Anyone doing anything special for Halloween? The weather is going to half-way cooporate this year (mid 60's with some showers) Steve & I are dressing up this year with Allison...I'm considering two different outfits, I'll let you know which one I decide. I'm planning our Halloween meal for Sunday evening when everyone will be home. I washed Halloween outfits all day today! I have a collection dating several years & sizes LOL! Did I tell ya all Halloween is my favorite holiday???? LOL!

10-30-2005, 07:36 AM
Gayle-We are not doing anything for halloween. We never get any kids at our house, either. We live too far back to get any.

This really sucks. We are the only block in the front half of Briarcliff community with no power. I really need to do some wash. I took jeans over to my mom's yesterday, but I have 5 other load that need washing. I may have to go back today to do more. We are hoping for electricity today. Keep your fingers crossed for us.

Doni-I hope you had a wonderful birthday.

Sherry-I have been looking at the inside of my house and am really disgusted. I wish I knew how to clean really good. My shower is dreadful. The dust on my mini blinds in my bedroom is thick. My floors are bad right now because of no power, but those I can keep pretty clean. The only problem is the carpet in the living room. My dog pees on it when nobody is home and she needs to go. We are going to get it cleaned then start keeping her in Mike's office during the day. I wish I could pull it all up, but it's just not in the cards right now. Maybe next year.

Hello everyone....I am here just been lost for awhile but found my way back.

I have been so busy with trying to run the daycare and recoup from my torn ligaments in my elbow but kinda hard when you can't close or get the help you need. Oh well that's life.

I just got finished catching up on everyone's post and we have been busy ladies and some have come back to the fold of this group and glad to see it. I have to admit i have lurked more than post.

We had another death in the family and this is causing a family feud over nothing. I had a uncle who i haven't or anyone else in the family had never seen, heard or new he was still alive died while watching tv. He liked being by himself and lived out in the woods in N.Y. about 2mos ago this uncle called me and we chatted and that is the first time in over 30yrs i had ever heard from him. I called my Dad and he said he hadn't heard from him just as long and who knew what he wanted. Dad and his family except his one brother had been very close in all these years. They live in N.Y. & us in ky and now parents, sister in Florida.
Make along story short i have this aunt who loves to feel important and if she thinks money is involved then she is your best bud. Well she is nice but never hear from her and she never visits but she is starting trouble b/c my Dad hadn't called her to say he was sorry about his brother. Well it works both ways and besides Dad has his hands full taking care of my Mom and that is the only one he is concerned with in his life. We as his daughters understand and accept that except one.
Anyway it is always something going on and i wish it was good stuff for once. I am so drained and stressed from everyone elses drama.

My oldest sister and aunt are the best of friends and they talk all the time and My sister has not talked to me in over 3yrs. My hubby and i had always been the ones who took care of her thru all her problems and cancers and she just turned her back on us or blames us for things wrong in her life. Go figure b/c that doesn't make sense when you just want them to be healthy and happy.

Well enough my arm is getting tired

Shelley i am so glad that you all made it thru the hurricane -thought of you often thru all the storms.

Later my friends

Vickster, nice to see you. Keep your head up...I have two sisters and a brother who I have no contact with. Remember, they are adults and making their own choices, we have no control. HUG!

Shelley, my house looks like the pits too. I'm lucky if I can get 1 thing done on my list each day! Hopefully you will have power soon! Thinking of you!

Doni, I may need to check out a belly dancing dvd or two...

Gotta go!

Have a GREAT weekend everyone!~

10-31-2005, 06:41 AM
I'VE GOT POWER!!! It came back on around 7 last night. What a relief!!

Vicki-So good to hear from you. I am so sorry about your family feuds. Glad you are on the mend.

Welcome, Eddie-This is a great bunch of ladies. Some of us have been here well over 3 or 4 years. Feel free to join us anytime. We also have a bio thread, if you want to tell us about yourself.

Gayle-I'm sure your house doesn't compare with my mess!! Now that the electricity is back on, I need to at least clean the floors.

Back to work today. Ugh!! Everything is going to need to be plugged back in before anything can be done.

Everyone have a great Halloween!

10-31-2005, 07:41 AM
Hi all! Thanks for the warm welcomes! Siamese, I am doing the Medifast 5 and 1 plan. I sorta started Saturday but had to restart Sunday after a surprise visit from my sister who I hadn't seen in a year. So I took her to dinner and was very naughty. Needless to say, I restarted on Sunday and so far, so good! Gdeann and Shelly, thanks for the welcome. What is the "bio thread" you mentioned? I would like to give more info about myself. I am looking to have some friends in here and you all sound like a great bunch of friends :) I'll be back later today. Talk to ya then. p.s. Shelley, I am so glad you have power! Wilma didn't affect us hardly at all. Washed out our road a bit but we never even lost power. Last year however, we were out for a week between Frances and Jeanne combined. Had some screen room damage with Jeanne. Did you have any damage from Wilma? I hope not :) One more month of hurricane season and we're home free. Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

10-31-2005, 08:25 AM
Welcome Eddie! This is a great bunch of gals, and offer support on everything not just your weight.
Shelley-So glad you finally got your power back on - what a relief. I hope the hurricanes are finishes tormenting you for a while.

Doni - Hope all is well with you. Belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY WISHES ( Sherry and Debbie - How is the Low Carb going. I am having trouble getting and staying on any program. I need a kick in the butt!
I start and then the next day I blow it.
I went back to work over the weekend. My hand was swollen this morning, that scared me.
I am off until Friday so I will rest my hand as much as possible.

10-31-2005, 07:54 PM

I hope everyone has some spooky trick or treaters at your house!!!

WELCOME EDDIE!! :welcome2: It's so nice to have you!!!! You will love all the ladies here!! Most of us have been here for 4-5 years! Come on in..sit down & enjoy us!! Again...Welcome girl!!

I'm so glad you have power back on!!! Did you get all that laundry done? About the house cleaning, When I dust weekly I just do the basic dusting but then every other week I dust all my mini blinds. Then once a year, I buy new ones! Since we moved into this house last year, our blinds in 2 windows are custom made so we won't be buying new ones on those two....TOO EXPENSIVE! I'll take them this spring and wash them outside. On the bathroom: Run your tub FULL of water, pour bleach in and then let it sit over night. For now on, use Windex to clean shower, tub and shower walls with. Good luck!! (Damn, did I sound like Martha Stewart???? )

Be right back...spooks at the door........

Wayne LOVED your joke!!!! It took me a few seconds to get it but he got it right off!! LOL I bet you're about to take little Allison trick or treating!! Tell her I said hello & I hope she gets lots of candy!! Take pictures!!! I would love to compare them to the earlier know, how she's grown!

Be right back...another spook at door..........

I'm so glad you posted!! The Sister that you haven't talked to...Is she the same one that has the Daugter that was hit by the drunk driver? How is she doing? Take care of that elbow and please post again soon!! I've missed you!!! :grouphug:

Where are you??? When you don't post daily I worry!! Did you get Jay moved out? How's your boobs & tummy???? Let us know you're ok!!!!

I loved your Halloween cliparts!!! Take care of your wrist! Try not to over-do it! Yep...Still on low carb. I lost the 2 lbs today that I had gained last week from going out of town. So I'm still at 22 loss. Hang in there and don't give up!!!

It's so good to see you posting a lot again!!!!

Sorry ya'll...I've got to get off here!! There are so many trick-treaters!!Wayne wants me to help him and I love seeing all the costumes!!!

More tomorrow....Love to all.........

11-01-2005, 06:57 AM
We have never had any trick or treaters. In fact, last night, I wiped out at 7PM. No running, just a load of laundry, then laid down in bed, ate my dinner in my bed, and went to sleep.

Sherry-Keep the cleaning tips coming. I want to rip out my blinds, but don't know how to, and I don't want Mike to know. I have curtains over them (they are in my bedroom.) I have tried to rip them out, but haven't been successful. I'll try the bleach trick in the girls' tub, but can't in mine. It is a tile shower/tub and very large. I have never been able to fill it up to the rim with water because it would take quite awhile to do, plus the water leaks out. I have thought about pouring bleach in there though. Do you think it would hurt the beige tile?

Janice-About the diet. Maybe your body needs some carbs. Have you tried South Beach or WW Core? You may have to put some healthy carbs into your body to keep it from craving them.

Eddie-Is Medfast a liquid diet? I seem to have heard about it too. Exactly where in Fl are you?

Gayle-I'm so dumb. I don't get the joke. Apparently though you had better not explain!!:)

Sherry-WTG on the WI. You are doing wonderful.

Debbie-Good going on yesterday's WI!!

Doni-Did Cat go out and trick or treat?

Ramona-Where are you??? Please post and let us know how you are.

Dee-Your big day is coming soon. You must be very busy preparing.

Love to everyone else!!

11-01-2005, 08:13 AM
Hi all...Shelley, yes Medifast is kind of a liquid's 5 supplements (shakes, oatmeal, soup, bars, chili) and 1 lean meat and veggie meal daily. I am just outside Orlando in the Clermont area. My actual town is so small, NOBODY has ever heard of it. Groveland to be exact! Well everyone...Have a great day!

11-01-2005, 08:14 AM
Thanks for the warn welcome Sherry! Glad to be here :)

11-01-2005, 11:01 AM
Shelley, my helpful household hint is to do something productive in one room of the house everyday. Such as dusting the livingroom or straightening up the diningroom. It seems like I can "tackle" things better if I'm not feeling so overwhelmed with all of the filth. Today is my kitchen day, I will do the usual, plus clean & shine my counter tops after I get home from work. I remember the day when I could clean my entire house in one day! I would start in the morning and go until later afternoon/early evening, now I can't ever seem to get it done in one shot!
Imagine a witch riding (holding her) broom.... now do you get it????

Eddie, again a warm welcome to you! Feel free to post as often as you would like to!!! We all behave most of the time....I will warn you...we have a few wild ladies on here too!! LOL!

Sherry, I wish I had your get-up-and-go to get my house clean! I think my get-up-and-go ~~ got-up-and-left!!!!

We went trick or treating last night. Allison dressed as a medevil princess, Steve as a monk and I wore my pajamas with a wild funky flowered robe over the top that I found at a thrift store. I put cream on my face, rollers in most of my hair and then froze the rest of my hair to stand on end. I then had a light socket with electrical cord that I placed on my finger to give the impression I was getting ready for bed and stuck my finger in a light socket. I know, I know....EVERYONE thinks I'm crazy! Mostly the inlaws..... LOL!
We went to our community college, they offer a Halloween tour through the dorms and the college kids hand out candy from their room. each child going through the tour brings a canned food item which then the college donates to the needy. We then went on to the Aunts/Uncles and Grandparents. Allison told me she knows Halloween isn't the healthiest with all the candy, but it sure is fun!

Wishing everyone a great OP day today!!! I am back on track...nibbled on a few pieces of Halloween candy last night, plus made cookies for treat baskets yesterday afternoon and munched on a few of those too....

11-01-2005, 12:23 PM
I am here but not for long.......I haven't even had time to read the posts. Sorry.
I have been super busy with Jay moving and our anniversary party. I can't believe how much time that consumes. I have spent over 40 hours working on the 230 picture slide presentation. Thanks It looks great but boy talk about stress!

Gayle you are a thoughtful, amazing friend. We recieved your card, that was so sweet of you to take the time to do that for us. You are very special. Thank you.

Off I go you all.

11-01-2005, 02:00 PM
Sherry...Yes it's the same one with the daughter. The daughter is doing as well as can be,her mother,my sister doesen't see or help her much which is sad in itself. now to team up with the damn aunt who knows nothing of our family...They make a pair.....

The elbow is feeling pretty good this morning and hope it starts to stay that way. I am so sick and tired of being sick and tired.

Oh well later girls.

11-01-2005, 03:07 PM
Hi's me again! I have a stupid question so here goes...

What is a "sticky"? I see these at the beginning of the thread listings in the forums. What do they do? Thanks!

11-01-2005, 06:04 PM
I'm not a "sticky" expert Eddie, but I think it means it is a thread that will stay and never be deleted.
BTW: Is your name Eddie or do you not want to share because of security reasons.

BTW: My name is Gayle, age 42, two daughters age 20 & 6...wonderful husband of almost 10 years!

11-01-2005, 08:08 PM
Hi Gayle! My name is Georgie. Eddie is my 8 year old son's name. I am 37 years old and have been married 20 years to my high school sweetheart. I am on this website hoping to make some friends in my journey to lose 70 lbs. Hopefully, we can "chat" sometime! Talk to ya later :)

11-01-2005, 08:24 PM
Hi ladies...

I am new to the site but have been finding it wonderful and helpful. I have been wondering all over trying to find a fit and thought I'd post here for a bit. Hope you dont mind one more. A little about me, I"m almost 34, i have 2 children 10 and 5 and i have been on the loser track for about 11 months now. I kind of faltered there for awhile with vacations and laziness, but I was lucky not to have gained anything back.

I am back with a new found sense of purpose. Do not ask me where I found it, I have no clue! lol I am finding it easier this time to say no to those little extras and stick to the plan....

I hope to post often as it keeps me busy and i find after a few minutes the urge for that oreo passes...

11-01-2005, 08:43 PM
WELCOME CONNIE!!!!! :welcome2: It's so nice to have you!!!!! The more, the merrier!!! What plan are you following? Wow...70 lbs. is GREAT!! :cp: Please feel free to post often! You'll love this crazy group of gals!!

Yep...Gayle is right. A "sticky" means that it will stay in place and not be deleted or fall way down. Not a dumb question at all!! By the way, this forum does have a chat room. It would be nice to get us all together and chat one night!! We used to do it!!

Ok..Who's in for a CHAT NIGHT????? What night? What time????

Your outfit sounded sooooo cool!! I bet you & Steve were the hit on your street!! Did you do pictures?

Try to get some rest!!! I'm glad you posted for a little!! I've missed you! Also, so glad your movie with the pictures is turning out good!!

I'll send you "tips" as I can think of them!! Share any of yours too!!

HUGS to all.........Got to eat!!! I'm starving!!!!

11-01-2005, 09:16 PM
Sherry--Thanks for your warm welcome. I think a night chat would be great!

As for my plan, I never did anything traditional. I watched my "white" carb intake, I watch my calorie intake and most of all I exercise like a pro. I am there every day but one! I have become a total gym rat. The women there help me feel connected since I am a stay at home mom and my little one loves that he gets to play with all the other kids. I highly recommend a supportive gym environment.

I have to say, I did start slowly. I decided in January to finally do something. I just had one good piece of advice...dont try to change every single thing overnight. I think that is the biggest key to my success. I didnt all of a sudden cut my calories AND start exercising 30 mins a day. I took it real slow..changing my eating habits slowly and then about a month and a half in starting to exercise. I eat a well balanced diet and yes, i admit it...i cheat!! The big difference is when i cheat, i dont fall off the wagon completely....i just dangle a bit. Ok I have been long winded

11-02-2005, 01:02 AM
Allison shared a joke tonight:

What is a Witches favorite subject in school??

WELCOME CONNIE! I like how you worded your dieting by saying you don't fall off the wagon, but just dangle a bit....I tend to do the same thing. You have an amazing weight loss for the year! WAY TO GO! Hope to get to know you better!

Georgie, thanks for sharing your name. I like reading the ID names but I get a "feeling" about the person when I have a more personal name to call them. We have one little chickie here who I met with an alias, it is still difficult for me to remember to call her by her real name.

Sher, I WOULD LOVE, LOVE, LOVE TO CHAT! I'm open Thursday eve if anyone else is! BTW: I forgot to take Halloween hoo....

Dee, you are very welcome! I just wanted to let the two of you know I will be thinking of you on your special day! How is your dad's treatments going???

Vickster, please take care! How are you taking care of the little ones with your injuries?

Well better get to bed, my age is starting to catch up with me!!

11-02-2005, 07:00 AM
Wecome, Connie! I'm in for a chat if I can stay awake. You sound like you have the healthiest way of living. Exercise makes all the difference in the world. I run 30 miles per week. Feel free to join us on the exercise thread.

I'm ashamed to say that I won't be posting on the weight loss thread. As I have said before, I just can't face the gain. I am up to 126 this morning. I haven't run for 2 days. I haven't been feeling too great. I have really been craving sugar, but haven't given in. I wonder if the reason I'm craving it is the Viactive that I have been taking. It has sugar in it. That's the only sugar I have, except for my Sport Beans when I run, but I've had those before. Unless it has to do with all my hot flashes.

Gayle-Thanks for the tip. I was actually keeping the bathroom and kitchen clean the flylady way, but stopped. I did get my floors mopped Monday afternoon. I've been doing a load of laundry when I get home to catch up on that. Your Halloween outfit sounded hilarious. I wish you had taken a picture.

Georgie-I haven't heard of Groveland. I have a friend that lives in Apopka. Is that near you?

Dee-Thanks for letting us know what's going on. I know that making a video slide show is very hard. My friend makes one every year for the 5th grade graduation. It takes her a couple of full days to do it.

Sherry-This week has been like school started all over again, what with being out for a week. Things are really tough there right now for everyone.

Has anyone heard from Ramona? I am worried about her.

Gotta go to work--see ya!

11-02-2005, 01:24 PM
Man, I stay away for awhile and all sorts of exciting things happen!

Welcome back Vicky!!! I've missed you!

Now if we could just get Jennelle, Titan Dee and Ramona, we'd have a GROUP!!!

Welcome to the newcomers--Georgie and Connie--hope that the two of you stick around for a long long time! This is a great group of ladies.

Gayle, glad you had fun trick-or-treating. I think it's great that you and Steve dressed up with Allison.

Shelley, glad that Wilma's gone. Don't worry too much about the 1 pound (I know that's impossible, but TRY). Also, you'll get back on track with the running. It's not like you've been slacking for no good reason!

Dee, sounds like you're up to your eyeballs now!!!

Sherry, how was the game? Busy, I'm sure!

Gotta run (I'm at work)

11-02-2005, 07:26 PM
Shelley, don't worry about posting on the weight loss thread. Have I told you as of late how proud I am of you??? You are doing an amazing job of maintence...I think maintaining is actually harder then losing the weight.

Nice to see you Cheryl!

Gotta go do my moms meds for the week, I'll check in later!

11-02-2005, 07:47 PM
How is the weather for everyone? It's been lower 70's the past few days and is predicted to get into the 80's tomorrow! it is unseasonably warm here...usually by this time it is no surprise to have a snowfall. Dee, do you guys have snow???

11-02-2005, 09:35 PM
Hi Shelley! Yes, I am near Apopka. It is about 30 minutes west and a bit north of Groveland :) Hi Gdean! The weather here in Florida is...well like Florida! Warm and sunny. Gets a bit cooler at night and that's real nice for opening windows and sleeping. Hope all is well with everyone! Talk to ya later.

11-03-2005, 01:12 AM
I had my husband convinced into moving to Florida until you guys started in with all that hurricane business!!! LOL!!!!

11-03-2005, 06:39 AM
Gayle-As much as I'd love to have you here in the Sunshine State, I wouldn't move here either. But then again, is there a safe state out there? You have tornados, we have hurricanes, and the west has earthquakes. I'll take a hurricane any day before an earthquake! I'm not sure about snowstorms. I wouldn't mind trying one. Yesterday was nice, but the day before it rained quite a bit and flooded our drive again. No walks for the dog in the last 2 days. I had to use my water boots to go through the water, then change into my Brooks for running and leave the boots at the side of the road until I finished my run. I'll probably have to do that again today, unless the water goes down by the time I get home. BTW, how is the booze business these days? Are you still enjoying it?

Georgie-I'm sorry to say we never open our windows. We go straight from air to heat. We don't have very many windows in our house and there is no cross ventilation. Also, I hate the humidity when they are open.

Work is still rough. The principal is getting on everyone's case about everything. The building super is ready to quit. I feel so sorry for her. She is always being criticized for her work, and she is absolutely the best one we have ever had. The school is kept emaculate. The principal and AP demand perfection.

Guess I'd better go. Have a great day, everyone!

11-03-2005, 08:17 AM
Thank you to all the warm welcomes. I think I realized something about myself yesterday. I went on some interviews for a p/t job after being a stay at home mom for years. I went for 2 interviews--one in retail and one as a security officer with lots of activity. Can you believe I want the active one more? I found myself asking the interviewer if this was an active position because i didnt want to be stuck behind a desk! A year ago, I never would have even thought to apply for that job. I actually shocked myself! Thats hard to do...shock yourself with yourself! lol

Well cross your fingers that they offer me the security position. They offered me the retail position on the spot, but i am just not sure its for me.

Time to get the kids up for school...check back later

Connie, good luck and I hope you get the job you want!!! I just went back to work in August when my youngest started 1st grade, I enjoy the people (working retail) although the job is highly demanding physically and the stress level seems to stay high. It is the largest liquor store in our city and we do a large volume of business which means a continuous flow of customers plus shipments coming in 3 days a week on liquor and daily on beer. I'm starting to build muscle in my arms from the lifting of cases, most of the time, over my head!!

Shelley, sent out the coupons today, expect them soon....sorry not earlier!!! I like the job other then the owner and managers demand perfection and tend to be "nit-picky" over certain things. I believe rules should be rules, I noticed with them, the rules change upon the situation...this can cause a feeling of being overwhelmed most of the time. I really enjoy working retail, but I get nervous before I go in just because I never know what to expect. If I ask how I'm doing, I hear SUPER, only to be reprimanded a few hours later. LOL! One of the co-workers the other day finally just came flat out and asked the owner "Are you happy with me because it doesn't seem like it"... it's a job and it's making my car payment...

Doni, Brian is actually teaching Cat well....she is seeing how you are being treated and she is learning she should never have to live that way once she marries. I'm glad you two had some fun time together and did the carving pumkin thing. We still do our annual Halloween meal here...Allison is the only one who openly expresses her excitement but yet I know if I were to stop, everyone would complain. Something so simple can make special memories for children. I hope you find you DVD's!!!!!!!!!!

We get the tornadoes and snowstorms here. Tornado season is early spring through early summer and we can expect snow anytime after October and into April. Most of the time it falls November through the month of March. One year we had snow on the ground from Thanksgiving clear through mid March!!! I like a pretty snowfall where it snows and melts by the end of the day. Here in Kansas we usually end up with bitter chill, high wind, ice and blizzard conditions. YUCK!

I hope all is well with everyone!!! When are we chatting???????????????

No great weather stories here except for snow storms and on those days you stay home. We always know when they are going to happen. Shelley you can come over and enjoy one with me. We burn the fire place and sit around and read books.

I am still very busy but things are getting done. After this anniversary things will settle down. We will be away at a resort from Nov 10- 13. I misss you girls.

Welcome to the new girls. I am looking forward to getting to know you.
