Hello Fellow Beachers, Im Starting Tomm So Im Not Quite In The Sand Yet. Im Still Lingering On The Boardwalk. But I Just Told My Boyfriend Who Thinks Hes A Health Specialist About My Diet Plans. And I Got The 3rd Degree. I Basically Got A Lecture About How I Should Eat Carbs And How This (first Phase) Is Ridiculous And Just A Fad. I Tried To Fight For The South Beach Diet, But It Kinda Got Nowhere. If You Can, Please Give Me All The Positive Aspects Of This Diet. I Need A Reason To Do This And Some Credible Facts To Prove That Im Not Crazy And That This Really Works.

I Wanna Know What The Experts Think.

Thanx Ladies!

Hi and welcome... the only thing I can tell you is that the first phase really helps to eliminate cravins, and for many of us with high blood sugars or insulin resistance it is a great boost to our eating style to be free from cravings.. gradually adding in good carbs and paying attention to how my body reacts to them has been very helpful. I am better able to make good choices because I now listen to my body. No every person is the same - so a diet that helps you find what foods are personally optimal for your health is a good one.

Brodey, it looks like you got the hang of it, but the reason your first post is in 'title case' (first letter of each word is capitalized) is because you wrote it in all caps. Remember that all caps can connote shouting to other people and is tough to read, so we try to stay away from it. :)

There will always be people who don't agree with whatever plan you do. I'd give your boyfriend a copy of the book to read. If he is like most people, he knows next to nothing about SBD and incorrectly assumes it's an unhealthy low-carb diet. In truth, other than Phase 1, it looks almost identical to the new Food pyramid. It's one of the healthiest plans out there. :D My doctor recommended that I start SBD, and I know there are several others here that had the same experience.

One of the things that makes Phase 1 more healthy than other detox plans is that you are allowed to have carbs (like bell peppers, beans and legumes, and tomatoes) so you don't go into ketosis. You are using Phase 1 to get rid of the sugars in your blood. In all honesty, this really only takes 3-5 days for most people, but doing it for two weeks not only makes it easier to go to Phase 2 with no cravings, but it helps you lose a little extra weight (though with you so close to goal, you won't see a huge loss, but that's okay!), which is motivating. :)
