Everyone suggests Luna bars as a replacement for Lites, but What about Zone Perfect bars? I think the Zone bars are better tasting - but if I'm sabotaging my diet by eating those I better stop! :o
Any thoughts?

Marisa - how do they compare with cals and protein??
I have a friend that swears by the zone bars, too.. she is not on LAWL, she uses them because she's on the go alot, and they keep her from getting to hungry.

Zone Perfect bars score better on my personal nutritional value scale (more protein per calorie). They do taste better to me. However, they are higher in calories overall, so my wife sticks with the (obstenisbly less nutritious) Luna bars.

I have to say, I can't really judge on this - if you have two a day, you're including 60 more calories a day than you would with two lunas or two lights. I really don't think that 60 cals will make a difference at least when we are in the main weight loss phase, although I could really be wrong. Hopefully, someone with more knowledge, like Aphil will chime in on this.
You are getting more protein with a zone bar than a luna bar - and a bit more fat -all I can say is give it a try and see what happens!

And don't forget about the sodium...

But since I'm running and working out (and still on the Gold plan) I think the extra calories are ok. The extra sodium I'm not too thrilled about. I appreciate everyone's input! Maybe I'll split the difference and only have 1 Zone bar a day and the other one will be a Luna or Lite.

Good golly, Marissa - I'm surprised they haven't moved you to a higher plan since you're working out - are you still losing?

Thank you for asking, I am still losing! I'm not sure why they haven't moved me to another plan...but I've grown attached to the Gold Plan so I'm happy. ha! :)

Marissa - you're doing terrific! (I'm dreaming of being at 145 . .. or even 160. .)

You can eat pretty much any nutrition bar that you want, that is in the 170-210 calorie range, as long as it contains at least 8 grams of protein or more. (Preferably more though, because the protein keeps you satisfied longer)
I personally think that Luna Bars, Zone bars, and other ones have more nutrition in them than the LA Lites.

The August 2005 issue of Prevention Magazine has a comparison of what they call energy bars, which would be a handy, but limited, guide to comparing other bars to LA Lites. They review:
Luna, Balance Bar Trail Mix, Power Bar Pria, Honey Stinger, CLIF Nectar, LaraBara and Bumble Bar.

Okay...I am on ebay trying desperately to buy a bulk of mixed flavor luna or 110 cal pria bars (if you are halsford, I hate you). Anyway, no luck yet. How much would y'all pay per bar? They are expired. I am bidding 37cents/bar (shipping included in that price). I am not paying half price for outta date stuff. Where else can I look for closeouts? I tried Big Lots with no luck. It's odd, because I could fine protein bars on clearance all day long before I NEEDED them. Our exxon has luna lemon zest at half off right now, but they are $1.60 to start with, which isn't a great deal to me... I prefer the 110 calorie pria, b/c they have a lot of bang for the buck protein/calorie wise and they are delicious. Yum!

I would never purchase Luna bars, or Pria bars on eBay, due to concerns about freshness. The quality of Lunas, especially, I've found to be very much dependent on how long it has been since they were produced, and how well they've been stored/shipped in the meantime. Myoplex Lite crunchy bars would be pretty-much the same.
Zone Perfect bars I don't feel the same concern about.
I'd also be concerned, but for a different reason, about EAS Advantage, Myoplex Lite (not crunchy) and Balance/Balance Gold. Several times EAS shipped me Myoplex Lite bars that arrived utterly melted. Summertime isn't kind to food products shipped through the mail or carrier services not dedicated to shipping food.

Marisa - btw, how is your mother doing? is she still following the plan? You're so sweet - thank you for asking. She actually has been traveling the world this Summer and has been partaking in all the fabulous food out there! I don't blame her, I would do the same thing. LOL - she hasn't gained, though! But she's not following the plan. She saw me last week for the first time since we signed up together and she's motivated (but she is also going on another trip in one week to Belize!). I wish her the best, but she is full of excuses. :dizzy:
