Even my husband is excited-we've been looking at before and after pictures of women that are about my same hieght, age, weight. I leave for Vegas(my home town)on August 12th then come back on the 24th-I'll already be doing my pre-op by then-YEAH! Any last helpfull hints? I've read alot of stuff so far-just trying to pull more out of y'all! Thanks!

Congrats on the date!! Get ready to change your life for the better!

OK - sounds a little silly - but since you'll be in Vegas, enjoy food! Yes, you'll enjoy food after surgery too, but I did go through a resentful period when I couldn't binge a little. I'm the only one that doesn't get the $14 worth from a buffett ;-).

Seriously - enjoy yourself, relax, and good luck!

Default Getting excited!

I wish it would hurry up and get here!! I'm ordering my protein and vitamins tonight. When I get back from Vegas I'll only have 2 days left! Yeah! What's really got me worried is blood clots. The doctors make it seem like if you're not moving there's a chance you're getting them. I am scared to even sleep. Should I get up in the middle of the night and walk? Can you really get them just by going to sleep at night? THanks everyone!

oh good grief. first of all, on the flight to/from vegas, make sure you get up at regular intervals and take a spin around the aisles. THEN, to be extra sure, you can wear compression stockings.

as for getting them in your sleep - i suppose it happens, but there's only so much you can control! make sure you're not sleeping sitting up [like in a chair], and make sure that you're hydrated [so that the liquid component of your blood is 'runny' rather than 'sludgy'] and you should be fine.

i've HAD blood clots. and this is what works for me. if you want to take some extra precautions, you COULD take a baby aspirin, BUT i DO NOT DO THIS WITHOUT TALKING TO YOUR DOCTOR!!!!

most docs want you off of ALL forms of aspirin, ibuprofen, advil, celebrex, mobic, naprosyn, etc etc etc for at least 2 weeks before surgery. the reason: they don't want your blood to be slow to clot during the surgery.

Congratulations on your surgery date!

My best advice is to keep the initial motivation going as long as you can. When temptation calls, avoid it as long as possible. The first year after surgery is the best chance to lose...not the only chance, but the best chance. Take full advantage of it!
