For those who like to log their walking on here and make goals sooner rather than later (like myself) I went ahead and started this thread.

I walked 2 miles because I had other things to do today, I couldn't do more. How about you guys? :carrot:

I'm joining in on this! I've just recently started doing Leslie Sansone's Walk Away the Pounds, so I'm ready to set a walking goal. My goal for this month is to walk 40 miles.
Wish me luck on reaching my goal! :)

November Miles : 23 (as of 11/21)

I'll jump in with you. I'm gonna set my goal at 50 miles. Right now I'm doing a mile a day with an occasional extra mile thrown in but I really want to work up to doing 2 miles at least every other day.

Boo! I'm here! LOL

My walking (and my life) has been totally messed up due to Hurricane Rita blowing thru down here in Louisiana. I've been running around like a chicken with my head cut off but as we all know, that usually doesn't count as much exercise.

I had made up my mind that with the time change I would take advantage of that extra hour in the mornings (since I'm use to waking up at the same old time) and it has taken me a few days, but finally this morning I got up at 5 am and did 2 power miles with Leslie

November Miles = 2

I hope everybody is doing good and that we all have a great "on track" month.

hugs & blessings,
Cathy

I bet it's been a tough experience for you, Cathy. Hopefully things are getting better:).

I walked 3 miles today (my pedometer said 5 but I do believe it was off by a lot). :carrot:

Welcome everyone, let's keep up the good work!:)

Cathy I'm so sorry you have had to live through that mess but at least your ok.

I managed 2 more miles today putting me at 4 out of 50!

I'm so glad you started up the November thread!

I haven't been able to exercise for several weeks due to a problem in my foot. Saw the podiatrist last night. He gave me a cortisone shot, said to rest it and ice it for a couple of days, and try walking again on the weekend. He called it "anterior tibia tendonitis."

I'm going to set the goal for 35 and hope I go higher.

I did my first walk in 3 weeks today - 1.5 miles, no pain! :carrot:

Which WATP DVD does everyone do. I looked today at borders but the one with 1, 2 & 3 miles was together for $50. Then they only had the 15 minute which seemed too short and the 4 miles which seemed too hard.

Hello everyone! I have been kinda M.I.A the past 2 months but Im back. Im now living with my bf and his parents...still adjusting to that, it is good we didnt move out on our own b/c my bf got laid off about a month ago, he has a new job now.

Anyway Im babysitting right now as a job, so I've been getting in some walking, my eating habits still need to improve more, but Im working on it...AGAIN lol I just hope this time I can stick to it.

Anyway since November 1st here is walking I've done:
1st - 15 minutes
2nd - 20 minutes
3rd - 1 hour
4th - 45 minutes
5th - 20 - 30 minutes (walking around the mall doing some shopping)

Roughly 8.5 miles at 3mph pace...

Next week I hope to walk at least 15 minutes (MINIMUM) for 5 days. 30 minutes would be more ideal however but Im going to start off slow and get back into it! Or about 4miles a week, so my goal for the month is I'll say 25 miles.

Eventually I want to add in some strength exercises, Im going to start slow with them too...maybe just some crunches and some basic arm and leg exercises 3 times a week to start.

Eating needs to improve, Im good during breakfast and lunch...then around 4pm when I get home Im starving and then the rest of my day is just BLAH lol I need to CONTROL myself and learn to grab an apple and not some cookies. Baby steps.

Anyway I hope to keep walking this time, Im glad to be back here, everyone else seems to be doing great! :)

Oh Ive also changed my goal, Ive gained some weight the past couple months :( Im now up to around 220, so I'd like to be 150 by next November 1st, which shouldnt be toooo hard that is only 5-6lbs/mth!! :) *fingers crossed*

Dinahgirl -- Thanks:). I hope your foot starts getting even better quick! Congrats on being able to walk that much! :carrot:

I hope everyone keeps up the walking and it's good to see new ones:). I think I may have overworked myself and I slacked off these last past three days :(, but I'm not letting that discourage me.

Valorie Joy - I usually just walk outside but when I do use WATP I use the express one mile brisk walk.. it's the only one I could find but I plan on ordering more.. sorry I couldn't be of much help! Try looking under the "Fitness Video" to see some of the more popular ones:). Oh, and also.. if you have no problem with ordering off the net.. then try overstock.com! They have good prices and good shipping rates;). (My sister adores that site.. haha)

Now I really must get to bed:).

I found the WATP videos at Target. I got 1,2 and 3 mile for only $20 there!

I did the one mile yesterday and I'm going to try the 2 mile today!

11-06-2005, 06:48 PM
Whoa, that's a good price! I wish we had a Target here instead of having to go an hour away:). Anyways, I hope to walk today, but it's getting late and in an hour it will be dark and I won't be back home until about 3 hours so I'm going to try to do what I can while I am out..

:carrot: let's make this thread a busy one!

I got the 1 and 2 mile 2-in-1 express DVD for about $6 on ebay. + about $4 s&h, so it cost me a total of about $10. :carrot: Ebay is where I intend to get the 3 & 4 mile DVDs, too. I did a lot of hunting and that's where I found the WATP DVDs to be the cheapest.
You should check it out :)

I've got the one called the Walk Diet. It has a 1 mile and a 2 mile routine. I also have the Walk and Kick one but I've only done half of it once, still too much on my knee.

I'm up to 9 miles for the month! I just might try the treadmill tomorrow. It's ancient and takes alot of work to do very little so I may not get much done but I'm gonna try.

Dinahgirl
11-07-2005, 07:20 PM
Has anybody tried the George Foreman walking dvds? I bought a set of 2 today at Borders for $25. (Individually they were !9.99) I did the Walk and Box one this afternoon and I really like it a lot. The other one is a circuit training one. It doesn't measure the miles like WATP, but I'm going to call it 3 miles because it was 45 minutes.

ambabs
11-07-2005, 07:23 PM
I did try the george forman ones, got it from blockbuster.com, but I couldn't do it. Too much bob and weave. My knee just couldn't take it and I coped out after about 10 minutes.

Count me for 12 miles this month. Today was my official weighin day, 8 pound total loss!! Anyways the fear of the scale hit me last night and I ended up doing 3 miles yesterday and another this morning.

Dinahgirl
11-07-2005, 08:05 PM
I meant to write that individually they were 19.99, not !9.99. That wouldn't have been much of a deal. lol I'll be careful with my knees, Ambabs, but I suppose you could do just the walking rather than the bobbing and weaving. I was looking for a little change, although I love Leslie, too.

Hi everyone! Hey Trixie! :welcome2: I've been MIA too. I kinda quit exercising when we moved in July. I'm trying to get back into it again cause I got a little lumpy again. All my fault. Ugh.

Anyways, I got in a quick 1/2 mile today at lunch. Hope to get in more throughout the week. I can't believe its still in the 80's here in Texas! :sunny: Ok I'm outta here. :moped:

Hello Everyone! Hello ShoeQueen! Welcome back as well! hehe I also moved in July and started to lag behind with the exercise then...I tried to get back into it before now but this time I really want to stick to it (I say that everytime lol)

I walked 45 minutes on monday (15 to the post office and back, 20 to the corner store to pick up a paper and 10 to my babysitting job and back) 2.3 miles

I walked about 25 minutes yesterday (post office, and closer corner store to pick up paper because my boyfriends hip hurt so I didnt want to make him walk too far) 1.3 miles

I am up to 12.1 miles for November!

I've also lost 2lbs since last monday - I was 224.5, monday I was 223.5, Tuesday I was 223, today I am 222.5. I know it is probably just water weight but seeing results makes me want to try harder!

As far as my eating, I was doing weight watchers and couldnt figure out why by 3 or 4 I would have around 10 or less points left..I calculated the calories of everything and realized I was just over 1000, so if I was on a 1500 calorie diet I would only have 500 calories to last me, now Ive been eating healthy things, so it isnt like Ive been eating chips and pop all day, but I figure I need to cut down on portions and try to eat foods that will fill me up but have less calories so I can eat more! It will take me a while to get it right but Im determined to do it!!! :)

I hope everyone else is doing good, I dont know how much walking I will get in the rest of the week their calling for rain all week..I'd like to joiin a gym but the only ones here are Curves - which I dont think I would like - and some new gym that costs almost $50/mth, I can't afford that unfortunatly. Oh well I will just stick to walking hopefully. I hope the winter isn't too harsh on me or I will have to drag myself for a walk lol

Happy Walking!

It's been soooooooooooooooooo(!!!) long since I last posted... um... August, maybe(?). I dunno. Lost some. Gained some back. You know how it goes.

DH, DD and I are leaving for Disneyland in 3 weeks and I'm really hoping to be a few pounds lighter. Lots of protein, healthy carbs, and exercise (an avg of 8mi per week). That's the plan, anyway. ;)

I don't time to catch up with everyone right now, but I'll post again tonight to do so. Hope you're all keeping happy and healthy! Best wishes!

Hi everybody, and welcome back old friends! I walked 2 miles today on the bike trail. I'm up to 11.5 this month. I'm trying to figure how I'm going to walk after work with the time change. My options are to change my schedule, going in a half-hour or more earlier, so that I can leave in time to get in a walk, or to just do outdoor walking on the weekends and indoor walking (Leslie and George) during the week.

Just over two weeks until we leave for Disneyland ( :cb: )... and I *SO* can't wait! This is the first real vacation DH and I have taken together and it's so much more exciting that we decided to wait until DD could come with us! So yup, it's like our honeymoon (only a yr and a half late) and family vacation all in one! :)

So today I stepped on the scale and it read 140... quite happy about that! But to be honest, this is usually the point I give up and then gain back another 5-7lbs. And start the battle all over again. I just can't seem to shed those last 10. They really are the hardest. Oh well.

Sounds like everyone is doing crazy-awesome! Good work, ladies! :bravo: Congrats, as well, on the losses! Keep on truckin', girls!!! :D

Walked another 4mi today... bringing my monthly total (including those that I hadn't logged on here) to 16. Will put another 4 in by the end of the week. I think I'll set my goal for 30 (pretty good for cooler months, I think).

I can't believe there's just over a month until Christmas. Man alive. Time is just zoomin' by! Unfortunately I won't have time enough between now and our departure to Calif. to get any gift shopping done, but I am determined to get all the Christmas cards written out and addressed. Perhaps I'll start on that tonight. How's everyone else fairing on their holiday to-do list?

Glad to hear that you are all keeping well and staying OP! Congrats to ALL of you for your continued dedication! :) Keep up the great work, ladies!

Hi Ladies, mind if I join you? I used to post on this thread waaaaaaaaaaaay back in 03 and early 04. I kinda slacked off on the walking for the past year and boy does it show :sumo:. But I got my butt back to WW last week Tuesday and am currently in week 2. Walking is my main source of exercise so if y'all don't mind I'll be posting a bit in here. :)

Let's see, I don't really have a mileage goal, but I do want to at least walk 5x a week. I average a route of 3.25-- 3.5 on weekdays, then 5.5 on Sunday morning. I have a 6 mo. old puppy that I'm trying to get trained enough on a leash so my son can walk her himself. He's 6 so he doesn't have much patience with a wayward dog sniffing around too much.

Well, just wanted to say hello and hope to chat w/you ladies a little more. Have a good one.

Pixie, the only way I can make myself do it is to do nothing else the minute I get home from work. Well, I usually run to the bathroom first and then I change my clothes, but I don't look at the mail or start dinner until I've done exercise of some kind, even if it's just a 10 minute walk.

Trixie, congratulations on your loss!

Melekalikamaka (mind if we call you Mele?), of course you are welcome! We're glad to have you!

Managed to get another 4mi in today... bringing me up to 20 so far. I'm walking only outside right now (to take DD to school and to pick her up) and hope that in the new year, I'll be motivated enough to walk indoors as well.

I hopped on the scale this morning and it read 138! :jig: FINALLY! I'm out of the 140-range! I've been hovering there for nearly a year now and had almost resigned myself to the fact that this was the weight my body would stay at. But finally a breakthrough!

I'm hoping to drop a 2 more lbs before our departure to Calif. in a couple weeks... we'll see, I guess. ;)

Glad to hear that everyone is getting miles in... every one of them counts!

cathy, don't beat yourself up over your 8mi... it's a busy time of year, be proud of the fact that you are sticking with this! Keep it up girl, you'll get there!

Good morning ladies, thanks for the welcomes. Well, I did get my 3.5 miles yesterday evening, but only 2 miles the day before. I am planning on seeing the new Harry Potter movie tonight with the family so I need to get home a little early and get my walk in early...that means walking with the sun in my eyes and burning on my face, ugh! But still, I will make that sacrifice to see my beloved Harry. No popcorn will touch my lips.

Mel, congratulations on your breakthrough! :cp: So you're heading to Disneyland? Enjoy! Ride Space Mountain for me if ya can. :)

Dinah, I'm with you, more of a book person and so not an exercise person. But we're changing that about ourselves aren't we? :dancer: Congratulations on quitting smoking BTW, you're reaching the one year mark soon.

Let me know about Harry I am afraid it will scare me this one is the darkest they say and I am such a woose!

We visited all the islands we stayed on Ohahu for five nights and then took a two week cruise to the others. I loved the big island of Hawaii the best. Which island are you on? Sure is a beautiful place!!!

I got my three miles in today= 49

3.25 miles for me yesterday, then it was off to Harry Potter. I enjoyed the movie but it was so heavily condensed that there were a lot of things I wished they would've elaborated on. But it was still a good thrilling movie. It was a lot scarier than the others (if you can call the other ones scary!) but if you've read the books you know what to expect.

Luflic, I am on Oahu. I haven't been to the Big Island for quite some time but I am wanting to go and see the volcano soon. My favorite island away from home is Maui. If I had the money, I'd move there in a heartbeat. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay.

I am taking the day off from walking but I did vacuum and wash the car, that counts for exercise right? ;) I do plan on my first Sunday morning walk in a long time. I sent my son and hubby off to a weekend karate camp so I'm free as a bird and will enjoy myself.

Have a good weekend all!

Hi everyone I haven't checked in lately. I'm glad everyone is doing so well! Remember every little bit helps. I don't think I'm gonna meet my November goal unless I majorly kick it into gear. I'm at 23.5 miles for the month and my goal is 50.

We saw Harry Potter friday night with the kids, 6 and 8 years old. My son liked it, my daughter fell asleep. Me, I hated it. I've never said that about a harry potter movie before. They chopped too much in hopes of keeping it at 2.5 hours. I think if I hadn't read the book I might have liked it better.

After a cortisone shot, ice and stretching, it seems to be much better now. I'm hoping to walk in a 5k race on Thanksgiving Day - the Turkey Trot. I won't walk for speed because I don't think my foot is quite there yet, but I do want the experience of walking in a race. So wish me luck! :goodvibes

Dinah good luck in the race I'm sure you'll do well!

I'm up to 27.5 so far. I've already done my 3 miles today but I am going to try to get in one more when the kids get home. Sometimes I need them as my motivation to keep going.

Thank you so much for your good wishes. I am getting very excited and nervous, too! I've never ever done anything like this before. Tonight I walked 3 miles just to make sure I could do it, and I was thinking that this will be a HUGE milestone for me. Almost a year ago, I quit smoking, something I thought I could and would never do. And here I am about to be in a race! Thank you, luflic and ambabs!

I''m up to 33.5 miles now for the month...I goofed on my last entry and added an extra mile.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving everyone...see you after the Trot! :turkey:

Hi ladies, looks like everyone is doing well. I got my 3.5 miles in yesterday but had to wear my knee brace. i don't know what's going on with this knee but I did fall on it back in Sept. but I went on vacation a week afterward without any problems walking on it. Maybe delayed reaction? If it continues I may have to find a doc to look at it.

I was down 2.6 lbs at my WI today which I am really happy about! Now to just watch those portions on Thanksgiving...

Dinahgirl, good luck and have fun on your T-day turkey trot! You can do it!

ambabs, I liked the HP movie but agree with you that they cut too much of the story out of it. I hope with the new director for Order of the Phoenix he "gets it right". Of course if they stayed too true to the book they could make an 8 hr movie

Have a great Thanksgiving everyone :happ3:

I had so much fun with the Turkey Trot. I walked 3.1 miles (5k). Out of 2,200 walkers, I probably came in 2,191, but that's okay, because I did it!!!!! It was lots of fun and I encourage you to do it if you have such an event nearby. They had a 1 mile race first, and then 5k, 10k, and 15k. It was runners and walkers, serious athletes and moms with strollers. A real family atmosphere and every level welcome. I received a t-shirt and a medal! I feel really proud today. And I'm at 36.6 miles for November and by Monday, I will have earned my six stars in the Presidential Challenge!

Hey ladies, only on for a brief moment... got the four intended miles in on Thursday and two today. Total: 28. Will get another four in before we leave for our trip which means I'll have passed my monthly goal by two miles.

Since I won't be back until mid-December, I'll set my goal now... 50mi (lots Disney-walking, of course!). :)

Hope you're all keeping well! Best wishes and take care!

Did my first mile since Nov 5! I went back to the original WATP with my 3 pound weights. Hoping to do more later today, but if I don't; that's OK. I have a new plan for reaching my goals and I'm not going to stress out (especially at this time of year!).

Have a great Sunday!

HI everybody, hope your Thanksgiving weekend has been good. I walked 3+ miles this morning, which means I'm at 40 miles for the month. And I finished the Presidential Challenge thing...got my six stars. Yippee!

macdeez -- have a great time at DisneyLand! I'm sure you'll meet your goal with all that walking.

Michele, just jump right back on the wagon...one day at a time!

Have a great day!

Hey Everyone,

I have not posted in a LONG time - probably since September I would say. Anyways lately I have been going to the gym latley with a friend from work, and we have both been doing 40 minutes on the treadmill and also doing abdomen exercises. We have been going for about 2 months now, and I feel good. I have lost about 12 pounds.

Anyways something I really need to focus on is DEFINATLEY portion control at meals, and snacks... uhh. I am a junk-food addict. I have been doing a little better lately though. Just trying to snack healthy.

Well.. what I really came here to ask is about this Walking away the pounds stuff. I'm not sure what it is. Is it like DVD program?? Do you do it inside? I am confused. I also heard something about a couch to 5k program?? Does anyone know anything about this? I would really appreciate any help!!

Thanks guys!! Hope you are all doing well! :D :carrot:

Yesterday, after the WATP 1 mile, I did 40 minutes on the treadmill (2.25 miles). and today was another 40 minutes (2.3 miles).

Walk Away the Pounds is a set of DVD's/videos by Leslie Sansone. They range from 1 mile to a new 5 mile that's about to come out. She also has several toning and interval training ones as well. I LOVE them! You do them in a space as small as your livingroom. They are low/no impact, so you don't hurt your joints, either. Feel free to message me if you have questions.

Couch to 5k is a program designed to get you from being a couch potato to running 5k (3.1 miles). It's on a site called Cool Runnings, I think, but you can google it. It looks like a great plan if you are interested in running.

Hi ladies, it's been awhile since I posted here. I had my WW weigh-in today and was down -4.8 lbs :carrot: and that was after Thanksgiving! I had a 3.5 mile walk the morning of, then really watched my portion control and it showed on the scale. :D

Well, my walking partner (my sis) is on vacation right now so it's just me and the pup. We did 3.5 miles today. I think I will set my goal for December at 40 miles.

Happy walking everyone! :dancer:
