Would love support though if anyone wants to join in the fun! :-D

Hi, I started today..Friday.10/21. I am also a sugar holic. So I laughed when I saw your "recovering sugarholic" by your name. I was on the SB a month or so ago and did and felt really good. Better than when I was on WW. Sugar is the hardest thing for me to give up. Candy specifically... I can do all day and then around evening I hit the couch, TV and want sugar.
On SB it was amazing that my sugar cravings went away. I lost 3.5 in 8 days.
I am at 174 now and would like to drop 20 lbs. How will we find each other in the posts again?
Take care,
Wendy

Hey ladies--let's check in this morning! How is everyone doing on Phase I so far? I had 1/2 of an asparagus, crabmeat and cheese omelet this morning and coffee. Tried to eat before I left home and I am never that hungry at 6:30 AM! Usually I bring breakfast to work with me, and eat when I am hungry. I brought cheese and almonds for a snack today and roasted veggie soup and the souffle-stuffed chicken for lunch. Mmm!
Let's get a walk in today! It's freezing here--we went from summer to winter! Frost on the car this morning! But I walk at work during lunch with a friend and also during one of my breaks.

Today's my first day on SB Phase 1. Yesterday I went and got groceries, prepared lunch and snacks for today. Breakfast I had an egg, onion with cheese omelet. Water. Snacks will be some almonds in a.m. a turkey roll up in afternoon. Lunch I'm have a salad with grilled chicken & no sugar balsamic vinagrette dressing.
I am so excited but nervous that I'll still eat the wrong things. I really need to stick to this to get down 25 lbs for my wedding. That's why I'm here I need all the support I can get. I'm 5'4" and starting at 186.4 lbs. Nobody can believe I weigh that much--I told my best friend at work who is starting with me & she said no way, but I do. I guess I hide it well. I have large chest and a pooch stomach that I need to get rid of.
I started walking on my treadmill again & will get some weight exercises in too. I'm looking forward to SB being a new way of eating healthy, last time I tried I lost and had a ton more energy! I need that too.
Look forward to chatting with you all & getting motivation through the board.
Thank you!!!!!

Hi,
First time on this board and this is the first thread I've seen!
I've also started phase 1 today- I've had a 3 month plateau after losing 15 lbs with WW three months ago and have decided to kickstart myslef with the SB plan (did it before and lost 10lbs in 3 weeks) Going on holiday to Dubai in 17 days so will try to stick to phase 1 for the whole time :cheer:
I'm in cold rainy Warwick in the UK, so thinking about South Beach and bikinis is hard!!!!

Hi,
I've restarted SBD today on Phase 1. Glad to have you guys as company!
Now, I must have lost my mind or my glasses ;) because I can't seem to see the FAQ section. I also did a search and couldn't find the answer to this question: Are flax seeds ok on Phase 1? They are a seed and listed under the nuts section, so that sounds ok, but could they be considered a grain? Help!
Thanks folks,
JessieW

Clareh, My best friend spent a semester at the University of Warwick in the UK, she adored it! :-D
I think flax seed is okay on Phase I--will see what I can find.

I checked over on FAQs, flax seed is considered a nut, limit to 3 tablespoons a day.

I'm restarting Phase I in the morning. A day late, but I'm here, and that's gotta count for something.
I hope you're all surviving Phase 1. I always end up off the diet at the end of the second week of Phase 1. I really need to work on that.

Phase 1 update!
I've cheated and had a carrot (as I wanted something to crunch and thought it was better than fruit. However, I'm not going to beat myself up about it)
Today's menu
B egg, ham and spinach, low fat baby bel cheese
S: carrot and home made hummous :carrot:
L: Veggie soup, chicken tikka salad
S: Pistachio Nuts
D: King prawn stir fry (king prawns, pak choi, peppers etc..)
I've only got the first old book and I know there have been some updates. How does this look to you all?? :?:
Good luck for the rest of the week :D

The revised food list is posted on this site under FAQ.

10-25-2005, 10:31 AM
I had one tootsie roll and some carrots yesterday--I was at book club and the only thing I could eat was spinach dip with carrots and red peppers. Figured it was better than cookies and chips, right!? Other than those slip-ups, everything was OP and I have been getting in 10,000 steps every day on my pedometer (equivalent of walking about 4 miles a day).
Today's menu:
Breakfast: Tomato and basil pizza veggieburger
Snack: 1/2 omelet with crabmeat, asparagus, and parmesan cheese
Lunch: beef stew, big salad
Snacks: Pecans, lowfat cheddar
Dinner: lowfat kielbasa with sauteed peppers and onions, cheesy roasted artichoke hearts
Snack: no sugar added fudgsicle
Clareh, definitely check out the revised food list on the FAQ board. There are some things like tomatoes and dairy that I know have been revised in and are great and helpful additions!

Hi,

A fudgesicle is a chocolate popsicle. They're on the allowable list in the "Good Fats Good Carbs Guide". :) They're yummy!

myholiday&everyone else--
Saying this is hypocritical for me, because I am still iffy about beans, but remember that eating beans and your dairy allotment will help you not to feel achy and get that "South Beach flu."
Hey ladies I had a small slipup last night but nothing major
had a procedure done after work and didn't feel up to cooking so nuked some chicken which wasn't entirely SBD friendly
Today I'm kicking some Butt!
Oh I stumbled upon something yummy and legal
I tossed some Walnuts into a bag of Cinamon and splenda that I had on my desk for oatmeal and the walnuts were soo good!
Clareh-what goes into chicken Tikka salad? I loooove Chicken Tikka!

In a nonstick skillet, I sometimes toast up pecans and slivered almonds in a little margarine, then add Splenda and cinnamon. SO yummy! Too bad you have to stop at 1/4 cup!

The carbs in milk (lactose) are good SLOW carbs and will help with that detox crud!
Ditto for veggies - 4½ cups per day and not just iceburg or romaine. Hang in there!

KO: a chicken tikka salad is cooked cold chicken tikka from the supermarket, red pepper, salad onion, mixed leaves and spinach. V filling and quite good for you with a balsamic vinegar dressing. I also do the same with tex- mex chicken.
Question though: I;ve not been able to find in the FAQs. How does salt affect the SB diet? I've had a stir fry with oyster sauce (which was low sugar, but tasted really salty) I'm sure with the soy sauce and 5 spice powder I've really over done it. ) Just wondered what to expect....? (In weight loss terms, not having to drink loads of water as I'm doing now!
JessieW
10-26-2005, 10:18 AM
Clareh, I don't know that there are regulations on salt but I think you know it's smart just to watch your sodium intake. Generally I think SBD helps with that because you don't eat a lot of frozen entrees or canned food, which have tons of sodium.
How is everyone this morning? I had a pretty good day yesterday...I was hungry though! Sigh. I went over my calories for sweet treats, had probably 125 calories instead of 75. I am not seeing a budge on the scale, probably because TOM starts Friday. I am hoping by Monday that lovely weight will dissapate and I will have a decent loss for October!! I have only lost a pound and a half this month which is sad, but my fault.
Today's lovely menu:
Breakfast: "Philly Cheesesteak" veggie burger
Snacks today: Splenda and cinnamon pecans, cheese stick, SF fudgsicle
Lunch: souffle chicken without the sauce, cheesy baked artichoke hearts
Dinner: grilled salmon, sauteed squashes
Have a wonderful day,
Jessie

JessieW
10-26-2005, 10:49 AM
zucchini and summer yellow--I can eat those, right?

10-26-2005, 11:15 AM
Day 2 on SB was good- never felt hungry, ate my snacks and got my exercise in. Plus gallons of water (it felt like it) I'm getting enough walking in to the bathroom in back in my building at work :)
Day 2 menue was:
B 2 scrambled eggs with LF Motz cheese
2 slices canadian bacon
Snack homemade beef jerkey from 97% ff gr beef
2 slices celery with some Skinny cow cheese
Lunch
Salad with grilled chicken, 1 hardboiled egg & lf cheese
LF SF Balsamic dressing
SF Jello
Diet Coke
Snack
LF String Cheese
3 slices celery with remaining packet of Skinny Cow cheese
Dinner
1 pork sirloin chop
Green Beans
Zucchini Squash grilled
Salad with 1 hb egg, some almond slivers & balsamic dressing
2 glasses skim milk
Can anyone tell me if my menu is looking OK--anything I should be avoiding that I'm not realizing? I feel great, I can tell I'm losing lots of water weight, taking in more water etc. I'm alos at TOM so I know later week or this weekend I'll see a drop. I'm down 3.4lbs since Monday a.m. start.
Have a great day on the Beach!

Hope you're all doing well.
Day 3 is going well in terms of eating, but not generally. I know about SB flu but think I may be getting the real thing (you don't sneeze and cough with SB flu right!)
B: 2 eggs, half a courgette and spoonful of refried beans (lf)
S: Home made houmous and a (non phase 1) carrot
L: Chicken salad, lf yoghurt, lentil sout
S: Mini baby bel light
D:????? Involving feta cheese and spinach.
I did 5 mins on the cross trainer but felt quite weak so may have some fruit or carrots etc as not feeling too good.
Let me knwo if this is SB flu!

JessieW

We're always happy to have more!
How is everyone doing today? I had a small issue yesterday with some Chinese food...all of these "small" things are going to add up. I was down on the scale this morning though, and still hoping once TOM starts it will drop a few lbs! I have been mainly faithful to P1--although it's hard to go back after P2!
Menu for Day 4:
Breakfast: Philly Cheesesteak veggie burger, coffee
Lunch: LCL round, roasted artichoke hearts with cheese, bunless burger
Dinner: Sage and rosemary pork loin, salad, SF fudgsicle (I swear I could live on these)

coffee with SF FF cocoa in it
Lunch

Day 3 & I'm doing good- down 4.8 from start. I have a lot of energy have been drinking water like it's going out of style.
Breakfast today: 2 eggs with lf cheese
4 slices canadian bacon
Snack : homemade beef jerkey, lf string cheese
Lunch Salad with grilled chicken, tomato & lf sf balsamic vingarette
SF jello
Snack : 1 slice celery plain, 1 slice beef jerkey
Dinner 4 scrambled eggs, 2 slices canadian bacon

Snack about 10 pistachios.
If I make it Friday on menu that will be a HUGE accomplishment. I'm used to eating out and grazing on weekends. Maybe a steak & salad will get me through. Haven't exercises last 2 days. Tomorrow I'm on the treadmill for sure.
Going good. Have a good Friday.

Help!
I need a meal assessment. My OH is working away in Northern Ireland from tomorrow for 4 days so is cooking me a 'suprise' meal (which he's tried to fit in with SB principles afer i told him what I'm trying) but I think it's all off course a bit
The menu is sirloin steak, cajun butternut squash, home made coleslaw (lf mayo), green beans and champagne. ;)
Obviously this is still not v phase 1, even though I've had another day of being on plan. Is it worth it to go back to phase 1 tomorrow or should I ease back in gradually
(and I do appreciate I'm a lucky woman!) :dizzy:
Any advice would be good- I look at your menus and I'm so impressed with your sticking power- day 5 and I'm sliding off....!
ClareH that's so sweet is your DH going to Belfast? I went there for a weekend it was very pretty
Ruthxxx
10-28-2005, 06:06 PM
4.5 cups of veggies per day, chcikies, and it should not be all lettuce! Use other greens.
Clareh
10-29-2005, 12:55 PM
Thanks KO- he's in Belfast now, and I can't criticise anyone who takes the trouble to read the SB book before cooking, but he was definitely on phase 2! He also had selective reading when it came to champagne, but I'm certainly not going to bet myself up about that. ;)
Day 5 is back on phase 1 with
B: Eggs, ham and lf cheese
S: Got up late so went straight to lunch
L: Veggie soup
D; Veggie Chiili with lf cheese
S: Pistachios (as the girls are coming round later so ate early)
Hope every one's Day 5 is going well.......... :smug:

Sat. I was done 7.2 lbs for day 5!! I didn't have much to eat Sat. & had some wine so I'm at 6lbs today. Still makes me happy.
Today I skipped the jerkey & loaded up on veggies.
B 3 egg denver omelette
S lf string cheese
L Salad w/lf ham, red pepper, lf motz cheese, lfsf vinagrette dressing
S sf jello
Dinner pork tender loin 2 c. brocolli, cauliflower mix, 1 c. green beans

I'm at -6.0. Trying to eat more veggies. I think I've eatten every frozen veggie in my freezer! Today I do not feel like eating. Last night I was very tempted by candy but didn't touch it. I think that temptation has stuck with me all day- but I haven't given in.
I have to cram in a LOT of vegetables for dinner because so far I haven't eaten much.
Does anyone ever feel like that- not eating? Hmmm.
