Challenges:
1. Get in three to four days of exercise and post it!
2. Drink at least 1/2 oz of water per pound of weight per day. You need to flush those toxins out of your system!
3. Pick a new food to try this week, and post about it.

MMM- A late night dinner is probably the cause of my 2.5 pound gain... I will check it again later in the week and hopefully see it go back down.

GOOD MORNING!!!
I had a little time and thought I'd check in and say hello. I am waiting for the ac/heating company to come out and take a look at our units and make sure they are working efficiently. They were supposed to come last week, but they got caught up on the freeway (car caught fire and started a brush fire).
I was at 120# this morning, which is pretty good since I ate way too many cookies over the weekend. We made some cookies for the firefighters, and some for ourselves, and they are my favorite (chocolate chip with pecans, coconut, etc...).
I have a super busy week this week, which is why I chose to take a break from the board, but check in when I can.
Today, after the ac/heating guy leaves, I have to get to the mall to pick up some things, and then pick up the girls from school, and then drop their cards and cookies off at the fire station, and then get home (around 4:30) and get ready to leave by 5:30 for a meeting I have re: my reunion planning.
Tomorrow, I have to aide at Lane's school, and then have some errands to run. We then have to go to Lane's school tomorrow evening for an open house (the entire family will go). Dad and Britt get to see her classroom and meet her teachers and see what she does on a daily basis.
Wednesday: Britt has a half day, so I will take Lane to the gym with me, and then pick up Britt and take her out to lunch and then to the doctor. I then have my Mom's Night Out that night.
Thursday: Lane has school, so I will go to the gym. We then have to pick up Britt from school, and accompany her to a Brownie's Field Trip to a pumpkin patch farm. We won't get home until probably 7 p.m., and we will have homework, baths, etc...
Friday: Lane and I are going to a pumpkin patch festival with my sister and her son, and then will stay in town until it is time to pick up Britt and the other girls from school.
Whew...I'm tired just thinking about it. AND, I wonder why this time of the year flies by....we are so busy.
Since I probably won't be checking in tomorrow (unless just to read), here are some Tuesday Tips/Motivational ideas..whatever you want to call them!
I am reading two great books right now....The Everything Weight Training Book by Shirley S. Archer, and The Everything Total Fitness Book by Ellen Karpay. They are real easy reads, and have really great/valuable info. in them.
Commitment For Life:
Fitness is not a "destination" that you visit occasionally in your life. Rather, fitness is a "road trip," or excursion, and an ongoing state of health. Participating in fitness activities consistently and regularly is what ensures your best chances for improved quality and quantity of life. Fitness is the process, and fitness is the reward.
Evidence from research suggest that much of what we used to think was due to age really results from inactivity. With regular practice, everyone, even people in their nineties, can improve flexibility, range of motion, balance and agility. (I totally can agree with this one, as my grandparents lived to be in their late 80's, early 90's and lived on their own, being extremely active until the end).
Longitudinal studies show that older adults who exercise compared to sedentery adults of the same age are effectively at a biological age of as much as ten to twenty years younger. So, get Moving!! It will do you and your body a world of good.
Well, have a wonderful OP Week, and I will try to check in when I can!

What a beautiful cool, crisp morning we had today! :sunny: it was 38 degrees up in my neck of the woods!I think we are headed for the mid seventies today and it feels great! Rachel ended up getting reading glasses yesterday, but the doctor says it's a very mild prescription and she may eventually grow out of it. How do they know? I have never seen so may tests that they can do on your eyes nowdays! She had the depth perception test, glaucoma test and retinal scan as well as the normal reading chart and dilation tests that I'm more familiar with. Supposedly the retinal scan eliminates the need for dilation, but it was necessary in Rachel's case for some reason. Her glasses are very cute and suit her well. They are kind of a wine/rose color, but close enough to pink to make her happy!
Hope everyone has a good Monday!

I guess I can post a loss, because I had gained a pound or two the past couple of week with our out of town trips. Down to 164, which is down from last week.
Got my walk in this morning; went 2.5 miles today instead of my usual 2 miles. Then I came home and weighed and then had breakfast. I still remember what BOB said about weighing at 9:30 a.m.
There were a couple very interesting articles in the USAtoday this morning about weight issues. One article was about protein and its property to keep us feeling fuller, even more than eating fat. So, for good success and less struggling with hunger, eat protein!! It mentioned that two test groups ate 1400 calories daily, with one group eating more fat and the other eating more protein. Both groups lost about 20 pounds in two months, but the higher protein group reported feeling fuller and less hungry 3 hours after eating than the higher fat eating group.
The other article was about keeping weight off after you've lost it. It tested 3 groups--one basically "going it alone" with only occasional support, one getting support from the internet, and the third getting support from face to face meetings and even phone calls. All groups weighed themselves every day, and if they stayed 1 to 2 pounds within their desired weight they stayed in the "green zone". If they were 3 pounds outside their desired weight they were in the "yellow zone" and had to pay attention to what they were eating. If they were 4 or 5 or more from their desired weight, they were in the "red" zone and had to take steps to get back to the desired weight, such as counting calories, journaling, etc. Some of the main points of the article:
•If you are watching your weight and get to 5 pounds above your desired weight, take steps NOW to get back down. More than 5 pounds makes it much harder to get back down, and staying within that 5 pounds will keep you in control.
•People that got the weight off and kept it off for more than 3 years got the equivalent of 4 miles of walking exercise every day.
•Weigh every day to keep a watch on whether you are staying within the "green" zone.
•Writing down what you are eating was a big help to all those successful maintainers.
•All the successful maintainers ate breakfast.
•All the successful maintainers ate consistently, meaning that they did not overindulge on the weekends.
The article also mentioned that we all have a "hunger" hormone called ghrelin and a "fullness" hormone called leptin (the one Monet talks about) and that when we lose weight our bodies tend to decrease our leptin and increase the ghrelin.
If you are interested in reading the full article, go to www.usatoday.com and click on the "print edition" in the left hand column and then on the "Life" section. One article is on page 1-2D and the other on page 5D.
What all this means for us as we strive to lose and even reach our goal is that we should also eat consistently and not binge on the weekends. That sabotages us. That remends me of the quote: "The chief cause of failure and unhappiness is trading what we want most for what we want in the present moment. We trade our efforts and desire to be 140 pounds for a bowl of ice cream. This all also tells us that we must be very aware or keep track of HOW MUCH we are eating. Even too much of broccoli is not a good thing.!! :) We should also not let our weight get "out of control" even on the way down to our goal. If we have stalled on losing, make sure we don't put on more than 4 or 5 pounds during the wait, because then we end up out of control and on our way back up the scale, which is not the direction we want to be going in. We also should eat breakfast and get some type of exercise every day. Ok, enough of my report and comments on the two articles.
My DH is in Chicago for a couple of day. He says the weather up there is nice and cool.
Well, gonna go. Want to study some french and maybe knit a little. Have a great day.
What an absolutely gorgeous morning!! I weighed in at down 1.5 lbs this morning, although it's really only.5 . The one lb was what I had gained in Louisville. I went to the Y for my water aerobics. Afterwards it was so beautiful that I drove around for awhile with the windows down. Jake fell asleep, so I stopped at the park and let him sleep in the car while Selah and I played. The park is in our neighborhoos, and I parked about 20 feet away with the car locked and jus this window down so I could hear hom. Selah and I had a blast. I love the times I have alone to play with her. They don't come often. I get him alone all the time, though.
My finger is doing a bit better so I can type. It's amazing how quickly our bodies can heal!
We have some friends coming over for dinner, so I started a put of garbanzo beans for soup, and some black beans for a side. I'm making Guiso, a bolivian dish that everyone loves. It's soooo good! ANd amazingly healthy. I should post it sometime.
I got ambitious and made my own rice milk this weekend. It was great!! With about $1 worth of organic brown rice, I got a whole gallon of rice milk!! It was realy easy and a great way to save $ with how much rice milk we go through.
Monet- You'll drop that before you know it!
Gator- thanks for the info. I wonder if I can get on their website to read the entire article? I'm going to try.
Thin- It is gorgeous out isn't it!!! I just love it!!
Pancho- And I thought that I was the busy one....
toni- We're here, we're here!!
Ok, Jake's not very happy. I think I'll take them back out side and mow the lawn.

GATOR: The Ghrelin and Leptin go hand in hand...Ghrelin is involved in the release of HGH (human growth hormone) which is necessary for healing. Having surgery for weight loss seriously interfers with the Ghrelin system, making the proper balance in the metabolism impossible. Mastering Leptin has a whole chapter on Ghrelin...you really need to read that book! I know you will find it fascinating. Tell Mr. Gator to say hello to Chicago for me! (I grew up in Oak Park, just west of the downtown area, right off the Eisenhower Xway)
TALITHA: I would love the recipe for rice milk....AND that Bolivian dish.
THIN: It was cold this morning! I even put socks on! That is too funny about your daughter wanting pink glasses! I need to get new ones, and I keep putting it off. I can't decide if I want to go to ABC, Costco, or someplace else. I have secret bifocals right now, and I am seriously thinking of trying contacts again...
PANCHO: Good to see you! Your week does sound awfully busy!
TONI: I am glad you got stocked up on good things...now back on track with you! :)

Monet-It was very cute. The salesman wanted to know what her favorite color was. She said yellow and pink. He pulled out several pair that had pink on them, but actually her Daddy found this particular frame and it's really cute, small oval shaped. They are made by Capezio. (I thought they only made ballet shoes but apparently I am mistaken.) The dancer in her was really impressed! Now I'm wondering what color bands she will get on her braces when we go to her orthodontist on Tuesday. She may be "blinding" with beauty! :lol3:

Hi Ladies,
I'm back and ready to get back on track and serious about this eating. I have had some serious problems last week and some horrible life situations that I can't get into right now. So needless to say, if it wasn't nailed down, I ate it. The scale reflects it too. Got some groceries in yesterday and ready to go full steam ahead. It is crazy busy here but jumping on daily to keep on track.
Monet, I'm sure that gain will be gone quickly.
Toni, sounds like you are getting back on track. Good for you.
Bob, sorry those numbers were bad, but at least you got to the doctor and know what you have to do. We can do this together. Lets go.
Gator, sorry about the loss this weekend. Gators that is. Glad you had a loss on the scale though. SOme very interesting points in the USA article.
Pancho, glad to see your post. Sounds like you are going to be very busy this week. Drop in when you can.
Thin, Rachel will enjoy her glasses now, but before long will be wanting contacts. Glad she likes them. Enjoy your great weathr.
Talitha, glad you got some one on one time with Selah. Mowing hte lawn will be great exercise too. Congrats on your loss.

Okay...I'm back from California. Many, many stories to share, but none that I have time to get into right now. Have to make dinner.
But I will share one... :s:
Did I mention that my brothers-in-law found $800 in a cashbox that my MIL had hidden for her Vegas money? Well, did I mention that my BILs swiped it and decided to divide it four ways to all the four brothers?...seeing as how it was her gambling money, we decided to take it to a casino and gamble it for her. So...my DH and I took ours to San Diego to the ...Barona?... casino. Anyhow..I took a $20 and started at a roulette table and walked away with $250!! Then my DH took a $20 and put it in a $1 slot machine and in three pulls, walked with $500!! Then I bellied up to a nickle slot machine, put in a $20 and turned my 400 nickels into 5000 nickels, walking away with another $250!! We like to think my MIL was on our shoulders, approving of our taking her cash to the casino directly after her funeral :s: We had the time of our lives, that's for sure. Not so sure everyone will agree with mixing spiritualness with gambling, but...you know... ;)
Other than that...the train ride was beautiful and quite an adventure!! What a beautiful country we live in!! It was really great at night in the sleeper car when they go over rough track, I literally felt like I was going to be tossed right on the floor and my DH and I would just die laughing.
So, needless to say, after my culinary tour of LA and Southern California...which mostly consisted of taquitos and in and out burgers and shakes...I'm feeling...well...FAT!! MMM? Not even going there this Monday. I'll try next Monday.
So, off to fix dinner. I think I'll go on plan starting tomorrow. I just went grocery shopping this afternoon, but have been picking on bad things like cookies all afternoon. Man, it sure is hard to get back on the wagon once ya fall off.
And...I'm eternally grateful to be back with my kids...my bedroom...and my BATHROOM!! :o
Okay..really going now...will post some pics later and some replies to you guys.

I can't believe I've done so well. Its been a long time since I've been totally OP for a day. Don't know what this means but hope it continues. But I'm pleased with myself today.
Pancho- Oh my gosh what a week you've got set up for your self. You'll be busy as a cranberry merchant. As we say in Missouri. Hope you can take a little time for you...
Thin- Your little ones glasses sound so sweet. Love the color pink and have a pair of glasses that are pink too...
Gator- congrads on the weight loss.... Thanks for the articles....
Talitha- Woo hoo on the weight loss!!! Keep up the good work...
Monet- You Lepitin book sounds so informative... I love hearing about it.
Solly- I'll be saying some prayers for you that things go better in your family.
tech- Welcome home. And it sounds like you had a blast...

I'm still here and plugging away. Have been a wee bit in the dumps of late but I know it's only a temporary thing. Life with a baby is sooo wonderful, but it can be drive off your friends really, really fast! So I've been a little bit lonely of late as I adjust to being a stay at home mom. :( I know I'll eventually find some peers with young children. Tomorrow I hope to FINALLY make it to a knitting group at my local yarn store. My in-laws may come this week for a few hours to have some granddaughter time. That will be sooo wonderful, as the Frogs don't have any family that lives closer than 2 hours; all of mine live in the deep south near Fill. End of pity party.
Went for a walk today to enjoy the nice temps outside. Love fall! Miss Baby wore the pumpkin hat I made (knit) her. That's my girl! On a brighter note, Mr. Frog is turning 40 in a few weeks. Tadpole will be 6 months on the 21st and our 13th wedding anniversary is the first week of November. Then we cruise on into Thanksgiving, the Christening on 12/4 then holiday traveling begins. :dizzy:
The scale is stuck at 187.2. I guess that's better than a gain.
TECH - Glad you're back safely. The casino sounds like fun and just exactly what your DH may have wanted her kids to do - have some fun in her memory.
PANCHO - I'm tired just reading your post! Whew!
SOLLY - Hang in there hon! You've got the right attitude!
THIN - I don't know where you are in the North Georgia mountains but the temp sounds wonderful! I have ties to the part of Georgia. I spent a summer working in Dahlonega at church camp and DH was born in Gainesvill when his father was a Ranger instructor in Dahlonega. I've canoed on the Cartecay and rafted the Chatooga. Lots of my church camp friends went to Young Harris College. It sooo gorgeous up there. Many happy memories.
A big HELLO to Monet, Toni, BOB, MELF, FILL, Cindy and Gator. Hope that was everyone! PLease forrive if I missed anyone.
Time to go get ready for bed. Check in later!

FROG: The pictures are precious! The hat is awfully cute and almost does that gorgeous tadpole justice! Thanks for sharing! Glad to hear you love Dahlonega. We are on the north side of Atlanta, and running up 400 to Dahlonega is a pleasant drive. My daughter lives on exit south of Gainesville....in Oakwood. I am sorry you are feeling lonely. If I lived closer, I would meet you for lunch. The knitting group sounds like fun! Speaking of knitting...I need to do some. Think I can walk and knit at the same time? I might try that on the treadmill....

I'm so excited to see everyone back. I love it when the board's hoppin! I just walked into the bathroom and found Selah standing on the scale completely nude, clothes all over the floor. " I look a scale, momma.' Poor thing was shivering all over. It'll warm up by 10am.
My house is FREEZING! There is no insultation and we agreed not to turn on any heat until Dec 1. I'm ok with it but Trav is driving me crazy complaining. I keep telling him to pretend we are camping :)
(This was from 6:30am that I never sent)
----Later-----
Jake is taking a nap right now. I suppose he's exhausted from his hour an da half of play starting at 4 am. I am.
WE had a great time last night. It's been quite awhile since we have had anyone over. The husband is in a very popular christian band. Seriously. One time last year I called his cell and he answered it wispering "I'm at the Grammy's... YES, right now." ANyway, It really put my complaining about Trav traveling into perspective. The night before, the guy was in Alaska, last week he was in Denver. They have 2 kids the same ages, and she's really having a hard time with him gone. It's nice to have someone who can relate, but that gives me some perspective, too. They live in Alpharetta, but I'm hopoing that we can start spending some time together with the kids when our men are gone.
Today is going to be pretty laid back again. My water class is at 10:30 and then I'm going to do some sales calls this afternoon.
We have ANOTHER coupld coming over for dinner tonight. I'm going to make Pad Thai with rice noodles. I don't know if the noodles are exactly OP, but everything else will be. I may make peanut soup, too. WIth all of these peopel coming over, I'm starting to feel like MONET Jr. SHe's got people over all the time.
Frog- I love the fall, too. It's my favorite time of year. I jsu twant to be outside and ignore anything else I need to do. THe tadpole is absolutely precious. She's so beautiful!! Jake wan't to know if she's spoken for. We could have a little Baby busters group going ;) How far are you from gainsville?
Monet- I'll post the recipes for you this afternoon.
Toni- You're awesome!! great job on the eating!
Cindi- I don't blame you for not weighing. I don't think I weighed once in August.
TEch- Weehooo!! Whatcha gonna by?
Solly- Welcome back. I'm so sorry about your week. We're here for you. Selah and I are sending prayers for a peaceful day your way..
Thin- That sounds like it was a fun experience. Capezio is great!

Good Morning Ladies,
Well day one went ok. It was SB legal, but I couldn't go w/o eating between meals like I wanted to do. Around 4:00 I got a little shakey and had 2 crackers with cheese and while fixing dinner I snacked on cheese and pepperoni bites. I had about 4 oz of sf ice cream before bed. At least the scale is moving in the right direction.
We got about a 3 mile + walk in last night. DH decided he wanted to add a little to it. We will do it again tonight too. This week we will only be able to do it 2 times until Saturday morning.
Tech, we are so glad you are back. The board has been so slow and we know you will pick it up. I totally agree you did the right thing with the found money. That is what your MIL had put the money away for and I think she was right there with you having a great time. I'm glad you all had fun with it.
Toni, one day behind you. One day at a time. Lets do this.
Cindy, the time off is nice, but I like routine too. I do much better.
Frog, Children are a complete turn around in your life. Your friends either don't have children so they go another way or they have their own children at different ages and that goes another direction. You think it will stay one way forever. but I guess that is what makes the world go round and makes us better more rounded people. You will adjust and meet new people. Give it some time. It has to be hard with no family close. But at least you have us. What a preceious hat, but even more precious tadpole.
Talitha, I got a good laugh out of Selah on the scale. Guess she has seen her mommy doing that many times. At least she didn't say the things you say to it. Glad you are having some friends w/o husbands in. I'm holding out on the heat this year too. Just add layers of clothes.
Monet, I don't think you should try the :tread: and knitting at the same time.
Gator,
Bob, hope you had a greaet OP day too! How were those green beans?
Have a great day.

Good morning! Glad to see things are hopping on the board this week! Our heat kicked on this morning for the first time this year. I think we will try to set the thermostat a little lower than what we normally have it in the winter and add a layer of clothes too! We also have a wood burning fireplace that we try to burn during the evenings. It's so nice to have a fire. We turn the heat down and just let the front of the house get warm because it really puts out the heat! We need to look around out property for fallen trees or something though, cause I think we're pretty low on wood right now. We have two acres and in-laws have something like 20, so we should be able to find something!
Tech- sounds like you had a great time even though the trip was not for the happiest reason.
Frog-TOO CUTE! she is precious!
Monet- Be careful! You wouldn't want to "put your eye out!" I love that movie!
Talitha- hope you have another fun evening!
Solly- this is perfect weather for a walk!
Toni, Cindy, Pancho and Gator- Hope you all have a great day!

Happy Tuesday to all. I'm feeling a bit under the weather today so I'm taking it easy. I'm still in my robe and need to go get dressed and get my bed made. Its supposed to be in the 80's today. May have to turn that ole air conditioner back on again. UCK! Had a piece of peanut butter toast on ww bread for breakfast this morning. Along with coffee. Making meatloaf for dinner with half deer burger half ground beef.
Cindy- Hope your first day back at work is a good one.
Frog- Oh my gosh what a cutie in the darling pumpkin hat. What a good job you did. Your little one is just a doll.
Talitha- Can't wait to see the recipes too!! You're an awful busy bee.....
Solly- Yep here we go again. Hopefully this will be a good week.... Wishing us luck....
Thin- Love to have a fire here to. We have a wood burning stove and enjoy it... But we need more wood. Hope we find some too.....
Monet- Good day to you!!!
Time to go get dressed.....
Well off I go to dress and get that bed made.

Just a quick accountance of my menu today.
BF: Double blueberry protien shake (I made enough for two but DS didnt' want any so I drank it all :o )
Lunch: Will be turkey on sourdough and cheese with mayo/mustard and some grapes.
Dinner: My farewell dinner for my parents before they migrate to the central western coast of Florida...yes, where Wilma's headed. I wish they'd just wait till the storm comes and goes. You know, once these 'seniors' get a schedule planned, it takes an act of congress to change their minds. BUT, tonight we're having Tilapia with mashed sweet potatoes and instant brown rice. I think I read somewhere that the instant brown rice isn't all it's cracked up to be (as far as being a non-white item and low glycemic), but if you knew the things I've been eating the last week, it's really a long way from a malted chocolate crunch shake from Jack in the Box
Anyhow...I'm sitting here doing my husbands bidding all morning even though I have a ton of things I need to get done myself. He's gone again for work and wanted me to pay all these bills...one he insists on me paying on line, which I hate because every single account we have for all these different things have all different parameters of what you can/cannot use for userids and passwords, hence, they are ALL different and I take soooo much time trying to figure out what userid/password I use for this account and now I'm waiting for the password to be text messaged to me. I'd much rather just call the 800 number and get it overwith. But he insists on me doing it on line. and now here I wait for the password so I can take the bills to the mailbox and then, maybe, I can get on with my laundry and planning my dinner. It all seems, to him, that it should be so simple, but when you're doing a hundred other things along with paying the bills, it takes for-everrrrrrrr!!
So, anyhow...back to getting things done before I forget what it was I was doing before I was redirected in another direction to do something else before I was redirected in another direction... :dizzy: At least I got the dog washed...he was out playing in the mud again...dogs...
Okay...will be back later

Solly--I think the not-eating between meals would definitely make anyone lose weight, because you just eat less food. And, as Monet says, it also gives your liver a change to take a break. Without all that "nibbling" we just get used to less food and, voilà, there goes those pounds :) . However, I normally have a snack in the afternoons. From noon to 6 or 7 is just too long a time to go without food, and I get grumpy, shakey, and good for nuthin'. So don't get down on yourself if you have a healthy snack to tide you over. Everyone's body is different, and what may work for one person might not for another. Cheese and crackers (SGWW of course!! :) ) or an apple and some p-nut butter are all good choices, I think. Just write them down in your journal if you are still journaling. I still have to journal. I've found that when I don't my portions get a little "sloppy."
I just got back from Costco where I spent a bundle. Our church is sending stuff to Alabama to a church there where Katrina did a lot of damage. I took one of the "to buy" lists on Sunday, and bought a bunch of large sized stuff. I had my convertible packed to the gills and had to put the top down to get it all in. Thank goodness for that back seat. It holds more than the trunk! I KNEW I'd use that back seat a lot.
My DD is coming over in about 30 min. I think we are going walking in the neighborhood, then eating here, and then going to some store where she saw a dress she liked for a wedding dress. Her fiancé will be out of here in two weeks or less, I think. :) He probably will be moving to an apt. on her side of town. Probably VERY close to where she lives.
Well, gotta go unload the car. I'm typing now because I was tired and needed a break, so sat here with my iced tea and read and relaxed.

I started a post this morning, then the phone rang and I never finished it. I just erased it and am starting over. :) School went well today. I am trying hard to encourage the kids to plan, and try hard. Today's class was good, but a few just don't try very hard. I am pondering how to 'reach' them.
I did not have much time before I had to leave this morning/noonish, and went to grab something to eat, but found nothing right off. Then I went and packed up my stuff, and swished out the door, and totally forgot about lunch! So, by the time I left the school and headed to Publix, I was starving. SOLLY, if you plan five hours between meals, that is perfect. So, eat lunch later if necessary to get your five hours between. I find now, at five hours, I can TELL its time to eat, whereas before, I just ate all the time! :) I eat breakfast at 8, lunch at 1, and dinner at 6. If I oversleep and eat more like 9, I don't eat lunch until 2, and then I try to get dinner pushed back to 7. It gets tricky, as then I have to stay up later, but it works.
I need to go fix dinner, so I will come finish up this post later!

Got out of the house today and went to visit my former coworkers during their lunch break. Not too long after I got there they received a phone call from their supervisor that her 3 month old son was blue, had stopped breathing at the baby sitter's home and for everyone to pray. They transported him by ambulance to a prestigous hospital in our area and were trying to recusitate him. He passed away a short while later. It was heart breaking.
They suspect SIDS but aren't sure yet. He had a few of the risk factors - 6 weeks preemie but a decent birth weight for being that early, "colicky," male, and white.
I've never known anyone whose child was suspected of dying of SIDS but did know of a couple whose 3 month old son died of RSV. I was not close to either of these couples but their loss is painful; even moreso now that I have a little one.
All I've been able to think about is how devastated I would be. No more complaining from me about needing a friend. At least I sill have my precious, precious child.
Hold your loved ones close tonight and thank God for their presence.
More tomorrow.

Frog- That's terrible! We have a friend who lost her firstborn this summer due to meningitis. She is one of my daughter's former dance teacher and we went to the funeral home to visit. I did not think I could handle sitting through the funeral, though Rachel (who is 11) wanted to see Ms. Katie. so we compromised. Her precious son was only 34 days old and had spent only 36hrs. at home before returning to the hospital. He looked just like a porcelain doll lying there. It was very sad.

FROG: I kind of understand that heartbreak. A couple we were close to, that we went on a mission trip with, lost their little boy to SIDS. Also, the pastor of our old church and his wife lost a daughter to SIDS ..on Christmas morning! Can you imagine? These are situations that just rock me. Give your dear tadpole a hug and kiss from Auntie Monet... I will be praying for the family...
I got all my evening chores done...and even cleaned up a bit in the kitchen. I got a lunch ready for me, James and got Tom's stuff done too. How productive of me! I think I will go knit and get ready for bed. I am feeling rather tired, and tomorrow is a busy day!
CINDY: I hope you are settling in at work, after the vacation. I don't blame you for waiting to weigh...I really ought to do every other week...
TALITHA: Shall we plan to meet a week from Friday? I had a blast... I laughed at Selah weighing in nekkid. Its funny the things they imitate that we do...its never the cleaning up stuff, you know? Its always something weird, embarrassing, or their diction becomes perfect repeating a wirty dord!

BOB--Yep, I'll pull for You Tea against Bama if you'd like. I don't mind pulling for the ole Vols. Does this mean that now that visor Man is gone, your opinion of the Gators is softening and you could actually root for them against another team, say UGA? ;) I hope you guys win, especially after that sad day against the poodles in Neyland Stadium. I expect that in two weekends the Gators will have the same result that they did in Red Stick. :(
Frog--That's a very sad thing to happen. We have our children only on loan from God.
BOB--I would love to have sum of thim beans!! :) With that Uncle Wileys they are soooo good. I agree that pole beans are the best, but good ones without a ton of strings are hard to get.
Monet--Hope school goes well for you tomorrow. did you take any pictures when you met up with Talitha? Did you post any of them?
Hope everyone has a great evening.

oops, I guess this is my first time on the board this week. Where does the time go? It will also probably be the last, I'm headed to NC tomorrow. I'll be back on Tuesday. I may get to check in from there, but may not.
Frog--That is so terrible! I know you've been hugging the Tad extra tight over the past 24 hours. I can't even imagine. . .
Solly--Good to hear that you are doing well.
BOB--up-oh looks like you might be next on the hurricane target list--and I can't believe that Wilma bacame a Cat 5 lover night! I will be praying for you! Oh yes--I'll be pulling for your vols on Saturday too. Really, really hard!
Tech--Can you explain what happened to Wilma overnight?????? lad you are back from Cal safely. I'm sorry you didn't get to meet your MIL, but it sounds like she liked you, from all the "help" she seemed to be giving you and hubby!
Talitha--Wow sounds like you have been busy. I like a woman with a plan so good luck on growing your business!
Gator--Sweetie--I'm keeping you in my prayers too. I know you don't need Wilma either. I've never seen anything like the last couple of years. Geez.
Monet--Happy teaching today! Have you got them drawing yet? It looks like I'm going to be passing through Atlanta either Monday afternoon or Tuesday morning. I'd love to visit with you for a little while. I'd also like to meet Talitha if possible. Is there somewhere central(ish) where we could all meet for a cup of coffee? Harry's always works and I'm down to 2 bottles of agave.
I hope everyone else is having a good week!

Good morning Ladies
It is a brisk morning but supposed to warm up considerably later.
We got in 2 walks last night. The first about 20 minutes and I had to meet my DD to get a birthday gift. Then afterwards we walked for another 30 minutes.
Another legal day under my belt.
Thin, I'm always anxious for that first fire of the season. We have one almost every night after that.
Toni, hoping you are feeling better today.
Tech, hope your parents are safe from Wilma. Such a worry to have.
Gator, I haven't been journaling this week. Just trying to get back on track and exercising. But next week I'm back to journaling and weighing again. Have fun shopping for the wedding dress.
BOB, your menu doesn't sound like enough food. Just beans for lunch? Don't want you starving yourself.
Frog, prayers for your friend. That has to be so devestating. I don't now how you get through something like that.
Susan, have a safe and fun trip to NC.
Monet, have a great day teaching today. Hope the kiddos are good for you.
Have a great day.

Is anyone else unbelieveably tired this week :tired: Or is it just me? I suspect a lot of it has to do with the changing weather and the cool mornings. I could just stay in the bed, snuggled up for hours!
We have a couple of hectic weekends headed our way! This Friday night, my niece is celebrating her 20th birthday with a masquarade party. I am taking meatballs cooked in the crock pot, you know the ones made with jelly and BBQ sauce. EXCEPT I am using all fruit and low carb BBQ, so maybe it will not be too bad. Also, I'm taking a mexican dip with refried beans, black beans chees, salsa, etc. and some tortilla chips. I'm thinking I will take a bag of regular chips and some that are more legal or even "homemade". The dip sounds really cute, apparently you can pipe sour cream on the top to look like a spider web and decorate with spider rings or whatever.
Then on Saturday night my dh's aunt is having a weinie roast at her house and next Saturday we will celebrate Halloween early at MIL since it is really on a school night. So I should be "Halloweened" out by the day it actually gets here!

I just got in from school. I was planning on running over to Hobby Lobby, but stopped at home to change my shoes and clothes. I find I just can't bring myself to leave now...so if I go, it will be later, or tomorrow. :(
School went great. The kids were especially good, except for the last class. They are the oldest ones, and just were all giggly today. They finally buckled down and did good work though. It just took some encouraging..which is what I get paid for! :)
Lunch was funny. They had spaghetti. It was rather meaty, so I got a small bowl, plus some salad, and ate my leftover steak and mustard greens too, along with a cup of NSA applesauce, a very small banana, and water. I passed on the cake beautifully displayed in the center of the teacher's table. I think I was the only one who did. A few of the kids wanted me to sit with them, but today I sat with the adults. I will probably sit with the kids next week. I really enjoy it, and they feel so special if a teacher will sit with them!
I laminated and put up a bunch of posters of famous art works. Matisse, Renoir, Kandinsky, O'Keefe... Now my room looks like an art room. I just hope the Spanish teacher doesn't mind! :) She has class in the room on Fridays.
I need to go chill. I am also trying to wear a pair of capris I wore all the time before my surgery. I still find they rub me wrong around the incision, and it is making me very annoyed that I have these pants I really like that I still can't wear a year later! :( So, I am going to tough it out for a little while and see if I can stand them.
THIN: I have been tired too! Monday I could barely stay awake! It was weird! Thankfully, I slept fairly well the last two nights, so its not as bad.
FILLISE: I would love to meet you Monday or Tuesday morning. If its Tuesday, the earlier the better, as I teach at 2, and need to be there at 1:30. Harry's works for me. I hope Talitha reads this, and responds...I can call and see if she can meet us. We might meet closer to her..the DeKalb Farmer's market is not too out of the way for her, or me (better on Monday though!) and would be just off the interstate for you... I am assuming you will have your cellphone with you? Shall I call and set it up?

I am posting some pictures from Techwife...
I hope I get them in order. The one with three folks in it is from left to right, her hubby, Tech, and her brother in law. There is one of Tech and Mr. Tech, and one of the train they traveled in taken in Albuquerque, and one of the scenery in New Mexico, taken from the train.

Thank you, Monet!! :D You got the descriptions right. The train shot is on the platform at Albuquerque where we got out and bought some crafts from the Native Americans. The one of me, DH and BIL is in BIL's front yard in San Diego under his banana trees. I wish I could have banana trees in my yard, but they don't do too well near Canada  The one of me and DH alone has the Hollywood sign behind us and we were about 3/4 of the way to the Griffith Observatory and the road was closed and I turned around and said, "Hey, its the Hollywood sign!!" So, my other BIL took the picture of us. We look like we were talking because we were trying to explain to Jim how to work the camera :dizzy: The landscape is of New Mexico outside of Albuquerque. I just thought it was so beautiful...I flat-out expected to see a cowboy sitting by a campfire at any minute.
Anyhow...those are some of my pictures. I wish I could figure out how to resize pictures on my Mac!

Okay...have to wash dishes.
Oh...and someone remind me tomorrow...I have to get to the post office and pay for my speeding ticket or there'll be a warrant out for my arrest!! :o I just looked at the calendar and forgot all about it and it's due tomorrow. At least I 'earned' the money back at the casino!!

Im am so sorry. For some reason I cannot keep up on the posts this week. Ive been working out extra hard the past three days trying to get off the extra weight I know I put on last week on vacation. I did get on the scales today and it was a 2.5 pound gain. I suspect it was worse than that. Just glad I didnt weigh sooner cause it would of just depressed me. I can handle a couple pounds.
Works been hectic trying to catch up and also prepare to start my new postion on Monday so wraping up things that are on my desk and preparing to hand over my old work to someone else.
Ive got 4 days in of exercise with 2 more to go. Darn..wait..actually its 5 so far cause I did go for a walk Saturday morning ( which is normally my day off) woo hoo Im doing better than I thought. I wish every week I could be so energetic.
I dont know if anyone remembers but I was having a problem with one of my fingers for the past 5 months or so and my family dr sent me to a orthopedic dr which I saw yesterday. He said it is tendonitist trigger finger. He shot me in the hand with cortisone and said we will see if that does the trick if not then he will have to go in there surgically and do something to the tendon ( lets hope this shot works) I go back in a month. Today it is extremely sore from the needle but I think it is moving better. So Im really hoping this is gonna work.
Well now its time for me to head off and prepare things for the morning.
I hope everyone is having a wonderful week. And hopefully I can get caught up soon . :)

BOB--Someone has got to pull against the mutts. Might as well be you after the lickin' (Ha ha, get it, licking--that's what dogs do, ha ha) the curs gave the Vols up there in Kville. Don't worry, I don't think Monet misses anything. With her artistic eye, she is very observant. And she's just letting us rant!
Monet, congratulations on your class and success.
Tech, I have a Mac and I think they do pictures so well that there are too many pixels or whatever for them to make it under the kb limit of this board. I have to send all my pix to Monet too. Sometimes if I email the picture to myself I can get it under the limit, but not often. Ask a techie friend if they can tell you how to resize them to get down to very low numbers.
Fillise--Hope you have a great time visiting with Monet and Talitha in Hotlanta (not so hot right now). Those are two really neat gals. I look forward to meeting you next year when the Gators play the Tigers in Auburn. I think it is next year. Can I park in your church parking lot again. That was the first time we ever got to see downtown Auburn--Toomers Corner, etc. Usually we have to park in timbuktu and had no idea what a cute town it was. We even spent some money there. And hope to see you in person, not just your pictures on the board!!!
Gotta go. My DH is already in bed. He brought home a cold from Chicago.

BOB and GATOR: Of course I have seen your discourse on the Dawgs vs. the handbags. As Gator said, very little gets by me. I just don't see any reason to join in. If Georgia beats UF, great! If not, I am sure someone will delight in pointing it out to me. As for BOB pulling for Fla., perhaps it will work like her pulling for whoever is playing Auburn.
Dinner tonight was good, but I ate too much. We had beef vindaloo. (TALITHA, that vindaloo paste is really really good!) I also made brown basmati rice, and spinach with chana dal. I highly recommend chana dal. Its GI is like 6! Its like baby garbanzos, and lends itself well to spices. I like it with curry, and onions, with tomatoes and spinach. I have recipes if anyone wants to try it. Make sure when you get it, its not yellow split peas. Its also called Bengal Dal. I get a brand called something like Laxami, and its good. You have to wash it well, but it is very low GI and tasty!
Ok, I am falling asleep..I better get off here and go to bed. I went for a walk after dinner with James and I am now feeling particularly wiped out!
Sweet dreams!

Not only is Wilma expected to slap around the Southwestern Florida coast as a CAT 3, but one computer model is now suggesting that she'll hit the Cape Cod, Massachusetts area and the rest of New England as a CAT 2!!
After this hurricane, any named storms will start with the Greek Alphabet, Alpha, Beta, Gamma, etc. What a freaky year for the tropics!! I never thought they'd actually run out of names!

The kids went to see their cardiologist yesterday. Rachel will just be monitored for right now as her cholesterol is not too high, but if it starts an upward trend we may have to do something. Sean's has not budged :( , but his blood pressure is much better :smug: We actually saw the doctor this time and not the nurse practitioner. She is nice, but it was great to get to talk with him too. He says that he thinks we are doing all the right things and praised their pediatrician for recognizing the problems with syndrome X now and not waiting till it causes heart problems later. It was nice to be told by a doctor that you're doing well! :D He also wants Sean to have a bone age test done. He and Rachel are now that exact same height and within one pound of each other, much to Sean's dismay. So, we'll see if he is growing as he should.

Weight is still the same this morning. We are going out for dinner tonight and also Saturday night. Tonight is a banquet for the CPC where I volunteer, and Saturday is dinner at friends' house. Hope I make my weigh-in on MMM! I gotta go walk now.

I am so irritated. I have resizes this picture liek 5 times to try to make it my avatar. Any ideas? It's from when I took the kids to the zoo a few months ago.
My back is killing me. I think i did too much at the Y yesterday. :(
Trav is interviewing for a new job. One of his venders approached him about a position that they have available. He sent in his resume, and has already goe through an email questioning process as well as a phone interview. His face to face is on Monday night. The good news is that the pay would ba a considerable amount more. The bad news is 50-70% travel with the remaining time working from home. I'm torn. RIght now he is traveling 50% for this job, and travel was NEVER mentioned when he started in may. I've always dreamed of him working from home, which he would be part of the time. It's all going to come down to how much more he will make. It's a much better position and he is really excited.
I went crazy with eating yesterday. I think I ate 7 Newman-O's (Organic Oreos) At least 1/2 a cup of trailmix w/ m&m's and choc chips, and some vanilla ice cream. It wasn't all at once, but throughout the day, between my amazingly healthy meals. ARRGGG!!! I feel so gross this morning. I think I need to start posting my meals again.
Monet & Fillisie- I'm up for Tuesday morning at The DFM. For some reason I feel like I have something important on Monday, although it's not on the calendar. It's probobly something in the afternoon, anyway. I'll try to check it out and see. Let me know what works best for you guys.
Monet- Haven't used my sauce yet. Trav is out of town so I want to wait until he is back. My C-section incision is still sore sometimes, too. I have trouble with low rise pants and underwear. ALthough, I shouldn't be wearing that for atleast 20 more lbs anyway ;) WHat was teh website with the GI info?
BOB- Where the heck do you get all your crazy graphics? Ivery time I'm readingyour posts, Selah stands by my cpu and gets upset when I scroll past it. ESPECIALLY those leaping frogs. "wook Momma, tu fogs!" Your eating looks so good!
Cindy- That sounds really painful. I hope the shot does the trick!
Tech- Happy shopping!!!
I can't believe there's another hurricane like this coming. I really hope everyone can stay safe. Does anyoen else feel like our country is being beaten up by the weather bully?
I'm off to pack. I'm going to go stay with my mom until Saturday since Trav is gone. I have a meeting tonight that she is going to watch the kids for and I am shooting a wedding with my dad on Saturday. I'm jsut goign to hangout tomorrow. Should be nice. WE haven't had much fmaily time in the last month.

I think it will work better for local sales. I can't wait to hear what you think. For my $100 I got 10 eye shadow colors. I can't wait to play with them!

Gator: I agree with the Mac pictures thing. It really does a great job with them and you can't beat the red-eye feature!! And I think you are so awesome for all you're doing for our friends in Alabama. It's people like you that make the world a nicer place!!
Thin: My heart goes out to you with the problems with your kids. Gosh...I don't know how you handle it. Hugs and prayers that things start to improve for your family... :grouphug: I've been pretty tired, too, this week, but I think my woes have more to do with sleeping six nights in a sleeper car on a train and getting tossed around like a Mexican Jumping Bean all night. Honestly, that trip from Chicago to Syracuse was hilarious!!
Monet: Post those recipes!! I'm always looking for a new item for my dinner plates! My sister-in-law taught me some Philipino recipes when I was in San Diego, but I don't think Chinese noodles are on our list of approved foods. She taught me how to make panset. She also taught me an interesting way to cook chicken...Put about a half inch of vinegar (she used cane sugar vinegar) and some garlic an a bay leaf (some other ingredients, but I have them written down) and just boil the crap out of the vinegar until the chicken is cooked!! She put in potatoes, too. I wish I could have spent more time with her. She's a great cook!! Also, thanks again, so much for posting my pictures!! ;) And...I have to agree with Solly about the whole knitting while treadmilling thing. :lol3: That's just an accident waiting to happen, but I'd love to watch you try!!
Cindy: Jeez...you're busy. I hope all goes well with your job transition and you get your sore finger squared away soon. I used to know a lot of women that had tendonitis and/or carpal tunnel in when I was a hairdresser. Apparently all those perms we did in the 80's had a negative effect on our wrists, winding all those darn perm rods. A lot of people had to have surgery, but I know of some with the cortizone treatments that helped. I've been so busy, I didn't notice you went on vacation. Where did you go? Where are the pictures!?! :(
BOB: Well, as a year-round New Yorker, I"m saying farewell to the migrating snow birds!! At long last I can go the speed limit without being slowed down by Florida plates!! So, now it's your turn....I'm sure you'll be sending them packing back up my way come springtime. My big question this time of year when I still see Florida plates is, "Don't these people actually have to live in Florida for some time during the year?" :lol3: Really, I just don't understand why they have to drive so friggen slow!! I'm convinced they really only spend a week or so down there because by the time they drive all that way at that speed, it's time to go North again.
Fillese: Wilma is sitting right over top of the warmest water in the world, which is like high octane fuel for a hurricane. I was shocked when I woke up and saw that barometric pressure in the 880's!! Holy Toledo!! I know there is a tiny island right about where Wilma was sitting...I'd be suprised if its still on the map!!
Solly: One day at a time, chicka! It is soooo hard to get back on track once you fall off. I'm only half kicking my self for all those milk shakes in CA. They were soo good, and my DH and I really bonded over them. But I did this just as I got to my all time low of 157. Oh, well, I'll get there again...hopefully before the next reason to cheat comes. I'm really ready to flat-out say 'forget it' when that time comes. I've only got a few weeks to go before my birthday and my goal of being a size 10 for it. Oh, well...I'm a long way off, in my size 14/12's from the 18's I was in last birthday!! I have to remain positive!!
Frog: Your little tadpole is adorable!! That hat is just awesome...you did make it, right? And...Holy Toledo...I can't even begin to comprehend getting a call like that at work that my tiny baby didn't make it through the day. My heart feels like caving in just at the mere thought of it. I feel for the babysitter, as well. Just a horrible thing to have happen!! I know when both my kids got passed 6 months old, I was so relieved...you really get pounded with SIDS, and the like, warnings when you are pregnant and when the babies are little. What a horrible thing to have happen to anyone. Hugs and prayers to you and your friends. And...regarding friends...don't discount your feelings of being lonely. Being a stay at home mom, especially in the beginning months, is sooo overwhelming on soooo many levels. I don't think you necessarily lose your kidless friends, they just kind of go on haitus. I have a best friend from 7th grade and she's married with no kids and she borrows her nephews when we get together. As your tadpole gets older and starts to get friends, you'll become friends with the friends' parents and get a whole new circle. Until then, just enjoy quiet time with the little shaver. They're only tiny once and before you know it, they're off to kindergarden, telling you "Uhhh....when are you going to leave, mom?" I just went to have coffee with some other moms yesterday for the first time without my Kyle. It was kind of nice to talk without being interrupted, but I was outta there in no time to go back to Kyle's preschool to help with crafts and potty runs! I'm such a big baby.
Toni: I thought that we were the only people (in the northeast, that is) that use AC and heat in the same day. :lol2:
Talitha: Yes, the Weather Gods have been slapping us around alot this year. It goes in waves. There were record numbers of hurricanes in the 60's too. Its actually necessary to the global atmosphere to balance out the temperatures at the poles and the equator to keep things stable. I also say it's God's way of pruning the trees...great, as long as it's not MY trees he's pruning!! Good luck to your hubby with his job opportunities and have a blast at your moms!! Oh...and $100 worth of eye shadow? You are my absolute IDOL!!
That has to be just about everyone...I sort of cheated this am and had a bowl if Life cereal. I know it's not the greatest thing for me, but I was just so pooped this morning. The first day since I've been home that I don't have anything on my plate to do...except pay my speeding ticket!! Which I'll be outta here shortly to go pay. Will walk to the post office to get my money order and then drop it in the judge's mailbox. I'm so embarassed that I'm paying it on the day it's due, but with all the events in the last month...
Okay...off to brush my teeth and find the leash. You know, I can't believe I"m doing this...but I'm actually trying to convince my DH that we need a second Old English Sheepdog. I love Junior so much...but he always breaks my heart when I have to leave him in the kitchen or the back yard or stop petting his sweet head. He looks at me like I've only scratched the surface of giving him all the love he needs. He's the sweetest dog I've ever met. So, I'm thinking of sending Derek to the breeder adn getting him a little sister to love and play with and naming her Daisy. I think it would be awesome to have them both on leashes...Junior and his little sister. You know, sometimes I'm gone all day grocery shopping or taking a kid to the doctor and poor Junior has to stay in the backyard alone the whole time. That, or I cage him in the kitchen and leave on talk radio to keep him company. I think he'd rather be outside :lol3: . But seriously, I think with a second dog, they will keep each other company and will love each other adn all that. Am I insane? My mother is about to have me committed. She doesn't even like to be in the same room as Junior...
Okay...off to the post office!!

Okay...just got back from the post office (posted on the exercise board) and paid for my ticket.
My, it is beautiful out today, though. It's only about 50 degrees out, but you guys know I'm not much of a hot weather person. The leaves are all over the ground, and Kyle and I had a blast running through them and Junior had fun chasing them. What a nice fall day...

Hi Ladies,
This has to be quick. I am running out the door to a meeting. Nothing exciting happening with me. Legal so far this week. Yeah! scale is moving down!
I won't be on tomorrow. I have meetings all day out of the office. If I get back in time, I will try to get on here. In case I don't have a great weekend.
Thin, it sounds like you are going into these Halloween parties well prepared. Good for you. Good luck. I was exhausted after dinner. Don't know what it was. Finally got a second wind around 8:00.
Monet, I'm so glad the kids were good for you. The kids really do love it when the teacher eats lunch with them. Makes them feel important. Hope those pants work out.
Tech. What beautiful scenery. What a cute couple you two are. I love Kohls. Don't get there as much as I would like. Leaves on the ground already? Just keep thinking about those 14's vs 18's. You will make it to the 10's soon.
Bob, cereal does't fill me up that much. I've been eating the South Beach. It's good but I need protein in the morning. You're doing great.
Cindy, hope that shot helps. It probably will for awhile at least. Good luck on your new job next week.
Gator, that was not a nice present for Mr. Gator to bring home from Chicago. Hope he is feeling better soon.
Talitha, Sending prayers for Trav's job. Things happen for a reason. So if it happens it was meant to be, if not....

Tech--LOL! We joke down here about all the NY plates and the big cadillacs they are on going so slow. We know the snowbirds with the Fla plates drive slowly too. My DH says that they probably can't see well enough to go faster. Same reason they often are in the left lane on the interstate highways--going slow there too. He says they can see that middle line a lot easier than the one on the right edge, so they just hop over there in that left lane and follow that big white line--slowly! LOL
I just got in from some time working in the yard. Boy there is a lot to do. I cleaned up the little pond in our front yard and pulled about a gallon of string algae out of it. Then I put some chemicals in to kill all that remains. Also pulled some weeds and wild ivy in the front yard and then started on the butterfly garden. It was so bloomin' hot this summer that the garden got neglected. Who wants to work hard in 95° heat? Not me! I got about 3 feet into the butterfly garden and had to trim the neighbor's prickly holly hedge because he had let it overgrow into my garden. By the time I got all that done I was pooped. Took me almost one haur to get it all cut back and picked up. Really prickly!! So I decided to come in and take a looooong break and maybe go out later when the sun goes down a little. I definitely won't get my walk in today like I thought I would.
BOB--See, I told you Monet noticed our conversation. And she acts pretty cool about it, too. But you can tell that she doesn't like our SEC "attitude" about the mutts, er, dawgs. As soon as she called the suitcas. . . , er, Gators the "handbags" I knew we hooked her. :) Actually, that was very clever, and I give her an A+ for that. Interestingly, in a discussion on a Gator Forum that I visit, during the NCAA flap about some schools, eg. South Dakota, FSU, etc., being disrespectful and "hostile" when they call their team the "braves", Sioux, etc. it was suggested that the Gators change their name to handbags or suitcases if PETA ever got the NCAA to say that teams named after animals were being disrespectful. LOL
Well, I just came in to cool off and rest a bit, and I think I'll fix some lunch for myself. Talk later.

Just opened a box of things we had shipped from California and came across a picture of my mother in law with Kyle Chandler. Do you guys remember him from the show Homefront about 1991 or so and then on the show Early Edition with the guy that gets the paper from the next day and has to save everyone? Well...he was my inspiration for my son's name. I've just always really liked him.
Anyhow...my mother in law calls me up about two years ago and tells me about the nicest actor she's working with (she worked the studios as a seamstress) named Kyle Chandler. Well, the two of them hit it off and she has the cutest picture of her with him that I kept. I think I might send it to him and have him autograph it for me. Gosh...he really is cute.
As soon as I get my digital camera charged, I'll take a picture of the picture and send it to Monet for squishing and you guys can see it. I really miss my mother in law and loved talking to her on the phone...I just really wish I could have met her face to face. :(
Okay...back to you guys later...Kris

Oops--I almost forgot. I'm gonna post a Firday Funny one day early. I thought it was funny, but maybe I'm warped! This probably is worth of Dr. Laura's book on the care and feeding of husbands.
HER DIARY
Saturday night I thought he was acting weird. We had made plans to meet
at a Beef O'Bradys. I was shopping with my friends all day long, so I
thought he was upset at the fact that I was a bit late, but he made no
comment. Conversation wasn't flowing so I suggested that we go somewhere
quiet so we could talk, he agreed but he kept quiet and aloof. I asked
him what was wrong - he said, "Nothing." I asked him if it was my fault
that he was upset.
He said it had nothing to do with me and not to worry. On the way home I
told him that I loved him, he simply smiled and kept driving. I can't
explain his behavior; I don't know why he didn't say, "I love you, too."
When we got home I felt as if I had lost him, as if he wanted nothing to
do with me anymore. He just sat there and watched TV; he seemed distant
and vacant. Finally I decided to go to bed.
About 10 minutes later he came to bed and to my surprise he responded to
my caress and we made love, but I still felt that his thoughts were
somewhere else. I decided that I could not take it anymore, so I decided
to confront him with the situation but he had fallen asleep. I started
crying and cried until I also fell asleep. I don't know what to do. I'm
almost sure that his thoughts are with someone else. My life is a disaster.

Have you ever seen the Blue Collar Comedy show when Jeff Foxworthy is talking about women wondering what men are thinking? He says, "Well I'm gonna tell ya! We're thinking, I'd like a beer and I'd like to see something naked! That's it! I wish there was more to it, but there's not!" :lol3: I think that's about true!

Okay...this is completely off topic of everything we've been talking about, but something that happens to me all the time is really, really starting to bug me and I'm wondering if this happens to anyone else.
This is how I am: If I see someone that I want to say something to, but they are in a conversation with someone, I always, always wait politely for them to finish their sentence and work myself into the conversation somehow and then continue talking to the person that I want to talk to...or if it's an emergency, I excuse myself and at least acknowledge that I'm interrupting and then butt in.
This is what happens to me: I'm talking away to someone and I'll be in mid-sentence and someone comes right up and starts talking to the person I'm talking to as if I'm invisible or what I was saying was insignificant and didn't matter anyway. It happens to me alll...the...time!!! Yesterday, for instance, I was telling a mom at preschool about something significant that happened to me when I was young involving someone that we found out we both knew and the teacher just comes right up and barges in talking to the other mom as if I wasn't there. She does it ALL the time. It drives me nuts!! And she's not the only one in town that does it...it seems like people do it to me all the time and I'm starting to think it's just me and the aura I put off or something...like, "I'm just an insignifant person and what I'm talking about doesn't matter, so just butt in when you want..." It's getting really aggrevating.
Does this happen to you guys and what do you do about it? I feel like cutting my hair off and making it short and spikey and wearing lots of eye make up so I'll look scary and less whimpy. Maybe then people won't treat me like I'm stuck to their feet.
Okay...whining rant is over...off to get Shelley

I spent the day up at my daughter's helping her paint her kitchen cabinets. They are dark wood, and she is painting them white. She said she would come help me do mine when she is done with her kitchen. I think she bullied her father into considering it. He has fought me on it in the past, as he likes the wood. I don't. I am not sure how the white will go with the dark railing, and post in the kitchen...but I am willing to consider it. We drove over to the local Publix and got low carb wraps for lunch. Dinner was leftovers, and two Mavarik hot dogs. No bread.
GATOR: Your sense of humor may be weird, but then so is mine! I had a good guffaw over that one.
TECH: Perhaps it would be beneficial if you spoke to the teacher and asked her why she tended to interrupt you like that. I have had people do that to me, and sometimes I just glare...but I am outspoken, and certainly not a shy or retiring type. I think many people are afraid to do that to me, for fear I might call them on it. You can do that if you feel up to it. Someone comes up and interrupts. You interrupt them right back, saying, "Excuse me, but I WAS talking!" I guarantee you won't be interrrupted again by that person!
CINDY: Congrats on the promotion...and I hope your finger is feeling better!
TALITHA: I wish Monday would work for you. If its Tuesday, would you be willing to come to Harry's? I teach Tuesday afternoons, so I would be really pressed for time...of course all this is moot as Fillise needs to decide which day she is driving through town! :)
THIN: Keep us posted on Sean's tests. Are you and your hubby different heights? That might account for the kids similarity. My youngest sister is 5 ft 11inches tall, but my oldest sister is 5 foot 3 inches. My brother was 6'6". (I am 5'8" in case you are curious! :) )
I need to go get ready for bed, so night night!

Just got DD on the bus. It's pitch black outside, so there I stand...40 degree weather, in my bathrobe and coffee watching her as she gets on the bus. At least she passes three street lights on the way so it's at least lit up, but the sun is just now starting to turn the sky light-ish. BUT, the GREAT news is that I've gotten her grade averages in her four main classes and she's gotten an 83 average in science (which she needs to work on in comparison to the next grades), a 91 average in Social Studies and Math and a 95 in Lanuage Arts (used to be English Class). AND...she joined a club called FCCLA which stands for Family, Consumer, Community something or other and they do a bunch of community service-type things. Anyhow, they voted for officers of the group, President, etc....Shelley ran for Historian (which means she has to take pictures of all the events and make a scrapbook at the end of the year and help with a newsletter) and she WON!! The cool thing is that she is in the group with 6th, 7th, 8th and some 9th graders and she's only a 6th grader! AND, everyone but one person ran for Historian and my baby one!! I was so happy for her. It just seems so nice to see her adjusting so well to Junior High. No worries there anymore. And her math homework is so hard!! I remember doing that type of thing in high school, but she gets it, loud and clear. A few times she's bombed on a quiz or two and she's taken the initiative to stay after and work with the teacher to get help figuring it out. THAT's what I'm most proud of, I think. She's just awesome...
Okay...have to start thinking about getting my other awesome kid out of bed for preschool.

Why is the word abbreviation so long?
Why are they called "stands" when they are made for sitting?
Why are a "wise man" and a "wise guy" opposites?
Why do overlook and oversee mean opposite things?
:chin: hhmmmm.
Monet-I am only 5'1" and my husband is 5'7", so there's not a lot of height. I have been doing some research though and I think the concern may be that at his age they like to see a growth of at least two inches a year, and he hasn't had that the last couple of years, so Rachel has caught up with him. They are both almost 5' tall. Apparently they can "bump" you on into puberty. You don't grow any more than you would normally, but it just happens faster. He is 13.5 and has been asking " :?: when am I going to grow?" I will need to do more reading to see how I feel about all this. I know he is feeling impatient that everyone else towers over him, even the girls and now even his "baby" sister has caught up to him :tantrum: . He is starting to get a complex about it, but we had not brought this up to the doctor who recommended the test, so we'll see what happens.
Have a great day!

Well, its Friday, but I am not going to do my volunteer stint at the church. In fact, I have been replaced, and they don't need me anymore. :( My replacement is a new copier that copies, staples, and folds the guides all by itself. All the admin will need to do now is send it from the computer to the copier, and maybe do an annoucement stuffing. I don't know whether to  or
I need to run by the school and drop off my time sheet. I guess then I will work on cooking all the collards Ruth sent home with me yesterday. I just don't know what I am going to do now that I have my Fridays free...guess I will be meeting Talitha more often down at the market.
BOB: Oh MY! I thought you had flipped when I saw that funnie... must be the drugs, huh?
THIN: What can I do to convince you to read Mastering Leptin??? The problems with HGH are tied in with the metabolic syndrome that is also part of the leptin system. There is a chapter in the book on HGH...what tells the body to release it is ghrelin, which is released in the stomach. I think as a nurse, you will find the book very interesting. My husband has a degree in biochemistry and found it fascinating. He finished it, and has been preaching to me out of it now! I have a few more chapters to finish it, but they are on things like menopause, etc.
Ok, I am going to seek out some coffee and breakfast. I will be back later!

Okay, so I didn't say anything to the preschool teacher, I just sat and played with PlayDoh with Kyle and talked to a mom that is new in the area and isn't so popular. ;) But I was ready!!
For breakfast I had more Life cereal and for snack I had some pepperoni and cheese and for lunch I'm having a blueberry protien shake. Oh...and I think there was a granola bar involved in there, too. I don't know what I'm having for dinner yet as DH is coming home from being away all week, so I may end up getting take out.
I have to leave soon to get my smart DD and take her to the doctor then we're going shopping at KOHL'S!! :cb: I also have to get some more green yarn for an afghan I'm crocheting for a preschool auction. I thought I had a lot leftover from my nephew's afghan, along with some cream and some grape colored from my niece's afghan. But, I ran out of the sage green and need a new skein. :( I was hoping it would be a freebee :s:
I'm just having a ball dressing up my daughter for school this year. They styles are so cute...if you can get away from the 1" rise on the jeans. Gawd...I was trying on some really nice cords the other day and they had such nice colors, but that darn low rise....it goes right smack across the widest part of my body...which is my lower back and waistline. It just looks so wrong. I really don't look good with the pockets half on my legs :dizzy:
Anyhow...I'll check in with you guys later on...I'll be watching Wilma. Glad I don't live in Naples!! My mom and dad are in Arcadia, just north of Port Charolotte and lost their camper with Charley...my dad said that if they lose another camper, they're not going to Florida anymore. So, Gator and Bob...maybe there's a silver lining to the hurricanes!! They're chasing the snowbirds away!! :^: They would have chased me away a loooooong time ago!! Scary stuff, hurricanes!!
Okay...off I go to warm up after my frozen smoothie...I think I'll need some tea now...;)

Oh...and Monet: I'm so sorry you've been replaced by a copier. :^: Modern technology...it'll be the end of us all!! But I have to admit that when I was working as a secretary, it was wonderful to send your copy jobs straight from your computer and by the time you get to the copier, it's almost done printing...stapled and collated...3-hole-punch paper if you want...it was awesome!! I'm sure they'll find something else for you to do on Fridays at the church. ;)
Okay...I"m really outta here...Kris

Happy Friday. Ok Im going to try my hardest to get caught up on the whole entire week of posts . Wish me luck ... :dizzy:
I had a great day today. My last day of my old postion ! Yeah. I start training classes Monday so Im sure Ill have a sore brain next week. lol
I got in another week of 6 days of exercise. I am back down to my lowest weight of 205. I am glad it didnt take me any longer to get off that vacation weight !
Frog- Your baby is just a doll !! Thanks for sharing her pic !
So sorry to hear about your former coworkers supervisors baby. That is so sad. I have said a prayer for the family.
Bob- How is that Uncle Sams Cereal? Good?
Susan- Hope your having fun in NC!
Thin- You sure have got some Halloween activities planned !
Tech- Great Pics.
I think the pics I posted were on last weeks thread. We went to Niagara Falls for a couple days oh and 1 day/night in Cleveland.
We have two dogs for just the reason you mentiond. They keep each other company when we arent home. Or well I think they do. :) Maybe they fight..who knows.
The thing you were saying about people interupting you? I totally relate . My dd and I were talking about this very thing a few weeks ago. She feels the same way. I have "always" had that problem. And it irks me to no end. I have no idea why that is. But just wanted you to know your not alone.
Monet- what is Vindaloo? Your meals always sound so exciting. I wish I had someone here like you to cook for me . :)
talitha- Good luck for your husband on the job interview. I know thats hard to weigh money or time. My dh is gone alot with his work..well he gets home most days but works 6 days a week and is gone about a hour after I get home from work and gets home after I leave for work so we dont see each other too much over those 6 days. Sometimes I wonder if the moneys worth it.
Gator- I agree with working in the yard in 95 degree weather. I got behind on things too. Now its too cold to go out there . Im hoping for one more kinda warm day so I can get a few things done.
Ok... I think I got through them all. Had to get up a few times and tend to one of my dogs who is being irratating at the moment.
I hope noone is in the path of this new storm and pray everyone who is stays safe.

Whew! What a day! I went up to Ellijay with my neighbor to get apples. While there, I succumbed to a hot apple pie... :o Then we stopped at Outback for dinner. I got the small steak, salad, and steamed veggies. I would have been perfect if I had just kept my hands off the bread! :( After that, we stopped at Wally world to get yarn and knitting needles for her 8 year old daughter...I was teaching her to knit on the trip up to the orchards, and back. She is a rather determined young lady...and got a good bit done. Much more than I did on the piece I was working on!
I got apples: Arkansas blacks, and Mutzo goldens, and a 1/2 peck of sweet potatoes to split with my neighbor. I also bought Tom a bottle of their pickled peaches...which looked really really good! He likes them for holidays because his grandmother had them. :)
THIN: I thought of you driving down 52W. We went to B J Reece orchards. They have apple pie, apple bread, apple cider, etc. Boy, it all looked so good!
CINDY: Vindaloo is an Indian dish. Its actually more from the north of India. Its very hot, and more pepper taste than curry. Its often made with pork, since the north area where it comes from is where the Christian groups are. I used a jar of Vindaloo paste I found at the market when I was with Talitha. I threw in some of my poblano peppers too, which are pretty hot when they are small and green. Good stuff! If you like hot stuff that is....
I need to go wash collards. I got a 10Qt pressure cooker for the church today, and I am going to use it some and make sure its not defective! ;)

My Brother is on his way as of yesterday afternon. Calling me all along the way for updates on the score of the game...I have to say, BAMA deserved to win! The was a nail biter with the ending score being BAMA 6 THE VOLS 3 For the rest of the story....

GATOR....Did y'all not play yesterday? From the looks of it... NO ONE OF ANY IMPORTANCE MADE IT OFFTHE BUS!!! OOPS....SORRY MONET~!!
CINDY...I love UNCLE SAM'S..The fiber count is fantastic and it has flax seed in it. DON'T GET IT AT A HEALTH FOOD STORE....Check the grocery chain stores first..You will save yourself over $2 a box that way. WALMART SUPER STORES sells it for $1.79 a box! I don't get up there too often, so I'm paying about $2.50. Try it..you'll like it!
MONET...I didn't realize ANYONE knew where Elijay was...we used to have some family that lived there. Quaint little town...What are you going to do with all the apples you got? My suggestion would be FRIED PIES...OOPS...we can't have those can we? They sure would be good though! AND...OH...MY..GAWD...I haven't thought of PICKLED PEACHES in 30 yrs!

Thanks Bob, I will look for it next time at Walmart. I need something different from the Kashi I eat.
Not much going on this weekend. We did a bunch of running around yesterday looking for somethings for my mom. Picked myself up a couple pairs of shoes while I was out too !
Speaking of shopping reminds me of a observation I made. When I was at my highest weight I was not a very daring shopper. I mean you should of seen my closest. I had the same type of pants..all of them just different colors. All pull up elastic waist. Blouses were the same way same types of styles , different colors, of course these were all dark blues, browns, blacks. Nothing to make me stand out. My shoes... I have tons of shoes but like my clothes they were grouped in groups of types but they are all the same.. tennis shoes4-5 pair- same brand and style, dress boots for winter- same brand/style different colors ( brown, black, navy blue) dress shoes for work- same/brand/style different colors ( same as above). Probably the most exciting thing I had was my slippers . Now there I had some color and way different styles! :)
But since losing weight I have gotton a bit more daring. I now have zipped pants ( not one pull up elastic waist pant in my closest !) everyone of them a different style of jean or slack. My blouses/shirts are all different styles also and lots of bright colors ( still have a few blacks...lol gotta love black) . Now the shoes .. Ok no bright colors there but Ive finally broke out of that rut and am trying styles I would of never wore before.
Last weekend I bagged of three garbage bags of clothes to go to the good will and while looking at some of the older clothes that are too big now I would come across a top or pant that at the time I wore it I thought I looked really good on me and when I saw it now I couldnt believe I ever thought that ! LOL. So funny how our opinions change about ourselves.
My one goal though someday still is to have some sleeveless tops in my closest. I dont have a one. I still hate my arms too much for that. Maybe someday.
Guess I better get busy around here. I slept later than normal today and its almost 8 am.
Have a great Sunday !

Good Morning! er, oops...Good afternoon! I slept late, and have been just chilling. I chatted with Laura's boyfriend while he waited for her to get ready to go to his cousin's wedding with him. She was in a bad mood, so I hope she gets over it. He is such a nice boy...and she gets so irritable... ;)
Not much going on here. Yesterday, my neighbor and her daughter came over to draw for a while. I went to Harry's and was ticked that they were out of ww pie crusts! I wanted to get a bunch to make pies with, and now it looks like I may have to make my own! Horrors! I know my recipe is good, but gosh, the frozen ones are SO easy! :)
BOB: Um, I hate to break this to you, but you made a mistake there. Georgia did pull off the win against Arkansas, even though it was a lot closer than it should have been due to Shockley's injury. The Dawgs remain one of about five unbeaten teams in the country... but with Shockley possibly out against the handbags, who knows?
CINDY: I have a closet full of dark blues, and black. I used to love wearing colors, but since my surgery, I have gone almost totally with black. I think your clothing can be a reflection of your mood, and I think mine has not been too upbeat since the surgery.... The house on the other hand, is a riot of color. I have red sofas, with cobalt blue and bright yellow pillows, light blue walls, and a too bright yellow kitchen! :)
Ok, off to clean the kitchen! I cooked collards yesterday in the 10qt pressure cooker I bought for the church kitchen. I had to make sure it worked ok! ;) The collards turned out yummy! I think I need a 10qt myself. My next experiment with it is to see how much rice I can cook in it at once!

TALITHA: If you read this, I got your message! Thanks! I will try and call Fillise today and see what she says. Would you be willing to meet at Harry's? It would be easy for me, if its Tuesday, and also very easy for Susan who will be coming down 85.

hey! It's a cool morning here, even cooler than what it's been! We went to the bonfire/weinie roast last night and were very thankful for the fire! I was good and had my dogs on ww buns. A few chips and 1 marshmallow. You can't have a fire and no roasted marshmallow. Right? ;)
Cindy- we have had the Uncle Sam cereal before and believe it or not, it reminds my daughter and me of "Sugar bear" or super golden crisps. It has a good sweet flavor even if you don't add any spenda or anything.
Bob- My husband is a sales manager at Pepsi in Ellijay. We live about 30-35 miles south of there in a little town called Ball Ground.
Hope every one has a great day! :D

BOB--I did a double take when I saw the UGA/Arky score you posted. Yep, Monet is right. The mutts actually won that game. And they did lose their QB to a pulled MCL, and it's iffy if he will play against the suitca. . ., er, the Gators next Saturday at the BOCPITW. ;) I still don't think the curs have anything to worry about. We have NO offense! Looks like the Vols are in that same boat--no offense. Heck, I worry about Darth Visor's team beating us. At least they have an offense, and the Ole Ball Coach comes up with some masterful plans.
How is your cold? Better I hope.

I just got in from church. We went to Waffle House for a going away dinner with a young man who has joined the army and leaves tomorrow. I got two eggs, scrambled, and hash browns! :o I drank decaf coffee.
I am hoping to hear from Fillise about meeting up with her. I will try to call her tomorrow I guess. I was hoping she would drive through on Monday since I teach on Tuesdays, and it will curtail our time together....but I will take what I can get, as I love seeing her! Talitha will try and meet us too.
I am predicting MMM will not be a good one for me. I seem to have had a hard time sticking to my five rules. The one that has given me the most trouble lately is the not eating in between meals. Just this little practice makes a big difference for me. I am hoping the long walk today will at least keep me from a gain... Its time for me to buckle down and get back on track now though.
