100 lb. Club - Weekly Journal Buddy Thread (24-30 October)

Good to see you're back, SAPF!

I find FitDay far too frustrating and time-consuming to use. It has a nasty clunky interface, and almost everything I eat is nowhere to be found in its database. I know there are a lot of people here who love it, but I'm not one of them. I think some of it, for me, is that measurement in cups seems to be the norm there, and I'm much more likely to use actual weight. Horses for courses, I suppose.

Sun 23/10:

Breakfast: 1 cup Optimum Slim cereal, cup 0% milk; 500 ml coffee with 2 tblsp. half & half.
Snack: 4 Safeway ginger snaps; ,250 ml green tea.
Lunch: 3 sushi maki rolls, salad (red cabbage, carrot, cucumber, tomato); 1 l water.
Snack: 3 pancakes (2 servings)**; 500 ml water.
Dinner: 5 oz chicken breast (grilled), cup black beans, 11 Triscuits Thin Crisps; 500 ml water.
Snack: Small fruit ice lolly, 4 Safeway ginger snaps; 500 ml water.
Extra Drinks: 500 ml water.

Total kcals: 1573 (plus free veggies)

Exercise: Nothing structured--1 hours yard work.

**Nature's Path Organic Buttermilk Pancake Mix
Per serving: 130 kcals
0.5 g fat
8 g protein
3 g fibre

Yay! Good for you Jillybean! :carrot: Now, hightail it over to the new weekly thread, you silly goose, this one is finished! :D

Bah, see what happens when I'm not the one who starts the new thread--I completely forget about it! :dizzy: Anyway, here's what I had posted (accidentally) on last week's thread for today:

Minor moment of strength for today--I skipped work (we'll call it a mental health day ;)), and for lunch, I was so ready to just have a bowl of cereal (nothing healthy, of course--would have been frosted cheerios or lucky charms or something). Instead, I stood my ground and made a salad. Yay! For once, the laziness did not win out :p

So here's today for me (dinner's already planned):
plain cheerios w/skim milk, splenda, and a bit of honey
Special K bar
salad (lettuce, fat-free shredded cheddar cheese, ground turkey cooked w/taco seasoning, salsa, and a little fat-free sour cream)
2 turkey burgers w/cheese on whole wheat buns

Total: 1370 calories, though I'm sure I'll find something to make as a side to go with the burgers, so it will be a bit higher.

10-24-2005, 08:49 PM
Ack! I can't find my car registration. Not that this has anything to do with what I ate today, though, which is...

Breakfast burrito (LF, low-carb tortilla shell, 1/2 cup Egg Beaters, onion and green peppers stir fried in 1 tsp olive oil, dollop of salsa, 1 LF Pepper Jack cheese slice)

5 oz barbecue chicken breast with Simply Grillin' veggies (leftovers)
Hershey chocolate bar (craaaaaving!)

Yoplait Whips, key lime pie (yum!)

Healthy Choice grilled chicken baja

Exercise: 1/2 hour on exercise bike (I'm getting better!)
What I watched on Tivo: A Biggest Loser episode from a few weeks ago

Calories: About 1432-ish according to FitDay (230 of which were chocolate!)

10-25-2005, 01:01 AM
Don't be too hard on yourself for posting in the other thread, jillybean, I posted there myself before it dawned on me to start another thread. I went back and edited my post, :s: which must've been about the same time you were posting. :sorry:

That's a real achievement in making the salad. :high: I wish I were so disciplined: I couldn't be bothered to do some veggies this evening, so guess what? I didn't. :(

Great job on the bike, rabidstoat! :bike: Keep it up! Good luck with finding your car registration.

Mon 24/10:

Breakfast: 1 cup Optimum Slim cereal, cup 0% milk; 500 ml coffee with 2 tblsp. half & half.
Snack: Cherry Fruit to Go bar. :barf: (And I still have another two left!)
Lunch: 3 sushi maki rolls, salad (red cabbage, carrot, cucumber, radish, tomato); 1 l water.
Snack: 4 oz apple; 500 ml water.
Dinner: 5 oz chicken breast (grilled), packet microwave rice; 1 l water.
Snack: Cocoa made with 2 tsp. cocoa, 1 cup 0% milk, 2 tblsp. half & half.

Total kcals: 1294 (plus free veggies) Hmm... is that all? :chin:

Exercise: 30 minute bike ride.

10-25-2005, 08:47 PM
Hi Folks,
I just love the new :carrot: Have had several pretty to very good days. Making progress on the LMT. Thanks for starting the new thread dishyfishy.

10-25-2005, 09:45 PM
I had to get a new copy of my car registration, but I'm all squared away. Now for today...

McDonald's fruit and yogurt parfait (hectic morning!)

Subway 6" turkey and cheese, with light mayo and veggies
Baked lays BBQ chips

100 calorie Kudos bar

Wendy's small chili
3/4 cups low fat ice cream

No exercise. Hectic day. Calories, about 1200-ish.

10-26-2005, 12:41 AM
I've been naughty too, SAPF. :(

I like the :carrot: too, Denise, but I think the Hallowe'en :) and  are a bit scary looking! I'm cheering you on all the way in your LMT. :cheer:

Glad you got your reg. sorted, rabidstoat. Living large at the takeaway places today, huh? :p Looks as though you made some good choices there. :high:

Hubby's away for a few days and I got my knickers in a knot over a foot-in-the-door salesman. :stress: I have no idea what possessed me to answer the door in the first place. I self-medicated my stress with alcohol which totally buggered up my day. :( I'm feeling pretty miserable right now.

I'm not even going to detail my eats. Suffice to say, they were pretty okay until this evening when I've munched non-stop on roast ham and LC party cubes with Triscuit Thin Crisps, washed down with an OBSCENE amount of wine and beer. Bleah! I did drink 3 litres of water today though, and I managed a fifteen minute bike ride--not enough exercise, and considering it was to the liquor store, no exercise would have been a lot better for me.

10-26-2005, 02:20 AM

1 small cup coffee
1 large mug coffee/lite soy milk mix which i nursed throughout the day
2 pieces LF string cheese
1 yellow apple

1 packet kashi apple oatmeal

1 6 inch turkey provolone sub, spinach, tmato, mayo & onion
1 bag baked lays sour cream & onion
1 can campbells healthy requests chicken noodle soup
12 oz water

1 cup green tea, 1 cup peach tea

1 baked chicken breast
1 cup stuffing w/craisins
1 serving apple crisp
1 bottle water

2 cups peppermint tea

10-26-2005, 10:42 AM
Had a really rough day yesterday (involving a little yelling and a lot of crying with Jeff), but I did NOT stray from my normal eating plan (except my stir-fry didn't turn out too well, so I had a Special K bar after dinner since I didn't eat it all). NO emotional eating :D

Still quite emotional because of yesterday, I'm sticking to my plan for today as well. Here's today's plan:

Special K bar
instant oatmeal
salad (lettuce, ground turkey cooked in taco seasoning, fat-free shredded cheddar, salsa, and fat-free sour cream)
Smartfood popcorn
2 low-fat hotdogs on 2 wheat hot dog buns w/some sort of pasta side dish
Total: Should be around 1300 calories (not sure about the aforementioned pasta side dish with dinner yet, but the rest only comes to under 1100). I may add an apple to the mix before dinner if I'm hungry :smug:

EDITED TO ADD: 20 minutes on the elliptical at the gym this morning (cut it off early because I had to get to work early--lots to do!).

10-26-2005, 10:47 AM
I got out of the habit of logging my food for a while. Not that I was eating off-plan, really. Just didn't bother. I've actually lost five pounds the last few weeks, so I must be doing something right. But I miss the accountability of the buddy thread, so here I am again.

walnuts (pre-commute)
cottage cheese

roast turkey slices
green beans

Afternoon snack to keep the Beast at bay:
chocolate skim milk

cincinnatti chili over spaghetti w/sour cream

Snacks throughout the day:
pickled herring

diet soda
coffee w/creamer

about 1700

not much. some stairs at work, but it was too wet to walk outside.

10-26-2005, 03:55 PM
Okay, I admit it--I caved to the emotional stress. I had a fun-size Butterfinger crisp bar and a Reese's peanut butter cup :o I skipped the yogurt, so my calories for the day should still only be about 1400. Not bad for an emotional splurge ;)

10-26-2005, 11:22 PM
Ugh. Starting this vacation, unprepared, with cleaning up after cat damage, then working half a day, then driving 8 hours, was a bad idea. I'm super-stressed. :(

But anyway. I managed to eat some during the day, and my Mommy saved me leftovers for dinner.

Fruit and yogurt parfait from McDonald's (my fall-back 'in a rush and on the road' breakfast)

Leftover shrimp creole over brown rice

3/4 ounces of cheddar cheese

Baked fish, breaded in bread crumbs and herbs and stuff
1 cup rice a roni of some sort
Some green beans

No exericse. Way too busy.

Calories: About 1200. Still low, but I'm so frazzled.

10-27-2005, 01:14 AM
Good to have you back, Synger! Congrats on the loss!

I stayed within my kcal allowance (only just), but had no dairy, fruit, veggies, or whole grains, so it wasn't what you might call good for me. I ate nothing all day and then made a chicken & coconut curry for dinner. Oh, and I finished off the wine left from yesterday. Total kcals: 1589 with 3 litres water and no exercise.

10-27-2005, 08:49 AM
Today's menu:

Carnation instant breakfast w/skim milk
instant oatmeal
sandwich (natural peanut butter and no-sugar-added strawberry jelly on a whole-wheat potato roll)
Smartfood popcorn
Subway 12" sweet onion chicken teriyaki sub on honey oat bread (AFTER the TOPS meeting, of course ;) )
Total for the day: 2078 calories (and that's if I get 2 cookies with my Subway sub, which I'm not sure if I will or not  )

10-27-2005, 02:08 PM

working lunch & then Girls Nite Out

1 cup coffee w/soymilk (went back to the non-lite, more satisfying)
1 Reese's peanut butter pumpkin

1 low carb tortilla (multigrain)
2-3T hummus
1 serving fresh tomato
1 serving fresh avocado
1 serving butter lettuce
1 serving pretzels
2 cups green tea

1 cup green tea

1/2 liter water

Here is where the food porn begins:
1 serving loaded baked potato soup
1 small square pumpkin bread
1 1/2 dinner roll w/smear butter
1 serving coleslaw
1-2 servings cottage cheese
10oz ribeye steak
1 baked potato w/butter & sour cream
1 serving creamed peas
2-3 bites cookie dessert w/hot fudge & whipped cream
seltzer w/lime to drink

The idea was, to order the meal, divide it all in half as soon as it got to the table, and eat ONLY half. The service was so SLOW that by the time the food got there, I was STARVING & ate it all. :( I'm very upset about the service. The girl was new. So don't you think you should sit a table with 8 people somewhere else? Or have someone help her? It took half an hour to get drinks! An HOUR to get the food. We asked the man walking around asking how everything was a) where our waitress was & b) where our drinks were. It was almost as if she'd forgotten about us. He went & got our drinks & THEN TOLD US THEY'D BEEN SITTING IN THE BACK FOR AWHILE. They served the salads & soup 5 minutes before our meals. The manager helped her serve the food, but by then the damage had been done. The food was excellent, but I will never go back there. The manager apologized as we were leaving & said she hoped we'd be back. I was thinking, "Yeah, right. That'll happen." but I didn't say anything. Several times we were ready to walk out w/o paying. I understand she had other tables, but wtf? They were not that busy, it was 7pm. People eat early around here. Grrrrrrrr. Jillybean I know you are a waitres, but I know you wouldn't have let me sit there 30 min w/nothing to drink. :(

Today should be better. :)

10-27-2005, 10:16 PM
I was at MGM studios today. Noooo clue on calories, I'll use FitDay and calorieking and guess.

2 servings of oatmeal

1.5 cups(?) red grapes (it was like 5 or 6 ounces)

Grilled grouper in a lemon butter sauce, over asparagus (I'm guesstimating 2.5T butter went into it, plus the grouper fillet and asparagus -- I tried to avoid the sauce somewhat, but it was too artful to put on the side)
1/2 roll with a smidge of butter (1/2T)

3/4ths of a 9" veggie pizza, light on cheese and heavy on veggies
1 cup(ish) diced pineapple
2 strawberries

Exercise: Well, I was at MGM Studio for about 10.5 hours, crisscrossing the park, so lots of walking
Calories: I plugged it into FitDay and it estimated 1700. That's plus/minus a few hundreds. It's so hard to guess calories when eating out!

10-28-2005, 07:13 AM
Yay, it's Friday! I was down 3.25 at TOPS last night, so something I've been doing has been working! Today's starting out like this:

frosted cheerios w/skim milk
2 slices plain cheese pizza
who knows what for dinner--I'll plug it in later once I know what I'm having

10-28-2005, 10:28 AM

walnuts pre-commute
cottage cheese

hamburger w/tomato and blue cheese dressing on bun

Afternoon snack to keep the Beast at bay:
glass of milk
pickled herring

beef stew with veggies
3 beers (blew my calories, and made me retain water, but boy were they tasty!)

Snacks throughout the day:
slice of cheddar cheese

coffee w/creamer

about 2000

stairs and walking

10-28-2005, 10:30 AM

cottage cheese

pepperoni pizza
raw broccoli, cauliflower, tomatoes with a bit of dressing
five green olives

Afternoon snack to keep the Beast at bay:
protein bar

liver and onions
4 slices bacon
sauteed mushrooms

Snacks throughout the day:
lowfat mozzarella cheese stick

coffee w/creamer
diet soda

about 1600

stairs and walking

10-28-2005, 11:53 PM
Okay, another Disney day. I was starving today, and too footsore to walk so I ended up eating whatever. But not horrid, given that I spent 6 hours at Magic Kingdom and there was a LOT of walking, I'm the most inefficient park visitor ever, always walking in circles.

3/4ths of a bagel with lowfat cream cheese
About 8 large strawberries

Dole Whip, about a cup, maybe a cup and a quarter -- soft serve ice cream, vanilla and pineapple swirl -- I swear, the whole thing was like 3 cups of ice cream if I'd eaten it all!

Big cheeseburger with ketchup and veggies
Too many fries

Soft pretzel at the theatre

Exercise: 6 hours of theme parking
Calories: Who knows! I guesstimated breakfast at about 300, Dole Whip at about 350, lunch at about 1100, and dinner at about 600. So about 2350? Could be off on those counts, though.

Hi folks,

Getting here infrequently due to computer problems. Life is going really well which oddly enough can mean dangerous days for me. Dealing with success and good feelings is usually harder for me than anything else. Weird wiring I guess!

Have fallen off with the water and exercise the past few days but food has been good until today when I had a 4!!!!! danish lunch!!!!! I think I know what is going on with me, i.e. first paragraph. Posting daily really helps me to stay on track.

Thanks for the encouragemnet with the LMT. Have fallen a day or two behind but it looks like a finish within the week :)

Dishy and famogram, showing up during the tough times is what this is all about. Congratualtions for hanging in there. Love the new pic' Dishy

Hi folks,

Getting here infrequently due to computer problems. Life is going really well which oddly enough can mean dangerous days for me. Dealing with success and good feelings is usually harder for me than anything else. Weird wiring I guess!
Same here! I have 2 theories as to why I feel more challeneged in times of happiness and success:

success = celebrations! My parents, my sister, my boyfriend...everyone likes to take me out to dinner to celebrate good times. If not out for dinner, then perhaps some nice, fatty, home-made lasagna, brownies, desserts, etc. :dizzy:
awaiting the downfall. This may sound extremely negative, but when things are going really well for me, I just fear that I'm running straight into a brick wall, ya know? I worry about things taking a turn. I need to get out of this mentality, but when it's been the pattern of your whole life, it's hard
So anyway, you're not alone! These reasons may totally not apply to you at all, but it just goes to show that we all face challenges even in positive times.

As for the reason we're here, we ended up trying a new pizza place near our apartment for dinner last night. It was SO crowded--and for good reason, as the food was delicious! I had had pizza for lunch, so I got a "chicken roll"--a square of dough wrapped around sliced chicken, marinara sauce, and mozzarella. They have AWESOME dough--soft and a little chewy. I can't wait to try their pizza--on a planned splurge day, of course ;) Anyway, that out me up to about 2600 calories for yesterday :o

Special K bar
Golden Grahams cereal w/skim milk
sandwich (ham, provolone cheese, swiss cheese, miracle whip, honey mustard, and lettuce on a whole wheat potato roll) w/Sunchips
whole wheat pasta with sauce (tomato paste, no salt tomato sauce, turkey sausage, and seasonings)
Total: a little under 1800 calories :smug:

Hi everyone! I'm new to reading your forum and just have to say you're all doing such a great job! I'll write my calories for the day since I'm doing well so far :)

Breakfast: cheese sandwich with low carb bread & 2 slices lite cheese
Lunch: 4 oz ground beef on 1 slice rye with 1 slice fat free cheese
Snack: Zone bar

Calories so far... 630

We're going out for sushi tonight so that should be low calorie!

10-29-2005, 10:29 PM
We had a pretty big discussion about Nutrigrain bars...so I decided that I would replace it with yogurt and a piece of fruit.

Saturday: Mom came to visit had 2 pancakes, no lunch, walked alot around a pumpkin patch/maze. We ordered fajitas, ate tortillas meat and guacamole and chips and salsa, ate a cupcake for ds bday. I counted the points later and it was like 75 points!!!!

Sunday: bagel, yogurt, fajitas for lunch ( 2 tortillas, meat and onions only),chips and salsa, for dinner hamburger with ketchup and light mayo, baked beans, potato salad. Cupcake from ds2 bday.

I split my breakfast up into two parts. So yogurt at 8a.m. and fruit at 10 ish.
For lunch I had 1 serving baked lays with a sandwich with two pieces of sarah lee delightful bread with light mayo and celery and carrots and tuna. I had an apple for lunch.

I realized on Monday afternoon this is nothing in points I came home and inhaled- I kid you not- inhaled two cupcakes. I had a serving (weighed it) of roast beef, a little bit of mashed potatoes, and corn with butter buds.

Tues Same as above but I ate more baked lays-grazed(yep bad me)- I added a skinny cow ice cream, dh ate the last of the cupcakes THANK GOD!! and for dinner we had grilled chicken, pasta salad and baked beans and the rest of the corn from last night! :) - confession time ate some mike and ikes Lots of 'em

Wed: I had my yogurt, bought a bagel-ate it (plain heated in the microwave nothing on it) about 10 ish, banana, same sandwich as above with baked lays, carrots, skinny cow ice cream, spaghetti with four cheese tomato sauce (measured the noodles) and one slice garlic bread.

Thurs: Bought a bagel again, yogurt, banana, carrots, sanwich, chicken with a slice of cheese, mayo and celery, Thurs is pizza and salad night. I eat a big plate of salad with tomato then ate half a cheap pizza.

Fri: Bagel again, yogurt, went to lunch Chili's had guiltless chicken pita,
ate an apple, didn't eat dinner because I am sick and sinus drainage. blech!

Sat: Still sick, matcha green tea blast for breakfast, two bottles of water, realized I forgot my lunch bag at home ate some sun chips from vending. Dinner- Chinese food brocolli beef and rice egg roll. (saturday is my 'free' day where I eat what I want)- Night is not over will have some vodka tonics during the in home date night after the baby goes to sleep.

Weighed this a.m. lost 5.6 lbs. don't know how but think its because I replaced some things for veges, yogurt and I have been drinking lots of water. I cut out the ww meals ( I think they're high in sodium)

10-29-2005, 11:43 PM
Third and final days at the theme parks. I drive back home tomorrow, visiting Mom on the way for brunch.

Small box of raisin bran with 1/2 cup of 2% milk
3/4 container of non-fat yogurt

Ceaser salad with grilled chicken

1/2 cup kheer (Indian rice pudding topped with something that has bits of walnuts)

2 shrimp from a shrimp cocktail, dabbed in cocktail sauce
2 bites of a roll with a pat's worth of butter
8 oz filet mignon, dipped in a butter wine sauce (on the side)
1 cup of mashed potatoes (about half of what was on the plate)

Exercise: 8 hours in the theme parks walking around

Hard to estimate. But I'm guessing 1925 calories (and about half of them at dinner!)

10-30-2005, 01:18 PM
Welcome, Valerie Joy! Great to have you here! Do you have a specific plan for food and exercise?

I've had a mixed week really, straying over my kcal allowance for 3 out the last 6 days. I think most of it was pretty healthy food, just too much of it. But it was that (together with too much booze) that got me fat in the first place, so I can't afford to be complacent.

I'm sorry I've missed a few days posting. No excuses. I'm off to Calgary for 3 or 4 days on Monday or Tuesday, and I don't think I'll have 'Net access there. I'm determined to make healthy food choices and get in some exercise whilst I'm there. :halffull:

Sat 29/10:

Breakfast: 1 cup Optimum Slim cereal, cup 0% milk.
Lunch: 3 sushi maki rolls, salad (red cabbage, carrot, cucumber, radish, tomato); 1 l water.
Snack: Grilled mushroom & pepper sprinkled with oz Parmigiano Reggiano, 1 l water.
Dinner: 5 oz chicken breast (grilled), 1 cup rice, 1 cup peas, 1 l water.
Extra Drinks: Starbuck's grande Sumatra with 2 tblsp. half & half, 250 ml green tea, cup 0% milk, 500 ml water.

Total kcals: 1536 (plus free veggies)

Exercise: 15 minute bike ride, 45 minute walk.

10-30-2005, 07:42 PM
I'm sick. :( The good news is, it's the end of my vacation. Maybe it's just exhaustion from the long drive down to Disney after work, then 3 full days of theme park commando touring, then another 7 hour drive home. I think I'm getting a cold or something, I just feel blech. But anyway...

Veggie and cheese omelette (1 egg, 3 egg whites, cooked with Pam)
8 oz orange juice
1/2 of a small croissant

Lunch (on the road)
McDonald's hamburger (the kiddie size)
McDonald's fries

Healthy Choice Mesquite Chicken BBQ
Some watermelon chunks (5-6 oz?)

Calories: 1422

No exercise. I just feel blah. I was going to cook dinner, but I just want to sleep so frozen food it was. Hopefully I'll feel up to speed tomorrow.

10-31-2005, 01:16 AM
