Well, there's good news and bad news! The good news is -I'm down two pounds! The bad news is-I had a stomach virus over the weekend! I don't recommend this weight loss plan to anyone! Hopefully I can just keep losing weight without help from being sick!

Yippee! I actually lost a "real" pound this week. I lost the 3 that I gained last week while on our trip, and then another on, bringing me even lower. I made a new ticker.
Got my 2 mile walk in already. My DH and I hit the pavement at 7:45 and it was actually not hot out there yet. It is overcast and may rain. MONET--We were watching a golf tournament held in Atlanta, on TV, and saw that it was raining there yesterday too.
Football season is fast approaching and that is the season where the weekends will be "difficult" food-wise. We go to Gainesville for the weekend for each of the home games, and will be going to 3 out of town games, and I am more at the mercy of restaurant menus, etc. I don't want to just eat salad for every meal. We will be travelling out of town to New Orleans and to Charleston (the Univ. S.C. with Spurrier as the head coach of that team). Those two towns are eating meccas, so it should be "interesting." I'm already beginning to think about it.
My tip today is this: if you can't stand store-bought diet salad dressings because of their gelatinous texture, try my lo-cal home made version, that tastes like "real" dressing but is only 33 calories per tablespoon.
Use a Good Seasons salad dressing bottle, the kind that comes with a package of Italian dressing powdered mix attached to the bottle. Pour oil up to the line on the bottle where it says "vinegar." Then pour red wine vinegar or balsamic vinegar half way up to the line where it says "oil." Add the package of italian dressing mix, shake, and then add water so that it comes up to the line that says "vinegar." Voila! Lo-cal "real" Italian salad dressing. Store in the fridge.
Today is my day to study French. I have a lot of homework, and will probably spend most of the day preparing for class tomorrow.
I'm not talking about it today. The weekend was filled with bad eating from start to finish. We didn't eat one meal at home so it was all fast food.
We got my DD moved out into storage. The house is empty and cleaned and ready for the new owner. They will not have to make that trip out there again unless they want to. That was pretty much my whole weekend.
Of course being on my feet for two entire days, my foot it swollen and feels like it will explode. I have a call into the Dr. to see if I can get a shot or something. I have to do something to get back to walking.
Thin, congrats on the 2 lbs but sorry you were sick. Hope you are feeling better soon.
Gator, congrats on your real loss too. I hear you on football weekends. It is so hard with all the good tailgating foods. I'm dreading it too.
BOB, I am praying that you don't lose your job. It is always a nightmare when someone new comes in and starts firing people. Your friend can go on COBRA for 18 months. It is expensive, but at least she will have insurance untils he can find another job.
Be back later.

I was really looking forward to posting a loss this morning, since I had been down to a new low (since surgery and not fasting!) Sunday morning. Unfortunately, we went out to dinner last night after church, and I think we just ate too late. The scale was down a pound from last week, but up three and a half from yesterday morning. :( I also ate a BLT on whole wheat bread, and had a piece of legal blueberry pie for lunch, so I will see what tomorrow brings!
I was going to go out and walk this morning, but it is raining. Looks like it has been all night. I may go over to Wal Mart or the big mall and walk some later. Right now, I am trying to get James up and moving so I can take him to work. Laura has an old high school friend with her, and I have been teaching the friend to knit, so I want to be around in case she has questions! :)
Breakfast was a protein, blueberry, water, ff ricotta smoothie, and a cup of espresso with half and half.
As I mentioned, we went out to dinner after church. I got a greek salad with grilled salmon. My salmon was not done in the middle and I had to take it back. The second piece they brought me took them forever, and by the time they brought it out, I was done with my salad, and everyone else was finished eating too. I don't think I will order salmon for a long time...it was not a good experience!

First week back on the wagon has paid off. 3 pounds down from last Monday. See how good ya'll are for me. :) I just knew I was gonna blow it yesterday. I made homemade pimento spread for the very frist time and it was SO good. Nothing like the store but still really delicious. Two of my children don't like the store kind but said they liked the homemade version.
My best diet tip...hmmmm Don't run away from your support system. :)
Jack-K...((hugzz)) I'm so sorry that your foot is even more inflamed this morning. I hope the doctors can give you some relief.
Monet...Hopefully tomorrow the water weight will be back off. Down a pound is great though. It looks like some of the new methods you are incorporating into your plan are helping.
Gator...WOO HOO 4 pounds is awesome.
Thin...Hope you are feeling tons better this week.
Time to get my hinney up and get moving. I hope each of you has a fantastic OP week. And if you have to eat something that isn't the greatest that you jump right back OP.
Love and hugs,
Crystle

Happy MMM!! I'm down 1.5 lbs. I thought I would be up with the way I was eating (family in from OOT). I'm going to go try to walk. I typically can't do more than 15 min before I have pains start shooting down my leg to my toes. Not fun. I need to get on the ball about that Physical therapy.
I played BOulderdash until 1am with my family. It was so much fun. Anyone care to look up werdrobe? It's a scary one.
I'm sprouting grains to make my first batch of Ezekiel bread. I'm so excited!!
Monet-I can't remember what we decided about the DFM. I'm leaving Wed and back next Tuesday. Care to remind me?
Jack- Sorry about your foot. Pain stinks
Gator- I make a sesamee seed dressing that's really great. I should post it. Where can you get one of those bottles?
Thin- SOrry you were sick. Try to get some rest today!

Jackie--Maybe we can be "football weekend eating buddies" on those tailgating weekends. Actually, the tailgating is not all that hard for me because we bring our own tailgate and invite friends who like to eat good. Example: cold poached salmon with yogurt/cucumber sauce, fresh green salad, hummus and ww pita chips, fresh fruit salad, etc. It's the breakfasts at the inn and going out for dinner after the game, or lunch the day after, or dinner on Friday night. And one weekend we are going to all the festivities for the opening of the new law school building and there are 2 dinners and one cocktail reception. And when there is only one choice of food (eat it or eat nothing) then that is really hard. So we are gonna have to collaborate before each weekend and get our ducks in a row before we go. OK?
Hope you can get your feet straightened out. It's gotta be frustrating no to be able to walk. My feet sometimes ache like crazy, expecially when I don't wear my orthotics, or don't wear my good supporting walking shoes when I'm on my feet for a long time. I get my DH to give me a good food massage, and that helps immensely. Jackie, is it a muscle aching kind of pain, a bone pain, a sharp shooting pain, or what?
Monet--hang in there. My DH is checking on airline tickets for me today, so if I can get a decent flight at a decent price, I'll see ya in September. :)
Crystle--Congratulations on the 3 pound loss. That's great. :balloons:
Talitha--Congrats. on the loss. You can get the Good Seasons bottle in any good grocery store in the salad dressing section. They normally have a couple of rows of Good Seasons powdered dressings, and normally have a row of the bottles. They are either in a box with a couple of packages of dressing in there with them, or just plain, with a couple of packages stuck to their side. They are a decent looking bottle for dressing, slightly decorative.
Howdy all.... I'm so excited!!!!! I lost 5 lbs. this week. So my giving up bread and fruit for a week paid off. Lets see how I do this week. Happy dance, Happy dance!!! B-2 scrambled eggs, V8 juice, S- few nuts Lunch- thin roast and cheese rolled in lettuce leaf... S- String cheese D- grilled meat and salad.
Thin- Sorry you were sick over the week end but yippee for the weight loss. Hope you feel better...
Gator- Congradulations on the weight loss! And thanks for tip on the salad dressing...
Jack-K- I'm so sorry about your foot. Its hard to work all week end and eat out... Hope this week is better for you.
Monet- Happy for you on the loss and hope more comes off tomorrow.....
Country- I'm with you stay where theres support. I'm trying to keep on the boards no matter what..... Wow 3 lbs. what a great loss!!! Woo hoo.....
Talitha- Yippee on the loss gal!!! Can't wait to hear how your bread comes out....
Well off I go.... Have a good day....

I noticed this morning my back is loads better. I think its because I took two doses (four each!) of ibuprofen yesterday. I am about to take another dose, and keep it feeling better. I guess the anti-inflammatory properties helped with the healing.
JACK: I am glad the moving is done...I hope the doctor can help. Maybe you need to rest it most of all...sit down all night tonight and make everyone wait on you, hand and FOOT.
THIN: That sure is a horrible way to diet! I hope you feel all better now!
TALITHA: We said next week, the 17th? I hope it will work out, but Tom is taking the next two weeks off for vacation, and we want to go camping a few days. If he wants to do some work around here, it will be easy for me to duck out and meet you! I will know more later...but you know me, I am so laid back we can work it however we need to. Is that ok with you?
COUNTRY: Congrats on those pounds! I can't tell you how much I appreciate having you back again! :) How are your tomatoes? I think I took over 15 pounds to church last night! I bag them up in ziploc bags and and hand them out to everyone. It makes me popular!
GATOR: Keep me posted on the September trip! That would be awesome! Congrats on the loss! I know how hard you work at it, and doesn't it feel GREAT to see success?

MMM...well, good news/bad news. I'm at 160, which after the way I've been eating is very good news. The bad news is that my DH got the results from his bloodwork in and his triglycerides are over 500!!! So, he's going to go on SB with me and is even going to have fish with me for dinner. I was talking with him about getting him up at 6am and riding his bike to the lighthouse every morning and when he's out on the road, he needs to use the weight room that it seems every single hotel has these days. He doesn't like to use them because there is always some schmoe/salesman/ladies man-type guy in there that is showing himself off and my DH can't stand that. But he mentioned being like "old people" and walking in the mall when he's out. So, we're going to be working on getting that number down...waaaaay down. I mean, in the 500's is waaay up there!! Anybody else ever heard of a Triglyceride number that high? My DH has been very dizzy lately and we're wondering if a severely high number like that could contribute to his dizziness. Anyone have any thoughts on that? Yesterday he was nauseous from it.
Monet: Bleh...undercooked fish in never good. Salmon is one of those things that, done right, is sooo good, but can go wrong easily enough. I had salmon in a fancy restaurant on our anniversary and it had this peachy glaze on it and it was simply to-die-for. And I think you should use yesterday's scale reading for today... ;) you have my permission.
Jack: I don't know about you, but I've always thought that moving and Big Mac's go together like Frankie and Annette. I'm not saying you had a Big Mac, but once my brother was helping me move and took me to McD's after and no Big Mac ever tasted so completely fabulous as it did that day. Hit...the...spot. And swollen feet always reminds me of being pregnant. My feet swelled up to the point they looked like a couple of small hams!! If I happened to be wearing shoes and took them off when they were swollen, it looked like I had invisible shoes on and they jiggled like jello when I walked. Completely grossed me out!! The only thing that helped was eventually giving birth...sorry, I don't think that's your answer... I hope your doctor can give you a pill or something...
Gator: :cheer: Way to go on the loss!! That is fabulous!! Isn't making new tickers fun? We're anxious to get football season going, too. But we're more pro football fans...I'm a tried and true Bills fan and my DH is a Raiders fan. When I was 14, I met Joe Ferguson (the old quarterback in the early 80's). My daughter gets mad when we have the games on and goes to her room...hates every second of it. Which makes my DH like it even more!! My DH is a Bills fan, too...but has been a Raiders fan longer, being he's from CA. And thanks for the salad dressing tip. Yes, some of those diet salad dressings are pretty gross... :p
Thin: Well, at least there's a silverish lining to you're being sick. Not exactly the preferred way of losing a few, but take it, nonetheless...hope you're feeling better today...
Crystle: :cheer: 3 pounds!! That is a nice step in the right direction!! And you're right..no running away from your support system. We miss you too much!! :(
Talitha: What is Ezekiel bread? Sounds complicated. AND...nice loss for you, too!! :cheer: Why are you needing physical therapy? I'd get on that...you need/deserve to be able to diet properly...the benefits to it far outweigh just weightloss.
And I guess it's time for my dieting tip?: Just because you put a cup and a half of walnuts in your brownie mix for the added Omega 3, doesn't mean they're now healthy!! Does this give you a clue as to my eating habits over the weekend?
BF: 3-4 strawberries, a bunch of grapes and 3 sausage links on George Foreman.
Lunch: will be a strawberry/blueberrie smoothie
Dinner: Tilapia in WW breadcrumbs, sauteed (or, basically fried) in olive oil, sliced tomatoes and probably a salad or something.
Snacks will involve some cheese and triscuits.
Well, I'm really proud of all our losers this week. I'm proud of everyone that's been on plan, actually. Hopefully, I'll be registering a loss this next week, too!! :crossed: No foolin' around here...with my DH's numbers like that, sticking to plan is now serious business!! :wl:
Toni: Hey!! You get the prize for most weight lost this week, I think!! :cheer: !! Soo awesome!! Good for you!!

TECH: I hate to burst your bubble, but walnuts do NOT have Omega 3s in them...they are high in Omega 6s. Omega 3s are found in cold water fish- like salmon (which I recommend being cooked first!). Tom's triglycerides were horribly high a while back, and the doctor recommended Sugarbusters. That is when I switched to it too. The last time he had them checked, they were really good, but I think his were in the 700's. Mine used to run in the 3 to 4 hundreds before SB too. Working out will help a lot, as will diet. Who knows what was up with Tom...he works out six days a week, and rarely misses. I think cutting down on carbs helped him a lot. He is all excited too, because he has been following a few of the things I am following, like not eating after dinner, and he cut out his oat bran muffin in the morning, cut down on protein and upped his good fats, and the six pack abs he has wanted forever are beginning to show! He HAS the muscle, but just could not get it visible due to the adipose fat over it. :) He is walking around with this stuck on himself smug look. Its SO cute!
techwife
08-08-2005, 12:40 PM
Monet: What are Omegs 6's? I've never heard of that one. Anyhow...I was laughing when we put the walnuts in the brownies (I made them to get rid of the mix...they were buy one get one free at Price Chopper a few months ago...I decided to make them and we all eat them before I go whole-hog on SB starting today...out of sight (or cupboard)...out of mind, right?) and I'm like, 'well, now they're 'healthy brownies!!'...kind of like the peanuts in peanut M&M's adds protien, so they help to offset the insulin spike...or something like that. Or when I ate jelly beans and said...hey, aren't beans a source of protien?? Anyhow...in layman's terms...what exactly is a triglyceride and how does it effect your health? I read about it on the American Heart Association website, but it all sounded bad, bad, bad. I'm sure it is, but I need a human like me to explain it to me. Do you think his Triglycerides being so high is adding to his dizziness? I'm sort of glad this happened to him...he desperately needs to exercise. He spends his whole weekend on the couch and I'm not saying bad things about him or complaining...but he gets into such a funk. He's a really hard worker and if he's not feeling well, I'm all for him taking a nap...but I've always thought If I could get him up an moving without sounding like a nagging wife, he'd feel much better and have a sense of "I accomplished something this weekend" when he goes back to work on Monday. So, hopefully a high number for him will spur him on to get that exercise he needs and get him feeling healthy again and active so he feels like he's living instead of just working and resting...working and resting...
techwife
08-08-2005, 12:48 PM
OH...and Monet: I like the visual of Tom's abs...sounds very Matthew McConaughey-ish. Which is ALWAYS good...I think you mentioned that his abs looked like that Stetson ad once. My Derek has a six pack in there, too...I just know it. If he got to that amount of weight loss...OMG...I don't know what he would think of it if he had a six pack. He's always been the chubby kid and his brother's would always steal the girls he brought home. I think he'd think the mirror was lying if he had abs like that.
Ellen
08-08-2005, 01:01 PM
TECH: Ok, let me see if I can explain this. You eat, your body digests the stuff, and your blood picks up the nutrients from the intestines and runs it to the cells. If the cells can't use it the energy, it sends it back out into the blood to be stored as fat. Triglycerides are those fats circulating. In all that I have read, it seems that the start of the problem is too much insulin, so cut back on the carbs, up the exercise, and the triglyceride problem SHOULD improve. (I hope I got that right, as its off the top of my head and I really ought to go read about it again before I speak..but I am feeling lazy right now) Perhaps if you get your hubby to walk with you, it will help. If his motivation lags, gently tell him you love him and want to have him around for a while. Triglycerides are probably a more reliable indicator of problems than cholesterol. They are also easier to correct. He needs to cut out sugar, and the bad carbs, like the whites, and cut down on saturated fats, and trans fats. If you have not done so, switch to olive oil. (you can get extra light with a very mild taste if you don't like the flavor of olive oil in some things...) If he will fill up on vegetables, and lean protein, and cut out grains, he will see a very quick improvement. I am not sure about dizziness...how is his blood pressure?
techwife
08-08-2005, 01:15 PM
Monet: His blood pressure was borderline high...but he's been on medication (atenolol?) for it and its now 120/80? The numbers that are right on the money perfect, at any rate. Which is fabulous news. But my dearest hubby's downfall is his job. Do you know the one-hour photo labs they have in chain drug stores like Rite Aid's? Well, he fixes them for a living and when he's done with a job, he's like, "hey, these Little Debbie nutty bars look like they'll hit the spot...and a diet soda", on his way to the next job. Or it's just too easy and inexpensive to get a slice of pizza and a soda for lunch in between stores. And then when he has to go out of town for a week, it's so difficult to choose a salad when they have so many good pizza/wing places in different cities or getting a nice, big steak. Which the steak wouldn't be bad with just a salad, but when you pair it with a fully loaded baked potato... :o . So, he's just going to have to let me pack him a lunch in my thermal lunch box and only eat out of that...I can pack it full of triscuits and cheese and some fruits and he can drink the yummy flavored waters they have in the drug stores. He is going to have to adjust the way he muddles through each day and I'm hoping he'll follow my instructions on how to stay OP with Sugar Busters...and now that he's had this number come down the pike, maybe he won't be sabotaging my efforts over the weekends!! Any way I look at this, it's turning out to be a good thing in the long run!!
I'm having my strawberry/blueberry smoothie right now...it's been a while since I've had one and boy, is it good!! I miss them!!

Congratulations to all our other losers :) ;) today. I really like having Monday for our weigh in day. It starts the week off either with a challenge and new resolve, and also possibly and good reading on the MM.
Food today:
Breakfast: homemade meusli---1/2 cup raw oats, softened in a little water, topped with 1/2 fresh peach, 5 cherries cut up, 3 strawberries, cut up, and several raspberries. 1/3 cup sk. milk
Lunch--one tomato, bacon and cheese sandwich. (1 s. WW bread topped with several vidalia onion slices, one good slice ripe tomato and then 1 1/2 oz. cheddar cheese, grilled until the cheese melts, and then topped with 2 slices crisp bacon and grilled a little more. Some leftover cooked broccoli. 10 fresh cherries.
Dinner will be 3 1/2 oz. pot roast in the slow cooker, along with a dab of lo-carb. potato, some carrots and onions, and a small salad.
Monet--Are carrots "legal"? What about cooked carrots vs. raw? In my SB book they are not, but I heard that they are now OK.
I'm still waiting on the plumber to show up. They called a while back to say he was on his way.

Gator: Hope the plumber gets there soon. I hate feeling like I'm a prisoner in my own home waiting for people like that!!
For a snack today, I had two thick slices of tomato on a slice of sourdough with some mayo. Sooo good.
Okay...of to get the kids in the pool!!

My dieting tip is the crystal light on the go mixes. They are the ones you add to your water bottle (just the right amount) and shake, shake, shake and you have instant drink. I got the ice tea. It is pretty good. I love water and only like something different every once in a while. And the South Beach cookies (oatmeal choc-chip) are to die for. Taste just like Chip Ahoy. Their ww crackers are great too. I use them to scoop up my tuna. I love the single serve bags it really helps control your eating.
I guess dinner will be burgers, navy beans and another veggie. The cupboard is getting bare and I need to get to the store.
snack 2 SB cookies
lunch was tuna, SB ww crackers, apple
BF protein bar,
Snack, summer sausage
Tech, you are smart to get back on track now before it gets out of hand. Plus with DH's health issues it will be good for both of you. It will be so much easier with him eating that was too. It will be a big adjustment to him and men lose so much quicker that us. BTW, they were Whoppers, pizza and do-nuts, not big Mac's and I don't think birthing would be a solution. Then I would be in a rubber room somewhere with more problems.
Monet, congrats on the loss, I bet tomorrow those other 3 will be right back there too. You are doing so great. I hope you didn't have to pay full price for that salad w/o the salmon. There is no sitting down at my house. I can't stand to sit around for one, and there is too much to do and no one else seems to notice. The girls play VB tonight to I will get DH to drop me off at the gate and hobble to the seat.
Country, See what coming back on here does for you. 3 lbs is awesome.
Talitha, congrats on your loss too.
Gator, I'm game on the tailgating buddies. Eating out is ok for me (at real restaurants). I can get eggs and bacon for bf and meat with salad and veggies for dinner. It's the snack/salty stuff that gets me. The alcohol and then the munchies. Now if wings/pizza etc are involved, that's a hard one. The pain in my foot is more soreness and throbbing. I can't put my foot flat on the floor, walking now on the side of it. IT is all swollen too. My toes are numb and won't bend. Fun stuff.
Toni, I am so excited for you. 5 lbs is out of this world. You are doing great now. You do win the prize today.
It is slow here and when it's like this allI think about is what can I eat. So I decided to get on here and get rid of the cravings.
Have a great evening everyone.

I went to WalMart and got in about 6k steps. Of course, I spent about $100 too! :yikes: I got a new bra, some panties, yarn for Christmas presents, two new pairs of knitting needles, some groceries, a collapsible hamper I am using for all my yarn right now...and cat food. I never got any lunch. I am starving, but I don't want to eat now, then again at 6 when Tom gets home, so I am going to try and last until dinner and just forget lunch. I may snack on a bit of chicken while I make chicken salad...but I want to get back on track here, and get rid of the pounds that popped back on, and see a lower weight than even yesterday!!! Thankfully, it looks like its clearing off, so I can walk in the neighborhood tomorrow instead of having to go to Walmart. My budget could not take another trip!
GATOR: Yes, carrots are legal. They are a moderation food, and are better raw than cooked. The original GI was faulty in that they used way more than a serving would be, is what I heard. So, if you eat two pounds at a time, they might not be ok! When they are cooked, they are absorbed faster, so that is why raw is better.
TECH: Definitely pack a lunch for your husband. I do everyday for Tom. He carries a strawberry smoothie in a plastic container, and a container of either salmon salad or chicken salad. The smoothie is his afternoon snack and the salad is for his lunch, along with a piece of low fat cheese, and a small unsweetened applesauce. He is a creature of habit and has been eating these exact same things for several years! You could get string cheese for your hubby...and if you packed him a nice cooler of legal fare, I bet he would learn quickly, and have fast results and that will motivate him even more. I bet if you threw it out here, you would get tons of ideas.
JACK: Oh, dear! I can always find an excuse to sit around. I guess that is why I am struggling with so much more weight to lose than you! Enjoy the VB game tonight! Just be careful!

Just a quick note. I just had the best spinach ever!! I sauteed a small vidalia onion in Smart Balance, then threw in the spinach, some sliced muchrooms and a handful of pinenuts. It was supposed to go with dinner, but I just ate it all myself. It was so good! Trav hates spinach, so why waste it on him anyway :)

Good afternoon:
I am so PROUD of all the losers this week; that is fantastic!!! Unfortunately I am not one of them....I was at 125# this morning; I haven't seen that number in months! I didn't even weigh yesterday because I knew I had blown it on Saturday night. I thought I'd face the music today. My DH and I went to PF Changs on Saturday night and had the lettuce wraps for appetizers and then I ordered the almond chicken with brown rice for dinner. We then went to a night club and I had three Smirnoff Ice's. I am hoping that I am retaining water due to the salt/additives, etc...
Before I forget....I keep reading about the health benefits of Kale, and picked some up at the grocery store yesterday, but have NO IDEA how to prepare...any ideas?
I took the kids to swim lessons and then to donate the food to the shelter, and then we went to lunch at El Pollo Loco. It was good. We are now home for the day.
Thin: I hope you are feeling better today. What a terrible way to lose a few pounds. I hope you keep them off though.
Gator: Congrats on the loss...that's great! It's great that you are looking ahead to football season knowing how difficult it is; it will help you come up with a plan.
Jack: I hear ya! It's a new week...so let's have a good one. I hope you are able to rest that foot of yours.
BOB: So sorry to hear about the lay-offs. I'll pray that your job is secure.
Monet: Sorry you weren't able to post your new low...maybe next week? What a bummer about your dinner. At least you burned a few calories while burning through that $ today, huh? .
Country: Congrats on the 3#'s!!!
Talitha: Balderdash is a lot of fun; I haven't played it for a long time. Congrats on the loss!!
Toni: Congrats on the 5#'s; that is fantastic!! Seems like a small trade-off, doesn't it?
Tech: That is very high triglycerides for DH...I hope he goes on SB and stays on it with you. I read that over 400 is considered very high. I know below 150 is considered normal. I'm sure if he makes a few changes in his diet, he'll see that go down.
Lane is having a meltdown, so I gotta run!
I'll check in tomorrow.

PANCHO: Oh, oh! BOB is the Kale queen! I make it too...I put it in the pressure cooker, and use a bit of water and some ham buillion, and a tablespoon of olive oil. Basically, it is a lot like spinach or collards. Here in the south, they like their greens cooked well done with seasoning... My mother in law would boil it in a bit of water with a few slices of bacon and some salt added. I think it would be good steamed too...but it has to be cooked a bit longer than say spinach, to be tender.
Dinner was a very small serving of chicken with brown rice, and a large salad with olives and feta cheese, and lots of tomatoes. I also had a diet 7up. I was totally surprised at how full I felt! I had eaten a couple bites of chicken breast while I prepared chicken salad...but this not eating inbetween meals is shrinking my stomach I think....fine by me! :)

TALITHA: The spinach sounds great! I am going to try that! I love spinach...I am hoping we will have room for some in the garden this fall.

GOOD EVENING EVERY BUDDY!!!
Gotta LOVE FOOTBALL SEASON!!!! And with that being said.....NANNER NANNER NANNER on GATOR!!!! Did you mean to say that you're going to the game in COLUMBIA WHERE THE "VISER MAN" STANDS GUARD ????? And that y'all will be staying in CHARLESTON????? :s: :s: :s:
For those of you who have joined AFTER FOOTBALL SEASON last year...this is just a small dose of what y'all will have to put up with until after the NEW YEAR!!! BOB. SUSAN, GATOR, MISSY, JACKIE, and yes, we'll include MONET.... Even thought we have to tell her when
THEM DAWGS WIN ONE OF THEIR GAMES
We all are HUGE SEC (South Eastern Conference) football fans, and sometimes we get into some pretty heated debates, but don't pay any attention to us when it starts...we're all very good friends and have been for quite a while now. We just don't each other's team from Sept - the 2nd week of the NEW YEAR!!! :s: :s: :s: I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!

I'm sitting here watching it rain outside. The rain is much needed and wonderful but if it doesn't stop it will keep me from walking. I really need to walk. I don't think I'm motivated enough to do a workout yet. My baby sister just had her stomach banded last week and is looking for a support board. I told her they have a forum on here for that but she seems interested in visiting the SB board. Her nurse told her she needed to eat like the South Beach diet and I told her it was very similiar to this way of eating.
Congratulations to all this weeks losers. Congratulations to everyone for keeping on keeping on. ((hugzz))
Jack-k..your foot sounds so painful. I don't know how you can walk on the treadmill at all.
Monet...my garden has came and went. The only thing I have growning right now is okra and it's doing wonderful. Most of my herbs are still alive but it's been touch and go with a few of the mints and a couple of the basil. My lemon grass is about 3 or 4 foot tall. It's pretty exciting to see it so big. I bought it off of ebay last year and it was barely 6 inches long. I thought at first it was grass sprayed with pledge it was so pitiful...LOL One of the plants I divided into thirds and gave 2/3 away. It is doing pretty good also just not as thick and lush. My cuban oregano is finally taking off. It has to be one of the most aromatic of all the herbs out there. Thank you for being you. You are such a blessing.
Poncho...the weight will be off before you know it. You're a tiny little thing still.
Talitha...you shoulda shared some of that spinach...LOL My mouth is watering. I LOVE it! Not out of the can so much but fresh or frozen...yum yum
Tech...praying for your hubby. 500 is very high. When mom's got in the upper 300's they started freaking out on her. It's amazing how a few dietary changes and losing a few pounds can help the numbers to go down quickly.
Gator...did the plumber ever show up? Hope it's all fixed and at a fair price.
It looks like it might have stopped raining. I'm gonna give it a few minutes to make sure and out the door I go. It the road isn't too muddy that is. :)
Love and hugs,

Plumber came and went and charged me $160, and I think I detected another leak down there!!
BOB--Yes, we will be staying in Charleston and driving over to Columbia for the game against Visor Man's team. My DS and BIL will be coming over to Charleston to stay with us at a very nice B & B and we plan to have a nice weekend. Everything depends, of course, on how my BIL is doing at that time.
I had my dinner od 3.5 oz. of stewed round with about 1/2 lo carb potato, and one small snack size bag of those mini carrots and one Vidalia onion, with the gravy that the crock pot makes. Then I succummed and had a small scoop of NSA vanilla ice cream with some Nutella on top. Bad, bad girl. I just was a little mentally down, I think. My DH and I went out for a walk after dinner. I have 12500 steps today.
Is anyone able to give me a good idea of what the weather and temperature is like the third weekend of March in Cincinnatti Ohio, and also in Columbus, Ohio? We are planning a trip up there then to a folk art show and need to know what to expect weather wise.
Yes, us "Suthin' gals" who love SEC football are waiting with baited breath to start rooting for our team and smack talkin' the other teams. For instance, is it my understanding, BOB, that the Ewe Tea Vols are having to change the team uniforms to bright orange jumpsuits with zippers up the front and 5 numbers across the back :) ;) instead of orange and white jerseys with 2 numbers across the back? I do notice, however, that they have been rated pretty high. Here's to a great season in the SEC!!
Well, I'm gonna go. Still have some more French to work on.
Let's see, isn't someone on the board going to school, probably starting about now? Hmm. who is it? I hope you have a good semester.

Ughhh. My house is a wreck, I have at least 4 loads of aundry to do, notincluding dialers (I use cloth). And we are supposed to be leaving for Illinois at 7am from my parents house tomorrow. AND, I have so much to do today. Haven't even considered packing for me and the kids yet.
SO on top of it, my team (arbonne) called an emergency Manager's meeting tonight at 5 in MORROW. Still trying to figure out waht to do with the kids. I am excited b/c I get to meet our no Regional Vice President. She sounds great from her emails.
I did Ok yesterday. Tryinhg to force myself to drink a cup of my detox tea when I'm out, instead of reaching for cookies, ice cream, etc.

Talitha: Wow...cloth diapers. I have dozens of them from when I was pregnant with my DS and I was bound and determined to save money and the environment by using them. And then he was born and I said, "fudge this!" and used the disposables. I had them on hand for my diaper bag. Those newborn poopies were just so darn gross. I was going to buy a sprayer that you hook to (after drilling a hole through) the tank of your toilet and you can spray the poo into the toilet and it all seemed so easy. I had visions of my nice white diapers hanging on the clothesline in the spring sunshine and all that. And then someone told me that the diapers nowadays are biodegradable and I said, save the toilet from the sprayer and just do disposables. My hats off to you...you are truly Supermom!!
Anyhow...off to make something legal. I weighed myself this morning and the scale was ever so slightly on the 150's side of the 160 mark. I went for a 2 1/2 mile bike ride last night with my DD. It was nice to get out an get the blood pumping.
Talk to you guys later...Kris

Good Morning! I forgot to weigh myself this morning before I ate breakfast,so I will be in suspense another day. :) That is ok with me.... I am just trying to stay on track and don't need the distraction of the scale.
I am almost finished with a nice checkerboard patterned dish cloth I started last night. Another five or so rows and its DONE baby! Oh yeah! I have four projects going at once and if I get bored with one, I go to the next one. I am dragging my feet on the scarf I started because I don't like the way its turning out...the needles are too big in my opinion, so I am thinking of using smaller ones, that I don't have! And I DON'T want to go to WalMart again! Oh, wait! I just solved my problem! My circular needles are just the perfect size! Woo hoo! I am in business!
Breakfast was a strawberry smoothie made with 1 cup water, 1/4 cup ff ricotta, 1 cup froz. strawberries, and 1.5 scoops whey protein. :hungry:
I have a friend coming over later, and I am going to take her to the Super H mart...the Asian market with the fabulous fish. Tonight, we have a meeting for church to attend. The folks who are hosting it offered dinner, so Tom is eating there, but I declined, since spaghetti is not quite something that fits into this program! I will eat before we go.
I am off to try and wake up James! (its like trying to wake the dead...he is SO bad! But at least this morning Laura got up and has left already! I have to count my blessings...)

Good Tuesday Morning Ladies.
My foot is still swollen. I am so mad. I heard from the Dr at 4:00 yesterday. He suggested I take one more methotrextate tablet (makes 8 instead of 7). Well that is fine and dandy but it takes a month or 2 for that stuff to work and adding 1 pill will not help this problem now. I can't walk, can't hardly get my shoes on and I'm frustrated. My ankle and hip hurt from walking on the side of my foot. I asked why I couldn't get a shot and she said he needs to think on that awhile. Easy for him, he can walk. I was very upset about it.
yes ladies we SEC girls are a wild group during the season. I also am a big basketball fan where most of the other girls are football fans. Probably because we have a great bb team and our football team sucks. But I will still be loyal.
bf: 2 hardboiled eggs, coffee (which I am going to eat in a minute)
snack, clementine
lunch, 1 1/2 hamburger patties, navy beans, clementine.
dinner: spaghetti, with meat sauce. No salad as there is none in the house.
I'm going to the store tonight. I can't wait.
Monet, your walks are very costly. I think you had better stick to the neighborhood. It is hard to go to Wal-mart, Home Depot and places like that w/o spending a fortune. It's like a magnet. I can't imagine eating the same exact foods everyday. Good thing you choose the dinner menu. Good fo ryou eating before you go out tonight.
Talitha, was that raw spinach?
nat, Kale, I love it. My mom always boiled it with some bacon grease, put hardboiled eggs all over it and boiled potatoes and served it with cornbread. My favorite meal. Now when I fix it I leave off the potatoes and fix sausage patties to go with it. I really miss the cornbread.
BOB, I was excited about the Monday night game last night even though it was pro. Are you going to the TN/UK game still?
County, what is banding your stomach? Tell your DS to join us, I'm sure she is as sweet as you. I can't do the tm right now with this stupid foot.
Gator, the weather in Cincy in March is cold and snow. Bring warm clothes and your boots. I am about 90 minutes from there.
Susan, too funny.
Talitha, I used cloth diapers too, but that was 22 years ago.
Tech, those cloth diapers you didn't use make great dust cloths. I still have 2 which are in pieces, but I keep using them. The ones you have to fold yourself are the best. I bet that bike ride put you under the 160 mark.
Got to run eat bf now. Be back later.

Wow I turned around and their was 3 pages of posts.... I should have got on here yesterday evening... Tried my first sandwich using a lettuce leaf for the bread and I was surprised how good it was. I'm still not eating bread or having fruit. My only worry is tomorrow I have an appointment at my heart doctors late in the afternoon. Its like 3 hours away from here and I'll be hungry and don't know if there is a set down resturant on our way out of town where we could eat. Its allot of trouble living in rural America some times. The towns are spaced far apart and they're little places. I hate my cardio is so far away. Guess I'll figure it out. Wish me luck on my tests. They're checking my cariod arteries for blockages. I've already had surgery on the left one and the right one is blocking up. So they keep a close eye on them. Well I just ate 2 boiled eggs and a V8 juice. I sure have a hard time with breakfast, for some reason I don't want to eat it. L-thin roast beef in a lettuce shell. S- string cheese D- Steak and a salad and a fudge bar.

Toni: I know how you feel. My doctor is an hour and a half away. I'd pack a lunch if you can. Another option for you for a little sandwich is to take your deli meat and roll it up with some low fat deli cheese. I heat them up when I'm home, but they would pack nicely in a thermal lunch box, too. Have you (or anyone else, for that matter) tried the Fruit 2 O water-type drinks? I love them. Don't forget the Atkins advantage bars. I love the peanut butter ones, but sometimes they can be hard to find. I know when I went to Walmart to buy some, they were out and the lady stocking things said that the Atkins PeanutButter bar was the #1 selling item at that Walmart. I found that amazing, myself. But they are good for a low carb diet. Good luck at the doctor!!

Good Morning all you SB buddies:
I hope your day is going well so far. I was at 123.5# this morning, so I am slowly on my way back down.
Today I have to take Britt to her Ortho doctor to have her feet looked at again and get her new orthotics for the school year (which aren't even working). We then have to go by Kinetico and pick up some filters. Both of these places are clear across town (should take over an hour to get there, if traffic isn't too bad). Next week, Lane has to go see her eye doctor, and I still have to get both kids to the dentist, but probably won't be able to do that before school starts.
As you may know by now, my new "goal" is to cut out all artificial sweeteners. I've done pretty well for the past few weeks. I found a new yogurt at the store the other day that I thought I'd mention in case you haven't tried it yet....it is called Mountain High. They have plain, vanilla and fruit flavors. They have the larger containers as well as the smaller 4-packs.
Here is what they have written on their container: Mountain High Pledge: Mountain High has been making all natural yoghurt since 1971. Our commitment to all natural means billions of live and active cultures, no artificial sweeteners, flavors, colors, starches or preservatives. Because we care about your health, we sweeten our yoghurt naturally with real fruit and crystalline fructose, never sugar. Crystalline fructose is a natural sweetener from fruits and vegetables with a low glycemic index of 23 vs sugar which has a glycemix index of 65. It is smooth and creamy and is high in calcium and protien. It comes in a blue and white container.
Monet: Thanks for the Kale tips...I'll have to try it. Have fun at H-Mart.
BOB: Howdy!!
Country: Hope your sister recovers soon from her surgery, and is able to maintain a healthful eating lifestyle from here on out. You are a great influence for her. She will basically be eating the same as you, if she is doing Sobe.
Fillise: Howdy! I hope things are slowing down for you.
Talitha: Wow, you sound busy!! Have a safe trip.
Tech: I loved the Atkins peanut butter wafers when I first started Atkins/SB. I took them with me everywhere...to birthday parties, etc.. If I knew that there was going to be dessert, I'd take one of those and just eat that instead. The peanut butter cups are good too, but I dont' eat them anymore due to the sugar alc.; it messes with my system too much.
Jack: You may want to invest in some crutches to keep off that foot for awhile and give it time to heal. Putting the extra weight on it is doing nothing more than aggravating it and giving you the hip pain as well. You may need to stay home this weekend and off you feet....those are my doctor's orders  . Thanks for the Kale tips/ideas. I found a recipe online that said to bring it to a boil, and then transfer to a skillet with some olive oil, onions and garlic and stir-fry it. I will give a few of these ideas a shot.
Toni: Good luck at the doctor's office today. Good job eating BF, even when you don't feel like it.
I gotta go do my hair and put some make-up on.
I'll check in later!

Pancho--Another sweetener you might check out is Stevia. It comes in liquid and powdered form. It is natural and you get it at the HFS. You could ask the holistic dr. about it to learn more about it, or Google it. I use stevia liquid in my tea, hot and iced and it is perfect.
Re. the kale, when you cook it, first wash it carefully. Then make a pile, one leaf on top of the other. Roll the pile up and, with a big knife, cut slices across the pile about 1/2 " apart. That will give you long thin slices, which will make the kale cook better and be easier to eat. Then boil the kale in a little flavored water. The way the southern cooks do it is to buy some smoked pork neck bone and boil the neck bone in a little water for about 30-40 minutes. Add some salt and pepper, and any other meat you want to serve with the kale. Then add the kale and cook until very tender. This may take over an hour. You don't need a lot of water because the kale leaves release a lot of liquid when you cook them. If you start with quarts of water, you will have too much liquid. Try it with just one quart of liquid, and after you add the kale and cook it for a bit, add more if you need to. It is traditionally served with cornbread, and the meat from the neck bone. The reason that the smoked neckbone is used is that it has always been cheap, and affordable for those on a limited budget. But it also tastes good. You just have to pick through the bones before you serve it!! You can also add collard leaves and turnip leaves to the pot, cutting them up the same way. I used to grow collards in my back yard and a woman who worked for me used to go out and "crop" the collards and then she showed me how to cook them. She also fixed the cornbread. It was G o o o o dd! Jackie is right, the cornbread is good with it, but there has got to be substitute.
Fillise--Tommy T's comments earlier this summer about the BCS selecting Nebraska instead of UA were right on!! I think the Plainsmen would have done the SEC proud in the BCS championship game. I hope they get that thing "fixed" because the system right now is really a mess. I believe that the reason they don't have a playoff system, like they do in BB, where JACKIE's team is always in there fightin', is that the various bowls are afraid they might lose some money. The $$$$ is a huge determiner. And now the NCAA has gone one "stupider" with their lastest policy. Although FSU Noles are to UF like the Tide is to Auburn, I really feel sorry for them. Will they be "the school with no name"? Will their tee shirts read "Property of TBA" ? It seems like the lunatics are running the asylum, as far as the NCAA is concerned. What is to stop them from banning nicknames like Tigers, Bulldogs, Wildcats, Gators, because PETA is offended over the wanton use of animal names just for the profit of a few during the playing of a violent sport? How are we mistreating those poor animals during the violent games. Think of poor UGA sweating on the sidelines during a game!! I guess the Gators could change their name to the "Fighting Suitcases" or "Fighting Belts" and the Tigers could be the "Orange Stripers" or "Terrible Tonys", but then that might offend people named Tony. Oh well, what do I know. This summer the poor coaches for the Criminoles, the Vols, Gamecocks, and the UGA's have had their hands full with "football players gone wild" and some of our teams are looking like a bunch of thugs, to the detriment of the sport and the universities.
Jackie--Hope you can get your doctor to take your foot problem a bit more seriously, instead of giving you the "take two aspirin and call me in the morning" routine.
Monet--It looks like I will be really coming up there! I'll give you more details next month, but I'll be arriving in Atlanta on Tuesday about 3 pm. and will have pretty much all day free on Wednesday. We are hoping we can get my DH's cousin to drive down from Carrollton to join us for dinner at some good restaurant in "the big city" either Tues. or Wed. night. We'll be flying home about 2 pm. Thursday. My DH says I can take the MARTA from the airport to the hotel, or near it, as I don't think he wants to rent a car. Supposedly everything is near where we'll be staying, and we can get our steps in when we walk to the stores! :)
I went for my third workout with the new trainer at the new place. He is pretty good, and does a different routine every time. I did all upper body today. He said next time is all legs! Did my 2 mile walk today, and will try to get my French assignment done this afternoon for class tonight. So I will stop now.
Thankfully this day is almost over. I am slow and it is boring and all I want to do is eat.
Toni, Good luck on your test tomorrow. I'm sure you can find a salad somewhere along the way. My dad had trouble with his caratoid arteries too. They never operated due to his age.
Kris, don't those Atkins bars contain lots of sugar? I only have 2 of those diapers left so I guard them with my life. Have never found a better dust cloth that I like as well.
Nat, stay home? Put my feet up? Can't seem to do that. I cannot sit around. I guess I am hyper. Plus if I sit too long my lazy legs kick in.
Gator, I just heard that crazy NCAA rule yesterday. People don't have enough to do. Probably the animal rights people will jump in there next and there will be no more animal names too. We already had that rule in Ky for high schools (american indians). One school went from the Red Skins to the Red Hawks. Our girls high school had to change from the Mercy Missles.
I messed up on dinner. DH has to get an insurance physical tomorrow and we should have been eating lots of chicken this week. But instead we have had red meat both nights. I forgot all about it. I'll make him drinks lots of water tonight. The better results, the lower the premium.
Have a great evening. Talk to you all tomorrow.
Have a great evening.

Whew! I'm exhausted! I finally finished my website. Check it out!
http://www.thisis.myarbonne.com
I'm seeing the end to the laundry, and I ate pretty well today. Protein shake for breakfast, with a scoop of extra fiber, and Quinoa pilaf for lunch. Yumm!
Monet- The 17th may be ok. Let's just wing it and see what happens.
Country- They make canned spinach? I guess I just never thought about it. I always use fresh or frozen. Last night was oh so fresh. I loved the pinenuts!!!
Gator- I've never tried Kale. I should do that next. Sounds yummy.
Tech/Jack- I love my cloth diapers. They say that theya re biodegradable now, but they aren't AND if you check every box of diapers has instructions that you should still dump out the 'solid waste' in the toilet before disposal. Why bother? I use disposable liners in my diapers. THey look like dryer sheets that line the diaper so that if there's poop, you just lift the liner out and throw it in the toilet. I keep a diaperpail with Oxyclean and they look dazzling white all of the time, even thoughI used them for Selah and now for Jake!! Check this out

Flying by.. Lunch was a chicken noodle soup made with ww noodles, and lots of veggies in my pressure cooker. I gave most of the noodles to my friend, and ate mainly veggies and chicken with broth. Turned out really good! In six minutes too! :)
I don't know what I will eat before we leave tonight...but I better decide soon as we need to leave in less than an hour! I spent the after noon making a knitted face cloth for the hall (ie Laura's) bathroom. I had found a cotton yarn the same color as the walls we recently painted, and used it and a natural, and it turned out pretty nice! I used big needles to get it done fast. :)
Not much else going on around here, so I am going to go do some thinking on my dinner and some knitting. I really should not eat for another hour and a half, but I am getting pretty hungry now. I guess soup doesn't stick with you as long as other stuff! Maybe I will eat some chicken salad. I do love that stuff...and I make a big batch every Monday for the guys for the week.
I will try and get back on tonight when we get home, but it depends on how late it is.

Good afternoon:
Just checking back in. I took Britt to her ortho doctor, and they are probably going to order her new orthopedic inserts for her shoes. We then went and picked up our reverse osmosis filters, then to Whole Foods (where I spent way too much), and on to Target. They had a little plug-it-in system on sale that you plug into your own t.v. to play 80's arcade games like pac-man, dig-dug, etc...the girls can play it in the car on the way out of town this weekend. We got a cabin up north and want to spend a few quiet days before school starts. I bought a huge salad at Whole Foods and ate that for lunch. I did eat 3 small illegal cookies though, but that's all for no-no's today.
It seems pretty quiet here today. We just got a huge rainfall for about 40 minutes. It has stopped now, and looks so clear outside.
Monet: Thanks for the info. on the Kale; I am going to try it this week; maybe tomorrow. I'll let you know how I like it. I hope your dinner holds you over; have a good time tonight.
Jack: Rent a few movies and sit on still for a change  !! I know, it's hard to stay down when you are so used to being on the go all the time. I hope your DH's physical goes well.
Britt wants me to go play with her hair, so I'll check in later.
Take care,

Just got in from the meeting. I will not even begin to talk about that....I ranted all the way home and poor Tom just sat there, kind of dumbfounded.
Dinner was chicken salad, and a bite of the chicken soup as well. I did ok until we got home, and now I am really hungry, but I am going to ignore it and go to bed.
Sweet dreams everyone!

Just stopping in, getting ready for my cardio appointment. We have to leave before noon to get there at 3:30. Wonder if it helps even taking a shower....LOL.... Just ate 2 eggs 2 bacon and a V8 juice. Don't know what I'll have the rest of the day. No news here so I'll just go...

I overslept...and got up at 10. I have not had breakfast yet, and its 11, so I guess I will just wait for lunch. I don't even feel hungry yet. I DO feel like I need some espresso though. I am trying to get both James and Laura up and I am getting sick of their going back to sleep. :(
I sold two books on half all of a sudden...I have not sold any in two months and now I only have one listing left! I think I will pull out some more books to list. It would be great to sell a bunch, and let it pay for my knitting stuff! (if I can make that much!)
TONI: I hope your cardio appt. goes well! Let us know when you get back! I am sorry you have to drive so far for it!

HOWDY! So how is everyone this fine Wednesday? We lost power last night for about four hours. By the time it came back on and I caught up on things it was almost 4 in the morning. I was totally surprised I didn't sleep in this morning. Jess just took out a ten pound bag of chicken leg quarters. I was too lazy to separate them before I froze them. So now they'll be eating chicken for a few days...LOL We are going to cook it in the dutch oven...no fuss no muss.
Monet..I'm sorry your meeting didn't go well last night.
Toni..praying you get a good report at the doctor.
(((((Everybody)))))) I'm sorry I don't have more time this morning. Gotta get moving.
Love and hugs,

Where in the world is eveyone at???? The board is so slow this week.
I was at 122.5# this morning, so I am starting to lose some of that weekend weight  . I also haven't worked out this week, and probably won't all week. I usually take the girls with me on Thursday, but they are going bowling with my Mom's Club. We are then going out of town this weekend, so I will miss Friday and Saturday too. Next week s/b better, and when school starts, I will be back on a real schedule.
I just ate french toast (Ezekial bread in Egg beaters with cinnamon and Agave). It was good, and I hope it will hold me over for awhile.
I am going to take the girls to Jump n' Play today to jump around on indoor inflatables. Britt starts school on the 22nd, and I feel I have to cram all this stuff in I promised  . We will go to the Science Center next week, once most of the other schools start back, so it won't be so packed.
Toni: I thought your appt. was yesterday. Well, anyway.....have a safe drive, and I hope we get a great report back!!
Monet: Sorry to hear last night wasn't as planned (whatever the case may be). Glad you didn't indulge once you got home; it will pay off, I am sure. Not eating after dinner was the best decision I have ever made....I am convinced it makes all the difference in the world. I will sometimes have a hot tea later in the evening, but try not to ever eat any food after dinner. It sounds like you got some much needed sleep. Have you heard from Ken/Julia? Is she doing alright?
Country: Sorry you lost power; what a drag. We lost power a few nights ago for 2 1/2 hours. We went out for yogurt to cool off, and then came back home. We had our flashlights going and our hand-made fans. I sprayed the girls with a mister bottle to keep them cool. They thought it was the best night ever. My DH went to get oil and gas for the generator, and once we got the freezer/fridge on the generator, the power came back on. It was pretty funny to me, but not to my DH.
Well, I guess I better go wash this face and do something with my hair.
Have a great OP day.

Happy Wednesday.
At least for me it is, it's payday :D
Spent quite alot of time and money at the grocery last night, at least we have food now. And I have no idea what dinner will be. How dumb is that?
Nat your trip out of town this weekend sounds so relaxing. Hope you all have a good time. You sure have kept those girls busy this summer.
Monet, sorry your meeting was not good. I laughed about poor Tom just listening to you rant. Truth be known, he probably wasn't listening at all. That's what my DH would do. Your stomach must be shrinking not eating before bed and missing breakfast too.
Toni, good luck at the Dr. Let us know the outcome.
County, now that's a lot of chicken. Enjoy. Better get some extra sleep tonight to catch up.
BF: mini ww bagel with pb
snack: green tip banana
lunch: salad with turkey, cheese, mushrooms, cabbage, strawberries
Dinner:??
I'll chck back later, time for lunch.

Just got in from running some errands. Went to the credit union, the post office, then home again. My neice called me earlier, and told me her magazine is going to use all my crafts! I was SO excited! I will let you all know when they decide to put them in.
Right now, I am considering backing out of a few commitments. Both are cooking big meals at church, and I am not sure I want to do it, but not sure I want to give it up and not be able to get it back if I change my mind. So, I am struggling with how I feel and what I ought to do.
I am feeling a bit nibbly, and it IS five hours since I ate breakfast, but I can't eat dinner for another two to three hours. :( I am drinking lots of water, and hoping that helps.
Laundry is on the list for the rest of the afternoon, as well as making Tom's smoothies and knitting of course! :)
Will check in later!

I now have blisters on my hands from walking Junior...and I had a screaming fit in front of a couple of houses that had dog that were barking to beat the band at Junior and he was doing everything he could to get away and 'play' with them. I was screaming at my DD, who was listening to her iPod, to take my shoes because they hardly have any tread and Junior was literally taking my skiing on them to get to the dogs. Then there were cars driving by and he was trying to get them...I was so stressed. So, I finally got him to the park we were headed for and he calmed down and I got him a drink from the drinking fountain (it's just a spicket with no bowl...it just splashes down out onto a cement slab on the ground, so...no...he's not licking the faucet where people drink from...just lapping up the stream as it goes sailing to the ground...he loves it!) So, anyhow...I was so embarassed...he used to be such a joy to walk.
I'm going to e-mail my uncle. He owned a kennel that held 50+ dogs until he decided to retire a few years ago so maybe he'll be able to help me when he comes up to visit next time. I'm ready to get a choker or shocker collar...or a tazer!! I know someone mentioned a choker collar, but my husband doesn't like them...so I say, good...then he can walk the dog!!
I'm off to go put something on my hands...I think I have some Solarcaine around here somewhere...

Okay, everyone...particularly Monet ;) ...I'd like to buy some vitamins and really start taking good care of myself. I don't want to go out and buy a whole ton of them or my husband will think I've fallen off my rocker, but I'd like to start taking some vitamins, but there are sooo mannny. So far, I'm taking a multi from Centrum and 1000mg of C. Anything else I should be taking...something aiming for added spunk and energy?

Hello all you wonderful SB people. I hope you are having a great SB day, with lots of successes.
Monet--Well, it's official. I have my airline confirmation in my hot little hand and hope we can get together on Wed. Sept 28. I'm actually arriving about 4 pm. on Tuesday, and I am hoping that my DH's cousin can come over from Carrollton and have dinner with us. If that day is not gonna work for you, I guess we'll just have to get together when the Gators come up for the SEC conf. game. ;) Anyway, I'm looking forward to it and to meeting you in person.!! I'll be sure to bring some peach conserve. I'd say that I'd bring anything else you want from Orlando, but I think Atlanta has much more than we do.
I have had a little "munchy" day also. Must be something in the air. Had some extra cherries and some pistachio nuts that were not on my eating plan for the day. And a couple of samples at Costco. I looked at the calorie info for the samples I had, and the stuff was somewhat caloric. One was those rolled up sandwiches that are pre-sliced. 40 calories each for those little things that are no bigger than a small cookie. Then they were demo-ing some mini cinamon bread muffins, like mini-cinnabons at the mall. They were 70 calories. I figured I had about 50 calories just there. It's interesting how absent mindedly we can just pop things into our mouths, without even thinking about it. A little here and a little there makes it easier for those pounds to creep on, and difficult for them to come off, at least for me.
Pancho--When do you find out the information from your heart test and monitor.
Toni--Hope your dr. visit went OK.
Jackie--How are your feet doing today.
BOB--We are thinking about you, gal, and hope everything is going well for you, especially at work. They HAVE to have SOMEBODY working there, and it might as well be you.!!! Remember to not solve your problems the wrong way, by just eating in reaction to stress and not to hunger. We all are pulling for you, Narda. BTW, only 24 more days until the season starts. Yay! Don't you wish you could be up in Knoxville 3 1/2 weeks from now! :) Who do the Vols play first? The big noise going 'round Gainesville is that "Urban Meyer looks great, yeah, BUT can he beat Tennessee?!" Thought you'd get a kick out of that.
Well, My DH is home, so gotta go.

TECH: Well, first off, switch from Centrum to Twinlab Daily One's. You should get them without iron, unless you are anemic. I order them online and they are dirt cheap at places like vitaglo, vitacost, etc. Then, calcium is an important one to have, and I would recommend Calcium citrate...those above places have it cheap. Get the Now brand...its good quality at a low price. Vitamin E is an important antioxidant... 400 IUs is ample. Mixed tocopherol is good if you can find it...I get mine at vitaglo. (Now brand) I take a B complex as well, but that is all I would recommend in addition to your C. The C will be more effective if you spread it out over the day, taking a dose every few hours. And as long as it is pure ascorbic acid, it is good. You don't need Ester C...its a waste of money and no more absorbable than plain old ascorbic acid. I also take L-carnitine, L-arginine, alpha lopoic acid, and Chromium picolonate. The most important supplement I take in my opinion is my Carlson's Cod Liver oil (lemon flavored). Its expensive, but I am amazed at how much better my joints feel when I am taking it! :) Does that help? Its just off the top of my head, I will think on it and let you know if I have any revisions! :)

Monet: What it tocopherol? I've never heard of it. I have my short list of Twinlabs Daily Ones, Calcium, vitamins E,C and B complex. I take my C one 500 in the morning and one with dinner as I read on the Vitamin C website you recommended said that you mostly only absorb so much and get rid of the extra, so you are more likely to absorb more if you take it in parts during the day. I think my list will give me a good start and will look into buying them at Vitaglo. The brand they sell at walmart seems like it's kind of weak to me...not very...you know...reputable? Maybe they are...but Vitaglo seems more like Vitamin central to me. You know what I mean...
Anyhow...I have a great menu day to post!!
BF...bacon and strawberries
Lunch...Strawberry/blueberry smoothie
Snack...green beans out of the garden :D
Dinner...two boneless pork chops and a whole tomato sliced with a dash of salt. I am officially being taken over by tomatoes!!
I've been drinking lots of Fruit 2 O...I love it!!
Okay...hubby will be home soon and I have to heat up his pork chops and get his salad ready...with a whole tomato on top!! ;)
Ellen

TECH: I don't know what tocopherol is...just that natural occurring vitamin E has a mixture of them, and when you buy it, it often is just d-alpha tocopherol, cause that is the cheapest. When you look at vitamin Es on vitaglo, read the blurb, and if it is mixed, it will say so. We get 400 IUs of mixed, Now brand on there... I have also heard water soluble is better, but they are hard to find.

BOB--Here's a nice surprise for you and I hope you get on the board to read this in the next hour: UT is playing now on Sunshine channel. The '96 game in Knoxville vs. UF.
Tech--Here's some info on tocopherols. First, here's a basic definition, and then a website which will give you clear information about tocopherol and vitamin E.
Tocopherol--Any of a group of closely related, fat-soluble alcohols constituting vitamin E and similar compounds.
Hi all. Well I was hoping to start back posting on Monday and here it is Wednesday so Ill just start with today. Im hoping so much that things are settling down here now. My sister returned home yesterday so now Mom is all alone at her house. I will be going over to have dinner with her after work on Friday and will probably be over there this weekend doing yardwork.
Im back on to my normal eating routine. Thats one good thing about working is I can stick to my menus and be strict. When Im home or running around ( away from work) I tend not to stay on track as much as I can.
Nat- Yeah, to school starting back up huh? Its been a while for me but I remember the summer got long by the end.
Jack-k- I do that too sometimes.. go to the grocery and then wonder what to have..lol
Monet- is the not eating between meals working? I've just been trying to have fruit as snacks, I dont know if I could go more than 3-4 hours.
Kris- I hear you about the dog.. I have one just like that and I "hate" walking her. Its so embarrasing.
Gator- thats great that you and Monet will get to meet. How exciting !
Well I think thats it for the posts today. Im hoping to keep up but I'll see how it goes. I really have a million things here at home I need to do since Ive gotton so far behind the past couple months. Have a great SB evening ! :)

Dinner tonight turned out really yummy! I lightly floured (with ww of course) sole filets, then sauteed them in olive oil. I took them out and made a lemon sauce with lemon, and a bit of vermouth and chicken broth. I was very pleased with how it turned out. I ate way too much of it too! :) I also had roasted asparagus. I fixed a salad, but did not feel like eating any. Tom ate it, and I hope James finishes it when he gets home.
Tomorrow, we are having the couple who got married a month or so ago over for dinner, as well as our daughter and son in law. I think I may make Pho, as I have a ton of Thai basil. I think I will also make spring rolls and Penang chicken curry. To make the Pho, I need to get ox tails. Gosh, they are SO expensive! For BONES! But they do make the best broth.
GATOR: Thanks for finding the tocopherol info. I admit I was too lazy to look...
CINDY: Its good to see you! How is your mom doing? Its always hard when everyone goes home, and they have to be alone. The not eating between meals has had its ups and downs, but I think it is helping. I did not think I could go more than 3-4 hours either, but I am determined to try! :) Its getting easier, and I think in the long run, I am eating less and feeling more satisfied than before. Hopefully, it will show up on the scale soon!

Good Morning! I finally remembered to hop on the metal monster. I was down three pounds since Monday, and another half from the low I hit Sunday morning. I feel encouraged, but of course, it doesn't count unless its still down there on Monday!
I just got up, and I have a ton to do today. The first thing is to decide what I am going to fix for dinner. I have company coming, and I know everyone would like Asian, especially spring rolls, but I am not feeling up to fixing them. I may make Pho, Vietnamese noodle soup. Then I can make a Penang curry with the chicken thighs I have defrosted, and use up some of my Thai basil. I think I will skip the spring rolls, which will make everyone upset with me, but its so much work and makes such a mess! I am just not wanting to do it. So there! :) I could also make beef Wellingtons... I have a beef tenderloin defrosted I have been meaning to cut up and freeze. Just been lazy I guess.
Its time for breakfast..according to my stomach! I will check in later!

Monet--Go ahead and count the 3 pound loss. We think it's great and hope that it is encouraging to you.
For all you "pears" out there (I'm definitely a pear) here's some good news from an article in the USAToday.
"Study finds some benefits to lower-body fat
‘Pear' shape could help protect heart
By Rita Rubin
USA*TODAY*
Sick of your saddlebags? Peeved about your protruding posterior? Thankful — not! — for your thunder thighs?
Then scientists might have some good news for you: A growing body of research suggests that fat in the hips, thighs and buttocks might be good for your heart.
These studies expand on what's known about the dangers of fat deep in the abdomen, which is found in “apple”-shaped people, vs. the lower-body fat predominant in “pear”-shaped people. Lower-body fat might not just sit there but actually might protect against cardiovascular disease.
The latest research, in the August issue of The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, involved 95 postmenopausal women. Researchers used X-rays to measure fat distribution in the women's bodies. They then measured their levels of blood sugar, cholesterol and triglycerides, or blood fat.
Lower-body fat appeared to have a favorable effect on all of those cardiovascular risk factors in women who were not also thick around the middle, the researchers found." . . . .

Hello all--this will be quick. I haven't been meaning to stay off the board, but am having some issues with my computer. I hope to have it resolved soon. Other than that I've somehow become the chairman of a large fundraiser in Montgomery at the end of September. This is going to keep me hopping for the next 7 weeks. At any rate, I'm doing well. Scale seems to be stuck, but I'm eating more than I should simply because I haven't taken the time to think ahead and plan.
I hope everyone is doing well!

Good Morning:
I am waiting for a "tile guy" to come tile our BBQ area that my DH built. I can't wait to see it all finished. The beehive fireplace is done, and all the flagstone is laid. Once we get him going, we will be leaving to go bowling, and then to pick up the girls' pictures at the mall.
I am back up to 123.5# today, and am not sure why, but I wasn't totally legal yesterday. I am not sure what to do for lunch. The bowling includes a hot dog, chips and drinks for the kids. I am sure they have nothing legal for me to eat. So far today, I have had cheerios with blueberries and soy milk. Dinner will be salmon, broccoli and rice. AND, then we head out tomorrow morning for a few days in the pines.
Toni: I'm thinking of you and wondering how your appt. went yesterday!
Tech: Just my 2cents, and not to get too overwhelming....make sure you get a good quality calcium that has a high absorption rate....like BioCalth. It is also best to take calcium at night (it is better absorbed by the body that way). I take one mid-day and one at nighttime. I buy a lot of my vitamins/supplements at iherb (online). They have awesome prices, free shipping on orders over $25 (I think), and they offer an online discount every time you order (6-10%). They do carry the NOW vitamins that Monet referred to, as well as the Twin Labs.
Cindy: I think the girls are more ready for school then I am; they need a break from eachother. I have had to send them to their separate rooms a few times this past week. So glad to see you back. Your DM is so lucky to have your support, and to have you nearby. Make sure you get your rest, eat right and exercise. Sometimes when we are taking care of others, we forget about ourselves. (((((HUGS))))).
Monet: Enjoy your company tonight. I am sure whatever you decide to make for dinner will be fabulous. You are such an awesome cook!!! I am so glad you saw a loss today; I hope it sticks for you!
Well, I gotta go fix the girls' hair.
Have a great OP day!!

I had my tests and the doctor will call if its time to get my caritods fixed. What was most exciteing I've been taking the new cholesterol medicine Crestor. I know theres been lots of controversy about it. But for me its worked. My cholesterol is at 140. I'm the girl that had it at 458 at one time. My doctor is happy and me to. Happy Thursday.
I am happy to report the scale is down 5 pounds since Monday. Like Monet, hope it holds until next Monday. Can't blow it this weekend.
I have to run out and get a salad or something for lunch. I was going out with a friend but she called and her MIL passed away last night. It will be a relief for the family she had Altzheimers and it has been a lot of work for several years.
Tech, I take a Women's Mega Vitamin from GNC. Supposed to take it 2x a day but I only take it once. Hope your hands get better. Our dog goes nuts when he sees other dogs. He isn't big enough to pull me though.
Monet, that's great about your crafts. Congrats on the loss. I would count it too.
Gator, I know where you are coming from. Since I have started counting calories, I am amazed how caloric foods are. I was thinking of snacking on some cheese and a little cube is 110 calories. I used to eat 5-6 slices. My feet are getting better slowly. The mornings are the worst. Hopefully by next week I will be able to get back to walking.
Cindy, glad you are back on here and doing ok. I'm sure your mom will be lonely for awhile. I can stay 100% legal at work too. Maybe we shoudl work 7 days.
Susan, hope you get some time to breath and get on here.
Nat, The girls probably needs to be back with some friends and give them a break from each other. Sisters will be sisters no matter how well they get along. Take a salad to the bolwing alley with you.
Toni, congrats on the cholesterol results, that is great. That was a long day for you. Get some rest today.
Got to run out. Be back later.

I just got in from the grocery store. I forgot to put on my pedometer, which is a bummer, since I tend to wrack up a couple thousand steps when I go...I just walk each aisle, forget something and go back to aisle 1, then to aisle 7, then back to aisle 1...you get the picture. :)
I decided to make stewed beef tonight, and make mashed potatoes for the rest of the crew. I will fix broccoli in cheese sauce, and salad. It will be easy, clean, and no last minute cooking. The couple coming has to come from way in town, and won't get here until late, so its hard to wait on them to do the cooking. Especially when my daughter and son in law will need to leave early, as they will both have to work early in the morning. (what ever was I thinking inviting them on the same night??? :lol3: )
Not much else going on here. I cancelled one of my big every other month cooking jobs last night. Now I have to consider the monthly one, and whether I want to continue doing it. I am leaning towards NOT doing it...but am feeling wishy washy about it.
Something interesting...when I first started not eating between meals, I was really hungry after a couple hours. It is getting a LOT better. I have another hour before I should eat lunch, and I am not starving yet. Its encouraging. I hope all this helps!
Speaking of eating, I need to go prepare my lunch.
Breakfast was a blueberry smoothie made with water and 1.5 scoops whey protein, and 1/2 cup frozen blueberries, espresso with cream. Lunch will be sauteed eggplant, deli chicken meat, a bit of mayo and some sprouts. I will probably drink water.

Well, where do I start? Friday morning...woke up to the phone ringing telling me that a good friend of ours died that morning in a car crash on his way to work. He left behind a 8 month old baby girl. Saturday evening...Boogie is sick, has a stomach bug and manages to dehydrate in just a couple hours, off to the ER, and we're admitted. Stay until Monday afternoon, have the funeral wake that evening. That was extremely hard, I miss him so much. Tuesday..the actual funeral, I only thought the day before was hard. Tuesday evening...we are told that another good friend's cousin has died. We knew him but not very well. Just enough to know he was a good man. Only the good die young rings true at this point. What is so eerie about this, the night before Big Rob's death I dreamed of 2 pregnant women, they say that means death, creepy. And now what is really stressing me is that my butthole hubby is pressuring me into getting a job now that Boogie has started Kindergarten(BTW- he loves it so far!). So now I'm being forced to work after being a SAHM for over 5 years. I don't want to mainly because I know I will be giving up my exercise at the church, and probably most of my exercise at home, plus although I know I will be working fulltime, I will still be expected to cook supper and take care of the house and kids. When I mentioned to hubby that he will have to pull his weight and help out as well, then he got an attitude and we got into a fight. Also, if I start work, then what happens to Boogie's SSI and his insurance, but hubby is being a MAJOR jerk and isn't thinking rationally and just wants me to work and not worry about any of the above mentioned. Jerk. Gee whiz, and now he wonders why I have an attitude. So I've been stressed and I have turned to food. I'm up 4 pounds from last week. I'm swollen and puffy and TOM is due in the next day or so which isn't helping. I hope some of this gain is fluid and comes off soon. Thanks for letting me vent. Today I am trying not to stress eat. Oh yea, another reason I'm mad at hubby, he asked me last night if I wanted anything from the store when he went, and I said no. Well, he brings me home peanut M&M's and a stupid fudge cake! Of course I have no willpower at this point when it's right in front of me, so I ate it. Men can be so stupid, I know it was a semi-peace offering on his behalf, but man, when I say no, I mean it. Alright, I'm thru b**ching for now. Just letting you guys know I'm still alive, hubby's days may be limited though;)

HEART: I am so sorry you are having a rough week. I hope Boogie is ok now. Have you looked into a job at the school? Around here, they are always looking for help in the lunchroom. Its the same hours as the kids are in school, and you get the same vacations they do... I am praying for you and hoping your hubby and you can work things out to both your satisfaction. <<hugs>>

TONI: No, white flour is NOT legal. Only 100% whole wheat flour is ok. If it doesn't say whole wheat, it probably is not...

Heart--Vent all you want; we are here to listen and to encourage you to find the best way to handle the stress when things go haywire. So sorry you are having a rough time. I think that Monet's suggestion is a good one. You could hit two birds with one stone and also be home early, meanwhile bringing home a small paycheck. Don't forget that "women are from Venus", and, as martians, men just don't know how to communicate appropriately with us. I think your DH was saying "I love you" even with that very inappropriate cake and candy. You get a free pass on that one. Make sure you saturate any leftover cake with water, and then dump it, so you are no longer tempted by it.
Jackie--Yay for the loss! That's phenominal. Five pounds! Are you still keeping a count of how much energy value you are eating?
BOB--I miss seeing the Vol hunk getting pinched by the gal with the blue skirt. Let us know how things are going at work. We've been keeping you and your future and that whole situation in our prayers. Is it as bloomin' hot over there as it is here? I suspect that the breezes off the Gulf have got to keep it a tad cooler than here in the middle of the state.
Gotta go. Probably won't post again till tomorrow.
Teensy--Where are you?

The kids and I are at mama's today. It's very hard for me to stay on plan here but so far so good. This morning I made chicken and dumplings out of the left over chicken we cooked in the dutch oven yesterday.
Toni...King Aurthur has a 100 percent stone ground white wheat. It's just like like red wheat only lighter. Awesome on your cholesterol numbers!
Jackie...I'm so glad your foot is getting better. Cool beans on being down 5 pounds.
Monet...count the loss. It doesn't matter what day it's one it's still a loss. I hope it stays and you add to it by Monday. :)
Heart...((((Hugzzz)))) I'm so sorry for the loss of your friend and the pressures being put on you by your husband. I hope you find a way to stay at home unless you want to work. There are so many cool things you can do with your free time. Praying Boogie continues to feel better.
Cindy...I am so sorry for your loss. Praying for your mama as she adjust to missing your daddy.
Poncho...it's probably just water or hormones. It will be back off in no time.
Susan...good to see you. Hope they don't run you too ragged.
Gator..thanks for sharing the article.
Guess I'd better go visit instead of sitting here propped up at the computer. :)

Monet, I thought whole wheat white flour was legal? Maybe Tom can help you decide to keep your monthly dinner.
Heart, I was going to suggest a part time job, that way you would still have time for the kids, house, etc. Monet's suggestion for a job at school is a great idea too. Or find soemthing you can do from home. Sorry things are rough right now. Hope youget them worked out soon and can stop stress eating.
Gator, I don't know what engery value is. Help me out here.
Country, enjoy your visit and stay legal.
Heading home soon. Having ww pizzas tonight (homemade) My dough didn't turn out as well as the last time so I hope it works ok. DH wants to go to the new Tumbleweed restaurant for a drink tonight. It is on the river and all the motorcycles meet there. We don't have or want a bike, he just likes to look at them and see who he knows. (always someone).
Lunch ended up being a scoop of chicken salad and 1/2 c of tomato soup and a peach.
BF was 2 eggs scrambled with cheese and sausage.
Snack: 2 SB oatmeal cookies.
My food today was rather filling, I haven't been hungry at all.
Have a great night.

Good Morning! I tried to get on last night, but the system was down here... Glad to see it back up and running today. :)
Let me clarify...WHITE whole wheat flour is legal, but white wheat flour that does not specify it is WHOLE wheat is not. If the ingredients label says 'wheat flour', or 'enriched flour' they are just other names for white flour. Personally, I prefer the Wheat Montana Prairie Gold which is a white whole wheat flour I grind at Harry's Whole Foods. Toni asked about 'white wheat flour'. Is it whole wheat? or just flour?
Dinner last night was stew beef, broccoli in cheese sauce, salad, and I even ate a bit of mashed potatoes and a small piece of chocolate birthday cake for dessert. I hopped on the metal monster this morning, and it is up about 1.5 pounds...but I usually weigh later, so I am not too concerned about it. We ended up eating later than I like, as the couple that was coming over had to come from so far away and got caught in traffic. When I eat late, it always seems to show up on the scale for a day or two. :(
I have a massage scheduled this afternoon. Then tomorrow, Tom and I are going to his mother's family reunion. The trip takes about 4 hours one way, so I will carry knitting and work on the way. I have a lot of scarves to make! I am not going to do my volunteer stint at the church office today...I am being lazy instead. A young mother from church may come over and swim today, so it will be a full day, but thankfully not too busy.

Laurie: I'm so sorry you've been through the ringer lately. I went to a funeral yesterday in Rochester and sat in the tub last night crying like an idiot. It was for my sister-in-law's sister and I just always really liked her. It was always so nice to see her at my brother's house at family gatherings because she was a single mom like I was, only she was about 20 years older than me and she always made me feel so good about myself whereas the rest of my family could really make me feel like an outcast. She's been suffering from diabetes for well over 10 years...I'll really miss her... Now, regarding your DH wanting you to get a job...I can relate to that, as well. I'm a SAHM and have been for five years since I moved here and love it, but when my DS goes to kindergarden next year, I'm planning on doing what it takes to be a substitute teacher at either my son or daughters' schools. All you need here is an Associates Degree...doesn't matter what it's in...and you have to pass a basic test. But the teachers here say there is such a shortage of substitute teachers these days that you could pretty much make a full time job out of it. And if you have a day where Boogie is home sick or you have an appointment, you have the option to say no if they call and ask you to work. Of course, snow days and school vacations are automatically your days off, as well. Look into it. Working for the school district is definitely the place to go if you're looking for a job that is conducive to a mom's schedule.
Well, as I said above, I had a funeral to go to in Rochester...we drove in and drove out on the same day. Afterwards, we went to my brother's house for a luncheon and about a dozen little ladies brought things like German Potato Salad...lemon bars...baked beans...real mac and cheese...chocolate cake. NOT an on plan day for me AT ALL. I was starving when I got to my brothers house and I looked at my sister and said, "Diet? What diet? Who said I'm on a diet?" :^: Needless to say...I was stuffed to the gills with illegal food and quite lethargic all the way home (my parents drove us). So, today, I had a blueberry smoothie for breakfast and it's back on plan for me.
So...anyhow...have to go. Talk to you guys later
Kris

OH...one other quick tidbit. The funeral I was at was in a gigantic Lutheran church and the pastor talked on a microphone and had this really booming voice and my son wanted to see who was talking and when I pointed him out, he whispered to me, "Mommy...is that Jesus talking?" ;) I just thought that was so cute. I guess I really have to get him to church more often. :)

Jackie--Energy value = calories. I was just trying to avoid using that word. :)
Monet--Perhaps now would be a good time to let someone else take the lead in organizing the preparation of the meal at church and you could just be a helper when you were able to be there. The weight of the responsibility is often the biggest part of the job, so if you could either train someone to take over that position, or let whoever is already capable of doing it take the responsibility, that would free you up to step down to an assistant position. That way, you could keep your foot in the door regarding the cooking, but would not have to shoulder the responsibility all the time. Another benefit for your church is that there would now be more people equipped to handle jobs like that.
Cindy--Hope you are doing well and that angels are mending your heart. I am so impressed at how you've stuck pretty much to plan during a difficult time. You rock!! :balloons:
Country--Again, it is so good to have you back on the board. I know being at Mom's is harder than being at home. I had that trouble when we were visiting my relatives a couple of weeks ago. I know you'll do great. The chicken sounds good. Mmmm.
Toni--The lower the numbers get each MMM you'll find even more benefits for your cholesterol numbers. A lot of it is also hereditary, but good eating and good weight also helps a lot. Congratulations on your good doctor visit. It sounds like an ordeal just to get there. My uncle lives out in the country in Ark. and I can just visualize his having to drive several hours to get to a doctor. We know you are in this for the long haul, and so maybe next year at this time we will be celebrating your new extra-low numbers!!!
I was looking over some old notes and articles that I had clipped out about successful weight loss, especially about keeping it off. For all the people successful at keeping their weight loss without gaining, they had to continue with regular exercise and continue to eat healthily, monitoring what they were eating, and limiting snacks and "junk" to very occasionally. One person interviewed in a specific article talked about having his once a week treat of frozen yogurt, and limiting that to the single scoop, rather than the triple dip topped with chocolate and nuts! As I think about this, I am reminded that I have to totally adjust my thinking about "being on a diet." Because when one is "on" a diet, that implies that when the goal is reached, then one is then "off" the diet, back to eating "normally." However, to maintain, I am thinking that "normal" for me, for the rest of my life, has got to be a SB type of eating (not diet!), with low fat proteins, healthy oils, plenty of veggies and fruits, whole grains, and the occasional treat. Things like Little Debbie snacks, grab-bag sized chips or doritos, regular snacks of candy bars, muffins & cookies, desserts several times a week, ice cream regularly and for a snack, etc. etc. cannot come back into my eating plan if I am going to be successful at keeping myself healthy weight-wise for the rest of my life. Now I am going to have to learn how to really enjoy a good sane meal and look for other ways to "enjoy" life. For example, can I enjoy a walk downtown without having to stop for ice cream? Can I watch TV without snacking? Can I enjoy a meal at a restaurant w/o always having to have dessert? Can I handle boredom w/o having to eat? Can I find substitutes for eating when I really am not hungry? Can I keep those treats in their proper place: a pleasant occasional celebration rather than something that wants to control me? Just some thoughts as we go into the weekend. Here's hoping everyone has a successful Friday and weekend.
Gator: I'm sooo with you on your last paragraph about maintenance. I mean, if we keep to our way of eating all the time, then when those special occaisions come up, like picnics or parties or trips to the beach for ice cream once in a while, it's more like we're treating ourselves.
You know...I can't remember if this was in the South Beach, Atkins or Sugar Busters books (I've read them all), but they mentioned the fact that for centuries humans have survived on food that didn't involve table sugar, enriched flour and fast food-type things. Up until less than 100 years ago, table sugar was only for people that were like royalty and then it was used sparingly. Everything was whole grain/whole wheat. Enriching and processing things didn't happen until somewhere in the middle of the last century. As far as I know...people didn't suffer from things like diabetes or obesity back then like they do now. They also HAD to excercise more...they walked everywhere and manually labored over their household chores and definitely didn't laze around the TV for hours on end. Don't even get me started on THAT!! Anyways...think of all the problems we get into due to the diet of the late 20th and 21's centuries...we all just need to stick to the basics. Of course, who am I to talk after practically taking the whole bowl of German Potato Salad to my spot at the table yesterday with a spoon and saying...Okay...this is MY dinner!! :s:

I was reading Gator's post about successful dieting, and it was interesting to me. Usually, I salivate just at the mention of potato chips...and doritos...and hot fudge sauce. Something is different. Only having those things as a very rare treat doesn't bother me. And, eating the potatoes last night and for breakfast this morning just was not what I expected. It was like, ho hum... They say Leptin resistance is what causes the cravings, and drives you to snack. I think this eating three times a day is really important to regulating your metabolism. I am finding I am not hungry until its time to eat now. I was reading further in the book, and he says if you are hungry after breakfast, you did not eat a good breakfast. The reason to eat protein is two fold. First, it does stick with you longer, but second, it activates the liver and gets it going, which in turn, turns up the metabolism. According to the author, it can burn 30% more calories, and stay at that elevated pace all day. So, protein for breakfast...I am SO there! :)

TECH: I got a phone call in the middle of my post and did not see yours... You know, Protein Power talks about the studies done on Egyptian mummies. They were riddled with coronary disease, and obesity...but their diet was high in carbs and fats, but low in protein. It was a very interesting read. According to the Eades, the authors, everything the ancient Egyptians ate is available in health food stores today... we better understand now the metabolic processes...unfortunately, most Americans are not really eating any healthier because of that knowledge...

Question on protien...what is considered a healthy dose of protien? In grams, that is... I had a smoothie for breakfast today with plain yogurt and in the yogurt the serving has 14g of protien, which I thought was a pretty darn good helping of protien...am I right? I definitely had a serving size in my smoothie.

Wow...I wonder what the Egyptians were eating that was so bad for them? It's not like they were snacking on twinkies in between trips to the drive-thrus on the Nile
Ellen

TECH: How much protein you need depends a lot on your daily needs. I use whey protein, and use 1.5 scoops for breakfast. That equals about 25 grams of protein. Three eggs would be 21 grams. Fourteen grams isn't bad...but if you put in a bit of whey protein it might hold you better, and rev the metabolism better. (notice I said might, as I am not an expert..its just my humble opinion...) The Egyptians were eating grains, and drinking beer. ;)

Tech--Did you Google it? Re. the ADD, that is.
Monet--Very interesting reading about the protein and thanks for sharing that, because it caused me to think about my protein intake. I just love my grains, and normally for BF I have shredded wheat 'N Bran with fruit and skimmed milk, or maybe oats with fruit and milk. Occasionally an egg or 2 on WW toast with some fruit. I'm very satisfied when I finish, and don't get hungry b/f lunch. For lunch I normally will have some cheese on a sandwich, or some meat, about 3 oz. with a salad. And for dinner some more meat, usually 4 oz, but sometimes 3 oz. with veggies. I DO get hungry about 4 hours after lunch, and I have been having a small snack, either leftover veggies, some p-nut butter, or a small piece of fruit. Monet, how do I easily and low-calorically get more protein in at BF? Since I have not been really hungry between meals I just haven't thought about it.
I agree with you about the change that comes from not snacking. Maybe part of not snacking and not feeling hungry about it is just an attitude change with that "lifestyle" change. I actually had part of a half-gallon pkg. of NSA vanilla ice cream in the freezer for almost a week without going to the freezer and just scarfing it up. I had served the ice cream last weekend when my DS and his "family" came over, and my DH and I finished it up slowly with small servings--about 1/2 cup size--at a couple of meals during the week. And I actually did not feel deprived because I didn't have a 2 cup portion sitting in front of me. That's a real victory and I'd like to be able to continue to do that. Part of the preparation for a year from now when I reach goal, (I hope).

TGIF!
I'm ready for the weekend for sure.
It must be the week for funerals. My best friend from high school MIL passed away Wed so we are off to the funeral home straight from work. Then home to change and out to listen to an old band play at the Orphans Picnic. The picnic isn't untl tomorrow but they have these bands the night before and open the gambling booths and food booths. Tomorrow I have to get my nails done, then go to a friends' pool for the day. It is supposed to be around 97 so that will be refreshing. No big plans for the evening and then Sunday we have to go to Lexington for my great nephew's birthday. At some point, I have to clean my house and get some laundry done.
BF: protein bar, coffee, tea
Snack: handfull of peanuts
lunch 2 pc of ww pizza and a small salad with strawberries in it.
Dinner? probably a piece of fish.
Monet, hope you enjoy your massage and reunion. Mashed potatoes for breakfast too?
Tech, the important thing is you got back on plan today. Sorry about your friend.
Gator, Duh! I am stupid. I am trying to stay around 1200-1500 a day. Perferably the lower end. I haven't purchased a scale yet so my measurements are not truly accurate. But it really makes you stop and think about eating something. I totally agree with your thoughts on dieting. You have to retrain yourself or the weight goes right back on plus some. The smart person changes those situations you described and is not so absorbed in food.
I'm gonna go find something to do to kill 2 hours. Have a great weekend, talk to you all Monday.

Howdy all.... Did my grocery shopping and got it all put away. I'm all stocked in for next week. We ate at Ryans for lunch and I did good except I did have 3 wedges of fresh pineapple. Its the first fruit I've had in almost 2 weeks. So guess I'm officially off South Beach Phase 1. And of course I know its illegal to have pineapple. But it was a small treat... Its blistering hot here in Missouri. It was over 95 here today. I'm sorry I didn't say whole grain wheat white flour or the right one. I got this at Hodgeson Mills on line. So I think I'm legal. Got a recipe for flaxseed muffins I'm going to try out. They sound so good. Well hope we all sail through the week end with flying colors......

I almost made it yesterday...LOL I got the wild idea to make Papa Honey some cookies. I did snag a few of the chocolate and butterscotch chips. But I only ate about half a cookie when they came out of the oven. :) Today is munchie day. It is taking some major will power to stay out of the kitchen. I might make another bowl of cauliflower, tomato and onion. That way if I have to munch I won't go for the no no's.
Gator...I agree with a lot of points in the article. Sometimes my mom says something about me "dieting" all the time. But it is truly a lifestyle. I won't pretend there aren't times I take it to the extremem to get the extra pounds off but for the most part it's just how it is now. In a South Beach article I got this morning it said instread of calling an occasional treat a cheat that it's best to call it a treat because calling it a cheat makes us feel bad and makes it's harder to get back on track.
Monet...I'm so happy that these new adjustments in your eating are working for you. There are still certain foods that will make my mouth water. :) My son and I picked the cutest little japanese eggplant this morning. They are a little stunted but are actually big enough to eat finally. One of my neighbors is really into plants and gardening. Well, she found out I would like a fall garden so hopefully if she doesn't forget she is going to mail me a time table to what I can plant. I can hardley wait. She is spending the summer in Colorado I hope she doesn't forget.
Jack-K...You mean we have to do laundry?....LOL I still have helpers at home. Stormy is fixing to hang the wash as I type. My older daughter almost died when she came for a visit a couple of months ago and saw I was using a clothesline. She said OH MAMA...LOL By the time she left she decided she might like one also. I can't see her using the dryer much less hanging anything. :) Just teasin' she'll use the dryer. How is your foot?
Tech...I just love reading your posts. I can just see everyone hunting you down for their share of the potato salad. You have a wonderful sense of humor in your writing.
I'm so sorry for your recent loss. Special people like that are never forgotten. Their kindness is always etched in our hearts.
Toni...you'll have to let us know how the muffins come out. I admit I'm still not big on WW baked goods. This summer I finally broke down and had my tomato and onion sandwhich on wheat bread. It wasn't too bad. :) You shouldn't be upset about a few pieces of pineapple. You did great! There are SO many bad choices at buffets.
Guess I'd better go help Stormy.

Hi everyone, Hope y'all have a great weekend. I'm waiting for the dryer repair man to come and take a look at my brand new dryer !!!! to figure out what is wrong with it to make a horrible grinding noise when it dries. I want him to take it away and bring me a new one. Waiting for him is messing up my nice Saturday morning, and I have this fear that he will not show.
I heard from BOB, and she is doing OK, but under great stress because of the layoffs at the hospital where she works. More layoffs are scheduled in the next few weeks and she is really down. She told me that she has been reading the board but not posting because her heart is just not in it right now because of the stress she is dealing with.
She thinks that she has beaten the bug but she still has the cough. She says that the cough is still really deep and that her Doc says it could be 6 weeks
or 6 months before she's rid of it! Because she coughed so hard it hurts like heck when she coughs now, so she's having a rough time with that too. I gave her the suggestions for vitamins that we discussed on the board, and she may look into taking some. Any moral support we can give Narda will be a big help, I think.
We are having company over tonight for a nice dinner. We are having "turf and surf" about 3 oz. filet mignons and a small lobster tail. Simple and easy to fix. Green beans and french fried sweet potato straws, and NSA ice cream with cherries on the top. Not too bad for SB! But probably a little more calories than I would normally have for dinner. Gotta pay attention for MMM!!
Well, I'm gonna go look up the phone number for the repair man and call and see if he is really coming.
Good Saturday morning all. Have nothing planned today so think I'll just play the day by ear. Its good and hot here already. B- Kashi granola bar.. Don't know about the rest of the day but do know that was a crappy breakfast.
Gatorgal- My cholesterol problems are heritary. I have Cornary arteries disease. A triple by pass, five stents and a caritod fix. So getting it down this low is a mircle. I can remember when its been as high as 458, so this is great. But I am on two different medicines for it. I just hope it stays in this good 140 range.
CountryMom- Hope to make those muffins in a day or two. Will let you know and also write the recipe afterwards. What do you do with the tomato, cauliflower and onion? It sounds like something I'd like.

Toni--My sister is a pharmacist and she recommended Co-Q 10 to me when I began on Lipitor. She was pretty insistant on it and told me that the statin drug depletes something that we need for good heart health and that the Co Q 10 restores it. My holistic doctor told me the same thing, so I am now taking 30 mg. of Co Q 10 gel caps 2X per day. My MD didn't know anything about it. I think sometimes that regular MDs are not quite up to snuff about the domino effect some medications have on our bodies.

Thank you Gatorgal. I took Lipitor for years. Just the last year have I taken Crestor and Zita. I've written the Co Q 10 down and will pick up some next time I go to town. I agree with you about the MD's.

Hey everyone! This will be kind of quick, as its late and I am SO tired! We left this morning about 7:30 and just got back in. The reunion was fun, and I did really well! I had green bean casserole, plain pole beans, celery with pimento cheese, two thick slices of smoked turkey, a chicken thigh with all skin and breading pulled off, a taste of chicken pie, butter beans, and some peas. I did have one bite of Tom's piece of gooey cake, and a small bit of a cookie. (it was way too sweet! shudder) I drank a diet coke with splenda and a diet 7up with splenda, and had some ham and peas as dinner before we left my mother in laws and headed back home. Breakfast was a blueberry smoothie, and espresso with half and half. All in all, it was a good day considering all the desserts I passed on! Half the table was layer cakes, brownies, cookies and a fabulous trifle with angel food cake, strawberries, and loads of whipped cream.
I knitted all the way there, and most of the time there. I have never felt particularly accepted by the whole group of my in laws, so I just loved having something to do so I did not have to try and participate in conversations about people I don't know, and know nothing about. I finished one scarf for Christmas, and started a second. I have six to knit for my nieces and nephews, then afghans for my sisters, and mother in law. I will probably not knit anything for my sisters in law...I just don't think they would appreciate all the work that goes into it.
Its time to crawl into bed, so I wish you all sweet dreams!

Wow Monet you did so good yesterday.... To pass up all those yummy desserts!!!!!! Good luck on your weigh in Monday!!! I just made some flax seed muffins for this week. Think they would be good with a smoothie for breakfast. Since I've got some frozen blueberries. I tried a crockpot chili last night for dinner. I was pretty pleased with it and now have leftovers for my lunch this week. Thats if my DH doesn't get into it. I also made some ham and cream cheese roll ups we had yesterday for a snack. I really need to make them more. They're so good while watching t.v. Hope I do well on my weigh in tomorrow.

Wow, the board really gets quiet on the weekends.
Our dinner with our friends here at our home last night went very well. We spent a lot of the evening looking at each other's pictures from trips to France and Italy. I had about 2 oz. of filet mignon, 3.5 oz. lobster tail, some melted butter, green beans, matchstick thin sweet potatoes deep fried (!!) and a scoop of NSA vanilla ice cream with a topping of canned bing cherries cooked in red wine. Also had a couple of glasses of wine. I thought I was being pretty careful, but it was more than I normally have for dinner, and the scale was back up to 167 this morning. I am being VERRRRRY careful today and hope it will show 166 that it did on Thursday.
So far today I had a quick breakfast of cereal with about 1/2 peach and 1/2 cup skimmed milk.
For lunch our Sunday school class went out to lunch together to Steak and Ale, and I had the grilled shrimp, which I put on top of the salad bar salad that I fixed for myself. They did not have any low cal dressings that I could find, so I had a drizzle of ranch. Hopefully my body thinks that is light enough!
We're just vedging out today, so no news from here. See y'all tomorrow.

I have been rather busy all day, relaxing out by the pool with Tom and then running some errands. We are leaving in the morning to camp for a few days. I am going to go ahead and start the boards tonight, in case I can't get back on in the morning.
Breakfast this morning was two eggs, three bacon, and a piece of ww toast, espresso with 1/2 and 1/2. Lunch was two wedges of Laughing Cow, two slices of deli chicken, and a handful of macadamia nuts. Dinner was a hand ful of olives, macadamia nuts, and three or four ribs of celery, three baby carrots, and a few cauliflower florettes. I have not kept to the proper timing of meals today, due to waking up late and running around all day, but I hope MMM will still be ok! Right now, I am furthur indulging in a diet 7Up.
I have mucho to do before I can crawl in bed, so I better get doing it!
