Support Groups - Week At A Time Challenge #15 - Please Join Us!

10-03-2005, 07:19 PM
The object of this thread is to take on at least one challenge related to your weight loss goals for 7 days straight. Choose whatever inspires you - a certain amount of water intake, no sugar, 30 minute walks, etc.

I will award accolades for each day you maintain your goal(s), and 7 day winner awards and pounds down at the end of the week. We will begin each challenge on Monday - you can choose a new challenge or repeat any challenge for extra mileage. If you would like to stretch yourself, take on more than one challenge.

We will support each other keeping in mind to stay focussed on our successes and/or challenges of the day and week related to our weight loss. There are plenty of threads where a lot of time is spent on personal stories, so let's try to keep that to a minimum.

All that we have is right now.
Yesterday is gone, Tomorrow is not promised, and Someday is not a day of the week!

BJ  welcome to our little group - your goals sound fabulous - "I want commit to using my bowflex 3 times this week (30 min) and taking 2- 30 min cardio walks." Just let us know each day you meet your goal(s). I give kudos for each day you report and tally them at the end of the week.

10-04-2005, 12:55 AM
Im new to this little group, but it seems a lot easier to take a hold of one week at a time instead of looking at a large amont of time(eg. a year, etc.).

My goals for this week are:
- Water, water, water.. no drinks other than water
- Workout for at least 30-45 minutes everyday

10-04-2005, 01:03 PM
Okay, this week's goal is to get at least 45 minutes of activity each day.

Monday I took a 45 minute total body conditioning class.

I haven't exercised yet today, but it is only noon, so i have plenty of time.

I was going to do the 5 servings goal again, but i already messed that up yesterday with only 4 servings of veggies. :(

10-04-2005, 02:11 PM
Hi all. I haven't been posting for various reasons, but I've been lurking. And even more important, I actually did stay with my challenge all week last week! Breakfast every day, and at least one "proper" meal every day. I'd choose the came challenge this week again, but already didn't have a proper meal yesterday. So this week's challenge is no fast food. I almost stopped at a Macdo's or Wendy's yesterday, but managed to hang tight.

On Friday I have my rhinoplasty, so I don't really expect I'll be eating properly for a few days after, Then again, nice creamy milkshakes may be just what I need... Once I fully recover from that, it'll be time to get on an exercise challenge at last. UPS has my new Gazelle waiting to be delivered to me, so maybe that will be the toy of choice. Spinning classes start in November, so I really should get out on the bike a bit to get my butt ready for those 90 minute classes...

Gotta go. ;)

10-05-2005, 11:06 AM
I finished day 2! I did 45 minutes on my elliptical yesterday evening.

Okay - Day 3 is out of the way - 45 minutes on the elliptical at the gym over lunch.

Hi mscat! It's okay that it took you so long to post today. You are tryuly a busy lady! Thanks for including me in last week's leaders! Thanks for the drumroll! Thanks for the :cp: and the :cb: :cb: for my 2 lbs. down! I'm so excited!

Hi SweetKisses! Welcome! Good luck on your goals for this week!

Hi FishWoman! Good luck on this week's goal! Congrats on Monday's 45 total body conditioning! Sorry about your 4 sevings of veggies. :( On the bright side, you hade 4 more servings than I did! :D

Hi Carla! Don't feel bad. I didn't post yesterday for various reasons. What do you mean that you've been lurking? :?: Congrats on staying with your challenge all week last week! I'm out of breakfast food (the kitchen renovation) and my husband went shopping today.........nothing for me calorie wise..... :( Good luck on your Friday rhinoplasty! My deviated septum surgery didn't affect my eating. Hope that yours doesn't either. What kind of nice, cramy milkshakes are you thinking of? :s: What's a Gazelle? What's a Spinning class?

Back to you, Fishwoman! Congrats on day 2 and day 3! What's an elliptical? :?:

Hi sandybhat! Sorry to hear that you got lost and could not find challenge no #14. Glad that you found us and that we were able to raise your spirits! :grouphug: Don't feel like a :moo: and most of all don't hate yourself! I binge too. Glad you are with us! I just got kudos from mscat, but at this moment I am  because after a day of being able to completely functioning, an incident with my kids and the neighborhood kids and 1 adult has me  I needed something to calm my nerves. So I guess that my 730 calories is going out the window while I am sipping on this white zifindel..... :( I just weighed my self, and I'm at 170 lbs. Guess I haven't done too much damage yet......... :s: Good Luck on your water goal for this week!

10-06-2005, 08:23 AM
I am extremely busy - but will check in later.

10-06-2005, 10:22 AM
Thanks Casper5AXTSU76 for your sweet words I did my water goal yesterday today I am planning on putting some lime in half of my water intake lets see how it goes.

SweetKisses03 your goals look good:cheer:............ keep going:cheer:

carla49 good luck :cp::cp:with your rhinoplasty( can I ask what is it?) and you really have a cool machine waiting for you.

cheers to you :cool::cp::cp::cp:all ladies!

10-06-2005, 12:08 PM
Caspar - I think ellipticals are also called cross-trainers. They are not quite a stair-stepper and not quite a treadmill. Your legs move more in a running/striding motion than a stepping motion. I have attached a picture of the kind they use at my gym. The one i have a home is a cheap-brand, and i have used the heck out of it.

I haven't worked out yet today, but plan on lifting weights and doing a little cardio. I will re-post once i have met today's challenge!

10-06-2005, 12:33 PM
Caspar, from what I'm told a Gazelle is what you'd get if you bred a nordic track ski machine with an elliptical. Also called a glider. Non-electric and quiet. Spinning is group indoor cycling, which is demanding and a lot of fun.

Sandybhat, a rhinoplasty is a nose job. Mine is not for aesthetic reasons (although god knows there's PLENTY of room for improvement, if you get my drift... ). I have a badly deviated septum and really want to be able to breathe out of both nostrils. I'm actually counting on the surgery to stop me from eating for a few days.

10-06-2005, 04:17 PM
Day 4 completed! I worked out for a total of 50 minutes - 20 minutes of weight-lifting; 5 hellishly long minutes of abs; and 25 minutes on the elliptical.

10-06-2005, 11:32 PM
Hi mscat! You sure are an extremely busy lady! Looking forward to your checking in later.

Hi sandybhat! You're welcome for the sweet words. Congrats on your water goal yesterday. Did you put the lime in half of your water intake today?

Hi FishWoman! Thanks for the explantion of the elliptical. How'd you do that attachment? I don't belong to a gym. My weight doesn't bother my husband, therefore, it isn't in the budget......... :( We used to have a treadmill :tread: but when we moved back into his house in '96, he got rid of it! :( I didn't need it at the time, but I sure do need it now! We have a rower, but it's standing up against the back door in the basement. We don't have room to set it up, but I think that I'm going to start nagging him about making room to set it up. My Mom has some sort of contraption that she said I could have, and I'm going to take her up on it! :D

Hope that you got a chance to work out today. Did you get a chance to lift weights :barbell: :wl: and do a little cardio. I hate cardio. I've gotten so out of shape that I can't really keep up! :(

I see that you reposted so I guess that that means that you met today's challenge! :cheer: Sounds like you had a really good workout! :cp:

Hi Carla! Thanks for the info about the Gazelle and spinning.

I hope that your deviated septum surgery goes as well as mine did. I still can't breathe out of both nostrils (sinus) and the surgery didn't affect my eating.....

I gained 1 1/2 lbs. today :( but I did a lot of walking. I walked my dd to school. I spent most of the rest of the day with my mom - we went to the mall and boy did we get in a lot of walking! I've ordered a pedometer, and have Gone on the Simfast website to try to get control of things. Tomorrow's payday, so I plan to go to the store and get what I need for my daily recipes. :D

I really need to get my hair done, but I running out of time! :fr:

10-07-2005, 12:25 AM
Hi Ladies - Well it is late Thursday evening and I finally am making the time to post. I won't say finding time to post - like I don't believe in saying "I don't have time to exercise" or "eat right." We are always busy. We were busy yesterday, we were busy today, and we will be busy tomorrow. However, we "make" time for whatever is important to us - like watching a favorite program, going to the movies or attending a funeral or a wedding. I challenge all of us to be deliberately in action about "making the time, taking the time" to do what is important to us about our weight loss goals.

SweetKisses  welcome to our group. I hope that your time with us will prove fun and profitable! Think of this as eating an elephant one bite at a time! Great goals - let us know how you are doing each day.

Fishwoman :cheer: :cheer::cheer: :cheer:for Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday!

Carla :cheer: for Monday's goals. A big :grouphug: from us -we are thinking of you and lifting you up to a successful surgery!

Sandy :cheer: for Wednesday's goals! I know you were down the other day but don't hate - appreciate yourself as we all do! Life is too short to hate yourself for being human. This is only as tough as we make it. What ever you did yesterday, this morning, even a minute ago is in the past - it's gone and there is nothing you can do to change it so beating yourself up about is pointless. What counts is what you do about it right now. . . and then right now. . . and then right now. Get it? All you have is now to make a difference in your life. The past is gone, you can't make a difference in there anymore. You CAN make a difference right now! Love yourself and your ability to make a difference in your weight loss goals in this moment. You are awesome and we appreciate your presence and willingness to share yourself with us. We love you :grouphug: Also you change your weight tracker whenever you want to - I only change mine on weigh-in day (monday) if I have a change!

All that we have is right now.
Yesterday is gone, Tomorrow is not promised, and Someday is not a day of the week!

10-07-2005, 01:51 PM
Good afternoon Ladies,

It's 12:35 PM and I'm just getting in from getting the kids off to school, my DH off to jury duty, and going to the grocery store to get what I needed for my first day of my challenge to follow my first Slimfast daily recipes!

For "braekfast", I had 1 Slim Fast Optima Meal Bar, ~8 fluid ounces of fat free milk and 1 fresh orange! :cp:

So far, I've had 310 calories, not counting the orange. I'll be eating 6 times today.

It's raining here in DC and I do mean raining! :rain: It's one of those days that makes me not want to do anything. I have washed one load of clothes for my son, but I need to run a 2nd rinse for the fabric softener (our dispenser not not automatically dispense anymore.)

Depending on how long I stay on the computer I will either contiue to wash or I'll go across the street to see if I can excercise with my neighbor. I have an invitaiton for her anyway.

Will check in later, after my first snack. :D

10-07-2005, 02:51 PM
Good afternoon everyone! As Caspar noted, it is pouring rain. I had a horrible night's sleep last night. The dogs woke me up at 2:30 a.m. and then the rain kept me up until 5:30 a.m. So i decided to take a personal day and stay home. I went and got a mani/pedi and now that my toenails are dry I am posting to let you all know that in 1 hour i will have met day 5 of the week-long challenge with an hour-long ballet workout.

I hope everyone has a great weekend! It is supposed to rain here all day today and tomorrow. I was supposed to go hiking with my sister and niece on Sunday, but they don't want to hike in the mud.

10-07-2005, 08:12 PM
Good evening everyone! Well, as Fishwoman well knows, it is still pouring rain! :rain: How about it FishWoman - even though they said that we needed rain, have you had enough rain yet? Sorry to hear that you had a horrible night's sleep. I usually wake up 50 million times, during the night, but I didn't wake up too often, last night. :D I didn't notice the rain last usually pings on the air conditioner in the window, but i didn't hear anything. Did you enjoy your personal day? I can't remember the last time I've had a mani/pedi - well actually I can remember it but I can't remember how long ago it was! So, pretty toenailed lady, Congrats on meeting day 5 of your week-long challenge. Ballet huh? I took dance when I was growing up! Now, my dd is following in my footsteps and taking ballet and tap.

I said earlier that I'd check in after my 1st snack. Well, I had beets for my snack, and I just finished my "lunch". I had another Slim Fast Optima Meal Bar and a Cottage Cheese Salad (lettuce, peach half and cottage cheese). So far I've had 670 calories. And I've had 2 fruits and 1 veggie! :D Guess I'll check back later, if I'm still online, after my 2nd snack.

I don't know about our weekend.........My DH has a football game to coach first thing in the morning, but I don't know, with all this rain! The kids have ballet and tap (mds only has tap) and after that I need to take him to the library to get a book on Hispanics for a book reort, since it's National Hispanic Month. He has an outstanding book that he needs to return, but I don't know where it is , so I may have to use my library card! :o My DD has homework this long weekend too. She's already done her math worksheet, and is now reading the first 4 chapters of a book she has to do a book report on .

Hope it clears up for you and your sister and niece, but I guess that you're right - who wants to go hiking in the mud?! I used to go hiking with my dad when I was growing up. We both have hiking staffs with decals on the milestones we got from the park service.

10-07-2005, 09:47 PM
Well, I'm back again! I've had my 2nd snack - Vegertable Juice. And of course I had a V-8! I just love it Was born and raised on it. Wish I could have more that 6 ounces!

See you after dinner!

10-08-2005, 03:16 AM
Hope everyone had a great Friday - BTW where is everybody???

Had a rough day - did not meet a commitment I made to someone and I am out of integrity. I did get in my workout but missed Thursday's workout :( . May do a double on Saturday or Sunday to make up. Still falling short on that water but as carla49 says "tomorrow is another day."

Kudos to

casper :cheer: for a great OP (on program) day (I am assuming that was your goal)! And a big :cb: for starting "today" (Friday) rather than waiting till next week. You are taking advantage of the "the time is right now" philosophy.

I am following casper's example and not waiting till Monday to start over with water! We all should take on something we have not accomplished this week starting Saturday. After all 2 days meeting a goal this week is better than none at all.

Hope to see you all check in Saturday!

10-08-2005, 05:41 PM
I had a great Friday! - BTW, I'm with mscat - where is everybody??? :?:

mscat - Thanks for the kudos! :D I guess that I need to finish filling in my OP day.

Since we are in the middle of our kitchen renovation and still have no stove, I could not prepare my SlimFast dinner. I was supposed to have Spinach Pita-Pizza, but instead, I had a Banquet Chicken and Broccoli Pot Pie - 350 calories. For my 3rd snack I had a nectarine. I had counted ~1200+ calories, but when I plugged what I ate on the website, it said 1,310. So, with the pot pie I had 1660. A little high, bit I'm happy.

Today, after taking the kids to their dance classes, and after taking my ds to the library to get the book for the Hispanic book report, I went to get my food for my daily recipes. For breakfast, I had a Slimfast Optima shake, 1/2 English muffin, whole wheat with canola-based, trans-fat free margarine and 1 scrambled egg. Bet you all are wondering how I had a scrambled egg with the kitchen having no stove. Thank God for breakfast TV dinners! :D I ate the scrambled eggs and gave the bacon and hash browns to my dd.

It's still raining! :rain: I managed to make a pit-stop by sorority meeting while the kids were at dance class - hardly anyone was there. :rain:

Yeah! I got a :cheer: and a :cb: for starting on Friday. Well, Friday was payday, and if ever I'm going to spend some money, I do it on payday before my DH says that we have no money! But yes, I am taking advantage of "the time is right now" philosophy, I suppose..........

Yeah for you, mscat. Don't wait till Monday to start over with water! I have my water right here with me right now! :D I definitely agree that 2 days meeting a goal this week is better than none at all!

Well, I guess I'll check in after my first snack!

10-08-2005, 10:59 PM
Hi! Since last time I've had my first snack - cucumber slices. 1/3 cucmber, peeled and cut into slices with creamy ceasar dressing. Lunch was another SlimFast shake with Tuna & crackers - 2 ounces of albacore tuna, canned in water, 1 teaspoon low fat mayo, 1 teaspoon relish and 4 whole wheat crackers. See you after my 2nd snack!

10-09-2005, 11:36 AM
Hi:wave: everybody, I have just started the day with a cuppa Indian Tea, Now I am ready to stack my whole day of nutrition in different boxes (this is the :idea:I am planning) like piling all the food I am going to consume this day count their calories and eat them in small snack size portions. This is my plan for fighting the pounds this week. Lets see how it goes.:crossed:
c u all later.:halffull:

10-09-2005, 02:55 PM
Good afternoon Ladies!

I didn't get my workout in yesterday :tantrum: Got up too late and worked until midnight w/hubby on closet renovation. The work was not particularly physically strenuous as some of our other project days, so I am not counting it in place of my treadmill. That is ok - I made sure I got up and got my workout in this a.m. Only got in 32 oz water yesterday :( but working on my first 24 now and I am will complete 76 before the day is out!

I got on the scale and reported another loss but I am not claiming it until weigh-in day, Monday. I am keeping my fingers crossed!

Sandybhat - great idea! Hope your new plan works. Let us know!

Missing carla, Bonnie, Fishwoman, ceejay, SweetKisses, Debi - hope to hear from you soon!

10-09-2005, 05:02 PM
Hi sandybhat! I'm a tea person too! But what is Indian Tea? Good luck on the  you're planning. Let me know how it works out. :crossed:

Hi mscat! Sorry to hear that you didn't get your workout :workout: in yesterday. You got up late?! :yikes: :fr: :nono:  So you and your hubby are doing a closet renovation while my hubby and I are doing a kitchen renovation! cool! I think that you should count the work as your treadmill. :tread: Working with hubbies is a workout! :workout:  Glad to hear that you got up today and got your workout in this morning! :D Good luck on you first 24 oz.! :coach: 32 oz is better than 0 oz! :D

I got on the scale last night and I was 170.5. While getting ready for church this morning, I got on the scale, in the buff, and I was 169.5! :goodscale I'm claiming it! I'll take any lower number I can get! But I'm keeping my fingers crossed too! :crossed: :D

My 2nd snack, yesterday was a Sliced Tomato. - 1 whole tomato, fresh with 1 tablespoon of Italian, fat free salad dressing. I ate a turkey pot pie for dinner, but I didn't get in my 3rd snack, so since I went to church today for Homecoming, and ate small portions of the repast, I haven't been back OP yet. The next time I eat I'll start with my 3rd snack from yesterday - a Tossed Salad.

Will check back in after I eat it and have totals.

10-09-2005, 09:11 PM
Ok. I just finished "yesterday's" 3rd snack - Tossed Salad. My total caloric intake was 1,840. Still high, but I have to eat those TV dinners.........

See you later, after I eat my "breakfast."

10-09-2005, 11:02 PM
Breakfast - 1 waffle, frozen,whole grain, 1teaspoon margarine. canola-based, trans-fat free and one Slim-Fast shake.

10-09-2005, 11:52 PM
We seem to have a lot of people MIA. If this thread is no longer a source of inspiration or motivation for you, please feel free to pm me and let me know why.

Just as a reminder of the original intent of the thread - declare a goal or goals related to taking action toward losing weight and report your progress each day for a week at a time. We are to encourage and support each other as we continue to challenge ourselves to meet our goals each day. :grouphug:

I apologize for the days that I have not been timely in posting and recognizing your daily accomplishments and I am committed to be accountable to you every day from this point on. I am going to step up my support of each one of you in declaring and meeting your daily/weekly goals. :strong:

I have completed my exercise goal for the day :cheer: I hope all of you met some goal toward healthy living today and will share that with the rest of us here. Have a great evening.

10-10-2005, 01:16 AM
Hey Mscat, sorry if I've been MIA. I had my little surgery on my deviated septum on Friday, and before that I had been working which never leaves me in the mood to post. But I did actually succeed in my goal for this week: no fast food. Not that I ate particularly well, but...

There's nothing like a nose job to make me realize that I will never, ever, ever listen to the old siren song of cosmetic surgery. It's awful. I can't blow my nose for a week, and it's all stuffed up and sore. I have eggplant coloured "eye shadow" and "eyeliner", which is not too bad, but there's also the lovely puffy eggplant pouches under my eyes. Major luggage!

I haven't decided on a challenge yet for this week, but I really need to cut down on caffeine and diet soda. I may leave that at least until I get the splint off and can breathe better thru my nose. Right now I'm so thirsty all the time. I have no idea about my weight: I haven't gained, but may have lost as the painkillers are supposed to cause constipation, so I may be holding on to an extra pound or so.

I'll try to come up with a good challenge by tomorrow. Take care!

10-10-2005, 01:42 AM
I really slacked this week.. Its been a super stressful week.. everything that could go wrong in life pretty much did go wrong so nothing worked out as planned.. hopefully next week will be better

10-10-2005, 07:26 AM
Hi mscat!!

I just wanted to share that I have tried not to be MIA and that I think this thread is a great source of inspiration and motivation for me! :D

The kids have the day off from school for Columbus Day and my DH had the night off - he fell alseep on the couch last night, "looking " at football so if he is up by 7am, I plan to try to workout :workout: with the girl on Lifetime channel. That is if I can find room - the kitchen renovation -

Congrats on completing your exercise goal for the day! :cheer:

Hey Carla!! Good to see you back! How did your surgery go? Ho do you feel? Congrats on succeeding in your goal for the week: no fast food! That's great! With this kitchen renovation going on, my DH is bringing an awful lot of fast food into the house, but I just keep plugging along trying to stay OP with my SlimFast plan.

Remember that I shared with you that I had had surgery on my deviated septum? No, you cannot blow your nose for a week. Gross as it may sound, you have to "suck it up" and spit it out. I was lucky - I had no eggplant colored pouches under my eyes. Glad to hear that you have eggplant colored eye shadow and eyeliner. I'm considering selling Mary Kay again, part time, so if you need anything, pm me here and I'll try to see if I can help.........

Even if you don't decide to make it your challenge for the week, Cutting down on caffeine and diet soda is a great idea. My family has a history of fibrous tissue disease, and caffeine contributes to "lumpy" breasts. I stopped my intake in the early '80s.

Not that I need painkillers, I'd give anything to cause me constipation right now. I have diarrhea all the time and some times I don't make it to the bathroom in time. Ugh! I need to call my neuroGYN to make an appt. Hope I meet that goal this week.

Why are you thirrsty all the time. Drink some water if you can.

Hi Caryn!! Sorry to hear that you had a super stressful week. Not everything that could go wrong went wrong because you're still here and sharing with us! :) I hope next week will be better for you too.

I'm up, but I'm not hungry yet. Will be eating soon because it's time to take my meds. See you all later, after my snack.

10-10-2005, 09:16 AM
Hi!

Since it's Columbus Day, my DH slept on the couch last night, but he did get up in time for me to catch up with a little workout with Denise Austin on Lifetime! Yeah! I usually don't get a chance to do this, becuase at 7am I'm dragging the kids out of bed to get ready for school.

My goal for this week is to continue to stay OP with Slimfast daily recipes and my profile calls for 1300 calories. Also to keep a tall cup of water on hand to sip off of for my water intake.

Got to go. Time to take meds and eat a snack! :hun:

10-10-2005, 11:15 AM
Happy (?) Monday everyone! I see a lot of you are off today. Not my firm!

Let's see - I got my 45 minutes of exercise in on Sunday, but not saturday :(
It rained all day Saturday. My husband asked when i was planning on getting out of bed, and i told him when it stopped raining. Plus, i ate too much both saturday and sunday (over 2000 calories each day) so now i am angry at myself.

My challenge for this week is going to be to not have any alcohol all week. I usually have a glass or two of wine with dinner. So i am going to stop that for this week's challenge.

I am usually not able to get online during the weekend. Unfortunately, that is when i need the most support because I just go crazy.

I hope everyone is having a good day!
