MMM-
I am down 2 from last week, bringing my total since following the Leptin rules to 15 pounds.

WE should have had an online party last night. I couldn't sleep and was online till 2.
I've been working since thursday. 12 hour days. I'm off today and then work again Tues and Wed. I'm exhausted. And then couldn't sleep last night on top of it! I've got so many catch up errands to do today, and I'm just about to fall over. At least we will be able to pay back some money we borrowed when Trav lost his job. It's worth it.
I'm still weighing in at 195. I've jsut been sitting too much working. I'm holding my breath that Trav's expense check will come today. If it does I get to go officially join the Y.
The kids have both had breakfast and Jake is acting like he could take his nap early. I think I'm go see ifI can sleep for an hour. I git about 4 hours last night. I feel like I'm going to throw up!

Happy MMM Chickies
I'm so glad Monday is here. DH worked 18 hours, Friday, Saturday and 12 Sunday. It was a boring weekend. At least I did not fill it with food. Eating was pretty good, probably not enough food. Got my workout in last Friday, which is something that never happens. Yesterday I cut the grass and it almost killed me so I figure that counted too. I only bought 2 pair of shoes this weekend. Thought I shouldn't spend too much of the money DH WASN'T making on ot. He is now salary.
Didn't feel too well yesterday before the grass cutting and definately after so eating was minimal.
Happily, I can report I am down 9 pounds from last Monday. Granted a lot of that is water and I can actually move my ticker down 4 pounds. :cb:
I have a mini goal to get to 168 by Oct 1. I hope I make it. Gotta figure out how to get an additional ticker on here. Any help?
Monet, So glad the job is almost yours. I'm sure that there is nothing standing in your way. How fun. Congrats on your Dawgs win over Visor Man. Congrats on your 2 lbs and 15 pounds is awesome. Glad this is working for you.
Bob the cats weren't on TV, Idaho State. I listened on the radio and luckily they pulled it out. Unfortunatley, we lost a lot of players. The GA/SC games was about the only good game we could get here. No one else interested me.
Thin, have a great time at the beach. Hope you don't have any hurricane problems. Sorry your DS cholesetrol went up, I guess it is more hereditary and dietary. Hope the Welchol helps.
Ashley, glad I drug you back here. It was so good talking to you. I never even thought about mold and mildew problems on top of everything else. Hope you get to go back soon and hope you pop in here more often.
Gator, so sorry about your car. At least they didn't damage it to badly and get too much stuff. It is very aggravating though.
Bob & Gator, I am torn over who to pull for next Sat. Of course my SIL is orange all the way so I may have to lean that way a little to keep the peace. We already fight over the Yankees and the Red Sox games. Good luck to yo both and may the best team win.
Oh Monet, Funny you posted a challenge to try a new exercise this week. I brought my big book of exercises with me to work today. AT lunch I am going to figure out a new routine. I am bored with what I am doing and I need to switch it around anyway. So I will definately have a new one and I will post on the exercise board. Right now too. Don't know if I will get a new recipe in or not but will try.
bf: 3/4 C SoBE wheat cereal, with 1/2 skim milk
lunch, salad and fat free dressing tomato basil.
dinner: chicken parmagean, green beans ????
Got to get busy, but I'll be back.

Oh shoot forgot it was Monday and didn't weigh. But since I'm not doing to well its probably just as well. LOL. Had a nice week end. Took a trip to Lowes and got the rest of the wiring for the bedroom. Maybe that means DH is really going to work on it.
Monet- Congrads on your loss. You've done really well since using the Leptin rules.. Keep up the good work.
Jack-K- Wow, clapping for you on the big drop. Bet you feel a little better with that all off you.
Talitha- Hope you get some rest. I hate when I don't sleep.
Happy Day to all....

Good morning to all my SB buddies,
I was back down a pound to my previous lowest, but it is truly a miracle, because my eating was not sterling this weekend. I found out on the way up to Gainesville that my DS and his "2 boys" were coming up to the game. So we quickly went to Publix and got a small meal-wheel and 20 drumettes, along with chips and diet soda, and a dozen oatmeal raisin cookies. Now that's a real SB meal for ya!! :)
Anyway, all the food got eaten, mostly by the boys, but some by me. And there were other no-nos that I ate too. But I'm happy to see that I'm back to where I started a couple of weeks ago, and can work on getting lower now.
I still have some challenges ahead of me: this coming weekend we are going to the Gator-Vol game and will be partying with some of my DH's old fraternity brothers. We are all getting together for a tailgate party b/f the game. I am the organizer, though, so get to plan the menu, and I will make it healthy. I suspect that someone will bring junk, though. Proposed menu:
Cold poached salmon with cucumber-yogurt sauce
Thin sliced grill roasted rare beef filet
white bean salad with dried tomato pesto
Green salad
Fruit salad
Crusty french bread/ white and whole wheat
pita chips (homemade) with hummus
olives, cheeses
cookies of some sort
wine, water, soda
My DF has had a little episode with some fibrillation of his heart. He was in the hospital for one night, but is home now. They don't know why he had this trouble, and he has a pacemaker. He will be 89 Oct. 3, so 3 of us daughters are going up to his town to spend the weekend with him the weekend of 30 Sept. That may also be a food challenge, but will keep trying to be vigilent. We did cancel our plans to go to New Orleans the middle of October. I see that some things are getting electricity and water, but I think we will wait a couple of years before trying to go back. The Gators will be playing LSU in Red Stick again in 2007.
Got my walk in today, and can truly say that the weather is starting to cool every so slightly, maybe down to 89° this morning.
Congratulations to all the losers this week. :) Keep up the good work.
Heartmom--when do you start your new job? I've been thinking about you and your job and could not remember when you said it began.
Monet--Thanks again for starting the board. We are all indebted to you for your faithfulness. I haven't found out when we are having dinner with my DH's cousin. I'll let you know. I'm sorry that I won't be seeing you that Wed. The only time I get to Atlanta is the occasional time my DH comes up for this particular law course, or when the Gators play in the SECCG. Maybe we can all pull for them to get to that so I can get to see you.
BOB--Well Ewe Tea did not have a loss this weekend! :D Hope they lose next weekend, though! :D Don't think they will, unfortunately. The Gators are a bit suspect right now. I think the SEC is lucky to have Visor man still around. He is so colorful, and who would everyone have to hate if it were not for him!!! Gosh, I thought he was gonna pull it out against the Dawgs. After a couple of years, I would suspect that USC might be the team to fear in the conference. SOS is just a genius. Wish we still had him in Gatorville.
Jackie--Contratulations on the Cats' win.
Gotta go. Still need my shower and have a lot of chores.
Kyle started preschool today. He did very well, except he has a penchant for wrestling with the other kids during story time. :^: The fun thing was that I saw him playing equally with all the boys and he was very outgoing. There was one boy that flat out would NOT do what the teacher asked him to do. There's always one in each group, isn't there?
The bus picked up DD at 6:43 this morning. I had her out the door at 6:35 to be SURE she had plenty of time to wait and catch her breath. It's just so darn early.
And I have to have Junior at the trainers at 1pm. We just took down our inflatable pool this weekend, but DH hasn't had time to put it in the barn, so Junior decided it needed to be shredded and now not only is he wet, but he's covered in algae (the pool was more than gross when we drained it). He smells like a fish tank!! I just don't have time to give him a bath before we go. He's just going to have to go stinky. :( I don't know what the trainer will say.
Anyhow...gotta run and choke down something for lunch before I go. Replies later if I have time before DD gets home from school.

Good Monday Morning:
Fall is in the air. It is nice and (almost) a little cool this morning. I don't think we will break 100 all week; we s/b in the mid 90's.....mid 70's at night.
I ate pretty good over the weekend, and it did reflect on the scale this morning (120.5#). I haven't seen that number in a long time, and I hope to keep it there for awhile. I have been snacking waaaay too much lately, and my portion sizes were getting out of control. I concentrated on both of those areas over the weekend, and I will continue to work on those downfalls of mine.
I joined a new gym over the weekend (Pure Fitness); they have 9 valley locations, and the one that I will go to most of the time is 20,000 sq feet; it is a bit overwhelming, but I don't think I'd ever have to wait for a machine; they have so many of everything. It will be a little akward working out with men again, but I'll just keep my headphones on and keep to myself, like I used to when I worked out at a co-ed gym before. My DH has been working out at a tiny little gym (cave), and paying $30 per month. I was able to get us both in for $22.55 per month (each). We will pay $45 per month for both of us. Due to my situation with Naturally Women, they waived the joining fee of $69 each, and dropped the $25 per month to $22 per month (first and last). So instead of paying total joining costs of $336, we only paid $190. It will work out well for DH, with all of their locations. He can just go to whatever gym is closest to his last appt. of the day. The ONLY drawback is that the daycare is not open between 1-4 p.m. I plan to go when Lane is in preschool on Tues & Thurs, and go on Saturday, but I still wanted to take her with me one day...and that will be tricky, working within those hours, and being at school on time to p/u Britt. We'll work something out.
I have been an E-bay junkie lately. Britt and I sat on the computer and found a bunch of dresses to bid on for her; she only owns 2, and would like to have more for church and dressy occasions. She had so much fun. I also did get the weighted vest. It holds up to 40#'s, which I will never use, but my DH might. I paid $45 for it, and they retail for well over $100 in the stores. I think I am going to sell a bunch of my TAE-BO tapes on there, since I don't use them anymore.
I just made an appt. to take Britt to the doctor tomorrow. She has had this cough for well over 3 weeks now, and last night she coughed so hard that she threw up everything in her stomach. That is the second time that has happened. It does not seem to want to go away on its' own.
CHALLENGES: I am going to try my 20-minute Turbo Jam tape today. I am also going to make Lettuce Wraps this week sometime with ground turkey, water chestnuts, baby corn, soy sauce, etc.. rolled up in lettuce leaves. I'll let you know how they turn out.
JackieO: So good to see your post, and to know that you are o.k. Sorry you are having to deal with so much right now. Know that we are here for you!!
Gator: Sorry to hear about the break-in; I'm glad you were able to find DH's glasses. What punks!! Congrats on the loss. I sure hope your dad is o.k. Enjoy that time spent with him.
Monet: Congrats on the 15#'s!! That is great. When will you hear definitively on the job? Do you think you are up to it...being around all those little ones all day? ;)
Talitha: Sorry you have been so busy and not getting enough sleep. Be careful running those errands, being tired. I hope you are able to join the Y this week; you will start feeling so much better, and regain some of that lost energy.
Jack: Good job not turning to food while DH was away!! Congrats on the loss; keep up the great work.
ANY WORD FROM JULIA (KENG) YET? I am sure that little Jr. is here by now.
Lane is wanting some of my attention...so I better run.

Gosh it is lunch time and I have been so busy I didn't even need a snack today. I have seriously cut down eating between meals. Rarley do so anymore.
Talitha, we were posting at the same time. Sorry your are not sleeping. It seems when I get too tired, then I can't sleep. Hope you catch some zzzz's soon. Joining the Y should give you some energy back.
Toni, hope uou can get DH to work on that wiring soon. I have trouble remembering MMM, but since I weigh daily I always know what it says. have a great day and week.
Gator, that meal may not have been SG legal, but it sounded good. Wow what a tailgating menu, whatever happened to hot dogs or sandwiches? hat is such a gourmet meal. I would never get close to serving anything that fancy at home much less tailgaiting. Congrats on your loss. Hope your DD is doing better. I know a visit from his DD's will help.
Kris, congrats on your loss too. The day I see 160 again I will be :cheer: too. Right now, I'm shooting for 168. I feel so sorry your your DD having to leave so early for school? What time does she get home? How many days does Kyle go to preschool and how long?
Nat, congrats on getting back down to 120.5#Portion control is a big problem with me too. Also I am obsessed with thinking I have to eat all that is on my plate. I usually don't leave anything no matter if I am full or not. Got to learn how to do that. Glad you got such a good deal on the gym. I saw a wedding dress at an antique store over the weekend. It was the most beautiful dress I have ever seen. The whole bodice was beaded and it has a row of beads around the hem, with a big bustle in the back. Beautiful. The tag said $100.00. I was shocked. I seriously thought about buying it (not that my DD is needing one or would like the one I picked) but thought I could sell it on Ebay for at least $500-$1,000.00. Hope Britt feels better soon.
Be back later I hope.

Hey everyone! I finally got James out the door and to work, went to the library then to Harry's Whole Foods. I spent way too much there. I needed just about everything. I got agave, almond butter, milk, fresh natural chicken, eggs.....it adds up fast!
I came home and made chicken rogan josh curry. I warmed up some leftover rice, and chana dal and ate it on that. I am so stuffed! I only had a cup of rice, and 1/2 a cup of the dal and a ladle of the chicken curry.
I am SO tired...I know I need a nap. I have been trying to get some stuff done for the arts ministry at church I am in charge of. The children's director called me right after I got home and we talked a long time about stuff. I am waiting to hear from the headmistress at the school. She told me Monday afternoon....which it is! :)
I will let you know! And I agree...Julia should be the proud mama of a boy by now....I have not heard anything though. I think I will see if I have her phone number and call.

JACKIE...OH>>MY>>>GAWD!!!! You'll be on Susan's POOPIE LIST....NO ONE ELSE INTERESTED YOU?????? If you didn't watch that one, you missed that
BEST GAME of the weekend...(except for Peyton of course) It was UNBELIEVABLE...even though MS STATE didn't score, they kept right up with them on the field. Susan always has me pull for the opposite team because she says I JINX AUBURN!!! I couldn't do it...I called her after the game and told her that I sat on my hands for the first five minutes of the game and that was all I could stand it! WHEW....WHAT A GAME!!!
OH OH...I'll be back...the furbaby needs to squat!

Happy Monday all. Im down 1/2 pound as of last friday. Ill probably weigh again on Wed. Im trying this week to get my fat % down in the 20's and see what it does to the scale ( if it will speed anything up) It was tough but I acheived that goal for today and have my menu planned for tomorrow and so Ill have 2 days in the 20 % range. Ive been good staying in the 30's. Kinda rough getting it lower but doable. I ate lots and lots of veges today.
I have one more day of work than I am off the rest of the week. ( which Im hoping I can keep my eating in control being out of my routine)
Wed. Im going to moms to paint the room my dad used as his computer room so I should stay busy enough that day to stay away from too much snacking and Thursday my dd and I are driving to Indy for the day ( but going out to lunch) so Ill try my best. But the other three days I dont have any definite plans.
Monet - Congratulations on your loss for last week and on the 15 total . Your doing really good. Keep it up GF !!
Pancho- Thats great news on the gym . Sounds really big. More machines are great! The gym I joined dont have enough. Its kinda frustrating sometimes .
Tech- Congrats on your loss..woo hoo
Gator- congrats to you too on your pound loss. Alot of losers ...thats great !
Hi to everyone I missed. Heading to the exercise board and then off to do some ironing before bed. :smug:

Dinner was a weird affair. Tom came home and found me rather out of sorts and crabby. I really slept deeply when I napped, and woke up disoriented. I had a horrific headache all day, and it was even worse after the nap. I took four ibuprofen which helped for a while, but it is coming back now. Just in time for bed! :( For dinner, I picked. I had three Wasa rye crackers, some smart balance spread, a heaping tablespoon of almond butter and some green beans. I also drank a diet 7up. I really wanted to taste the chicken salad I was making for lunched tonight, but resisted the urge. So, I feel like I am back on track with not eating inbetween meals and especially not after dinner. I had not gotten too lax with it, but a few slips while fixing dinner add up I think.... Tom helped me clean up the kitchen some, and so now it is almost time for bed.
Still no word from the school on the job. I imagine they have not gotten a call back from the last reference they are waiting on...which is the school I used to work at. Hopefully, it will not take them forever to respond.
Now where has Country gotten off to again? And KENGJW if you are reading this, let us know how you are! HEART, we miss you! I hope all is well now there in Meridian....

SO happy I started DD on cutting/watching sugar. She's down 5 lbs and today she put on her favorite pants, which didn't fit her two weeks ago, and was pleased that they now fit!! Mission accomplished. :encore:
Will be back later for replies after I take Junior to the vet for his little snip-snip :o . Poor baby... Honestly, I do feel bad, but it's for the greater good of dogs worldwide...doing my part to keep the spca happy...and do be sure we don't have any embarassing moment with anybody's legs... :o
Oh...and we got a new computer...a MAC!! My DH and his toys...I was perfectly fine with the one we had, but it will be going to DD now for her room, which SHE's perfectly fine with!!
Be back later...Kris

Good morning Chickies,
I am so :tired: today. Gues I got to bed around 11:30 and slept soundly all night. When DH woke me up to get on the TM I just couldn't do it. Almost didn't getup when my alarm went off. The girls played ball until 10:00 last night so needless to say I did not get my wt training in. I did walk around the track 4 times (1 mile) in between their games. So tonight I will have extra work to do. Just hope I wake up by then.
This was not a new recipe, but I haven't made this in a while. baked some chicken breasts in a pan, poured spaghetti sauce on them and topped with parmesean cheese. Added green beans, cauliflower and peas and we had a great meal.
bf: 1/2 c oatmeal w 1/4 cup milk
lunch: salad, mushrooms, cheese, ham, ff dressing
dinner: crab cakes, baked cod, scallops (no scallops for me). salad another veggie.
Bob, I didn't see the MS game on TV, maybe I was out cutting grass at that time.
Cindy, enjoy your time off. Cutting down the fat% is hard to do. Please post your menus. Congrats on the 1/2 lb loss.
Kris, :cB; for your DD. I bet she was so excited. Now keep her going on healthy eating and she will be fine and not in the rut we are in.
Monet, still no word on the job? Will you go tomorrow anyway? Hope your headache is better.
Off to get some work done. Be back later.

Good Morning!
I slept ok last night...except I woke up at 4 and thought I was not going to be able to fall back asleep. I did though, and woke up at 7 when Tom was leaving. I feel much better today...the headache is gone, and I made a press of coffee to make sure it doesn't come back! :s: I have already had breakfast... smoothie made with 1.5 scoops whey protein and frozen strawberries, and two wasa rye crackers with smart balance, coffee with half and half.
I will probably go out shopping for a new dishwasher later this morning. Then I need to sit and obsess about lessons for tomorrow...not sure what they will do if they don't get that last reference in today. I suppose they will ask me to come teach as a second trial day. I am inclined to be very nice about it. Its not her fault the people I used to work for are flakes! :)
JACK: Taking a morning off is not too bad...obviously, you needed the sleep, and that is important too!
TECH: Congrats to your daughter on her loss! Hopefully, that will spur her on to make healthy choices a habit.
CINDY: I am glad you are losing...enjoy those days off! I have been to Indy! Its been years though! More than I can to admit!
BOB: Don't be such a stranger!
PANCHO: That new gym sounds really nice! I hope you come to like it better than the old one! I really need to think about joining a gym, don't I?
Ok, I need to go get some stuff done...like wake up James, and get him moving. I will be back later!

So, did I mention that on Labor Day weekend I was stuck behind a tourist with a boat going 45 - 50 mph (in a 55 mph zone) after being stuck behind another tourist going the same speed (that pulled into a driveway) in the same mph zone. I get so mad. So, then I passed the guy with the boat and in the process of trying to get passed him (because they ALWAYS end up going faster when you pass...like, "Oh...I'm going slow, I better speed up!"...) I was going 71 mph and a NYS Park Police pulled me over and gave me a ticket!!   I was so peeved and upset I started, literally, bawling...sobbing...I was so shaken by it my mom wouldn't let me drive when I got to her house (I was taking Shelley to a birthday party and had to pick her up at my mom's house because she'd spent the night there). Ugh. So, anyhow, I happen to know the judge in town and he told me exactly the night to go to court and speak to a DA and maybe I'll get it reduced or even tossed, depending on things.
So..
I'm coming home from the vet after dropping off Junior. I have my cruise control set at EXACTLY 55 mph. So, I'm going down some curvy spots on the road and going past a horse farm where a horse is whinnying and galloping right next to my car and I guess I was watching it too intently...at that and some cute, funny faces my son was making in the backseat and I apparently went over the yellow line. I hear this 'bleeep' from behind me and thought, well, I KNOW I'm not speeding, so I pulled over and doesn't he pull up behind me? A New York State Trooper this time. So, it's a young, pimply kid in a trooper suit and I'm thinking..what could I have been doing wrong this time??? I NEVER go out and the four times I've been out in the past three weeks, I get pulled over twice? Now I'm totally paranoid to drive anywhere!! So, he checks to see that Kyle is in his booster seat and properly buckled in and told me I was swirving over the yellow line and checked my license and all that. I mean, gawd. The vet is about 25 miles away and I probably pass 10 cars TOPS going in the other direction all the way back and I was going around curves, etc... What gives with the cops these days? I"m so paranoid now I don't even want to leave my house!! My husband says he thinks that the cop saw a blond and wanted to check me out. I love that story. I was so upset.
Oh...and our new computer? It's a MAC. Which would be fine, but the extensive Nancy Drew collection of pc games we have in UNCOMPATABLE with a MAC!!   So...I have to wait for my husband to build my daughter's loft bed to make room for the old computer to be installed in her room to ever play my ND games with my DD again.   My husband and his toys...He just HAD to have a new computer. He says it's because MACs are less vulnerable to viruses, etc. :dunno: Sure...I"m so thrilled...
Okay...replies later. I need a stiff cup of coffee...

TECH: I feel for you...in this day and age most people go the other way...from Mac to PC because there is just so much more software for PCs. You CAN get virus protection for a PC. We have Ad-aware, and Norton anti-virus. Having two live in geeks helps, too. Thankfully, both my geeks are PC snobs and not Mac snobs. My son used to get into very spirited discussions on which was better, Mac or PC. He says for musicians, Mac, for just about everything else, PC. My massage therapist was a Mac snob and she and my son would really go at it. Then, she started nursing school, and found that everything she wanted for her computer for school was only available in PC...and when her second Mac in less than two years developed fatal problems, she switched. Could you just go ahead and plug in the PC someplace so you can play your ND games? I would... Oh, and I am sorry about your ticket and run ins with the law! One night on our way home from church, Tom crossed the yellow line and the cops pulled him over. We were in an Oldsmobile custom cruiser (think TANK of a station wagon) and all three kids were going to town in the back seats. Tom got out and the officer asked him if he had been drinking! He said not unless the little old ladies at church spiked the punch without telling anyone. The officer must have realized he was a bit distracted by the kids, and gave him a warning and let him go. He did make sure we did not go through the apartment complex by where he stopped us. It was riddled with crime, illegal immigrants, and gangs. Such an exciting event on the way home from church! :) Tom has also been stopped by the Indiana State Patrol for going too fast while passing a truck. It was downhill and he was irritated with the truck for the same thing...speeding up when he tried to pass it...so he stomped it, and just about then, the blue lights came on! :) See? You aren't the only one! :grouphug:
Ok, off to think on lesson plans and watch the phone, in hopes it rings soon!

Thanks, Monet: Well, in regards to playing my games I like to play, I'm not inclined to sit in my daughter's room and play games on her computer. :( It's kind of like something we'd both sit and play together during our time I have set aside for Kyle to play the gamecube and then me and my DD would sit at the computer and play Nancy Drew or Roller Coaster Tycoon together...and RTC doesn't work on the MAC, either. Not even RTC3. DH already had enough of an attitude when we'd play ND games because we'd be locked on it for hours and he'd get miffed because we were ignoring him. So, I just don't understand why it was so urgent to spend a few hundred dollars on a new mac when the pc we had was just fine, imho. You know, I guess I'm just ultra irritated because I'm always getting flack over spending $50 too much on groceries or for buying my DD too many clothes for school (which is part and parcel why I wanted her to drop a few pounds so she'd still fit into last years pants!!) when he spends hundreds on things just so he can have new toys. You know...he just HAD to have the new Mac mini or whatever it is. I'm just mad...my two favorite things to do on the computer (other than talking to YOU guys, of course ;) )...Nancy Drew games and RTC....gone...now what am I supposed to do? Clean the house, I suppose!! I just can't help feeling slightly sabotaged...

Okay...so, like, NONE of the games we have that the kids play...even the ones that say macintosh on them...will play on our computer. I am so mystified as to why my DH needed to get this system. He says because it's so small and the keyboard and mouse are wireless...and the whole virus thing. I'm so mad right now... The kids have so many great educational games that they play that I play with them...things like Big Thinkers Kindergarden, Jump Start Typing, etc... I'm just...so...confused.
I'm going outside to enjoy the Junior-free-ness of it...like not getting knocked over while picking tomatoes and not having Kyle galloped over. I DO miss my dog, but the quiet it kind of nice, too. :s:
I'm still too mad to do replies...and thanks again, Monet, for sharing the getting-pulled-over stories...it really DOES help to make me feel better... ;)

TECH: Hmm, maybe that was part of the decision to get a new Mac...so you would not be able to spend time playing. Men! I am thankful that I live in a geeky household. There are four of us, and we each have our own computer. Laura has a laptop, and a wireless internet card in it, so she can go to Starbucks and use the wi-fi there, or numerous other places. If she wants to use the internet here, she just uses Tom's computer, or mine if I am not home. James doesn't let anyone touch his computers...he has two, but only uses one. For a long time, I used the same one as Tom, but at the time, I was also working and used the computer to write scripts for my program as well as kept records, etc. on the computer. James was building new computers for himself and Tom and this one was going to be for Ruth, my older daugther, who was in college at the time. She was supposed to take it to the dorm to use, but rarely stayed there more than three days a week, because she was working near home too. So, when I found out she was not going to take the computer to the dorm, I told Tom I thought it was unfair that she just have a computer to play on at home, when I was working and had to share his. After some discussion, the computer was given to me instead. Ruth was mad, but she was only going to play on it, and I needed it for work. I love having my own, so I can set it up the way I like and no one messes with it. The prices have really come down! I remember our first PC about 15 years ago cost us over $1000. Now, you can get state of the art, up to date, really cool systems for about $250! And our first harddrive? 30 megs! We bought one that was 340 megs a few years later and thought we were hot stuff! The new one in my computer is 80 gigs! (and it costed us roughly one fifth what the 340 meg one costed 12 years ago!)

Monet: That's just the thing. I hardly have time to play games, etc. Especially now that Kyle's in PreK, I'll be there for three morning's a week and I'm always making a meal or cleaning the dishes from them or folding wash or putting together puzzles with Kyle or sitting in the driveway while he rides his bike or chalks on the sidewalk or I'm walking the dog or just dumb busy stuff. So, once in a while, I like to poke around on a rainy day or if I'm just a bit bored on the ND game me and Shelley are working on and see if I find any new clues, etc. or work on a park DS and I are working on. So now, I guess, I'll just have to find something else to do. It IS a distraction, but I feel bad that kids loose their games. Kyle and I were working on games that help me teach him math and reading and they're games I worked on with Shelley when she was his age. I was having fun reliving them again. :(

TECH: Did you tell that to Derek? I still think you ought to find a place to plug the PC in and do it. Its really not hard to set it up...cables go from the monitor to the CPU, and the keyboard and CPU. Then it would be ready to roll for the educational games for Kyle and the mom and daughter time with Shelley. Men can be rather clueless about these kinds of things, so you have to spell it out for them. :)

Well, I did just talk to him about it and suggested he talk to his friend, Don, that is a big time Mac user and ask him if he knows of some sort of download or something we're missing that makes it possible to play the games on the mac. There has to be some way. I'm just disappointed is all. Derek gets all excited about something and when things go wrong, I hate to be negative about it to him because he gets all defeated about it and then I feel bad. He seemed pretty optimistic that Donny might have a fix for this. You know...when I used to work at Kodak, we all had Macs, and I worked in the IS department. Then everyone went to PC's and then after a while, they all got windows 3.1 and everyone freaked out at the similarities with the Macs and I'm like, 'who cares...as long as Excel and Word work, that's all I need it for'. And the computer gurus were all, "Well, this is horrible...Macs are the worst!" This was 1995 and then Windows 95 came out and I didn't really hear much more about it other than PC's and Macs went together like oil and water and there was literally no grey area between the pc people and the mac people. I'm so shocked that ten years later, it's still the same? :dizzy: You'd of thought this little rivalry could have been worked out by now and things would be more across the board and compatible. :dunno:
Oh...well...I'm going to go look up to see if any ships are coming down the river and get some binoculars and take Kyle to the river to see it before we go meet Shelley at the bus stop. That is, of course, if the Seaway website it MAC compatible!! Gosh..you know...ONE good thing is I was a little late leaving the dog trainer's yesterday and I was soooo glad Shelley has a cell phone now so I could call her and let her know I wouldn't be home when she got there, but would be in five minutes. THAT was a nice thing...
Okay...I'm starting to calm down now...things could be worse, right? Time to move on and look at the bright side of things...like the real fact that the state trooper didn't give me a ticket for something. :^:
I'm done pouting...thanks again, Monet, for cheering me up!! You're a true friend

Cindy--Congrats on losing that 1/2 pound. Way to go! You have been so faithful with your eating, and you will get to your goal before you know it.
Tech--I'm sorry to hear of your problems with the police. It is maddening, especially when so many others are flagrant violators of the law: ie. weaving in and out of traffic, tailgating, etc. Hope you can get the ticket thrown out.
Here's a little history of the PC and Mac: Back in the "olden days" IBM was happy to let other manufacturers "clone" its DOS based operating system. DOS stands for disk operating system and was the first OS for the PC and is the underlying control program for Windows 3.1, 95, 98 and ME. Windows NT, 2000 and XP emulate DOS in order to support existing DOS applications. At the same time, Apple Computer was not willing to allow cloning of its operating system (OS) and kept the propriatary rights to itself. So, because of the flood of DOS based machines on the market the price went down, and people could buy PCs for less than Apples. And despite the superiority of the Mac OS, the lower price of the PCs spurred the software companies to write their software for the more plentiful PCs, that were being bought by large corporations for business purposes. Microsoft Corp., seeing how "intuitive" and non-command based the Mac was, developed Windows, so that a PC would act like a Mac. Thus, the PCs appeared to be a WYSIWYG format, with the Mac-like ability to use a mouse to "drag" and move things around on a "desktop." However, the PC was still a DOS OS running in the background. The Apple operating system is totally different from the PC as it is based on Unix. In 2001 Apple totally revamped its OS from the ground up with the introduction of Mac OS X. And even though this OS is much more advanced than earlier versions of the Mac, it still has the same ease-of-use that people have come to expect from Apple software. If Apple had allowed cloning of its machines back when the PCs were first being cloned, we would be an Apple computer world, because, in truth, Apples are superior machines. The problems the consumer has is that the software writers put all their eggs in the PC basket because of the large number of those cloned machines. With all the holes in the Windows software, and because of some natural weaknesses in basing Windows on top of DOS, hackers and other unsavory types create worms, viruses and trojan horses to attack those inherent weaknesses of the PC with Windows. Anyone who has a PC and who has not set their computer to automatically update the many patches that Microsoft has to keep writing to keep one step ahead of the hackers is just asking for trouble. The reason that Macs don't have those kind of problems is (1) hackers don't bother writing their viruses, etc. for an OS for such a fewer number of computers, (2) the Mac OS is much harder to write viruses for because of the Unix based OS, and (3) a bunch of technical reasons that are easier for computer nerds to understand than I can explain. So, Tech, your DH has actually bought a superior machine, but you are in an "adjustment period" where you are having to deal with some changes, and feeling the frustration because of the software problem. In the long run, I hope you will come to appreciate your new Mac, and you will find that you have no problems with it whatsoever. You probably won't need a computer nerd to figure out things for you, because Macs generally have no problems. Their systems don't ever crash, and the machine is easy to use. So, give it some time, and maybe in a couple of months you will be feeling happier about your DH's purchase.
Jackie--Don't fret over the missed walking. I only got 8600 steps yesterday myself. Some days you just have to do your best and let it go at that. You are so good with your weight lifting, and probably better than 90% of the population. So give yourself a pat on the back.
Monet--What are you going to do tomorrow about the job the principal hasn't called you back on? Will you just show up? I think she ought to call you, and not leave you hanging. Perhaps she could offer you another demo class while you are waiting for her to get the information she needs for you. I hope it all works out for you. :)
Got my weight lifting in today. It was hard. The Pers. trainer never does the same thing when I go in. Today it was all upper body except for the leg press. He has lowered the weights a bit for my leg press, and has me doing 140 pounds per leg for 10 reps, then 12 reps and then 30 reps. Ugh. My legs were shaking at the end. He ALWAYS has me do something on the leg press, and I call it my "favorite" machine. NOT!
Well, its late and I need to fix myself some lunch, and study some French. Hope everyone has a great day.
Hi to Heart and Keng. Heart, where are you? Keng, we all think Jr. has arrived and can't wait to hear the official news.
Gator: Wow....thanks for that pc/mac 101 course!! That explains it all. I feel kind of like I did when we got our DVD player and though...great, so what am I supposed to do with all these tapes now? Or more closer to the feeling is when we had a BETA VCR and all the BETA tapes and then, for reasond unknown to me, VHS stuff became the dominant force in the VCR world. I so much preferred the quality of the BETA world, but was forced into the VHS stuff because the BETA was fazed out. My very first computer at kodak was a Mac S-10 or something...it was this little thing and I'd turn it on and it would go dink-da-dink-da-dink for what seemed like a half hour before it would turn on. I really liked that little 'puter. But then it was on my desk barely long enough to collect dust and then they'd swipe it off my desk and say, "Whoops...can't have that old dinosaur laying around...that thing is old...old...old!!" and then they'd give me a new one...then it seemed a month later...."Well, time for an upgrade!! We're going to PC's!!"...and in would come another computer and it seemed like every six months, they'd be swapping out computers and going from one operating system to the other...first the Mac world, then the pc world, then 3.1, then 95, then 98 (as if there was a difference from 95...) then 2000, then I became a stay at home mom and that was it. I'm hoping with this OS X (that's what we have) that things are more compatible than they were over the last few years. Meanwhile, I'll remain calm and be happy for the 19 inch screen!! Holy Toledo!! I keep thinking I'm going to have people outside in their cars thinking it's a drive in!!

Tech--Hang in there and you will get the "hang" of it. LOL
Myself, I'm waiting for a year or so when the Mac G-5 comes out with the new Pentium chip. Things will really change then and some of the software makers are already starting to get things fired up for that event. I have an old "flower power" Mac, almost 5 years old, and would like to upgrade to the new "Tiger" OS, (that's the latest version of OS X) but don't have the capabilities with memory or periphials to upgrade on my computer, which was one of the earlier MacIntoshs that came out. So, I'll wait for my huge screen, clear lucite, CPU hidden in the monitor screen somewhere, fast as a jet, new Mac G5 series. It's so powerful, it should last me 10 years or so. :)
What an afternoon... We went to Best Buy and I found a dishwasher. They had a $900 Kitchenaid on clearance. I got it for $560! It has a stainless steel tub, and super duper racks. The front is all stainless steel, with the operating buttons on the top and out of sight. They bring it Friday and install it. Woo hoo! I can't wait. I am thinking that is a deal even BOB will approve of! :)
Then, we went to Costco for me to get Tom's Slo-Niacin, and then to Target for Laura to shop a bit. She took way too long and totally wore me out. I wanted to be home by 4, so I could call the school if I did not have a message. Well, We did not get home until 4:45, and there was no message from them. I tried calling and the office was already closed, and I got the answering machine. I left a message, but dang! I will go in tomorrow with lessons planned, but I hate this uncertainty. I am sure she is waiting to hear from that school I worked at before, and they are rather full of themselves and probably in no hurry to be helpful. Grrrrr..
We are heading out in a bit to babysit for a young couple from church. Their little guy is about ten months...he will be in bed asleep the whole time we are there. I need to get Tom in from stretching after his run to eat some of the soup I made, so we can go. We are having Potato Leek soup with chicken. I used low carb potatoes. Its made in the pressure cooker and so far, it smells divine!
If we get in early enough, I will check in before bed. Otherwise, I will be back in the morning!

Hey, guys! I finally have time to post. So I'll guess I'll start with Katrina. Man, that was really bad. Bush just got around to calling our county a disaster area a couple of days ago. We were without power for 9 days and lost all our food in our fridge and deep freezer, several hundreds of dollars. Too bad we didn't get some kind of assistance for that. Our town is FULL of Katrina survivors(I hate the word refugee). We are suppossed to be a FEMA distributor site, so probably eventually 10,000 newcomers. Lots of homes got destroyed by fallen trees. Alot were damaged. Only one casualty here, but that's one too many. Sad, a tree broke and fell on this man and he died of his injuries later at the hospital. We got some minor damage. My new carpet got wet, but we peeled it back and it dried out. Some minor roof damage. My beautiful big umbella-type oak tree is gone. It's located right next to the house and could have fallen on it and destroyed the home plus killed the kids(we had 6 here at the time)playing in the back bedrooms. So thank God it fell on the ground beside the house. There were times I sat and bawled after hearing of the terrible things people had encountered. Some people are pure evil. And not trying to get into politics, but it definetly could have and should have been handled totally different than it was. Disgrace. I didn't start work until this past Tuesday(one week after I was orginally due to start). It's going okay, my hardest thing for me is being STILL at a desk for hours at a time. Bookkeeping is boring, but interesting and extremely tedious. So ask my how I like my job in a couple of months, lol. As for my weight, it's not as good as it was. I was getting back down, I think I was 163 the day before Katrina hit. Now I'm guesstimating..I think I'm around 168. Not for sure since I'm not weighing because TOM just showed up yesterday. I plan to get a hold back on things. The week without power, I ate things that I NEVER eat, like canned beanie weenies, can ravioli, and LOTS and LOTS of junk food. I probably was more in weight but didn't weigh until I had a couple of OP days back in me. As for my exercise, it sucks. It's hard to get up at 5 and do a workout. And even harder when you come home and your tired and you don't have the energy to cook, let alone exercise. My job is not physical at all, I sit at a desk using virtually no calories. But the eye strain and brain strain make me tired by the end of the day. I'm sure I'll get into some sort of routine, it'll just take time to figure out. Today, our server was down, so we were sent home at 11:30. Which I was kind of glad for. I was able to run some errands and come home and workout while I had some energy and cook supper and finally get around to cleaning the nasty deep freezer. I want to thank you all for asking about me, thanks for caring. Please continue to keep all the Katrina survivors in your thoughts and prayers, they will need them for awhile. I am proud of our community for embracing them like we have. I've talked to some and they said they loved our hospitality so much that they wanted to make Meridian their permanent home.
Tech- great job on getting the weight back off!
Pancho- did you ever try the Turbojam? How is it?
I'm going to post on the exercise board, although it will be this weekend before I get around to posting again. Here's my menu for the day:
BF- leftover spaghetti and meat and sauce(used Mueller's LC noodles)
Lunch- Protein bar(190 c and 6g fat)
Snack- lite yogurt
Supper- grilled burger with LC sauce(no bread) and legal coleslaw
I need to work on the veggies. I've been eating fruit and yogurt for BF, but I was burned out today. Since I know I won't post tomorrow, here's my menu:
BF- probably fruit(apple or orange) and plain yogurt(with splenda)
Lunch- probably a protein bar(I'll eat at my desk and won't have to clock out)
Snack- unsure, probably yogurt or walnuts
Supper- making the rest of the family taco salad but I don't need the sodium. So I'll grill some chicken tenders and make a big salad with veggies, some cheese, and Ranch dressing, ohhh that sounds good;)
I'll check back in a couple of days!!

Tech- Oh my. I think Id be a little paranoid too! We live around a bunch of country roads here and it amazes me on Sunday mornings their out there hiding on those country roads. Like lets stop all the people out on their way to church. I never see them there during the week or weekend nights. Sorry you got the speeding ticket. My dd got hers the same way..passing a slow vehicle and got her speed up but then she said a camero got behind her and was riding her tail so she sped up somemore...lol well that camero was our highway patrol. Got her real good.
Gator- that was interesting reading on the pc /mac. Thanks.
Monet- a few months ago we got a Bosch diswasher with the stainless steel tub.. Your gonna love it. I never thought Id be excited about a dishwasher but this one is definitly different.
Hope everyone has a nice evening. Im going to get to watch big brother tonight ( usually i dont see it on Tuesdays due to its on when I go to bed) but being I dont have work tomorrow I can stay up and watch! :p

Hi Everybody! Thanks for all the prayers and thoughtful replies!! Things seem to be getting a bit better over here. My parents are planning to go back to Louisiana this weekend and my mom will start work on Monday. Apparently, the car dealership where she works got very little damage. I am planning to leave Kansas at the end of the month and fly into Dallas to see my sister for a few days before returning home. I plan to start working again around the 1st of October. My routine has really been thrown off lately..it's kind of hard when you are living at someone else's house to have special dietary requests!! However, my aunt's gym gave me a 1 month membership while i am living here. I thought that was very gracious of them, and it has helped tremendously to restore some sense of normalcy. I hope you are all well and I will try and check in tomorrow. Have a good night.- Ash
P.S.- Has kenj had her baby?

Evening! I got in from babysitting a little while ago, and finished up a few chores before I came up here to get ready for bed. HEART and JACKIEO its good to see your posts, and hear how things are going.... I don't know about KENGJW and Junior yet...guess I need to try and get her on the phone...
The headmistress from the school called tonight while I was out and left a message. She does want me to teach tomorrow...which I was planning on...but they still don't have that last reference. Her husband had surgery and she was out for two days, which is what I suspected. No sweat...I will go and teach and have fun, and hopefully, have the contract by the weekend.
The soup I made for dinner really turned out well. I thought I would take a serving of it for lunch tomorrow. Unfortunately, I came home and found the pot empty! James liked it so much he ate it ALL! The low carb potatoes were good, but the recipe calls for russett, probably because they are more starchy and would make the broth thicker. It turned out ok even with the low carb ones...but I think I would use less potatoes and more leeks next time. I think it would be good with ham, or bacon in it instead of chicken, too. I may try that next time. :)
Ok, off to get ready for bed! I have to take my neighbor's daughter to school tomorrow, as she has a doctor's appointment. No problem, since I am going anyway! :) I just have to be there a bit earlier!

Happy Wed Chickies!
Nothing exciting with me. We did have a great dinner last night. Inf act the last 2 nights. Last night we had baked cod, baked scallops, crab cakes, sauteed shrimp, and salads. I only ate 4 oz of cod and a crab cake and a salad. But everyone loved it.
We walked about 2 miles after dinner. Didn't work out and will only get one night in this week. Wil have to find some time on Sunday too.
Bf: 1/w grapefuit, Q-smart bar
lunch, egg salad, clementime, 1 pc ww bread.
dinner: soft tacos, refried beans
Kris, so you didn't get a ticket the last time with Jr? Don't know about there, but here tickets are about $170.00.
Gator, Not only did I miss my TM yesterday, I did not get my wts in either. After a lengthy dinner, we did take a 2+ mile walk. But I was too tired after I got home and fixed lunches and dinner for tonight to do wts. Hopefully some tonight, but I know this will be the only night this week. Is the leg press where yous it and push the plate out and back? If so you are doing 140 lbs? WoW! I only do 50 with both legs. But it is one of my favorite exercies.
Monet, That was a great deal on the Dw. Sorry you haven't heard from the schoo, but like you say, I'm sure it is just the old school taking their time replying.
Heart, So glad to finally hear from you. Glad you had minimal damage and all are ok. It is truly a nightmare for these people. Glad your job is going ok. Maybe you could look for some exercises you can do at your desk. I think fitness.com has some.
Cindy, thanks for he menues. I have forgotten about the broccoli/cauliflower salad. I haven't made it in awhile. I add sunflower seeds sometimes. Enjoy the rest of the week off.
Ashley, glad to hear things are getting back to normal. Great news about the gym. That was nice of them. I just heard this morning that things may be up and moving as early as Monday in NO. I hope so. Enjoy your visit with your sister. Keep in touch.
Missy, any plans for your float for Mardigras? I heard it will be the best one ever come Feb.
Have a great day, be back later.

Good Morning:
Lane and I are leaving in a few hours for a Yoga class with our Mom's Club, so I thought I would post while I had a little time.
Yesterday was sooo busy. I took the girls to school, and then Lane and I went to the post office. I then took her to her preschool, and went to my new gym for my first appt. with the trainer (they give you two complimentary when you join). It was great because all the equipment is so overwhelming and she was able to help me figure it all out. On your first appt., they give you a five-minute bike riding test to figure out your aerobic capacity, they also weigh you, and take your measurements and your body fat percentage. My BMI is 20.8, which means nothing to me since they don't take your body fat into consideration (there are bodybuilders that show as obese with this measurement). ANYHOW, my body fat percentage was at 19%. The gal that was taking my measurments was 21 years old and looked so tiny to me. When she took my body fat, she said, "that's awesome!" She said that her body fat was 19% and she is only 21, and that 19% body fat for someone "my age" was great!! I think when I started working out, my body fat was around 24-25%. I was down about 25 total overall inches since I started working out 2 1/2 years ago. My weight when I was there was 121#, which puts me down 31# since I started working out. She then asked me if I take a multi-vitamin and calcium, and asked how many meals a day I eat. She then took me out and familiarized me with some of the machines, and we got a good workout in. I meet with her on Thursday for my second workout. Every month, they offer FREE measurements, weigh-ins and body fat analysis. They want to make sure that you are making progress. They seem to have a pretty nice set-up there.
After that, I picked up Lane and we had a picnic, and then I took her to Toys R Us. We then picked Britt up from school and took her to the doctor to make sure her cough hadn't moved into her lungs (it hasn't...thank God), and then went to check the mail and didn't get home until 4:30...and then it was dinner, homework, baths.....etc...
Jack: I've been doing a lot better with portion control...I find using a small plate helps me out a lot. That sounds like a steal on that wedding dress...but you never know, E-bay is such a gamble. I bought a bunch of high quality halloween costumes on clearance one year, and tried to sell them on there, for CHEAP, and didn't sell one. It sounds like you have been doing good with your eating and exercise still. I hope you get some rest tonight.
BOB: How are you and how are things going at work??
Cindy: Congrats on the loss. Enjoy your time off.
Tech: I am glad for your DD; hopefully she will be able to make a lifestyle out of it. There are so many temptations away from home. I can relate to your "ticket" story. I have not had a ticket in well over ten years. I got pulled over last December for speeding, and got a ticket. I took a driving course for that one. I then found out recently that I got a ticket via a speeding camera in a part of town I rarely drive in. I can't take a driving coure for that one; it will go on my record and insurance. I hope Junior is feeling back to normal soon.
Monet: I think you would get so much more out of a multi-purpose gym than Curves. I think you are pretty limited at Curves. With a regular gym, the possiblities are endless. It sounds like a great deal on the dishwasher.
Gator: It sounds like you got a great workout in. The trainer I was with really worked me; my abs are a little sore today.
Heart: SO GOOD to hear from you. I am sorry to hear about the damage and food loss from Katrina. Glad you were finally able to start your job. You can work on your weight now that you can get some healthy food into the house; you had to eat what was available, and your weight could have been a lot worse, I am sure. I have tried TurboJam, and I really like it; it is a unique exercise program, nothing like the Burn It Up. The music is great, and it is high energy. I am sure you are more co-ordinated than I am (most people are), so you'd probably enjoy it even more than I do. The day after I did the first learn and burn video, my back hurt. It wasn't joint pain, but muscle pain (in areas I didn't even know I had muscles). I have only done the 20-minute video, and it was great. I haven't done the 45 minute one yet.
JackieO: Thanks for checking in. It's always so nice to hear from you. I am glad things are starting to normalize a little bit for you and your family. Enjoy your time with your sister.
Here is a recipe I found for those of you who like your protein shakes:
Post-Workout Chocolate Shake: - I am sure you could cut recipe in half
1 cup milk or soy beverage
1 cup plain yogurt
1 scoop whey protein powder
1 banana
1 TB flax oil
2 tsp cocoa powder
Mix in blender and enjoy
I better go get ready; I'll try to check in later.

Another quickie...Today has been a MUCH better day. I took Kyle to preschool and since I'm a wimp, I stay the whole class. Which, I think, is good only because I'm really sure that Kyle could care less if I'm there or not. Really. Otherwise, I'd be taking this opportunity for him to be more independent. So, I stay and I don't know how the teacher can handle the class without another hand. Those kids pee like fountains!! Every half hour I'm taking a half dozen kids to the potty and then we have to wash hands and all that. Even if I'm only there for potty runs, I'm glad I'm there to help!! And they did a painting job where they put their entire hand in red paint to make dog ears!! Some kids looked at me like, 'are you sure this is okay?' Cute. THEN...the best part is I took all ten kids in the bathroom to pee and wash hands before snack and had them all lined up by the door when they finished to wait for the stragglers and when one girl named Genevieve was done, I told her to go wait in line by the door with the others and she shoved a girl out of line and said, "I want to stand next to him!"...my Kyle!! :s: I thought...here we go...he's only 4 and they're fighting over him already!! :lol3: Daddy was proud... But they all play really well together and I can't wait to have them all over to my house for Kyle's birthday!! :dizzy: I just love little kids...'specially this age. We can play all the games my daughters friends are sick to death of only now I have a fresh audience!!
Okay...have to go...will do replies later...
 Welcome back Laurie!! Before you know it, it will all be a distant memory...

Just a fly-by.
Food today:
B. Shredded wheat 'n bran with 1/4 peach and strawberries with sk. milk.
L. 2 oz. WW spaghetti with 1/2 C. sauce and 1 T. cheese
Dinner will be crabcakes, homemade. And veggies.
Jackie--Yes, that's the leg press that I do. i sit semi-upright and then push a big square plate out with my legs. It is a Med-X machine, which has the latest design cams, so it is not like pushing a dead weight. It is similar to a Nautilus machine. I actually was pressing 210 pounds per leg, but this new trainer likes to have the weights lower and have me do lots of reps.
Pancho--Wow, you are busy. And that's awesome about your body fat %. Good going.
I don't have any news. I have to bake a few things to get ready for the tailgate party on Saturday before the BIG game.
BOB--How did you like the Rocky Top song I sent you? :)

The board is slow this afternoon.
At lunch I went through my exercise folder (when I see an exercise in a magaznine I rip it out and save them in a folder). I am trying to work on a new routine. I'm tired of mine and I'm sure my muscles are used to it.
We have our Elks Club drawing tonight. It is up to around $2,000. Wish DH would win it. The last 2 weeks I have drank diet cokes instead of a mixed drink or wine. I may have enough calories to have a glass of wine, but want to stay with the coke it I have the willpower.
Dinner is tacos and the meat is already cooked so dinner will be quick and I hope to get in some wts or start putting my routine in order.
Nat, glad you like your new gym. That is great about your body fat. But at 121 you can't have too much fat. I always use a small plate. I give DH & SIL a big one and ther est of us, small ones. It helps.
kris, maybe you should look into being the teacher's assistant and getting paid for it. Kids are cute at that age. Then they grow up.
Gator, 210 lbs is a lot. I can't do more than 50 or 60. How many reps do you do? I have a Body Solid machine, similar to the Nautilus I think.
have a great evening. See ya tomorrow.

Just got in from school. The kids were better today. I am exhausted. I am exhilarated. I love teaching and the potential has me smiling. They are STILL waiting on my last reference. I don't think they are worried about it, and perhaps she will call another one instead of waiting. I have an appointment with the headmistress on Monday morning to discuss curriculum, philosophy and my ideas on the programs development. I am assuming she is confident I will be staying on the rest of the year. :)
Tonight, we are going out to dinner with Laura and her new boyfriend. She is finally going to let us meet him, after hearing about him for a month at least. :) I have talked to him on the phone, and James has met him and thinks he is pretty nice.
We are going to a favorite Mexican place near here, and I can probably get something legal. Tom usually won't let me eat the chips! :)
Ok, I need to go chill, so I will try and get on later and give you a report on the dinner and stuff... :s:

A quick "HI!"- got on the computer to pay my phone bill. Just got thru with supper. I think the fluid retention I've been having is finally starting to budge, maybe it will be gone by Friday. I'll have to watch myself on the weekend. I'm glad I got my workout in this morning, I simply don't have time to do it in the evening when I get home. Too much stuff to do and not enough time. Alright, I need to go and get things done around here!

Jackie--When I was working out at the old gym, the one that closed about a month ago, I was doing the 210 pounds on a MedX machine, 15 reps, one set only. Now I'm doing 140 pounds, pushed way up close where my knees almost touch my chest, and he has me doing sets. I end up doing about 30-40 reps. On Tuesday I did 3 sets, starting with 10 reps, then 12, and finishing with 30 reps. My legs are shaking when I finish, but I normally don't get too sore. Just a little sore occasionally in the butt! I was also doing something called "Super Slow" which is doing the positives to a slow 10 count and then coming back on the negatives to a 5 count. It is hard and you can't push as much weight that way. The trainer I have now doesn't do SuperSlow. If you want to advance in the weight you can lift, Super Slow is just about the best way to improve that I know. I was amazed at the progress I made when I was doing it. It takes a lot of discipline, and it helps to have a friend, a trainer, or even a DH, who will count and "push" you to failure. You want to do 8 to 12 reps with the SuperSlow, and if you can do more than that, you need to increase the weight.
Dinner was good tonight. I splurged and bought an 8 oz. pkg. of lump crab meat. I made 2 big crabcakes, using 5 raw shrimp ground in the mini-blender with some Old Bay seasoning, some mayo, 1/2 egg, and 1/2 slice bread crumbs. It was like a shrimp mousse that I mixed in with the crab, and also added a minced scallion, red bell pepper and 1/2 jalapeno minced. The cakes were go-o-o-d. Had them with a green salad with grape tomatoes and avocado.
Heart--Your schedule really has changed. I'm so glad for you that you got your exercise in. I'm wondering if you can just plan to get it in every morning before work. I certainly hope so.
Monet--Glad the teaching job worked out today and that the principal finally called you to come in. Sounds like you can count on the job.
Anyone heard from BOB. I wonder how her job situation is going.
Hope everyone has a great evening.

We just got in from dinner. Laura's friend is really nice, and very good looking. And such manners! I liked him right off.
Dinner was stuffed poblanos with beans. I did eat about 6 chips. I feel rather full...so I know I over ate. Hard not to do with Mexican food.
Tom and James are having a beer together, so I think I will go chill, and let them do their manly stuff.

Just me. I spent most of the day today at moms painting and got a good workout just doing that. Bending and squating..up and down the ladder and my arms and shoulders feel like they are going to fall off. Why did painting seem so much easier when I was younger? ;) But I got it all done after 5 hours and 2 coats later. I then changed my clothes and tried to clean up a bit before I left from there and went to the bank then to a Marshalls that just opened here in town. Found a Liz Claiborne purse for $16.00 thats just what I was looking for for my up coming Vacation in Oct. My everyday purse is like carrying a suitcase on my arm so I wanted something small with a long strap and I found the perfect one. I got home around 2:15 and was exhausted . I layed down for about and hour then started dinner ( which youll see below wasnt that hard ). I got in a weight workout and vacumed the house and dusted and vacumed out my car. So I feel like I got alot done today. Hitting the hay early tonight because my dd and I are heading to Indy early tomorrow.
Todays Menu:
b-strawberrie smoothie, 1 slice ww toast
s- 1 cup diced cantaloupe
l- chicken roll ups with swiss, LF cottage cheese, 1 cup brocilli/califlower raw. 3 radishs
s- 4 almonds, SB oatmeal cookie
d- digerno (sp) frozen pizza ( just ate the toppings), 1 cup green beans
s- orange
28%fat
1295 calories
Jack-k- what a good idea adding sunflower seeds. Ill have to try that.
Nat- Wow thats great on your fat %. I havnt taken the time to get the hour with a trainer they've offered. Maybe I should. I really dont want them weighing me and such for Im good at doing all that myself. But Id love to be showen how to use some of the weight machines properly.
Tech- sounds like you are having fun in that class  4 yr olds are so cute .. well most of the time . :)
Monet- Sounds like you have a weekly job. Its wonderful to be doing something you love to do. I wish I could say the same. My job is a job. Though Im working on being thankful for having it and trying to find some joy in it since thats where Im at and it pays the bills. But It would be nice to do something I enjoy and love .

Time for a few replies...
Monet: Did I hear you say you've lost 15 POUNDS since you started the Leptin thing? Holy Toledo!! That is fantabulous!! I was so absorbed in my own woes I didn't notice until just now... I just know things are going to be fantastic for you with your art classes, also.
Cindy: What was it you were painting? A room? Twice in five hours? You are FAST!! I'm inviting you over next time I paint something!! I move like a snail when I paint...
Gator: I wish I'd had you to work out with when I was going to a gym. You would be a fabulous partner!!
Jack: An exercise folder, eh? That sounds soo....organized!! :lol3: And, I'd love to get paid for taking the kids to pee, but I don't think its a paid position. But maybe the volunteering of it may look good on my resume when I try for the whole 'substitute teaching' job next fall! I'm sure I could use the teacher for a reference, specially since I've known her for five years, since our kids are in class together and have lockers next to each other. But my main benefit is to be able to hang out with Kyle for the few hours he's there. Really, I'd die if I came home without him and the house was so quiet. I know, I could watch my taped Changing Rooms episodes with no complaints or go walk with nobody trying to bale out of the stroller, but I'm too busy enjoying his company while it lasts...
Pancho: Those radar/speeding cameras are a real mystery to me. I've known of people that have gotten them and they say they send you a picture of you driving the car with the ticket so you can't deny it. This was in Europe, so maybe they don't do that here...What a rotten trip the the mailbox THAT has to be!!
Okay...Have to cut off replies there. I have to take a shower and it's PAY DAY!! Which means I get to go grocery shopping!! :cheer: Will be back later on.

TECH: I heard this story about those traffic cameras: The camera photographed a guy going over the speed limit and took his picture. They sent him the ticket with the picture of his car. He sent them back a photo copy of a $50 bill...the price of the ticket. The police station sent him another letter- with a photo copy picture of a pair of handcuffs. He paid the ticket! :)
I just had breakfast: three scrambled eggs with some low fat cheese, and two cups of coffee with half and half and agave. I feel like I ought to DO something...but I am feeling rather lazy. I ought to knit...but I don't feel like that either. If I had a good book to read, I would do that, but I don't. I may go read more in Mastering Leptin. I have read about 2/3 of it...what is left is chapters on specific medical conditions effected by the endocrine and metabolic systems. One of the chapters is on thyroid...so of course I am interested! :)
I will be back later!

Good Thursday Morning Chickies
I had to come in early today. We are leaving early to go out on a friend's houseboat. 3 couples and we are going to call in to Buckheads and order dinner to eat on the boat and cruise the river. It is supposed to rain, but it is a rather large houseboat(85') so we can stay inside. Should be fun. I will be ordering a salad.
Had to get up eariler today, but did and got the :tread: in. I did get in 35 minutes of wt training last night. I just did 2-3 of each body part since I normally do 1 body part a night and I knew that was my only night to work out until Sunday.
Bf: 1/2 grapefruit, 1 mini ww bagle 1 T pb.
lunch, salad, lettuce, cheese, mushrooms, LF dressing.
dinner: salad of some type.
Gator, I still don't see how you do that much wt. I tried 60 lbs last night and could barely do 20. I used to be able to do 50# fairly easily when I was doing them every night. I need to get back to using it more often. But I doubt that I will ever be able to do that much. I don't think DH does that much wt. I try to make myself go slow with all the wts but it is hard. You get thinking about something else and I take off at rapid speed. It takes alot of discipline.
Laura, WTG getting that exercise in first thing in the morning. I hopeyou can continue to do that. It makes it nice to have it out of the way early.
Cindy, you did have a busy day. Have fun shopping today and don't spend too much money.
Kris, as long as you enjoy volunteering go for it. I'm sure the teacher is thrilled to have help. Believe me my exercise folder is not organized. Just torn out pages from magazines stuck in a folder. I wish it were seperated by body parts, but I'm not that organized.
Monet, sounds like you will have a permanent teaching job come Monday. Good going. I know you will be an asset to the school. The kids will learn lots about art. Not just drawing.
Boss is here, better get busy. Be back later.

Well, I have good news and bad news! Two more days and I'm off to the beach! :) Bad news=Rachel has now been diagnosed with syndrome X just like Sean! :( So, now I'm making appointments for her to tag along with us to the cardiologist and endocrinologist. At least I no longer have to worry about how she will get home when he has an appointment. I'll know right where she is! Her labwork is not as far off as his was when he was diagnosed, but because of his history they know what to look for with her. Bless their hearts, they get it from both sides! My side has heart issues and Craig's family has the diabetes history. Well, we'll just trudge along and do the best we can to prevent all the bad stuff that can come along later! :^:
Hope everyone has a great day!

Monet--Wow! What a beautiful fridge. Perfect for a "cookin'-fool" like you are. But how can your meals be any better. They have gotta be THE BEST already. :)
Jackie--So much depends on the machine you are doing your leg presses on. What kind of machine do you use? Is it at a gym or at home? Last year I was using a Paramount machine at the club my DH uses, and I could only press 96 pounds max. But just imagine a simple rope and pully system, which weight machines basically are. With just one pully, the weight is harder to lift. If you have several pullys and a good leverage system, the weight is easier. So many of the machines today are just like a dead weight; basically a weight attached to a cord, which you have to just lift off dead center. It's really hard. Furthermore, the range of motion of effective lift is not so great. That is, at the very bottom, or beginning of the pull on a leg extention machine, for example, it is VERY easy to start the pull, but almost impossible to lift that weight all the way up until your legs are sticking straight out. That is because the cam system of that machine has not adjusted for where your muscle is stronger or weaker in the range of motion of that lift. With a really good cam system, such as the Nautilus machines, the weight will feel the same throughout the entire lifting motion. So that also makes it more effective. The leg press I used to use last year was a Paramount where I lay down on the machine, and then pushed with both feet on a large plate, and my body would move back and forth away from the machine, with a lot of pressure on my shoulders which rested against some pads. It was very hard. The MedX machine I use now has an excellent cam system and there is no pressure on my shoulders. I sit up and slide the seat WAY up close to the plate, and just push with both feet. There are two weight stacks, one by each leg. I set both at 140 right now. I would suggest that you drop your weight back to 40 pounds and try to do 10-12 reps to a very slow 10 count out, and a 5 count back. You may see some real improvement that way.

What a couple of days. I'm exhausted. I worked 14 hours each Tuesday and Wednesday. TO keep a wake, I wore my pedometer and walked around the display floor as much as possible. Tuesday I got in 15,000 steps and yesterday almost 18,000!!! It was great. I had nothing else to focus on, so I went for it. Actually did reasonable well with eating. The food is provided, but was mostly healthy stuff, except for the chocolate cake EVERY DAY!! I alowed myself 2 bited of cake a day, rather than scarfing down a whole piece.
Anyway, I'm still at my mom's house getting ready to leave. I'm going to go to the Y before my friend drops her son off this afternoon to play with Selah. I'll get on tonight and read/catch up on all of you guys.
Talk to you soon!

TALITHA: Good to see you! I have missed you. Way to go on the steps! That is awesome!
GATOR: Its a dishwasher, not a fridge! :) I would LOVE a stainless steel fridge, but my present almond colored one is not very old and an Amana..so it will probably last a long long time! What I need is to win one of those kitchen make overs...then I could get all the stuff I would like. I would need a full time job at twice what the school is paying me to afford to redo the kitchen....

Talitha: Good to see you
Monet: I love that story about the speeding picture thingy. Must've been a small town!!
Thin: What is syndrome X? Sounds...horrendous?!
Gator: You really and truly should become a personal trainer, like at a Y or something. You would be fabulous and I'd hire you in a second!! You could make a fortune!!
Jack: An 85' houseboat? Wow, you guys could stay on that thing for a week! We have the perfect place for boats like that up here. On the other side of the river is Canada and there is a canal there called the Rideau Canal that was man-made by Irish prisoners of war (at least I'm relatively confident on that...history isn't my strong point) during the early days of Canada. Anyhow, lest I sound truly ignorant...this canal basically connects Kingston to Ottawa via connecting lakes and the man-made canals and using hand operated locks to handle the varying water levels. It is so fun to cruise up and down that canal. Actually, we've only gone as far as Smith's Falls where there is a Hershey Factory and then head back. We went in a house boat about 15 years ago and it took us a full week to get there and back. What a fun way to travel the waterways, in a houseboat! :D
Okay...my breakfast was coffee...I had to go shopping today and didn't have a THING to eat that was legal. So when I got home, I made the quickie pizza that's showing in the recipe section with a soy pita and sauce, cheese, broccoli and green peppers with some really awesome grapes. Dinner is still up in the air as I'm planning fish, but have to wait to see if DH gets home at a reasonable hour. We'll see. Okay...off to wait for DD to get off the bus!! C-yas!!

OK, I'm taking a little break and thought I'd check in.
Monet--I knew that!!! :) It's a dishwasher, not a fridge. I knew that! Just had a brain cramp. My fridge is always so full that I think "fridge" more than dishwasher, but I couldn't do w/o my dishwasher. I bet it is quiet. It looks beeeutiful.
Well, I've gotten the salmon poached, and chilling in the fridge (not the dishwasher :) ) and am gonna make the yogurt-cucumber sauce in just a minute. Have the beans with sun dried tomato pesto finished and chilling. I bought the stuff for the salad and also went to a fabulous artisanal bakery for some wonderful chewey and crusty bread. Sourdough and Italian. I have the olives that I got from the olive bar at Fresh Market, and have the cheese ready to pack. Just have to roast the small piece of filet and will be done.
Got my weight training in today. The guy had me do quite a few negatives and isometric type upper body routines, where I just held the weight for one minute. If the weight is heavy, one minute seems like an hour. One way to do a really neat quadraceps (thigh muscle) is to "sit on the wall" where you lean up against a wall and then slide your bottom down the wall until your knees are at a 90° angle, kind of like you are sitting on a chair that is pushed right up against the wall. It works easiest if you plant your feet quite a ways from the wall; that is, start them out farther than you would think. "Sit" this way for one minute--See if you can do it! I'd be interested in seeing everyone's results. For more difficulty, hold a 10 or 20 pound weight in each hand. Or "sit" longer.
Gotta go fix the last of the stuff and then clean up. Ugh.

Just checking in before I leave. I' mstarving today for seom reason. My peach I had for lunch was too mushy and couldn't eat it. I shared a co-workers peach a little.
Thin, so sorry to hear about your DD. At least you are doing things now to prevent worse things from happening later.
Monet, pretty dishwasher. I love the stainless steel look.
Gator, My machine at home is a Body Solid. It is the pulley type. I have used the ones where you lay on your back. I don't like them. Mine you have to use both legs at once. Now I don't feel like such a sissy. I'll give your suggestion a try. What's a negative? I used to do wall squats daily. Even do them in the shower. I did not do the hold part though. I know that is tougher. It really helps to have a good wall. I didn't slide well on my painted walls. The doors here at work are great to do them on. I will have to get back to doing them. Thanks.
Talitha, Good job on your steps and eating too.
Country, where are you???
Bob, how is the job going?
I know there are others missing, Susan, etc. Please come back.
Have a great evening.

Good afternoon:
I took the girls to school (carpooling with one of Britt's friends and her sister) and then Lane to the park to play until her preschool started at 9 a.m. I then went to the gym, and the trainer was running late, so I worked out by myself. I did the treadmill for 30 minutes and then kinda just familiarized myself with some of the other equipment; there is so much and it is so overwhelming. I got a decent workout in. I will walk the track tomorrow while Lane is tumbling, and them will go to the gym Saturday. Next week won't be great for working out. I will take Lane with me on Monday. I have to volunteer at her school on Tuesday, and then have a meeting at her school on Thursday. The next week s/b better. I will try to do some workouts at home next week.
I went out with some other moms last night; we went to California Pizza Kitchen. I had a half salad, but we then all went to Rocky Mountain and got some caramel apples. I shared one with one of the moms. I have done well with eating today so far.
Tech: What a cute story about Kyle and the girls. I volunteer for the first time next week, but it won't be in Lane's class; they don't let you in their class for the first month until the kids get used to being there without you. I will volunteer in one of the other preschool classes. I am looking forward to it...they are so young and sweet and innocent. Lane told me the other day, "I am happy, happy, happy when I am at school." I guess I don't have to worry about her not liking school, eh? I did get a picture of myself with the ticket; there is no denying that it was me.
Gator: I think you will see better results with less weight and more reps. Working to failure produces the best results. Maybe this change is exactly what you needed.
Jack: Did your DH win the dough? A houseboat sounds lovely...have a fantastic time!!
Monet: I am so glad you are enjoying the kiddos; I am sure they will be extending an offer to you anyday. It sounds like fun. Glad your first impression of Laura's BF was a good one. Hopefully, he'll continue to be a good doobie.
Cindy: Painting is great exercise. I am sure your mom is thrilled to have you there to do that for her. Glad you found that perfect purse...always feels good to find exactly what you are looking for. It would be a great idea to have baseline numbers (BF, weight, measurements, etc...) to look back on in a few months. Familiarizing yourself with the equipment will also make better workouts for you, so you really should schedule that appt.
Thin: I am so sorry to hear about your childrens' health problems. Good luck with all that. Have a fun trip!
Talitha: You did awesome with your steps and your eating. Did you join the Y?
I gotta go; I'll try to check in later.

GATOR: I can tell you my results on 'wall squats' without even attempting one. My knees would never make it! Seriously! There are a lot of exercises I can't do because of my lupus. I go in spurts with the joint problems and they are always worse in season changes...don't know why...so now that fall is in the air, and getting more so every day, my joints are protesting more and more!
Confession time: I splurged badly this afternoon and ate some popcorn. It was the Smart Balance brand with no trans fats, but still popcorn. :(
The scarf I am knitting is working out well. The yarn is very fuzzy and it feels like bunny fur when knitted.
I am supposed to teach a friend of ours a cooking lesson tonight...I hope he did not forget! I better try and get in touch with him.

Tech- Syndrome x is another name for metabolic syndrome. Here is a desciption off the webmd website.
What is metabolic syndrome?
Metabolic syndrome is a group of abnormal findings related to the body's metabolism. These findings include excess body fat (particularly around the waist), high triglycerides and blood pressure, and low HDL cholesterol. Metabolic syndrome is closely linked to a specific metabolic problem called insulin resistance, in which the ability of insulin to control the amount of sugar in the blood is impaired.1
What causes metabolic syndrome?
Metabolic syndrome is thought to be caused by resistance to insulin, a hormone produced in the pancreas that helps sugar (glucose) enter body cells, where it is used for energy. Insulin resistance means that your body cannot properly process glucose, so your glucose levels become abnormally high. This can lead to type 2 diabetes.
Sound familiar now? It's becoming more and more common in kids nowdays, so better to get it under control asap!
Hope all of you with young children enjoy helping out at school while you can. Mine want to make sure I leave before "someone sees you here!"
We are working on packing this evening and will be leaving early Saturday morning. :tired: We will be coming home the next Friday so Rachel will be home for her dance company's yearly performance at Riverfest. It's a HUGE arts and crafts fair here locally right along the banks of the Etowah River. Always lots of fun and a good way to go thorough too much money too fast!

Checking in again. Seems I'm starting to get into a routine. Good. I definetly have to make myself get up at 5, so that I'm thru exercising by 6 which is when DH and the kids get up. It usually takes me 15 minutes to feel like I can function(not a morning person at all), so I can't do more than a 45 minute workout during the weekdays/workdays. So I'm trying to just be consistent with it and alternating just aerobics one day and then some strength training the next. Like yesterday I did the 3 mile WATP(just cardio) and today I did the Ramp it UP which is cardio with strength training like squats, lunges, and some arm weights and abs, etc..Tommorrow I will probably just do the Walk and Jog which is 30 minutes but a very good cardio one because you do the equivelent to 2 1/2 miles. The last time I was at Wal-mart, I saw they had the Power Mile, just one mile, by Leslie Sansone. At the time I dismissed it because it's not "enough" for me. But now I think I will get it and on days that I feel like it, I will also do the power mile which is probably only 15 minutes(after work). My body has gotten used to working out daily and sometimes even 7-8 workouts a week. But now that I'm working I simply can't do the same anymore. So I think I will do my morning workout before getting ready for work and if I feel like it I will do a power mile in the evening on some days. That may make up for being so sedentary during the day at work. Otherwise, I don't know what else to do. I don't know if I'm eating enough or not. I'm really not that hungry when I'm working because my mind is pre-occupied. But I do make sure I eat something for bf and lunch although it isn't like what I normally would eat. For instance, today I had a sf yogurt this morning and a small apple. I ate a protein meal bar for lunch. For supper I had 3 or 4 grilled chicken tenders and a legal grilled cheese sandwich(they had grilled cheeses and chicken noodle soup). Sometimes I have a snack. I don't want to eat too many calories that I gain or don't lose because I'm not as active now. But on the other hand, I don't want to not eat enough cals so that my metabolism slows and hangs onto my weight. So do you guys have any input? I weighed myself at 5 this morning and didn't like what I saw, 167. I know it's because it's so early and my kidneys hadn't flushed everything out. But I'll probably start weighing myself at that time from now on anyway, so I'll just use that #. At least I'm not in those 170's like I was for a long time. Now it's time to get serious again and get back to my previous low(159). I still have time to meet my goal for the year(140ish) if I get serious. Gator- I wonder how much I can bench press, I don't have a clue? I just use 8 and 10 pound weights and do various arm and chest exercises, doing reps and sets. A good strength training and cardio move is doing squats and lunges at the same time you do your weights. Like doing a forward lunge and a bicep curl for instance. Alright, I've rattled on long enough, I got a few things to do before bed. MONET- Love the dishwasher. Wish I had one. Right now I just started making Ashley start helping with the dishes. She's slow but it saves me a few minutes and teaches her some responsibility. Goodnite!

Heart--Wow, you are really getting organized. I'm really impressed. I'm not a morning person either, and I really admire your getting up so early to get in some exercise. I really think it will be worth it, esp. if you are sitting at a desk all day. I bet you can find something on line about how to get exercise in while you are at your desk. Maybe your lunch hour can be a good time to get some stretches in, or some walking in. Good luck to you.
Jackie--I looked for a picture of your Body Solid on line. From what I could tell from the little picture, it looks like your set up is more a simple weight and one pully system. So that would be harder to do than some of the machines I use. So don't feel like a wimp!! If you were using something like I use, you probably could do a leg press at 180 pounds!!! I have been lifting weights for almost 25-30 years, off and on (mostly on). Most of the time I use machines, but occasionally free weights. Where I go now, it is all machines. As I get older and see some elderly people that have trouble even walking because of muscle atrophy, it spurs me on to continue the weight lifting. Also, it is good for my bones. I read about something they are trying for osteoporosis now: a big metal plate that vibrates. You stand on it and it affects all your bones and makes them get stronger. Easier than lifting those weights.
Heart--I don't know how much I can bench press. I have some kind of weird thing with my left arm, in that it doesn't work right. For example, I cannot lift it above my head or extend it out in front of me like I can my right arm. So, I'm pretty weak at some of the upper body stuff. I've had that ever since birth; the doctor who delivered me goofed up a little, I think.
Well, I have got to go. Still have to pack. The kitchen is cleaned and finished!! All the food is ready to go, and my DH will pack it up tomorrow in our little travel fridge. So, I'd best quit talking and go pack my suitcase. I'll see y'all Monday morning.

Dinner turned out fine. Jon came over and I taught him the method of cooking that my son in law taught us that he uses in the restaurant. Its a rapid saute method that works great for a fish filet, or steak or chicken breast. We fixed salmon filets, roasted some asparagus, and had collards and salad. It was all yummy and I loved getting lots of veggies and the good for you fish oil! :) Then we had some decaf coffee and chatted and caught up. Jon is such a dear...wish I could find him a wife! :)
I am about half way done with the scarf I am working on. I love the feel of the yarn, and I may go and see if they have a color I like to make a shawl with.
They are delivering the dishwasher first thing tomorrow, so I need to go to bed so I can unload the old one (which I ran one more time tonight!) and be ready for them!
HEART: That is great that you are getting those workouts in. I hope you can get a dishwasher eventually. We never had one when I was growing up...my mom got hers when I went off to college. There were five girls in my family and we all took turns doing the dishes. My mother in law doesn't have one, so when we are all there, we take turns....its good for your daughter to help. It does help them to be responsible. I don't know if I have any good input for how much to eat...seems to me if you are not really hungry at work, due to being distracted, then don't eat. Your metabolism will not slow down if you are eating three good meals a day, and working out. Our hunger mechanism is pretty good as an indicator...unless you eat and are hungry an hour later- that is indicative of insulin resistance, and hyperinsulinemia.
GATOR: Have a great weekend!
THIN: Have fun at the beach!
PANCHO: Enjoy the preschool next week! I am glad Lane likes it. Have your kids ever done those knitted cords with the spool thingie?

Happy Friday Chickies
We had a good time on the boat last night. We cruised to a Mexican rest and carried out food. I had a burrito, but did not eat it all. Too much wine though. The scale was up 3 pounds today. Hope it is food wt and water retention and disappears quickly.
We were going to the U of L game tomorrow, but I have a hair appt and it would be pushing it to make it in time to tailgate. Why go if you can't tailgate. That's my DH's belief. So we have dinner plans with some old friends that we don't see often. I picked the restaurant and I know I can get meat/chicken salad and veggies. So that is good. I hope I have some time tomorrow to get a work out in too.
Don't feel like working today. Think it's going to be a long day.
Nat, You are doing great at the new gym. I don't know if I could work out after 30 minutes on the TM. After 20, I'm worn out. No, we didn't win any money the other night.
Monet, I said the same things about wall squats. B/c of the arthritis in my knees. But my trainer said weak knees were my problem. You would be amazed how many you can do after you build up those knee muscles. I don't think the popcorn is too bad. I have it occasionaly. I buy the single serve bags for 100 calories and that way I don't eat a whole big bag, b/c I would.
Thin, thanks for the education on metobolic syn. Interesting. Have a great vacation.
Laurie, You are really getting into a good routine. Good for you. Some days it is hard to get up that early. I don't think you are eating enough. Try adding some fruits and veggies to keep the calories lower.
Gator, have a gret time tailgating, Hope you get the "W"
Got to run,be back later, I hope.

Good Morning:
Let's see....we will be leaving for tumbling in about an hour. I will get my walk around the track in while Lane tumbles. I tried to get on the exercise board before this, but couldn't for some reason, so here is my exercise this week:
Monday: 20-minute Turbo Jam, lower body workout, Ab Scissor
Tuesday: 30-minute treadmill, wkout with trainer
Thursday: 30-minute treadmill, workout
Friday: walk/run on track for 30-45 minutes
Saturday: Will workout, but not sure what I will do yet.
Lane made a noodle/pasta necklace at preschool yesterday that she was so proud of. Within a few hours of being home, we heard our beloved Golden Retriever crunching on something...she managed to eat all the noodles off the necklace. Lane was soooo sad. So, in the midst of homework, baths, dinner, etc....I was food coloring noodles so she could make another one. She got to make one that she liked even better than the original. Thank goodness I had some "workable" pasta in the house.
I was "suckered" into buying some Ultrex and Cook's Essential cookware off of QVC & Home Shopping a few years ago. They were "supposed" to be non-stick and last a lifetime. They are not non-stick anymore, and some of the black coating is starting to come off. Needless to say, I am not a happy camper. I am looking into some more, and wanted to ask for that from my DH and girls for a X-mas present. My sister has Caphalon and really likes it, but I just saw that KitchenAide has come out with non-stick cookware (and they have such a good repuation). Any adivice/input/recommendations? I want something that is virtually indestructible, and can be washed in the dishwasher. My DH leaves things soaking in the sink sometimes, and I always forget about boiled eggs and tea when I am boiling them, and they often go dry....o.k....I get distracted :dizzy: .
I read an article in my SHAPE magazine that I wanted to share. You can take it for what it's worth, but I found it interesting since I had gone nearly the entire month of August without exercising more than 4 times and found that my jeans were so tight I couldn't button them......
A workout a day keeps fat away - Skipping one day of exercise won't trigger weight gain - but skipping two days might. Exercise suppresses fat formation, but only briefly, says David Kump, Ph.D., an obesity researcher at the University of Missouri-Columbia. He allowed rats to exercise daily on running wheels for three weeks, then locked the exercise machines, forcing the animals into inactivity. Within two days, fat cells in the rats' abdomens had gained 25% in weight and expanded 19% in size. Fat cells begin to store energy within one day after you stop exercising, setting off metabolic changes that lead to weight gain, especially in the abdomen, Kump says. Try to fit in a brisk walk at least, he suggests.
Monet: I'm not sure how the whole leptin thing works, but I can't imagine a little popcorn setting you off too much. Nice dishwasher; I'd be curious to know how it is to keep clean. I love stainless steel, but thought it would be tough to keep clean. We have black appliances and they are terrible at keeping clean. I guess with kids, everything is tough to keep clean ;) . I think Britt did one of the knitted cords, but Lane hasn't (she's only 3).
Heart: Good job getting up to exercise; it will end up giving you more energy throughout the day. I am sure if you keep your eating good that missing a few of those exercises won't affect you much. You may have been overexercising before, and sometimes your body won't lose when you are doing that. It sounds like you are very organized, and that is a plus. Eating at work has got to be tough...do they order out a lot?
Jack: I'm sure the scale will be back down soon. It sounds like you had a lot of fun. Enjoy your weekend, and your dinner out with friends. I usually only do 8--minutes on the eliptical to warm-up, and then do my weights, and then do the treadmill for 30-minutes. On that day, I couldn't meet with the trainer until 10 a.m., and I dropped Lane off at school at 9 a.m., so I had to do my cardio first.
I better go get ready and help Lane get dressed.
Have a great OP day.

I just got in from my volunteer stint at the church. After we finished the worship guides, we went to an Indian restaurant for lunch. It was a buffet, and I ate entirely too much! :o It was SO good! I did not worry about what was in things...I just tasted just about everything. I know I got some potatoes, and some white naan....at least the rice was definitely basmati! They had these little fritters made with chana dal and something else...I ate too many of them for sure...they were SO good! I may have to skip dinner.
PANCHO: Ok, you know I am a cooking fool...and I used to wonder what the big deal was over Calphalon. I thought it was over rated, and over priced. I needed new fry pans, cause my cheap ones were wearing out, and Amazon had a gold box special on a set of two Calphalons for cheap. They were the non stick Calphalon I type. So, I got them...and turned into a Calphalon snob! I have bought several other Calphalon pans since then, and given a few as gifts to my son in law the chef, who used mine and requested duplicates for his Christmas present. I do NOT put mine in the dishwasher, but they are so easy to rinse and wipe clean that its not a problem. Check out the prices on Amazon...they have the 8 and 10 inch saute pans for a good price usually...I got both in a set for about $25, which was quite a deal. I do love Kitchenaid, but I have not used their cookware. Check the ratings on them at Amazon. You can see what people who have purchased them think. What I love about the Calphalon pans includes their weight. They are NOT flimsy pans, but substantial and heavy. That makes for even cooking and more abuse taking.... :)
JACK: You may be right about the wall squats and developing the muscle, but I tend to shy away from things that HURT! Next time I find my knees calming down, I might try to hop in with some strengthening exercises..

Just checking in before heading home. We will go to happy hour, but I think I will be drinking diet coke. DH didn't get to drink last night so tonight I will be the DD.
Nat, my DD got Caphalon cookware for her eweeding gifts. I got some of her extras. But I have found some of the coating coming off them too. You have so many don't with them, no PAM spray, no water on hot skillet, no metal utensils. I have done all that and am still getting the peel off. Great info on exercise. I agree. Miss a couple of days and see a difference in your clothes.
Monet, glad to see we are to pros and conn on the Caphalon. They are easy to clean.
have a greaet weekend everyone. See ya Monday.

Hey everyone! I got an email from Kengjw (Julia)! Here is what she had to say:
Yes, the baby is here and his name is Christopher Jun Kin. He was born on Sept 6th and healthy as can be. We are so thrilled he is here and we are still trying to get to know one another. :) I am doing very well as the whole delivery was fast and much easier than with Jess. I need no stitches at all….woo hoo!! I am getting some sleep and coping well with the amount I have got so far. I hope as time goes Christopher will “love” his crib, that would be much easier. :)
I will try to check in sometime soon but I would appreciate if you could convey my message and thanks to everyone on the message board. I am glad everyone is well (especially those directly affected by the hurricane),

Just wanted to stop by real quick and say hi. Hope everyones weekend is off to a good start.
Yesterday was not a good eating day for me. It started out good then I got a horrific headache( Im blaming it all on that ) and the eating right just went out the door. The scale this morning really showed it to. Oh well. Not much I can do about it now but move forward. I stay on track most of the time so I guess I cant beat myself up too awfully much over one really bad day.
Im heading out to work in the yard a bit. Its so beautiful today. Feels like a nice early fall day. :)

Morning! I did get up early..made espresso, goofed off, spent time chatting with my wonderful hubby as we drank more espresso, ate some breakfast, etc. Breakfast was three eggs scrambled with cheese.
I loaded up the new dishwasher and turned it on for a regular load for the first time this morning. It is amazing...I can't hear it at all! The old one sounded like a Mack truck warming up in the kitchen!
I really need to get some stuff done today, but I am being lazy. I have tons to do though. What I really want to do is knit some. I am about half way through the scarf I am making for my older daughter...with the Gryffindor colors. The yarn is so nice and soft...makes me want to knit something for myself with it.
Guess I will get off here and go get something done....

Gosh, its slow here today! Where is everyone????
Tom and I went over to a new restaurant that opened near us...its kind of yuppified, and specializes in wine. They have a special wine tasting on Saturday afternoons - four wines for $5. They specialize in unusual wines. We got the four they were tasting today...a Sauvignon Blanc from Australia, a medium wine bodied wine from France, a red wine from the south of France with strong Spanish influence, and a Brussels red that dates to medieval times. My favorite was the Australian Sauvignon Blanc..it was light and fruity. It would be wonderful with cheese. We also got olive tapenade to eat with it...very tasty! Hopefully, we can afford to go on Saturday afternoons and enjoy the tastings each week. With the new dishwasher, Tom is saying we can't afford anything for a month or two! :)
That is what is happening here this afternoon...I think I may go take a dip in the pool...

Good afternoon:
I went to the gym this morning to take advantage of a posture analysis and thirty-minute massage they were offering to new members for $10. It was fabulous. I did not workout though. TOM hit with a vengeance last night, and I pretty much felt like crap this a.m. Does it seem to get worse before it stops for good? It seems like the older I get, the worse I feel when it is that TOM. I feel it everywhere. I also got to Wal-Mart, Sprouts, another grocery store, and got gas....I think I spent enough money for the entire month.
I got a letter from our credit card company wanting more information on the gym deal now. Once I found out they credited our money back, I threw away my gym contract and everything. I sure hope they don't reverse the charge again. I went into the gym to get a copy of the contract, and they can't seem to locate it (yeah, right!).
My DH has the girls at the park, running through the sprinklers, playing on the playground and riding their bikes. They s/b home soon..tired and hungry. It has been a quiet and relaxing morning for me....good thing, since I am so crabby today.
Monet & Jack: Thanks for the info. on the cookware; I really want to check out the Kitchenaide, and see what other people think of it. I don't want a pan that I have to baby since my DH is the one who does the dishes, and he will not clean it like it s/b. I HATE stainless steel. BUT, the ones sprayed with the black stuff seems to come off. I have seen some that are all dark silver, and it doesn't seem like it could come off. I'll have to look around a bit more. My sister got hers off Amazon too!
Well, I am going to go enjoy some quiet time while I can!
JULIA: If you happen to lurk....CONGRATULATIONS!!! We are so glad that precious baby is here, and that you had an easy and quick delivery. I can't wait to hear how Jess is adapting! God Bless you all and take care of yourself!
Have a great OP Weekend. Remember....WIM!!!

Has been quiet here this weekend. Everyone must be having fun ;)
We had a wonderful dinner out for our anny celebration. We took my mom with us and I ordered filet mignon , mom ordered pecan crusted chicken and we split each in half and shared. I also had salad and steamed asparagus. I had made a SF peach/apple pie to have later and am proud to say I didnt have a bite. Mom and dh had some then I dropped the rest off at Dd's house on the way to the movies with dh.
So we had a nice pleasant evening. Up early this morning trying to get my laundry out of the way and heading to moms and dh is going to mow while I pull out her fridge and clean the back and the tray underneath.
Hope everyone has a great Sunday !

Good morning! I am in the middle of fixing breakfast, so this will be short. We are having poached eggs, lean sausage, and coffee. Tom is going to run over to the store and get more half and half, since we ran out with our morning espresso.
I looked on the football scoreboard this morning, and noticed Florida won yesterday. I am sure BOB is not a happy camper today, and lets all hope GATOR is not too bad about crowing over the Gators' win. Georgia was playing some one I had never heard of, and won.

We are done with breakfast. I actually weeded a large planter out on the back deck. I am feeling horribly lazy. I loaded up the dishwasher and turned it on...I can't get over how quiet it is! I fixed Tom's smoothies for tomorrow and should fix his salmon salad for lunch, but I came up here with James to help him clean off the camera lenses he is playing with. His photography friend loaned him some awesome lenses and he is snapping lots and lots of pictures. I told him to do a portrait of me to use as my avatar. He keeps saying he will, but never does. I guess I am not as photogenic as the cats....

BOB--The game was awesome, and you have nothing to be ashamed about Ewe Tea. They definitely showed up!!! I still cannot tell you exactly how the Gators won that game, except tht maybe the Gator defense changed a few things at halftime, and just hung in there. The Vol's line, both D and O, was awesome, and quick, and big! We were lucky to be going into the half with a tie. We all thought that in the second half of the game, we would not be able to contain the Vol's O line, and that their D would just hold the Gators to 3 and out every possession. I do know that Coach Meyer really worked on conditioning and being able to complete that 4th quarter, which was greatly different from our recent former coach. As you remember, the Gators lost so many games in the last quarter during his tenure. The Gators' defense was awesome, but our offense has a lot to work on still. The kicker scored more points than anyone!! Being there was great: the noise in the Swamp was deafening. The crowd came to play! Don't get too depressed. I think the Vols will win the rest of their games if they don't get too dejected over the L this weekend. I think the Swamp will return to be a place where "only Gators get out alive."
Pancho--Here's my experience with cookware. I owned a wonderful set of regular Calphalon, for years. Then the non-stick was introduced by that company and I bought a set for myself and gave my son my old Calphalon. It still works wonderfully for him. The non-stick does fine for me, except for the saute skillets. When I sauté, I like the pan to be hot! The instructions that come with the non-stick pans say to keep the heat at medium. But that is too low for me for some dishes. So, after several years, the non-stick finish has kind of worn down, or gotten "tired" or something. I use non-scratch utensils, but the non-stick finish just has not held up over the years. I have purchased several more non-stick skillets and they, too, have worn out. My advice would be to purchase non-stick pans that have very good heat conducting properties and that have heavy bottoms. This will lessen burning. However, on your skillets, if I had it to do over again, I would just use the regular skillets rather than the non-stick. You can heat up the regular ones as hot as you want and you won't have to worry about replacing them because the surface has given up the ghost. As far as washing them in your dishwasher--don't. You will never have the best performance with them if you do, Non-stick or regular. With regular, you have to "season" it a bit, and the dishwashing detergent, etc, will remove the finish. The non-sticks will wear out of their non-stick properties sooner. They are not hard to just swish out with a dab of soap and a sponge when you clean them. I don't know anything about the KitchenAide because I have not been in the market for cookware. But give it a heft, and if it has good weight to the bottom and has an easy to clean exterior, it probably is just fine. Make sure the handles don't conduct heat when you cook on the stove. The early Calphalon's had handles where you had to use a pot holder just to hold the handle when you were boiling water. With the non-stick surface, buy with the understanding that they won't last forever.
We did have a great time this weekend. My DH played golf Friday with all his old fraternity buddies from college. They had a cocktail party after the golf, and I resisted pretty well all the wonderful hors d'oeuvres (one example--fresh baked biscuits served with ham). The tailgate party went well. One funny thing: one of the guests at the tailgate party invited a couple that we did not know. They brought a big tray of fried chicken wings with some sweet brown-colored sauce to dip them in. I could see that the American palate is geared much more toward something like chicken wings dunked in a sauce than poached salmon with cucumber sauce! :) After the game, at midnight, we sat around waiting for the traffic to thin out a bit, and drank red wine and nibbled Valhrona 70% chocolate. Mmmmm. Good. Since no one left the game early except for a few people wearing, ahem, pale orange, :) it was a mob scene after the game. We got to bed at 2 a.m. and finally drifted off to sleep about 3.
Monet--Thanks for passing on the news about Keng.
Cindy--Hope you had a great weekend and that you see a reward for your efforts tomorrow.
Jackie--Interesting information about your experience with your knee, wall squats, and getting strong. I really admire you and your perseverance. You've been through a lot this past couple of years and to hang in there with weights is impressive. The only reason I pay a trainer is because I don't like to do the hard work that is demanded from weight training, and I wouldn't do it if I didn't already have money involved. We play the 'Cats this coming weekend and there have been some interesting games up there between the Gators and Wildcats. Ky. has often given the Gators fits. Can you believe Vandy being 3-0???
