Hi Guys!

I have 70 pounds to shed and in addition to weight training, I would like to do cardio. My question is .... I don't own a tredmill and won't buy one until I can save for it instead of charging it, so I am looking for another effective way to do cardio. I know..."you can use the sidewalk" BUT...in the mornings here it's really dark and then time for work and in the evenings, it's soccer, gymnastics w/the kids 5 days a week so the evenings are out.

Do you guys know of a great way to get the heart to pumping say...in my garage in the mornings so that I can be inside and safe rather than walking alone in the dark?

I have heard about Leslie Sansone's Walk Away The Pounds but don't quite understand how effective that would be. Anyone here use it? I tried walking in place one mornign but was so extremly bored, I stopped after 5 minutes.

Thanks for the advice!

-Sandy

Hi Sandy, you can do it indoors or out. You can do it on a treadmill, an exercise bicycle, marching or walking place with Leslie Sansone or George Foreman, dancing, or even waving your arms around like an orchestra conductor for 20 minutes a day. (I read today that conductors have extremely strong hearts because of all their upper body movement).

I would suggest that you check out some dvds or videos from your library so you can get an idea of different cardio/aerobic workouts. Another idea is to go to collagevideo.com where you can see video snippets of the different ones they sell.

I've never tried the Walk Away the Pounds videos, but I know that they're HARD. I post on the Weight Watchers boards and there are fitness fanatics (who weigh less than 120 pounds and work out like a few hours a day) who use them. It's not just walking in place. You jog, you do weights and you also do other resistance exercises. I would recommend also checking out ebay. You can get videos for cheap there.
