Hi. I have symptoms of PCOS but I don't know what kind of doctor to see to find out if I have it. What kind of doc do I go to and what questions do I ask him or her? I've been really concerned about this lately but I've been too afraid to ask questions. I went to the gynecologist a few months ago and I wish I would have had the nerve to ask then. Now I've moved to a new town and I have to get all new doctors. Do I see a gynecologist about this? What do I say when I make the appointment, when they ask why I need to see the doctor? If you are curious, my symptoms are: mild hirsutism, acne, overweight, difficulty losing weight, gestational diabetes, 2 large babies, depression in the past, and fatigue. I do not have a problem with my periods or with infertility. I'm currently on ortho-tricyclen which helps a little with the acne and seems to be slowing down the hirsutism a bit. I was hoping that the bcp would treat my symptoms enough so that I wouldn't have to go get checked out. Silly me!

If anyone could help I would really appreciate it.

You can see a gyno, but many have not had much luck with a gyno. You can see an endocrinologist, or a reproductive endocrinologist. The RE would be your best bet.
If you want to, see a gyno first and go from there, if you don't get the answers you want from them, then move on to an RE. They can really help you!

My gyno was the one who diagnosed me.

My GP is a twit, I suspected I had unsulin resistance and told her about the symptoms I was having including my weight issues. She assumed I was asking her for "diet pills", poo-pooed my complaints of hirutism and copper-colored skin patches, and told me to get a wax, go to the gym and go on a diet. I have a different GP lined up to replace her with.

My gyno on the other hand immmediately suspected insulin resistance before I even mentioned the details, and scheduled me for a glucose resistance blood test.

My gyno 1st diagnosed my in '99, but she only went by my symptoms and an insulin test...gave me Met and some BCP. I was like "what in the world am I supposed to do with this stuff?" That's why I decided to see an endocrinologist. She ran more test on me...test that were more specific in finding out if I actually have PCO or not. come to find out I have both PCO and IR. So I think it's best to see an endocrinologist or a reproductive enodcrinologist if you're wanting to get pregnant. HTH!
