oh good grief. first of all, on the flight to/from vegas, make sure you get up at regular intervals and take a spin around the aisles. THEN, to be extra sure, you can wear compression stockings.
as for getting them in your sleep - i suppose it happens, but there's only so much you can control! make sure you're not sleeping sitting up [like in a chair], and make sure that you're hydrated [so that the liquid component of your blood is 'runny' rather than 'sludgy'] and you should be fine.
i've HAD blood clots. and this is what works for me. if you want to take some extra precautions, you COULD take a baby aspirin, BUT i DO NOT DO THIS WITHOUT TALKING TO YOUR DOCTOR!!!!
most docs want you off of ALL forms of aspirin, ibuprofen, advil, celebrex, mobic, naprosyn, etc etc etc for at least 2 weeks before surgery. the reason: they don't want your blood to be slow to clot during the surgery.
