If I send you the list, will you send me the groceries?

Mine is really short, as we had a nice garden this summer, plus DH caught salmon. Plus store had a huge sale on boneless/skinless chicken breasts end of last month.

cottage cheese
yogurt
1% milk (see a theme here? Maybe I need a cow?)
veggie crumbles (hamburger substitute)
tea

That's all I can think of, but I know it'll get longer when I see stuff on the shelves!

Sure Pat, I'll be right there. Let me see ... I go about 10 miles a day and I'll probably have to get off and push in the Rockies .... I'd better check the dates on those dairy products

LOL, Chaps!! I do that with the snack food aisle!!!!

When I first started eating right I couldn't even GLANCE down the snack food aisle without getting seriously depressed. But now, I go down it ON PURPOSE and look at all the total CRAP I used to stuff myself with. I even picked up a large bag of Doritos last week and read the {{{ahem}}} "Nutrition Facts." Shocking, disgusting, appalling...I can't BELIEVE I used to down a whole (huge) bag of that garbage all by myself in ONE night!

What a great idea for a thread! It gets me started on the chore I hate the most!

Fruit to go in my cereal - bananas, blueberries if there are any left
Salad stuff
Fruit on the bottom yogurt
Meat that's not chicken -- my husband is starting to cluck!
Vegetables - broccoli, spinach, greens, squash, mushrooms

Do you like plums, Chaps!?

Low carb bread (though there's none lately in the store).
Meat (the kind varies every week or two...whatever I feel like).
Frozen veggies (different kinds).
Low carb yogurt.
Diet Coke.
White Merlot wine.
Raw spinach leaves (prepackaged) for salads.
Carb Options salad dressing.
Pork rinds.

Dinah - Yes, I do loves me some plums. Probably a little too much, but when it comes down to it, better a plum than ice cream or cookies. Do you know the poem by William Carlos Williams? "This is just to say, I'm sorry I ate the plums that were in the icebox..." Whenever I run out of plums, I imagine that note is left on my fridge.

LovesBassets - Nowadays I LOVE reading the nutritional info. Sometimes I have to get that close to buying something before I am dissuaded. I read the calories, then I stop and think how many I would have left that day if I ate whatever I am considering, and it always make me think again and I put it back. I can't believe I've become "that" girl! HA!

I looked for that sf/ff jello pudding mix ... I'm not sure we have it in Canada. To be honest, I don't remember which stores I looked in. Does anyone know?

ladynredd,

A tip on Boca Burgers...if you have a George Foreman grill they only take like 5 minutes to cook. I LOVE my George Foreman grill cuz I can't cook. Seriously. For years my cooking was limited to "Boil water. Add pasta." Hence, I was a (tight) size 18.

Boca also makes veggie breakfast links and Italian "sausage." Both are very yummy. I seriously can't tell the difference between regular breakfast sausage and Boca links.

Kashi Go Lean Crunch is YUMMY!!! Good choice!

A suggestion (to everybody) from my grocery list: Quorn is good, too. One of my favorites! It's made from fungi protein -- but don't let that dissuade you from trying it! It tastes just like chicken. LOL, I know frog legs are supposed to "taste just like chicken," too, but it really is good stuff. And you can do ANYTHING to it. They've been eating it for years in the UK (they're way ahead of us with the vegetarian thing). It's a bit hard to find in the States, though. I have to go to a local health food store and stock up once or twice a month.

Last edited by LovesBassets; 09-10-2005 at 02:10 PM. Reason: I wanted to explain Quorn

Susan B: Here in the States the sf/ff pudding mix is in a blue box right next to the regular jello and pudding mixes. I have a cup almost every day -- it really helps me get in my dairy allowance. I hope you're able to find them because they're good!

Loves Bassetts: I can cook, and do cook, but I love my George Foreman grill too! I just bought a new model that lets me set cooking temperature and has a digital timer for time so it's quiet. I'm using it frequently!

I've tried one flavor of Quorn so far (herb and garlic) and really enjoyed it. I used a recipe they had posted on the box where you cut the cutlet into strips and ate it with a tortilla, alfalfa sprouts and a little herb cheese. It was delicious! I have a box of their "chicken cutlets" waiting in the freezer to be tried sometime this week.

One of the problems I've had in the past was that I tended to get in a deep rut with regard to my food. I'm trying to make sure this time around to try at least two new recipes or two new foods a week so I eat a variety of foods.
