Support Groups - WEEK AT A TIME CHALLENGE #16 - Take one on!

The object of this thread is to take on at least one challenge related to your weight loss goals for 7 days straight. Choose whatever inspires you - a certain amount of water intake, no sugar, 30 minute walks, etc.

I will award accolades for each day you maintain your goal(s), and 7 day winner awards and pounds down at the end of the week. We will begin each challenge on Monday - you can choose a new challenge or repeat any challenge for extra mileage. If you would like to stretch yourself, take on more than one challenge.

We will support each other keeping in mind to stay focussed on our successes and/or challenges of the day and week related to our weight loss. There are plenty of threads where a lot of time is spent on personal stories, so let's try to keep that to a minimum.

All that we have is right now.

Hi! Everybody. Hello Casper5AXTSU76 yes I did put lime in my water with 2 pouches of splenda drank them felt good. But it was only 2 glasses rest I drank plain water.
Hi! mscat816 I appreciate the wisdomy words, they r true but its really hard to appreciate myself because as soon as I see myself going down the scale I start eating more ( I fail to know the reason) I have to get over my bad habbit. Today I did 40 mins ex Abs and ARMS AND CHEST had my Breakfast of Smart Start cereal and egg white. Now good to go.........

Hi! I'd like to join this club! My hardest thing is having a healthy lunch because I'm running between campuses and doing errands. I end up eating fast food more often that I like. My goal for this week is to eat a healthy lunch (at home or packed) every day. One day down already, as I type I'm having a sliced apple dipped in a nonfat yogurt/low fat peanut butter dip.

Ladies let's get going and start this week out right. Please re-read the focus of the thread posted at the start. Then let's all FOCUS - Follow One Course Until Successful- with whatever goals/actions are neccessary to bring us closer to living at healthy weights. First, let us all make certain we declare our action goal(s) for the week by Monday evening. Second, lets report daily when we meet our goals so we can support one another's successes (and challenges). If we post with these two foci in place - posting can be very easy and quick for those of us who don't have a lot of time. Please do not feel obligated to respond to everyone every time you post - as the hostess of the thread that is my responsibility - and I pledge to do a better job!

So let's start out the week with last week's leaders.

Sandy :cp: for 1 goal day complete! Whatever your goal is for this week we are here to help you meet with it velocity!

Casper :cp: :cp: :cp: for 3 days of being OP and :cb: :cb: :cb: for 3lbs down!

Me :cp: :cp: :cp: :cp: :cp: for 5 days of goals met! Next week's goal the same - 20 minutes of exercise a day plus 48 oz of water min. a day for the week!

FishWoman :cp: :cp: :cp: :cp: :cp: :cp: for 6 days of goals met! :goodluck: on your no alcohol goal for the week!

carla :cp: :cp: :cp: :cp: :cp: :cp: :cp: for 7 days of goals met - no fast food! :bravo: We are happy that your surgery went well.

SweetKisses - Let us know what your goal is for the week!

And Stacy  welcome to the group. Great goal for the week - I may join you and add that healthy lunch to my goals!

I will re-join the Challenge this week, with the exception of Friday, October 14, when I will be going to the opening of the North Carolina State Fair, which is SIN CITY  food-wise! Quite simply, the food is a huge part of why we go .... usually twice! :D The other six days, including today, I will stay at 1400 calories or less, with NO WINE! That is my pledge ... I will also try to exercise every day, but will not pledge that.

Carla, glad you are through your surgery! I'm sure you're still quite beautiful, eggplant coloring and all! :D

Welcome, Stacy! Happy to have you ... :)

Have a good week, ladies, and good luck with your Challenges! :grouphug:

Hi sandybhat!! So, you did put lime in your water with 2 pouches of splenda! Felt good, huh? Yeah! It's OK if it was only 2 glasses and the rest was plain - at least you drank your water! Doesn't mscat have the most wisdomly words! She's great! I start eating more when I get upset or when I'm depressed - did that today, after I met my OP goal (for yesterday's daily recipes). The kids, my DH and the kitchen renovation are getting to me. Congrats on your 40 mins ex Abs and ARMS AND CHEST! Your breakfast sounds good.

Hi stacylambert!!

Hi mscat!! I finished my OP today (yesteray's daily recipes) but then I binged a little. At least it was on healty stuff. Some English muffins with canola margarine and I started to eat an orange, but it was molded on the inside! Never seen that before - and I just bought it! :(

Thanks for my :cp: :cp: :cp: for 3 days of being OP and my :cb: :cb: :cb: for my 3lbs down!

My calories were 1,530, but that's because I can't cook yet in the kitchen, as you know - Turkey Pot Pie. I did have 3 veggies with my daily recipe! Yeah!

Hi Bonnie!! Have a good time at the NC State Fair. I used to live in NC - Goldsboro. Good luck on your 1400 calories a day and good luck with your NO WINE! Also, hope you get some exercise in!

You have a good week too! And good luck with your challenges!

hugs,

I'm a little upset, right know. They just took my neighbor to the hospital by ambulance - she is old and was having chest pains. Called My DH at work (as instructed) Hope she's OK. The last elderly neighbor that left in an ambulance didn't come back.....Please keep her in your prayers.

Casper

P.S. I'm drinking water! Yeah!

Can you enlighten me on this??? :chin:whether it is beneficial to do Abs ex everyday?? will be grateful for yr advise.

Good morning ladies :coffee2:

Hope you're all having a good day. Happy to report that I made my goal Monday, went to bed having stayed in the 1400 calorie range with no wine. I've been overdoing it with the food for awhile so I felt a little "empty" at bedtime but did it! :D So now I am 10 pounds over the 189 that I'd achieved in June. Okay, one pound down at a time! :p

Sandy, I do weight machine exercise twice, occasionally three times (not lately) a week, per the YMCA trainer's advice. So as to your Ab routine, I would let those muscles rest a day in between. It's good to do aerobic exercise every day when you're trying to burn calories to lose weight. Every little bit of moving helps! :)

Have a good day, ladies! :cheer: for us all!

Hi everyone! It has been a busy day, but at least i was able to go to the gym and work out. I lifted weights for 20 minutes :strong: and ran 2 miles :tread:

So. About that no-alcohol challenge. I blew that on day one :o and now i have an open bottle of wine that i will *have* to finish. ;) I got home from a 12 hour day at work last night and didn't even think about my challenge. I just opened a bottle of wine, had a glass, and went to bed.

I may be sitting this week out. I will pop in to say hello, and start fresh next week with a new challenge.

Good evening, ladies! :flow2:

Hope you have all had a good day. Just reporting in to say that I have stayed true to my pledge for the second day in a row. I stayed within the 1400 calorie range, did not have any wine AND .... did a 50 minute walk, as well as an hour and 10 minutes of biking and weight room!!! WHEW!!! Not sure I could do it anymore .... :^: Now I must keep it up!

Hope you're all doing well, and that your Challenges are going as planned... :)

Hi sandybhat!! You gave me my bravos too soon.......... :( I just weighed myself and I put the 3 lb.s back on again! I think that going to church on Sunday and not going out to the store to get my food for my daily recipes to keep me OP Sunday, yesterday and today (I spent the day with my mother) is the cause.

Oh well, thanks for the :bravo: :bravo: :bravo: anyway. At least I did it and I can do it again! Tomorrow morning, as soon as I get the kids off to school, and my DH comes home from work, I'm off to Shopper's to get my food for the day!

I went out to VA (McLean) to my mom's to go shopping today. I have no clothes that fit, much less to wear to church. I got 2 outfits. I think I look like a big tub of lard in both of them, but everything I got was on sale!! :D I got a tweed jacket, with a green top and blue silk pants at Talbot's. My husband likes tweed, and surprisingly liked the jacket. Then I got a burgandy and gold sleeveless top with a burgandy and gold crocheted top that ties in the front with a burgandy teired long chiffon skirt at Hecht's. My husband asked me was I Carmen Estarvah. :o I'm not really crazy about either one of them, but then I don't even like to look at my self in the mirror! Got to lose this butt and pregnant-looking stomach! I've got to start exercising with my neighbor across the street! She has all sorts of equipment!

Anyway getting back to the good stuff, now I have to go hat shopping! I love hats and I wear hats to church. I also have to go shoe shopping. Yeah!

Good evening Bonnie :coffee2:

Even though I put my 3 lbs. back on and have been kinda off my OP, I had a good day. Anytime I go shopping with my mother and spend money I have a good day! ;) Congrats on making your goal Monday!

Have a good evening!

Hi FishWoman!!

Glad you got to go to the gym and worked out! :strong: :tread:

Sorry about your no-alcohol challenge......... :nono:

I love wine and I miss SKYY Blue, Don't sit this week out! Don't wait until next week to start fresh. Be like me! I'm going to start fresh tomorrow! Why don't you think about it and start fresh tomorrow too!

Just checking in to say hi this morning, ladies, and to note that my weight is finally dropping a bit more. Back to 197 now !!! Praise the Weight-Loss Gods! :-) I've gone to bed feeling "hollow" the last two nights, even on 1400 calories. But I have to get used to that feeling again .... it means I'm losing these re-gained pounds.

Tonight I intend to be in my water aerobics class. When I was losing the 45 pounds, I was exercising at least five times a week ... must get back to that! It makes such a difference in your body shape, especially in the mid-section as you get older, if you're active most of the time.

Have a good day, girls! I'm pulling for you all!

Congrats on your 2nd day down! Today I had a Slimfast Optima French Vanilla Shake and an English muffin with canola-based, trans-fat free margarine. AND I lost some of my weight!

You're welcome for the :welcome:

Just checking in to say hi back this morning, Bonnie, and to note that my weight came back down a little bit this morning. Back to 170.5 now! Yes, praise the Weight-Loss Gods! :) I'm supposed to be on 1300 calories, but until the kitchen gets finished, I'm probably going to stay high of that. (TV diners vs.cooking dinner).

I MUST START TO EXCERCISE! So far, today, I've walked 1211 steps!

Hi ladies, just a quiet hello from a temporary lurker... I'll get back to posting and challenging and all next week when my nose is no longer out of joint (joke intended - tomorrow the bandages come off and I get to BLOW MY NOSE at last). The little splint fell off last night, and I've whacked the poor tender proboscis I don't know how many times since. Could it be the surgeon actually made it longer? Is that why I keep bumping it? No extension was required, it's not one of those cute button jobs that can't get attention... Maybe the guy is a sadist? But I digress.

Bonnie, any news of your brother?

Mscat, my new Gazelle finally arrived today, and I think it will be part of my next week's challenge. Once I put it together, of course.

Keep on challenging!

Hey everybody .... :) A "sinner" has arrived tonight! After two days of being really good, I ate out today, got my calories too high, and blew my Challenge completely !!!!!!!!! :( Don't you hate when you do that! :tantrum:

On the bright side, I discovered a new restaurant chain, very good, "On The Border." Excellent warm baked corn chips, fresh salsa, and Margaritas to die for (just had a sip of DH's mango one... :p )! I've got this problem... if I eat in a restaurant and don't know EXACTLY how many calories I ate, then the rest of the day I'm out of control!!! Does anybody else do that?????????????? :?:

Carla, things are about the same with my brother. The doctors are just trying to get him to eat, and to keep him comfortable. I'm printing out some family pictures to put in a card to mail to him tomorrow. You wish so much that you could change things, you know? :( Thanks for asking!

Have a good day tomorrow, ladies! Let's all do it! :cheer:

Hi Ladies! I have been catching up on all the posts and all of you are doing an awesome job of keeping up with your challenges. It makes me feel so inspired and determined not to let you down.

Tuesday I didn't get my workout in - but I did workout Monday and Wednesday :cb: :cb:

1of3wishes :welcome2: to our group. We are committed to supporting you to be in action! What a great goal - let us know how many days you are committing to this week and we will cheer you on.

Bonnie :cp: :cp: for 2 days of goals! And as far as falling off the wagon - You know we ALL do that. Just get back on and don't beat yourself up! Congrats on your weight loss :woo: :woo: Prayers and hugs for you - I am sure your brother will appreciate those photos.

carla - I am so jealous over your gazelle. I want one but my DH will beat me ;) if I buy another piece of exercise equipment to collect dust. I believe I would really use that one. Looking forward to hearing how your doing with your new toy next week. Glad you are feeling better. Thank you so much for your message - I tried to pm you back but your mailbox was full.

stacy :cp: :cp: :cp: for 3 days of goal making. You are an awesome addition to our group! You put me to shame. You are leading the pack in getting the next 7 day award.

Fishwoman - Don't worry about the one day - just shoot for whatever you can for the rest of the week. I missed a day of exercise but I am going to strive for at least 5 this week - any days you make your goal this week is better than not striving to acheive any. Think of goal achievement as a muscle - exercise and stretch it whenever you can and it will become stronger and easier to maintain!

Thinking about Bonnie's dilemma which I am sure we all face - consider the following:

Whenever we are challenged by a special meal occasion we llisten to that little voice in our heads that says "Oh well, I blew it for the day." When that happens we have 2 choices. The first is to accept that it happened, leave it where it belongs (in the past) and move on. The second is to remember that we have the opportunity to recreate our future "right now". So what you ate at lunch is what you ate at lunch. That has nothing to do with the "right now" moment When you have to eat again. Because every moment in life you have the opporturnity to do make a different choice "right now." Not preaching - because I do it too. Just consider a new way of saying "thanks for sharing" to that little voice in your head and not allowing that voice to dictate your decisions for the rest of the day. You are in control of what you do "right now" - not the voice in your head, or the meal that is past!

Have a great Thursday everyone!

I manage to get back down to 169.5! Yeah! And I walked ~2589 steps, just here around the house!

My DH has already gotten me offP today - he went to McDonald's for breakfast - got me an egg McMuffin......... Oh well, it's dreary and drizzly again, today so I might not even go out to get my daily recipes food. We'll see.

Don't worry Caspar, just my warped sense of humour at work. Fifty lashes with a wet noodle - to quote Ann Landers. Sometimes I just babble senselessly. Babble, babble.

Mscat, does your husband not realize that the Gazelle makes an EXCELLENT clothes rack? I mean, what is he thinking? (Of course mine won't be a fully functional rack until I take it back apart and put it together right, but then there you go.) I'm not sure yet where it will live. I've been on a "get rid of furniture" kick for a while, which does free up space but leads to a proliferation of piles and boxes of all the things that have lost their home. But I just had a huge "window" cut in the wall between my office/guest bedroom and my living room, so maybe it can go in my office so I can watch tv thru the hole? It's sad - I've gotten very good at the destructive phase of renos, but am a total failure at the rebuild. Also too broke to just get it all done. Even the new hole is just roughed in - it needs some electrical work and of course the electrician isn't calling back. As I often shriek at work, "Kill me now!"

Fifty minutes left in this birthday day. Time for a little more wine. (Says the resident lush.) :hat:
Boy, will I pay for this party tomorrow! :headache:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CARLA!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And I wish you many many more!

Ladies, I'm a sad case! :o Really .... after my blowing my Challenge yesterday, my friend calls me with two tickets to the NC State/Clemson football game this evening, telecast on ESPN, the whole nine yards! :D How could I turn that down, a $40 ticket???????? So of course, I ate way too much, as one does on these occasions! Tomorrow is the State Fair .... :dizzy: But I did walk MILES (I swear) by the time we got into the stadium, then I walked UP to the seats FOUR times, so I exercised some of it off. (Of course, exercise was not my Challenge ... :D )

Bonnie - what a great experience! Don't worry about the indulging - we will consider the "exercise" as your "bonus" goal.

I did good even on the weekend! I had a peanut butter sandwich (on whole wheat which I hate) and a banana.

 Hi ladies

What beautiful weather we are having here in Central North Carolina! Hope your weather is nice where you are, too.

This past week, I only stuck to my Challenge two days .... not nearly what I'd meant to do. :( I did have a grand time at the Fair and the ballgame, but it does throw you off your plan on other days (well, at least me) when you allow yourself to pig out on those occasions. The thing is: the food is why I enjoy doing those things. :o  :dizzy: I know that's terrible, but if I'm honest, that's the attraction. Now I do enjoy the football, but food at intermission makes it more fun! :D

Sandybhat, I had to be careful of what I ate and drank and did for several days after a tooth extraction last year. Never realized how much they restrict you after you've had one of those big upper molars extracted ... :( By the way, :balloons: to you for those three pounds! Way to go, lady! :flow1: :flow1: :flow1:

Carla, hope you're doing well with your *schnoz* post-op! :D

Have a good Sunday, all! See you on the new thread tomorrow ... I intend to be more successful next week!

Hi Ladies - I must confess I have not been on the treadmill today :fr: But the evening is not over. As soon as I am finished working on some stuff for my Toastmasters meeting, I will get on that treadmill before the night is over!

Ok - now that is done - how are all of you? I want to know if anyone is getting results from their goals. I am not - at first it was a plateau but now I am actually gaining weight. :yikes: So starting this evening - I am stretching my goals and taking my commitment up a notch.

For most of us there are 4 major components to successful weight loss - eating right, water intake, regular exercise and rest (that is the one many of us forget about). Personally, I will not get consistent results if I only do one thing. I can stay on an eating plan and lose weight initially but after a while I am going to hit the dreaded plateau. The same goes for drinking water or exercising. I won't even talk about sleep - I am just plain lazy when it comes to working on that commitment. So I am taking on 2 goals this week. Continuing to go for 7 days of exercise and 48 oz min. of water a day.

What are you going to take on to stretch your results?

Sweetkisses :cheer: for making your goals on Saturday!

Stacy - :cheer: for goals made yesterday. BTW I sympathize with you. Hope you read my post on your
salon story.

Sandy :cb: :cb: :cb: for your 3lbs! Hope you are feeling better and your mouth is healing.

Bonnie :cheer: :cheer: for 2 days of goals met this week.

Have a great evening ladies.
