ive been reading on these ww boards and am finding that a bunch of people myself included have joined ww within the last month or so and am wondering if anyone wanted to start a group for support?

I replied to your question in the thread I started, but I figure I'd respond here, just so it's more organized. ;) I think starting a support group sounds like a really great idea! Sometimes the hardest moments are when I'm home by myself. That's when these forums are even more useful, you know? Just getting to read everyone's success stories (and even their struggles) helps me put things into perspective. :)

Hi, I am Phyllis and I just joined 3fatChicks and also doing the South Beach Diet. I need to lose about 45 lbs. I think a support group would be great!! I need all the help I can get. How about a tricky title to our new group!! I would enjoy hearing from all of you, and will keep in touch. Phyllis

Yes, please, count me in! :)

I found 3FC a month or so ago, and enjoy the support found here on the boards. I'm doing WW at home on my own (ok, DH too)-- no money right now to pay for meetings.

Hmmm.... if I think of a creative name I'll come back and post it.

Me too! I posted on the other thread but I will be looking for this one again. I just started again at home (for the umpteenth time) and am really motivated to look better for my son's wedding, Sept. 3. I'll try to figure out the pretty stuff the rest of you have.

This is just a test to see if the slider shows up. It sounds like I have to copy and paste for every post.
What about the little pix on the left? What are those called?

Hello all! I'd love to join!! My first meeting since rejoining after having my son was born almost a year ago Tuesday.

FYI Susie go to user CP at the upper left of this page and go to edit signature, copy and paste the slider info into it and voila it's there everytime on every post. As you need to change it go back to edit signature and update the numbers within the slider text you pasted. But just so you know once you update it the slider will change in ALL of your posts even old ones. The little pic is an avatar and you can choose to edit it in the user CP page as well.

I look forward to getting to know everyone!!

Susie- Go up to the top and click where it says User CP. The little picture to your left is called an avatar, so to change it click on Change Avatar. And, change your signature- put the ticker code in the signature box and save. PM me if you need to. :)

I'd love to join this group too!

This tuesday's WW meeting will be 4 weeks in a ROW for me (IMAGINE THAT)!!!!

I think a group for newbys would be awesome and I love the Summer 05 name or something like that!

It will be interesting to see where we are in Summer 06!

Just quick info on my - My name is Mara, I just relocated from CA to Austin, Tx 5 weeks ago and when I moved decided to do a complete make-over - the old fashioned way - loosing a pound at a time, chaning my eating habits - EXCERCISING (gasp!!). And I have to say so far so good. I was thin until the birth of my 2nd child, then after that (8 years ago - a'hem) I have gained weight and BAM, here I am 'obese' (ewwww hate that word) but it is what it is and I am FINALLY committed to doing something about it.

I"m so committed, that my husband, friends and family now know I mean business! So that's good no more checking on me to see if I have fallen off the wagon. NOt to say I don't have tough days - because BOY do I!

Can't wait to learn about all of you!

Smiles!

I personally love the Summer '05 Chickies name! I think it's really cute! :)

Shall we have a little meet and greet similar to what Mara has done? I'll go along with it (it's a little too much to go through old posts and try to figure out where our first intro posts were, haha).

My name's Amanda. Calpurrnia is my cat's name (hence the "purr" in the middle, ha). I'm 23, currently weigh 209, and am 5'3". My whole life, I was always on the skinnier side. I just have a pretty small frame...until college hit. And then grad school hit. And basically I never developed very good eating habits. After I moved out of my parents' home, I was the one responsible for getting my own food, which meant TONS of temptation (plus potato chips are much cheaper than real food you have to cook). So, day by day I just packed on the pounds. And...well, here I am! ;)

I've been working with a personal trainer, and I started WW on Saturday (July 2nd), which is something I've never done before. I mean, there have been times when I've just done the exercise, but I'd sabotage myself with food. And then there were times when I would just do the good eating habits, but then I'd just sit around all day. So this is the first time I've coupled both, which is pretty exciting, actually. :) I lost 2 pounds in my first week on WW...so, I'm feeling pretty darn good right now. ;)

But of course...there are those relapse moments in the wee hours of the morning when I'm all alone in my apartment...just me and the food (even though it's low fat and fat free, it's still not good to pig out on, haha). So I'm really looking forward to this group. :) This will be great!

Hope everyone's doing well! I'm looking forward to meeting all of you! :D

Best,
~Amanda

Hi,

I've been doing WW for about 3 months now which is the longest that I've ever stuck it out for. The last few weeks have been a bit bad, but I've still managed to lose a bit of weight. I'm on the other side of the world from all of you guys, so can I be the token Winter '05 chick?

Hi! Can I join too?

I've been here at 3fc since the beginning of June, and have been actively counting points since June 6th. I'm doing WW at home, because I cant afford to pay for either online or meetings.

My name is Liz, and I just turned 24. I've lost 11 pounds since the beginning of June, and my goal is to get down to 200 and then re evaluate how I feel about myself, and my weight and decide if I need/want to loose anymore. But my ultimate goal is to be able to shop in regular stores and not have to go to the 'plus size' stores or sections. And I was able to do that at 200 lbs.

Well! You chickies have been busy getting to know each other while I was away camping!! Oh, please say the group isn't too big already- I want in, I want in!! I've already posted a few times already, and I recognize some of you from other threads, so if there's room for one more, I'm on board!

Here's my (brief!) intro- I'm 31 and just about to finish grad school- um, yeah, I took some time off in between the BS and MA to get married and it turned out that didn't suit me, so here I am now in grad school, older than everyone else! Anyway, I have a darling 5 year old son and I want to set a good example for him- healthy eating, exercise and the whole shebang. I'm also fed up with fretting about my outfit everytime I leave the house! I topped out at 212 and have lost 14 lbs since starting 4 weeks ago- and I'm still pumped! I usually fall off the diet (believe me, I've done this WW thing a million times) around week 6, and here I am in week 5, so this support group is a well timed blessing!

OK! I'm off to swim for an hour! I'll check in with you all later...

Hi Liz and Lori! :) *giggles* I don't think the group is too big! It's funny...when I read your requests to join, I suddenly flashed back to those god-awful sorority days. ;) I'm kidding...but of course you can join us! :) Welcome!

Liz: Oh man, I know exactly how you feel. One of my friends just got married, and I was so embarrassed when shopping for a dress because I HAD to go to August Max Woman just because I couldn't fit into any other dresses at the other stores. I think your goal to 200 is a very good one! :) You'll make it!

Lori: I'm starting my second year on my MA! What/where are you studying? I'm studying English Lit. (concentration in Early Modern drama and prose fiction) at Auburn University (Alabama). Congratulations on getting back into school. I'm tossing around the idea of taking some time off between my MA and my Ph.D, but I'm not sure if I'd have the will power to come back. Was it very difficult for you to get back into the swing of things?

Congratulations to you both for the weight loss you've had so far! :)

For my little introduction. . .

I was always around 150 in high school and always trying to get down. I made it to 135 once on an Atkins-type diet, but gained it right back when I started eating sugar again. When I got married (155ish), I tried on and off with no real plan/schedule and lost on and off accordingly. Last year I gained 25 pounds. Can not say specifically why, but hey, it happened. Now I am ready to get it all off. Two months ago, I was married and living in my own home in a small town/village with a decent job and new but great friends. Now, my husband is filing for divorce, I am in a little apartment (and have to find my own soon!), have a rotten part-time night job, am in a huge city, and have no friends. My support system is Zero. My friends got me started on WW and were all, "don't forget to keep in touch!" but unfortunately have not kept up their end. My family is far away and does not know about most of the things, so I am really on my own right now. I really feel like each day there is someone kind of out to get me. If it is not my husband criticizing me for something, it is my sister spazzing out of nowhere, or my boss in a bad hormonal mood, et cetera. That is why I could really use this group for some accountability. I figure if I can get through it through hard times, then if I get back to easier times, it will be ever simpler. ;) Also is a big motivation. . .can not wait to prove to the negativiters that I can do it. I am currently doing the regular WW plan. I walk about half an hour to work and half an hour back. (If calculated correctly, it is almost two and a half miles total roundtrip.) Other than that, I do not do any regular exercise, but I do have a nice exercise room that I push myself to every now and then. My high goal is 180, weight right now 169, goal for the end of the month 165, and overall goal for 125-135.

Hey, girls, if no one minds, I'd like to join too. At 43, I might be the senior member! This group has members in all parts of the world, different ages, etc., but one thing I do see in common is a good attitude, the kind that makes women of all ages, body types, races, creeds, etc., downright sexy. For a name, how about the Sassy Lassies? Reminds me of that Maya Angelou poem I posted a few days ago.

Anyway, as I said, I'm 43. I have an incredible, bright and funny 19-year-old daughter with purple hair and a passion for changing the world; I have a dear, sweet, wonderful SO; I also have two cats (Jinxie Bell and Linus; otherwise known as *****y McChew Chew and Linoo) and an iguana named Sid, 'cause he's vicious.

I'm an editor and writer, and I live in Philadelphia. I've been overweight my whole adult life. But I look at pictures of myself in my 20s, when I thought I was gross and obese, and I didn't look that bad after all. LOL

My highest weight was 264, current is 255.something, and my goal is 140-145. I've been going to WW for two weeks and do the flex plan.

I'm very open and I talk a whole, whole lot, which you probably already noticed! I also have a tendency to be bawdy, but I keep that contained on message boards because, well, I have to! LOL

Hello everyone! :) I'm also really excited to see how much this has grown--and so quickly, too!

Hippo: Don't you worry about the support group--you've definitely got one here! :) We'll help keep you accountable, definitely.

Everyone: I have a question. How do you think we might best keep ourselves and each other accountable? Should we do like a daily "how many points I used today" kind of thing and/or a weekly weigh-in calculation? I really think the best thing we can do for each other is to be honest about anything we're struggling with, too. That way we can offer advice or at least support for one another. :)

So, what do you guys think? :)

I would love to see everyone contribute to a "how many points I used today" thing, but also add our daily menus with points breakdowns. That will help in a lot of ways, but especially 1) if I'm feeling lazy and don't want to think about planning a day of eating, I can come here and grab someone else's menus; 2) if I'm looking for a new snack or meal idea, someone here might have a good one that's they're already using; and 3) if someone looks at my daily menus and sees something that I'm measuring or calculating wrong, they can mention it to me and I can fix it.

Yay! I love it- so many great gals in one place! Ok, so you all don't get too confused- I am IZZYSGIRL (Lori) and my roommate and best friend is IZZYWAS (Lisa). I didn't plan on that being confusing for anyone, but now that we're on the same group thread I thought I'd better let you all in on our secret!

So anyway, I didn't go swimming this morning like I said I would so I can be the first you all hold accountable! I just don't like to bare my (descriptive word of choice here) thighs when all the thin 20somethings are at the beach- I usually go at 9 but waited around for a friend to join me and then that fell through. I'll go tomorrow AM for sure and make a full report on how good I feel afterward- I PROMISE myself and you.

Amanda: Whoa! What a cool coincidence. I'm at Minnesota State U in Mankato, just about to graduate in December- if I pass my comprehensive exams and finish my thesis! I'm writing my thesis on Gilman's Herland, applying Judith Butler's theories on gender to the text. I don't have a particular concentration, though feminist theory has been a pretty constant avenue for me, esp 19th century women writers. I also have studied much world lit- especially irish and indian. So glad to have met you- and everyone else too!!

Hey, I love the Sassy Lassies! Should we vote on it? We ROCK!

3. The Slimmin' Sistas

Lori: Wow...your thesis sounds so compelling! I've never read Herland, though; it sounds interesting. :) And man...don't mention comps. Mine are in October and I've been working so hard this summer just to read for them! Lol. Ever feel like it's similar to taking a sip out of a fire hydrant? ;) I'm pretty fortunate, though. Most of my reading selections occur before the rise of the novel, so most of it's epic poetry (Beowulf, Paradise Lost, The Faerie Queene), plays, and treatises. Then the rest of it's from Rhet./Com. and it's mostly just articles or chapters from books. Whew...comps...pretty scary. At least theses are more interesting, right? :)

Hello Everyone! I hope you don't mind an extra person joining ya! I just joined WW on Saturday and have 102 pounds to lose. I love the idea of not only having a support system on the board, but also a smaller group, as well. And I love all the names - especially Slimmin Sistas! I remember being on a board a long time ago that had a group called the Sisters in Sweat or something like that.

I especially like the idea about sharing my daily points, exercise, etc. and being accountable. That should help me a great deal!

Looking forward to getting to know you, cheering you on, and offering a shoulder in support!

Thanks for encouragement Calpurrnia!! I hope that I'm able to get down to 200 too! It just sucks sooo much to have to shop at those stores and those sections. I was so embarrassed about 2 years ago for my sisters wedding. We had to find dresses for everyone, and nothing fit me. And she kept picking out things that I just could not wear. Thankfully I found a dress that she liked and everyone else liked that went up to an 18. But it still sucked having to go through that.

Quite a Handful - I was cleaning out my closet this past weekend, and was looking at the clothes that I want to be able to wear again (most are a size 16) and I too remember thinking I was so ugly and gross and fat at that size, and I look now, and think, why in the world did I have a problem then??? Those clothes just look sooo small to me now. I look at pictures too, and think why was I so worried about my weight, I looked GOOD then!! :)

I think posting our points and menus is a good idea. That will help me to make sure I'm getting the right points for my foods, because I just use an unofficial WW online Calculator to figure out my points, and I'm always worried that it might be off or something. And as others have said, it will give us other food ideas :)

I like all the names just fine as well- I don't mind if anyone in particular chooses, so long as we get a name and a thread going soon. I agree that posting menu plans and such is a good idea- honestly I know I won't get around to reporting every night (ah, TBall and soccer mom here...) but you guys will have to trust me that I'm not just skipping on days I was "bad"!! ;)

Hello all! I am officially calling this Weight Watchers Round Two.....I started last June and lost 40 pounds by Christmas....but then moved, changed jobs, and ended a 2.5 year relationship. So yeah, WW went down the drain for me. Well I've gained 10.5 pounds since quitting. I started back with a meeting yesterday, and am just going into it as if everything is brand new. Best of luck to all of you!
