Good morning!

After doing my morning routine, I got on the scale to notice a nice decrease from last week. I am down 5 lbs.!

If anyone would like to join me, the following are my goals for the day and week:
Daily: drink at least 8 glasses of water
Weekly: exercise at least 3X this week

BTW, a little about myself:
My name is Jeanne. I am almost 34 years old (Thursday is the birthday). I am married and have 2 children -- a 3 year old girl and a 3 month old boy. I usually WOH, but I am taking a child care leave for the next 13 months. I have been carrying this extra weight around for some time. I have lost and regained about 20 lbs of it more times than I care to admit. I am hoping this time that once I lose the pounds, they will be gone forever.

Good luck and have a great day!

Hi Jeanne! My name is Lori. I am 32years olds. I have a wonderful Dh Jim & we will be celebrating our 9th wedding anniversary on August 10th of this year. We also have 3 daughters Emiyl who is 6 1/2, Madelyn who is 2 1/2 & Abigail who is almost 10month old. I am currently a stay at home mom, however I am also attending college. As far as weight loss goes I am trying to follow the Weight Watcher plan since I have seen success on that before.
My goals are:
*drink 96oz of water a day
* exercise ( any type) at least 30 min a day
Weigh in today was 258.0 so I will alter my tracker if I can & go from there!!

Take care,
Lori :)

Good Morning everyone!
so here goes on my goals: I know if I post them- I'll 99.9% stick to it!
my daily goals for this week is to drink at least 20 oz. of water every day. I know it's not much BUT That's saying alot for me as if it's not diet coke I don't want it. I will attempt to drink more H2O but will set small goals for now as not to overdo it and set myself up for failure.
my weekly goals are to exercise at least 3 times this week :)
Good luck to all the Summer Starters!!
We can do this!!! :cheer:

My name is Sandy, I'm 42 with 3 kids, a 20 (almost 21) daughter, a 12 year old step son who knows everything ;) and a 7 year old daughter. I am an Administrative Assistant and work about 30-35 hours a week. I Have a wonderful but "clueless about my losing weight issues" hubby (he lost 30 pounds on slimfast, was never hungry, etc.. and I gained 12) I used to be a size 5-6 until the birth of my last child. A lot of complications with her and have recently been diagonsed with type 2 diabetes . I am about 55-60 pounds overweight and have had a really bad time with sugar out of control and angina attacks/heart problems, Out of breath. So I am taking this seriously. I am now just going to make proper choices for foods, and control portions and exercise!! :ebike: I have tried all kinds of diets in the past and set myself up for failure by going all out the first week and realizing I can't keep up with all the big plans I make and I felt like a failure when I gave up. This time I am going slow and steady. This support will be wonderful Thank you all !

Woohoo, I see everyone's doing well with goal-setting so far! As for me, my goals are to drink at least 12 servings of water a day and to technically workout at least 3 times a week (I say "technically" because I mean go to the gym--I work part-time as a waitress, so I get exercise that way, but I don't "technically" count it).

I just turned 23 last week. I don't have any kids, but my boyfriend acts like one much of the time  I have been with him for over a year and 4 months now, and we are moving in together in October (yay!!). As it is now, I only see him on weekends because we live about 1.5 hours apart, so we will be moving to a city in between where we both live now so we can both keep our jobs :) I work full-time as a technical editor/proofreader on two government contracts (EPA and CMS), and, like I said, I also work part-time as a waitress (at Ruby Tuesday, if you know of it).

I also belong to TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly), so I get some in-person support that way. We meet every Thursday evening (at least I know I get that one night a week off from Ruby's!). I have been posting on these boards for a few months pretty actively, but I love meeting new people, and who couldn't use a little more support? ;)

Hi everyone - I usually don't get the computer until after lunch, so sorry if I am posting so late.

I was doing good last week. My plan is to cut my sugar intake and try to excercise at least 3 times a week for starters.

I am 32, married to a wonderful, supportive husband. I have packed on this extra weight over the last few years of fertility treatments. We are now ready to adopt and would love to get this extra weight off. I am a emotional eater and love support. Hope this will work for me!

Hi my name is Katie and I am 21, my fiance is in Iraq and I would like to at least get back down to the weight i was before he left. We are getting married in a year, and so my ultimate goal is 145. I am 222 right now. I am really new to this, I have tried to lose weight before, but the only reason i succeeded was because i was working 2 jobs. I need help learning to control my cravings, eat better, and getting of my lazy butt. Any advice or tips would be most welcome as well as support:)

My goal this week is to drink at least 4 glasses of H2O, cut out the junk that I eat, and excercise 4 times a week. I am very low on cash, so I don't have a gym membership, any ideas on things to do around the house for excercise? I did buy Yogo Booty Ballet, has anyone tried that?

I am finally ready to do this, so thank you for starting this, all my friends are skinny girls, so it is hard to turn to any of them for this kind of support. Once again thank you. and i look forward to getting to know all of you!

Much Love,

I have been a member of this site for a while, but have been a little off the whole weight-loss thing for the last 5 or 6 weeks due to some minor medical issues. I lost almost 40 lbs using WW a few years ago, but slowly gained some of it back the last two years away from home at college. I was 168 in January, and I have (in a few good spurts) lost 14-15 lbs since then. I really want to take control back (I've gained a couple lbs) and continue slowly working my way towards the weight I would like to be and have never been. (My lowest since I was a freshman in hs is 151, I'm 5'3, and wear size 10-12)
I'm turning 23 this Friday, I graduated with my B.S. in Marriage, Family, and Human Development in December, married my sweetheart in May, and I'm working full time as an Institutional Research Assistant. I would love to join you and get some motivation and accountability!

My goals for this week:
Continue to stay off sugar
watch my portions
drink 8 cups of water daily
go to the gym at least 4 times

I will weigh in on Thursdays.

you create a slider, then copy and paste the html code it gives you into your signature. After that you can find your numbers in that text and modify them as you need.

Wow. All of you have really thought through your goals for the week. Well, hmm, I think my main goal this week is to walk for 30 minutes everyday. I've recently started exercising yesterday and was dissapointed to be in pain after five blocks! Anyway, I'd also like to set the goal of eating more veggies.

So glad this group was started. I'm 27, single, and a graduate student. I just stepped on the scale two weeks ago after not weighing myself for five months. In those months I gained over 60 pounds. So, here I am now at 275 (down from 283) hoping to lose the weight once and for all.

I look forward to chatting more with you all.

Ok! I'm ready. Just to give you the reader's digest version on my story. I am married w/ 2 daughters 12 & 10. Ok three kids if you count my husband. I have always had a slight weight problem since I was a kid, but nothing like this. Everything went south after my first baby. Before I got prego, I went to Jenny Craig & lost 40 pounds. I was down to a size 9. Then after the 4th month, preeclamptic things started and my blood pressure & weight went crazy. I gained a total of 70 pounds and spent the last four months of the pregnancy on bed rest. When it was time to loose the baby weight, it wouldn't come off. I talked to my doctors who said that I just needed to push away from the table. When I said I was tired all of the time and had no energy, they said welcome to motherhood. I have spent the last 12 years trying to get some doctor to help me find out what was wrong--I kept telling them that there was some kind of hormone problem. Since they were all men, they patted me on the back and said that maybe I was just getting older.

Well, I finally found a doctor to listen to me and do a blood test. So after 12 years of beating my head against the wall, I have my answer. Syndrome X--insulin resistance. Ok! Now for the other news. Kaiser's way of treating it--diet & exercise. When I told my primary care to check behind door number two because door number one wasn't working, he told me that is the only treatment authorized.
I have been all over the internet and there are other things that will help.

So, I guess now that I know what is wrong, I can take action and here I am.

My starting weight is 280. I would like to loose 100. I have already started walking in the neighborhood and want to try to do that as much as I can to start. I also started the atkins thing.

My husband is so negative when it comes to me trying to diet. He thinks by telling me I can't do it, I will get pissed and show him wrong. He's right I do get pissed, but then after the diet failed because of the insulin resistance thing, i said he's right and gave up. Well, now I am armed and dangerous and think I can make things happen this time. My two girls are with me and have said they will help drag me out of the house to exercise. So here's to getting rid of my first 10 pounds!

07-25-2005, 08:19 PM
I really want to end this awful eating cycle that I've been in for the last 9 weeks. I thought that if I just ate whatever and whenever I felt like it, instead of planning and watching, maybe I could be like a normal person, but needless to say, it was a bad idea.
I am about 70 pounds overweight. I am scared to step on a scale. I haven't in years, but I can tell from the mirror and my rubber waisted clothes.

I know that low carb works best for me.
So my goals are;
Low carb, but not high calorie breakfast and lunch and supper.
Fruit for a snack.

This is not Atkins, but I do find that protein keeps away real hunger, but not emotional hunger.

Will we always be able to find each other by clicking on summer starter? This is the first time ever I am joining a group on line.

07-25-2005, 08:40 PM
Hi Laura---glad to have you in the group. This is my first time with a support group. I really don't know what to expect. So I will look for you on summer starters and try to check in daily.

I think I'll go for a walk after it cools down a bit. Talk to you later.

07-25-2005, 08:42 PM
Hi all -
May I join you also? I started a "diet" a couple weeks ago and have lost 3lbs. so far. Just watching what I am eating and portions right now. I usually walk during the week for 30 min. a day at lunch, but about two months ago developed heel pain and have been diagnosed with plantar faciaits (sp?) I FINALLY get my orthodics on Thursday! So, I can get back to walking!! I can't wait - I have not been able to walk for 6 weeks and have noticed I am rather grumpy these days!

I am 36, happily married, no children (does hubby count tho'?).
I need to lose about 30lbs. I have done WW at work in the past and lost 16lbs, but gained it all back and we don't have enough ppl. to get the group going again and I don't want to go to meetings with ppl. I don't know.

My goal this week - PORTION CONTROL!
I am also new to the site and joining a group and hope I can find you all again!!
Good Luck everyone!

Hi everybody! I've been working like a fiend all day and really need to get my dress finished for my sister's wedding on Saturday, but I wanted to take a minute and introduce myself to you too!

I'm Mindi, married to Steve for 17 years. I have two kids Meghan (24) and Matt (22). Both of them are still at home - augh! We also have three dachshunds, Heidi, Ruger, and Buttercup. I used to call them weenies, but I don't want to do that any more, makes them sound like food! lol!

I lost about 60 pounds on WW about 10 years ago, but have gained it all and then some. :-( I joined Jenny Craig last fall and was having wonderful luck with it when I got pretty sick from some medication I was taking and had to quit because I wasn't working. I had lost 17.5 pounds in 6 weeks, so I know it'll work for me. I went back on Saturday and started in again! I just love the forums like this one and the one at JC because it's nice to know I'm not alone in my struggle. Even though my food is portioned out and menus are made for me, I know there will come a day that I'll be on my own and trying to maintain again and I want to be ready! Hearing how others battle their personal demons gives me some insight on how to handle mine.

I'm glad I found you all and I hope we can continue to be a support for each other! Good luck this week everyone!

07-25-2005, 09:27 PM
Good evening everyone! It looks like Summer Starters is off to a great start! :cp:

I managed to keep my calories below 1200 today and I even walked for 30 minutes, so I'm feeling pretty good tonight.

I noticed that a lot of you have goals of drinking water. I know 8 glasses a day is the general rule and I usually get 2 or 3 glasses of water, but the rest is usually in the form of weak iced tea. Can anyone tell me if iced tea counts as water or does it have to be plain water?

07-25-2005, 10:16 PM
Ok three kids if you count my husband.

My husband is so negative when it comes to me trying to diet. He thinks by telling me I can't do it, I will get pissed and show him wrong. He's right I do get pissed,

Sounds like my husband has another wife! I am sorry he's not supportive. Mine isn't all that supportive either. To top it off, he is one of those sickening people who can eats whatever he wants and never gain a pound. I thought that might change after he hit 35, but 2.5 years later, it still hasn't. He always tells me that losing weight is as simple as eating less and exercising more. Thanks, Sherlock, I hadn't figured that out yet! (If you can't tell, I am peeved at him tonight.)

I am new here and since it is still day one for Summer Starters, I hope it isn't too late to jump in. I am a SAHM in North Carolina with a three year old, Alicia, and a one year old, Tyler. I have been struggling with losing the weight put on during my pregnancies but am also a really bad emotional eater. I am starting the South Beach Diet again because it is one that I like and have found easy to stick with in the past. If I can get through the emotional days without breaking that, I will finally get on the right track again. I find once I get off, it's just so hard to get going again.

My weight this morning was 258 :o My highest ever and it send me straight to the fridge, but then I slammed it shut and told myself NO! Because that makes no sense to eat because I am fat :dizzy:

I have a gazelle and do it daily, and just LOVE it because I can get a good workout and get my heartrate up in short bursts throughout the day, working around the kids. Then I get on for a serious longer workout once the babes re in bed. I also have the Walk Away the Pounds videos and love them, but they get boring so I do them more in the winter months. I was walking at the "fat track" at the local high school, but it's way too hot for the kids to be out there now, so I plan to start that up again when it cools some.

Right now I am working through the WebWalking USA program to "walk" across the country. My goal for this week is milestone 3, which is just over 40 miles. I keep a log for this and find it very inspiring...though it will take like 2 years to finish, literally! But, it's my long term goal.

Okay, so I am here and ready to get MOVING!!!!!!!!!!

07-25-2005, 10:55 PM
Iím Ruby.
Iíve lived in Oklahoma since 1970, was born in Ca. Iím 42;Single and staying that way!

I currently weigh 213lbs @ 5í2Ē. I need to lose 100 lbs.
My goals for this week are, 30 minutes working out on my Gazelle everyday.
Strength training 20-30 minutes 3 times a week.

07-26-2005, 12:08 AM
Before finding this group I had decided not to do my exercise today. My goal was 6 miles and I didn't get any in during the day due to pure laziness, and decided I was just going to not do it and distribute it throughout the rest of the week to make up. Well, I decided that I can't start day one of this group off being such a lazy I got on the gazelle and did 2 miles. Not my goal, but it is something and I am proud of myself...and thankful I caught this group in time to join!

07-26-2005, 04:39 AM
Good morning,
I'd like to join the group. My name is Pebble, I live in Bodrum Turkey, which is a resort town. I have been steadily gaining weight for the past 10 years, and I cant stand it anymore. I weigh 195 lbs. and would like to eventually get down to something like 160. right now though anything in the 80s would be great.
I have to children, boy 17 who lives in the states with my sister, and a daughter 15 who lives here with us.
my goal is to wtch what I eat, drink water and try to get some exercise, which is very difficult, as there are no gyms here and it is way tooooo hot to walk, which is my exercise of choice.

I am happy to see so many of us banding together to try to take control of our weight.

good luck everyone, and DRINK YOUR WATER........ ;)

07-26-2005, 05:44 AM
hi everyone. i guess i'm late but i'm a real night owl.
well, i am trying to lose 50-65 more pounds. i have lost 23 lbs (kind of) so far. i am ignoring the scale right now because it seems to be off. i am 176 now, and want to go down to about 110-125. 110 is the lowest ideal weight for my height, but i don't want to get too thin, so maybe 125 will be better.
i am married, almost one year now. dh is very supportive about my diet, except for trying to get me to eat candy (he *loves* the stuff!). i live in buena park, ca, but i am moving to anaheim in a few days. trying to find a new job too. so, lots of stress along with the diet.
my goals for my diet are trying to work out 5 times a week, keeping my calories around 1200, and eating healthy foods. i am calorie counting so i can eat anything i want, but i know even with that, it's no good to get half of those from 200 cal/bottle beers ;) i also want to try and sleep more regular hours (not staying up til 6 a.m. playing on the internet.)
good luck to all the summer starters! we can do it :)

07-26-2005, 08:39 AM
Good morning everyone! My goals for today are to get in 8 miles (will me most I've done in one day, so we'll see how much I can get in during the day, that will determine if I make it); drink 64 oz. water; 30 minutes weights; and NO SUGAR!!!

Wow looks like more when it's written out than it does in my head!

We can do it everyone...what are your goals?

07-26-2005, 08:51 AM
Wow, so many new people. Welcome, everyone!!

Well, I had to work both jobs yesterday, and I checked the schedule for this week, and I also have to work both jobs today and tomorrow. I told them 2 nights a week, but noooo. So anyway, that means I can only go to the gym for about 30-40 minutes each day between jobs, which is plenty of cardio considering if I didn't go, I would just lay on the couch and watch tv, which isn't exactly a great workout :p I usually do the full 30-40 minutes on the elliptical machines because it burns way more calories than the bike or the treadmill, so I figure I might as well get the most I can out of my time there.

A good thing about working 3 nights in a row at my part-time job is that I am a waitress, so I will be walking around for at least 5 hours and carrying drinks and trays and plates, so it is exercise in itself too, I suppose (especially since my full-time job involves sitting on my butt at a computer all day :dizzy: ).
Well, I should probably go pretend to do some work now since others will be coming in soon ;) Catch y'all later!!

07-26-2005, 09:44 AM
Jill--30 minutes at the gym is MUCH better than none! And it is definitely a better choice than sitting on the couch. Give yourself credit girl, you are doing awesome! And the waitressing burns calories and so will help you get to your goals. Keep going!

07-26-2005, 10:27 AM
Good Morning Everyone! :dancer:
It is so great that everyone is setting and meeting goals!
I had a habit in my past attempts of dieting of going overboard and setting really high goals and expectations for myself that I could never reach and accomplish, in other words I was setting myself for big time failure: Goals Like I'll drink 12 8oz. glasses of water today or exercise for an hour every day and only eat 3 times a day  (yeah right) so I am setting my goals a bit low and when I can accomplish those I will push a bit higher! This way I feel I am accomplishing something and it's a start in the right direction!
Yesterday I set a goal of drinking 20 oz. of h2o and did 42 oz. :D
today is the same 20 oz.
I did exercise yesterday using one of my toning videos with the bands.. I could only do part of it But at least I tried, and it wasn't so bad so I will keep pushing on in my slowpoke way and will be like my little one says: Mommy the tortoise won the race you know..
I am doing really well on my "Hubby will never let me buy nutisystem so I'm making my own meals plan". I am finding pre- packing my foods(cereal, fruits, veggies) for each day helps me to know what there is to eat and so far so good! that way I can grab something and not have to stand there and dig around and grab something I don't NEED to eat..Good Luck everyone and THANK YOU for all the great tips and advice and support!

07-26-2005, 11:13 AM
Good morning
Today is day 1 for me. I already had a low carb breakfast, egg with mushrooms and cheese. I want to not go into the kitchen 20 times today and hunt for food. (I work part time at home). If I can meet my goal of just eating 3 meals and 2 fruit snacks, I willbe happy.
I need to wait on exercise because right now I have Lyme disease, a big problem here in upstate NY and my arms and legs hurt. So next week I hope to start riding my bike.

07-26-2005, 01:15 PM
I weighed in this morning, certain in my mind that I gained because I've been eating way too much but hopeful that I lost because my pants fit looser and I did over 40 miles of exercise last week. The verdict--down 5 lbs!!!!!!!! I totally am blown away. I know I was working out hard, but still didn't expect FIVE pounds. I think not eating after 8PM has worked as well, though night eating is a struggle for me...since I stay up late writing!

07-26-2005, 01:21 PM

Hey guys--just wanted to point out that this thread has yesterday's date on it, and a new one has been started for today, so some people aren't reading this one. I have already suggested that we not change it every day, so hopefully that will fly, as I think it is MUCH easier to not have to move to a new thread every day. See you in Summer Starters 7/26!! :)

[QUOTE=jjeanne]He always tells me that losing weight is as simple as eating less and exercising more. QUOTE]

07-26-2005, 02:34 PM
Ok, just found out we got moved and so I am sure there are quite a few that I don't have emails for the weekly check in. Please PM me so I can get you added in the group-tomorrow is the first check in day.
