Default New to strength training - question

I just started my weight loss plan about 3 1/2 weeks ago with counting calories and starting an exercise program. I do cardio about 5-6 times a week for at least 40 minutes and I also do strength training about 2-3 times a week. I have significantly reduced my calorie intake and I am aiming to stay around 1700 calories/day. However, I have only lost 4lbs since June 16. I guess I am surprised because the last time I started watching what I ate I lost 8lbs in a week and a half. A lot of people have told me that it is probably due to the fact that I have just begun lifting weights and my muscles are retaining water. I have been told that it takes about 6-8 weeks for your body to get adjusted. I just wanted to get some other opinions. Thank you!

4 pounds is great since June 16th, that's 2# per week, a VERY healthy weight loss IMHO ... Have you taken pictures or measured yourself? If not you really should, those pics are worth a gazillion words... Once over a few months I lost 2# but when I compared pics I saw a very big difference! Hope this helps, let us know how things go...
