Loved this thread last month so here's one for July!

Went shopping with my mom today. Decided to check out some new pants as my old ones are getting loose (sizes 22 and 24). Tried on a size 20, fit great! :D I was even able to squeeze into a pair of size 16! I haven't been able to squeeze into a pair of 16 pants since I was a senior in high school!:dizzy:I bought them so I can track my progress with how they fit being as I don't completely trust my scale but clothes don't lie. LOL
So excited And motivated to keep it up and start doing even better! Want to fit nicely into my size 16's by November. :D

I dropped into a resale shop last week. I figured since I don't plan to stay this size that is the way to go to look good as I go without spending a fortune. It was soooo great being able to realize that now that I'm in regular sizes, instead of plus sizes, I can actually pick from clothes I like, not merely settle for whatever will go around my fat bod.

While on that thought, I had given away my cashmere coat (custom made for me by a great tailor overseas-a once in a lifetime thing, a gift from dh) thinking I could never get my weight down enough to wear it. Now that I'm smaller again, I found a new cashmere to replace it that I really like. Though it was off the rack it was very well made and I really like it. It is nice to have clothes I actually LIKE !!!

Congratulations everyone.

I have one I have one!!! We went to the movies at the weekend, we normally go to the expensive Gallery cinema, as I don't fit into a standard seat.

This weekend we went to the normal cinema, and I fit, with ample room to shift about, I could cross my legs and everything. I sat for over two hours without feeling uncomfortable!

I've been flying a lot over the past 9 or 10 days. Much more comfortable than it used to be. Lovely.

Also, a Spanish bloke who works for my dad who I've not seen since Christmas came up to me and said "you are looking more thin". Made my day :D

Another running one. I finished my first 5k race in 28 minutes 37 seconds! I loved imagining the sight of the skinny peoples faces as I raced past them on my way to the finish ;)

One of my guy friends here at the office said my outfit made my butt look like I pooped myself (they're way too droopy in the back now) lol. I guess it's time to invest in a couple of new clothes.

Dee, had to read yours twice!! :D Your friend has a unique way of paying you a compliment.

Jeanette, that must have been so satisfying to be able to zip that skirt up.

YP1, wow! WTG!

When I was at the gym yesterday, I was talking to this man (he's 82) who works out on a machine near the free weights. We've had several conversations before. He mentioned that his daughter was visiting, and she wasn't much fun to have around because she's overweight and kind of sulky. He then said that he's told his daughter a lot of times to lose weight, etc., I just had to speak up. I told him that I'd lost quite a bit of weight, and that the stuff my Dad used to say to me actually made it worse, not better. I said that she knows that she needs to lose weight, and she'll do it when she's ready, and she needs love and acceptance from him at whatever weight she's at. I also said that I told my father I would quit visiting if he didn't quit bugging me about my weight. Now, I don't know if this man took anything I said to heart, but I felt good about saying it.

And so you should feel good about yourself, Sheila! Let's hope he thought about what you said and decided to change from being critical to being more supportive!

Great NSV's people ~ hope you're all as proud of yourselves as you deserve to be! :)

Wow! Good for you Sheila! I absolutely love the fact that you made a stand and spoke your mind to this man. I'm just so darn poud of you, I've got this big ol cheesy grin on my face right now. :D Wow again, I wish I had that kind of confidence. I wanna be like Sheila when I grow up!! :cp:

I had to re-tie my work dresses to bring them in a bit around my middle. You know those flowing dresses with a small tie across the back that were so popular a couple years ago? I bought four of htem in different patterns, and they're my primary work attire. I tied the tie and didn't think much about it. But now, years later, the dresses are beginning to hang. So today, I tightened the tie. :D

Nice NSVs. :)

I'm into my size 18 jeans, and they're comfortable too! Too bad the zip on one pair is broken. I can't imagine why I kept them. :dunno:

Hello All-

I'm mostly a "lurker", but I had to share this NSV. I donated blood yesterday and the nurse taking my info. asked me my weight, to which I gave an honest answer. She seemed suprised and said, "There's no way you weigh that much." I told her that I make it a point NOT to lie at these things...unlike when I get my driver's license :s: . She then asked me if I worked out and when I said yes, she said "Oh, ok it must be muscle". I was pretty elated, especially considering this plateau phase right before Onederland...and it again reinforces that the numbers really don't matter, it is all about being healthier. :sunny:

I have a new one. We just went shoping and I bought XL shrits. I can't believe it. XL. I no longer have to pay the $2 more for the larger size shrits. That sure was a nice way to end this rather bleak week.

Here I am on Howie's coattails. We did a little clothes shopping tonight. I found some clearanced jeans and got a pair of Levi bootcut stretch denim jeans....In size 16. OMG, size 16! Two 18/20 fitted button-up shirts also found their way into the cart.

Gee, it's nice to look forward to clothes shopping. It's been sooo long since I could say that.

Sheila, what you told the man is *awesome*.

This is such a great thread.

Yesterday was my husband's company picnic -- a usual orgy of hamburgers, brats, potato salad, soda, ice cream, etc. I put a little potato salad and fruit on my plate, and 1 burger without the bun. I realized it was just not worth it to waste my calories and nutrition on that food. So I ate just enough not to be hungry and then on the way home, stopped at Trader Joes for some dried figs and macademia nuts. I had 3 figs and a small handful of nuts and felt wonderful. Then we all came home and had fruit salad for dinner. It was an "a-ha" moment in that I saw just how ridiculous it is to eat food that does not nourish every part of me. Why should I eat a bunless rubbery hamburger and fat-filled, nutrient deficient beans (the way they make them) when I could have something I really love -- like a good-sized dollop of fruit sweetened homemade whipped cream on my fruit salad (my favorite summer thing)?

That's great Paula. It is a nice moment when we figure it out that we don't need that junk food. Keep up the great work.

Paula, I believe you need to expound on " fruit sweetened homemade whipped cream". That sounds really good!

Thanks Howie.

Oh...the whipped cream IS easy. I buy Knudtsen's Cherry concentrate (a small bottle in the juice aisle) and add about 1 T. to the whipping cream towards the end of whipping. Delicious on fruit!

Gardenwife

And whipping cream is just....? LOL, I can look that part up!

irishgreengables
07-24-2005, 11:21 PM
Uh-oh...you've had way too much whipped cream out of a dispenser or from the freezer dept. Look in the dairy section -- where milk is -- for whipping cream or heavy whipping cream. Beat it with a mixer until it is stiff and then add the juice to taste. DELICIOUS! It is full fat, but I personally lose better with fat but without sugar.

I rarely get any whipped toppings...Just some when I make shortcakes during peak strawberry season. Have to admit, I love the Cool Whip type toppings!

GREAT NSV's everyone :) It's nice to have something to measure things by, not just those pesky scales!

I bought some terry cloth capri's last summer, and they've been falling off for the last couple weeks! I hope to get this summer season out of them though.. also I have shrunk from an XXL at Old Navy into their XL's. Now to get away from those X's! ;)

Aimee, such a thrill to fit into smaller clothes, and cheaper as mentioned by Howie! :)

I'm accumulating a vast pile of too big clothes to give away; including some awful stretchy elastic waisted pants and ugly old-lady styled plus size shirts :p-they're OUTTA HERE!
After work today, I stopped and browsed clothes looking for some shorts and tank tops. Tried on some 18 jeans, not "plus size 18" , just regular womens size 18 (although I'm not sure there's a difference between the two). They were too small, but not by much! I'm confident I'll be wearing that size by Christmas (6 months away), if not sooner.

Anyway, my official NSV is regarding my belt I wear for work. I'm able to fasten it comfortably at the last notch now! 32 lbs and 4 months ago, I could barely buckle it at the very first notch. :happy dance:

The BEST NSV ever for me. I haven't been able to wear my wedding ring since I got pregnant with my son two years ago - the other day, I got it back on and am happily wearing it at this moment! I'm SO excited - I forgot how beautiful it is!

I've got a great NSV!!!!

When I began April 19th My BMI was 44.98 and in the Extremely High Risk category
Today it is 39.90 and in the Very High Risk category...

Seems strange to be happy about Very High Risk....
But I'm so thrilled and so proud of myself..

That's great that you can wear your ring again. Watch out, though--pretty soon it will be falling off that finger! :)

Linda, that's wonderful news!! You definitely should be proud of yourself and all the hard work you've done.

I'm finally able to wear my shorts from last year. While it ticks me off that I put on some weight from November to May, I'm glad that I'm back on track and heading toward that VFT. Still planning on hitting goal and the 100 lb. loss mark by the end of the year. But if I don't, well, there's always next year, right? Persistence is my middle name. :D

Congrats to all on their NSV's :bravo:

I finally conquered the dreaded bar hang! Hopefully those of you in the US who had to endure the yearly Presdential Physical Fitness Test can relate. This is the test in which you were timed in gym class for the number of sit-ups you could do and your time in a 100 yard dash. And, the boys did chin-ups while the girls had to "just" hang from the bar. Well needless to say I could never hang from the bar and just sort of touched it and jumped to the floor. :( Well I tried it at the gym the other day and was able to hang and even do some lower body pull-ups :D . Now, I just gotta find one of those :censored: ropes and climb that to banish my past gym class demons!! ;)

Apart from walking and biking I do all my exercise at home, so I don't care what I look like--ratty old tee-shirts and a couple of pairs of shorts I've had for a few years do me fine.

So, I was jumping around this morning doing a WATP DVD and my shorts fell down! :o

They used to be pretty snug across the bum and tum. I love it!

Ali!

Good job on the bar hang, star! You know, I was thin (actually too thin) growing up but I remember those fitness tests and I could NEVER do the bar hang! EVER! Hated that!

Another NSV for me: (men avert your eyes :p )

I SAID, "MEN AVERT YOUR EYES!" :drill:

I took the "spacer" out of my bra...you know, I had bras and then I gained weight and instead of buying new bras, I bought spacers that give you several inches around. ;) Well, I took them all out. My bras were driving me CRAZY - they were all over the place and I kept fooling with them and was so frustrated wondering what the heck was up and then I finally figured out that they were TOO BIG! I thought I'd just adjust them a bit, but no, I had to take the whole spacer out for it to fit! THEN - get this - I THREW THEM AWAY!! I NEVER throw anything away people! This is HUGE!

Of course, I have a bit of a thing about bras these days. :D

That's great, Laura! There's no smiley for happy boobs, so just use your imagination. :>)8

I have *got* to get some new bras. The girls are swimming in the cups now, plus I have the bras hooked their tightest and there's nowhere to go. It's hard bringing myself to buy good bras right now, especially knowing they probably won't fit for more than a couple months, tops...But everything looks so much better when the foundation's taken care of.

I was happy to find the price of these bras on Ebay. Breezies is the brand sold on QVC for 30-40 bucks each and I got a couple of them for 6.99 + 3 bucks shipping and I love them. There are several sellers who sell merchandise that was returned to the 2 major shopping networks and re-sell at a huge discount. Here's what the bras look like...I found mine in beige...new with tags on.
