than if they were sweetened with ordinary sugar. Bray also suggests that the higher molecule number may play a role in the way sweetened sodas enhance our desire to eat (or drink) more.
Size matters
No one is suggesting that high-fructose corn syrup is the sole culprit in the obesity rise. As Dr. Robert Rizza, president of the American Diabetic Association says: “Any food that is consumed in excess can result in any of us having more calories than our bodies need. So if you’re using high-fructose syrups of any kinds in certain kinds of foods, in sodas, colas, that indeed could contribute. On the other hand if you were consuming it as part of a balanced diet with a balanced number of calories you’d be fine.” It all boils down to moderation and balance.
As for diabetes, obesity is a known contributor to Type 2 diabetes. And according to Rizza, this disease is a growing problem that we need to take very seriously: “One in three Americans born in 2000 will develop diabetes, which is currently the major cause of blindness, renal failure, heart disease strokes, nerve disease.”
Americans need to get serious about keeping their weight down. As Havel says, “Bottom line? Don’t eat too much sugar (of any kind) or fat and exercise more. If you don’t have a weight problem and drink sweetened beverages, try to limit yourself to one a day, rather than five.”
If you want to avoid high-fructose corn syrup, start by reading the labels of processed foods. The higher up on the ingredient list HFCS is listed, the more there is. Consider using artificial sweeteners, in moderation, and keep in mind that eating foods as close to their natural form is a good way to keep additional sugars out of your diet. You’re already sweet enough.

Maybe people are starting to get the idea that a sugar-busters type diet is the way to go! ;)

Good morning. I just got back from the Y and I'm feeling really good. I made me DR appt for Monday, the 28th. They'll do a sonogram to figure out my actual due date since it's not as obvious as with the others. Also figures out our new insurance :( We had great insurance before this new job. We paid $300 for Selah and only $20 for Jake!!! Pretty crazy if you include all of the extra problems I had. This one's going to run more like $3,000- $4,000. Trying not to stress out about it. At least we have awhile to save up!

Selah and Jake are both getting colds. I'm taking my antioxidant and stuff, so hopefully I will stay ok. ANyone know if Eccinecia is ok while pregnant? I've got a triple blend that is awesome, but I'm not sure if I can take it.

B- 1 slice of Sourdough toast w/ real butter
S- Stir fried vegetables left over, no sauce.. Oh so good!!

MUNCH- I actually did SB through my second pregnancy and felt better, although I was still sick the whole 9 months both times. I'm really counting on the water aerobics giving me more energy. I think it will be great!

Monet- Back on the road again!!! Hope the kiddos behave

Pancho- Thanks for that note. I needed that :)

Thin- I've read that article befire. IT's great!! THanks

I need to go make some calls. Can't let work slip. The only way I'm going to have room for this kid in the car is if I earn my Mercedes bonus by next June!!!! GOtta get on it!!

EVENING EVERY BUDDY!!

Went to work...STAYED ALL DAY!!! :carrot: :carrot: I did talk to my Boss about my missing all that I did. My concern was coming to work and then having to leave. Usually, everytime you miss it's an unexcused absence. He told me that by my coming to work and trying to work that in his book, I was giving an effort. He said he would rather us come to work and try to make it. When your sick, your sick and that there would be no corrective action taken. WHEW!!

I'm still not feeling 100% but do feel a little better.

CINDY...hope everything went ok today...I'm send good thoughts your way!

I'll be back...got to fix some supper...Yesterday, I pressured some stew beef and potatoes..Kate will have that with some corn bread. I don't know what I'm going to have...maybe some chicken...

For some reason, it feels like Friday to me. School went great. My friend who is a portrait artist came and talked to the classes. She is SO awesome, and her work is incredible. The kids loved her. I am now off until the 29th! Yeah! We are going to my mother in law's for a few days, since we will not be going for Thanksgiving, or Christmas this year. Tom is taking a week of vacation, which started today at noon for him. He is so excited to be off work finally. We both need a vacation really badly. Hopefully going to the MIL's will be a nice break.

I need to go look at the freezer and pick something for dinner... be back later!

Munch: I just looked at the Weather Channel radar and it looks like you guys are getting pounded by lake effect!! You're so lucky!! I'm always just a few miles north of the bands on this end of the lake. And I make smoothie's like your's...try a capful of vanilla! It adds just the right amount of umpf.

Cindy: Glad you're on the other side of things. And that you're feeling up to snuff enough to say hi!!

BOB: So glad to see you had a good day today.

Talitha: I wish I were pregnant. But I feel for you being sick through it all. I was only sick in my first trimesters. I see why you're so uptight with the insurance issues. I had the same problem when I was pregnant with Kyle and my neighbor said, "Just think...in 18 years you get to pay for college, too!" Hey, what are friends for, right? Are there any state-funded things you can apply for? I'd ask at the doctor's office if they know of anything that will help you out. The girls in the office might know of something. Another good friend used to say, too, "It's just money...somehow, there's always enough to get you by and everything will work itself out." OH...and exercise is soooo good for you when you are PG. And the added oxygen you get in your blood stream is great for the baby, too!!

Monet:  (Aren't these little buggers cute?) I'm so glad your day went well at school. I love to draw faces. I started drawing them when I was a teenager babysitting. I'd bring magazines, turn on some music and sketch out the faces in them. I did a fabulous picture of Jim Morrison, once. I wonder what ever happened to that...but I'm trying my best to teach Shelley how to draw them. She likes to draw faces, too, but gets too frustrated too easily when the eyes don't look right or she doesn't get the right angle.

So, I'm waiting for our first big snowfall tonight. :carrot: I just LOVE the snow! AND...I did another chunk of airdyne biking...at least I started to, but the friggen thing BROKE!! I swear to the powers that be that I didn't do it on purpose. :s: Although I thought about it. So, I decided to lay on my be and listen to the iPod while I do crunches and leg lifts and my iPod died and needed charging. :^: So, my best efforts of exercising got sabotaged.

Dinner was a BLT on WW, lunch was an open faced ham sandwich on sourdough after I had some carmel corn we made at preschool...not legal on two counts (popCORN and carmel) and I had Life cereal for breakfast. Tomorrow will be a better day.

Okay...time to hit the sack!!

Good evening ladies.....

I was on the run first thing this morning so forgot to stop by. Our beef was ready so had to go and pick it up. The freezer is full again, so guess we won't starve this winter.
Went back out hunting with dh tonight again..........score is deer 3, Ted 0!! There was a gorgeous buck that showed up, he was quite a ways away and instead of waiting to see if he would come closer, Dh shot and missed!! I giggle, but he wasn't too happy about it.
I am really getting excited, as part of my Mom's Christmas present, I am taking her to see the Lion King. The musical is here and playing until the 4th of Dec. We are going Sunday afternoon. My SIL went last week, and said it was awesome. Can't wait. I love theater. I took her to see her first musical, "Hello Dolly" this past spring. My dh or the boys won't go with me, so it is nice that Mom is getting interested in it. It is much more fun to plan a day of it, meet for lunch and then go to the show. There are eight of us going this Sunday. Should be a blast!!
My dh is such a sweetheart.......he told me to order my new computer today......my Dell with be here on the 22nd. I told him that this would be my Christmas, Birthday, Valentines, and Anniversary gift! I have enough hard drive and memory on this new one that I should never run out. Also got the 20" ultra sharp flat panel monitor. Will be nice to see the screen for a change.
I am going to revamp this one, and give it to my Uncle down in Utah. He spends a lot of time tracing our Native American heritage. You wouldn't believe the work he has put into this. I know that he could get some good use out of it. And he won't be doing all the photo's and such that I do that burns up all my memory.
It is late, and I am sorry that I don't have replies today, I do want to say to Cindy that I am glad that everything went well.
Night, night......

Morning. Im up early and feeling more of myself.
I have a hair appt this morning and have plans to go shopping with my dd so as I get awake here I should know more how I feel. But I think Im A ok. A question I have though for anyone whos had a IV with saline.... Does that make you gain water weight cause I am up 7 ( if that wasnt enough to make me very upset this morning) pounds from yesterday to today. Dh says its from the IV...is that so?

techwife
11-17-2005, 08:19 AM
Cindy: I've had that saline IV a few times and they always make me really puffy. Don't sweat it...it'll be a fast 8 pounds to loose!!

Colleen: :carrot: Hooray for Bambi!! :lol3: I'd love to see the Lion King. I used to just love play productions, but then my brother sister got their kids all involved in the school plays and, although I'm super-proud of my nieces and nephews, when I see my family, it's ALL they talk about and they have gotten involved in the casting of the shows and they sit and talk about how "I can't believe so-and-so's mother would even let him audition...I was so embarassed for him", "So-and-so is such a snob","my kid is so much better than that kid" :barf: It just makes me sick! So, whenever I see/hear showtunes, I think of my brother and sister and their horrible comments and gossip. I mean, they're jsut kids!! How petty! But I DO love a great production and the Lion King will be fabulous!!

My poor DD. She's still coughing to beat the band. I sent her off to school anyway because you know how often times you feel better once you get going, but sent an e-mail to the nurse to let her know she may be getting visited by Shelley and that I'm more than happy to come get her if she needs me to.

Oh...and the snow...we have NONE! The lake effect band is south of us...as usual!!

Okay...gotta run. Talk to you guys later on...Kris

Cindy--I'm so glad to see that you are doing OK. Have a great day shopping.

Teensy--My DH is part Native American, 1/16th. His great grandmother married a Cherokee indian. However my DH has no traces of that in his appearance: he is blond.

Hi Thin.

Tech--Your weather reports are so interesting. I hope you get snow soon. It is cloudy here today and I am supposed to play golf. It is cool, in the 60's and I wonder if it is going to rain. Hope not. I don't like temps much below 65. Lower than that and I freeze.

Ellen

CINDY: Yes, the IV can cause you to gain. When I had my surgery I was up 15! It all went away when I took a diuretic! I am glad you are doing so well!

TEENSY: My hubby is 1/16 Cherokee Indian...and unlike Gator's hubby, he LOOKS it. :) :cheer: Hooray for the new computer!

TECH: Bummer on the exercise equipment fullfilling your fantasies and breaking! Maybe you ought to dream about winning the lottery and go buy a ticket! :lol3: I have a great book that would help you teach your daughter to draw...PM me if you want the title. You might enjoy doing the lessons in it too.

Ok, Tom is yelling at me to get moving! I have a few errands to run before we head on out, and we want to stop at the Menonite restaurant half way there for lunch, so I better go! See you all on Saturday!

Good afternoon. I didn't get to teh Y this monring. I had 2 lunch presentatations for Christmas gifts back to back. They went really well. I sold $800 at one, in 30 minutes!!! I'm pretty excited.

The babysitter let Jacob fall asleep and sleep for over 2 hours. now he son't take a nap, and I need one :(

Breakfast was a smoothie Had 2 triscuits midmorning. I drank a gingerale at one of the meetings, becuase my bloodsugar was getting low. And I jsut ate a bowl of Dahl and a WW Tortilla for lunch. Soooooooo good!!!

Teensy- How cool to be Native American!! We're not anything interesting. Although, I claim to be 1/8th African American. Mainly when I'm in a conversation with someone being racist. I like to piss them off. My dad is adopted, so it could be true. If you saw all of our hair and bodyshape, I bet I could convince you, too.

Tech- You would never do that on purpose, right?

Cindy- It's totally the IV. It'll be gone in no time

EVeryone else :carrot: Have a great afternoon!!

Good afternoon Sugar Buster's!!

Not much going on today. I sat down and planned out our Thanksgiving dinner menu. I am staying 100% legal, so there will be no excuses. I have a loaf of 100% ww bread in the machine right now, and that is going to be my stuffing base. I always let my Mom make it though, her's is the best!! We will have the traditional turkey, stuffing, potatoes, gravy, (sweet potatoes for me) stuffed celery, olives, cranberries made with Splenda, greenbean casserole, squash. I am making a sf pumpkin pie, sf apple pie, and I already have a sf blackberry pie in the freezer. So........thumbs up!!

My Great Grandpa was 1/4 Ute Indian, my Grandmother and all of my Uncles receive tribal distribution. Because of the fact that in my Grandmother's day, she was teased all the time about being a half-breed, she didn't register her two daughters when they were born. Now it is too late as they have changed the charters, by-laws or whatever you call them. My Mom is not enough Native American to qualify for distribution along with her brothers now. But she is part of a suit to have her name admitted to the roles even though she will never get anything from it. All she cares about is her heritage. She doesn't care about the money. My younger sister and I were the lucky ones, we both have the high cheek bones with the dark complexion, and I have the dark brown eyes where as Ginny's are blue. My Grandmother looks 100% Native American, and my Mother is beginning to look just like her, and I just like Mom......

Cindy-- I am sure it is just water......look at the nice loss you will see in the next couple of days!!

Tech-- It is a shame that some parents have to ruin everything.......the children should be having fun with it, not cutting each others throats for certain parts!! At their age, is should be all about learning.

Tech-- I grew up next door to a family that had 4 children, the mother was Native American. The two oldest girls Barbara, and Donna were both dark complexioned, dark eyes and hair. The younger two Laurie and Keith were both red heads with green eyes!!

Monet-- Yes, I am very excited about the new computer. This one is pretty old and really hasn't been the same since it's modem got fried. I am hoping that once I remove all of my picture programs and calendar programs it will run okay for my Uncle.

Talitha-- That is funny. My dh was raised up north with the Kalispel Indians, and he wishes more than anything that he was N/A too. But I think he is stuck with his Irish.....and he certainly looked it in his younger years. Red hair, freckles, blue eyes.....

Well, ladies.......I am out of here, time to start getting bundled up to go hunting again....I sure hope that he can get something soon. It ends Saturday, so only three days left.

EVENING EVERY BUDDY!!!

IT'S A GREAT DAY HERE IN SARASOTA!!! JOSEPH SMITH WHO TWO YEARS AGO KIDNAPPED, RAPED AND KILLED LITTLE 11 YR OLD CARLIE BRUCIA WAS FOUND GUILTY OF ALL CHARGES!!! When the verdict came in, three big blasts of a very loud horn system went off to let everyone know that he had been found guilty! Our whole community has been so deeply involved. It's been very hard to watch the family, film of Carlie as he led her away that fateful night!
The sentencing phase starts on the 28th. MAY HE ROT IN ****!!

Well, I ate really well yesterday..... until the kids went to bed. I posted Breakgast and lunch already.
D- Baked chicken, Steamed broccoli w/ onion and red bell peppers, brown/wild rice mix.

Isn't that great? I did so well. The problem is that, as a reward, I somehow decided that I needed brownies and icecream. It was an evil PREMEDITATED plan. I actually drove to my nice new Publix in Atlantic Station. This is not an easy shopping place. I had to park in a parking deck and go up an elevator. Plenty of time to rethink my evil plot.... I picked out all of the evil items, and found that I had left my wallet at home. And did I take that as a sign from God NOT to make brownies???? No, bad Tally drove home grabbed the wallet and ran back. Not only did I grab my brownie mix and icecream (Hands over face in shame)... I had to grab some Egg Nog, too!!!!! all I can say is that the baby wanted it...

After making the brownies, I really only ate a small one, with a small serving of SF vanilla. Not so bad afterall. BUt the rest of the pan is sitting there today. RIght now I dpn't even feel tempted by it. We'll see how long that lasts...

ANybody know what to do about ROACHES?????? I've never had to deal with them before. I've seen 3 over the last week, and now I jsut was 3 more this morning. DO they come in b/c of the cold? THey are really freaking me out!!!! I can handle any other bug, no problem with spiders, but roaches....... AAAAAAAAAAggggggggggHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

Teensy. Stuffing sounds great!!

Solly- Have a great day off!!

Bob- That's horrible. THey actually ahve a video of him taking her??? Let us know about the sentencing.

I'm going to try to get to the Y before MOPS.

I just wanted to jump on and wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving next week. I'm sure I won't be on much before then. The weekend is busy, and Monday and Tuesday are packed full of things to be done. Lane has Turkey Trot day at school on Tuesday (outdoor fun and games), and Britt has her Thanksgiving feast at school that day. I will be bouncing back and forth between classrooms to help out at both. I then will have to get home that day and pack. We will leave early on Wed. for Disneyland.

My friend who had a baby last year (with the same heart defect that Heart's Boogie has) is in town for a few days, and I want to see her before she leaves. She and her family moved to Seattle last year shortly after the baby was born. Her daughter had a heart transplant and has made it to her first birthday, but not without many setbacks. It is also her son's 5th birthday, so I have gifts to buy and get delivered.

I hope you all are able to stay as OP as possible over the holiday OR are able to enjoy what you want without feeling guilty about it. Just remember portion sizes. There's no reason why you can't enjoy some of what you want as long as you keep the portion sizes small.

A few real quick replies:

Cindy: I am glad that you are feeling better. When will the pathology reports be in? I will continue to pray for good results.

BOB: I am so happy that MONSTER was found guilty, although if he gets the death penalty it still is not enough. He should have to endure some type of unimaginable pain other than a small poke in the vein. I know I sound cruel, but if that was my child.....it would take every last bit of strength I had not to kill him myself. I am a Christian, but forgiveness for someone like that is out of the question in my mind. I sometimes am sad to think of the world my children are growing up in. I am glad you are feeling better.

Monet: I am so glad you got your car fixed; it is such a pain to not be able to get where you need to go without having to rely on someone else. I hope Tom enjoys his time off work, and you your time off school. Have a nice time at the MIL's.

Everyone else...have a wonderful day and a very Happy Thanksgiving. I can't believe when we get back from DL, it will be time to take down all the turkeys and start putting up x-mas decorations and the tree. Where does the time go?

Take care,
Nat

Hi everyone. I got my new couches this morning. Yea. They are so comfy. As soon as dh got home from hunting we had to get the protectant on we purchased cause I was so worried about doggy slobber...lol
Im feeling all the way back to normal today. Im even going exercising here in a couple of hours.
I am not weighing for at least a week. That was just too depressing yesterday even if its from the IV. My results should be in when I go for my recheck on Dec 2.

Talitha- I have only had roaches once and that was like 25 years ago when my ex and I moved into our first apartment. We were so excitied , expecting our first baby spent the day moving everything thing in getting the baby's room all set up . It was dark when we finally sat down to relax and thats when the nightmare began. First we saw one roach then another and another and they seemed to be everywhere. We kept killing everyone we saw. Then I was so exhausted I said I was going to bed .. pulled back the covers and they were in the BED!!!! I grabbed my keys went to my moms and never went back ! My ex had to move everything into a garage of a friends and fog three times before I felt at peace to have my things back. This place was very clean you never would of suspected anything of the sort. Im sorry that doesnt answer your question . That was my only experience and I didnt stick around long enough to find out what to do.

Well thats about it for now. Im having our first Thanksgiving here tomorrow and I have a bigillion things to do. Have a great weekend !

LOL--Cindy, that was a funny story, especially because I identified with it so much. My Dh and I, 40 years later, still call our roach infested first apartment "the roach hole." It was such a cute, garage apartment. We cleaned before moving in and were so satified with ourselves. We sat down, dog tired on our couch, and watched as roach after roach came out after the sun set. In Florida the roaches are BIG, like 1" or more long, not counting the antennae. At night they would rustle around in the paper bags I kept stored under the sink for our garbage can. I never would wash dishes after dark because of the roaches rustling around down there! One night when my DH was working late I turned on the light in our bathroom (a very small room) and found 3 large ones running on the floor. All I had was the stay-down for a month spray, so I sprayed that on them anyway. They died all a-twitching and Ileaned waaay over and picked each one up with a paper towel and threw it all in the toilet. Then I mopped up the roach spray on the floor with more paper towels and threw them in the toilet. Then I flushed!! Everything came right back up--all those paper towels just jammed up in there. So I had water, roach spray, paper towels and ROACHES all on the bathroom floor. I just went to bed, crawled all the way under the covers and sobbed. My DH had to fix it all when he got home! Fond memories

Depending on what kind of roaches you have, you have several options. With older houses it is harder. That's not good news for you, Talitha. We once took in a girl in need and she brought german cockroaches with her luggage. I made her leave her big trunk out in the garage, but they got in anyway. After she moved out about 6 months later I took EVERYTHING, and I mean everything, out of my kitchen. I checked every can to make sure there were no roaches under the paper labels. With appliances, I left them in the kitchen. Dishes, silver, glassware, everything. I moved it all to another roach free room. Then I took out every drawer and sprayed with one of those gallons of "professional" roach killer that you can buy in places like Home Depot. I sprayed under drawers, on top of the sliders and runners that the drawers go in on. I sprayed every crack and crevice in the kitchen. With appliances I sprayed on their bottom and then set them on the counter and sprayed around them. I took as much apart on my stove I could and sprayed everything there. I did VERY CAREFULLY under the sink. I killed every last roach and have had no more problems with them in 20 years. You could also try boric acid and you can buy that in hardware stores also. And you could also try a professional spray service that does once a year service. We had that for about 3 years and it worked really well. I can't stand the once a month spray service because the house stinks like insecticide and I'm thinking "poison". But the once a year thing they hit the attic and around the house and pay a lot of attention to outlets and drains and other ways they can get in the house. We didn't have any smell. The service tech left that company and the following techs were no where near as good as the first, so we quit the service.

We went up to Gainesville last night. My DH flew out to Tallahassee at 5 am. and got back about 2. We left for Gainesville about 5. I played golf all yesterday, playing with a friend in a town about 40 min. from here. It was fun and I have not gotten any better or worse since I last touched a club about 6 months ago. I need to start practicing again. My DH had to attend a dinner in Gainesville. It lasted until about 11 and he was dead tired by the time he got to bed. We just stayed in a hotel up there and drove back today. I got my 30 minutes of weight lifting in right before lunch. My trainer worked me really hard today. I was glad to get out of there.

Cindy--We're praying for a good pathology report.

Talitha--Don't you know that God was trying every which way He could to thwart your plan to have that ice cream. Even having you leave you wallet at home.

Got this from MISSY...wanted to pass it along...it fits the PURPOSE!!!

After starting a new diet, I altered my drive to work to avoid
passing my favorite bakery. I accidentally drove by the bakery

this morning and, as I approached, there in the window were a

host of goodies. I felt this was no accident, so I prayed:

"Lord, it's up to you.... if you want me to have any of those
delicious goodies, create a parking place for me directly in front of the
bakery."

And sure enough, He answered my prayer: on the eighth time around
the block, there it was!!

HOPE EVERYONE HAS A GOOD DAY!!

I did very well yesterday. Only picked a few crunbs from the brownies, and got Travis and Selah to eat several. They're almost gone :) I did eat 1 small scoop of Ie cream. It's NSA so i figured that was better than the brownies.

Yesterday's menu:
B- Smoothie 1 Scoop protein, ice, water. I threw in 1/2 c of strawberry yogurt. It was REALLY good that way

L- Hot dog at SAm's club, no bun but 2 packs of saurkraut. Sp?

S- Little bit of Rotisserie chicken (started picking before dinner)

D- Rotisserie chicken breast. Steamed grean beans.

I had a skincare presentation last night. I did pretty well till the end of the night. I didn't eat enough at dinner. SO I did eat 1/2 a chocolate chip cookie. But I could have done worse. That's all they had there. Just the cookies. I was shaking and had to eat something. I came home and made another protein shake before I went to bed.

Bob- I googled and found some news reports. What a horible story. i saw some pictures. She was beautiful, and so little. I hope he gets the full sentence.

Pancho- That really upset me, too. How does someone do something like that to a child? or ANYONE? I thought about it all day yesterday. I held Selah and Jake more than usual. They are so precious and innocent. How could someone do it???

Gator- I know, I know, the baby made me do it :?: Thanks so much for the advice with the roaches!! Travis is going to have to deal with it. I actuall printed everything everyone wrote and gave it to Trav.

Thin- Cool, what are ya getting for me?????? Just kidding :p

Hey, everyone! We got in a little while ago, and went for a walk. The trip was wonderfully restful. I got a lot of knitting done, and feel 'destressed' now. Last night, we went to a restaurant my mother in law likes called The Catfish House. It was very very crowded, but worth the wait. Tom and I both got fried oysters, and sweet potato chips, and salad. The oysters were fabulous. On the way down there, we stopped at the Mennonite restaurant, Yoder's, and had broccoli casserole, roast beef, and fried okra, and I had about 1/4 of a piece of blueberry pie. I ate cornbread, and potatoes, and other no no's at my mother in laws, so I am hoping it doesn't look horrible on MMM.

TALITHA: You can get roach hotels, which are traps, that will help eliminate the bugs. Because our house is surrounded by pine trees, and roaches like pine straw, we are always battling them. Boric acid works very well too. It is not toxic to humans, but very toxic to roaches. Put it in corners, in a fine layer and as the roach runs through it, and picks it up on its feet, it then ingests it and it destroys its ability to make egg sacks. I found it VERY effective. I had to laugh about your brownie episode...when you forgot your wallet, and went back, you were being just plain rebellious!

CINDY: I am so glad you are back to normal!

PANCHO: Have a blast at Mickey land....

THIN: I love shopping online...TOO much! LOL

BOB: :crossed: Here's hoping you stay well now!

We are going to head out to dinner...I will be back later!

Happy Saturday evening all!!! Wow! This weekend has flown. I had a jewelry party to go to last night- that was fun. Had a bit too much wine- but it was red at least! There were lots and lots of baaaaaad snackies out for me to munch on- but I didn't!!! I had a couple small handfuls of nuts and some veggies and dip- that was it!!! Normally, I would've had my head in the food bowls grazing away with the excuse that its a "special" occasion!!!! So, with the exception of the wine, I was proud of myself.

I also went shopping today and got all my Turkey Day stuff. I am ready. I bought two pies I don't like instead of making ones from scratch that I love. I bought a frozen apple and pecan. NOW... if it were peanut butter pie or any kind of cream pie, I'd be in for it. I also got the LAST 20 lb turkey they had. I don't know why- it doesn't matter if we cook for 20 or for 5, my hubby just HAS to have a 20 pounder. It was the last day of the sale on turkeys and I snatched the last one- exactly 20 lbs too. My hubby is proud of me. :carrot:

I am chuckling (and have gotten chills!!) at the roach conversation. I had never seen a roach until I went to India about 10 years ago. They were so HUGE!!!! I could hear them running across the floor of the hotel we were in. You could've ridden those suckers!!!! And I would smack them HARD with a shoe or something, literally smushing them, and they'd still somehow run away. They are SOOOOO gross!!! But... they are unfortunately pretty hardy little fellers and kinda show up wherever they want. They don't discriminate!!! OK- now I am getting the willies again!!!

:thanks2: OMG!!! I just saw these turkeys!!!! Soooo cute! I just HAD to use them!!! Ok- I am gonna go watch some tv with my hubby. Gobble gobble.

Happy Sunday. Well I think I got through yesterday not too bad off. For our Thanksgiving with my dd and her dh, I had Turkey, stuffing, jello with cranberries, spinach/artichoke tart, romaine/spinach salad and a small slice of my dm's sf apple pie. Yesterday thats about all that I got done was cooking and cleaning then eating. After they all left dh and I just sat around and watched movies. This morning he is off hunting and I think Ill hit Walmart here shortly then dd picks me up in the afternoon to go to some "food" party at her mother in laws house.

Munch- that is truly a scary story of your adventure in India with the roaches.

Hey everyone! I have been trying to catch up today, and I am not making much progress! I went to the store and got stuff for the Thanksgiving dinner at church tonight, then prepared it and put it in the oven. I made green bean casserole and creamed corn. The church provides the turkey and dressing. I am planning my Thanksgiving meal... you all ready for this? Boiled beef in dill sauce, potato dumplings, green bean casserole, spinach salad and legal pecan/chocolate fudge pie. My daughter is bringing desserts...tropical fruit topped cheesecake, and pumpkin pie from her Publix bakery. (she is a cake decorator there) No one here really likes turkey, so we have other things. I thought it was going to be pork roast but my daughter begged for dill sauce, and that goes with the beef better....

Tom has been working on the plumbing some today, and I think he has the pipe to the toilet in our bathroom done. He said it looks like it made a good joint, so I imagine he will be checking it in a few minutes and will be able to tell if it worked.

I am going to go get in a short nap before church, so I will try and get back later.

I did buy some of the spices. They sound like theyd be good to cook with.
