Support Groups - Please Join Us and Take on a Week At A Time Challenge #11

09-05-2005, 11:07 PM
The object of this thread is to take on at least one challenge related to your weight loss goals for 7 days straight. Choose whatever inspires you - a certain amount of water intake, no sugar, 30 minute walks, etc.

I will award accolades for each day you maintain your goal(s), and 7 day winner awards and pounds down at the end of the week. We will begin each challenge on Monday - you can choose a new challenge or repeat any challenge for extra mileage. If you would like to stretch yourself, take on more than one challenge.

We will support each other keeping in mind to stay focussed on our successes and/or challenges of the day and week related to our weight loss. There are plenty of threads where a lot of time is spent on personal stories, so let's try to keep that to a minimum.

All that we have is right now.
Yesterday is gone, Tomorrow is not promised, and Someday is not a day of the week!

Hi My Lovely Ladies! I am still here. I was so busy and tired - I thought it was Sunday! DH has had me on another construction project - this weekend we were building a shed which took longer than we expected - the directions said it can be assembled in one day. HAH! One 18 hour day. Anyway, I am so tired and so sore - we worked in the dark 2 nights this weekend. I am not complaining - it was fun and I am loving that I am becoming Tooltime Jane - I have my own drill, saw, etc.

The garage project unearthed a family of chipmunks in our house! Our cats chase them but unlike mice - do not harm them (fortunately) so Greg and I caught 2 by hand and released them outside. I har another one in here so I better take care of it. Before I go . . .

Welcome  to our newbie AliLewis- We don't worry about "pound" goals - we focus on "doing" goals - knowing that weight loss (or inch loss) is a benefit. So you are on the right track!

Debi :cheer: for great success with your goals. I will give accoclades for your successes from last week on Tuesday. I am so off with the holiday!

Bonnie :grouphug: we are here for you as always! Think of how wonderful it will be the next time your DGD comes you will be even healthier and have more energy as you continue to achieve your goals.

Allie :cb: for pounds down! You are doing so great!

carla  you are so cute! Meow - the kitty is back on the prowl!

flipafart (?) are you joining us?

I have to run and feed DH and me - we are hungry, sore, and dehydrated - will chat more tomorrow and catch up on last week's accolades. Sorry for all the confusion with the holiday!

Carla, Sushi, MsCat, (where is?) Bev, and new buddies on here ... Deb, Allie ... I am very unnerved as I have been eating out-of-control since last Wednesday when we took my DGD back to Mass. I am so sad to be without her after having her with me for three weeks. She is the dearest thing in the world, and I miss her, and wonder how she's doing. We had such a wonderful time, and I wish she were still here with me.

I must get myself back together ... as of last Wednesday, I was 193, had only gained back four *summer pounds.* As of today, I was at about 199 (I know a lot is salt and water after eating for five days.) YIKES! I'm not worried about what I've gained .... I'm worried about getting my mind back "in gear" so I don't keep on eating like this ...:(

Good luck with whatever challenge you choose this week, girls! I think mine will be to get back to eating no more than 1500 cals. a day, and to get some form of exercise everyday, either walking or pool workout. Have a great week, all .... and thank you for your support, all of you! :^:

Hiya.. DH went into hospital for three days last week (for ten years and well, his whole life, he's never been in the hospital.. had pneumonia in June, they think it snuck back up on him and made him deathly ill.. it was scary) and was sick since Monday.. so I did well for most of it but ended up not eating one day except two small granola bars that morning.. which made me reaaaaally tired the next day. We just drove in from Beaumont. It's 10:30 pm now, we went to Emily's baby shower. It was great, kids had a ball fishing in my Papa's pond, caught their first fish!, got to see their great-grandparents, fed cows and gathered eggs, etc. We all have colds, all six kids and us. So needless to say I'm not worried about my challenge. Just saying hello. I have appointments for him and the kids tomorrow and Wed. so I'll be driving nearly all day both days. Hope you all are doing well, sorry to come and unload. Hope to slow down and can get back to worrying about myself a little. We'll see. (I did pretty good when I was gone, just didn't track it all. Think I probably maintained. I hope!) Have a great week. If I don't get back this week, I hope to start next Monday off with a bang! Hugs! (Oh yeah, if you want to see that article they did about me on, just go to the site, and sign in real quick, then log in with your password and it'll come right up as the featured story thingy. LOL. It's odd to see myself there, but neat too. Good motivation I think. Hope you get to go look at it.) Bye for now!

09-06-2005, 01:07 AM
Hey there Selina ... so good to see you here! Can you copy your article within a thread so we don't have to join/sign in on the site to read the article? Sorry to hear that your DH was in the hospital. I do not know how you manage your whole brood all by yourself!!! Sure hope everyone feels better very soon! Glad Emily's shower was fun ... :-)

09-06-2005, 11:00 AM
Greetings, I'm a newbie and would like to particapate in your on-going challenge. I have lost 27 pounds and have about 10 to go. It's too late to start today but tomorrow I'll clip on my pedometer and work on my daily 10,000 steps. Love to hear from you!

09-06-2005, 02:38 PM
Mornin' Lovelies! It's Tuesday, I know it, and I am back on track!

Welcome to our newbie  Bobolink! You can join in any day - no time like the present. I give kudos and awards for each day of the week you meet your challenge(s) and totals at the end of the week (Sunday for us). 10,000 steps - WOW! Great goal - we are behind you!

Soon2BFit :cb: congrats on your article - I have not been able to access it yet. Could you share the name of it - didn't pop up when I logged back on.

Bonnie :woo: for 1 lb down last week! We are starting a new this week so every repeat pound you lose this week still counts! You go Girl!

Carla :cp: :cp: :cp: :cp: :cp: :cp: for 6 days of goals met! We are with you during your time of loss :grouphug:

Allie :cp: :cp: :cp: :cp: :cp: :cp: for 6 days of goals met and 4 days of WATP! If it is okay with you I am counting your 4 days starting on Mondays Deb. It makes it easier for me to track with the rest of the group :^:

Debi :cp: :cp: :cp: :cp: :cp: :cp: :cp: for 7 days of goals met :bravo: and :woo: for 1lb down!

AlieLewis, Sushi, and Casper - let us know how you are doing!

09-06-2005, 02:43 PM
Bobbolink, welcome to our group! :) We are so happy to have you ...

Selina, I went through the registration process on your site, but did not see a story about Selina???????????? Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place? :?:

Well, I have walked my 2.5 miles for today, and have eaten healthily so far. I am determined to stay at 1500 calories or less today! I've had raisin toast with peanut butter, and salmon Caesar salad .... so far about 700 cals. That leaves me 800 for the rest of the day, and I have a very lean beef roast in the crockpot ... I can eat a lot of that for dinner for not very many calories! :p

Hope you're all having a good day!

09-06-2005, 02:48 PM
MsCat, you must have confused me with someone else. I have gained weight (not lost) in the last week while traveling, , but I knew I would. I just didn't mean to gain SO MUCH! Maybe next week you can legitimately congratulate me for losing some! :-) Congrats on getting your shed up!

09-06-2005, 04:50 PM
We are missing some folks out there!

Bonnie dear - I know you gained weight by the end of the week - but I wanted to give you kudos for the first pound lost you reported at the beginning. Don't worry - those repeat pounds will be off in no time!

Your beef roast sounds delicious. I am married to my slow cooker (and my George Foreman!). Have a great day everyone.

09-06-2005, 04:57 PM
 friends!

I am so glad to be here and believe me, it is helping me tremendously. :)

Got both of my challenges done for today already.

1. Walked down 25 flights of stairs
2. Drank 5 cups of water

Woo hoo - I'm done now till tomorrow 'n then it's time to start it all over again.

mscat, I'm so glad you're back [we missed you!]

Sounds like even though you've been doing some hard work, that you've really been enjoying yourself 'n that's good to hear! :)

Bonnie, how're you doing today with your calories and getting your exercise in? I hope good! And, am so glad that you're keeping on. :) :balloons:

Soon2BFitChick, good for you with not gaining any. I'm proud of you! :cp:

How's your DH feeling now? I hope much better! Also, I hope that you all get over your colds soon and also that life can get back to normal for you soon as well. :grouphug:

Hi Bobbi! Congratulations on losing 27 pounds - what an accomplishment!! :) :bravo:

Let us know how you do with your pedometer and your steps. I always thought that I'd like to get one but never have. What kind do you have and do you recommend it?

Bonnie, I just read your last post and way to go with getting your exercise in. It also sounds like you're doing really good with your calories as well. Keep up the good work! :) :)

I hope you're all having a good day!

09-06-2005, 05:43 PM
:grouphug: Hello Everyone!

So far I am on track. Every day I have had 8 glasses of water. Yesterday I did my WATP 2miles, this was amazing because I have been sick with the flu all weekend and yesterday, I felt like crap. Knowing I was going to report into you ladies helped me get through the 30 minutes.

:thanks: Thanks for your support! It really does help keep me from giving up.

09-07-2005, 08:49 AM
Good morning, ladies. Back again to report that my weight has dropped from 198 to 196 lbs. (more of that salt and water coming off) as of today. Challenge-wise, I have good news and bad news. The good news is that I met my exercise goal yesterday, BUT I ate 2000 calories instead of 1500!!! :-( BUT that is much better than I have been doing, so I won't brood about it!

The weather is so beautiful here ... in the low 80's, low humidity, flowers blooming, birds galore on the bath and feeders in my backyard. Fall is on the way ....

Congrats to all of you ladies who are doing so well. Hope you have a great day today. I'm still somewhat down, and feel like staying in bed today so I don't know if I'll meet my exercise goal today or not! (MsCat, the beef roast WAS wonderful ... just cooked in chicken broth, garlic salt and coarse-ground black pepper. Could have eaten the WHOLE thing myself!)

Cheers, all ....

09-07-2005, 12:28 PM
:o In my above post, I didn't know whether I could. When I re-read what I'd posted, I said to myself, "You WILL get your butt out there and walk today!" And I did just walk 2.5 miles .... however down you are, it really never helps to just sit around, does it? :^:

MsCat, Deb, Allie, Sushi, Selina, Bobbie and Carla .... thank you for your support. It is much appreciated! :grouphug: to all!

09-07-2005, 01:50 PM
mscat, how're you doing today? I hope good and that you're not as sore as you were yesterday. :flow1:

Allie, :cheer: Way to go with keeping on track even though you were sick. I'm can't say that I would do so good if I weren't feeling good.

Bonnie, I'm so glad that your weight dropped and that it was mostly from the salt and water. [Whew - what a relief, huh?!]

Good for you for deciding to get up and exercise even if you didn't feel like it. I'm proud of you! :cp: :cp:

As for myself for today ...

I've completed all of my challenges so that's over with till tomorrow. [Yea!!] *lol*

1. Walked down 25 flights of stairs
2. Drank 5 cups of water

Bonus: I walked down an extra 5 flights of stairs for a total of 30 flights done! :cb: :dancer:

Hope you're all having a good day!

09-07-2005, 02:37 PM
Deb: Normally I look for any excuse not to exercise, (stubbed toe, broken nail, etc.) but I have this group to look forward to. It keeps me going. I am so happy that I have found you ladies. This has been on of my best experiences in getting healthy. :grouphug:

09-07-2005, 10:24 PM
Allie - :cb: for Tuesday! We are so happy to have you as a part of our group :grouphug:

Debi :cb: :cb: for Tuesay and Wednesday!

Bonnie :cb: :cb: for Tuesday and Wednesday!

and me! :cb: for Today - Wednesday! Got all my water in!

Have a great Evening and start Thursday out with a bang!

All that we have is right now.
Yesterday is gone, Tomorrow is not promised, and Someday is not a day of the week!

Today's inpirational message is from my favorite website "The Daily Motivator"

"To achieve, stop talking about it and start getting it done. To achieve, stop seeing every obstacle as an excuse and start seeing those obstacles as forming a pathway to your goal.

To achieve, stop looking for a quick and easy shortcut. To achieve, start putting forth the diligent, sustained effort that will create real value.

To achieve, stop complaining about how things have been. To achieve, start making the most of what you have right now.

To achieve, stop using your own words and thoughts to put yourself down. To achieve, start expecting the best of yourself, and know that you're indeed fully capable of it.

To achieve, stop pretending that you are someone else. To achieve, get connected to the authentic, unique person you are.

To achieve, develop a vision so positive, meaningful and compelling that you simply cannot sit still. Then get up, go out and delight in creating your own special greatness for the world."
-- Ralph Marston

WOW - that my ladies, says it all - have a great day - believe it, then achieve it!

All that we have is right now.
Yesterday is gone, Tomorrow is not promised, and Someday is not a day of the week!

09-08-2005, 02:35 PM
Just checking in:
I did the WATP 2mi on Wednesday AND I have geen drinking my 8 glasses of water daily. woohoo!

09-08-2005, 07:37 PM
Allie, I know exactly what you mean about the support here and it helping so much. I feel the same way.

Even days I don't feel like moving at all [or cutting it short] - I think then how I'd feel to have to report in that I didn't get my goals for the day done 'n that keeps me on track big time.

Way to go with your exercising and with your water. You go girl! :cheer:

mscat, thanks so much for the encouragement and the :cb:'s ... it makes me want to try all the harder. THANK YOU!! :)

Also, thank you for the daily message as well ... I used to read those every day but hadn't for quite a long time. Today's was definitely a good one. :grouphug:

Well - I got both of my goals done for today.

1. Walked down 25 flights of stairs
2. Drank 5 cups of water

I was going to do 5 extra flights but decided against it [I was tired and also, I think the extra 5 yesterday were a bit much 'cuz my back hurt a little last night and today.]

Hope you've all had a good day!

See ya tomorrow. :)

09-09-2005, 09:45 AM
Hi Debi, Nice to meet you too! I'm glad that you're glad I'm back online and here. And I'm back online from the long holiday weekend! :D

Thanks for the welcome back mscat and thanks for the :cheer: on my goals! Glad to hear thatyou have talked the situation over with your ob who did your hyst and you two have discussed surgergy as an option. Me too. Now I jsut need to follow up with an appt.!

Since I last posted, I walked 10 laps around the baseball field my son has his games at. My DH told me that I walked 2 miles. That was Saturday. Boy did I feel it! Suday we went to a cookout, but I danced so much to the good music that I hope I countered what I ate!

My son and I walked to the neighborhood store (all hills both ways). And I got the batteries for my scale! yesterday morning I wighed 168.5 lbs. I'd like to at lest lose 20 -25 lbs. Now all I need to do is figure out how to put a scale on my posts!

I managed to catch a headcold, so I havn't been doing much since Monday. :(

mscat cograts on your shed project. We are getting ready to redo the kitchen. My DH "says" that we will begin on tomorrow! :smug:

Hi AliLewis  welcome!

Hi Bobolink! Welcome!

Oh, I forgot to tell you all..... I bought some Weight Watchers desserts to satisfy my sweet tooth. Had 1 point value yesterday! :D And guess what?! I just went to the freezer and my DH bought a bunch of Healthy Choice selections! :D

I just went and weighed myself and I'm 168lbs., so I've lost 1/2 lb. of salt/water.

09-09-2005, 10:19 AM
I created my tracker, but I do not understand how to attch my signature! :?:

09-09-2005, 11:44 PM
Hi Friends! :)

I'm late in posting today but did get my goals done.

1. Walked 25 flights of stairs.
2. Drank 5 cups of water.

That's the good news ...

The bad? Weeeelllll .... last night I caved in and went to Walmart and bought a package of Stawberry Cheesecake snacks and ... :o :ink: :ink: I ate them. :rollpin: :tantrum:

I knew better than to buy them to begin with [I have absolutely NO sense of moderation whatsoever when it's something that I like.]

But ... the one thing that I am proud of is that I am NOT going to quit and decide to start again another time.

I used to be famous for going off and doing something like that and then just plain giving up and saying that I'd start again [I've always been a good one for ... well, I'll wait and start again the 1st of the following month, etc.]

This time though, I am going to keep going and am NOT giving up!

I made a mistake but I go up, brushed myself off and am going to keep going! :) To me, this is an amazing accomplishment! :cheer:

Casper, it sounds like you're doing really well with both exercising and with losing. Keep up the good work! :) :cp: :cp:

To put your weight tracker on here, you need to go to your "user CP" at the top of the page.

Then click on "Edit Signature" and in there is where you put your code for your tracker thingie.

[Hope that helps but if not, let me know and I'll try to help you more with it, K? :) ]

Hey Ladies - it is the end of the week and only one more day to go! Let's all emerge victorious on accomplishing our goals today and tomorrow!

Allie :cb: for Thursday's goals! Thanks for stopping in and letting us know how great you are doing. I love my treadmill - I think I need to get WATP too!

Debi :cb: :cb: for Thursday and Friday's goals! Good for you for recognizing your setback, putting it behind you where it belongs (in the past) and moving forward to the future! It is so awesome how diligent you are on stair climbing. I am inspired to start stairs at work since I am missing out on so much treadmill time.

Casper :woo: for your loss! Sounds like you are making walking one of your goals to meet each day/week? If so let us know how your doing each day or report on each day's progress periodically when you get a chance. Our week begins on Monday so you still have today and Sunday to earn kudos towards this week's goal.

and me - :cb: :cb: for Wednesday and Thursday's water. Going for the gold today too!

:grouphug: we are missing you AliLewis, Sushi, Selina, Bonnie, Carla, and Bobbi - hope you are all doing well.

All that we have is right now.
Yesterday is gone, Tomorrow is not promised, and Someday is not a day of the week!

mscat, way to go with your reaching your water goals! :cp: :cp:

Hello Ladies :)

Just wanted to let you know how I'm doing. :)
I'm not doing my challenge just yet... just taking things easy for now, resting and relaxing after the stress and craziness of the move (which went well, btw). I only have occassional internet access, and it's much harder without your support!
We don't have a place yet, just staying with my fiance's family for about 2 weeks before getting out on our own. Things will probably get stressful again, but hopefuly not as hectic. :) The good thing is that I'm sleeping great - hurray! I've been getting up to 9 hrs of good sleep, and am in bed by 9 pm at the latest (can't keep my eyes open longer than that!).

I'll check in again as soon as I can :)

Good luck with your challenges :)

09-10-2005, 11:37 PM
Hi Sushi!

It was good to hear from you and I'm so glad to hear that you got moved okay [and that you're taking it easy for awhile now. Good for you!]

Sleep ... uhmmmm, what's that?

I do sleep at night [but not well] ... I am positive that I have sleep apnea but though I had one test done -- I couldn't sleep while I was there and so have to wait now to get approved to get another test done. [Grrrr!]

Anyways ... I guess my point to all of this is that even though I do sleep at night [I've had no problems in falling asleep for a long time] ... but, I still feel like I haven't slept in years. :( :tantrum:

I'm not sure of what type of sleep problems you are dealing with but trust me when I say that I can sure sympathize with you, sweetie. ((HUGS))

Hurry back when you can! :)

09-11-2005, 03:04 AM
Hello Ladies!

For the past week, I did do my WATP for 4 days for a total of 9 miles.
I drank 8 glasses of water 6/7 days. Still feeling under the weather not really hungry or thirsty.

09-11-2005, 07:12 AM
Good morning ladies - I am taking Sushi's place - its 5:45 in the a.m. and I have been up for about 2 hours - unable to sleep. My current insomnia (and diarrhea :( ) is just stress. I have some work issues that have taken over my weekend and some contractor/construction project issues that have taken their toll as well.

I have to keep reminding myself is I really don't have any problems - my house is not under water, I am not staying in a shelter, I didn't watch any of my love ones slip away into dark waters, I have all my clothes and possessions, I have a job to return to on Monday. I am blessed to be able to get on this computer in the middle of the night and be worried about eating too much food and my treadmill collecting dust. How lucky we are! I am very grateful for all of you :grouphug: to have an escape. You all lift me up with your positive spirits.

Sushi - thanks for checking in - we miss you! We are so happy to hear you have been getting good sleep. Keep your chin up - I know how you feel. This is a cakewalk and as my mom always says "this too shall pass." We are here for you!

Debi :cb: for your Saturday goals! You are soooooo awesome!

Allie :cb: :cb: :cb: :cb: :cb: :cb: for 6 days of making your goals including 4 days of WATP! No wonder you are so close to your goal - consistency is the key - you are great example to us all.

Well, I will check in later - I have a full day of completing the shed project and hopefully working on the DD closet project and then cleaning my construction dust/tools/remodeling material ridden house for a staff retreat I am hosting on Monday :fr:

Have a blessed Sunday!

09-11-2005, 09:19 AM
This week, I 've been away for two days because we're dealing with the fact that my oldest brother has brain cancer, which has metasticized from somewhere else in his body. They have been doing MRI's this weekend, and will talk to the family on Tuesday. He is 72 .... and in very bad condition, I'm afraid. They removed a baseball-sized tumor from his head 12 days ago; I haven't seen him much or been very close to him or his family for years (wife not a "family person",) but when tragedy strikes, the years fall away, and you are reminded how thick that blood is! He's one of the sweetest, kindest souls on earth so it won't be easy to see him go ....:(

That's just one of the major problems we're dealing with at the moment, so I have been doing comfort eating, not getting my walks in the last couple of days, and am at 197! But I intend to do better ...:^: I remind myself that if I'll eat right and exercise, whatever is wrong, will seem just a little less so.

Congratulations to all of you who are doing so well ... Sushi, sounds like your move will be a good thing for you! Mscat, you are busy as a bee, as usual, with so much on your plate.... good luck with it all. Deb, Allie, Bobbolink, Selina, Casper, Carla ............ :grouphug: to you all! Have a good Sunday ...

09-11-2005, 11:12 AM
Well, ladies, I just did my 50 minute walk! Now we'll see how the calories go today. I'm having a country dinner with family over today, so it will be hard to stay at 1500...............

Happy Sunday, all!

09-11-2005, 10:31 PM
Allie, way to go for making your goals. You're doing great [Keep up the good work! :)] :bravo: :cb:

mscat, I hope you get to feeling better soon [and can get rid of some of that stress] ...

I just want you to know that you help to encourage us so much too and I know I appreciate it and am sure that everyone else does as well. :grouphug:

Sheesh - it sounds like you're sure a busy lady with the shed project, helping your daughter and then hosting a retreat on top of that!

Bonnie, I am so sorry that you've been having to go through everything that you have.

Bless your heart for coming here and thinking of us with all you have going on. ((HUGS)) Please keep us posted on your brother and if you ever need to talk ... know that we're here for you.

And way to go with getting a 50 minute walk in too. :) :cheer: :cheer:

Well - gotta get for now but I wanted to let ya all know that I made my goals for today as well.

1. Walked 25 flights of stairs.
2. Drank 5 cups of water.

I am so thankful to be here with you all.

Hello, it's me again :)

I hardly have access to a computer, and must use the limited time well - so please forgive me, but I won't respond to other's post (for now - hopefully things will get better computer-wise soon). :)

Just wanted to say that I've started my new weekly challenge. The move put me almost a full day ahead of everyone else, I think, so here it's already Monday evening.

My challenge for this week:
- drink at least 1.5 litres of water each day and finish it up before 6 pm (I've been bad with water the past 2-3 weeks, so I figure it's better to re-start slow!)
- not to eat after 7 pm
- be in bed by 9:30 pm

Good luck to everyone with your challenges. :) So great to see new participants. :)
I shall check again as soon as I can :)

09-12-2005, 11:01 AM
Good luck with your goals this week, Sushi! :) :)
